We think it’s a universal fact that autumn invokes a sense of adventure. There’s just something in the air that makes you want to rent a cabin up north for the weekend, take a road trip across the country or fly to see your sister in New York. No matter what your adventure looks like, we want to make sure you look good getting there. That’s why we’ve compiled some of the best styles to keep you looking fresh, no matter where you are.

1. Messy Bun : An oldie but goodie, this style is so easy to do. Even better, it gives you a “messy on purpose” look, while also being practical by keeping hair out of your face. (via Beautylish )

2. Bouffant Side Pony : Traveling never looked so chic with this bouffant/side pony combo. Sleek, yet subtle, it’s made even more awesome with vintage accessories . (via I Spy DIY )

29. Twisted Back Side Ponytail : Okay, we just can’t get enough of these uber stylish side ponytails. This twisty, ropey look will make you appear put-together, no matter how long that layover is. (via A Beautiful Mess )

30. A Simple Top Knot: Yes, this is usually our favorite after-work look. Yet, that’s also what makes it perfect for a weekend trip to the beach! Cool, but collected. (via Treasures and Travels)

31. Fishtail Braid : Ain’t nothing wrong with keeping it simple and classic. (via Brit + Co )

32. Low Chignon : For trendy girls on the go, this beautiful bun is built for distance. Plus, it has that extra bit of sass that can go from runway to runway . (via The Small Things )

33. Messy Fishtail : Braids are one of our favorite trends this season. And what better way to show the entire world how you can flawlessly stay on trend, while still rocking who you are. (via Confessions of a Hairstylist )

12 Effective Shampoos for Straight Hair that Add Body and Shine

5 quick and comfy travel-friendly hairstyles.

Travel with ease and comfort with these fun hairstyles.

In case you didn’t know, planning travel outfits is actually a thing. You know what’s also a thing? Finding the right hairstyle that’s quick, cute and comfortable to wear while traveling. Hairstyles like mid-buns and ponytails may be quite uncomfy when it’s time for a nap. Ever wondered why the center of your head felt like you got hit by something hard after a long flight? Yeah, blame your bun. And sometimes, wearing your hair down or out can leave you with parched hair — thanks to the dry airplane air. So, how about trying out hairstyles that ensure a sound rest and tangle-free hair all while still being stylish? Sounds like to perfect travel plan to us! Whether you’re taking a road trip or flying across the country, here are some of our favorite travel-friendly hairstyles to wear during your commute.

Comfy and Cute Travel-Friendly Hairstyles

travel-friendly hairstyle blonde hair bun

1. Undone Top Knot

Ideal travel-friendly hairstyles for the rough sleeper and for the gal that simply has no time to do her hair before her red eye, involve a style that is undone, but still cute. Sweep your hair up into a messy bun. Make sure your bun is high enough to maximize comfort. This hairstyle is so easy you could do it on a plane.

travel-friendly hairstyle four strand braid long hair

2. Side Braid Ponytail

This look is a bit more polished and great for traveling, especially if you’re heading straight to your destination without any time to pull yourself together. Smooth hair into a low ponytail, then create an intricate side plait. Opt for our four-sided braid  for a more stylish and modern touch. Be sure to finish off the look with a hairspray like Dove Style + Care Strength & Shine Extra Hold Hairspray for hold.

travel-friendly hairstyle twisted hair

3. Twist & Pin Hairstyle

This style is one of the easiest travel-friendly hairstyles to do while you’re en route to your destination. Create a low ponytail then secure with a hair tie. Twist two front sections of your hair, and pull it towards the back of your head. Gather your twisted sections and ponytail together to create a bun.

4. Natural Hair Top Knot

Resting on pillow soft curls while you travel can feel comfy, but sometimes the feeling of your curls grazing across your face and neck can feel annoying. Wrap your hair up into a quick top knot hairstyle. If your curls feel parched, reach for your travel sized oil or hair serum and smooth onto your curls before creating your bun. Try Suave Professionals Moroccan Infusion Styling Oil   as this formula works to revive and condition your locks, resulting in shiny and smooth hair. Once you’ve arrived at your destination, undo the bun, give your hair a shake, and let your curls free.

5. Low Undone Side Bun

These days, it’s all about having the perfect in-flight beauty routine that will leave you looking and feeling fresh. Prep your hair before you move onto your in-flight skin care routine. Here’s an easy sheet mask-friendly style (meaning all your hair is out of your face), and a great way to create subtle waves to your ends post-commute. Gather hair into a low side ponytail and loop around, leaving the ends out to create a messy bun. To enhance the wavy effect, opt for some sea salt spray. This formula can create all-over body in your hair and a loose texture that’s designed to last up to 24 hours! Before you begin to disembark, undo the bun and tousle your hair.

The 9 Best Hairstyles for Traveling

When traveling, we usually can’t bring our usual arsenal of products and styling tools to ensure that every day is a good hair day. Suitcase space is at a premium, especially when we fly! Luckily, these easy hairstyles go from the plane to out on the town with minimal touch-ups. Spend less time styling your hair and more time exploring your destination with these easy travel hairstyles. Vacation selfie approved! Keep reading for the best travel hairstyles.

9 Easy Hairstyles for Your Next Flight

easy travel hairstyles

Simple Hairstyle #1: Bun with a Headband

The messy bun is our go-to easy hairstyle for air travel because it takes less than 10 seconds to style (perfect for early flights). This quick and easy hairstyle is also a chic way to disguise greasy roots. When you reach your destination, add a dash of glam with a sparkly headband. A spritz of Toppik Hair Building Fibers will hide any scalp show-through, add thickness to locks that have fallen flat, and help polish your look.

Simple Hairstyle #2: Space Buns

Are your roots looking oily after taking the red-eye? Perfect. This on-trend, easy travel hairstyle looks better with slightly dirty hair. Sprinkle your roots with a little bit of powdered dry shampoo like Batiste™ . Then part your hair down the middle and tie each section into a top knot. Place the knots high so they don’t press against the headrest on the flight. Use a couple of bobby pins to help secure the space buns, and you have an easy airport hairstyle!

fishtail braids airport hairstyles.jpg

Simple Hairstyle #3: Fishtail Braid

Braids make excellent, easy travel hairstyles because they can cause less breakage than ponytails. We love the fishtail braid because it looks complicated but is a surprisingly easy hairstyle.

First, divide your hair into two sections. Take a small piece from the outside of the left section, wrap it over the top of that left section, and tuck it underneath the right section. Repeat this step on the other side, wrapping a small piece of hair from the right section underneath the left section. Continue alternating these steps between the left and right sections until all hair is braided, then secure with a hair tie.

scrunchie travel hairstyles

Simple Hairstyle #4: Add a Scrunchie

The easiest way to make messy hair look Instagram-ready? Add a scrunchie! These soft fabric hair ties look cute and give hair extra volume. Plus, since they’re soft, they’re less likely to cause breakage than other hair ties. Tie your hair in a half ponytail or a top knot for an easy hairstyle. Bonus points if you match your scrunchie to your outfit!

french braids best hairstyles for traveling

Simple Hairstyle #5: French Braid

Going to the beach? Try a single or double French braid . French braids hold every hair firmly in place, ensuring that hair stays tangle-free even in water or on windy days. Plus, this look has another easy hairstyle built-in: you can undo your braid in the evening for effortlessly cool waves.

hairstyles for airplane traveling

Simple Hairstyle #6: High Ponytail

Make a traditional ponytail into an airplane-ready style by moving up its placement to the crown of your head. That way, your ponytail won’t press against the headrest on the airplane. To minimize breakage, secure the ponytail with a scrunchie rather than an elastic hair tie.

beanie best travel hairstyles

Simple Hairstyle #7: Wear a Beanie

When in doubt, wear a beanie. A soft knit hat hides greasy roots and messy hair. Plus, you can pull it down over your eyes for an eye mask in a pinch! You can either wear your hair down or pull your hair into two loose braids – either make a great hairstyle for airplane travel!

pineapple easy vacation hairstyle

Simple Hairstyle #8: Pineapple Ponytail

We love this travel-friendly look for curly-haired ladies. For an effortless pineapple ponytail , apply hair oil to the ends to keep strands moisturized in-flight, then secure the hair with a spiral hair tie at the crown. Finally, add a scarf for an extra pop of color.

pineapple easy vacation hairstyle

Simple Hairstyle #9:  Low Side Braid

Pulling your braid to the side means your hair won’t rub up against the back of your headrest. Plus, this airplane hairstyle couldn’t be more effortless! Pull hair to the side, braid, and secure it with a hair tie. If your hair is above collarbone length, use a bobby pin to secure the back and keep this side-parted style in place.

Are you going on vacation soon? Will you try any of these easy vacation hairstyles? Let us know in the comments!

7 Backpacking Hairstyles: Cute, Heatless, Easy Travel Hairstyles

Are you looking for quick and simple backpacking hairstyles? You came to the right place!

In this article, I will show you the best hairstyles for traveling that are easy, cute, and require no heat!

When I go backpacking, I want my hair to look cute, but I don’t want to spend too much time on it. I pack minimal hair styling products as I tend to pack in personal items only , so the space I work with is minimal.

This article is for all my girly backpackers looking for easy hairstyles for travel!

I always get compliments on my hairstyles when I travel and on my Instagram, and I think it is funny because it takes me no time!

I don’t like to have my hair flying around or touching me when I’m hot, so I always look for cute hairstyles for traveling.

As a solo female traveler, my main criterion is that my travel hairstyles keep the hair out of my face, are easy to create, and look good in photos.

Keep on reading to learn all my best travel hairstyles!

Disclaimer: This post may contain affiliate links, which means I may receive a commission, at no extra cost to you, if you make a purchase through a link. I hope you find the information here helpful!

Best backpacking hairstyles

I will organize these travel hairstyles based on how many days you can go without washing your hair, and they can still look good. As a backpacker, you know it is a very important criterium.

You can create all these easy hairstyles for traveling yourself in your hostel dorm room or bathroom with a nice mirror.

However, for the last one, you might need two mirrors or help from a friend you made while traveling .

1. Half-up ponytail

girl with a Half-up ponytail hairstyle backpacking

Half-up ponytail is an effortless hairstyle that takes less than 2 minutes to make. It could take 30 seconds if your hair ties nicely on the first try, without awkward bumps.

This hairstyle works great for all types and lengths of hair, as you are only tying up the top layer of your hair. It looks amazing on curly hair!

This hairstyle works best for 2nd to 3rd-day hair, as I like to keep my hair loosely tied with some front pieces framing the face. However, adding dry shampoo helps to make it look good for longer!

  • Hair type : All types of hair; long, short, straight, curly
  • Tools : 1 Hair tie or a claw clip
  • Days without washing: 2nd to 3rd-day hairstyle
  • Time : 1-2 minutes

2. Half-up braid

girl facing backwards with a half up braid in antwerp

Half-up braid is an elevated version of a half-up pony. For this hairstyle, I gather the same amount of hair as for the half pony and braid it down. You could do a half pony first and then braid it down if you want your hairstyle to be tighter.

Similarly, as the half pony, this hairstyle works best for 2nd to 3rd-day hair. It looks great in photos on straight hair because it adds some texture to the hair!

Half braids are fantastic travel hairstyles for medium hair, as you can see in the second photo.

  • Tools : 1 small elastic or 1 big hair tie, or both!
  • Days without washing : 2nd to 3rd-day hairstyle
  • Time : 2-3 minutes

3. French braid

a girl overlooking kotor cove with a french braid hairstyle

French braid is such a versatile hairstyle! If you are good at braiding your own hair, it takes you less than 1 minute to make it.

If your hair is wet, a quick French braid is the best travel hairstyle!

While it is definitely a cute hairstyle, I mainly do it as a heatless curls method for traveling.  If you saw my hair with more texture in some photos, I probably let it air-dry in a French braid.

And here is a tip for my girls with fine, straight hair! If you want to add more texture to your hair while traveling, let it dry in a French braid. It is the best hairstyle for fine hair as it gives you so much texture to work with.

  • Tools : 1 small elastic or 1 big hair tie

4. High Ponytail

a girl in granada facing backwards with her hair in a ponytail

We are going back to the basics with a ponytail. Yes, everybody can make it, and it takes no effort at all. However, it gets your hair out of your face and brings back the volume your greasy hair needs.

Some people might want to go for a low ponytail. They look elegant if it works for you! However, it does not work for me.

A ponytail is a fantastic hairstyle for active travel days, a great hiking hairstyle, and if you sleek down your hair, a ponytail can also be an elegant hairstyle.

Don’t underestimate the power of a ponytail!

  • Tools : 1 big hair tie
  • Days without washing : 3rd-day hairstyle

5. Simple bun

a girl with a bun in paros greece

Sometimes, you just want your hair not to touch you, especially if you’re backpacking Europe in summer . I can’t count how many times I gave up on having my hair down, just to put it in a messy bun on top of my head.

However, spend 3-5 minutes making your bun look nice, and it is a great travel hairstyle.

I found that a bun looks and stays in my hair best when my hair is longer.

The way I do my bun is like bun #3 in this hair tutorial (go to 2:00 to see the bun I am talking about) This bun stays in place the whole day once I add a couple of bobby pins!

  • Hair type : Works best on hair longer than shoulder length, straight or curly
  • Tools : 1 big hair tie and 4 bobby pins, or 1 claw clip
  • Days without washing : 3rd – 4th-day hairstyle
  • Time : 3-5 minutes

6. Half-up double dutch braids

half double dutch braids hairstyle

We are getting into some more complex backpacking hairstyles. Half-up double Dutch braids will take approximately 5-10 minutes to make, depending on how good you are at braiding your own hair.

