Today, Latin rock icon and Twenty-Seven-time GRAMMY & LATIN GRAMMY award-winning artist Juanes announced the eagerly awaited February & March 2024 North American dates of his widely praised Vida Cotidiana World Tour. The powerful rock guitar-driven tour will be both an immersive journey through the career greatest hits of the Colombian superstar, combined with show-stopping live renditions from the artist’s landmark 11th studio album- just re-released in a new extended/deluxe edition .
Produced by Live Nation, the 27-date North American tour run will kick off February 13th in Portland, OR, and travel across the continent to a March 30th finale in Hollywood, FL. Along the way, the tour will reconnect Juanes with his passionate fans in cities such as Los Angeles, San Diego, Las Vegas, Chicago, Montreal, Toronto, Houston, Dallas, Boston, and many more – as well as a ‘ Mark the Calendar’ March 14th dat e at Radio City Music Hall in New York – where over 17,000 fans stretched well over the length of a dozen city blocks, turned out at Central Park Summerstage in July hoping to see Juanes’ Vida Cotidiana live show – marking “the first time in 30 years SummerStage was required to stop a concert in progress for a non-weather related issue”.
“I feel this has already become my artistically strongest and most enjoyable tour. Having begun this creative cycle with all my core band members taking part in the recording process has brought extra levels of musical cohesion and sheer joy of playing to the stage, and the audiences have sensed this and joined us in the celebrations. We are genuinely looking forward to kicking some ass across North American stages early next year.. and we know how!”, explains a smiling Juanes
Vida Cotidiana is built upon a fusion of Juanes early rock and folkloric influences, with the introspective examination of a matured, master songwriter delving deep into a thoughtful adult’s ‘ Day to Day Life’ concerns – ranging from through evolving perspectives on love, marriage & family, to his country & community. This also marked the first-time members of Juanes’ long-time touring band were totally immersed in the album recording, which now brings even an additional level of musical solidarity to the live presentation. The resulting collaborative work unquestionably delivered a new creative pinnacle in Juanes’ distinguished career and has found NPR, Billboard and Rolling Stone declaring that “VIDA COTIDIANA” is his ‘ Best, Most Soulful & Personal Album Yet’ and among ‘The Best Latin Music of 2023’. The album’s recent recognition by members of the Latin Recording Academy has also led to multiple nominations– including ALBUM OF THE YEAR, BEST POP/ROCK ALBUM & BEST ROCK SONG, and another performance invitation for the November 16 th global broadcast of The Latin Grammy Awards .

Juanes arrived in U.S. as Latin music was rising. Now he’s riding another wave.
Juanes didn’t know Latin music would explode when he moved to Miami in 1996, electric guitar in tow. The Colombian-born singer would hear Ricky Martin, Juan Gabriel, Julio Iglesias and, less often, Maná as Spanish-language music played on the radio. Three years later, American media outlets proclaimed an “explosion” in Latin American and Latinx culture in the United States, with Shakira, Jennifer Lopez and Martin at the forefront.
“There was a moment of transcendental change in music,” Juanes recalled.
From the very beginning of his solo career, Juanes, whose full name is Juan Esteban Aristizábal Vásquez, has positioned himself right in the center of what is big in Latin music. Like his early-aughts contemporaries, he would dedicate the next decade of his career to hits that toed the line between commercially viable pop and the rock stylings of his heavy-metal origins. Now-classic songs such as “La Camisa Negra,” “A Dios Le Pido” and “Fotografía” (with Nelly Furtado) made him a driving force in the Rock en Español movement of the early 2000s.
More than 20 years since his critically acclaimed debut album, “Fíjate Bien” (“Look Closely”), Juanes is a Spanish-language pop and rock icon with more than 15 million records sold sales worldwide and two dozen Latin Grammys.
U.S. consumers have again wakened up to Spanish-language music out of Latin America: Bad Bunny was the most-streamed artist in 2022 for the third year in a row. Shakira is having a renaissance. Reggaeton is ubiquitous.
