Places to visit in Mathura and Vrindavan for a perfect weekend

By Ria Gupta

places to visit in mathura

Brajbhoomi, the land where Lord Krishna was born and raised, straddles the River Yamuna in Uttar Pradesh . At its centre lie the cities of Mathura and Vrindavan, where his name continues to resonate and, many say, his flute still resounds in every bylane and fallen leaf. For the pious, the devout ambience of the riverbank cities is reason enough, but Mathura and Vrindavan have a lot to offer for any traveller, with delicious food, pastoral beauty and ancient legends. Here is our quick guide for 48 hours in these twin sacred cities.

Getting there

A 60km drive from Agra airport, Mathura lies four hours by road from Delhi, and a half-hour drive from Vrindavan. Those arriving by train can disembark at Mathura Junction.

places to visit in mathura

The best season to visit is in early winter, when the temperature is ideal for a soak in the river as well as a trek up the hill. This year, Janmashtami falls on 6 and 7 September. During the festivities, the streets are filled with dance and processions, and temples across Braj are lit up and decorated. You can also time your visit around Hindu festivals such as Holi, when the streets of Mathura come alive with colour and cheer. In the twin towns of Barsana and Nandgaon nearby, Holi is a week-long celebration. Women dress up as gopis (milkmaids) and playfully drive off men with sticks, in a recreation of the way Radha and the other gopis drove off Krishna and his friends when they came to Barsana to play the festival of colour.

Of the places to visit in Mathura and Vrindavan, the Shri Krishna Janmasthan temple complex in Mathura is a must. It is believed to have been built at the exact location where lord Krishna was born. It consists of the Keshavdeva temple, Garbha Griha shrine and Bhagavata Bhavan along with a steep tank called the Potra Kund. Trek up Govardhan Hill near Mathura

A six-hour circuitous trek in the town of Govardhan takes you to the top of this eponymous 80ft-tall sandstone hill. On your way, take a dip in the famed Radha Kund and Shyam Kund by temples steeped in Krishna lore. Look out for the stone cenotaphs while crossing the Kusum Sarovar lake, and for Giriraj Temple—the most popular temple here. Karir shares that the trek is just as much about the fellow travellers. “You’ll come across devotees who take the circumambulation two to three times a day, while saints travel with a cart to eat and sleep throughout the day and night.” If you are lost, the saints make for excellent guides, Karir says, as they are well educated in multiple languages as well as the scriptures of the Vedas and the Upanishads. Alternatively : Swap out the trek for the nearby town of Barsana, said to be the home of Krishna’s beloved, Radha. Just an hour from Mathura, the town is accessible via bus. Barsana is surrounded by four sacred peaks and topped by the Ladliji Temple.

Trail the seven Goswami temples, Vrindavan

places to visit in mathura

Over the course of many years, the six main goswamis or disciples of Lord Krishna established seven sacred shrines across Vrindavan. “Each consecrated deities of the lord and gave them the names they lovingly addressed him with,” says Karir. Visit the thus- named Radha Damodar Temple, Radha Gokulananda Temple, Radha Gopinath Temple, Radha Shyamsundar Temple, Radha Raman Temple, Radha Govindadeva Temple and Radha Madanmohan Temple for rich oral narratives and Vrindavan’s earliest temple architecture. No two temples seem the same. The smoke and honking of the road give way to the smell of chandan and the vibrations of kirtan in some of these shrines, while at others you can only hear the shuffling of the faithful kneeling before the lord. With a rickshaw steering you through the busy streets, the trail takes up to three hours with enough time to stop for a cup of tea by the River Yamuna.