Nonetheless, this hairstyle is worth the effort. Nobody will know you haven’t washed your hair in days. It looks fabulous in the photos!  It is my most complimented hairstyle on my Instagram.

Also, this is one of the best travel hairstyles for medium hair. As you can see in the second photo, your hair doesn’t need to be long for it to look good!

  • Tools : 2 small hair ties or 1 big hair tie
  • Days without washing : 3rd day and more!
  • Time : 5-10 minutes

7. Double Dutch braids

girl with double dutch braids hairstyle backpacking, sitting in the mountains looking at the landscape

Finally, we have the double dutch braids. They are one of my favorite cute hiking hairstyles that works great for active days on your vacation itinerary .

It takes some effort to make this hairstyle, but it is worth it.

Once you braid your hair in double dutch braids, it stays put for a whole day, even two! Some people keep it in for even longer, but my scalp starts hurting after a while.

These hairstyles for hiking take some time. Firstly, you need to evenly divide your hair. For that, you need two mirrors or help from a friend. Then you have to braid it.

I admit that this hairstyle can look better when somebody else makes it for you, but I do it myself. It works best on longer hair, but you can do it on shorter hair!

This hairstyle works great if you’re backpacking in winter and you want to wear a hat outside and have your hair look good when you take it off as well.

  • Tools : 2 small hair ties

What’s my hair type?

I wanted to quickly address this, as you will see in the photos, my hair is relatively long and straight .

It gets greasy quickly, so ideally I would wash it every three days.

If you can go longer between the washes, I am jealous!

However, these hairstyles keep my hair looking fresh for longer and look great in photos.

These are my best travel hairstyles for long hair and medium-length hair . I will show you examples of how they worked on my hair when it was a different length.

However, most of them can work as hairstyles for short hair too!

My hair is straight, but all these hairstyles work great on wavy to curly hair.  Unfortunately, I don’t know much about coily, or natural hair, but if you girls try it out, let me know!

Travel hair styling essentials for backpacking

My travel hair care routine is very simple. Depending on the length of the trip, I will pack travel-sized bottles of my usual shampoo and conditioner or a solid shampoo bar.

I will transfer my usual hair products in travel-sized bottles for up to a month-long trip. I find it best if you can keep your regular hair care routine while traveling. It is also a great way to save money for travel .

I will bring a solid shampoo bar if I am backpacking for more than a month.

You could buy full-sized products once you reach your destination, but I don’t like the additional weight in my backpack.

I don’t bother bringing dry shampoo if I travel in hot climates. You can easily wash your hair, and it will be air-dried in an hour. On the other hand, if I travel in the winter, I will pack a travel-sized dry shampoo bottle.

Hair styling must-haves for backpacking

  • Hairbrush – Tangle Teezer
  • Regular hair ties
  • Small elastics

I love my Tangle Teezer brush because it t is compact and efficient. It is the best hair brush for traveling and the only hair tool I bring backpacking!

You will also need hair ties. Pack at least 3 regular-sized hair ties that can hold your hair securely in a ponytail. Then, pack at least 10 mini hair elastics. Unfortunately, they tend to snap easily and be single-use products.

I pack at least 5 bobby pins. That is how many I need for my bun to stay in place. If your hair is thick and curly, pack as many as you need!

Finally, bring a claw clip. You can clip it to your backpack, and it is the easiest way to wrap your hair in a quick bun!

No girl in this world can deny the fact that they have this immense love for their hair. We girls honestly are obsessed with our hair. There are different hairstyles for women that women know will look good on them. But there are a few hairstyles for women you probably don’t know of yet, but they will save your hair while travelling. We’ve got your back girls.

Let us walk you through the door you never opened. We will suggest you a hairstyle that will not only save your hair from damage but also are stylish and trendy.

Here are hairstyles for women according to the season:

Winter hairstyles for women:.

Winter is nice weather for your hair. You can style your hair in many ways and not worry about the frizz and heat that your hair faces in summer. But travelling can make your hair face a lot of dryness and dirt that can make your hair frizzy and brittle. What if we give you hairstyles that can actually make your hair face lesser damage? Told ya! Got your back girl! Keep reading!

Short hair:

Parted twists:

This is one of the easiest and quickest hairstyles for women that you can make. It will literally take you a minute to make it. You just have to part your hair from the front in the middle and then take your front hair, twist it, and tie it at the back with a bobby pin. Repeat the same for the other side and TADA! You are done and super ready. This will not only save your hair from the wind but make it less frizzy.

This is your party-ready look and you can carry it with a cute casual outfit

Two space buns

If you are that girl who doesn’t like to spend time on her hair-do and doesn’t like to play with them. Part your hair from the middle into equal halves and make a high bun on each side with the help of a rubber band. Do this and forget about your hair for the rest of the day. Another casual day-ready look that is superbly easy and looks damn cool.

Hairstyles for women in winter

Half up top knot (High)

Hair handling is a pain for you, but style is also important, right? IDEA! Take the first half of your hair and bun it up high. This hairstyle for women is trending for a reason. These days we do not want to spend much time on our hair but still want a look that will make us shine like a star. Well girls, here is what you asked for.

Half up top knot (Low)

Half up top knot (low) is the same as that of half up top knot (high). The only difference is the placement of the bun. This knot is placed at the nape of the neck. The making of the bun is the same as that of the high knot. Take the front part of the hair and tie a half knot at the back of your head and not on the crown.

Dutch braid buns

Every girl must be aware of Dutch braids. It is just the easiest braid that you can make and will not take you more than five minutes.

Dutch boxer braids

These hairstyles for women are comfortable and will not make your hair frizz out when you are on the go. Part your hair into two equal halves and make a Dutch braid on each side.

Dutch boxer braids are the best when you want to protect your hair from city pollution and dryness. Apart from this, your hair looks trendy and casual as ever. This protects your hair and is stylish enough to go with your attire.

Ribbon pony

Your hair is long and pretty. You can easily tie an elastic band on your head to tie your hair into a ponytail and then wrap that band with a ribbon. If you have a wavy hair texture, this is the best and easiest hairstyle for you. This gives a cute look to your hair and personality.

Beach waves

Beach waves are beautifully loose curls that can suit everyday casual, business and event looks. You do not need to tie them up or even bun them up. These are the best, most relaxed hairstyle for you.

Twisted side braid

Twist your front hair to one side and braid them from the side. This will be your twisted side braid. As simple and as beautiful as ever. Go ethnic or go classy, this will make you look gorgeous.

The side braid is another simple and classy way to style your hair and look elegant. Instead of making a dutch braid at the back you make it on the side. You can always accessorize your look with a fancy hairband or a hair clip or even a scarf. This is your everyday classy and beautiful look that only takes a minute or two.

Summer hairstyles for women:

Summers are neither good for your skin nor your hair. You need to take extra care of your skin during summers . Travelling in summer means, dust and sun extended exposure to your skin and hair. You will have to take care of your hair a lot. But apart from that, there are also a few hairstyles that will help you save your hair from the heat and city dirt.

You might also want to know how to take care of your hair when on the go .

Double-ups are two Dutch braids wrapped up to make them into double buns half-up. This hairstyle for women is trendy and super easy to make. Pull them up and forget about taking care of them for the entire day.

Lazy side pony

As the name suggests, this is a lazy ponytail. For every girl, it is super easy to tie a ponytail. All you have to do is grab all your hair and tie them low with an elastic band at the side of your head.

Chasing waterfalls

This hairstyle for women is one of the cutest hairstyles. You might take time to learn this hairstyle but when you do, you will look gorgeous and will make it faster. Chasing waterfalls look beautiful in a full-length dress or a short dress. You do not need any hair accessories to beautify this hairstyle. Chasing waterfall can be a long-hair hairstyle for women too.

The blunt bob is a hairstyle that your hairdresser can make and you can easily use this style in different ways. You can have straight hair or a light curl. Both ways your hair will look amazing and your personality will flourish. A blunt bob is just a haircut. You can always accessorize it using different hair accessories. It is a simple, low-maintenance hairstyle.

Sleek fishtail

Fishtail is a sleek and classy braid that you do not need to think of before making. Fishtails go with any attire and you need only two minutes to make them when you are a pro at making them. And if you are not a pro, with a little practice you can be 🙂

Rope braid ponytail

Ever tried making rope braid ponytail and failed? Yeah! We know. This Particular hairstyle is a beautiful look and is made to look like a rope. Maybe to give you a Rapunzel look. But the final result of it is A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. You look like a princess and you feel one too.

Bubble ponytail

A bubble ponytail is a fancy ponytail that goes with any attire and makes long hair look beautiful. This is a simple hairstyle and will take you less than 3 minutes to make it. A bubble ponytail helps you to keep your hair intact since the entire hair is tied. So, no chance of frizz.

Double twisted bun

Part your hair in two equal parts and make a twist on each side of your hair and roll them into a bun on each side. That is your double-twisted side bun. This is your party-ready look, any-day travel look or just another day look. You are more than ready girl!

Half-up rope braid

This hairstyle is half open and half rope braided. This gives a beautiful and cute look to your personality. Wear it with any attire and you will just beautify your look, nothing else.

Fishtail braid bun

The fish braid bun is a bun made from fishtail braid. You make a one-sided fishtail braid and wrap the braid into a bun. So that way you combine two hairstyles and prepare a beautiful hairstyle for yourself. Here is how you do it.

Humid hairstyles for women:

Fun fact: The hair follicle is made up of protein, hydrogen, oxygen, and a few other amino acids. The more water content in hair, the straighter the hair is. Which means curly hair is naturally dry. When you head towards a humid destination your hair tends to absorb the moisture in the air and thus become frizzy. Before you jump into hairstyles you might also want to read some tips to maintain frizzy hair and which serum works best.

Here are a few hairstyles for a humid environment, to keep your hair away from the frizz and make them manageable.

Braided bun

Braid is the best way to avoid your hair from getting frizzy. Above I have already given a few hairstyles for braided buns. Try those or style your hair your own way. Braid the sides and bun it later, make multiple braids and bun them all at the back or you can even braid the hair and bun it on the side.

Messy up-do

The most classy and easy hairstyle is the messy updo. This is a raw hairstyle and looks great. It is a hairstyle you can adapt to when you do not want to do much to your hair and still want to look great and stand out from the crowd. This can be a low and a high bun.

Yes, it is as simple as the name shows. Just tie a knot on with your hair and use bobby pins to keep it intact. The tie knot hairstyle is a clean and simple bun hairstyle for women and can be made of half or full of hair.

Funky ponytail

Ponytails are the easiest way to style your hair and all it takes is 3-4 minutes to complete the hairstyle. Here are a few ways in which you can style your hair and still be frizz-free all day long. Go, girl! Style your day.

Milkmaid bun

This is the best hairstyle for women who are travelling to a humid destination. Milkmaid one-side braid keeps your hair intact as no segment of your hair is out in the open. No open equals no frizz.

It might be a little tough to make at first but getting used to it means being a pro day by day. it is also a beautiful hairstyle by the way. Here is what you have to do to make it. Milkmaid one-side bun is the one hairstyle that you can carry with any possible attire while on the go.

We hope you have a great vacation and we also hope that this article helped you manage your bad hair day and convert it into a gorgeous hair day. Let us know in the comments section below and tell us about your experience with these hairstyles.

7 Travel Hairstyles for Natural Hair + Locs

99 problems, don’t let hair be one!

Traveling is stressful when you think about packing the right number of outfits, for every possible scenario, and the shoes to go with. Plus, having the right combination of clothes (many of which never escape the luggage), along with planning activities too.

When traveling, my hairstyle is not on my list of things to worry about. My focus on healthy hair, seamless hair, and styles that compliment me in any given situation and saves time is key.

Natural hair has been good to me. I’m so carefree. Sweating my hair out, dipping in the ocean, or hiking in the rainforest don’t bother me!

Here are a few of my favorite travel hairstyles to maintain healthy hair while traveling:

Check out 7 travel hairstyles for natural hair and locs. Click To Tweet

1. pipe cleaners with natural hair + locs.

Oh the things you can do with pipe cleaners! The flexible wires/rods are available in assorted shapes, sizes, and colors. Find them wherever arts & crafts or office supplies are sold. I love pipe cleaners with my natural hair. They offer versatility as you see in my travel hairstyle above. With my dreadlocks in pipe cleaners I’m able to achieve a shorter hairstyle. My hair is away from my face and protected from elements. This style quickly lets down for nights out on the town. Yes, I can wash my hair and swim with pipe cleaners. I always follow any dips in the ocean with a good wash, leave-in conditioner, and oils.

2. Flat twists

Flat twists with a bun or pony tail helped me travel with ease in Bali . When traveling in hot climates, I like to keep my hair up and out of my face. The flat twists offer a different look and stays secure in place. Bring on the adventures!

3. Twists and messy bun

Beaching in Turks and Caicos with my hair in a twisted high bun. This hairstyle seamlessly lets down and maintains a curled/wavy pattern offering an alternative hairstyle fresh out the water.

4. Locs and curls

When on the sand and out of the water, I love to rock a head full of curls. Talking about bouncing and behaving! These tight curls stay in place until taken out.

5. Twisted and pulled up

Elegant and functional hairstyle incorporates flat twists in a high bun.

6. Braided pin-up

Braids or plats worn up or down are super adaptable. Since I’m always hot, I like my hair out of my face in tropical climates. My floppy hat easily slips over my locs. I’m ready to hit the town.

7. On the side

Not sure what it is about wearing my hair to the side but I love it too! Can easily accomplish a messy bun, pony tail, or pin-up.