“Today, it’s crazy, no? You hear a lot of reggaeton, but people listen to everything,” Juanes said. Recent collaborations between Drake with Bad Bunny and Metallica with J Balvin have the singer “very excited by what happens in music nowadays.”
When we speak, Juanes is in the red-carpeted studio of his Miami house, surrounded by his guitars. He had just returned from his native Medellín, Colombia, where, he tells me in Spanish, he was able to reconnect with “what I am, with the essence.” It’s this essence that he taps into on the new album, a return to the early days of his career. “Vida Cotidiana” (“Daily Life”), the rocker’s first album of original music in four years, sees him put “instruments played by people” — drums, bass and his beloved guitar — back at the forefront.
After years of experimenting with his sound, drawing freely from a variety of influences from hip-hop and reggaeton, he felt he had hit a “limit.” The pandemic-induced break from decades of touring, where he would spend only about a month at home at a time, gave him the space to write music freely and without “established codes,” he said.
Though Juanes has 10 studio albums under his belt, his latest is the most thematically and sonically tied to his early work. It also shows his evolution. The new album — which features collaborations with legend Juan Luis Guerra and young Latin American artists such as Colombian rapper Mabiland — is more introspective and measured. Songs such as “Gris” and “Más” show off his renewed rock roots, complete with soaring guitars and funky bass lines, while the sweeping “Mayo,” a response to the 2021 protests in Colombia, adds to the artist’s long tradition of socially conscious writing.
The decision to return to his roots took years, he said, but was driven by a “need to return to a place in which I felt a lot more comfortable, not just to be comfortable but to feel natural and authentic.”
Now, the tour in support of “Vida Cotidiana” will see Juanes hitting nine spots across the United States, Latin America and Europe over three months.
On Friday, he’ll have his “Vida Cotidiana” debut at Wolf Trap in Northern Virginia, which he calls “one of my favorite venues.” “I’m very, very excited,” he said. “I’m so excited that I don’t want to get too excited for fear something will go wrong.”
Last month, New York authorities cut short Juanes’s performance at New York’s SummerStage after about 17,000 people showed up and overwhelmed the 5,000-person Central Park venue.
“It was a really weird surprise,” he said. “Sad because I couldn’t play, but at the same time it gave me the certainty that people were interested in seeing music like mine.”
Aug. 18 at 8 p.m. at Wolf Trap, 1551 Trap Rd., Vienna. wolftrap.org . $65-$99.

Juanes, born Juan Esteban Aristizábal Vásquez is an Colombian pop artist. He was born Medellin in Colombia on August 9, 1972.
Colombian Juanes, started his musical career at the very young age of just seven, upon his first guitar lesson. Following his talents in the musically field he then, impressively, still barely a young adult at 15, commenced his first band. They were named, "Ekhymosis", and formed in 1988. This was highly successful and Juanes embarked on a successful career with his band releasing five studio albums. Consequently, whilst still at a young age, this made him a highly recognisable artist in his home country of Colombia. However, unfortunately in 1997 the band broke up and Juanes made the decision to go solo.
This was a brave but wise decision, as the Latin star then went on to release his first solo album in the year 2000, of which he named, "Fijate Bien". Following the success of this album he went on to win three Latin Grammys. Juanes went on to have a successful career with many more album releases.
Fuethermore, Juanes second album, named, "Un Dia Normal", was excitingly certified platinum in numerous countries within his home base of Latin America. Additionally, his third album, named, "Mi Sangre", released in 2004, astoundingly developed into a global hit.
And Juanes talents do not stop there! Juanes campaigns for peace and in 2009 played the "Peace Without Borders" concert in Havana's Plaza de la Revolución. That same year he was also awarded an honorary National Prize for Peace in the country of his birth for his humanitarian work. Then in 2011 he was awarded the Chile Telethon Foundation for the Medal of Solidarity during the final drive of the Chilean solidarity campaign for disabled children.