Attractions abound the premises, with book stalls, a museum , eateries and a guesthouse where you can learn, eat and stay. If you’re on time, you can catch the Raj Bhog aarti at 12pm right before the temple closes for the afternoon. Be careful to find a spot beforehand, for as the bells begin ringing, devotees are spread across the courtyard—some lost in a dance of devotion, some singing joyfully. With a mic in hand, one by one they take over to devote their song to the lord as the afternoon meal is served to the idols before being shared with the devotees as prasadam.

places to visit in mathura

A trip to Brajbhoomi is incomplete without a visit to one of its most visited temples. Steer through the crowds to catch a glimpse of the lord’s idol at Shri Bankey Bihari Temple in Vrindavan. It is believed that the sight of the idol of Shri Krishna in his childhood form is a harbinger of good luck, which is why even the streets of Keshi Ghat, right in front of the temple , remain flooded with pilgrims even before the temple opens. The curtain lifts only for a few moments, but reveals a breathtaking image adorned in hefty ornamentation and divine energy. After the visit, head to the basil forest Nidhivan, where the extant idol of Bankey Bihari was originally consecrated.

Wonder at the mystery of Nidhivan, Vrindavan

places to visit in mathura

Just a few minutes beyond Shri Bankey Bihari Temple, a street segues off the main road into a labyrinth of dingy shops and sandstone houses. On every corner sit mendicants draped in orange, their tumbis delivering enticing tunes full of love. It is said that the grounds of this basil forest should be entered with the right foot to herald good luck. A criss-crossed cane tunnel takes you through a forest of trees. Watch out for monkeys and hold on to your spectacles while you cross the Rang Mahal temple, where Radha is believed to visit every night. Apocryphal stories relate that makeup and ornaments are left here behind locked doors every night, only to be found used the next morning. The temple shuts at 5pm while the forest is closed off after dark, but as the legend goes, that’s when Krishna and Radha visit and the trees dance in coquetry.

Gorge on samosas and rabri, kulhad chai and aloo chaat here, and make sure to stop by Shri Brijwasi for peda, the local favourite. Every day at 6am and 4.30pm a special hour-long aarti takes place on the waters, and hundreds of diyas are left floating. You can catch a boat to the other side of the river for an unobstructed view. Priests and disciples sit in boats, criss-crossing saris as a way of draping the goddess Yamuna, while pilgrims in other boats make offerings of milk, flowers and incense.

nearest places to visit from vrindavan

Vrindavan, like many other towns in Uttar Pradesh, is one of the historic places that has been referenced in the sacred Hindu scriptures. These texts date back to ancient times. One of the two sacred towns that are considered to be twins is Vrindavan.  The name Vrindavan comes from the old forest that formerly stood in this area; now, only two minor groves remain of the larger forest. Vrindavan is one of the most important religious destinations for Hindus since it is widely believed to be the area where Lord Krishna spent his childhood.

10 best places to visit in Vrindavan

Prem mandir.

The Prem Mandir, or “temple of love,” is one of Vrindavan’s most important and biggest temples, devoted to the veneration of Lord Krishna and Radha. The temple is quite recent; the first stone was set in 2001, and it didn’t open its doors to the public until 2012. It took around 150 crores of Indian rupees to build this enormous temple. The enormous Prem Mandir complex has a total of 54 acres of property.

The two-story marble temple serves as a symbol of the city’s spiritual and cultural significance. Stunning murals that represent Radha and Krishna’s Leela may be seen adorning the interior of the temple. The whole temple is surrounded on all sides by a massive garden that has a variety of beautiful plants, fountains, and lighting. In addition, the gardens have gigantic sculptures of several gods and goddesses, with the figure of Rasa Leela being the most well-known of them.

The temple also hosts a light display every night, when worshippers pray and sing lovely bhajans as the temple’s white stones are illuminated by artificial lights. Evenings from 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. include the light display.

The months of November through March, when winter is in full swing, provide the ideal conditions for a trip to Prem Mandir. In the months of February and March, Prem Mandir hosts some of the most well-known Holi events in all of India. The temple is located 8 kilometres distant from the closest train connection, which is located in Mathura. Outside of the station, one may hire a cab, a bus, or an auto-rickshaw to take them to their destination.

This temple’s relic was revered in the past as Kunj Bihari, which translates to the enjoyer of lakes. It is a common belief that Lord Krishna despises the noise made by bells and conches. Hence the temple does not have either of these types of instruments. Chants of Radha and Krishna are performed by individuals using just their voices.

