Metallica to play a 'no repeat' weekend august 2024 at minneapolis stadium.
One of the acts that helped inaugurate U.S. Bank Stadium in 2016 , Metallica will return to the Minneapolis football palace in 2024 for a two-night stand featuring a "no repeat" setlist policy.
The metal giants have lined up Aug. 16 and 18 two summers from now for the Minnesota dates on their M72 World Tour, tickets for which go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. via Ticketmaster with presale options starting Wednesday.
Minneapolis is one of only nine U.S. cities with dates on the two-year tour, which is due to begin April 27, 2023, in Amsterdam and will also hit Chicago's Soldier Field just before Minnesota (Aug. 9 and 11, 2024). Each city features a night off between the two shows to lend some breathing room to the band members, who began entering their 60s with guitarist Kirk Hammett's birthday two weeks ago.
The reformed lineup of Pantera without late guitar hero Dimebag Darrell will open the first night in Minneapolis (a Friday) along with Mammoth WVH, led by Eddie Van Halen's son Wolfgang Van Halen. On the second night (a Sunday), Five Finger Death Punch and Ice Nine Kills are the scheduled openers.
Tickets will initially be sold only as two-night passes and will include Snake Pit VIP options and discounts for fans under ages 16. Prices have not yet been made public. Unlike Taylor Swift's two-night stand at U.S. Bank Stadium next summer (June 23-24), tickets to Metallica's shows will not be sold through Ticketmaster's much-maligned Verified Fan program and should be easier to come by — if not cheap.
Single-night tickets will be sold separately starting Jan. 20. These are said to be the band's only dates scheduled through the end of 2024. U.S. fans not wanting to wait a whole year to see the performances could try to catch 2023 stops in Detroit, St. Louis or the Dallas, Phoenix or Los Angeles metro areas.
The tour is named after "72 Seasons," the first new Metallica record in six years, due out April 14. In conjunction with the tour announcement, the band also issued the first track off the record, " Lux Æterna ."
Chris Riemenschneider has been covering the Twin Cities music scene since 2001, long enough for Prince to shout him out during "Play That Funky Music (White Boy)." The St. Paul native authored the book "First Avenue: Minnesota's Mainroom" and previously worked as a music critic at the Austin American-Statesman in Texas.

METALLICA in Paris Night 2: See setlist and videos from M72 Tour
Metallica 's M72 World Tour continued tonight (May 19th) in Paris, marking the band's second performance in the French capital and the third date of the massive run, which began in Amsterdam last month. For this tour, James, Kirk, Rob and Lars are playing each location twice, and have promised "no repeats" of the same setlist, so this evening's configuration of songs was significantly different than what fans heard in Amsterdam and at the first Paris show , just two days before.
Metallica opened the 16-song set with a bang in the form of Ride the Lightning' s "Creeping Death," followed by ...And Justice for All' s "Harvester of Sorrow." They then played Death Magnetic' s "Cyanide," marking the song's first appearance on the M72 tour, and first live performance since 2018.
In terms of new songs, three 72 Seasons cuts were played: "If Darkness Had a Son," "You Must Burn!" and the title track.

Setlist, Photos + Video – Metallica Play Second Show of ‘No Repeat Weekend’ in Amsterdam
This past Thursday (April 27), Metallica played the first show of their expansive M72 world tour , and it was full of awesome inclusions (such as the live debut of two 72 Seasons songs alongside plenty of classic material). Last night (April 29), they returned to the Johan Cruijff Arena – in Amsterdam, Netherlands – for the second performance of their “No Repeat Weekend,” and it was arguably even more surprising and satisfying.
As promised, none of the tracks from April 27 were duplicated last night. Instead, the iconic quartet dished out a whole new set of 16 songs, including the live debut of another tune from their latest LP: “You Must Burn!” (which features bassist Robert Trujillo ’s first-ever backing vocal ). According to setlist.fm , the evening saw them play “ Until It Sleeps ” for the first time since November 2008, too, and attendees were also treated to the first playthrough of “ 72 Seasons ” in front of a live audience (as well as the first full live rendition of “ If Darkness Had a Son ”).
Other highlights included “Welcome Home (Sanitarium),” “The Unforgiven” and closer “Enter Sandman.” As such, it was perhaps a more well-rounded and dynamic performance than their concert two nights prior.

Of course, they were preceded by Ice Nine Kills and Nightwish frontwoman Floor Jansen (who replaced Five Finger Death Punch due to frontman Ivan Moody still recovering from hernia surgery ). You can view their setlists here and here , respectively.
You can see (and compare) both of Metallica's setlists below, as well as see photos and fan-shot videos.