Live reviews
I do not speak or understand Spanish, but my friend does, so she had suggested we go to his live show. Since I’m a fan of pretty much any live show I had agreed to go. I honestly cannot tell anything about what songs he performed, what he said in between songs, or even if he got the lyrics correct; but I can say that me being at this show is a testament to music being a language of its own.
Juanes, whose full name is Juan Esteban Aristizabal Vasquez, commanded the center stage with his guitar and vocal ability. In the background you had a full live band complete with a brass section. Live brass almost always makes a huge impact on a live show, and this show was not any different. The energy that the stage emitted fed into the crowd, who, throughout the entire show, was dancing and singing along, which was fed right back to the performers. And despite not knowing anything he was singing about, I found myself dancing along with my friend. Going to see Juanes live was probably the most random fun I had ever been dragged to by my best friend, in probably ever.
Report as inappropriate
It is pretty difficult to imagine Colombian pop/rock musician Juanes having been previously involved in heavy metal outfit Ekhymosis. His time with this band does not seem to have effected the sound Juanes produces however due to having this previous experience on stage simply elevates his already naturalistic showmanship.
Since the early 2000s, Juan Vásquez has achieved international acclaim and success with his own solo releases and this notoriety has taken him around the globe numerous times. It is pretty unusual for Latin artists to achieve universal adoration, yet the cheers are evidence enough as Juanes leads out his personal backing band at a stop off in London. The man himself runs through a precise setlist made up of fan favourites and covers including 'You Could Be Loved' by Bob Marley. There is a huge emphasis on the good vibes this evening, the operation is lively, entertaining and engaging throughout and it is perhaps the strength of Juanes' live show that has gained him such worldwide success.
Juan Esteban Aristizábal Vásquez, known simply by his stage name Juanes, is a Colombian pop artist. He has been gracing the Latin music scene since 2000 and has quickly become a big success, especially in his native country in which he has become something of a heart throb. And with his guitar in hand and soft, soulful voice, it is not hard to see why the girls love him. Plus, let’s face it, Spanish always sounds sexy, no matter who is singing in it. However, one does not need to speak or even understand Spanish in order to enjoy Juanes’ music. If you have ears, then you’re golden. The fact that Juanes received such an incredible crowd reaction when he walked on to stage, guitar at the ready, was testament to his abilities and showmanship. He commanded the stage with a natural grace (it was a shocker to discover he had once been a metal head) and had captivated the whole crowd within seconds. He has a rock stars voice and talent, and his songs were wonderfully catchy.
It was awesome!
He is a great musician!
Juanes had everyone dancing, it was nice to see him singing all his top songs plus one more in English. The venue was very good as well, I got beachfront experience tickets, but any other tickets are fine too because the stage had good sound, good lights any place that you stand you can see stage.
Amazing concert!
Not only he sings and plays the guitar live incredibly, but also engages with the public amazingly. He played both new songs and his biggest classics. All the musicians with him were very talented, the lighting and the videos were beautiful.
Such an amazing night!! My husband and I had a great night with an Amazing show!! Will definitely come back to see him!! We have always loved this venue and enjoy it even more when the Performance is amazing!