“Banke” translates to “bent or twisted in three places,” whereas “Bihari” reflects an enthusiastic person. All of the lord’s daily duties are carried out in three distinct ways, designated as the Shringar, Rajbhog, and Shayan. At Shringar, the lord bathes and dresses up; at Rajbhog, a large feast is served; and at Shayan, he rests.

The Banke Bihari temple is considered to be one of the most sacred locations for the devotion of Lord Krishna, and as a result, it is visited by devotees every single day of the year. This is unquestionably one of the city’s most popular destinations for vacationers to check out.

Located about 12 kilometres away, Mathura is accessible by bus, tempo, and taxi. Delhi-Agra NH-2 runs through Vrindavan. This temple is 7 km off the National Highway and served by several buses that go between Agra and Delhi. You may go to the temple by taking a tempo or a rickshaw at any time of day since there are several options.

Iskcon, Vrindavan is considered to be one of the most well-known temples in all of India. It is also known as the Krishna Balaram Mandir by many people. The construction of the temple began in 1975 and was completed in 1977.

An enormous archway made of white marble welcomes visitors and takes them to Srila Prabhupada’s samadhi, the founder of Iskcon. Additionally, the temple entrances are entirely carved from hardwood and are of a tremendous scale.

You will get the opportunity to see the devotees dancing to the stunningly beautiful and ethereal sounds of the prayers, which are referred to as kirtans. This music is complemented by harmoniums. If you’d want to stay at Iskcon, you may do it via their website if you’d like to pay a fee.

Visit ISKCON Temple between February and April, and between October and December. This time of year is ideal for travellers since the weather is beautiful and the temple is open for visitors. It’s easy to go to the ISKCON Temple in Vrindavan by riding an auto rickshaw or booking a private cab. Nidhivan is a beautiful and expansive garden frequently referred to as Seva Kung. It is among the most popular tourist destinations in the Vrindavan region. This location is bustling with people at all times of the year and in all seasons. The same amount of myths and stories are associated with this location. Others believe that Lord Krishna and Radha carried out their Rasa Leela in this particular garden.

There is a story in certain mythologies that throughout the night, Lord Krishna would come into the garden to dance with his Gopis. Because of this, visitors are not permitted to access the Nidhivan garden during the late hours of the day. More than one thousand five hundred tulsi trees may be seen in the garden that is part of Nidhivan.

Nidhivan may be found in the middle of Vrindavan and is only accessible by rickshaw due to the fact that the roads going there are somewhat small. The distance to Mathura is around 12 kilometres.

Govind Dev Temple

It is a temple devoted to Govind Dev, yet another designation for Lord Krishna. This temple is amazingly gorgeous and has seven stories. The structure of the Govind Dev temple is unlike that of traditional temples in appearance and function. This temple incorporates aspects of Western, Hindu, as well as Muslim styles of architecture into its design. The building was shaped in the style of a Greek cross, constructed out of red sandstone.

The columns and archways that make up the temple’s front give it the appearance of a European cathedral, giving the structure an impressive appearance. To get to the grand lobby, one must first ascend a flight of steps since it is situated on a high platform. During Janmashtami and Holi, the temple is decked up in floral arrangements. The sculpted lotus that adorns the ceilings of the grand lobby weighs many tonnes and is one of the ceiling decorations.

There is an optimal season to visit the temple, which is between October and February. The weather is lovely and soothing throughout the entire day, making the visit even more enjoyable.

A bus stop and train station are both 2 kilometres from the Govind Dev Temple. To go to Govind Dev Temple, you may take an auto-rickshaw or a cycle-rickshaw. Taxis and cabs are other options for travel that can make the trip more pleasant.

Kesi Ghat is widely regarded as among the most important ghats that can be found along the shores of the Yamuna. During the early hours, visitors frequent this location. Mythology has it that when Lord Krishna slew the demon Keshi, he bathed in the Yamuna river after he had cleansed himself of his blood. As a result, Kesi Ghat is well-known for being among the most interesting spots to visit in all of Vrindavan.

In addition, the massive Madanmohan Temple, which can be found in the rear, offers an incredible atmosphere. You also have the option of going on a boat trip here.

