Utilizing the finest of seasonal ingredients, our chef serves up a rotating, four-course, prix fixe menu in the intimate dining room and living room. Bed & Breakfast , opens in a new window
The Ski Tip's charm extends from the historic building's exterior to the quaint lodging rooms and the little details that include board games available at the front desk and a ceramic cookie jar filled with house-baked treats. An inviting staff welcomes guests "home" to the cozy rooms. When it comes to rooms, choose from two styles: a private room with queen bed and bathroom or a two-bedroom suite with one queen bed and two twin beds adjoined by a private bathroom. Once the family residence of resort founders Max and Edna Dercum, it's no surprise that the two living rooms, complete with stone fireplaces and hand hewn beams, are perfect for lounging with your morning coffee.
Weddings & Special Events , opens in a new window
The Ski Tip Lodge is available for weddings and special events of various sizes. Whether utilizing the main dining room or our quaint library, your guests will love our award-winning culinary experience and unmatched service.

Meet the chef
Born and raised in Colorado, Chef Kevin Simley fell in love with cooking at an early age. His passion for cooking led him to Johnson and Wales University in Denver, where he was classically trained in culinary arts and restaurant management. After graduating, Chef Kevin explored the Denver culinary scene working at many of the cities top restaurants. Spending much of his childhood skiing and hiking in Summit County, Chef Kevin was drawn to the mountain lifestyle and moved here in 2014 where he has been a part of the Vail Resorts team since. Now, Chef Kevin puts his contemporary twist on the classic Colorado steakhouse using locally sourced and seasonal ingredients.

The staff members were all beyond courteous and kind. The breakfast was delicious and the setting is hard to beat. Drinks on the patio by the pond were lovely.

How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1–10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We're currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate "subscores" in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive info (e.g. emails, phone numbers, credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (i.e. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
Guidelines and Standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

My husband and I came here on a Monday during Christmas week. Make sure you get your reservations early cause it's gets sold out very quickly. Our experience was 5/5. The ambiance was the mountain rustic cozy feel that I love and service was amazing. Our waitress knew a lot about each dish and gave suggestions. It's a 4 course meal and there were 2 options for starter, 2 options for appetizer/salad, 5 options for entree and 4 options for dessert (you choose 1 from each course). My husband and I chose different options for starter and appetizer so we could share. We also got pork chop and king mushroom for our entrees. Our favorite dishes was the pasta/ravioli dish under the appetizer section. It was melt in your mouth delicious. The salad was also very unique and refreshing and a surprising hit. We also loved the king mushroom dish under entree. It was cooked with asparagus and beet puree and everything went together very well.

If you're looking for a memorable dining experience in Keystone, Colorado, Ski Tip Lodge is an excellent choice. From start to finish, my experience at this restaurant was nothing short of exceptional. I'd give Ski Tip Lodge a solid 5-star rating for both their food and service. To start, the pork belly dish that I had was absolutely delicious. The meat was cooked to perfection, and the accompanying sides were well-balanced in flavor and texture. The presentation of the dish was also impressive, which added to the overall dining experience. In terms of service, the staff at Ski Tip Lodge were attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. Our waiter was able to provide recommendations and answer any questions we had about the menu. We also never felt rushed, which allowed us to enjoy our meal at a leisurely pace. The ambiance of Ski Tip Lodge was quaint and cozy, which added to the overall charm of the restaurant. The decor was rustic and fitting for the mountain setting, which made for a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. I highly recommend Ski Tip Lodge for anyone looking for a memorable dining experience in Keystone. The food is top-notch, the service is excellent, and the ambiance is delightful. It's an all-around great choice for a special night out or a celebratory occasion.
This review is strictly for the lodging. We have dined here many times and always wondered about the lodging, so we finally took the plunge and booked a jr suite which is a room with a queen bed adjoined to another room with two twins. Each room had a bathroom which was nice. First the positive: the rooms were charming and historic. Beds were comfy. Filtered water in a glass bottle was a nice touch. There's a lovely outdoor hot tub if you don't mind a little trek. The breakfast was excellent with fresh squeezed oj and good coffee. The fireplace is awesome. And of course the views! Now the negative:There's no tv so a book is a must. Also if there is dinner service, it is quite loud until all the guests have left, which was around 10 pm. The hairdryer did not work. We couldn't adjust the HVAC to a comfortable level. There are no blackout shades so if you're a light sleeper, you're out of luck.