great live , exciting and full of charge , it was time that I waited to see him live and the wait has been successfully payed. I will back to see him again for sure at the next opportunity
There are no words to express how AMAZING it was to finally see Juanes after many years of being a fan. His performence, precense and energy was amazing!! venue was pretty dope too! :)

Whereas many of his Spanish-language contemporaries undertook English-language crossover campaigns at one point or another in their careers, Colombian singer/songwriter, guitarist, and author Juanes won global appeal exclusively in his native language and became perhaps the biggest and most important popular Latin music artist in the world in the early 21st century. After his debut album, Fijate Bien (2000), won him the Grammy for Best New Artist (the first of two-dozen including 20 Latin Grammy Awards and two Grammys), Juanes broke through to global success with his second offering, Un Día Normal (2002). In the United States alone, the album rode the Billboard Latin chart for two straight years, remaining in the Top Ten for a record-breaking 92 weeks. It also notched charting hit singles (six), Grammy nominations (eight), Grammy awards (five), and various other accolades. When he returned with his third album, Mi Sangre (2004), Juanes again garnered all kinds of commercial success and critical acclaim. He tirelessly toured in support of the album, and by 2005 he had begun topping the singles chart in non-Spanish-speaking countries such as Germany, Italy, and Switzerland. By the time he returned with his fourth album, La Vida...Es un Ratico (2007), Juanes had such a global presence, Universal chose to release "Me Enamora," the lead single, to media outlets in 77 countries; it became a number one hit in 14 of them, setting the stage for another cycle of commercial success. Each recording since that time has expanded his fan base and creative reach. His 2017 chart-topping outing Mis Planes Son Amarte, was the first complete audio-visual album. Conceptual in origin, each of its songs was released with a corresponding thematic video, creating an expanded narrative. It took home the Latin Grammy for Best Rock/Pop Album. After again hitting number one on the Latin Pop Album chart with 2019's Más Futuro Que Pasado, Juanes showcased his influences on the 2021 covers album Origen.

2024 Masters odds, picks, predictions: Tiger Woods projection by golf model that nailed last two winners
Tiger woods, an 82-time pga tour champion, is expected to be part of the 2024 masters field at augusta national golf club.
As long as Tiger Woods continues to compete on the PGA Tour, he'll be one of the top draws in the sport. Woods is expected to return for the 2024 Masters after withdrawing from the Genesis Invitational with the flu a month ago. Even though Woods hasn't finished either of his last two tournaments, withdrawing from the 2023 Masters before missing nearly a full year, he continues to chase history. The Masters 2024 tees off from Augusta National Golf Club on Thursday, April 11. Woods has five career Masters victories, his last coming in 2019.
That year was also his first major victory since 2007. Woods is a 160-1 longshot to win his sixth green jacket in the latest 2024 Masters odds. Scottie Scheffler is atop the Masters odds 2024 at 5-1, while Rory McIlroy is 10-1. Before locking in your 2024 Masters picks, be sure to see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine .
SportsLine's proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June 2020. In fact, the model is up nearly $9,500 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.
McClure's model predicted Scottie Scheffler would finish on top of the leaderboard at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and The Players Championship this season. McClure also included Hideki Matsuyama in his best bets to win the 2024 Genesis Invitational. That bet hit at +9000, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned nearly $1,000.
The model also predicted Jon Rahm would be victorious at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. At the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scheffler winning in 2022.
In addition, McClure's best bets included Nick Taylor (70-1) winning the 2023 RBC Canadian Open, Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson, and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic.
This same model has also nailed a whopping 10 majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.
Now that the Masters 2024 field is set, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard.
Top 2024 Masters predictions
One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2024 Masters: Patrick Cantlay, a 28-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He's a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. Cantlay is seeking his first major title in his 26th appearance, but he's had strong showings without taking the ultimate prize thus far. The 31-year-old has finished in the top 15 in five majors over the past two years, including two top-10 showings. Cantlay made the cut in his first six tournaments this season, including finishing fourth at the Genesis Invitational in mid-February.
Cantlay was third on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained last season, including fourth in strokes gained: off the tee. He's one of the best drivers in the 2024 Masters field, ranking third in total driving, which helped him finish top-five on par-4s (third) and scoring average (fourth) last year. He finished those long drives well, with the second-best birdie average. As long as he puts himself in successful starts with strong drives at the 2024 Masters, the model projects value at 28-1 odds of Cantlay finally securing his first major title.
The model has also examined where Tiger finishes. Woods is 48 and surgeries on his neck, back and legs have clearly taken their toll. However, he defied all odds during his win at the 2019 Masters after having spinal fusion surgery and his course navigation and ball-striking that shined that week.