The months of October through March are ideal for travel in the northern Indian city of Vrindavan, including Keshi Ghat. Because it is cooler throughout the winter, visitors visiting the ghat don’t have to worry about getting a sunburn or suffering through the oppressive heat that is usual at this time of year. It is located 13.1 kilometres away from Mathura and may be reached through the Mathura Vrindavan Marg.

Sri Radha Damodar Mandir

Tourists go to Vrindavan to see the Sri Radha Damodar temple. You will find this temple in Loi Bazaar, next to Seva Kunj. Sri Radha Damodar Mandir is said to have been established by Guru Srila Jiva Goswami. It is said that Rupa Goswami, Jiva Goswami’s guru, bestowed these deities on him.

Two distinct sections may be found within the temple. The Samadhi hall and the Bhajan Kutir, also known as the prayer hall, are dedicated to Rupa Goswami. Jiva Goswami commissioned the construction of a library on the temple grounds so he could preserve the Goswamis’ first handwritten works.

Although it is open throughout the year, the months of October through March are considered to be the most pleasant times to visit the temple. The weather is mild and pleasant, which makes it simple for you to roam about and appreciate the beauty of the area to an even greater extent. You may take any e-rickshaw in Vrindavan to get here from wherever you are in the city.  It will take you around 5 minutes to get there from Keshi Ghat.

Rangaji Temple

One of the most interesting destinations in Vrindavan is the Shri Rang Nath Ji Mandir. The Rangaji temple is devoted to Lord Rangji, who is widely recognised as an avatar of Lord Vishnu. The Dhwaja Stambha, which is 50 feet in height, is the primary draw of this temple. In addition to this, the temple grounds have some really attractive gardens and a water tank. The Brahmotsavam Festival draws the greatest number of visitors to the Rangaji temple during March and April.

The months of October through December and February through April, when temperatures are typically in the moderate range, are the best times to visit the temple. The Shri Rangji Temple is situated in Vrindavan and is around 11 kilometres away from Mathura and may be reached simply by renting an auto rickshaw or getting a private cab.

Shahji Temple

The Shahji Temple is located 12 kilometres away from the bus stop in Mathura as well as the railway station in that city.

Shah Kundan, a prosperous jeweller from Lucknow, was the primary contributor to the construction of the Shahji Mandir in Vrindavan, which was completed in the year 1860. This temple is dedicated to a manifestation of Lord Krishna, which is designated as Chote Radha Raman.

The temple has a distinctive architectural design made of marble. Within the temple, there is a chamber known as Basant Kamra decorated with gorgeous paintings and chandeliers made of Belgian glass.

The walls of this room are also engraved with intricate designs. You will also discover artworks that reflect the tale of Lord Krishna’s life in a way that is both lovely and detailed. Only two times every year is this chamber available to the general public, although you may always have a peek inside via the glass.

Madan Mohan Temple

Sanatana Goswami built the Madan Mohan temple, originally called Madana Gopala. Lord Madan Gopala is the most prominent deity in this area, and the temple’s spectacular building is a major draw. Red sandstone was used to build the temple, which is oval in form and stands 20 m tall.

Until this day, the flour and water that Santana Goswami is supposed to have cooked and presented to Lord Madan Mohan while wandering on the streets are still offered at the temple.

Between the months of October and April, which correspond to the winter and spring seasons, you will have the best time seeing the Madan Mohan temple and wandering the alleyways of Vrindavan. During this time, the climate in the city is crisp, fresh, and agreeable, and the city also comes to life with a string of celebrations that follow one another in quick succession.

Traveling to the Madan Mohan Temple from Agra, Delhi, or Mathura is simple owing to the availability of taxi services in those cities. It is around 150 kilometres away from Delhi, 90 kilometres away from Agra, and ten kilometres away from Mathura.

The Moscow Metro Museum of Art: 10 Must-See Stations

There are few times one can claim having been on the subway all afternoon and loving it, but the Moscow Metro provides just that opportunity.  While many cities boast famous public transport systems—New York’s subway, London’s underground, San Salvador’s chicken buses—few warrant hours of exploration.  Moscow is different: Take one ride on the Metro, and you’ll find out that this network of railways can be so much more than point A to B drudgery.