8. Bonus: Pipe cleaners with natural hair + locs

So, these are a few of my favorite travel hairstyles for natural hair and locs. With every style, I can swim and go about my travels without worrying about my hair. These styles are also great on the plane.

My hair essentials: Jojoba, castor, and tea tree oils are my favorite to maintain moisture and balance when traveling. I usually don’t leave home without my pipe cleaners.

What are your favorite travel hairstyles to rock on the road?

4 Travel-Friendly Hairstyles for Your Next Trip

Styling your hair takes a little more effort when you’re traveling. No matter if you’re all set to go on a trip with your friends or spend time with your loved one in an exotic place, it can be challenging to find a low-maintenance hairstyle.

While it’s always a good idea to carry along essential hair styling tools and products for long vacations, you’ll want to spend more time enjoying your trip than styling your hair. But at the same time, you want to rock a beautiful hairstyle and capture Instagram-worthy photos. Here are some tips to get you through.

Table of Content

What if Your Hair Lacks Length and Volume?

If you’re concerned about your short, thin, or less voluminous hair, we recommend you get a set of clip-in extensions for your next trip. Clip-in wefts are best for traveling because you can apply and remove them yourself within a matter of minutes.

Clip-in human hair extensions are low maintenance, you can use them to create many different styles, and they look entirely natural. These extensions instantly add volume, thickness, and length to your hair. And, with a little bit of care, you can wear them comfortably throughout your vacation.

Be sure, however, to buy a set of high-quality human hair extensions like Zala clip-in hair extensions . These extensions are silky and smooth, last longer, and blend perfectly with natural hair.

4 Easy and Low Maintenance Travel Hairstyles

You want simple travel-friendly hairstyles that require little to no restyling or maintenance during your excursion. Simple hairstyles also don’t require you to pack too many products and styling tools.

Here’re some beautiful but easy hairstyles for your next trip.

1. Fishtail Braid

Braids are among the most popular travel hairstyles as they cause less hair breakage than styles like ponytails. A fishtail braid is simple to achieve but gives you a sophisticated look.

Follow these steps to create the fishtail braid:

  • Start off by dividing your hair into two equal portions.
  • Grab a small section from the outer area of the left portion, swaddle it over the tip of the left part, and then insert it under the right portion.
  • Repeat step 2 on the next side, taking a small section from the right side and tugging it under the left section.
  • Continue this process, alternating between the right and left segments until the braiding is complete.
  • Finally, use a hair tie to hold your hairstyle in place, and you’re good to go!

scrunchies.

2. Messy Bun With a Headband

The messy bun is our favorite travel hairstyle because you can achieve it within 10 to 15 seconds. Perfect for airplane travel! On top of that, it adds a dash of style to your overall look and hides any oily roots.

Here’s how you can get this hairstyle:

  • Make your hair into a ponytail and then form it into a bun of your choice, beginning from the base.
  • Put a hair tie around the bun while leaving out some loose strands.
  • Take your preferred headband and cloak it around the bun.

This hairstyle also works best with clip-in hair extensions in case your hair lacks length and volume.

3. Half-Up Top Knot

Yet another quick hairstyle, the half-up top knot is your best travel companion. It works perfectly even if your hair has greasy roots. In fact, it makes you look your very best even with a little bit of dirty hair.

Here’s how to get this hairstyle: Apply a tiny portion of dry shampoo (powder version) to the roots of your hair. Then, take the top half section of your hair and form it into a messy top knot.

Hurray, you’ve achieved the half-up top knot! That was quick, wasn’t it?

low braid.

4. Low Side Braid

Whether you’re traveling in a car or an airplane, you don’t want your hair to rub against the headrest because it can be pretty damaging and uncomfortable. With a low side braid, you can rest assured this won’t happen.

This travel hairstyle is the easiest of all; just tug your hair to the side and create a braided hairstyle. Now use a hair tie to hold it in place, and you’re done! For the strands above your collarbone, it is a good idea to use a bobby pin to keep them in place.

5 Travel-Proof Hairstyles for Long Flights

Whether you’re traveling by plane, taxi, or car, chances are the back of your head will rub against the seating, destroying your attempts for stylish locks. The strategy: Aim for styles with secure hold. For instance, curl your hair into loose waves, and then secure smaller sections towards the middle of the back of your head using stackable barrettes. Gather the rest of the hair into a ponytail. Your tresses will stay sleek right through to the end of your journey—plus, this ‘do can work with any occasion of dress upon your arrival.

5 TravelProof Hairstyles for Long Flights

A great solution for early morning travel, this triple topsy tail pony (inspired by the Topsy Tail and it's early-'90s heyday) allows you to twist away the bed head. A good solution for mid- to long-length hair, this option also stays secure all day.

For any length hair, using the right products can be the only necessary step to keeping your hair styled and in place for hours on end. Maintain an effortless, wavy look with a little teasing and a volumizing gel or cream to add texture. Going this route allows a little give and take through a long day of travel—giving you time to focus on more important tasks, like keeping an eye on your passport.

Draw your style all the way around the head with a half-side French-braided crown. Particularly suited for warm-weather travelers who want to keep cool, braids hold up well for a long day on the go, especially when spritzed with a maximum-hold hairspray to keep hair woes at a minimum.

Take the side braid a step further and weave it into a messy ponytail (achieved with a little teasing, wave curls, and texturizing spray), then secure with bobby pins to make sure it doesn’t slip. This option can work for both casual and dressy business attire. Need it formal? Wrap up the pony into a bun once you have reached your destination, without having to re-do any braiding.

6 Things To Pack for Low-Maintenance Travel Hairstyles

summer hairstyles, travel hairstyles

Vacation should be about kicking back, relaxing, and taking pictures for the ‘gram. At no point during your trip should you spend more than a few minutes a day caring for your vacation hairstyle .

Whether you’re going away for a week or a weekend, you’re going to want to bring the following essentials for those low-maintenance travel hairstyles that keep your hair looking cute.

travel hairstyles, travel hair, hair products

Pack These Things for Your Travel Hairstyles

1. leave-in conditioner.

If you’re going to an environment that has an unpredictable climate, your hair may need a lot more moisture than usual. Throw a travel-sized leave-in conditioner into your carry-on.

You don’t need a lot, but it’s nice to have on hand to give your hair a bit of definition when styling your travel hairstyles.

Now, it’s important to note here that most airlines have a liquid limit for your carry-on where products should not exceed 100ml. And nothing is worse than TSA throwing away a brand-new bottle of a product you bought just for your trip.

small refillable bottles

So get yourself some travel-sized products. They’re super cute and easy to travel with. But be sure to check with the most up-to-date TSA regulations on travel-sized items .

But if you’re ballin’ on a budget and you already have bulk-sized products at home, rather get small refillable containers , like these cute ones above from our affiliate partner, Amazon, in which to decant the vacation products that you’ll travel with.

Just remember, some airports will limit the amount of clear bags you can have with travel-sized liquids and gels.

2. Dry Shampoo, Shampoo, & Conditioner

If you’re going to the tropics where it is hot and humid, then you’ll need to pack a certain category of products to keep your travel hairstyles tame. This includes multiple cleansers that you can use to wash your hair.

You can bring traditional shampoo to cleanse out any sand, dirt, and oils that accumulate in your hair, as well as a dry shampoo for in-between days when you don’t have the time to mess with fresh styling.

Of course, you’ll want your conditioner as well. When it comes to conditioners, consider packing a multi-purpose conditioner .

This is a conditioner that can serve as a traditional conditioner, deep conditioner, and even a leave-in when need be. That way, you won’t have to bring as many products and you’ll be confident knowing that the product works.

And if you’re really feeling saucy, try your travel conditioners with your travel hairstyles before your trip!

I cannot stress enough the importance of packing these products, especially if you’re going to go in and out of the water. On days when you don’t need a deep cleanse, you can just do a co-wash and use the leave-in conditioner.

Apart from the above-mentioned items, you’ll also need a hair mask treatment, preferably one that is fast-acting to replenish your hair after cleansing it.

Of course, your travel hairstyles wouldn’t be complete without a hair serum for frizzy hair .

travel hairstyles, travel hair, hair products

3. Hair Oils & Serums

Whatever you do, make sure to bring some type of hair oil or serum in a small container. Hair oil is one of the most versatile hair products that you’ll use on your travel hairstyles.

You can apply it to add instant shine to your hair or smooth your edges, and a little bit gets the job done so you don’t need to bring a lot.

travel hairstyles, travel hair, hair tools

4. Hair Tools

Unless you’re braiding or rocking cute hair buns, your travel hairstyles aren’t going to get very far without the proper tools. Even still, you’re going to need your combs and brushes.

Bring the trusty hair tools you use to enhance your styles, such as a detangling hair brush and a styling brush. You’ll find that the fastest way to get defined curls on vacation is by brushing through your hair with a detangling brush.

Your travel hairstyles won’t stand a chance without them!

Make sure to add a hair comb to your bag, especially one with a metal tip, and even an itch brush can really come in handy on vacation if you have natural hair.

And bring a few clips as well to help separate your tresses and tame your hair when styling. Clips and bobby pins make it easy to achieve a wide array of cute travel hairstyles.

Also, you can’t forget a good headband and a bobby pin, which is essential to getting your hair to stay the way you want it to when styling it.

You’ll need a mirror as well to check your hair after styling to make sure that it looks good. Don’t forget your hair protectors, such as a bonnet or a head scarf.

This is essential to protect your hair especially when you’re on vacation because you never know what kind of pillowcases they have.

Of course, lest we not forget the trusty hair straightener, curling iron, and hairdryer. Now some hotels have hair dryers, but you can really save time on those low-maintenance travel hairstyles if you get a hair-drying brush.

travel hairstyles, travel hair, hairstyling tools

5. Styling Products

A styling gel is one of those products you’ll need to pack if you have curly natural hair. It might also be a good idea to pack some type of foam to give your hair a hold depending on its porosity.

You’ll then finish the look and seal everything in with a spritz. Remember to keep all of your hair products and bottles in a separate bag and then put that bag in your carry-on for stress-free, easy access.

This will make your traveling experience a little easier.

Last but not least, remember to bring hair ties or scrunchies as they’re crucial when you don’t want your hair in your face and it’s so much easier to put your hair in a bun when you’re traveling.

Don’t forget large hair bands or scrunchies can create high puffs. Scrunchies are cute and won’t damage your hair.

And pack more than one because some hair bands break easily so you want to have a backup supply just in case.

You can also bring a bonnet to keep your hair in place while sleeping. Or you might like to have a satin scarf to tie your hair up or to block the sun from reaching the top of your hair.

It can really come in handy when it comes to keeping your travel hairstyles from getting dried out by the sun.

You’ll need a hat for the curls and wear a silk scarf underneath to protect your hair and prevent excessive indentation. Whether it’s made from silk or satin, a soft scarf will go a long way in helping to keep your curls protected under the hat.

Last but not least, bring your own satin pillowcase because when you sleep on a satin pillowcase, your hair won’t get frizzy.

Things to Consider When Packing for Vacation

There are a few questions you need to ask yourself when planning for a vacation, such as identifying where you’re going.

Is it humid or cold?

Also, what are you going to do on your trip?

Are you going to go swimming? Are you going to go hiking, walk around, or just sightseeing? How long is the trip going to be? A few days? A week or so?

Answering these questions will help you determine the types of products you need to bring on your trip to achieve the travel hairstyles that you want. It will also help determine whether you should bring full-sized or travel-sized products.

For instance, if you’re going to be gone for more than two weeks then chances are, you’re going to need deep conditioner. If you’re going someplace humid, you’ll need a good gel to tame the frizz.

By the way, go for a water-based formula that’s designed to hold the curls in place.

The key to making sure you don’t forget anything for your travel hairstyles is to write it all down. Write down the activities you’re going to partake in and what you need to do with your hair during those activities.

Of course, you don’t have to write down every little thing you’re going to do and every product you’ll need for every moment of each day, but you can get a good idea of exactly what you need for all your travel hairstyles if you plan ahead.

Remember TSA rules, plan ahead, and write things down. If you do these things and consider the items above, your travel hairstyles will be glorious.

  • Step 3 / Twist the band over your dominant hand and then use the other hand to spread the hair around the ponytail base.
  • Step 4 / Wrap the hair band twice more over this base. You can wrap it more or less depending on the thickness of your hair.

Half Up Bun Instructions:

  • Step 1 / Start by gathering a section of hair at the top of the head.
  • Step 2 / Twist the section together and wrap it clock-wise into spiral then pull the end through the middle and continue wrapping the ends around the bun.
  • Step 3 / Wrap a clear elastic band around the bun and then pin down any edges so it’s flush with the head.

Topsy Tail Side Braid Instructions:

  • Step 1 / For this style, bring all of the hair over one shoulder and tie it together with an elastic band.
  • Step 2 / Now tie a second elastic band about 3 inches down from the first elastic.
  • Step 3 / Create a gap in the hair between the elastic bands and flip the ends through the gap to create a twist.
  • Step 4 / Then you can pull on the edges to make the twists a little bit bigger so they’re easier to see.
  • Step 5 / Next tie a third elastic band another 3 inches down and then create a gap above the band and clip the ends through the gap.
  • Step 6 / Then pull on the edges of the twists to make them a little bigger.

I love this style with a baseball cap as well and it only takes a few minutes to do.