Woods hit 80.6% of greens in regulation on his way to a 15th major championship victory and will try to tap back into his iron play and course knowledge in 2023. However, Woods has only played seven tournaments with world ranking points assigned over the last two years and has fallen all the way to No. 921. The model just locked in its Tiger Woods Masters picks here .
How to make 2024 Masters picks
The model is also targeting six golfers with Masters odds of 20-1 or longer to make a strong run at the title. Anyone who backs these longshots could hit it big. You can only see the model's PGA picks here .
Who will win the 2024 Masters, which longshots will stun the golfing world, and where will Tiger Woods finish? Check out the Masters 2024 odds below, then visit SportsLine to see the projected Masters leaderboard, all from the model that's nailed 10 golf majors, including the last two Masters winners .

Bruce Springsteen’s rock ’n’ roll church is back in session with the E Street Band

How this guy got his dog into a sold-out rock concert I can’t say.
But there he was, not long before the end of Bruce Springsteen’s gig here Monday night, hoisting a small bulldog onto an elevated walkway running across Pechanga Arena.
Springsteen , who’d come out onto the walkway to sing his indelible “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out,” clocked the pup as he passed by, then knelt down, entirely unfazed, to give it a little pat: just another supplicant looking for a blessing from the Boss.
With his stalwart E Street Band behind him, Springsteen has long conducted his marathon live show as a kind of secular religious revival in which he preaches a gospel of transcendence through abandon.
Weezer’s Blue Album at 30: The inside story of the debut that launched L.A.’s nerdiest band

March 25, 2024
“We are here to wake you, to shake you, to take you to higher ground,” he told the crowd in San Diego, which roared back in approval. “I plan on sending you home with your feet hurting, your hands hurting and your sexual organs stimulated.”
Yet last year, this rock ’n’ roll faith leader stepped away from his pulpit when a bout with peptic ulcer disease forced him off the road amid fears that he’d lost his ability to sing. In January, another blow arrived when his mother, Adele — a crucial booster early in his career and a frequent presence at his concerts well into old age — died at age 98 .
Monday’s show, which had been rescheduled from December, was Springsteen’s third since he resumed his world tour last week after a six-month break. (He’ll play the Kia Forum in Inglewood on April 4 and 7.)
“It’s great to be back in San Diego,” he said at one point. “I mean, where the f— was I?”
Indeed, the Boss’ recent troubles seemed far from his mind throughout a rousing if somewhat standard-issue three-hour performance that delivered just what his fans have come to expect: fist-pumping songs about hope and redemption, affectionate covers of old rock and soul standards, a bit of squishy philosophizing regarding the fragility of life and just enough bum-waggling (in this case during a rendition of the Commodores’ “Nightshift”) to convince you that Springsteen is still enjoying pop stardom at age 74.
Then again, nobody goes to church to be surprised — the point of the thing, as Springsteen has always understood, is to be reaffirmed.
Here his voice was in strong shape in both the roaring uptempo numbers and the stately ballads: a keening bellow in “No Surrender” that he could downshift to summon a sense of gravelly desperation in “My City of Ruins.” He ripped shards of noise from his guitar in “Prove It All Night” and got his harmonica wheezing in “The Promised Land.” “Death to My Hometown” carried a faint whiff of Revolutionary War cosplay as several E Streeters temporarily became a miniature fife and drum corps. But it was fun to see Jake Clemons put his saxophone down to smack a bass drum hard enough that you could hear it without apparent amplification.
Other pleasures from the dozen and a half players crammed onto the stage at Pechanga: the unchanging sight of drummer Max Weinberg’s perfect posture, Nils Lofgren’s dive-bombing guitar solo in “Because the Night,” the gorgeous combination of Stevie Van Zandt’s slick leather trousers and extra-pointy boots.
After 45 minutes or so, Springsteen introduced the members by name, then asked, “Are we missing anybody?” The answer was yes: As at his previous two gigs, the singer’s wife, Patti Scialfa, wasn’t in the band Monday, though he didn’t say why.