The Metro began operating in 1935 with just thirteen stations, covering less than seven miles, but it has since grown into the world’s third busiest transit system ( Tokyo is first ), spanning about 200 miles and offering over 180 stops along the way.  The construction of the Metro began under Joseph Stalin’s command, and being one of the USSR’s most ambitious building projects, the iron-fisted leader instructed designers to create a place full of svet (radiance) and svetloe budushchee (a radiant future), a palace for the people and a tribute to the Mother nation.

Consequently, the Metro is among the most memorable attractions in Moscow.  The stations provide a unique collection of public art, comparable to anything the city’s galleries have to offer and providing a sense of the Soviet era, which is absent from the State National History Museum.  Even better, touring the Metro delivers palpable, experiential moments, which many of us don’t get standing in front of painting or a case of coins.

Though tours are available , discovering the Moscow Metro on your own provides a much more comprehensive, truer experience, something much less sterile than following a guide.  What better place is there to see the “real” Moscow than on mass transit: A few hours will expose you to characters and caricatures you’ll be hard-pressed to find dining near the Bolshoi Theater.  You become part of the attraction, hear it in the screech of the train, feel it as hurried commuters brush by: The Metro sucks you beneath the city and churns you into the mix.

With the recommendations of our born-and-bred Muscovite students, my wife Emma and I have just taken a self-guided tour of what some locals consider the top ten stations of the Moscow Metro. What most satisfied me about our Metro tour was the sense of adventure .  I loved following our route on the maps of the wagon walls as we circled the city, plotting out the course to the subsequent stops; having the weird sensation of being underground for nearly four hours; and discovering the next cavern of treasures, playing Indiana Jones for the afternoon, piecing together fragments of Russia’s mysterious history.  It’s the ultimate interactive museum.

Top Ten Stations (In order of appearance)

Kievskaya station.

nearest places to visit from vrindavan

Kievskaya Station went public in March of 1937, the rails between it and Park Kultury Station being the first to cross the Moscow River.  Kievskaya is full of mosaics depicting aristocratic scenes of Russian life, with great cameo appearances by Lenin, Trotsky, and Stalin.  Each work has a Cyrillic title/explanation etched in the marble beneath it; however, if your Russian is rusty, you can just appreciate seeing familiar revolutionary dates like 1905 ( the Russian Revolution ) and 1917 ( the October Revolution ).

Mayakovskaya Station

Mayakovskaya Station ranks in my top three most notable Metro stations. Mayakovskaya just feels right, done Art Deco but no sense of gaudiness or pretention.  The arches are adorned with rounded chrome piping and create feeling of being in a jukebox, but the roof’s expansive mosaics of the sky are the real showstopper.  Subjects cleverly range from looking up at a high jumper, workers atop a building, spires of Orthodox cathedrals, to nimble aircraft humming by, a fleet of prop planes spelling out CCCP in the bluest of skies.

Novoslobodskaya Station

nearest places to visit from vrindavan

Novoslobodskaya is the Metro’s unique stained glass station.  Each column has its own distinctive panels of colorful glass, most of them with a floral theme, some of them capturing the odd sailor, musician, artist, gardener, or stenographer in action.  The glass is framed in Art Deco metalwork, and there is the lovely aspect of discovering panels in the less frequented haunches of the hall (on the trackside, between the incoming staircases).  Novosblod is, I’ve been told, the favorite amongst out-of-town visitors.

Komsomolskaya Station

Komsomolskaya Station is one of palatial grandeur.  It seems both magnificent and obligatory, like the presidential palace of a colonial city.  The yellow ceiling has leafy, white concrete garland and a series of golden military mosaics accenting the tile mosaics of glorified Russian life.  Switching lines here, the hallway has an Alice-in-Wonderland feel, impossibly long with decorative tile walls, culminating in a very old station left in a remarkable state of disrepair, offering a really tangible glimpse behind the palace walls.

