Why should you book a vacation package to Europe?

By booking packages, you can ensure that your itinerary includes your destination's major sights and experiences. Packages are also a great way to cut the cost of visiting Europe. With the right deal, you can combine luxury accommodation, access to the sights and a rental car, and have money left over to shop for souvenirs.

When should you book a vacation package to Europe?

Booking European packages is an excellent way to save money and make travel easy, and you can make even bigger savings by traveling at the right time of year.

In southern Europe, peak season lasts from around June to September, but cheaper shoulder season breaks in May or October can be almost as sunny. In the north, the peak season is shorter, so look for affordable packages in fall and spring. However, expect price spikes around Christmas and local events like Oktoberfest in Munich or Bastille Day in Paris (14 July).

Where should you stay in Europe during your vacation?

Ideal for a romantic break in laid-back Amsterdam, the Rembrandt Square Hotel is right at the city's heart - and next to the spectacular flower market. A taxi from Schiphol Airport takes just 14 minutes.

For luxury vacations in Europe:

London's Ritz Hotel is like a synonym for luxury. Situated on Piccadilly, it offers delicious Indian and Lebanese food, stunning furnishings and couldn't be more convenient for seeing the sights. It's also almost directly connected to Heathrow Airport via the London Tube.

Lisbon's Four Seasons Ritz Hotel is another great choice for a luxury getaway in Europe, with its Louis XVI style design, artworks in every room and relaxing urban gardens. It's just 20 minutes by car from Lisbon Airport.

For budget vacations in Europe:

A great base for exploring Germany's capital, the A&O Berlin Kolumbus is tucked away from the action but only 15 minutes from Alexanderplatz, the city's hub. This means that getting there from the airport is also quick and easy.

Copenhagen's City Hotel Nebo ticks all the boxes for budget breaks in Denmark. It has a central location and is an easy walk away from the capital's galleries and family attractions like Copenhagen Zoo. And it's just 12 minutes away from the airport by train.

Take a dip in the Blue Lagoon and tick a must-do off the list. If skiing is your thing, head for the Swiss Alps to shred under the shadow of the mighty Matterhorn . In the Scottish Highlands , hike the rugged Isle of Skye and keep an eye out for the Loch Ness Monster (Nessie) at Loch Ness lake. Scandinavia is a dream for outdoor enthusiasts. Sail through the fjords of Norway , chase the northern lights in Finland and hike through lush forests around Stockholm , Sweden . Be sure to add some activities or experiences to your Europe vacation package for the ultimate adventure.

Vacations for Foodies

It’s time to eat your way through Europe! In Brussels , Belgium , chow down on moules-frites (mussels and French fries), Belgium chocolate and waffles and then wash it all down with a beer. Bring your appetite to the birthplace of pizza, Naples . Order a slice from a hole-in-the-wall restaurant to find out why it’s considered the world’s best. While you’ll no doubt think of wine when it comes to Bordeaux , this French culinary haven is also renowned for its oysters, foie gras and canelé pastries. Tapas, paella and churros dipped in chocolate are on the menu in Madrid , while Portugal’s capital Lisbon serves up delicacies from pastéis de Belém (custard tarts) to grilled sardines.

Europe Packages on a Budget

If you’re looking for cheap vacation packages in Europe , Budapest won’t break the budget. Glamorous Nice , Cannes and Saint-Tropez are just over the border in France . Ibiza is one of Spain’s most famous luxury destinations. Europe - Tour Package Highlights and Trip Insights

With so much to see, do, eat and buy, planning a Europe tour is no easy feat. There are, of course, the typical sightseeing musts: Paris’ Louvre, London’s Tower Bridge, and Rome’s Colosseum. Even Europe’s most frequent visitors will always find something new to discover. Read on for our top Europe tour highlights and Europe trip insights.

Europe Tour Package Highlights

 • Go back in time and explore the ruins of ancient civilizations in Italy and Greece
 • Snack on cheese and wine (or escargot, if you’re feeling adventurous) in the Champ de Mars, beneath the Eiffel Tower
 • Ride a bicycle through the townhouse-lined streets of Amsterdam before touring the canals by boat
 • Listen to the romantic songs of the gondoliers as you cruise through the canals of Venice
 • Indulge in an authentic Belgian waffle, drowned in chocolate
 • Enjoy an ice-cold beer from a beer stein at Oktoberfest in Germany
 • Hike from village to village in Italy’s Cinque Terre
 • Get lost between the shelves of some of the world’s most beautiful libraries, like those at Trinity College (Dublin, Ireland), Mafra Palace (Mafra, Portugal), and the Clementinum Baroque Library Hall (Prague, Czech Republic)
 • Join a Europe tour that goes through many of Europe's travel highlights in countries such as Spain , France , Italy , Netherlands and Scandinavia .

Europe Trip Insights

 • Traveling by rail is one of the easiest (and sometimes cheapest) ways to get around Europe, especially if you plan to travel for a couple of weeks (or longer). Investigate rail passes before you visit, particularly ones that can be used between countries. Interrail and Eurail are very popular among travelers.
 • Don’t skip the “touristy” destinations. Everyone travels differently, but the most popular European highlights are popular for a reason. Brave the crowds and be sure to stop by those more cliché sites - you’ll be glad you did.
 • Try not to over prepare! One of the great benefits of visiting Europe is that it’s incredibly easy to travel between towns and countries. Allow yourself some flexibility to open yourself up to new adventures (and avoid travel burnout). If you've booked a Europe tour package with accommodation, activities, guides etc. get ready to indulge and relax - you are up for a Europe trip of a lifetime.
 • Chances are you don’t speak 23 different languages, so be prepared before you travel. Avoid carrying around heavy guide books by downloading a translation app on your phone.
 • Note that not all European countries use the Euro, including the United Kingdom , Denmark and Hungary (among others). Do your research beforehand and be ready to juggle different currencies if you’re planning an extensive trip.
 • Travelling on a budget? Check our last minute holiday and travel deals to Europe . Also, consider looking for accommodation outside the city centre. Most large European cities are very well connected by public transportation, meaning all your bucket list sites are just a quick (and often inexpensive) bus, train, or metro ride away.

Tours in Europe - Questions and Answers

If you are planning to visit multiple countries, you should prepare a tentative list of destinations you are interested in. If it is your first trip, stick to major cities and cultural centers for the sake of simplicity and convenience. Also, be flexible and optimize your travel time and budget. Be open to changing your itinerary depending on schedules and ticket prices.

You can spend a couple of months exploring Europe and still feel like you have not seen everything. Generally speaking, a two-week Europe trip should be just enough if you are looking to cover its major highlights. However, if you want a comprehensive travel experience within this duration, it is better that you focus on a region or a few countries rather than traveling all over the continent.

Choose a single country or schedule your trip around a handful of cities in different countries. While larger European cities may require three to four days to explore, you can get around smaller destinations in a day or two. Planning your trip around a particular region will cut down your travel time and save your time in transit.

There are dozens of insurance companies offering travel insurance, which can make it difficult for you to choose the right one.

There are a number of things that you should be aware of while purchasing travel insurance. If it is comprehensive medical insurance plans that you are interested in, make sure to find out what all the plan covers. If you are concerned about certain scenarios, then check out customizable travel insurance policies and find out if the provider can cover you for those situations. You also need to determine if there are reasonable coverage limits. Check deductibles and compensation limits in the insurance policy for this.

While insurance is important, it is mostly a safeguard against emergencies. If you are on a budget, you can go with the second- or even third-best option and prioritize getting your money’s worth instead of purchasing the most comprehensive coverage.

Europe has swathes of spectacular landscapes, a rich history, and vibrant cultures. Therefore, deciding on the best travel destinations on the continent can be difficult. However, you can narrow down on highlights by choosing one overarching theme for your trip.

If you are looking forward to immersing yourself in art and history, then Italy, Spain , and France should be on the top of your list. Head for Switzerland , Norway , or Croatia if nature is what you love the most. For beaches and water sports, you will be hard-pressed to find better destinations than Greece , Portugal , and Montenegro.

Having said that, you can also diversify your itinerary by mixing and matching different elements of the same country. Italy tops the charts not just for its medieval monuments and Renaissance art but also for coastal scenery and sun-soaked beaches. Similarly, Spain is a foodie paradise as much as it is an architectural hotspot.

Bus services like FlixBus and BusAbout offer a convenient means of transport if you wish to move from one city to another within the same country. Although these services do travel between countries, they might not be the best choice due to a longer travel time.

Budget airlines are another great way to get around Europe’s major cities, especially when you want to cut down on travel time between two countries. Keep an eye out and you might be able to snag tickets at unbelievable rates. Services like Skyscanner can be of help. Some of the largest budget airlines in the continent are Ryanair , WizzAir , Eurowings , and EasyJet .

Ridesharing services are a godsend for those wishing to immerse themselves in local culture as they offer you the chance to catch a ride with locals along the way. BlaBlaCar is the largest one. The only downside is that it is not always as easy to book a rideshare service as it is to catch a bus or hop on a budget flight.

The USA is one of the 63 countries whose citizens enjoy visa-free entry into the EU Schengen zone along with the UK and associated states like Iceland , Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland.

This means that if you are an American citizen with a valid US passport and want to travel to Europe for a limited amount of time for tourism or business purpose, you can do so anytime you want to. However, if you have more long-term plans (say, you intend to get employed, study, or simply live in Europe for an extended period of time), you will need to apply for a visa. The type of your visa and required documentation depend on your goals.

Update for 2022: EU is set to launch ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) by the end of this year. It is similar to ESTA and is supposed to help simplify travel procedures and decrease security risks. All travelers allowed to travel to the EU and associated states visa-free will require an ETIAS authorization. This also includes US citizens.

If your country has a visa-free agreement with the EU, you are allowed to spend up to 90 days within a period of 180 days. Keep in mind that the countdown starts on the date of your entry and ends on the date of your exit. So, for example, if you fly into an EU country on the first of the month and exit on the 15th, it will count as a 15-day stay.

There are 63 countries in the world that have a visa-waiver agreement with the EU . If your country is part of this agreement, you can travel to Europe visa-free. You do, however, need to show the following to be allowed into the Schengen Zone and associated states.

 • A valid passport: Your passport should have a validity of at least 3 months at the time of your entry into Schengen and be less than ten years old.
 • Purpose of entry: In addition to your passport, you also require documents that prove that you are there for tourism purposes. These documents can include invoices for hotel reservations and booked tours.
 • Proof of financial means: You also need to carry documents proving that you can support yourself during your stay in the region.