“Everybody’s missing somebody in this crowd,” he added with a touch of poetry.
The show was long — maybe too long — on tunes from Springsteen’s most recent handful of albums. (“Mary’s Place”? C’mon.) But once the hits started coming toward the end of the night, they came in a deluge: a luscious and muscular “Thunder Road”; “Born to Run,” delirious as always under the blazing house lights; an almost comically speedy “Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)” that he brought to an impressive standstill so the crowd could take the line about that “pretty little place in Southern California, down San Diego way.”
As a mover, Springsteen was maybe a little creakier than in the other shows I’ve caught over the last decade, at least until he came across that dog in his path during “Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out.” Blessing bestowed, he stood with an ease that looked like purpose.

Four suspects in Moscow concert hall terror attack appear in court
Footage of gunmen reinforces Islamic State’s claim to have masterminded worst terror attack on Russia in two decades
Four suspects have appeared in court in Moscow charged over the terrorist attack on the Crocus City concert hall on Friday that left 137 people dead.
The men were officially identified as citizens of Tajikistan, the Tass state news agency said, and were remanded in custody for two months at Sunday’s hearing.
The court released a video showing police officers bringing one of the suspects into the courtroom in handcuffs, as well as photographs of the same man sitting in a glass cage for defendants. One of the suspects was led blindfolded into the courtroom. When his blindfold was removed, a black eye was visible. Another suspect was brought into the courtroom in a wheelchair.
The men, identified as Saidakrami Murodali Rachabalizoda, Dalerdzhon Barotovich Mirzoyev, Shamsidin Fariduni and Muhammadsobir Fayzov, face charges of a “terror attack committed by a group of individuals resulting in a person’s death”, according to the Tass news agency. All four pleaded guilty.
Earlier on Sunday, Islamic State had released new footage of the attack, corroborating the terror group’s claim to have masterminded the slaughter even as Russia has sought to place the blame on Ukraine, which Kyiv denies.
The incident near Moscow is the deadliest IS-claimed assault on European soil and the deadliest attack by any group in Russia since the 2004 Beslan siege.
The footage, published by IS’s news agency Amaq, showed gunmen filming themselves as they hunted victims in the lobby of the hall and fired from point-blank range, killing scores of people. At one point, one gunmen tells another to “kill them and have no mercy”.
Vladimir Putin said 11 people had been detained, including the four gunmen. Russia’s investigative committee released a video earlier yesterday showing the suspects being led, blindfolded, into its headquarters.
Russia observed a nationwide day of mourning on Sunday for the worst terror attack on the country’s soil in two decades, as the official number of wounded rose to 154. Russian authorities have said they expect the death toll to rise with at least one dozen victims still in critical condition.
Thousands of people brought flowers and other tributes to the Crocus City Hall in Krasnogorsk, outside Moscow, as local emergency workers say they are still continuing to search for anyone who may be left wounded or dead inside the severely damaged entertainment complex.
Putin has not yet visited the site of the shooting. The Kremlin published footage showing the president lighting a candle at a church at his residence outside Moscow on Sunday evening to honour those who died.
Foreign embassies in Moscow have also voiced their solidarity with the victims of the terrorist attack. Flags were lowered to half-mast at the embassies of the US, the UK and the Netherlands amid high tensions over the war in Ukraine .
The Russian leader also claimed, without evidence, that Ukraine had “prepared a window” for the terrorists to cross the border from Russia into Ukraine. Kyiv has vociferously denied any links to the attack and has indicated that it believes Moscow is preparing a pretext to escalate the conflict.
The US has said it received intelligence that the terror group acted alone. “Isis bears sole responsibility for this attack. There was no Ukrainian involvement whatsoever,” the national security council spokesperson, Adrienne Watson, said in a statement.
Russian officials and state media have largely ignored IS’s claims to be behind the attacks. Meduza, an independent Russian-language website, has reported that Russian state-funded and pro-government media had been instructed by the Putin administration to emphasise possible “traces” of Ukrainian involvement in the attack, according to two state media employees.
