2023 Winter College Golf Seminar registration is NOW LIVE! Please join us on Sunday, December 3rd from 9:00am until 12:00pm for a morning filled with information regarding the college golf recruiting process! This seminar will include a panel of current Division I, II, and III golf coaches who will answer questions and give their best advice to help you pick the best college for you. This seminar is a must for junior golfers and their parents if their goal is to play college golf. The nature of the recruiting process in college golf is different than most other sports. The athlete and parents must take a much more proactive role and typically need to initiate the process. We recommend that the juniors are ages 14 and over and in high school to attend and get the most out of the Seminar! Follow the link in our bio or head over to our website to register for this event! ...

What Brandt Snedeker said about the Schooldays Golf Tournament joining the Sneds Tour

minnesota junior golf tour

PGA golfer Brandt Snedeker announced Tuesday that The Tennessean/Metro Parks Schooldays Golf Tournament will become part of the Sneds Tour when the 100th annual event is played June 5-7 at McCabe Golf Course.

The Schooldays, for ages 12-18, is among the longest-running tournaments in the state and will become the first match play event on the Sneds Tour, which runs through Nov. 17.

Snedeker and his brother Haymes each played in the Schooldays when they were younger.

"The Schooldays has always been near and dear to my heart," Snedeker said. "Our family is so proud to have one of the longest-running junior golf tournaments in Tennessee become a regular stop on the Sneds Tour. The Schooldays gave me something to shoot for and taught me how to prepare and practice. It taught me how to win and how to fail. That's part of it. It gave me something to work for."

In 2022, Snedeker and Tennessee Golf Foundation president Whit Turnbow donated $10,000 to the Schooldays.

Laird Williams from Page High won the Schooldays boys division in 2023 and Ainsley Moore from University School of Nashville won the girls division. Both are expected to defend their titles.

The field is expected to at least double and possibly triple with the tournament becoming part of the Sneds Tour, according to Turnbow, who won the Schooldays in 1996. There were 75 players in the field last year.

"The Tennessee Golf Foundation's relationship to Nashville and Metro Parks is growing and partnering with the Schooldays tournament is a great way to showcase some of our best junior golfers in an exciting match play format," Turnbow said.

The Schooldays has been played at several Metro courses over the years after first being played at Shelby in 1924. It has remained at McCabe during the past 40 years except for 2006 when it moved to Ted Rhodes after the clubhouse at McCabe burned and in 1999 when it returned to Shelby for the 75th anniversary.

"Brandt Snedeker is Nashville Golf, and for the Schooldays and McCabe Golf Course to partner with him is really exciting," said McCabe Course pro Audie Johnson , who won the Schooldays in 1979 after finishing runner-up in 1978. "Brandt was a municipal player and a local kid going back to his days at MBA and Vanderbilt. He's played in many of our events including the Schooldays and the Muny. He's the biggest-name golfer that's come out of Nashville. We hope the Schooldays will help his (Snedeker Foundation) grow because it supports youth golf."

The first round of the Schooldays is medal play. The low 16 boys and eight girls advance to match play on the second day with the boys semifinals and finals and girls finals played on the final day.

Other key players expected to be in the field this year include 2022 boys champion Lane Walton along with 2023 girls runner-up Mattie Goad and 2022 runner-up Alex Crews .

Nashville Sounds' First Horizon Park gets upgrades

Upgrades have been made at First Horizon Park for the start of the Nashville Sounds 2024 baseball season.

Upgrades include a state-of-the-art LED field lighting system and extended netting.

The LED lights replaced the previous halogen bulbs on each of the six light stanchions around the park. They exceed light requirements for minor league baseball ballparks set by MLB.

The protective netting has been extended farther down each line to increase fan safety. Previously the netting only reached the end of each dugout. The netting stands 40 feet high from the playing surface.

“We’re always striving to make First Horizon Park the best place for fans to have the most memorable experience possible,” said Nashville Sounds COO and general manager Adam English. “These upgrades reflect our commitment to keeping fans and players safe while also enjoying the magic of a Nashville Sounds gameday.”

Additionally, the walls surrounding the playing surface were replaced with new padding to meet updated MiLB facility standards.