Dostoevskaya Station

nearest places to visit from vrindavan

Dostoevskaya is a tribute to the late, great hero of Russian literature .  The station at first glance seems bare and unimpressive, a stark marble platform without a whiff of reassembled chips of tile.  However, two columns have eerie stone inlay collages of scenes from Dostoevsky’s work, including The Idiot , The Brothers Karamazov , and Crime and Punishment.   Then, standing at the center of the platform, the marble creates a kaleidoscope of reflections.  At the entrance, there is a large, inlay portrait of the author.

Chkalovskaya Station

Chkalovskaya does space Art Deco style (yet again).  Chrome borders all.  Passageways with curvy overhangs create the illusion of walking through the belly of a chic, new-age spacecraft.  There are two (kos)mosaics, one at each end, with planetary subjects.  Transferring here brings you above ground, where some rather elaborate metalwork is on display.  By name similarity only, I’d expected Komsolskaya Station to deliver some kosmonaut décor; instead, it was Chkalovskaya that took us up to the space station.

Elektrozavodskaya Station

nearest places to visit from vrindavan

Elektrozavodskaya is full of marble reliefs of workers, men and women, laboring through the different stages of industry.  The superhuman figures are round with muscles, Hollywood fit, and seemingly undeterred by each Herculean task they respectively perform.  The station is chocked with brass, from hammer and sickle light fixtures to beautiful, angular framework up the innards of the columns.  The station’s art pieces are less clever or extravagant than others, but identifying the different stages of industry is entertaining.

Baumanskaya Statio

Baumanskaya Station is the only stop that wasn’t suggested by the students.  Pulling in, the network of statues was just too enticing: Out of half-circle depressions in the platform’s columns, the USSR’s proud and powerful labor force again flaunts its success.  Pilots, blacksmiths, politicians, and artists have all congregated, posing amongst more Art Deco framing.  At the far end, a massive Soviet flag dons the face of Lenin and banners for ’05, ’17, and ‘45.  Standing in front of the flag, you can play with the echoing roof.

Ploshchad Revolutsii Station

nearest places to visit from vrindavan

Novokuznetskaya Station

Novokuznetskaya Station finishes off this tour, more or less, where it started: beautiful mosaics.  This station recalls the skyward-facing pieces from Mayakovskaya (Station #2), only with a little larger pictures in a more cramped, very trafficked area.  Due to a line of street lamps in the center of the platform, it has the atmosphere of a bustling market.  The more inventive sky scenes include a man on a ladder, women picking fruit, and a tank-dozer being craned in.  The station’s also has a handsome black-and-white stone mural.

Here is a map and a brief description of our route:

Start at (1)Kievskaya on the “ring line” (look for the squares at the bottom of the platform signs to help you navigate—the ring line is #5, brown line) and go north to Belorusskaya, make a quick switch to the Dark Green/#2 line, and go south one stop to (2)Mayakovskaya.  Backtrack to the ring line—Brown/#5—and continue north, getting off at (3)Novosblodskaya and (4)Komsolskaya.  At Komsolskaya Station, transfer to the Red/#1 line, go south for two stops to Chistye Prudy, and get on the Light Green/#10 line going north.  Take a look at (5)Dostoevskaya Station on the northern segment of Light Green/#10 line then change directions and head south to (6)Chkalovskaya, which offers a transfer to the Dark Blue/#3 line, going west, away from the city center.  Have a look (7)Elektroskaya Station before backtracking into the center of Moscow, stopping off at (8)Baumskaya, getting off the Dark Blue/#3 line at (9)Ploschad Revolyutsii.  Change to the Dark Green/#2 line and go south one stop to see (10)Novokuznetskaya Station.

nearest places to visit from vrindavan

The 2024 solar eclipse is fast approaching, and tourists, school districts and even entire counties are preparing for the big day.

Where are the best spots to view the total solar eclipse in Texas? Here are a few options

As Texans make viewing arrangements for April 8, perhaps the most important question to ask is...

Where can I get free solar eclipse glasses?

Retail company Warby Parker is giving away free, ISO-certified solar glasses in preparation of the event. They will be available April 1 through April 8, or while supplies last. Click here to find a Warby Parker near you.

Towards the end of March, Texas A&M University Libraries will offer free solar eclipse glasses while supplies last. Click here to see the complete schedule .