Olga Skabeyeva, a prominent state television host, claimed on Telegram that Ukrainian military intelligence had recruited assailants “who would look like Isis. But this is no Isis”.
Putin did not name the Islamist terror group during his public statements on the attack, while directly accusing the “Ukrainian side” of involvement. IS also released a photograph of the purported gunmen before the attack. Researchers have noted that their clothing matches that worn by some of the attackers.
On Sunday, the Russian foreign ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, disregarded the US intelligence reports that IS was behind the attacks. “I wish they could have solved the assassination of their own President Kennedy so quickly,” she wrote on Telegram. “But no, for more than 60 years they have not been able to find out who killed him after all. Or maybe that was Isis too?”
“Until the investigation into the terrorist attack at Crocus City Hall is completed, any phrase from Washington exonerating Kyiv should be considered as evidence,” she added. “After all, the financing of terrorist activities of the Kyiv organised criminal group by the American liberal democrats and participation in the corrupt schemes of the Biden family have been going on for many years.”
Fresh details have emerged of how the gunmen stormed the concert hall and began firing into crowds of people, then set fire to the building and fled the scene, leading to a fevered manhunt for the terrorists. The Russian investigative committee said those killed in the concert hall died of gunshot wounds and “poisoning” related to the fire.
The gunmen appear to have planned the attack carefully, setting fires by an emergency stairwell in order to herd people toward a killing zone in the middle of the lobby.
The men were caught in the southern Bryansk region, where authorities said they disabled their vehicle, and then apprehended several of the suspects as they fled into a nearby forest. New videos have been published showing Russian security forces interrogating the men, at least one of whom spoke Tajik during an interrogation. Tajikistan’s foreign ministry initially denied that the suspects were citizens of the country.
In a phone call on Sunday, Putin and the Tajikistan leader, Emomali Rahmon, “noted that security services and relevant agencies of Russia and Tajikistan are working closely in countering terrorism, and this work will be intensified”.
Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) has previously been reported to have recruited radicalised nationals from central Asia, including Tajikistan.
Some of the videos of the interrogations suggest that the men were tortured by Russian security services. One of the clips, circulated by Russian bloggers, appears to show members of the security forces cutting off the ear of a man who is later interrogated over the attack and then stuffing it into his mouth. Another appears to show security forces beating a suspect with their rifle butts and kicking him as he lies in the snow.
Russian independent media noted that the officer who apparently cut off the ear of the suspect was wearing patches that indicated his support for neo-Nazi groups and appeared to have contact with the far-right Rusich paramilitary group, which is active in Ukraine. The patches included a black sun and a symbol resembling the Totenkopf – or death’s head – worn by several Nazi divisions.
Experts have described Friday’s attack as a failure of the country’s sprawling security services, which have been distracted by the war in Ukraine and a relentless crackdown on political opposition at home.
“The FSB obviously had their priorities wrong. They had their main resources on Ukraine and on the domestic opposition,” said Mark Galeotti, an expert on the Russian security services.
“What is striking is the catastrophic incompetence of our security services,” Ivan Zhdanov, the former head of late opposition leader Alexei Navalny’s anti-corruption foundation, told AFP.
Andrei Soldatov, a leading Russian researcher, wrote that the FSB had become “very efficient and innovative at repression … But these are not the qualities that help to prevent attacks happening, and time and again the FSB has failed as an intelligence collection agency because other things are needed: information-sharing capabilities between agencies, both domestic and foreign, and trust between those agencies and within those agencies.”
Meanwhile, Jeremy Hunt said that the UK should “absolutely” be concerned about the threat that IS poses to the country after the terror attack in Moscow.
“We are very lucky in this country that we have incredibly impressive intelligence agencies, who have been successful in stopping, in foiling a lot of terrorist threats over recent years,” the British chancellor told Sky News.