As long as you have got all three, all you need is a plane ticket to your chosen destination.

A European vacation is a trip many of us dream about. Art, history, culture, architecture, food — there’s something for everyone in Europe. As you can imagine, that all comes with a hefty price tag.

While a trip to Europe can be expensive, there are ways to save money . One of those ways is to purchase a vacation package. When you purchase a package consisting of flights and hotels (and even rail tickets, in the case of Europe) there’s a good chance you’ll save money. While it’s not a guarantee, we’ve found the prices of packages are usually less expensive than purchasing flights and hotels separately.

Since there are lots of places to purchase vacation packages, we wanted to narrow it down for you. These 9 websites all offer European vacation packages and will be a great starting point for planning your vacation.

Eurailing Packages is a little different than the rest of our featured websites because instead of a traditional hotel and airfare package, it offers packages that bundle accommodations and train tickets . This will be handy for vacation packages within Europe, but not necessarily for getting to Europe.

EURailing Packages website

Since train travel is very popular in Europe, we thought this was a great option to include in this list. You can choose from the site’s predesigned packages and current deals, or you can build your custom accommodation and rail package.

Something thing to keep in mind when using this website is that the price includes a hostel, not a hotel . You’ll have the option to pay extra for a hotel when you’re finalizing the details of your trip but you won’t know the specific hotel or room type until after your booking is complete.

EURailing Packages hotel or hostel

Hot Tip: Use points and miles to fly to Europe when your vacation package only includes accommodations and rail tickets.

Grand European Travel might be a good place to search for a European vacation package if you’d like the planning done for you. This website offers lots of predesigned trips but doesn’t have the option to make your own. For someone who doesn’t want to do the legwork of planning a trip, that could be a welcome benefit.

Grand European Travel

If you decide to book a vacation package through Grand European Travel, keep in mind that solo travelers will default to a shared room. If you’d rather have private accommodations, you can select that during the checkout process for an additional charge.

Another nice thing about booking through Grand European Tours is that in addition to only needing to pay a deposit to reserve your trip, you can get a full refund if you need to cancel within 30 days . You can also change your departure date or destination free of charge until 60 days before your trip.

Costco Travel is another great site that can help you find the perfect European vacation. You can choose a curated package or design your own.

Costco Travel European Vacation Packages

While you have to be a Costco member to purchase Costco Travel, you can search for a package without a membership. Often, packages purchased through Costco Travel will come with a Costco Shop Card or extra perks which can more than make up for the price of the membership. Plus, Executive members earn 2% back on purchases, including those from Costco Travel.

If you’re an Executive Member, be sure to keep an eye out for extra perks on your vacation package. These can often make up for the additional cost of an Executive Membership.

Take a look at some of the member benefits we found on a London and Paris vacation package:

 • $400 London tour credit
 • Daily breakfast
 • £35 food and beverage credit at the London hotel (Executive Members)
 • Fruit basket and chocolates at the Paris hotel (Executive Members)

Bottom Line: You have to be a Costco member to purchase a vacation package from Costco Travel, but you can check prices without being a member. Often, a package will come with perks or even a Costco Shop Card that can more than make up for the cost of a membership. For more information, check out our guide to using Costco Travel .

Booking a European trip through Delta Vacations can be a great way to earn lots of Delta SkyMiles .

You’ll also want to keep an eye out for deals that will award you extra bonus points. At the time of writing, you could get up to a $400 Delta gift card or up to 75,000 Delta SkyMiles for booking a flight and hotel package .

Delta Vacations European packages

You can earn an additional 2 to 3 SkyMiles per $1 spent when you use a Delta co-branded credit card , too.

If you’d rather use Delta SkyMiles to pay for your vacation package, you can do that, too. You can pay for all or part of your vacation with your miles at 1 cent each in value . That’s just about what we value Delta SkyMiles at, so this can represent a good use of miles.

Use Delta SkyMiles for a vacation package

Bottom Line: You can either earn or use SkyMiles for a vacation package purchased through Delta Vacations.

Expedia is a tried-and-true website for booking travel because it’s easy to use and often has great deals. Your European vacation package can be customized to include flights, a hotel, and even a rental car.

The map feature is a great tool for finding a hotel in the perfect location , and there are lots of filtering options that will help narrow your search results even more.

Expedia European vacation package search results

Expedia participates in the One Key rewards program which allows you to earn and use points on eligible trips and access special member pricing . This is a good way to earn rewards when you don’t participate in a hotel chain’s loyalty program or are booking a hotel that doesn’t have its own loyalty program.

For more information including how to use the One Key program, check out our guide to using Expedia to find great deals on travel .

Hot Tip: If you choose a hotel that has its own loyalty program (Hyatt, Marriott, Hilton, etc.) you won’t earn hotel points when you book through a third-party website, nor will your elite status be recognized. If hotel points and elite status are important to you, you may want to consider booking direct.

Kayak is a great tool for finding hotels, flights, and vacation packages. It’s a metasearch engine so the prices you’ll see will be from other websites most of the time (though you can occasionally book directly through Kayak). It’s a great way to compare prices from lots of other sites at the same time.

European Vacation packages on Kayak

You can use the handy map feature to search for hotels by location or use the filtering options to find a hotel that offers a perk that’s important to you like free breakfast or free parking. There are also options to choose any property type — from apartments to hostels to resorts and everything in between.

Hot Tip: For more information, check out our guide to booking travel with Kayak .

United Vacations is a great website to use to search for European vacation packages, especially if you like flying United or live near a United hub that will have lots of flight options.

United Vacations Europe packages

It can also be a great option for anyone who wants to earn more United MileagePlus miles — you’ll earn them on your vacation package if you provide your membership number at booking. Unfortunately, you can’t redeem United miles for your trip.

This site has many of the sorting and filtering options you’d find on other sites, and you can even add extras like trip insurance or airport transfers to your package.

Bottom Line: You’ll earn United MileagePlus miles when you book a package through United Vacations, but you can’t redeem miles for any part of your trip. Instead, check out these ideas when you’re ready to spend your miles.

CheapTickets is a popular online travel agency for hotels, flights, rental cars, and vacation packages. It’s owned by Expedia so it has the same functionality as that site, but it often has different pricing, so it’s worth checking them both out.

CheapTickets

During the booking process, you’ll be able to add extras like airport transportation, a rental car, activities, and trip insurance .

Hot Tip: Before you add trip protection from an online travel agency like CheapTickets, be sure to read up on the policy for your credit card with travel insurance so you don’t end up buying something you may already have. You might also want to price out a policy with a few travel insurance companies to compare plans and prices before you book your trip.

Booking a European vacation package through Priceline is a straightforward and easy process. You can search for any combination of flights, hotels, and cars under the Bundle + Save search tab on the home page. The search results will quickly give you hotel information including the price and how much you can expect to save on the package.

Priceline European vacation package search results

Priceline has its own loyalty program called Priceline VIP that offers discounts, a best rate guarantee, and Express Deal coupons. While these perks are available as soon as you join, the discounts get bigger and better as you reach new status tiers within the program.

Hotel savings start at 10% for all members and go up to 50% on over 45,000 hotels for top-tier VIP Platinum members . Additionally, those with VIP Member or VIP Blue status will get a 5% Express Deal coupon after every trip, VIP Gold members get an 8% Express Deal coupon after every trip, and VIP Platinum members get a 10% Express Deal coupon after every trip.

Hot Tip: Make sure you’re earning lots of points by using a credit card that’s great for purchasing vacation packages .

Now let’s get to the important part — price comparisons. Since it’s hard to compare prices head-to-head for custom packages and ones that include rail tickets, we’ll only be looking at the sites where you can design your own.

Package #1: 6 nights in Paris at Sofitel Arc de Triomphe plus round-trip airfare from Atlanta (ATL) for 2 adults.

Package #2: 6 nights in London at St. Ermin’s Hotel, Autograph Collection plus round-trip airfare from Dallas-Ft. Worth (DFW) for 2 adults.

*Includes daily continental breakfast, airport transfers, and a guaranteed room upgrade.

For the first example, Expedia has the lowest price by far and the package even includes breakfast! Costco Travel was the most expensive. In the second example, Kayak and Priceline were the lowest-priced options with United Vacations coming in as the most expensive.

As you can see, there’s not a single website that always has the best prices, so it’s always a good idea to price out your vacation package on a few different websites to see where you can get the best deal.

Booking a vacation package for your trip to Europe can be a great way to save some money on a hotel, flights, and even train tickets. Since no single website will always have the best prices, it’s a good idea to price out your trip in a few different places to make sure you’re getting the best deal.

How do i plan an affordable european vacation.

There are a few things you can do to keep costs down on your European vacation. First, focus on budget hotels since the prices for luxury accommodations can add up quickly. You can also focus on hotels you can book with points. Consider getting a rail pass or inexpensive economy flights to get around to different countries within Europe. To fly to Europe, you can book your flights with airline miles, or look for a vacation package that includes flights and hotels to keep your costs low.

Where can I find multi-country European vacation packages?

Many websites let you put together a European vacation package that includes stops in multiple countries. Check out Eurailing Packages, Grand European Travel, or Costco Travel for multi-country itineraries.

Where can I find the best Europe tour packages?

There are many websites that offer different options so you can customize a package that fits your needs. Try Eurailing Packages for packages that include rail tickets or Grand European Travel for multi-country itineraries. Expedia, Priceline, and Kayak are all good sites to find cheap European vacation packages.

Are vacation packages actually cheaper?

While vacation packages aren’t cheaper 100% of the time, they usually offer a savings over booking a hotel stay and airfare separately. That being said, you should always price out everything separately and as a package to ensure you’re getting a good deal.

Europe tours by region.

If you’re looking for royal castles, romantic ruins, historic buildings, and cosmopolitan cities, you can find it all on a European tour! Whether you’re visiting chic Paris in Western Europe, enjoying the architecture of Prague in Eastern Europe, or sightseeing through the British Isles of the United Kingdom, there’s lots to explore traveling in Europe. Check out the following recommendations for a taste of what each region offers.

Great Britain & Ireland

A tour of Great Britain , the isle comprising England , Scotland, and Wales, could take you to medieval castles, charming villages, wild moors, ancient ruins, and bustling cities. Head north to explore highlands and lochs, find ancient ruins and warm up with a nip of scotch whisky because a Scotland tour has it all! While in the United Kingdom , be sure to visit Belfast , Londonderry, and the legendary Giant’s Causeway in County Antrim, Northern Island.