It had been a couple years since our last visit/meal here. We were very impressed with the current chef and wait staff. As always, the soup course shined, and the entrees were fantastic. Lamb lollipops, duck breast, seared Tuna, pork chop and filets were all outstanding. And in Ski Tip fashion, the side dishes were great - and you never leave hungry! We will be back soon
Worth every penny. Service was impeccable and every single bite of food was amazing. I have been lucky enough to have dinner here multiple times and every single time I am blown away by how fabulous the meal is and how amazing the staff is. This is a must go to restaurant.
Unfortunately, Ski Tip has taken a serious step backwards post-COVID. Service was slow despite lots of empty tables - it took about 45 minutes between ordering and our first course. There were also awkward gaps between courses. The restaurant used to have a great somm, but this time they didn't have one despite it being a Saturday night. The food was fine but not exceptional - a carbonara-inspired dish tasted not at all of carbonara, and the puff pastry on a beef wellington was undercooked. The staff had little ability to work around common dietary restrictions, and it seemed like the kitchen had a single dish for each course that had no gluten, no dairy, no meat, as to avoid altering any dishes. Those aren't end-of-the-world issues, but compared to the price point and where they've been in the past, they've fallen well short of their own standards. Ski Tip used to be our #1 recommendation for upscale dining in Summit, but it's certainly fallen off that podium.
We just completed a wonderful dining experience at the Ski Tip Lodge. Our meal and service was perfect in every way. I rarely give a 5 star review, but the prix fixe dinner and perfectly chilled wine made this a very special occasion. Kudos to management and staff!
Highlights- the wine list is great some really nice interesting finds. Found a great unique bottle (on my own) which we really enjoyed. The servers were helpful and attentive. The appearance and ambiance was quaint and warm. The bad- The place was overall way to pretentious for what it was. You need to have an awareness of your abilities as as an establishment and the dining acumen of your guests, then tailor your attitude accordingly. If you want to eat at the most expensive place in Keystone and be treated like you don't understand a menu or know your way around a wine list then this is your spot. Food is extremely sub par. Given this place is pre fixe menu, I expected each course/option to be on point. Not the case at all. Only good food I had put in front of me was the tomato bisque. The rest big fail. Octopus appetizer over cooked, Jamaican fried chicken lacking all around, chicken had a good cook but waffle dry/crumbling, greens over cooked and bitter, then dessert was a total A.D.D. flavor disaster on a plate. Save your money and check out other options in River Run village area. Some great plates on plenty of other menus in the area without the extra expense or the attitude.
Ski Tip Lodge outside
Our server was amazing! She handled our group of 10 like a pro. The food was great, as usual. Suggestions.... (one of which I'm sure you have no control due to pandemic) was the lack of wine choices and not having a sommelier, it really adds to the experience. You must know that I've been coming to Max & Edna's place since I was a kid in the 60's so I have lots of memories of my family being there before they founded Keystone. Also, in the past, we always finished our meal and went out into the room with the big fireplace for dessert, not last night. And, it was disappointing to see my favorite room, where we would play chinese checkers in front of the fireplace, cards etc., where the sofas have been removed and replaced with tables, so that was a little disappointing. However, the food is always good and the ambiance is great. Thanks!
The private library dining room (9+ people required).
Very romantic and nice ambiance in this small historic lodge. Very extensive vine list. This could be all great if they don't force on you $96 four course dinner that is tasteless and unhealthy. I wish the cook was as good as the business people who run it.