Side Braid Instructions:

  • Step 1 / For this style start by bringing all of the hair over the left shoulder.
  • Step 2 / Then divide the hair into three smaller sections and cross the side strands under the middle strand.
  • Step 3 / Continue the braid down the section and then once the braid reaches the bottom you can go back over it, pulling on the edges to make the braid wider.
  • Step 4 / Tie off the end with an elastic band.
  • Step 5 / Then take a small piece of hair and wrap it around the elastic band and tie a second elastic over the bottom of the wrapped piece making sure to include the ends and this will hold the wrapped piece in place.

Two Fishtail Braids Instructions:

  • Step 1 / Begin by dividing the hair into two equal halves, a left and right side.
  • Step 2 / Take one side and divide it into three sections.
  • Step 3 / Begin a regular braid crossing the side strands over the middle strand.
  • Step 4 / Then combine two sections together and braid the rest of the section into a fishtail braid.
  • Step 5 / Half way down the hair go back over the braid, pulling on the edges to make the braid fuller.
  • Step 6 / Then just continue the braid down to the ends, pull on the edges to make the braid bigger, and tie it off with an elastic band.
  • Step 7 / Then repeat the same steps braiding the other half into a second fishtail braid.

Two Dutch Braids Instructions:

  • Step 1 / Start by dividing the hair into two equal halves and tie off one side.
  • Step 2 / Then simply braid each half into a dutch braid. As a reminder, when creating a dutch braid, the side strands are crossed under the middle strand and small sections of hair are brought into the braid as you work your way from the forehead down to the nape of the neck.
  • Step 3 / Once all of the hair is brought into the braid continue braiding the section down to the ends.
  • Step 4 / Tie off the bottom of the braid with a little clear elastic band.
  • Step 5 / Then repeat the same steps with the hair on the opposite side.

Tip: You can go back over both braids, pulling on the sides to make them fuller or leave them tight against the head, it just depends on your own personal style.

Half Up Fishtail Braid Instructions:

  • Step 1 / First, divide off a section of hair on both sides of the head right above the ears and tie it together at the back of the head.
  • Step 2 / Then with this tied off section, create a fishtail braid by splitting it into two sections and crossing small pieces of hair from one half over to the opposite side.
  • Step 3 / Continue the braid as far down the section as you prefer and I like to pull on the sides of the braid as I go to make it fuller and more casual and then just tie off the end of the braid with a clear baby elastic.

Low Bun Instructions:

  • Step 1 / For this style, start by  combining all of the hair together at the nape of the neck.
  • Step 2 / Take a hair band and wrap it over the hair only pulling the ponytail half way through.
  • Step 3 / Then twist the left hand which will twist the hair and the hair band at the same time and then grip the base of the ponytail with the left hand.
  • Step 4 / With the right hand, pull the hair band over the hair. This will create the base of the messy bun.
  • Step 5 / Then take any hair left sticking out and tuck it back into the hair band.

good travel hairstyles

Dutch Braid Instructions:

  • Step 1 / Begin by gathering a section of hair at the top of the head and split it into three sections.
  • Step 2 / Cross the side strands under the middle strand while bringing in new sections of hair and working down the back of the head until the braids reaches the nape of the neck.
  • Step 3 / Then continue the braid down the section of hair without bringing in any new hair.
  • Step 4 / Then tie off the end of the braid with a clear elastic band.

Bonus Sleep Bun Instructions:

This next style really isn’t a wearable hairstyle but it;s great if you got a blow out or curled your hair before the trip and want to take a nap without getting any kinks in your hair.

  • Step 1 / Simply combine all of your hair together at the top of your head.
  • Step 2 / Twist it together and wrap it into a spiral or bun on the top of your head.
  • Step 3 / Then secure the ends with a claw clip.
  • Step 4 / Once you’ve arrived at your destination simply let down your hair and it’s still maintained a bit of the curl or volume you had put into it before the trip.

I love all of these!

Unfortunately I just resort to possibly the world’s messiest bun and just leave it on my head like a very sad, but colourful potato.

I really want to try out some of these though :).

Spanish Getaway: 3 Insta-Worthy Travel Hairstyles

When you're on vacation, especially in beautiful Barcelona, you want to spend at little time as possible on your hair, and as much time as possible exploring the breathtaking sights, soaking up the culture, or indulging in the local cuisine. It goes without saying that you also want your hair to be on its A-game for the Instagram photos you capture while enjoying all of the above.

Situated on Costa Brava, Barcelona is full of life, with a thriving culture of art, world-class restaurants, and of course, breathtaking beaches that stretch all the way to the French border.

Our beautiful friend Josie was recently lucky enough to go on her own getaway to Barcelona, and shares her top three hairstyles that not only do the scenery justice, but take only a few minutes, so you can spend less time curling, and more time twirling under the Spanish sun.

View Josie's travel diary and hair tutorials below—she's added her 220g Dirty Blonde Luxy Hair extensions for added length and volume to these looks.

Hairstyle 1: Voluminous hair with loose curls

Easy travel hairstyles

You can never go wrong with classic curls, elevated with Luxy  Hair extensions for beautiful volume. This hairstyle is perfect for those days spent strolling Las Ramblas street, watching street performers and immersing yourself the human heartbeat of this magnificent city.

Easy travel hairstyles

Start off by clipping in your Luxy Hair extensions, which are what's going to take this hairstyle to the next level. Since Josie has thicker hair, she stacks her wefts on top of each other to create more volume at the bottom, but feel free to disperse the wefts around your head as you see fit.

Easy travel hairstyles

With a 1" to 1 1/2" curling wand, start curling your hair with the extensions. To ensure that your hair blends seamlessly with the extensions, incorporate some of your natural hair in with the Luxies, curling them together. Leave about 2 inches off the end so that the curl has a more beachy vibe, keeping the hair wrapped around the curling wand for about 5 seconds (more if you have thicker or coarse hair).

Easy travel hairstyles

Before setting your hair free, hold the curl in your hand and let it cool down. This will help the curl set and make it more bouncy, ensuring that it holds during your days exploring.

Easy travel hairstyles

Continue this process until all your hair is curled. Then, once all the curls have cooled down, rake your fingers through your hair, loosening up and breaking up the curls.

Give your hair a quick, gentle brush, add a spritz of hairspray, and you're good to go!

Easy travel hairstyles

Hairstyle 2: twisted ponytail

Easy travel hairstyles

A twist on the humble ponytail (pun intended), this travel hairstyle is perfect for a romantic barefoot stroll on  Barceloneta  Beach with the warm, salty air.

If you're wearing Luxies for this hairstyle (which we recommend you should!), take out any wefts toward the front of your head.

Pull out a few bang pieces that will frame your face once you've finished the hairstyle. Then, take a 1 1/2 inch section of hair and begin creating a French twist.

Easy travel hairstyles

Split the section into two then twist the hair twice. Continue twisting the strand, adding a bit of hair to the bottom half everytime you twist.

Once you've reached your ear, finish off by twisting the strand normally until the bottom. Either tie off the end with a hair tie or with a clip, to keep the twists secure.

Repeat steps 2 – 4, then pancake the twists, pulling at them slightly to create more volume and romance. Once you have both twists complete, clip them together at the front of your face while you work on the ponytail. (Yes, you will look like you have a twisted beard for a second, but it's all part of the fun!)

Easy travel hairstyles

Gather the rest of your hair into a ponytail, then carefully add each twist into the ponytail and tie the whole thing off.

Since you're on vacation, you can spice this style up with a headscarf or even some flowers to go along with the local culture's vibe. Bellisima!

Summer Hairstyles With Headscarves

Hairstyle 3: voluminous double side braid .

Easy travel hairstyles

While Barcelona is filled with shopping and good eats, it is also home to Mt. Tibidabo, featured in one of our favorite films, Vicky Christina Barcelona. With your hair out of your face and ready for a hike, bask in the views from the top of this mountain and be sure to visit the Temple of the Sacred Heart while you're there.

Create a deep side part, then start Dutch braiding your hair, slowly working in the hair from the other side of your head as your braid.

Easy travel hairstyles

Once you reach the nape of your neck and all loose pieces have been incorporated into the braid, you're going to Fishtail braid the rest of the hair. Instead of crossing each strand over, however, cross the strand under , to continue the pattern of the Dutch braid for a seamless transition.

Tie off the ends, pancake the braid, and enjoy your day out in beautiful Barcelona!

Whether you're visiting Barcelona or someplace else, we hope we've inspired you with these travel hairstyles. Be sure to share your travel stories with us and your hairstyle recreations by tagging #luxyhair on Instagram. Happy travels!

Favourite Travel Hairstyles & Hair Updates

By oneika raymond.

In case you’re new here, I chopped my hair off at the end of January . The cut was cute, extremely short, and made me ressemble a younger, boyish version of myself. The kinky-curly pixie highlighted my cheekbones and revealed the delicate curve of an almost too long neck. Best of all, though, the hairstyle was damned EASY.  Washing was a breeze; a lack of length meant detangling was non-existent.  There was no indecision as to how to wear my hair; barely an inch long, there was no option but to just let it be . It was the perfect travel hairstyle- no fuss, no muss, no weighing down my bags with annoying hair products/instruments… And then it started to grow back.

A bit of a hair update:

This is what my hair looked like before the chop (I had 2-year old dreadlocks)….

This is what happened when I got a little scissor-happy and snipped my locks off…

And this is what my hair looked like after I went to a barber and got him to even out my hack job.

I decided to grow it out.  I was thrilled when I was able to sport a mini afro in April.  Here’s a comparison shot of my hair on Day 1 of my cut vs Day 90-ish:

Cute, right? But, as I discovered, with more  hair, comes more responsibility .

With my dreadlocks, I could just wash and go .  No drama necessary.  With my loose hair, however, I started to worry about tangles and my follicles lacking moisture. My hair is super super tightly curled and therefore shrinks up, which is a pain. When I let my hair “just be” it started to look “just crazy”.  Dislike.

How did this cramp my travel style?  Well, on my recent trip to Peru , I had to bring a comb, brush, special conditioner, and a bottle of hair moisturizer.  No bueno for me… Because, epiphany: I hate doing my hair. Especially when I travel. Because, w hen I travel, the last thing I want to worry about is my hairdo. Simplicity is key for me and I hate to overpack (it stresses me out a fair bit), so  having to bring along a bunch of tools to tame my hair was not. good. at. all.

For the record, after the first day or two, I ended up wearing hats the rest of my Peru trip.

The best travel hairstyles for me are ones that require little-to-no maintenance or products.  For brown girls like me with kinky coils , this equates to cornrows, dreadlocks, and braided hair extensions , all of which I’ve worn at some point in my travels.

At the beginning of May I put in some braided hair extensions, just in time for my trip to Nice and Monaco . I loved them.

But inevitably, I started getting bored of my ‘do. Last week I took them out was surprised at how much my hair has grown.  I blow-dried my hair a bit so as to stretch out my afro and was able to rock a little puff:

As much as I like it, though, it’s too much work for me!  I’m travelling a lot over the next two months and can’t bear to fight with my hair whilst on the road (simplicity, remember)? I definitely will not be bringing a blow dryer with me! So I’ll be putting my hair back into extensions this weekend.

How do you wear your hair when you travel? Are you a low-maintenance girl or do you bring your special conditioners, hair straighteners, and curlers when you’re on the road?

SHARING IS CARING

I have been wearing my kinky coily hair completely natural since 1999. I had locs for 6 of those years. I cut my waist length locs in 2008, or was it 2009? Well, anyway, I wear my hair mostly in a wash and go Afro. I do not find caring for my natural hair difficult at all. I use an Ayurveda shampoo that I get from a local Indian/Pakistani grocery store. I don’t use conditioner on my hair during the washing process. I found that it is not necessary. After washing my hair I put in a leave in conditioner that I whip up myself. I whip shea butter, mango butter and add a few drops of jojoba oil, olive oil and a teeny bit of water into the mixture. I whip up enough to last at least a couple of months. After whipping it goes into several jars, so when I travel all I need is the shampoo and some of my leave in conditioner mixture. I do bring a pick and a comb in case I need it. Detangling is easy while my hair is still wet after washing and I don’t make a huge production of it. I don’t like fussing with my either but I do like it to look nice. It can be done without fanfare. I rarely blow dry my hair. I flat iron about once year. If I want to stretch my hair I just two strand twist it while my hair is half way dry and use caster oil on it instead of my whipped butter mixture. I don’t twist it in small sections; they are about medium sized and I do it while looking at You Tube videos or streaming a movie on my laptop so it makes the two strand twisting not a chore. I have long ago shed any insecurities about hair length. When I stretch my hair it is because I want a certain style and need to have longer hair for it. Otherwise I am happy to let my coils curl up and sport a shorter style.

I also LOVE decorative scarves. I wear them on my head when my hair is not looking its best. Decorative scarves in beautiful colors look fabulous as head-wraps when you have dark skin. So when traveling I pack a few of them which hardly takes up any room in my luggage. I also take long some hair pins and ponytail holder.

This is a great subject Oneika. I love your Afro puff too. It is very becoming on you.

The problem with my afro is that it gets really dry and breaks off easily, which is why protective styles are really the best for me! I wear tons of scarves but never on my head- I should start!

Er…um…don’t mind that picture of a man on my profile. I am a woman….LOL I just have a huge crush of British actor Richard Armitage so his photo is my avatar for now….LOL

You look great with short hair – I’m envious. My hair is thin and can look stringy and not nice. Short hair on me takes so much work that it’s just not worth it. My hair is long (very long 2 days ago until I had it cleaned up) and I love that I can wash and do it on Day 1, the style sticks around for Day 2, Day 3 with a little dry shampoo and perhaps a simple updo and a wash on Day 4. Easy & quick.