“But we have to remain vigilant. And if it is Islamic State, they are utterly indiscriminate in what they do. They’re prepared to murder in the most horrific way.”

Here’s What We Know About the Moscow Concert Hall Attack
The assault on a popular concert hall was the deadliest act of terrorism in the Russian capital in more than a decade.

An attack Friday at a popular concert venue near Moscow killed 137 people, the deadliest act of terrorism the Russian capital region has seen in more than a decade.
The Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack; American officials have attributed it to ISIS-K, a branch of the group.
Russian officials and state media have largely ignored ISIS’s claim of responsibility and instead suggested that Ukraine was behind the violence. Ukraine has denied any involvement, and American officials say there is no evidence connecting Kyiv to the attack.
Russian authorities have detained at least 11 people, including four migrant laborers described as Tajik citizens who have been charged with committing a terrorist act, but they have not identified most of the accused assailants or their motives.
Here’s a closer look at the attack.
What happened?
The gunmen entered the Crocus City Hall building, one of the biggest entertainment complexes in the Moscow area, with capacity of more than 6,000, shortly before a sold-out rock concert was scheduled to start. Armed with automatic rifles, they began shooting.
Using explosives and flammable liquids, Russian investigators said, they set the building ablaze, causing chaos as people began to run. The fire quickly engulfed more than a third of the building, spreading smoke and causing parts of the roof to collapse. Russia’s emergency service posted a video and pictures from after the fire showing charred seating and firefighters working to remove debris.
Russian law enforcement said that people had died from gunshot wounds and poisoning from the smoke.
At least three helicopters were dispatched to extinguish the fire or to try to rescue people from the roof. The firefighters were only able to contain the fire early on Saturday; the emergency service said it was mostly extinguished by 5 a.m.
The search for survivors ended on Saturday, as details about the victims began to emerge. Many of the more than 100 people injured in the attack were in critical condition.
Russia’s Investigative Committee, a top law-enforcement body, said on Sunday that 137 bodies had been recovered from the charred premises, including those of three children. It said that 62 victims had been identified so far and that genetic testing was underway to identify the rest.
Where are the assailants?
Attackers were able to flee the scene. Early on Saturday, the head of Russia’s top security agency, the F.S.B., said that 11 people had been detained in the connection to the attack, including “all four terrorists directly involved.” The four men were arraigned late Sunday and charged with committing a terrorist act, according to state and independent media outlets, and they face a maximum sentence of life in prison.
The press service of the Basmanny District Court said that the first two defendants, Dalerjon B. Mirzoyev and Saidakrami M. Rachalbalizoda, had pleaded guilty to the charges.
It did not specify any plea from the other two — Muhammadsobir Z. Fayzov, a 19-year-old barber and the youngest of the men charged, and Shamsidin Fariduni, 25, a married factory worker with an 8-month-old baby — according to Mediazona, an independent news outlet.
The men looked severely battered and injured as they appeared in court, and videos of them being tortured and beaten while under interrogation circulated widely on Russian social media.
There were signs that Russia would try to pin blame on Ukraine, despite the claim of responsibility by the Islamic State. The F.S.B. said in a statement that the attack had been carefully planned and that the terrorists had tried to flee toward Ukraine.
How are Russians responding?
President Vladimir V. Putin, who claimed victory in a presidential election last weekend, did not publicly address the tragedy until Saturday afternoon. In a five-minute address to the nation, he appeared to be laying the groundwork to blame Ukraine for the attack, claiming that “the Ukrainian side” had “prepared a window” for the attackers to cross the border from Russia into Ukraine.
But he did not definitively assign blame, saying that those responsible would be punished, “whoever they may be, whoever may have sent them.”
The attack has punctured the sense of relative safety for Muscovites over the past decade, bringing back memories of attacks that shadowed life in the Russian capital in the 2000s.
Russia observed a national day of mourning on Sunday as questions lingered about the identities and motives of the perpetrators. Flags were lowered to half-staff at buildings across the country.