Who can resist the charm of Ireland ? A tour through Ireland offers travelers wild coastlines, jagged cliffs, regal castles, famous dance moves, and lively music in local pubs. The capital of Dublin is well-known for its draw to travelers with iconic sites like The Guinness Storehouse at St. James's Gate, the famously red Temple Bar, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Trinity College , and the Book of Kells.

Northern Europe

Take a tour of Iceland to chase the most spectacular show on Earth—the Northern Lights and see the breathtaking night sky filled with the aurora borealis and its vast spectrum of color. Discover Viking heritage and breathtaking Scandinavian scenery on a Sweden vacation. Visit Hans Christian Andersen's Little Mermaid gazing wistfully across the harbor in Copenhagen, Denmark ’s capital. In Finland ’s capital, Helsinki, see the modern marble façades of Finlandia Hall, the Senate and the colorful stalls in Market Square. Norway 's incredible glacier countryside beckons travelers with deep blue waters surrounded by majestic snow-capped peaks and lush green landscapes.

Southern Europe

It’s said that if you only visit one European city in your life, make it Rome, Italy . With iconic sites like the Colosseum , Roman Forum, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain , and the Pantheon, plus Vatican City right next door, it’s the perfect first stop on a tour of Italy . Then travel to Florence for the art and Venice for the romance. Make sure you eat as much pasta and pizza as possible while you travel Italy and also try the famous Italian wines .

Venture across the Ionian sea to Greece , famous for its history, cerulean blue sea, sun-drenched Aegean islands , fresh Mediterranean diet, and warm, hospitable people.

Western Europe

Gourmet cuisine, wine, elegant architecture, world-class museums, high fashion, and stunning scenery are all the ingredients for a perfect French vacation! A trip to the Netherlands is like stepping back in time with its picturesque canals, charming windmills, spectacular tulip fields, clogs, and bicycles.

From paella to Peñíscola, tapas to Toledo, immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of the Iberian Peninsula on a Spanish vacation. Begin your Spain tour in Madrid—Europe’s highest capital—and see Plaza Mayor, Gran Vía, Puerta Del Sol, and the Cibeles Fountain. Take a trip to Portugal and discover its tradition as one of the great European naval powers, the music of the Fado guitar, and Port wine from vineyards along the Douro River Valley.

Further east, you can breathe in crisp mountain air from the rooftop of Europe on a tour of Switzerland . From the Matterhorn to Stanserhorn, the magnificent Swiss Alps cover 60 percent of the country. And a tour of Germany could take you from the fairytales of the Brothers Grimm in the Black Forest to Saxony and the cultural treasures of Dresden to the ancient city of Cologne on the Rhine .

Eastern Europe

Get off the beaten path with a trip to Bosnia and Herzegovina on the Balkan peninsula. Croatia beckons visitors to its cerulean Adriatic waters, medieval cities, and beautiful national parks.

A unique fusion of the East and West, Turkey’s cultural roots stem from almost every major Eurasian empire.

Frequently Asked Questions About Europe Tours

 • When is the best time to tour Europe? While you can visit Europe all year round, most travelers prefer to visit Europe during the warmer months of June to September. More often than not, you’ll find that the sky is bright and blue, the beaches are wonderful, and the weather is perfect. Still, traveling to Europe in the Spring, Winter, and Fall has several benefits. Sites are less crowded, the weather is milder, and there are seasonal events happening like Tulip Festivals in Spring or Christmas Markets during the holidays. Want to learn more? Read all about choosing the best time for you to travel to Europe .
 • What are the best places to visit in Europe? This answer depends on what you're specifically looking for in a vacation. If you're looking to dive into the culture via the food scene, then Italy, Spain, and France are amazing places to tour. Try countries like Croatia, Greece, and Portugal if you want warmer weather and sandy beaches. For more historical sightseeing, visit Prague in the Czech Republic or Bosnia and Herzegovina in Eastern Europe. If you're a nature lover, you can't go wrong with a trip to Switzerland, Iceland, or Germany. There are so many unique places to enjoy when you travel Europe that it's hard to choose just one reason to go! Check out our picks for the top 20 cities to visit in Europe .
 • What is the best way to tour Europe for the first time? A guided vacation is the best way to tour Europe for the first time. When you travel on a guided vacation, everything is organized for you: the best hotels, the finest meals, must-see sights, the best experiences, and comfortable transportation from one place to the next. Plus, each tour is accompanied by a Travel Director, an expert with a finger on the pulse of the destinations. That means no unpleasant surprises, language barriers, or stress. Simply worry-free travel.
 • How many months in advance should I plan a trip to Europe? We recommend you start to plan your trip to Europe between 3 -10 months before you want to travel. Though, airlines don’t publish fares much further out than 10-11 months. You should look to book your vacation once you can lock in your flights. Luckily, we take care of all of that for you. If travelers know they want to go for a special anniversary or event, they’ll book years in advance so they know they’re set and can let us handle it from there. It’s important to make sure your passport is valid for at least six months after you’re planning to return to the states. Planning earlier allows you plenty of time to renew your passport if needed. Travel rules are changing daily If you're not sure, ask your Travel Specialist or find out more with our simple destination guide .
 • How much does an average tour of Europe cost? No matter what you plan to see or where you’d like to go, you can choose Grand European Travel to plan and book your tour of Europe. When you travel with Grand European Travel, the average tour costs approximately $3,500. Though, we offer great value vacations that start as low as $1,125.
 • Decide WHERE you want to go Do you want to see one or more countries? Do you want to spend lots of time in one place, or move around? Are you looking for a relaxing trip to unwind or an in-depth trip that dives deep into a culture? Depending on what you’re looking for in a vacation, the places you’ll choose to go will vary. If you have a general idea of the region or area you want to visit, it’s easier to start narrowing down what you want to do while there.
 • Decide WHAT you want to see Are you looking to see just the iconic sites of a couple of places to get a taste of Europe and the countries you might like? Are you looking to explore in depth a region you’ve already visited and want to see again? Are there sites you simply cannot miss so you’ll need to make sure you get there while on your trip? Or, is there a special place, maybe nostalgic in ways, that you’d like to visit in Europe? Jot down a few of the highlights you’d like to hit along the way. This will help guide you to exactly when you’d like to travel.
 • Decide WHEN you want to go Again, depending on what you want to do, the time of year you’d like to go is important to figure out. If you’re looking for a romantic getaway in Venice, you might not want to visit during the high-water months. If you’re trying to see the Northern Lights in Iceland, you shouldn't go in June. Want to save some money by traveling in the Off-Season, or simply need to see the Italian Lakes in Fall? If you know where you want to go and what’s important you want to do while there, then you’ll be able to figure out the general months you’re looking to travel.
 • Decide HOW MUCH you want to spend on your trip If you’re planning a trip of a lifetime, you’re probably going to want to splurge a bit. If you’re looking for an overview of European countries and know you’ll be going back to ones you like, you might not need to spend as much as you think. If you want an all-inclusive, luxury experience it will more than likely cost more than a tour with more optionals to add on as you go.

Why Should You Visit Europe?

There are unlimited reasons to travel to Europe. It is bursting with history, culture, and surreal landscapes, as well as a multitude of cuisines, regional wines, customs, and hospitality unique to every country on the continent. Needless to say, if you’re seeking adventure, a relaxing trip, or even just a break from the regular, you should travel to Europe.

Dreams Jardin Tropical Resort & Spa on Tenerife, the largest of Spain's stunning Canary Islands, stands out as soon as it comes into view. Its mix of Mediterranean and North African design is eye-catching. The water features — including a swimming pool spread across several levels, with waterfalls cascading down toward the ocean — create a gorgeous setting for relaxation. Expect to spot a few jealous glances from the general public as they walk past the property.

Like other AMR Collection resorts, the culinary options are abundant at Dreams Jardin Tropical. Guests will find 10 food and beverage outlets serving everything from Spanish tapas to American steakhouse fare and contemporary Italian cuisine. There's even a mammoth breakfast buffet that rivals those in Las Vegas, offering hundreds of options to start your day.

Other amenities include two kids clubs, a spa with a sauna, a beach club and an open-air gym with sweeping ocean views. Travelers keen on exploring the island can also take advantage of the on-site bike facility, where rentals, storage lockers and more are available.

The accommodations are varied, too. Each of the 419 guest rooms and suites — which feature blue-and-white color schemes and natural elements like wood and bamboo — measures at least 300 square feet and overlooks the property's pools or the ocean. All are outfitted with flat-screen TVs, minibars and furnished balconies or terraces.

All-inclusive rates at Dreams Jardin Tropical Resort & Spa start at 378 euros ($398) per night, based on double occupancy.

Overlooking Corfu's beautiful Ionian coast, the 411-room Ikos Dassia doesn't feel like your typical megaresort, thanks to its careful and respectful design. The property's low-rise buildings blend into the surrounding landscape, giving guests the sense that they're fully immersed in Corfu's stunning scenery. If they want to leave the resort to go sightseeing, the hotel's complimentary car service can help.

Rooms and suites feature minibars fully stocked with spirits that are replenished daily; they also have furnished balconies with land or sea views as well as flat-screen TVs with DVD players. Upgrade to a deluxe suite for even more amenities, including high-end Anne Semonin toiletries, a Nespresso machine and access to the exclusive Deluxe Collection Pool. Some deluxe accommodations also come with private pools or gardens.

No matter your accommodation type, you'll have access to a nearly 2,000-foot stretch of sand lined with fragrant olive and pine trees. Additionally, you can cool off in several indoor and outdoor pools, including some designed specifically for families. Younger guests can hang out at the kids and teens clubs while parents enjoy a spa treatment, partake in a fitness class or sip a drink at one of several bars.

When you're ready for a bite to eat, sit for a meal at one of eight on-site restaurants serving a range of cuisines, including Greek, Italian, Asian and French. Or, take advantage of the hotel's Dine Out program, which lets guests eat at select dining venues around Corfu without paying out of pocket.

All-inclusive rates at Ikos Dassia start at 334 euros ($352) per night, based on double occupancy. Keep in mind that the hotel has a five-night minimum for all stays.

The 220-room property is home to 13 different accommodation types. Options range from 365-square-foot standard doubles with air conditioning and balconies or terraces to 602-square-foot superior suites with sea views and private pools. This variety ensures that all travelers, especially families, will find a configuration that works for them. There's more to this Iberostar property than its plentiful sleeping quarters, though.