Several school districts are also providing free solar eclipse glasses. The Solar Eclipse Safety Glasses Grant Application is now closed, but the program states it has provided the necessary funding for over 3,000 classrooms .

Solar Eclipse Activities for Libraries (SEAL) has also run out of its supply of solar eclipse glasses and closed registration.

How to tell if your solar eclipse glasses are safe

Guidelines for safely viewing the solar eclipse can be found on the American Astronomical Society’s site .

"We do  not  recommend searching for eclipse glasses on Amazon, eBay, Temu, or any other online marketplace and buying from whichever vendor offers the lowest price," the site cautions. "Before you buy a solar viewer or filter online, we recommend that you make sure that (1) the seller is identified on the site and (2) the seller is listed on this page ."

Some Texas schools are canceling classes for the solar eclipse on April 8. Is yours?

The American Astronomical Society has listed reliable companies selling eclipse-viewing equipment and categorized them according to the type of equipment.

If you buy eclipse glasses, be sure they are made by companies the  American Astronomical Society  and NASA has certified as safe for use. They should all have the "ISO" (International Organization for Standardization) icon. The glasses also must have the  ISO reference number 12312-2 .

The Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, home to around 7 million people, falls into the path of totality,  according to the Great American Eclipse website . Around 12 million Texans in total will have optimal viewing of the eclipse — more than in any other U.S. state.

Biden's reaction to Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene's MAGA garb at SOTU goes viral

nearest places to visit from vrindavan

President Joe Biden made waves before he even arrived at the lectern to give his State of the Union address Thursday when his reaction to seeing Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., wearing a "Make American Great Again" hat went viral.

Biden's speech has been considered by many as a kickoff to a general election rematch with former President Donald Trump, though Biden never named Trump explicitly.

Greene's hat with the slogan popularized by Trump was just the first time she put Biden on the spot Thursday. She later shouted out from the audience "Laken Riley," whose accused killer entered the country without authorization, as Biden was talking about border control.

But it was Biden's when he saw Greene in that signature red hat that had social media tickled.

One post on X summed it up by calling it the "best political theater our tax dollars can buy!!!"

Prep for the polls: See who is running for president and compare where they stand on key issues in our Voter Guide

State of the Union fact check: What President Joe Biden got wrong (and right)

Many on social media applaud Biden for providing a laugh

"Imagine getting cooked like this by the President of the United States, brutal," one user wrote on X , formerly Twitter.

"Even MTG couldn’t keep a straight face at Biden’s perfect reaction to her costume," Tristan Snell wrote on X . "She’s an amateur. He’s a pro."

"This amazing clip of Biden vs MTG proves to me he has all his marbles, all his mental faculties, all his sense of humor – and that he is going to win in November," said Eric Feigl-Ding in a post on X .

Some accuse Marjorie Taylor Greene of breaking House rules

A few posts accuse Greene of breaking the House of Representatives rules on conduct and attire.

The House of Representatives Committee on Ethics forbids using official resources for campaign purposes and includes House buildings, and House rooms and offices as official resources. "Accordingly, as a general rule, they may not be used for the conduct of campaign or political activities," the Committee on Ethics website states.

Greene addressed the controversy over the hat after the State of the Union on the Right Side Broadcasting Network.

"I caught a lot of flak from the Democrats," Greene said, noting that Representatives are not supposed to be political in the chamber before pointing the finger back at Biden and accusing him of making the State of the Union address a campaign speech.

"We're not supposed to wear hats on the House floor, and I said, 'I'll pay the fine.'"

Republicans stoke 'confusion' flames over Biden's reaction

While many took Biden's reaction with a laugh, others praised Greene in the interaction.

"God Bless MTG for this," one user wrote, whose bio said he is an author endorsed by Trump.

An account managed by the Republican National Committee posted the clip saying, "Biden has one mode: confused."

Greene was also wearing a shirt with "Say Her Name Laken Riley" printed on it, foreshadowing her heckling later in the address. In response to Green's interruption, Biden appeared to mispronounce Riley's name.

He also called Riley's accused killer an "illegal, " a term that liberals consider outdated and is more commonly used by conservatives.
