Is there a Cruise Control Work Around?
- Add to quote
I have a 2004 QX and the cruise control doesnt work. When I turn it on the word "Cruise" lights up in Orange and Green on the cluster. My mechanic thisnks there is a problem with the ICC Intelligent Cruise Control. Can I jump that out (as I never use it) and just use plain old cruise control? Any thoughts?
Did you get anything in writing from the used dealer about what he would and would not fix? If so, stick it to him and make him fix it.
Work Around for ICC found..I think... A local aftermarket installer quoted me a price of $550 to install and warranty an aftermarket drive by wire cruise control kit. I am heading there today for him to spec it out and determine the right kit. The used car dealer is agreeing to pay for 50% of this instead of the none of the $1500 the Infinity dealer wanted. If this all goes well ill post some pics and a full review on the work-around.
Update As it turns out the after-market solution is not compatible with the QX56 drive by wire system. In a last ditch effort I was removing the laser sensor to give to my cousin (elect engineer). As it turns out I found one wire that was cut/broken on the vehicle harness side of the laser connector. I soldered that back up and now the cruise works perfectly!! Two independent shops and my local Infinity dealer all missed that some how.
cruise uncontrol where did you find the broken wire??i have the same problem
If you follow the wire on the laser unit it will come to a connector. When I pulled that connector apart from underneath the truck I saw that the truck side of the connector has 4 wires going into the plug and one was broken right near the base of the plug. It was very tight to solder because i had no room to work. I had to carefully strip the wires with a razor blade to expose enough good copper. But once it was connected again the cruise worked.
Also, if you hold down the on button for the cruise for more than 1.5 sec only the green light will light up and the cruise will work like normal cruise control.
Cruise Control Help Hello all - I'm brand new to the forum as I just purchased a 2004 QX56 4x4. So far I love the truck, though on the 2 hour drive home with it I found out the cruise control wasn't working in the same manner as described in this thread. So here is what I have figured out so far: 1. Pressing and holding the on/off button for 1.5 sec to bypass the ICC sensor trick doesn't work. 2. I used the power of google and found the maintenance manual and started working through it - http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/QX56/2004_QX56/acs.pdf 3. Performing the self diagnostic described on ACS-32 I initially got the following codes: 12 VDC CONTROL UNIT ×××× ● VDC malfunction ● Brake booster signal harness is open or shorted 20 CAN COMM CIRCUIT ×××× ● ICC unit detected CAN communication 43 VDC/TCS/ABS CIRC ×××× ● VDC/TCS/ABS system malfunction I ventured to the rear of the vehicle and reseated the connector to the ICC and re-ran the self diagnostic and got the following codes: 12 and 20, but no more 43 and in its place: 103 LASER SENSOR FAIL ×× × ● ICC sensor internal malfunction I attempted to use the diagnostic code reset procedure shown on ACS 33, but it would not display 55. I also attempted swapping a T/F relay with the VDC relay in the fuse box and got no different result. Has anyone dealt with gremlins like this before or know of some more steps to try before I start ripping into the vehicle? End state, I'd like to at least be able to use standard cruise. In an ideal world the ICC would work fully, but I'm not going to lose my mind over it. Thanks in advance, Tim
Tim,the work around trick (holding the on switch down for 11/2 second) or until the cruise light glows on, then you must press set only once to set the speed you want. If you press any other button other than SET once it not work. If it fails to work you must start over by turning the ignition switch off, then do it right as described the next time. After you get it set the first time it will continue to work as normal until the ignition switch is turned off. Then you must revert back to holding the cruise on switch procedure. My 2009 infinity works perfectly this way and the intelligent cruise eye is unplugged. Good Luck, Poppy
I had a bad ECU and switch that caused the ICC not to work. Not cheap to fix, but the ECU repair had to be done.

Checking and Replacing Fuses
Fuses, fusible links, and circuit breakers protect your vehicle’s electrical system from overloading. If any electrical equipment in your vehicle does not operate, the system may have been overloaded and blown a fuse or tripped a circuit breaker. Before you replace or repair any electrical parts, check the appropriate fuses or circuit breakers.
- Be sure the ignition switch is pushed to the OFF or LOCK position and the headlight switch is turned to OFF.
- Open the fuse box cover.
- Remove the fuse with the fuse puller. The fuse puller is located in the center of the fuse block in the passenger compartment.
- To check a fuse, look at the silver-colored band inside the fuse. If the band is broken or melted, replace the fuse. Spare fuses are stored in the passenger compartment fuse box.
- If the fuse is open, replace it with an equivalent good fuse.
- If a new fuse also opens, have the electrical system checked and repaired by an INFINITI dealer.
In case if the electrical equipment does not operate and the fuses are in good condition, check the fusible links. In case if any of these fusible links are melted, replace them with only genuine Nissan parts.
- Never use a fuse of a higher or lower amperage rating than that specified on the fuse box cover. This could damage the electrical system or cause a fire.
- Always disconnect the battery before servicing high current fuses.
- Never replace a broken fuse with anything other than a new fuse. Use always an intact fuse of the same color.

This luxury SUV was produced in the United States from 2004 to 2010. For the North American market, two modifications were provided - with rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. The marker lamps of the off-road vehicle are impressive: only in length it "stretched" by 5.25 meters, the width is more than two meters (to be precise, 2019 mm), and only one millimeter does not reach two meters in height (1999 mm). The car can comfortably accommodate up to eight people.

Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC)
- Add to quote
after running through the test on the gauge cluster i noticed a light i never saw before, it resembled something along the lines of an adaptive cruise control after much research i figured out that its actually Infiniti's Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) that is being shown in the display. going through the QX56 service manual it appears that with some modifications it is possible to add this to the Nissan Titan. However the control unit and sensor is now the major setback i just got quoted from an online part dealer for just those two parts: ICC Laser Sensor - 28437-7S615 - $783 ICC Unit - 18995-ZE10C - $768 has anyone else looked at doing this or can get these parts cheaper (junkyard)
Can you explain what exactly the ICC system does? I can't possibly fathom it being worth $1000 under any circumstances.
Fromt the QX56 Owner's Manual: The Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) system automatically maintains a selected distance from the vehicle in front of you according to that vehicle is clear. The ICC function has two cruise control modes: * Vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode for maintaining a selected distance between a vehicle up to the preset speeds. * Conventional (fixed speed) cruise control mode for cruising at preset speeds. In the vehicle-to-vehicle distance control mode, the Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) system automatically maintains a selected distance from the vehicle in front of you according to that vehicle speed, up to the set speed or at the set speed when the road ahead is clear. With ICC, the driver can maintain the same speed as other vehicles without the constant need to adjust the speed as you would with a normal cruise control system. i cant see spending that much to have this feature either, but if the two modules can be found at a junkyard from a wrecker for a couple hundred bucks i would consider putting this into my Titan. I just looked at Infiniti's website and to add this option, Technology Package, to a QX56 would cost $1,150 and includes the addition of front parking sensors. so this can be added for a lot less then was quoted