Seafood lovers can tuck into local Portuguese delicacies like soberio bacalao (salted cod) prepared fresh to order at live cooking stations. Meanwhile, wellness enthusiasts can break a sweat in the 24-hour fitness center or enjoy a treatment at the property's spa. There are four pools for travelers who'd prefer to spend their vacation lazing in the sun.

Best of all, visitors can rest easy knowing they're staying at an environmentally conscious property. This beachfront hotel no longer distributes single-use plastics, serves as much sustainably sourced seafood at its restaurant as possible and plans to be carbon neutral by 2030.

All-inclusive rates at the Iberostar Selection Lagos Algarve start at 208 euros ($219) per night, based on double occupancy.

The H10 Rubicon Palace on Lanzarote is certainly palatial, with almost 600 rooms and suites. All have air conditioning, minibars and flat-screen TVs tuned into international channels. As a bonus, the hotel is also dog-friendly.

During your stay, you're unlikely to get bored with the food and beverage offerings thanks to the hotel's 13 dining venues specializing in Italian, Asian and American cuisines. Room service is also available 24 hours a day, and there is a poolside food truck for meals on the go.

Despite lacking direct beach access, the H10 Rubicon Palace provides many ways to enjoy the Canary Islands' sublime weather year-round. Families can play miniature golf and splash in the three children's pools (including one with a pirate ship structure with a waterslide); little ones can enjoy the three kids clubs. Older guests can unwind at the five adults-only pools, pamper themselves at the spa, or try on-site activities like dance classes and water aerobics.

Whether you're indecisive or prefer having multiple options while on vacation, the Club Med La Palmyre Atlantique will appeal to travelers who want a bit of serendipity with their all-inclusive stay. Situated in Les Mathes, France — a coastal community less than two hours northwest of Bordeaux — this Club Med outpost offers a mix of everything you could want while visiting France: phenomenal food, coastal charm and proximity to top-notch vineyards.

The Atlantic restaurant offers local oysters and shellfish dishes as well as French delicacies like croissants and foie gras. A more casual seafood venue called La Belle Epoque is also available. You can even partake in wine-tasting workshops at La Belle Epoque's wine cellar.

To work off all the gourmet fare and extra pours of vino, sign up for the resort's beach boot camp or try sailing on nearby Bonne Anse Bay. If you'd rather stay on dry land, grab a bike and traverse 18 miles of mountain biking trails through the sprawling La Coubre forest. Or challenge another guest to a tennis match. A kids club and a children's pool are also available for those little vacationers.

When you're ready to retire for the night, expect a serene room with thoughtful amenities. All 392 rooms and suites are mostly white with colorful pops of blue and green — an homage to the surrounding seascape and countryside. In addition to standard features like air conditioning and TVs, they come with little luxuries like heated towel bars in the bathrooms and furnished terraces or balconies.

All-inclusive rates at the Club Med La Palmyre Atlantique start at 474 euros ($499) per night, based on double occupancy. Keep in mind that the resort has a seven-night minimum for all stays.

This beachfront property overlooking the Mediterranean Sea draws inspiration from its location in the Turkish resort city of Antalya. The 183 rooms, suites and villas are housed in buildings with traditional Seljuk architecture (think: towering stone structures with clean lines, grand archways and domed tops).

Accommodations are spacious, measuring at least 409 square feet. In-room amenities include minibars, desks and balconies with views of the hotel gardens, the sea or the two on-site 18-hole golf courses. Bathrooms are particularly well appointed, as they're outfitted with heated floors and mirrors alongside separate showers and bathtubs.

After a restful night's sleep, guests can enjoy many activities without setting foot off the resort grounds. Besides teeing off at the championship courses, visitors can dip in the Mediterranean's clear blue waters or the outdoor pool, which has a swim-up bar. Later, you can sing tunes at the karaoke bar, savor fresh fish with international flavors at Palm Lounge & Bar or grab a snack from the Dome Cafe, among other food and beverage outlets.

One facility you won't want to miss is the hotel's spa. It specializes in Ayurvedic treatments using coconut, almond or castor oils enhanced with holistic healing herbs such as turmeric, tulsi, brahmi and rosemary. The treatments benefit the central nervous system, eliminate symptoms of stress and help treat insomnia and headaches.

All-inclusive rates at Kempinski Hotel The Dome start at 247 euros ($260) per night, based on double occupancy. Keep in mind that the hotel has a two-night minimum for all stays.

This adults-only property on Lanzarote in the Canary Islands is ideal for travelers craving time away from kids. At Secrets Lanzarote Resort & Spa, all 335 guest rooms and suites have huge 65-inch smart TVs, minibars, balconies or terraces with garden, mountain or ocean views.

Guests can swim and sunbathe at one of four outdoor pools or visit the spa, where amenities include an indoor pool, a Turkish bath and a Scottish shower (where a hot shower is finished with a cold blast of water). Skin treatments are based on four principles: conscious beauty, holistic health, deep relaxation and skin rebirth.

When your stomach starts to rumble, head to one of seven eateries, including an international buffet, two poolside grills and a sushi bar. None of the restaurants require advance reservations, and the all-inclusive package covers all. You can relax knowing you can dine at any venue, including formal spots — like Italian-inspired Portofino and seafood-focused Oceana — without shelling out extra cash.

All-inclusive rates at Secrets Lanzarote Resort & Spa start at 367 euros ($386) per night, based on double occupancy.

If you're visiting northern Italy, consider a stay at Excelsior Dolomites Life Resort. All 65 rooms and suites here have king-size beds plus balconies or terraces, so you can take in sweeping views of the surrounding mountains even as you relax in bed.

A highlight of this Alpine resort is its wellness facilities. Within the property's Sky Spa complex, you'll find an outdoor infinity pool and an indoor pool (both of which are heated), several saunas, an inhalation grotto (with carefully heated air filled with finely dissolved Himalayan salt to aid circulation) and an aromatic steam bath, among other amenities. Plus, you can indulge in several treatments ranging from massages and facials to manicures and pedicures.

Families will love taking advantage of the kids clubs — one of which has a cinema for watching age-appropriate movies. The all-inclusive package covers activities in these clubs, archery lessons in summer and the use of sleds in winter.

Since guests typically come and go during their stays, food is offered buffet-style throughout the day. At night, the culinary offerings shift to gourmet four-course dinners with vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and low-calorie options available.

All-inclusive rates at Excelsior Dolomites Life Resort start at 330 euros ($347) per night, based on double occupancy.

With 560 impressive rooms, this Turkish resort is more like a small town than a hotel. There are plenty of amenities to cater to the 1,000-plus guests who can stay there at a time. Some include a family-friendly water park, a 104,000-square-foot main pool and a private stretch of sand measuring nearly 108,000 square feet.

The resort even offers VIP helicopter transfers with seating for up to six passengers if you want to splurge on a memorable sightseeing opportunity.

Unsurprisingly, dining options are abundant. Guests can choose from 14 different venues, such as restaurants specializing in Turkish, Greek, Indian, Italian and Asian fare. Grab-and-go spots with snacks like pastries, ice cream and fruit are also available.

Regarding accommodations, rooms and suites here look much like what you'd expect to find in a Turkish palace. Fabrics with ornate patterns and rich colors cover the beds and windows; gold light fixtures and other accessories add an extra touch of upscale elegance. Standard amenities include minibars, smart TVs, desks and furnished balconies overlooking the resort grounds, main pool or the Mediterranean Sea.

All-inclusive rates at Titanic Mardan Palace start at 218 euros ($229) per night, based on double occupancy. The resort has a three-night minimum for all stays.

Wait until you see the swimming pool at this luxury adults-only resort on the Greek island of Kos.

The 500-foot-long crystal clear pool is one of the longest and most spectacular pools you will find anywhere in the Mediterranean, and many guest rooms enjoy direct access to the pool from their private terrace. All guest rooms are at least 280 square feet with daily housekeeping and turndown service.

If you tire of the enormous main pool, guests at TUI Blue Palazzo Del Mare can enjoy direct access to the crystal-clear waters of the Aegean Sea; the property provides sun loungers, umbrellas and waiter service. For an additional fee, the resort will organize windsurfing, kite surfing, stand-up paddleboarding and scuba diving.

The vibe here is peaceful, relaxing and sophisticated.

Nightly entertainment includes live musical performances, themed dance shows and a large outdoor cinema showing Hollywood classics. While there is only one restaurant on the property, the cuisine changes daily, with nightly themed dinners including Italian, Mexican, Asian and Greek.

While the property has everything you need, the nearby Kos Old Town has traditional architecture (even a castle), Roman ruins and cobbled streets to wander through, framed by blooming bougainvillea plants. Duck into a local taverna for a traditional gyros and a cold Greek beer. Head up to Zia for a spectacular sunset view before returning to the resort.

All-inclusive rates at TUI Blue Palazzo Del Mare start at 302 euros ($318) per night, based on double occupancy. This resort has a five-night minimum for all stays.

Zoetry Mallorca, in the dreamy Balearic Islands, is made for twosomes seeking a romantic getaway. Though it's a bit removed from the island's beautiful beaches, the former farmhouse wows with its traditional stone structures, which feature charming details like large arches and ivy-covered facades.

You'll find 90 rooms and suites overlooking the countryside inside the spectacular character-filled property. The design of the accommodations matches the old-world exterior of the hotel, with each room type varying slightly in its appearance. For example, some rooms feature four-poster beds draped in white linens, while others have ornate chandeliers and decorative stone fireplaces original to the farmhouse. All come with modern essentials like minibars, coffee makers and flat-screen TVs.

Dining options aren't as abundant here as at mega all-inclusive resorts. Still, the two on-site restaurants serve plenty of tasty dishes to keep you full throughout your stay, with alfresco dining under the Balearic sky. Rather than lining up at a stereotypical buffet, you can savor fresh Mediterranean-influenced dishes sourced from the hotel's garden and local markets. Should you crave more variety, a third venue with fusion fare is also on the way.

Other amenities include two outdoor pools, a private running track and a fitness center. Also, the on-site Pure Spa draws inspiration from the five senses and houses facilities like eucalyptus-scented Turkish baths and ice fountains.

There is an astonishing number of facilities at this megaresort on Crete. There are 16 different swimming pools, a private beach, a spa, one of the largest open-air movie theaters in Europe and outdoor sports courts (for everything from tennis to basketball to miniature golf) — all under the Mediterranean sun.