11 all-inclusive ski resorts in the US where you can hit the slopes this season
Ski trips can be both expensive and complicated to plan. Before you hit the road, you likely have to select a ski town , choose your ski resort hotel or ski-friendly home rental , buy your ski passes or lift tickets , arrange lessons, make dining reservations, find equipment and more.
However, there is a way to make your ski trip planning easier. You can instead look for an all-inclusive ski resort. Yes — that's really a thing.
There are a few all-inclusive ski resorts in the U.S., despite the fact that they're much more common in Europe . Many offer at least some elements of the all-inclusive ski experience. This way, you can take some of the logistics and expenses out of your ski vacation and package everything into one easy bundle.
Pay special attention to what exactly each of these resorts includes since not all of them are 100% all-inclusive.
If you want your next ski trip to be as stress-free as possible, here are the best all-inclusive ski resorts to get you started.
The Ranch at Rock Creek is an all-ages luxury ranch getaway nestled in the wilds of Montana.
Guests have their pick of two complimentary activities included daily. In winter, options include snowmobiling, ice skating and cross-country skiing. Downhill skiing is also available just a 35-minute drive away at the Discovery Ski Area . The ski area features 67 trails and almost no lift lines.
The all-inclusive rates cover the equipment, transportation, lift tickets and lunch at the Discovery Ski Area dining area and bar, making this a truly all-inclusive winter experience.
Back on the ranch, visitors will find a spa, kids club activities and gourmet multicourse meals that come with premium wine, beer and spirits.
Rates at The Ranch at Rock Creek start at $2,000 per day for double occupancy.
Goldminer's Daughter Lodge is a family-friendly resort that has been around since the 1960s. During that time, it has attracted many repeat guests who come to ski, talk about skiing and ski again the next day.
It's not the fanciest option (reserve the two-bedroom North Suite if you want to avoid more basic rooms), but it's about as close as you can be to the lifts without sleeping on the snow.
A buffet-style breakfast and dinner are included ; there are rotating entree options such as steak, salmon, chicken, brisket burgers and fettuccine. Goldminer's Daughter has a bar and some pay-to-eat lunch options, too, along with a workout room, an activity room and a spa. All of these inclusions exist to ensure guests can focus on skiing and enjoying all that Alta has to offer.
Rates at Goldminer's Daughter Lodge start at $380 per day for single occupancy and increase per additional person. Lift tickets cost extra.
About 90 minutes from Missoula, Montana, sits Triple Creek Ranch. There, you'll find an adults-only luxury stay that is about as close to an all-inclusive ski experience as you can find in the U.S.
Your gourmet breakfast, lunch and dinner are included; rates also cover snacks, drinks and individually packaged to-go breakfasts and lunches for when you're out exploring. The ranch has a long list of included amenities and activities — one of which is downhill skiing .
At Triple Creek Ranch, you can enjoy transfers, lift tickets and equipment rentals for Lost Trail Powder Mountain Ski Resort , which is on the Continental Divide just 30 minutes away and accessible via a complimentary shuttle. This ski resort is home to more than 50 runs, 8,000-plus feet of elevation and an average snowfall of 300 inches per year.
Rates at Triple Creek Ranch start at $1,300 per night for double occupancy (from $1,400 per night for double occupancy starting in 2024).
Alta Lodge is a classic — it even has a ski bar ( The Sitzmark Club ) that dates back to the 1940s.
You might not find TVs in the guest rooms, but you will find ski-out fun with frills like afternoon tea. Not to mention, parents can sit back and relax while their children enjoy the kids club . The club will take tots to their lessons in the morning and feed and entertain them at night. On top of that, kids can actually stay free during the quieter parts of the ski season.
The included breakfast provides cooked-to-order eggs, a hot buffet and housemade pastries. Also, the covered dinner has four courses, with multiple main entree options every day, such as lamb with crispy polenta cakes and wild Alaskan halibut.
While the rooms aren't said to be the most updated, reviews here are generally very good, and there is a loyal following of return guests. From the hot pools and the meals to the free morning yoga, Alta Lodge is made for those who want to focus on skiing but still crave a few classic ski lodge luxuries between runs.
Rates at Alta Lodge start at $320 per day for single occupancy and increase per additional person. Lift tickets, rentals and lessons all cost extra but can be charged to the room.
Fun is the name of the game at Rocking Horse Ranch. This all-inclusive resort has the longest mountain snow tubing run in the Northeast. Guests can also enjoy complimentary ice skating on the resort's rink and splash around at its large indoor water park. That's just the tip of the iceberg at Rocking Horse.
Of course, there are ample opportunities for skiing, too. You won't have to worry about paying for ski gear, as the rates include it, and there are instructors for those who want to learn how to ski on the "big hill."
Room rates cover all meals, including a full breakfast buffet. Lunch offerings consist of a large salad bar and stations that serve fajitas, hamburgers, macaroni and more. A la carte dinner choices include Kansas City strip steak, spare ribs and roasted chicken. Oh, and there's a dessert bar, so you can indulge after your day on the slopes.
Rates at Rocking Horse Ranch Resort start at $559 per night for families of four.
In winter, Lone Mountain Ranch transforms into a wonderful snowy playground .
The ranch is on a top-rated cross-country trail network, and ski-out Nordic options and a Nordic ski group lesson are included. If you're searching for downhill ski adventures, the hotel's staff will drive you just 10 miles away to Big Sky, where skiing is available for an additional charge.