Metallica has announced a 46-date world tour, which will see them play two dates in every city they visit but with a new setlist and different support acts on each of the nights.
The M27 outing comprises 23 ‘No Repeat Weekends’ in Europe, North America and South America between April 2023 and September 2024. Venues on the tour are yet to be announced.
The tour, produced by Live Nation and presented by Liquid Death and Blackened American Whiskey, will premiere a new in-the-round stage design that relocates the famed Metallica Snake Pit to centre stage.
Support acts joining the jaunt include Architects, Mammoth WVH, Five Finger Death Punch, Ice Nine Kills, Pantera, Volbeat and Greta Van Fleet.
Fans will have the option of purchasing a single-day ticket, a two-day ticket or an ‘I Disappear’ full-tour pass. For the first time, discounted tickets will be available for fans under 16 years of age.
A portion of proceeds from every ticket sold will go to the band’s All Within My Hands foundation, which is dedicated to “creating sustainable communities by supporting workforce education, the fight against hunger, and other critical local services”.
News of the tour comes shortly after Metallica announced they would play two unique sets on the Thursday and Saturday nights of the UK’s Download festival .
The American rock band, which is represented by K2 Agency founder John Jackson, says they haven’t played the same set twice in almost 20 years.

Christine Blasey Ford Shares Love of Metallica in New Memoir
In her new memoir, Christine Blasey Ford shares her love of Metallica .
In September 2018, Ford became a bit of a household name for news junkies across the country as she testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee ahead of the nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court.
Her testimony highlighted an alleged sexual assault by Kavanaugh at a party in the ’80s.
Nearly six years after testifying before Congress — and following Kavanaugh joining the Supreme Court — Ford has released her memoir, One Way Back , detailing the experience while also sharing personal moments throughout her life that helped shape that testimony.
Surprisingly, some of those moments include her love for Metallica and other rock legends.
When Metallica Wanted a Picture With Christine Blasey Ford
Not only does Ford reveal her love of Metallica in a few different stories, but she also describes her passion for surfing in One Way Back . And at one point in her life, those two worlds collided.
Before a Metallica concert in 2018, Ford participated in a charity auction and bid on a surfing session with Kirk Hammett . The starting bid she went with was $10,000; her husband quickly reminded her they did not have that much money to spend on a surfing session with Hammett.
She was sure she wouldn’t win.
“I wanted to get a T-shirt from the merch stand but felt too nervous to stand in line with people who might recognize me,” she wrote in One Way Back .
“I had been on every news outlet and in every newspaper just a month earlier, after all. Before the concert started, someone from Metallica’s team approached us and told us they could escort us backstage to meet the band. I nearly peed my pants.”
Ford described how terrified she was, even connecting the feeling she had with similar nerves during her testimony.

“This was anxiety inducing in a way that no flight or testimony could ever be. Walking into the room of senators, I had known what I wanted to say. This time as we headed backstage, I had absolutely no clue.”
Ford said the guys in the band were kind and even asked to take a photo with her. She told them she placed a bid on the surfing session and everyone laughed as Hammett told her, “We can go anytime.”
Following that, Ford said the show — which was part of Metallica’s WorldWired Tour — was “fantastic,” and “I found myself actually dancing, singing, feeling euphoric.” It was one of the first times she felt that way after her testimony.
How a Guns N’ Roses Lyric Helped Christine Blasey Ford Following Her Testimony
Early on in One Way Back , Ford reveals her love of rock ‘n’ roll, calling herself a huge fan of bands such Guns N’ Roses , Metallica, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden . She actually thanks some of these bands in the book’s acknowledgements because they create “the music that heals.”
She also admitted that Axl Rose helped her, in a way, following her testimony before Congress.
She explained how she had received letters from individuals across the globe showing their support for her while also sharing their own stories of abuse and assault.
“Many of the [letters] said that my testimony had helped validate the trauma they had experienced and had given them the courage to share their story — often for the first time.
“I kept hearing Axl Rose singing in ‘November Rain,’ ‘You’re not the only one.'”
Metallica’s Tour Plans for 2024
On May 24, Metallica kick off the second year of their M72 tour with their special No-Repeat Weekend in Munich, Germany. They’re also playing Helsinki, Finland, Copenhagen, Denmark, Warsaw, Poland, and Madrid, Spain, before heading back to North America.
The first No-Repeat Weekend in the United States is on Aug. 2 in Foxborough, Mass. Following those two shows, they’ll be in Chicago, Ill., Minneapolis, Minn., Edmonton, Canada, Seattle, Wash., and Mexico City, Mexico.
The M72 tour is in support of Metallica’s latest studio album, 72 Seasons .