Thank you! Believe it or not, I also have very fine hair, but the fact that it is kinky makes it look way thicker than it actually is! When I used to straighten it I was appalled at how thin and stringy it was.

mini braids (my hair), two strand twists and twist outs. I just take what I need and pamper it as usual.

I love your hair!

Wash and go afro puff tied with a simple black shoelace/string. I can tie it up at night that way and add water, maybe some leave in conditioner and top it off with some olive oil on the ends then massage my scalp with a little more oil to fluff it up. Takes about 5 to 10 minutes depending how much I procrastinate. Nice to see that you are doing well. Changed my phone by the way so new number.

I remember your puff. You are rocking it!

For my last trip I had my hair done in two strand twists without extensions. My stylist used the blowdryer to stretch my hair first and then twist. It was perfect because my hair had length, I could pull it back into a ponytail, pin it up for updos or wear in down. Very versatile, didn’t need many products and the style lasted the 3 weeks. Another upside was I could still get it wet. Just keep in mind that it will shrink after washing but my hair was still neat.

When I had longer, loose natural hair in 2005 I used to rock that style too and loved it!

I am two years into my natural hair, and at first I used to get so bothered that my hair would not behave so I combed and brushed it into “obedience”, needless to say, I still never liked it, even after all the fuss. It didn’t help that I had just gotten into graduate school at the time and wanted to look more put together than I used to in my college days. But now, I’m very comfortable with my hair ^..^. Feels great! When I traveled for three weeks just last month, I had a fairly longish afro (grazing my shoulders and upper back, so it cant really be called an afro anymore), and few days later, put it into braids, cos I didn’t want to worry about my hair while I was exploring. And now I’m back in the US, I have a huge exam coming up, so back in the braids it goes. It’s not just the easiness of the braid that makes it work so well for me, it’s also a protective style. Oh, and I do wash my braids and longest I’ve kept one is about 3 weeks and a half. Can’t bear it after 3 weeks.

BTW, all the hairstyles post on this post suit you well.

Thanks! I’m a firm believer in letting your hair do its own thing!

I like the braids! Do you put them in and take them out yourself? Does it take a long time?

I totally hear you about not wanting to be bothered with your hair when you travel. My hair was up in a bun every day we were in Thailand because it was so hot out, and my hair was too long to style properly (hair dryer, straightener etc.). I rocked bandanas too which are a great way to keep hair out of your face and protect your scalp from burning!

You look great no matter what style your hair is!

It takes a loooong time, at least 4 hours!!! Someone else does it for me- thank goodness because I would never have the patience to do it myself!

Your puff is super cute! But I don’t blame you for wanting easy – I usually just wear my hair up or know I’m going to have to spend some time blow drying it curly on short trips. Only on longer trips or when I’m traveling for a special occasion can I justify the space, weight and hassle of the hair straightener.

Is your hair curly?! I had no idea! It’s always so neat and sleek!

I agree with you Oneika, I can’t stand to bring all the hair products and fo’s with me whenever I travel, I usually fix my hair in a protective style with low maintenance as possible. You look fabulous with your hair very short, many woman cannot pull that look off. As always I love your blogs and pictures of your travels, I’m so jealous of you when it comes to traveling. Happy Travels!!!!

Thanks Kimi!! Protective styles are key!

I’ve been natural all my life, and it’s pretty long now, so it can be a hassle to style and maintain while traveling for long periods of time. Normally, I’ll just throw on a wig or put it in braids depending on the weather where I’m going. I think that low maintenance and cute is key, which your hair definitely is, Oneika. 🙂

Thanks Angel! I once bought a wig from a shop in Detroit, but never wore it. A shame, because it was so cute and would be so convenient for travelling. I’m not even sure where it is now!

Is your hair long enough for fro puffs? (you know double puff? – my sister in law insists if she had my hair that’s how she’d wear it every day!).

I’m super low maintenance about my hair when I travel or when I don’t…

Currently I feel my hair is getting too long – but although it’s a giant cliche I kind of wanted it to grow out for the wedding…le sigh. Decisions.

It’s long enough for mini-puffs lol! I love the look of an elegant updo for a wedding… BUT if you growing your hair out is a pain, don’t do it!

I went from long hair to really short before my travels and have not regretted it because it’s so easy to look after. You have a faceshape that seems to suit all styles, you’re lucky 🙂

Thanks Alison! Strangely enough, even though my hair is still really short, it’s only really easy to take care of when it’s super, duper short or really really long!!

I am thinking of chopping off my hair too, well I do not like nice hair like you but I sure am tired of wasting so much money and time on it.

Chop it!! I’m sure it’ll look great!

What is this ‘stretching’ of the hair? I’ve not heard of that. and… will I see your puff this weekend? ?!

Unfortunately you didn’t get to see the puff!! The stretching is just using a blow drying to flatten out the kinks 🙂

Loving the short cut! I am going to admit that I take my hair straightener on every trip, sometimes I don’t use it, but I like the comfort of knowing that I can.

Variety is the spice of life!! 😉 Thanks!

Ugh, I totally understand. Honestly, hair is so annoying. I personally can’t handle it. Right now I have extensions and want to take them out. I am thinking of going super short like how you had. I used to weat my hair like htat all the time and am thinkinig of going back for the ease of it. I am off to Boston next months so I thinking of just doing it before then.

You should do it!

Girl, you’ve seen me. My hair is the BANE of my existence! In trips and in daily life, PONYTAIL all the way for me! x

Braids for backpacking, definitely less ‘tools’ and work!

You and your hair looks great however you choose to wear it!!

I am a natural curly too. I recently cut my hair short (can’t-do-a-ponytail short). I am loving it. I have been doing “wash and go” styling. Although I am not traveling at your rate of intensity (LOL), if I were I would continue with the wash and go (my hair is diggin’ it). I carry travel size shampoo, conditioner and a pomade/hair milk. No combs/brushes – I fingercomb. I, also, travel with a hair bonnet and a few bobby pins and a few headbands. Easy peasy.

Merci! I wish I could only fingercomb but if it’s loose (un-twisted or un-locked) it’s treacherous for my hair!

Haha 🙂 I don’t have problems with hair. never! 😉

Oneika, I dealt with the same drama the ENTIRETY of my travels of Europe in ’09. I wasn’t ready to rock it natural so I hauled 5 lbs worth of flat iron, moisturizer, and hair manipulators everywhere I went! Now that I have senegalese twists, life is easy, breezy and hair is stressless! If I go on travel sprees again I can’t see me not having the twists!

I just got some twists put in yesterday!! I love the ease and beauty of the style!

Wow! I didn’t even realise those braids weren’t your real hair! They look fab. All your hair dos look great though. I just keep mine plain and simple for travel. Some people think that because it’s so long it’s difficult to look after, but I think long is the easiest style for me. I just wash and go, and if it gets in my way, I tie it up. Easy peasy! 🙂

Hee hee, they blend in well with my real hair I think! You have beautiful hair and it’s a beautiful colour. You are lucky!

I love your hair right now but I hear ya, doing hair on the road is not fun at all.

I swear that my hair is the hardest part of travel. I have 5 year old locks, but a dry scalp so I travel with shampoo, conditioner, and whatever hair product that’s the flavor of the month. I’m moving to Spain in September and I’m trying to figure out how I’m going to get all my various oils and conditioners there without it costing me a fortune. Le sigh, I would chop it, except, I never would, lol

I wear individual tree braids when I travel. In a bun, it looks like small individual braids but when I wear it down and use a big curling iron, the braids blends with the hair that is pulled out from each braid so I have the benefit of all my hair being braids but the flexibility to wear curls/wavy hair dos.

I’m a natural too and from your pics, it seems like our hair textures are similar…what the “natural community” likes to describe as 4b hair (see my pic in the link). I don’t travel even a quarter as much as you do (working on that!) but when I do, I don’t deviate from my normal hair routine which is simple, easy and super low-maintenance. I wear a wash and go ‘fro styled in multiple ways nearly all the time (frohawk, puff, straight up ‘fro) so when I travel, all I pack is a bit of shampoo, a rinse-out conditioner, my leave-in conditioner and a “washing” conditioner. I put a bit of each into 3oz travel bottles so it’s not a pain to carry. I can send you pics of the results if you like but it looks cute and works for lazy…,ahem, busy people like me! And my hair is still healthy and growing so I’m fine with it.

BTW, I love, love, love your blog and am super envious of all your traveling adventures! 🙂

Glad you are enjoying the blog! I try to do afros but find that my 4B hair dries out super quickly and then detangling is a time-consuming nightmare! What products do you use?

Oh, forgot to say that you looked gorgeous with your ‘locs and look even more so with your ‘fro. But then, you’re one of those annoying women who look great with any hairstyle. 🙂

Aww thank you!!

I am extremely low maintenance. I either do twist extensions, or two strand twists on my natural hair. The twa suits you!

Love your transition look. I’ve been kind of contemplating on what to do with my hair as I am planning to go on a cruise trip. I doubt that I can pull off my natural look every single day. So I’m hoping a twist might just do.

I love love your blog…you are my traveling inspiration girl!!!

Twists and box braids are extremely versatile- I’m going to do then when my hair gets longer. Thanks!

Let’s see. I think during my travels i haven’t done any particular protective style. i just bring a good conditioner and some type of styling creme. I do the usual regime. I have learned that a few things will help you along the way. Deep conditioning before and after your trip. Tightly coiled hair is the most versatile, but is very delicate and can easily break. I have a hair steamer at home and when i returned from Iceland or even south africa i needed that bad boy because the water and the climate. Even when you are wearing a protective style be sure to cover your hair at night with a satin/silk bonnet or sleep on a satin/silk pillowcase. If u like hats try to find one that is lined with silk/satin. Tighty coiled hair can easily snag and break or shead where its rubbing up against cotton, wool or polyester, which most hats and sheets are made out of. With ur current hair length, i would stick with the braided extensions and perhaps try playing your natural texture. You would be surprised with the kind of curl you get when you really saturate your hair with the right products from root to tip and really work on defining the curl pattern. That is a style that you could wear for several days with proper night time care.

I’m so glad to have read this! I’m going to travel through Asia for 3,5 months and I was wondering what to do with my hair. I usually put in braids but I get sick of them after a month or two so it has to come out at some point, but I really don’t want to be lugging around so many products. I was a little scared to cut it short but it looks amazing on you! I might just take a deep breath and do it myself.

Every time I travel I am determined that I am going to straighten and do my hair every single day but I get over that it a few days and just leave it in its naturally wavy state. Your totally right, the last thing you want to think about while travelling is your hair.

Sometimes au natural is best!

Great post! I am in hair limbo after going shorter and shorter and debating what is easiest for travel. I have fine blonde hair, so I love the ease of tying it up when it’s longer, but it’s much easier to style shorter. Blonde highlights are another stress. I’m thinking of one more chop and blondening this month and then letting it go for the rest of summer.

I love how easy it is for girls to go on and on about their hair – we all have our challenges!!

I was just telling my friend about that.

I didn’t know that.

Wonderful views on that!

good travel hairstyles

travel hairstyles

Most people complain that their hair becomes too dry or too greasy after a long trip. It becomes worse when your hair is down the entire time making it more vulnerable to wind, grime, and your own oily fingers.

When you finally arrive at your destination, your hair is a total mess. So how do you ensure your hair stays relatively clean and nice during the entire trip?

A chic ponytail seems such an enticing idea, but it won’t cut it unless you won’t fret having such a hard knot on the back of your head for the duration of your trip. In most cases, the ideal hairstyle is one that can both keep the hair secure and out of the way during travel.

Below are the ten best hairstyles to rock before embarking on long and winding voyages:

French Braid

french braid

The French Braid is recommended for two reasons: it not only keeps every strand of hair out of the way, but you may also effortlessly undo it the moment you reach your destination. It is a simple hairdo, and you can definitely pull it off yourself without requiring an extra hand.

top knots

Top knots are a fantastic option when you want to keep your locks on lock during a long trip. Thankfully, they sit so high up on your head that you won’t easily mess them up while driving (or chilling out as a passenger).

Here’s a great tutorial for easy messy buns:

Fishtail Braid

fishtail braid

Chic. Simple. And reliable. These are the three words that define fishtail braids. It can easily be undone the moment you arrive at your destination to give way to beachy waves.

What you, or any other person, ought to do is simply to pass a section of hair from side to side and tug on it for extra volume. Voila! You have a fishtail braid for your journey.

Low Pigtails

low pigtails

You want to keep your unruly hair under control and out of the way- and you’ve tried every possible style to no fruition- well, perhaps you haven’t tried low pigtails. This simple, chic and gorgeous style helps to shackle your hair and keep it out of your way for the entire journey so you are not distracted by the breathtaking views of the countryside or scenery during your trip.

Milkmaid Braids

This style is the fusion of style and convenience- while intricate, it still doesn’t get in your way. You only need to weave two low pigtails, secure them on top of your head, and you’ll be good to go.

Double Buns

If a single knot isn’t going to confine your hair well enough, you can add another. Just pull your cute hair into high pigtails. Wrap the ends of each pigtail into a regular top knot, and use a bobby pin to secure these mini buns in place. After that, you can smile, start your car, and get lost in the adventure that is just about to unfold.

The Famous Sock Bun

This hairstyle is both elegant and simple. It is a simple and perfect solution when bad hair days and an inclement weather gang up against you.

Low, Side Ponytails

low side ponytail

Whenever you are on the road for a holiday, you need to discard that fussy do that requires lots of maintenance. Low, side ponytails are the worthy alternatives. They are perfect for long trips when you cannot blow dry or wash your hair.

Just gather the hair into a low ponytail, move it to the side of the nape, and fasten it in place. Finally, tousle the tail to achieve a casual and textured look.