Food and beverage options are plentiful, too. You'll have your pick of a dozen eateries, including Pithos Restaurant, which specializes in organic Cretan cuisine. Estia Restaurant, a Mediterranean-influenced buffet, also serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. The resort is also introducing a couple of new establishments in 2023 that will serve seafood and Cretan barbecue. All these venues come in addition to 10 bars offering caffeinated beverages, frozen poolside concoctions and more.

Accommodations are abundant. The 680 rooms, suites and villas are decorated in white with pops of color in the throw pillows, artwork and other decorative items. Additionally, they are equipped with air conditioning, minibars that get restocked weekly, coffee makers and 50-inch smart TVs.

All-inclusive rates at Creta Maris Resort start at 228 euros ($240) per night, based on double occupancy.

Sitting almost 6,000 feet above sea level in southeastern France, the 433-room Club Med Les Arcs Panorama earns its name from the spectacular views it offers of the Les Arcs ski area. Bourg-Saint-Maurice's mountain is ideal for people learning to ski, so many come to this Club Med outpost to try a new sport. The apres ski scene and hospitality of this true mountain town also attract visitors.

The resort's all-inclusive rates include all meals and drinks, kids club access (for guests between the ages of 4 and 17), lift passes, locker service and lessons. Yoga classes for adults and children are also available, and there's a heated indoor pool for year-round enjoyment.

After working up an appetite on the slopes, The White Stone restaurant serves both local bites and dishes with international flavors; the restaurant has a large terrace and multiple dining rooms with floor-to-ceiling windows, so you'll have incredible views of the mountains no matter where you sit.

There's also a lounge with a wine cellar and bar, the casual L'Arolla bar and an indoor-outdoor lounge only accessible to guests staying in Exclusive Collection Space accommodations.

Rooms and suites at the Club Med Les Arcs Panorama feature traditional mountain-style decor with a contemporary twist. For example, you'll find pine wood accents, white walls (one of which has a faint silver tree mural), bold pink or yellow pillows, throw blankets and curtains. Standard amenities include flat-screen TVs and desks. Upgraded Exclusive Collection Space suites include access to a private ski storage area and concierge services.

All-inclusive rates at the Club Med Les Arcs Panorama start at 469 euros ($491) per night, based on double occupancy. The resort has a seven-night minimum for all stays in summer.

Enjoy afternoon tea in London

Sample over 300-years of history in the simplicity of homemade scones with whipped cream and jam. This deliciously British treat is best enjoyed in the afternoon, complete with a hot cup of Earl Grey, cucumber sandwiches and a tower of sugary delights.

Explore ancient Athens

You don't need to be a historian to appreciate the significance of Athens. Your love affair with the city might begin with goddess Athena’s Parthenon temple and the ruins of Acropolis, but it’s likely to end in a quaint alleyway getting a glimpse at daily life in this ancient capital. The story of Athens continues to unfold.

Catch a flamenco show in Spain

Discover the soul-stirring emotion of a Flamenco show in Spain. This expressive art-form has an intangible cultural heritage recognised by UNESCO, merging song, dance and musical instruments into a performance that has to be experienced at least once. Finish with dinner of paella or tapas to round off your perfect evening.

View the Northern Lights in Iceland

Mother Nature’s wonders come to life with the Aurora Borealis or ‘Northern Lights’. In the frosty landscapes of Iceland, this light display offers viewers a genuine pinch-me moment as vivid colours dance across the night sky.

Spend a night at the opera in Vienna

Hear the talents of traditional opera with the ghosts of Mozart and Strauss in your presence. Though there are more than few places to catch the opera in Vienna, none can compare to the State Opera House (Staatsoper).

Our top 5 things to do in Europe & Britain

There are endless pinch-me moments to be found across the many countries that make up the continent of Europe. But where to even begin? Perhaps a Flamenco show in Spain, afternoon tea in London or a Northern Lights viewing in frosty Iceland? Here are some of the highlights of our Europe and Britain trips that you're sure to love.

Paris, France

The world’s largest gallery and the home of Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, the Louvre is without rival in the art world and is a must see when in Paris. Allow an entire day to explore its eight departments, not missing the Egyptian antiquities, Islamic art and various halls of sculptures. End your day with sunset by the Louvre Pyramid.

London, England

The British Museum

With some eight million works within its permanent collection, The British Museum is an illustrious European landmark. Admire objects brought back from the voyages of Captain James Cook and walk in the controversial presence of the Parthenon Marbles.

Florence, Italy

Uffizi Gallery

The Tuscan capital is home to Uffizi Gallery, where the brushworks of art’s true masters can be found. Names like Raffaello, Leonardo, and Michelangelo fill Uffizi’s grand pink walls, whilst internal courtyards leading to the Arno River reveal the building’s architectural brilliance.

Best museums in Europe & Britain

When traveling Europe with Trafalgar, museum hopping is one of the best ways to understand the culture and history of the places you visit. You’ll find yourself critiquing ancient art and staring in awe at some of the world’s most prominent works. Here are some of our favorites.

Paella Valenciana

Saffron, snails, butterbeans and bomba rice are just some of the ingredients you might find in traditional Spanish paella. Despite originating from the coastal town of Valencia, Paella Valenciana is a variety without seafood. You'll love sitting back to enjoy a steaming plate over the sounds of Spanish jazz in a lively alfresco restaurant.

Beef Stroganoff

Now a staple dish in many parts of the world, beef stroganoff is best enjoyed in its birthplace in Russia with a vodka in hand. This simple dish of beef strips sauteed in a sour cream sauce offers a heart-warming taste of this country’s culinary heritage.

Bouillabaisse

The Mediterranean city of Marseille is where a French culinary icon can be found and devoured. The fragrant stew of bouillabaisse, commonly served with crusty white bread, boils up the finest local seafood and seasonal vegetables with the flavors of fennel, saffron and cayenne pepper.

Best food in Europe & Britain

Our trips to Europe gravitate around indulgent local mealtimes. With new cuisines and cooking methodologies found at every turn, this continent is simply delicious.

What to pack for Europe

People packing for a tour

With such a large expanse of space to explore, on some days, long journeys are unavoidable. The scenery will provide plenty of visual entertainment, while headphones can be used to listen to some local music or enjoy podcasts about European history, culture and politics when you're not enjoying the storytelling from your Travel Director.

A good book

Exploring Europe is best done at a relaxed pace with ample opportunity to absorb your surroundings. Dedicate a few days to sitting in a park or a cafe, alternating between reading and watching the world go by.

Versatile shoes

Within the space of one outing you may experience all kinds of terrain when in Europe. Pack shoes that can see you walking from an elegant restaurant to a cobbled footpath, with a stroll along the soft grass of a park in between.

A blank journal

With the wealth of inspiration tucked into every corner of Europe, you may find yourself compelled to write down notes or memories. At the very least to share recommendations with friends when you return home.

All climate clothing

No matter the time of year you travel, Europe can deliver a myriad of temperatures. From frosty cities of Scandinavia to the temperate hills of Portugal, layered clothing best suits the varying micro-climates across this continent.

Europe Vacation Packages: Memories Await

Visiting Europe? Welcome to a continent that’s rich in history and modern charisma. Whether you’re traveling solo, with family , or friends, Europe offers countless opportunities to mesmerize you. With easy access to so many diverse countries and cultures, you can wine and dine in the hills of Tuscany one day, and dance the Sardana through the streets of Barcelona the next. Bathe in the baths of Budapest or marvel in the beauty of the Northern Lights in Iceland. There are endless experiences, and Liberty Travel has just the right vacation packages to make it a trip you’ll never forget.

Map of European countries and cities

Europe at a Glance

European countries welcome almost a half-billion international visitors per year. Not only is it the most popular destination for Americans traveling overseas, it’s also the easiest, thanks to:

 • an open borders policy
 • efficient travel infrastructure
 • a common currency, Euro (€) in most of the individual countries

Traveling to Europe is quite simple for American citizens as a visa is not required for countries of the European Union and/or the 26 countries that fall under the Schengen Area (your Liberty Travel consultant will be happy to assist you with this). Once you land in any of these countries, your passport is stamped, leaving you free to travel across borders—so you can go from London to Paris to Netherlands seamlessly. Trains, budget airlines, and cars are the most popular ways to travel around this beautiful continent.

This is part of our global guide to the Best Places to Go in 2024 —find more travel inspiration here .

In considering the best places to go in Europe in 2024, we asked our expert contributors to nominate the destinations that are on the up—either because of a flock of hotel openings, perhaps, murmurings of Michelin arrivals, shiny new museums, or a concerted conservation effort taking root. Across the continent, we heard about a first-time sports events in Italy ; astonishing nature and new glampsites in Scandinavia ; and an unexpected surf scene in France with heightening buzz. There are also classic Greek escapes, which are easier to reach than ever before, and Hungarian cities evolving wholesale in time for major anniversaries.

What follows is an edit of Europe's countries, regions, cities, and neighborhoods that are worthy of your time and attention in 2024—all thoughtfully selected by our editors at Condé Nast Traveller UK and Spain . It's just a fraction of what Europe has on deck in the year ahead, but it's, we feel, the best place to start. Happy travels.

Enjoy the cocktails at August in Antwerp; then head next door for dinner at the new Untitled, which offers rustic dishes from a renowned team.

August and sister property Hotel Julien showcase the effortless cool that characterizes Belgium's most underrated city.

August, and sister property Hotel Julien, showcase the effortless cool that characterizes Belgium's most underrated city.

So often overlooked in favor of its Dutch neighbor Amsterdam —or mistakenly written off as being as staid as Brussels— Antwerp is easily Belgium's most underrated city. In fact, the diamond capital of the world is somewhat of an undiscovered gem, with plenty of cool and culture for a weekend romp. There’s an impressive concentration of Michelin-starred restaurants to rival major European capitals. Perhaps best known is two-star The Jane , which was ranked number 39 in this year's World’s 50 Best Restaurants list and will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2024. If the exquisite 14-course tasting menu htere is out of budget, the restaurant’s sleek new bar, Untitled , which opened earlier this year, offers rustic dishes at a more accessible price point, all lovingly plated before your eyes by chef Joeri Timmermans. After dinner, roll yourself next door to bag a bed at August (a former Augustinian convent turned supremely serene sanctuary), or for a sleepover in the heart of town, sister property Hotel Julien is a design-led favorite. Once you’ve eaten your way through the city’s culinary offerings, walk it all off Zuidpark, an ambitious development set for completion by spring 2024. Pinned to be one of Antwerp’s leafiest havens, the seven-hectare park will have 30,000 plants and several smart water features—all part of the city’s continual effort to be greener. — Gina Jackson

In this lesser-trammeled slice of Spain, rural hotels provide a place to rest your head between days spent hiking and visiting Michelin star restaurants. Talk about balance.