In a first, Vice President Harris visits Minnesota abortion clinic to blast ‘immoral’ restrictions

The White House is escalating its defense of reproductive rights with Vice President Kamala Harris visiting a Planned Parenthood clinic, in what her office says is the first time a president or vice president has toured a facility that performs abortions.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Vice President Kamala Harris visited a Planned Parenthood clinic on Thursday, marking what her office said was the first time a president or vice president has toured a facility that performs abortions, as the White House escalates its defense of reproductive rights in this year’s election.

“Right now, in our country, we are facing a very serious health crisis,” Harris said. “And the crisis is affecting many, many people in our country, most of whom are, frankly, silently suffering.”

The clinic, nestled in an industrial area near the city line between St. Paul and Minneapolis, has been a beacon for many women in the region. Although Democratic leaders in Minnesota have protected abortion access, neighboring states have banned or severely restricted the procedure with policies that Harris described as “immoral.”

“How dare these elected leaders believe they are in a better position to tell women what they need,” Harris said. “We have to be a nation that trusts women.”

Harris said she met two dozen health care workers at the clinic who had created an environment where patients can “be safe” and “free from judgement.”

Dr. Sarah Traxler, chief medical officer of Planned Parenthood North Central States, introduced herself as “a proud abortion provider” and called Harris’ visit a “historic moment.” She said the number of patients visiting the clinic from out of state has doubled.

“Everyone should have the right to access health care,” Traxler said.

Protesters gathered across the street, holding signs that said “life is a human right” and “abortion kills a human being.”

Cathy Blaeser, the co-executive director of the anti-abortion group Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life, said, “The vice president’s visit shows the Biden administration’s full-blown devotion to extreme abortion policies.” She added that “Minnesotans don’t want to be known for abortion tourism.”

The White House has few options to protect access to abortion after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade two years ago, clearing the way for Republican-led states to enact limitations or bans on the procedure. But the visit reflected Democrats’ intense focus on reproductive rights to rally their voters to reelect President Joe Biden in a likely rematch with Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee.

Harris, the first woman elected vice president, has led the White House’s outreach, and her trip to the Minneapolis-St. Paul area is part of a nationwide tour she began in January .

The decision to make a historic visit to a clinic showcased her more aggressive approach to the issue than Biden. While Biden has vowed to restore Roe v. Wade’s protections if Democrats regain full control of Congress, he tends to talk about the “right to choose” instead of saying “abortion.”

During her visit, Harris spoke plainly about women’s health needs and the clinic’s role in providing birth control and preventative care.

“Everyone get ready for the language — uterus,” Harris said. “That part of the body needs a lot of medical care from time to time.”

After visiting the clinic, Harris spoke at a campaign event held at the Coven, a coworking space that caters to women in St. Paul. She said Minnesota had “once again demonstrated to our nation just how much progress a Democratic trifecta can make,” a reference to the party’s control of the governor’s office and both legislative chambers.

Democrats harnessed that power in January 2023 by rushing through legislation that enshrined in state law the right to abortion and other kinds of reproductive health care. There are no restrictions on abortion at any stage of pregnancy in Minnesota .

Meanwhile, abortion is currently illegal in more than a dozen states , including Minnesota neighbors North Dakota and South Dakota, and is restricted in Iowa and Wisconsin. Harris blamed Trump for the erosion of abortion rights and called him the “architect of a health care crisis.”

“Let us all recognize who is to blame,” she said. “The former president, Donald Trump, handpicked three members of the United States Supreme Court with the intention that they would overturn Roe. He intended for them to take your freedoms. And he brags about it.”

Trump touted his role in eliminating the nationwide right to abortion during a recent Fox News town hall, saying, “I’m proud to have done it.” During his term, he tipped the ideological balance on the high court by nominating three conservative justices, paving the way for the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned Roe v. Wade.

Since then, Democrats have felt encouraged by electoral victories in 2022 and 2023 when abortion access was on the ballot. And in his State of the Union address last week, Biden vowed that “we’ll win again in 2024.” He also said that if voters “send me a Congress that supports the right to choose, I promise you I will restore Roe v. Wade as the law of the land again.”

Before the flight back to Washington on Thursday, Harris surprised Central High School’s girl’s varsity and junior varsity softball teams at practice. As she watched, Harris told the players, ’I’m impressed.”