A Shaved Bob Haircut

Shaved Bob Haircut

This stylish, chic, and versatile crop is arguably the best haircut you can go for when preparing to embark on a long trip. It can be incredibly messed up for a day look, is incredibly attractive, and shows off your feminine features. Now that’s incredible versatility.

An Updo Hairstyle

updo hairstyle

An updo is a hairstyle that entails arranging the hair above your head instead of letting it fall liberally. It is stylish, sophisticated, and absolutely gorgeous. It keeps hair out of the way and thus lets you concentrate on the journey.

A few more tips

While on a road trip or cruise, there are a lot of tricks you need to keep up your sleeve to avoid making your hair fussy or messy or unsightly. For example, you might want to slather your hair with moisturizers or oils before plunging into chlorinated or salt waters.

You should also shield your hair from the sun and keep brushing it often. Find a moisturizer or oil that works for you, and stick to it.

The Best Travel Hairstyles for Girls On The Road

The Best Travel Hairstyles for Girls On The Road

The Best Travel Hairstyles for Girls On The Road

#1 Loose Curls

I don’t know about you but sometimes I’m trying hard to get the perfect bun, braid, or whatever it is but it just won’t happen. It also saves me a ton of time on the road to just let my hair down. But to make it look classy and flowy, I like to add some loose curls. I either bring my hair straightener or braid my hair overnight and voilà! The great thing is this hairstyle seems to be quite weather resistant, e.g. the curls stay strong in heat, wind and near the ocean! Doesn’t Christie here just look amazing?

View this post on Instagram A post shared by CHRISTIE KANANI • ATX (@ckanani)

#2 Double Dutch

One of my absolute favorite travel hairstyles for on the go or bad hair days! The Double Dutch braid looks amazing and is not only for those blessed with Kim K-long hair (or extensions). It might take a while to get the hang of it at first, but once you got it down, you will look put together all day long – no matter how extreme the weather conditions!

#3 Low-effort Side Braid

Another one of my easy go-to hairdos for traveling is this excellent variation of a twisted side braid. There are endless options on how you can pull off this style, whether it be with a side bun, side ponytail or a princess-like side braid like Gina here. Plus, when you are at the beach and go for a swim, you will be surprised with playful beach waves after you dry up in the sun!

#4 Bear Hair

This 90s revival is one that I can really embrace (not a fan of the choker renaissance AT ALL). Whoever wears this hairdo will look a hundred times cuter as it transforms you into a fluffy little bear. It’s incredibly easy to style and keeps your hair out of your face, ready to conquer the world.

#5 Half-Up Bun

Another super trendy go-to hairstyle is the half-up bun. This is perfect for all us indecisive power women who cannot stay in one place for too long. The half-up bun is also great for any hair-length and gets the hair out of your face but leaves just enough hanging loose to take advantage of these perfect beach breeze or motorbike wind moments. I also like to do a variation of this hairstyle tying the section of hair without the bun.

BONUS: The Hat

Let’s face it – sometimes stubborn, crazy hairs go wild, even with this repertoire of easy-to-do travel hairstyles. That’s why I always bring a hat. Not only do they add a certain degree of classiness and sophistication to your outfit, they also cover up any greasy and puffy manes.Alternatively, I also like to pack some beanies for colder weather. Do it just like Hannah and get yourself a universal black head ready to be combined with almost any outfit!

https://www.instagram.com/p/BHtTe-TDyHt/?r=mg1

And if everything fails… maybe this is the perfect opportunity to go channel your inner Britney or Natalie.

Love it? Pin it and save it for later!

5 perfect travel hairstyles

My go-to style is always the pony tail. Fast, easy, and out of my face.

Also good for persons with lousy fine motor and braiding skills.

' src=

You forgot the messy bun! My daily go-to, if I’m being honest 😛

Tips for traveling with curly hair & best curly hair travel products for every curly hair type

October 23, 2017 by Karen Turner 12 Comments

As someone with crazy curly hair, I have found many of the tips for traveling with curly hair not applicable to my own hair.  I’ve asked some amazing ladies (+ one guy) with all kinds of curly hair for their tips for dealing with curly hair on vacation, the best curly hair products for them, and easy travel hairstyles for curly hair.

This includes natural hairstyles for traveling as straightening your hair 24/7 is not good for it.  I also include travel beauty tips for WOC, which is often not included in tips for curly hair. Thanks to my contributors for their fantastic tips for their recommendations for travel tips for curly hair and the best curly hair travel products.

As a traveler with curly hair, I know the struggle of find in  a good travel hairstyle for curly hair given the craziness that travel can bring: rain, humidity, water…

However, as someone with thick frizzy hair somewhere closer to 3B/3C, I can tell you that it’s tough to find curly hair travel hairstyles that are inclusive of women who don’t have straight/slightly wavy hair.  Unfortunately, straightening my hair every day is terrible for it, so I’ve struggled to find curly hair tips that work for me.

I’ve asked curly haired bloggers (who are majority WOC) with every consistency of curly hair to give their favorite easy travel hairstyle for curly hair, including vacation hairstyles for black hair, and the best travel hair products for curly hair.  (Sorry to those with straight hair, but you’re not included here.)

Type 2 Curly Hair

Type 2 Curly Hair is slightly curvy and/or wavy.  You might have an S shape close to your head. It is still prone to frizz.

My hair is an odd blend of wavy/curly. It usually “listens” when I straighten it, or curls up nicely with mousse and a diffuser. But when traveling, I do NOT have that kind of time!

good travel hairstyles

My tip is use a good styling creme /curl mousse after showering and then DON’T TOUCH THAT HAIR ! (Put your curl mousse in a travel sized container to ensure you’re safe to fly with it!)  I usually just throw stuff in it and go, and embrace the natural texture.

It can be fun to see how different climates affect my hair; I never know what I’m getting. I prefer to wash every other day and use dry shampoo on the off days. Seriously, whoever invented dry shampoo deserves a medal. This keeps my ends from getting too dry but minimizes the oil that seems to collect on the scalp hair.

If you’ll be flying, be sure to get a travel sized dry shampoo spray as a larger bottle may not be allowed on the plane. Similarly, it’s good to bring leak proof travel sized containers  to allow you to bring your high quality hair mousse with you when carrying carry-on only.

Speaking of oily hair….whenever I have an overnight or long, long flight, I totally give up on keeping my hair looking cute. It seems to get especially oily and dirty in transit. However, I hate tossing my hair up into a ponytail.

My go-to easy travel hairstyle that looks cute when I arrive: I do two braids and cross them over the crown of my head, a bit of a Heidi look. I keep them in place with bobby pins. It’s a very cute look, virtually prevents my hair from moving an inch, and best of all, goes untouched by my hands. Once I arrive at my destination, I take down my hair and enjoy the fun crimped waves that result. Voila….beautiful upon landing. 🙂

Suzannah from The Veggie Passport

Curly or straight? That all-important decision determines if I’ll be ready and out the door in 5 minutes, or 5 hours. My hair is long and thick. When I allow it dry naturally, I get nice loose curls, but I prefer my hair straight – which amounts to some serious time, effort and maintenance on the road.

This year, I was desperate to get some good shots of me and my luscious locks, looking out into the distance for Instagram, so, naturally, I had to have PERFECT straight hair, and this is what I did:

Step 1: Ultimately, you need a GOOD travel hair straightener if you want to straighten your hair. I went with the ghd Gold V Max Hair Styler , because the regular sized plates are just too damn small and time consuming for my hair.

Step 2: After applying heat defence, section your hair into manageable pieces. After each piece, spray a generous amount of Lee Stafford’s Dehumidifier spray , and then finish with any extra hold hairspray. Note: your hair might feel a little greasy at first, but I was amazed at how well it held and how well it tackled the intense humidity of Thailand and UAE.

Note from Karen: You don’t need an expensive hair straightener f or it to do the trick. I love my Remington Wet2Dry hair straightener for straightening difficult curly hair, which is only around $25. For hair straighteners, it’s good to have a converter/adapter depending on where you’re traveling as hair straighteners are prone to issues if you only have a basic adapter.

Jacob (from Wanderlustingk.com)

Man with long curly hair. Read about the best tips for dealing with curly hair while traveling and the best products for traveling with curly hair! Includes tips for traveling with all curly hair types.

Yes, my husband!  Perfect curls while traveling is also important for guys with long hair!  For those days where he’s just not feeling like having frizzy hair and is on the go, he swears by the three hairband ponytail (one at the top, one in the middle, and one towards the bottom) for keeping the frizz under control while hair dries.

He’s become a bun person after realizing how fantastic it is to keep your hair off the back of your neck while traveling in hot weather.  His must : Extra hair ties.

Jacob is a big fan of ethical products that don’t test on animals.  He’s been amazed by how much healthier his hair has become after using products with argan oil/not using an all-in-one shampoo.  (Luckily, he has a wife who recommended changing his shampoo from an all-in-one to a shampoo and conditioner.)

One additional note: if you have issues with dandruff while traveling, it’s best to bring a small travel sized dandruff shampoo as the options where you’re traveling maynot work as effectively as what you have at home, as Jacob has learned.

Jacob’s go to shampoo and conditioner for curly hair is from the Organix brand shampoo for frizzy hair with argan oil. When he’s traveling, he carries his shampoo in travel sized containers. Showering often and conditioning well is an essential for him due to how bushy his hair gets when it’s dry.

Type 3 Curly Hair

Type 3 Curly Hair includes lightly curled hair and very curly hair.  The defining feature is springy soft curls.

Olga Maria from LatinasWhoTravel.com

Managing my curls and avoiding frizz while traveling is not always easy. I’m a Latina traveler with very curly hair (small, tight curls that also get dry easily).

One of my biggest secrets is to find and get the right haircut forcurly hair before I travel, especially when traveling for a longer period with curly hair.  You don’t want to risk finding a new person abroad to cut your hair, especially if you are in countries that can’t understand or have experience with your type of hair.

I always carry a bottle of  travel sized coconut oil and I typically freeze it. I use coconut oil for shine enhancement, moisturizing my hair, styling my curly hair while traveling, detangling, frizz control and deep conditioning treatment.  Make sure that your coconut oil is TSA size compliant.

I also carry a wide tooth comb to detangle my hair and a universal diffuser , that attaches to any hairdryer, to dry my curly hair faster. If all else fails (we’ve all had bad hair days), I just pick up my hair in a quick bun. I always carry a brush, pins, some spray or gel and hair ties.

Karen from Wanderlustingk (Me!)

This might shock my readers and friends, but I have very curly, frizzy hair (closer to 3B) and dealing with my curly hair while traveling has been a struggle. I am learning to be better about my curls, but I’m getting there.

I find that not washing your hair daily makes a huge difference for my hair (which is a bit oily) and it looks best on the second or third day.  I also love dry shampoo.  It is also a lot better for the health of your curly hair as it makes good hair last a lot longer and you can just spray/go if you’re having a good hair day.

After a good hair day (with plopping [more below!], I often tie up my hair in a tight bun overnight,  brush my fingers through it (a boar’s head brush can make it too poofy), then just spray dry shampoo in it in the morning to be able to go in 5 minutes.  I’m always shocked how many people still compliment me on my bed hair. Also, hats are very helpful if you want a photo on a bad hair day.

When I lived in Singapore , which has very high humidity, I worked hard to find the right curly products to just keep the frizz down as straightening it was almost useless as my hair would explode once I got outside.

The best product for curly hair in hot weather for me has been the John Frieda Frizz Ease Beyond Smooth Frizz serum. I’ve used it on a daily basis, which gave me big curls that also looked cute. (If you are into straightening your hair, it’s good for dealing with the frizz.)

Be aware that if you’re traveling with curly hair in countries where most people don’t have curly hair, you need to bring your own curly hair products for travel.  Finding good curly hair products abroad may be difficult and expensive (and just not work for your hair).  I really struggled when I was in Singapore for this reason.

As mentioned by Olga, your haircut is important and I made the mistake of getting a hairstyle that looked better straight, not curly, so it’s good to think what your hair will be like curly when getting it cut before your vacation.  It was also a bit too short to tie up properly, which was a pain.

If you’re looking for an easy hairstyle for travel in hot climates, it’s important that it does not touch the back of your neck when down and/or you can tie it up easily.  Similarly, bangs are a terrible idea for people with poofy/frizzy hair while traveling (in my experience).  It just looked like I had a big poof ball in front of my face. ( No photos .)

Tips for dealing with curly hair in the rain…

I’m kind of an expert after living in Amsterdam for dealing with the rain after biking in the rain a lot.  It’s best to tie your hair down using a scarf with keeping it tight on your head prior to going outside to compress the frizz  and get inside ASAP.

For straightening, I swear by straightening my hair with a high quality travel straightener that gets very hot (I usually do about 400 degrees F) with only going once over my hair and giving my hair a pre-straightening treatment to prevent damage.

I swear by the Aussi 3 minute Miracle as an overnight treatment to help it heal. If you don’t have much time to let your hair straightener cool off, I recommend using a towel to gently wipe it in every few seconds.

When I travel, I try to take time in between straightening my hair whenever possible to prevent damage and when you’re having a long travel day: who cares what your hair looks like.  That said, when I’m in humid environments for days on end, I love a good bun.

My tip for easy travel hair with not much work: PLOP your hair after getting out of the shower

You don’t need to straighten your hair on vacation. I swear by a thing called plopping that you can watch in this short video (I’ve queued it up for you).   As soon as you get out of the shower, you’ll want to brush your hair, then flip your hair upside-down prior to wrapping it in a t-shirt to compress the frizz as it dries.