While the pandemic generated a new type of traveler—increasingly nature-loving and environmentally conscious—Asturias did not have to reinvent itself to attract them. The tagline “Asturias, natural paradise,” created almost 40 years ago, represents everything we look for in a getaway. Perhaps that is why this autonomous community is the most dynamic destination in northern Spain; it welcomed more than 2.4 million visitors last year, with more international travelers than ever. The climate also helps: heatwaves are barely noticeable. This is the year to discover its natural spaces, many of them UNESCO Biosphere Reserves , via rejuvenated routes such as the Camino Primitivo, a calmer branch of the popular Camino de Santiago , through some of the country’s least-known regions. Spain’s first rural hotel, La Rectoral de Taramundi , opened here, and other noteworthy addresses include PuebloAstur Eco-Resort in the Picos de Europa mountain range, Ecoboutique’s Solo Palacio and Las Caldas Villa Termal . Alternatively, book into new arrivals Palacio de Figueras from the Vestige Collection or CoolRooms’ Palacio de Luces . The food scene also makes Asturias unmissable. Its “landscape cuisine” rivals that of the Basque Country . There are 11 Michelin stars peppered around the region as well as an emerging culinary movement in the Caudal and Nalón valleys, while chefs such as Natalia Menéndez (Casa Chuchu), Diego García (El Pintu), Paula Lamas and Jairo Rodríguez (Roble), and Xune Andrade (Mont) are on the rise. Regional capital Oviedo is aiming to be the country's Gastronomic Capital for 2024, bringing together more than 200 chefs at the Euro-Toques conference in April. — Clara Laguna

Breathe in the salty air atop the roof terrace at Regina Biarritz, a new opening from the Parisian-born Experimental Group—and added proof that the surf town is having a comeback.

Just over the border from San Sebastián , the French resort town of Biarritz is prepped to step out of the shade of its Michelin-star-studded Spanish Basque counterpart and welcome a new generation of sophisticate. These travelers are booking into its artfully resuscitated Belle Époque hotels, including Experimental’s brand new Regina Biarritz , Unbound’s Hôtel du Palais , and enigmatic indie Villa Magnan (book a table at De Puta Madre and dine with local interior designers and filmmakers). The late 20th century was not kind to this beautiful town on France’s southwestern coast , its dwindling fortunes and faded grandeur standing in stark contrast to its late-19th-century and early-20th-century heyday, when Emperor Napoleon III had his summer palace here, and his Spanish wife Eugénie promoted Biarritz as a health resort. Happily, in-the-know Spanish and French urbanites have rediscovered this delight, lapping up a hip surf scene (Biarritz is one of Europe’s oldest surf destinations, thanks to a bunch of Americans who visited in the 1950s) and fueling a youthful Basque culinary scene, from the thrilling Les Halles covered market to neo-bistro Epoq and Michelin-starred favorites such as L’Impertinent . — Anna Hart

Bodø, Norway

Go for: stargazing, spectacular nature, and can't-miss cultural events

The aurora borealis are one of the biggest draws for those visiting Bodø in winter, but cultural events in 2024 will means days equally full of colorful entertainment.

Bodø’s position on the pristine shores of northern Norway affords it endless days in the glow of the midnight summer sun and shocks of fluorescent light come winter, when the aurora borealis erupt onto the night sky. This small Arctic fishing town is a European Capital of Culture for 2024, which will result in the area’s largest-ever arts program, including about 1,000 events and an influx of people interested in creativity in all its forms. The region’s unique Sámi heritage is championed here, while striking modern expansion is seen in buildings such as the world-class, harbor-fronting Stormen Concert Hall , which can hold 900 people and will form a crucial centerpoint for the celebrations.

Beyond its cultural accolades, Bodø is also the gateway to the ethereal Lofoten Islands . The dramatic landscape of fjords and jagged peaks makes it a perfect playground for adventurers and photographers alike, offering unforgettable, dramatic views. Adding to Bodø’s appeal is its burgeoning food and drinks scene (try Lystpå for dinner and Brødrene Berbusmel Bakery for breakfast) as well as exciting new places to stay. The Wood Hotel will open in 2024, offering the town’s most luxurious lodgings yet, with pared-back Scandi design and floor-to-ceiling windows. For something a little more in tune with nature, try GlampNord .— Rosie Conroy

Budapest, Hungary

As the city of Budapest turns 150, an overwhelming sense of old-meets-new is inspired by historic attractions living alongside just-opened hotels (such as the art deco-inspired W, above) and futuristic buildings (like the House of Music Hungary).

Renowned for its architecture, the Hungarian capital is home to everything from art nouveau and neoclassical to gothic and baroque, with the Blue Danube connecting it all like a ribbon. And then there are the mineral-rich thermal baths, featuring ornate design flourishes. The city also buzzes with creativity, which spills over into the vibrant nightlife; the ruin bars district is a tangible example of crafting opportunity from the ashes of adversity following the brutality of Communist rule. November 2023 marks 150 years since the previously divided cities of Buda, Pest, and Obuda were unified, as well as a series of cultural events. The Chain Bridge—the city’s oldest and a “symbol of togetherness,” according to Mayor Gergely Karácsony—has fully reopened after a two-year restoration, granting excellent views of Buda Castle and the Hungarian Parliament Building. New builds such as the spectacular House of Music Hungary and the National Athletics Centre (the central stadium for 2023’s World Athletics Championships) are testament to a city with optimism for its next 150 years. The art deco W Budapest —formerly a palace and on a UNESCO World Heritage-listed street—opened in July 2023 opposite the Hungarian State Opera. Also in the Marriott portfolio is the Dorothea Hotel , with its 216 rooms and glamorous rooftop restaurant. In keeping with the musical events celebrating the 150th anniversary, the 2022 opening of the Hard Rock Hotel—Eastern Europe’s first—combines musical memorabilia (Prince’s faux-fur coat in a shade of, unsurprisingly, purple) with an in-thick-of-it location on Nagymező Street, Budapest ’s legendary louche entertainment strip. — Sarah Rodrigues

From Studio's food, to fashion ateliers and design houses, Carlsberg is an intentional hub of creative newness in the beloved Danish city.

For 161 years, Copenhagen ’s sprawling Carlsberg brewery held its secrets behind closed gates. When Carlsberg moved away in 2008, a plan was hatched to transform the old site, with its patinaed spires and life-size elephant statues, into a showcase neighborhood. What attracts residents to the emergent Carlsberg District also charms visitors: copious green space, easy public transit, and an evocative mash-up of contemporary and repurposed architecture, anchored by cherry-picked restaurants and shops. At the light-flooded Coffee Collective , they like to serve two roasts at once to contrast the beans’ terroirs. Aamanns , the pioneer of modernized smørrebrød, is also here, along with Neopolitan pizzeria Surt ; Kona , a destination izakaya from former Noma chef Philipp Inrieter, and Studio , by Christoffer Sørensen, a Michelin Best Young Chef. Home designers Carl Hansen and Søn , by Adelborg and PP Møbler have arrived. Fashion’s Henrik Vibskov has also moved in, packing his atelier with kaleidoscopic garments, in contrast with the classic suits of Deerest nearby. In December 2023, the Carlsberg brewery itself springs back to life, with a state-of-the-art, interactive visitors’ center and the revival of its 1847 bar-room. Also to come are Friday summer parties in the courtyard and the unveiling of namesake Carl Jacobsen’s lavish gardens, open to the public for the first time since their 1890 groundbreaking. Afterwards, retire to the windowseat of your room at Hotel Ottilia overlooking the construction cranes. In a city that believes in livable density, you’re witnessing smart urban planning unfold. — Betsy Andrews

After bedding down at Areias de Seixo, hit the world-class waves lining the coast—like those Portugal's World Surfing Reserve in Ericeira.

Not as show-offy as Comporta , much less known than the Algarve and with more surfer vibes than the Costa Vicentina, Costa de Prata (Silver Coast) is the strip of Portugal ’s Atlantic seaboard that we are most excited about right now. Start a south-to-north road trip in Ericeira, where Aethos Hotels opened an outpost in which smart design is combined with laid-back coastal cool at the end of 2022. It was hot on the heels of Immerso , a hotel full of local crafts and the same truly Portuguese personality as new restaurant and beach club Balagan. Heading north, Areias do Seixo continues to be a benchmark for luxury stays on the Costa de Prata, while in Nazaré, where German surfer Sebastian Steudtner rode a world record wave of 86 feet, Ohai Nazaré has family-friendly glamping. A visit to Obidos , one of the most beautiful towns in Portugal , is the perfect excuse to stay at the bohemian Literary Man or, if golf is more your thing, check in at Marriott’s Praia D’El Rey . Along the coast, surfing hub Peniche has standout beaches, including Consolação, and is a great jumping-off point for the Berlengas islands, an increasingly less secret paradise. The road trip ends in Aveiro, known as the Venice of Portugal, where MS Collection Palacete de Valdemouro has just opened under the Small Luxury Hotels banner. There’s no doubt that the Costa de Prata is on track to take gold. — David Moralejo

It will be easy to hop between Kalesma and islands like Mykonos, Santorini, Paros, Milos, and Ios, thanks to new flights to and throughout the dazzling blue archipelago.

Is there anywhere more popular than the Greek islands right now? This past summer, the Cyclades—an island group that includes Mykonos , Santorini , Paros, Milos, and Ios—dominated social-media feeds with beautiful blue and white backdrops, thrilling beach clubs and nightclubs, and unparalleled shopping. With more smart stays being unveiled in 2024, as well as new flights, next summer is the time to make a Cyclades trip happen. Etihad , British Airways , and Saudia added new routes to various Greek islands in 2023, plus the 2022 launch of Cycladic , the first inter-island airline, means it’s easier than ever to get there. Hotel business is booming. Santo Pure in Oia on Santorini has just added 20 new suites, and next year it will be joined by sister hotel Santo Mine, a 37-suite luxury resort. Slick boutique hotel Kalesma on Mykonos will launch its spa for the 2024 season, including a hammam and cryotherapy area. Five-star, 80-acre Gundari Resort will open on Folegandros next May, while a new One&Only property will come to Kea in April. Such plush hotels are rare on these islands, expanding the options for luxury stays in the Cyclades. — Ali Wunderman

Go for: new hiking and biking trails, pristine countryside views

Kosovo's untouched valleys offer the perfect canvas for multi-day hiking and biking trips—like the Trans Dinarica cycling route, opening in 2024, which will wind its way past rivers, markets, and via ferrata setups.

Tiny Kosovo lacks the stunning beaches of Albania and luxury resorts of Montenegro, but Europe’s newest country has sky-scraping peaks, pastoral countryside and heart-warming hospitality, a combination ideal for multi-day hiking and biking trips. 2024 will mark the 25th anniversary since the end of the Kosovo war, and there's much to discover in the region now. Following in the footsteps of cross-border adventure trails such as the Peaks of the Balkans and High Scardus, the Trans Dinarica cycling route opens in 2024, making its way past the minarets framing Prizren’s eponymous river, through the Ottoman market town of Gjakova, and on to Peja. Perched on the edge of the Rugova Gorge, Peja serves as base camp for the country’s many outdoor adventures, including via ferratas and spelunking. A new paved path will soon connect the Lumbardhi River Promenade with the popular Health Trail—the beginning of the south-to-west route through the inaptly named Accursed Mountains. Two additional forthcoming routes connect trails in the Rugova Mountains to the gushing White Drin waterfall and Radac cave. Steps from the waterfall, the sleek, modern Ujëvara e Drinit Resort specializes in rooms with a view and fresh trout dinners. Through-hikers can rest weary bones and fill hungry bellies further from town at rural guesthouses such as Ariu , where traditional Kosovar dishes include flija, made with dairy produced on-site. — Naomi Tomky

The pool and gardens at Ikos Porto Petro, a sleek resort that opened in 2023 in Mallorca, add to the region's hearty roster of luxury stays.

The grande dame of the Mediterranean remains unrivaled thanks to its pitch-perfect brand of low-key luxury, exceptional service, and focus on sustainability. But in recent months, the Balearic island has added even more jewels to its crown; among them is Son Bunyola , Richard Branson’s latest hotel, in the Tramuntana Mountains. Not far from there, in the town of Puigpunyent, the team behind Andalucia’s stellar Finca Cortesin has opened Grand Hotel Son Net in a 17th-century manor house. Also adding to the excitement for 2024 is the slick styling of Ikos Porto Petro , farm-turned-boutique stay The Lodge , and Zel Mallorca —the first Zel hotel is a collaboration between Rafael Nadal and another homegrown big hitter, Meliá. As if that wasn’t enough, there’s also the Four Seasons , which takes over the much-loved Hotel Formentor; Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra; beachfront Aethos ; and Marugal, which has unveiled its second project on the island after Cap Rocat. Meanwhile, S’Arracer del Dimoni hotel will open in Santa Margalida, and Belmond La Residencia will continue its artists-in-residence program and the third edition of art installation Mitico, in collaboration with Galleria Continua. — María Casbas

No longer second-fiddle to France, cycling holidays in Italy are taking off—and the north of the country is where all the action is unfolding in 2024.

For the first time ever, the first three stages of the Tour de France will take place in Italy in 2024, a historic moment for the country, the sport, and the prestigious race. Competitors will saddle up in Florence , head east towards Rimini on the Adriatic Coast , follow the Apennines north through Emilia-Romagna , and complete stage three in Turin . With their truffles and terroirs, Italy’s northern regions are best known for their gastronomic heritage, but two-wheeled pursuits have long been part of the landscape. The 1998 Tour de France champion Marco Pantani was born here, while professional racer Davide Cassani was instrumental in developing the Via Romagna, a nearly 300-mile network of cycling routes throughout the region. Now, tour operators have upped their game in time for the event: Tourissimo’s week-long cycle holiday is designed to provide guests with live-action access to the tour itself, plus the chance to conquer the hills and thrills of Emilia-Romagna. Ride International Tours and Ride Holidays have released new routes to reflect growing interest in the region, while the looping, leisurely route between Parma and Modena by Inn Travel leaves more time for sampling local delicacies along the way. Those more comfortable on four wheels will find the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix and the annual Motor Valley Fest , both in May, irresistible—this is the birthplace of Maserati, Ferrari, and Lamborghini after all—while those who prefer life in the slow lane can board new railway routes between Turin and Canelli with Fondazione FS ’s 1930s carriages or take Nightjet ’s overnighter from Verona to Liguria (via Milan and Genoa ). Make a final pit stop in Pesaro to find out why it’s been crowned the Italian Capital of Culture for 2024. — Anna Prendergast

The Abbey Inn is the latest Yorkshire opening from local foodie hero Tommy Banks—and with three luxurious bedrooms launched in summer 2023, you won't have to travel far after indulging at one of the many Michelin-star restaurants in the area.

For a bewitching break in 2024, go north. Yorkshire-born sculptor Henry Moore once said: “The observation of nature is part of an artist’s life.” And Yorkshire has some of the most seductive nature: sweeping landscapes like living oil paintings; undulating dales and peaks; deep-forested moors with big skies; heady lavender fields; lofty woodlands filled with birdsong; and golden sandy sweeps skirting the peppermint-blue sea. The Brontës’ romanticism is not lost. In 2024, go stargazing in Yorkshire’s national parks at the magical Dark Skies Festival . The Yorkshire Balloon Fiesta will return to its new home at Castle Howard in 2024, with rainbow-bright, early-morning mass balloon flights and night glows. There were plenty of Michelin mentions for the county in 2023, with keen eyes on the 2024 list, so restaurants with rooms are ramping up. Just up the road from The Black Swan in Oldstead, Michelin-lauded chef Tommy Banks’ latest outpost, The Abbey Inn , opened in May and its three luxurious bedrooms, care of Tommy’s mother, were launched in July. For the ultimate culinary sleepover, stay two nights and eat at both restaurants. Newbie Mýse , helmed by chef-and-sommelier couple Joshua and Victoria Overington, is a petite restaurant with rooms set among caramel-colored cottages in the sleepy village of Hovingham. Book in for its creative tasting menu, then retire upstairs to one of the cosy-cool rooms. In June, Middleton Lodge , a sustainable luxury retreat bordering the Yorkshire Dales National Park, launched the Forest Spa in the heart of a serenely wooded estate. Don’t pass by honeycomb-hued Helmsley, with its emerging culinary scene and the recent opening of Pignut —a restaurant with a sustainable focus and impressive casual and tasting-menu options. Expect plenty more magic in 2024. — Rachel Everett

7 Busiest Airports in Europe

Posted: March 3, 2024 | Last updated: March 3, 2024

Fly from Fort Lauderdale to Orlando

If you’re planning a European trip this summer, then something you are probably thinking about is which is the best airport to fly into.

A good way to know which airports are offering the best deals is how many people passengers the airport is transporting each year and the size of the airport.

The bigger and busier the airport, the more planes can land and take off, which means cheaper flights (usually).

Another interesting thing to take into account is that just because a city has a bigger population doesn’t always mean that they have the biggest airport. So today I’m going to be ranking the biggest and busiest airports in Europe for all you plane fanatics and fellow travelers out there.

best travel packages europe

7. Barcelona El Prat Airport

 • 49.9 million passengers in 2023
 • 5.9 square miles

The Barcelona El Prat Airport dates back to 1916, when a small military airport was built where the airport stands today. This airport is a great place to fly into if you are looking to explore Spain starting from the east side of the country.

The city of Barcelona is one of the best cities in Europe. It’s right on the beach and the city’s old town is like something out of a fairytale. Some of the top tourist destinations in Barcelona are the Sagrada Familia, Gothic Quarter, and Park Güell.

6. Frankfurt am Main Airport

 • 59.4 millon passengers in 2023
 • 8.9 square miles

The Frankfurt Airport opened in 1912 and by 1936 was known as a “world airport”. An interesting fact about this airport is that Frankfurt is Germany’s fifth-largest city but has Germany’s largest airport.

Frankfurt is a great place to fly into because it is cheaper than the other airports in the country and is right in the center of Germany. This way you can fly in and then take a train or bus to either the north or south of the county, depending on what your preferences are.

Some of the best things to do in Frankfurt are the Städel Museum, Palm Gardens, and walk across the Iron Footbridge.

The Madrid Airport was built in 1933 and was named after the Spanish politician Adolfo Suárez. Madrid is the capital city of Spain and is very centrally located.

Some of the things in Madrid that can’t be missed are El Retiro Park, Plaza Mayor, and the Mercado de San Miguel. Madrid is known for its nightlife, so if you like to party, then this is the place for you!

4. Amsterdam-Schiphol Airport

 • 10.8 square miles

Speaking of partying, Amsterdam is definitely number one on this list of top party cities. There’s not much that’s illegal here, so if you really want to go wild, this is the place to do it.

However, there are lots of other things that Amsterdam is famous for that have nothing to do with partying, such as the Anne Frank House, the Royal Palace of Amsterdam, and the beautiful canal-lined streets.

This airport is just 5.6 miles from the city center and can easily be accessed by train or even bike! Another fact about this airport is that it’s actually about 13 feet below sea level.

3. Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport

 • 68.3 million passengers in 2023
 • 12.5 square miles

With about 1,500 flights taking off and landing here each day, this is the third busiest airport in Europe. Paris is one of the most visited places on the planet, so I’m surprised that it isn’t higher up on the list.

Paris is known for the Eiffel Tower (of course), The Louvre (duh), and the Notre-Dame Cathedral (yeah, we know). It’s also famous for its many bakeries, cafes, and French restaurants around the city. Paris is usually the cheapest place to fly into in France and, in my opinion, the most beautiful city on this list.

76.2 million passengers in 2023

29.5 square miles

This airport was a surprise to me. I Traveled to Europe for a Week With Just a Carry-on Thanks to This Flight Attendant-approved Packing Hack

It saved the day when my suitcase wouldn't close.

Travel + Leisure

As someone who typically prefers to travel with just a carry-on , I’ve tried pretty much every packing hack to fit as much as possible into my suitcase. A glance inside will uncover shirts wound around hair tools, socks stuffed into shoes, and dresses tightly rolled into every crevice. I’ve become so confident in my ability to stuff a suitcase that I’ve typically been skeptical of packing cubes — that is, until my last Europe trip.