You might need to keep your hair inside of the t-shirt for some hours (and bear the mocking of family members cough for how silly you look, but it works like magic on my curly, frizzy hair.

I usually use an old shirt, but if you’re traveling, it might be good to carry a microfiber towel as you might not have an old shirt laying around and it’s just good to have a microfiber towel. As soon as your hair is dry (check and don’t fully unwrap the towel until it is), your hair will look curly, magical , and perfect until the humidity kicks in.

Paroma from Yrofthemonkey

View this post on Instagram A post shared by PC (@yrofthemonkey) on Jul 1, 2017 at 4:12pm PDT

I want to start off with these bold lines of “frizzy hair, don’t care” but in all honesty, I so absolutely do. I have super curly hair, and not the good kind which is lustrous and can be tossed around with that sexy careless abandon, much like what those darned models do.

I have extremely thick hair and as my curls metamorphose from tight ringlets right after a shower to loose, dry balls of frizz with every passing day, my head looks like an untended topiary where some little bird could easily lose her way.

So once the D-day of nightmarish bad hair day approaches, I put some styling product (I use Oribe hair styling shield ) to get some moisture in those dry strands, comb them up into a top knot, tie it first to a pony tail, twist it into a bun and secure that with bobby pins.

When my hair is of shorter length, I simply let it hang loose or just tie a simple pony tail near the nape of my neck to create the illusion of a low bun and pull out some curls from near the sides for a disheveled look (kind of like a glam bed head, with way more bed head and way less glam in the mix).

I also wear chunky, colorful and bright drop earrings to take the attention away from the mess that is on top of my cranium  and that trick works when all else fails.

Click for Paroma’s favorite product: Oribe hair styling shield . Be warned that it’s a bit expensive, so you might want to consider the budget alternative of ALTERNA BAMBOO Smooth Pure Kendi Oil Pure Treatment Oil .

Hey there, I’m Gabby and I’m a curly-headed traveler. I have what my fellow WOC would know as “3C” hair, meaning my hair has tight coils, and is not at all “loose” or “wavy.

My hair type is often the most temperamental, and I feel like I’m always in an endless battle with both humidity and dryness! If I use too much product, I have crispy or greasy curls, and if I use too little all definition is lost and I’m left with frizzy, massive hair.

My hair does  not  do well with directly applying oils, but thrives with mayonnaises and lotiony conditioners. I’m carry-on only, so often this means trying a ton of different products in each country because I can’t cart around my favorite conditioners in bag!

My tips is to KNOW YOUR INGREDIENTS. It took trial and error, but now I know products that are sulfate-free, contain shea butter, and avocado oil (very light), are my saving graces when on the road.  I swear by SheaMoisture coconut and hibiscus curl enhancing smoothie !

Type 4 Curly Hair

Type 4 hair ranges a lot in texture as it can be thin to course, however curls tend overall to be coily.     I’ve asked Eulanda, Annette, Briona, and Chelsea to go into their favorite natural hairstyles for traveling because  everyone  deserves to have fabulous curly hair while traveling.  Keep reading for vacation hair routines for WOC and easy travel hairstyles for curly hair.

The popular saying ‘curly hair, don’t care’ doesn’t quite do it for me. I do care. A lot . My hair was first relaxed (chemically straightened) by my grandmother at the age of twelve. I went through the next seven years trying to make my hair (and mind) conform to what I saw was attractive in the mainstream media. The idea of embracing my natural hair texture never even crossed my mind until I started university.

The best I can ascertain is that by the time I reached the age of twenty, I was pretty fed up with slathering on the burning white cream, commonly referred to as ‘creamy crack,’ every two months.

Additionally, being in a university atmosphere and taking thought provoking classes addressing the systemic racism present in the American media, was like rehab for my ‘creamy crack’ addiction.  These are the best hair products for Afro-textured hair curly hair while traveling (at least for me).

Washing:  I use Beautiful textures ‘Tangle Taming Shampoo’ & their ‘Tangle Taming Conditioner.’ I’ve tried the whole wash my hair every day, and that definitely does not work for my hair texture.  I co-wash (washing with conditioner only) and fully detangle every two weeks, and then do a full shampoo & conditioning wash with a deep condition once a month.

Deep Conditioning:  I slather Cantu’s Leave-in Conditioning Repair Cream through my hair, and separate it into four sections, which a roll, and pin into Bantu knots. I then put a shower cap over my head, and let it sit for thirty minutes. I sometimes use my blow dryer to gently blow over the cap. I condition and style as normal.

Daily upkeep: Before jumping in the shower, I spray my hair with Jane Carter Solution’s ‘quench’ hydrator. It gives my curls a moisture boost and helps to detangle it when I run my fingers through it in the shower (using steam and wet hands). Every few days, I use Cantu’s Leave-in Conditioning Repair Cream (with argan oil) to bring more definition and length to my curls. I put a dab on my fingers, and then pull it through my hair, stretching out the curls. I also alternate with the leave-in cream and swap it for Cantu’s Coconut Curling Cream

Travel essentials for afro hair textures : I take three small travel sized containers that easily fit in my carry on allowance. I fill a small spray bottle with the ‘quench’ spray, and two small containers filled with Cantu leave-in conditioning cream and Repair7 Oil Elixer. If I’m going on long haul trips, I’ll also take a travel sized container of the Beautiful Textures conditioner.

Fun stuff: I use Jane Carter Solution’s ‘Natural Twist Out Foam’ for more defined styles like twist and braid outs.

Although I feel quite confident in my current hair regimen, I’m still learning what works best in various climates around the world when I travel. For instance, when I travelled to Iceland I had no clue what to do with my hair when I got in and out of the thermal baths.

Let’s just say, I had a new introduction into the effects of cold weather on wet afro hair.  I’m grateful that I now have access to products that are created for my hair type. However, I’m more grateful for what the journey towards embracing my hair has taught me about patience, fortitude, and self-love.

Annette from FromAnnette

When I was younger I didn’t know how to manage my 4C hair, Coily Ziggly hair. The universal beauty standard tells women that long straight locks are more desirable than kinks and curls. So I remember getting my hair pressed and flat ironed as a little girl to achieve a more acceptable look.  After one bad perm, I gravitated towards natural hairstyles like braids and dreadlocks.

One of the best things about being a Black Woman is the opportunity to change up my look in a matter of minutes. From a mohawk to a fro and everything inbetween I just love switching up my look. And don’t even get me started on my wig collection!

Favorite easy hairstyle for traveling: Braids because of their flexibility.   Braids are my bestie! I braid my own hair, so that’s a major plus. I like to swim and be active while I travel so braids are my best bet for the digital nomad lifestyle I’m currently living.

Briona from YouMeTravel

View this post on Instagram A post shared by Bri • A Traveling Poet (@briyoumetravel) on Oct 7, 2017 at 12:40pm PDT

My hair type is mostly 4B with curls that have a lot of definition but it doesn’t seem like it because I prefer really big hair and usually pick it out to elongate the strands. Sometimes I do twist outs, but I’m a lazy naturally curly girl who like to spritz and go.

I got my first chemical relaxer when I was in middle school just like most of my friends had. There was no more hair barrettes after this point. Instead, I embraced the straight look.  I wore my hair relaxed until my sophomore year of college when I did the big chop. I allowed my hair to transition first, so that it wouldn’t be such a drastic change but it still was.

Suddenly I’d gone from having the shoulder length hair I’ve had most of my life to rocking a short and coily tapered haircut. I loved it and the style forced me to find new angles when I took pictures. Almost three years later, my hair has grown tremendously and I’m a lazy natural now.

My hair retains moisture well so I don’t have to use oils or butters everyday to keep it healthy.  I opt for Jane Carters Leave In Conditioner to refresh my fro’ in the morning and sleep with a satin pillow case to keep the moisture in my hair overnight. I wash once a week with SheaMoisture Raw Shea Butter Shampoo.   (When I travel, I like to use a shampoo bar from Lush ) deep condition with SheaMoisture Raw Shea Butter Deep Treatment Masque .

This is such a great post!! I love learning about all the different ways these ladies (and gents!) take care of their curls, because it’s so different for everyone. I’ve definitely got some new ideas I wanna try. Thanks for featuring my wavy locks! <3

November 17, 2017 at 6:33 pm

Love this post – have had a love-hate relationship with my curly hair my whole life! When traveling I rock the bun almost every day – or when my hair is long enough, a braid. I only wash my hair every 4-5 days or so (although I shower and get it wet every day). When the humidity is being friendly, my go-to leave-in hair product is Shea Moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl & Style Milk. It’s not heavy or greasy, but tames the frizz and holds the curls. Although nothing works in Singapore!

November 17, 2017 at 6:39 pm

I agree with your husband that extra hair ties are essential. I forgot to bring any when I did a no doors heli experience and my hair was all over the place then full of knots ;-). I take mini hair straighteners too when I remember

November 17, 2017 at 6:41 pm

Oh Karen, your post kinda reminded me that I have curly hair now after perming them, lol! I feel you about the struggle for finding hair products in Singapore – they’re not exactly cheap nor are we always sure if it’ll work as we imagined. For me now, I put a ‘stiffer’ leave-in hair conditioner so that the hair can be more ‘clustered’, and then put a styling lotion (it’s very liquid) from Lucidol (Japanese hair product brand) to make them stay longer. So far, it works alright for my hair here. Will test them when I head overseas soon, hopefully they stay!

You’ve put together such an interesting and useful post!

November 17, 2017 at 8:52 pm

The Frizz Ease series by John Frieda was the reason my hair was at it most splendid when I was in New York! I was later able to find the conditioner in Europe, but never the leave-in cream. That was my magic trick in NY. And I also believe it was the water. I wish I could get the hair I had there back, have never been able to get the same effect!

November 17, 2017 at 9:10 pm

I didn’t know you are a Latina. I am form Puerto Rico. I think we have several hair types. I usually straighten it chemically because I cannot deal with it. I went on without any treatment for two years and you can imagine the tangled mess it was after my last big trip. After that, a got the Brazilian blowout and that has helped a lot. I do not was it daily like you and I using some coconut and argan oil products since it is very dry at the moment. Thanks for the tips. Only people with curly hair understand what we have to deal with.

November 17, 2017 at 9:32 pm

I don’t have curly hair but appreciate the POV. Have you ever tried pineapple hair? Apparently that’s good for before bed. I did it for fun last night and it actually made my hair nice and wavy 😀

November 17, 2017 at 10:26 pm

I love this post! I used to relax my hair until 18 months ago. Like Eulanda, I’m still trying to figure out what type of hair products or regimen works for me. The struggle is real but now I have a few products ideas to try out! Thanks for sharing.

November 18, 2017 at 3:09 am

This is such a fabulous post Karen! Gorgeous ladies with great tips. I never knew that hair had ‘types’ but my hair is like Amy’s – wavy and prone to fizz as well as extremely thick. I straighten it a lot, use dry shampoo on occasion and tend to just throw it in a plat when I can’t be bothered dealing with it.

November 19, 2017 at 12:31 am

My hair’s straight as a board but I love this article- I have so many friends with beautiful curls and it’s something I simply never thought about!

November 19, 2017 at 6:59 am

THIS IS BRILLIANT!!!!! I think I’d say that I have type 2 hair, but maybe type 3? I usually like using Deva Curl light gel, but only brought a small bottle with me on our year-long trip so I’m not sure what I’ll do when it runs out. To ration it, I’ve been doing a lot of buns, braids and Panama hats. I’ve tried plopping before, but hadn’t thought to use one of my pack towels — on the agenda for tomorrow night for sure. When you plop your hair, do you put any product in beforehand or does your hair retain its curls without? My issue is that once I sleep on it, one side still looks great and the other side looks terrible.

While I certainly don’t feel like I’ve mastered this, I have learned some things that help me manage my 2a-3a curls. First, I can’t expect to achieve the same results as at home traveling, so managing expectations is first. I’ve started using bar a conditioner and shampoo so I can easily pack all the product on need in a carry-on. When my curls have relaxed and if I don’t want to refresh, I will some times just get my hair a tiny bit damp and roll it into a tight bun on top of my head with a scrunchy (that’s important or ends are crimpy). I’ll sleep with that overnight and end up with nice waves and loose curls sort of old Hollywood. If it isn’t falling nicely at my crown I wip it into a pretty high pony that still maintains that texture.

5 Wonderful Travel Hairstyles for Men

An article about the best travel hairstyles for men including the man bun, the Australian, the Mr. Clean, dreadlocks, and more.

During your travels, one of the biggest issues that travelers face is what to do with their hair.

And yes, getting a haircut abroad is scary (so many horror stories that will give you nightmares!) so it is understandable that many travelers want to look for a low-maintenance haircut so here’s a list of the best travel hairstyles you can get.

Please note that even though this list is gender-neutral and all hairstyles mentioned can be worn by women, this article is written from a male living experience.

Enjoy my wonder friends!

The Man Bun

For all of those who want to unleash their inner Samurai, the man bun has been a constant favorite of travelers due to its low maintenance.

It is inspired by the Samurai’s top knot (known as chonmage ) and has seen an increase in popularity thanks to hipsters making it a very stylish choice.

Just tie up your hair in a man bun and call it a day. Sure, you still need to shampoo your hair and trim it every few months but it’s one of the easiest to maintain travel hairstyles.

Famous Examples: Jon Snow from Game of Thrones.

Travel Hairstyles, the Man Bun

The Australian

A large mane, usually accompanied by a surfboard is not unusual to find in Australian travelers hence the name of these travel hairstyles.

Be warned though, this is a very high maintenance travel hairstyle that requires proper care not unlike the proper care that a long beard needs.