You see, when I was recently packing for a near-week-long London trip, my usual methods weren’t cutting it. Despite planning out my outfits for every day and night of the trip, my carry-on suitcase was overflowing. I decided to try packing with the flight attendant-approved Gonex Compression Packing Cubes and much to my delight, everything that I’d laid out to pack now fit in my carry-on.

Gonex Compression Packing Cubes

Apart from their space-saving magic, I’m impressed by how easy Gonex packing cubes are to use. They open from the top, allowing you to stuff in as many clothes as possible (which trust me, I did), and close it like a pouch. Then, you simply push down on the cubes and use an extra zipper to manually compress them. All together, it’s extremely satisfying to witness in action. I have the pink packing cubes, but they come in 12 styles total, including more neutral colors and a fun floral pattern that I’m tempted to order myself.

They're sold in two sets depending on your packing needs. The first is a three-pack , which features a large (14.5 inches by 10.6 inches), medium (11.8 inches by 8.9-inches), and small (9.8 inches by 7.5 inches) packing cube. I opted for the four-piece set that includes one 17.3-inch by 13-inch extra-large pouch, plus the large, medium, and small packing cubes. The brand recommends that you pack larger items like jeans and sweaters into the larger cubes while the smaller sizes can be used for socks and underwear.

All four cubes are designed to fit together into your carry-on like a puzzle. However, my personal favorite way to use them is to start with the extra-large cube and work my way down if I feel I need more space. I’ve found that the largest cube fits perfectly into one side of my go-to Away bigger carry-on .

The Gonex packing cubes have more than 5,000 five-star ratings at Amazon with reviewers praising their high quality and durability. They’re made with waterproof, lightweight nylon to alleviate some of your common travel conundrums: if liquid leaks into your bag, you don’t have to worry about it getting on your clothes, and the cubes won’t make your suitcase heavier. Each pouch also has a durable handle to make it easier to pull in and out of your suitcase. I was also excited to discover that my clothes didn't wrinkle any more than usual inside of the packing cubes, since they are packed so tightly together.

I recently put the packing cubes to the test once again — here’s what my suitcase looked like before using them:

Travel + Leisure / Rebecca Shinners

But, once I packed everything into the Gonex packing cubes, I was left with more empty space. This ended up being the perfect spot to tuck my shoes so I wouldn’t have to worry about them getting dirt on my clothes. And just imagine how much more I was able to fit into my suitcase once I convinced my puppy to move.

I was so impressed with the packing cubes that I raved about them to my family and friends, and my brother already ordered them in blue for his next trip. Amazon reviewers have called them everything from their “ favorite packing necessity ” to “ rockstars ," and many of their fans are flight attendants.

One wrote , "They are great space savers and make it possible for me to pack for a four-day trip to frigid destinations without having to bring an extra bag." Chiming in, a second flight attendant shared , "I routinely pack for a week in the medium bag only. If I used all four bags, I could pack enough to last months."

Another reviewer said the cubes were “worth every penny” after using them to pack everything they needed for two weeks in Europe in a carry-on bag, and a traveler added , “The compression feature allowed me to overpack and still get everything neatly tucked into my suitcase." They made sure to note that the zippers still worked smoothly no matter how much they overstuffed the pouches.

It’s safe to say that I’m no longer a packing cube skeptic. After my London trip, I’m now more confident than ever in my ability to pack in just a carry-on for my upcoming trips. I even just booked an economy ticket to Paris to avoid checked bag fees. Whether you’re looking to skip checking a bag like me or just want to fit more into your suitcase, you won’t regret ordering the Gonex Compression Packing Cubes for your next trip. Read on for more carry-on packing essentials from Amazon.

Europe Explorer Grand Tour “Dacia Route”

This was an amazing adventure that we waited for 2 1/2 years after canceling twice because of Covid restrictions. As a reference point, we are seasoned travelers who have visited 73 countries. The trip was well worth the wait as we traveled through 6 countries that are full of history, ancient and modern sites, culture, and interesting people. There is a lot of time in the vehicle as expected as you travel through these countries in only 14 days. Each day was full of interesting sites and history. The Balkans have been very important for civilization for thousands of years as they are the crossroad between Asia and Europe and have always been valuable territory that has been fought over for thousands of years. We learned about the accomplishments and conflicts that still exist today. We even saw history in the making in Macedonia and Bulgaria. Albania Explorer is an excellent company that over delivered on their promise of a great trip. Alma was always available to answer all our questions promptly. All of their travel arrangements were perfect with no problems. We could not have had a better guide than Seimer who shared an enormous amount of information at every stop. He even surprised us with some excellent unplanned stops. We now consider him our friend. We hope to have the opportunity to travel with Albania Explorer and Seimer again some day.

Great diversity of countries and cities but WAY too fast paced. One night in Slovenia and Poland was ridiculous and with travel time some days we spent less than 15 hours in the city. The guide was a but inexperienced so we didn't have a good description of some of the cities. Great way to make friends and see cities! Would recommend going end of August or later as it was still very hot going through the cities!!

Best of Central Europe

It was my very first Intrepid trip and I enjoyed every moment of it. It was more than I expected! I loved the chemistry of the group (I miss them dearly), the accommodation location as well as the included activities. Being in a small group also has a lot of advantages like getting to know each of them personally and build friendships even after the trip. I was just so glad I took the trip through Intrepid!

Mike was an excellent guide, informative, very knowledgeable and flexible with the itinerary when necessary

Baltic Experience Tour

Baltic Experience

The Baltic Experience tour was a lot of fun! Our Tour Leader, Agata, was superb! The small tour size (we had six participants) meant we got to know each other well. The tour had a perfect mix of planned group activities and time to explore the sites on our own. The on-line tour description was accurate and extensive. Three cautions: Travel insurance is MANDATORY, somewhat expensive, and not included in the tour price. Many, like me, will commit to the tour not knowing this additional cost will be tacked on. Second, the tour sometimes involves significant walking (up to 30 minutes) from transportation facilities to hotels while carrying your own bags (two weeks of baggage), as well as walking tours that sometimes involve climbing as many as 800 steps. This is a tour for fairly young and fit participants. Finally, European hotels and home-stay facilities generally don't have air conditioning or screened windows, meaning sometimes in the summer you will have to choose between sleeping in hot, stuffy rooms or opening the windows for mosquitoes to enter. All that said, this was a thoroughly enjoyable and memorable experience and I would highly recommend it for fit, adventurous people with positive attitudes who can tolerate occasional less-than-luxurious accommodations.

The Balkan Adventure Tour -12 days/11 nights from Skopje Tour

The Balkan Adventure Tour -12 days/11 nights from Skopje

We loved the hikes; only wished they could have been longer. We wish we didn't have to spend so much time driving, but we understand that there is no other way to see so many things in so few days. We would have liked to spend more time in Sarajevo. Don't schedule Nis for a Monday since the best sites are closed on Monday. Overall, it was a great introduction to the history and natural beauty of the Balkans, but be prepared for a lot of driving.

Balkan Experience – seven countries in two weeks - SMALL GROUP Tour

Balkan Experience – seven countries in two weeks - SMALL GROUP

I have just completed the 7 countries in 14 days tour with Victor Tours. There was a great mix of being shown the important tourist spots and giving you some free time to explore for yourself. The tour guide Theodor was a breath of fresh air. He was inciteful, helpful and knowledgeable during the tour. He answered all questions honestly, especially around some sensitive subjects. We had breakfast at all the hotels that was substantial. The accommodation, because we moved around ranged from tremendous to very good. Not one hotel was lacking. It has given me an improved understanding and knowledge of the area, their problems both past and present. The tour gives you a great start on all the 7 countries and if you want to explore them more you then have a starting point. My favorite countries were Serbia, Bosnia and Macedonia, which I will be exploring further. Alexander and his team, from Victor Tours was tremendous in his assistance both before the tour and during it. There were no 'hick ups' at all. I would recommend Victor Tours and this particular tour to anyone who want to travel to these countries. Thanks again Alexander and Theodor for the great memories.

Magic Carpet Tour

The tour was excellent. The only suggestions I have would be to ask the group if they want to see the places that were not on the itinerary, such as the jewelery store, ceramic store, etc. No one in our group purchased anything there and it was a waste of time. It would have been better to have more free time in the town we were staying in. Also, some of the lunch stops had very limited food choices and were expensive. Tamer was an excellent guide. He was very knowledgeable, personable and always made the best interests of the group a priority.

Turkish Breeze-10 Days Tour

Turkish Breeze-10 Days

Took the full 10 day tour with my wife including istanbul, izmir, Pamukkale, Antalya and cappadocia. Cannot thank them enough. Incredibly well organized and professional. We even booked the night before the tour started and they set up everything for you so you don't have to think. The guides are as knowledgeable as anyone can hope for. Tour guide in Izmir was especially excellent, telling me about fake coins, coming up with solutions for bugs, getting my money back on a bad drink, etc. Overall, they go out of their way to accommodate your situation best they can and it's not easy to organize these complex trips with multiple planes, etc. The reviews here were right: if you want a thought-free trip, these guys are the way to go. Only feedback is timing at each place. Everything is incredibly tight so be prepared to not spend as much time in certain places as you wish. Definitely be ready to be always moving. It feels like there's never a chance to breathe from all the activities and travel. I would recommend spacing certain things out ESPECIALLY Pammakule waterfalls which is arguably everyone's favorite thing. Felt like I got 30 min to be there, which is not right to the guests But overally, it's hard to plan a cross country tour for everyone, and they do an amazing job taking you safely step by step through a lovely vacation. You will totally unwind your brain with them.

Central Europe Group Rail Tour (18-35)

I am so happy I took this trip! I love that there is a planned activity in each city but you also get free days to explore on your own or with new friends. Every city was stunning and I met some great people as well. The thing that made me want to leave a review the most was honesty our tour leader , Cristina was a delight and a perfect balance for our group. She made this trip more memorable then I could have imagined and had great tips for each city too!!!!! Truly an unforgettable experience I would highly recommend. I wish I did the whole Europe tour instead of just central Europe.

Reviews of Small Group tours to Europe

Wonderful tour of Balkans! Montenegro, Bosnia, Kosovo, and Albania were new to us. Each day was well planned with interesting sites to explore: old historic centers/ museums/ castles/ churches/ mosques/ markets. Hotels were well located and offered delicious breakfasts. Fabio our guide and driver was excellent and taught us the history of all the sights that we visited. We will recommend this tour to family and friends.