Only go for this if you’re willing to put in the work, players. You can check some hairstyle maintenance tips here my friends!

Famous Examples: Chris Hemsworth in Thor.

The Mr. Clean

If you’re balding, please do not try to use a comb-over like You-Know-Who or to get a hair transplant, just embrace destiny and shave it all off.

Confidence is attractive and having a shiny bald head will get you extra points. Don’t forget to apply creams in order to avoid skin rashes and to always be careful of the sunlight.

You don’t want to end up burnt now do you?

Famous Examples: Vin Diesel in The Fast and the Furious.

Felucca Sailing in the Nile River, Egypt 4

The Dreadlocks

The dreadlocks are a controversial travel hairstyle since some people consider it to be cultural appropiation.

However, it is one of the easiest to maintain since you don’t actually have to wash your hair constantly so it’s perfect if your plan is to hike for days (such as the amazing Torres del Paine in Chile ) to places without a shower.

Be warned tho, your hair might get a little bit damaged after a while.

Famous Examples: Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean.

Travel Hairstyles, the Dreadlocks

The Man of Wonders

One of the easiest haircuts to get abroad is the one I have called the “Haircut of Wonders”. It basically involves cutting the sides and back with a number 1 razor and just trimming the tips at the top.

No matter to where you travel, this is the easiest haircut to explain to the barber. It is so easy that it is impossible to get it wrong.

That being said, you need to trim it every 2 weeks so not ideal if you visit an expensive destination where they charge 50 USD for a haircut.

Famous Examples: Me Me Me.

This Florida airport had the most delays: The best, worst airports for spring break travel

good travel hairstyles

Nothing can ruin a spring break getaway faster than encountering a travel disruption at the airport.

Half of all travelers with spring break plans are “concerned” about disruptions impacting their travel plans, according to travel platform Hopper’s 2024 Spring Break Travel Outlook .

The report said last year saw a higher-than-average volume of disruptions. During spring break, 20.1% of flights were delayed, compared to 18.4% throughout 2023.

For smooth travels, aGamble analyzed flight departure data from the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics to see which airports had the most disruptions during March and April 2023 – the usual spring break period. Disruptions included delays, cancellations and diversions.

“With spring break officially kicking off, airports are expected to be crowded throughout the coming weeks, and travelers may face flight disruptions depending on their departure location,” Collin Czarnecki, a researcher for aGamble, told USA TODAY in an email.

“It might not be surprising that a majority of airports with the most flight disruptions are located in spring break destination hotspots such as Fort Lauderdale, Orlando, Las Vegas, and Miami,” Czarnecki said. On the other hand, the airports with the best on-time departures during the spring break period last year were Pittsburgh International Airport in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania,  and Portland International Airport in Portland, Oregon.

Czarnecki also added that the second and third week of March will be the busiest at security checkpoints, so be sure to arrive at the airport with ample time.

The Top Knot – A twist on an old classic.

  • STEP 1: Brush and gather your hair into a tight ponytail on the very top of your head and affix with an elastic band.
  • STEP 2: If you have it, spritz your ponytail with sea salt or styling spray, and then backcomb the ponytail with your fingers.
  • STEP 3: Separate the ponytail into two parts, one part in each hand, and then bring the two parts forward, on each side of your head.
  • STEP 4: Cross over the two parts and continue wrapping around until you reach the end of your hair.
  • STEP 5: Secure the ends into the bun with bobby pins, and add a bit of texture by breaking up the bun with your fingers.

The Springtime Tuck – A pretty vacation hairstyle that looks tricker than it actually is.

  • STEP 1: Take a colored headband and place it around the crown of your head, with your hair underneath, not over the top.
  • STEP 2: Hold the headband in place and tuck the lengths back over the top of the headband, until all the hair is tucked in, starting from the sides of your head under your ear.
  • STEP 3: Secure with bobby pins if you need, style the strands at the front and voila! Easy and feminine vacation hairstyles!

The Dutch Braid – Reverse your usual french braid for an eye-catching look.

If you’re a French Braid pro, you’ll pick this up in no time. The key is to weave the left and right strands under the middle strand rather than over .

  • STEP 1 : Take a section of hair from the crown of your head and divide into three strands.
  • STEP 2: Cross the right hand strand under the middle strand so it now becomes the middle strand.
  • STEP 3: Cross the left hand strand under the middle strand, so it now becomes the middle strand.
  • STEP 4: Gather a section of hair from the right side of your head and add to the strand which is on the right side.
  • STEP 5: Cross the right hand strand under the middle strand.
  • STEP 6: Gather a section of hair from the left side of your head and add to the strand which is on the left side.
  • STEP 7 : Cross the left hand strand under the middle strand.
  • STEP 8: Repeat until you reach the base of your scalp, and continue to plait to the end of your hair.
  • STEP 9: Tie off the end.

With these 3 quick and simple vacation hairstyles, you may even decide to leave the styling tools at home!

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour in Singapore: A look back at the highlights and lowlights

From electrifying performances to cute marriage proposals, here are some noteworthy events that happened during Taylor Swift's highly-anticipated Eras Tour – good and bad.

The Singapore leg of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour will soon reach its conclusion – her final performance is on Saturday (Mar 9). The six-night concert was undoubtedly one of the country’s – and region’s – most talked about entertainment events in recent times. So did it live up to its hype? We certainly thought so .

Still, a lot of things happened during the time of the Eras Tour and we thought we’d compile a list of some of the more exciting – and side-eye-worthy – events that happened to preserve the fun memories and bring everyone up to speed (especially those who muted CNA Lifestyle on social media during this time).

THE HIGHLIGHTS

1. MASTERCLASS PERFORMANCES AND SET PIECES

good travel hairstyles

As mentioned in our review of the Eras Tour, the performances were top-notch. The bottom line is: Everyone got their money’s worth on the entertainment front. Swift proved the haters ( gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate ) wrong and gave her all night after night, whether it was belting out her hits, nailing the dance moves or playing her piano and guitar to great fanfare.

Sabrina Carpenter also showed that she was ready to headline a larger venue for her next solo concert in Singapore, thanks to her amazing crowd work.

The set pieces also deserve praise. From giant platforms, LED screens and glowing canes, every element elevated their respective era – hello, Folklore house – making them a delight to watch.

2. THE OUTROS FOR SABRINA CARPENTER’S SONG, NONSENSE

As most fans know, during her song Nonsense, Carpenter usually does an outro that is specific to the city she’s performing in. Singapore was no different and attendees were treated to a unique outro each night, from innocuous ditties to ones that were downright risque and had alleged partners blushing.

A dancer in Swift’s Eras Tour, Kameron Saunders gained attention and praise in recent days for his use of Singlish during the performance of We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together. Like Carpenter, Saunders usually says a line that's unique to each city during this performance. For the Australian leg of the Eras Tour, Saunders thrilled the crowd with the likes of " Naur "   and " Yeah, nah ".

The Singapore leg saw Swift handing Saunders her microphone after she sang the line “Like, we are never getting back together” to which Saunders responded with a Singlish phrase. So far, these have included “ Walao eh ”, “ No, lah ” and “ Alamak ”.

4. THE FAMOUS FACES THAT ATTENDED THE ERAS TOUR

View this post on Instagram A post shared by LISA (@lalalalisa_m)

The Singapore leg of the Eras Tour also became a celebrity-spotting ground as famous faces flocked to the National Stadium to catch Swift. K-pop stars Lisa, Sorn and Minho attended the second night of the Eras Tour and Saltburn actor Barry Keoghan has been spotted on multiple nights, supporting rumoured beau Sabrina Carpenter.

Local celebrities also joined in the fun. Newly-minted mother Rebecca Lim  was "out of confinement" and attended an Eras Tour show. Other personalities included Nathan Hartono, JJ Lin and Carina Lau.

Now, Swift's NFL star boyfriend Travis Kelce has arrived in Singapore to liven up the party. The 34-year-old Kansas City Chiefs tight end arrived on Thursday (Mar 7) while Swift was already in the midst of her concert.

5. THE MARRIAGE PROPOSALS

Congratulations are in order for the newly-minted brides-to-be at the Eras Tour. The shows saw multiple men proposing to their partners during the song Love Story, with audience members cheering them on. Thankfully, their proposals were accepted, adding to an even more enchanted atmosphere.

6. THE SWIFTONOMICS OF IT ALL

good travel hairstyles

Say what you will about the whole exclusivity saga but there’s no denying that it has helped a lot of businesses here. Local businesses selling Swift-themed merch are reporting an uptick in sales while regional demand for Singapore hotels and airlines has seen a spike of up to 30 per cent.

According to one expert, Singapore’s leg of the Eras Tour could potentially generate a revenue of more than US$787 million in economic value. That’s a lot of money.

A few organisations event held Taylor Swift-themed events , such as bracelet-making sessions and photobooths, to build up hype in the days leading up to the Eras Tour here. These events saw Swifties from all over the region coming together to make new friendships and memories.

Speaking of Swifties, who could forget the sheer effort and creativity they've put into  crafting Swift-themed outfits for the show?

THE LOWLIGHTS

1. CROWD CONTROL ISSUES ON THE FIRST NIGHT

Unfortunately, the Eras Tour shows weren’t without faults. The opening night saw fans from other sections rushing into the VIP area, encroaching into the personal space of a few VIP ticketholders, who went online to air their grievances about the bad experience.

According to TikTok user @linmaxin, security guards “pushed the extra people” into the VIP ticketholders’ rows, causing even more crowding to the point where it was “hard to breathe”.

A spokesperson from Kallang Alive Sport Management (KASM) told CNA Lifestyle that they added resources and barriers for the Mar 3 show, Swift's second night, to enhance crowd control measures, and that there were no further reports of such situations since.

2. SECURITY LAPSES THAT SAW FANS ENTERING THE VENUE WITHOUT TICKETS

Two men have also since been charged for helping three other people enter the venue without a ticket. On the third day of the Eras Tour, 29-year-old Yang Chenguang allegedly distracted a security officer while 45-year-old Li Xiao Wei held onto a turnstile to allow three people to enter the National Stadium.

This situation, coupled with the crowd control issues above, makes us wonder if enough security measures had been deployed for such a major event.

3. LOTS OF PEOPLE FELL VICTIM TO TICKET SCAMS RELATED TO THE ERAS TOUR

In early March, the Singapore Police Force revealed that at least S$213,000 (US$158,000) were lost to Taylor Swift concert ticket scams over the past two months – with the number of victims exceeding 330.

Victims would come across concert ticket listings on platforms such as Telegram, X, Facebook and Xiaohongshu.

Scammers would then instruct victims to make payments via PayNow, bank transfers or virtual credits and become uncontactable once they’ve received the funds.

In an effort to curb scams, Carousell suspended ticket sales for the Eras Tour from Feb 23 to Mar 9.

One of the victims of such scams was Thai influencer Chopleum who only found out that her tickets "had already been used" when she tried to enter the National Stadium. A similar case was reported by the owners of pimple patch brand Dododots who claimed that one of the two tickets they bought on resale site StubHub had "already been scanned in".

4. THE RAINY WEATHER

Unfortunately, it was raining for most of the Eras Tour shows. While this did not impact the performances, attendees had to brave the midnight rain as they exited the National Stadium, inconveniencing those who did not bring a poncho.

The good news is that we're now officially out of the woods. There’s no denying that the Eras Tour will go down in history as an impactful event for Singapore. The shows exceeded the wildest dreams of almost every attendee and, suffice it to say, the Eras Tour has become a benchmark for future concerts here.

<p>Bobs are getting a lot of attention lately, but that's really nothing new—especially when it comes to a classic bob cut, <strong>Adam Garfield</strong>, <a rel="noopener noreferrer external nofollow" href="https://www.hairbro.com">hair expert</a> and marketing director for Hairbro, tells <em>Best Life</em>.</p><p>"The simplicity, versatility, and flattering nature of the bob make it enduring," Garfield says. It exudes sophistication and complements diverse fashion trends."<p><strong>RELATED: <a rel="noopener noreferrer external nofollow" href="https://bestlifeonline.com/short-hair-after-50-news/">10 Tips for Switching to Shorter Hair After 50, According to Stylists</a>.</strong></p></p>

A long bob is super classic, and a great way to dip your toes in with a short hairstyle. Abdullah says they look best on oval and square face shapes because the hair nearest to the face can remove some width from the jaw area.

"If the bob is shorter in the back than in the front it can lend a more modern look and also bring the hair forward into the face, which is great for hiding signs of aging," she adds.

It looks great in all colors, and you can style this cut in many different ways.

<p>This style translates to a wavy bob that comes just past the chin. "After the hair is curled lightly, it's fluffed to create a shaggy look," says Abdullah. "With bangs, it's good for people with oblong faces as it hides some of the forehead and makes the face more of an oval shape."</p><p>However, it's also a good cut for people with any face shape. "That's because the length of it pulls the sight down to the neck beyond a pointy chin or square or rounded jawline," explains Abdullah. "The waves also hide the cheeks of a round face and the angles of a square one."</p>

<p>Yes, going gray is an indication of age—but hiding it through hair dyes and other treatments doesn't always help you look younger. Some stylists say they would rather see their clients rock a healthy <a rel="noopener noreferrer external nofollow" href="https://bestlifeonline.com/letting-hair-go-gray-news/">head full of gray hair</a> than allow their roots to start showing anytime upkeep becomes an issue.</p><p>Read the original article on <a rel="noopener noreferrer external nofollow" href="https://bestlifeonline.com/ways-to-look-younger/"><em>Best Life</em></a>.</p>