Rates also cover transfers from Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport (BZN) plus three farm-to-table meals a day in the ranch's Horn & Cantle restaurant. They even include a sleigh ride and dinner at North Folk Cabin .
You can stay in one of the 27 cabins that were restored and renovated in 2016. The ranch uses a text service so you can request your next activity, ride to the mountain or even get morning coffee delivered to your cabin with little effort.
Rates at Lone Mountain Ranch start at $800 per night based on double occupancy or $2,400 per night for a family of four. Downhill skiing at Big Sky is available for an additional charge.
When you stay at Latigo Ranch , you have more than 30 miles of machine-groomed cross-country trails at your front door. The ranch offers on-site rentals for skis, boots, poles, snowshoes and pulks to pull the little ones.
About 120 miles northwest of Denver and 80 miles from Vail , this is the place to get away from it all.
For breakfast, you can load up on homemade granola, pancakes, waffles and even house-smoked bacon. At lunchtime, there's a buffet with options such as pizza, bison burgers and pasta with homemade sauce. Dinner is where all the stops come out: You can sit at the cloth-draped tables and enjoy entrees like grass-fed ribeye and Colorado lamb chops.
Prices at Latigo Ranch are lower than many other all-inclusive ranches that offer skiing, so you can rest easy knowing you won't have to break the bank to shred powder.
Rates at Latigo Ranch start at $250 per adult per night and $175 per child ages 6 to 13, per night. Those 5 and younger cost $50 per night staying with an adult.
Brush Creek Ranch has something almost no other resort can claim: its own private downhill ski mountain . An hour from Laramie Regional Airport (LAR) in Wyoming (or less than four hours from Denver), this ranch and its offerings make for the trip of a lifetime.
Your stay includes three meals a day and select wine, spirits and beer, as well as activities such as horseback riding ( even in winter ), yoga, cross-country skiing, sledding and ice fishing. A children's program is covered, too. There's also an a la carte ski option that you should seriously consider.
At Brush Creek Ranch, you can book a ski experience that takes you 30 minutes away to Green Mountain, where you can ski or snowboard more than 1,100 vertical feet of trails. These trails are only available to Brush Creek guests, and the entrance is capped at 18 guests per day.
With this add-on, you not only get access to the mountain's private ski runs. Your ski boots will also be waiting for you, warmed by the stove. The experience includes a gourmet lunch on the mountain at Pat's Porch — the cherry on top of a perfect ski day with all-around outstanding service.
Rates at The Lodge & Spa at Brush Creek Ranch start at $2,000 per night for double occupancy. The ski experience is available for an additional charge.
Colorado's Old West vibes never felt so warm, welcoming and downright luxurious as they do at this iconic guest ranch about 45 minutes from Steamboat Ski Resort. On the long list of winter fun you can get up to at Vista Verde Ranch are things like horseback riding, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, ice fishing and sleigh rides, with all gear included.
The boutique-style property is beloved for its cabins with private hot tubs. Occupancy is capped at 50 guests, so the experience feels exclusive and intimate. Its all-inclusive rates come with transportation to Steamboat Ski Resort, ski storage and packed lunches to enjoy on the mountain. You'll pay extra for lift tickets and ski rentals to go downhill skiing.
Children's programs at the ranch, offered during holiday breaks, provide supervised activities like tubing, horseback rides and snow play while parents adventure on their own or take some time to relax at the ranch's decadent spa.
Rates at Vista Verde Ranch start at $627 per person, per night, with children receiving a $100 per night discount. Ski lift tickets and equipment rental are available for an additional charge.
Vermont is at its bucolic best in many places and in many seasons. However, it's hard to find a more fairytale spot than Twin Farms — especially under a blanket of fresh snow.
The property is open to guests 14 and older and is about 90 minutes from Burlington. It offers all-inclusive rates that come with a stay in a luxurious cottage or suite, all farm-to-table meals, fine wines and spirits, cocktails and canapes in the evenings and wintertime activities, too. The latter include sledding and skiing at the resort's private ski hill with six runs you can access via a UTV vehicle that makes constant loops (all gear is also included).
Among the other winter fun for guests are ice fishing, fat-tire biking, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing on groomed runs. You can ice skate on the property's on-site pond when it freezes over, too.
The hotel's guest experiences team can set you up with a loaner Volvo if you want to drive out into the Vermont countryside to explore on your own. They'll even pack you a gourmet picnic to bring along.
Rates at Twin Farms start at $2,600 per night for double occupancy and include downhill skiing gear.
Although it's in Canada and not the U.S., Quebec Charlevoix is Club Med's first mountain resort in North America and well worth considering for an affordable all-inclusive ski vacation this winter. About four hours from Montreal in an area with 21 feet of annual snowfall, this is where you will find that quintessential all-inclusive ski resort experience.
The resort has a ski-out location, and it features 302 rooms and dozens of larger suites. The price tag includes everything from meals and bar drinks to ski instruction, plus 30 on- and off-mountain activities and access to the children's club for age-appropriate entertainment for guests ages 4 months to 17 years old. Ski equipment does cost extra, though.
Don't worry if you want a break from mountain sports. There is also a circus school and many other activities to enjoy.
Rates at Club Med Québec Charlevoix start at $1,175 for double occupancy on a two-night stay.

At Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort in the Adirondacks , you'll find not only a ski mountain committed to sustainable policies – such as generating its own solar power and protecting native wildlife – but also the tallest vertical drop in the eastern U.S. Other unique features at this mountain resort include one of the longest intermediate runs in the Northeast, plus The Slides: steep, chute-like drops classed as double black diamond difficulty. For an adrenaline rush that may be a bit less intimidating, skiers can also head over to the terrain parks.
The secret weapon here is the fact that nearby Lake Placid has hosted the winter Olympics twice, with plenty of events on Whiteface Mountain . Some of those facilities are still active, meaning off-mountain activities like Olympic-grade bobsledding are an option. After you're done shredding, you can check out other Olympic sites in the area – such as the ski jumps, where lucky visitors may even get to see professional athletes training.
Where to stay: Turn in at the Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort for a family-friendly atmosphere and amenities including an indoor pool and a seasonal ice rink on Mirror Lake. Guests say the views of the lake are a highlight of staying here.

Breckenridge Ski Resort: Breckenridge, Colorado
If you've made it to Breckenridge, you're already in one of the country's best skiing destinations , and the amenities at Breckenridge Ski Resort will help you make the most of this wintertime paradise. This mammoth mountain resort (about 80 miles southwest of Denver ) is a maze just waiting to be explored: Its summit towers at just about 13,000 feet, and the mountain offers more than 185 trails serviced by a few dozen ski lifts. You can practice your tricks at one of the resort's terrain parks or attempt the high alpine terrain trails unique to this region.
After you work up an appetite on the slopes, it's time to hit the town. The historic downtown area of Breckenridge is home to boutiques, cafes, galleries and breweries galore, turning your ski trip into a full cultural experience. Consider coming in late January, when you can check out the International Snow Sculpture Championships, where artists carve 25-ton hunks of snow into wildly elaborate creatures.
Where to stay: Exhausted skiers can hit the hay at one of the resort's signature lodging properties, which include One Ski Hill Place , among others. It offers ski-in, ski-out access and is packed with everything from hot tubs to a bowling alley. Past visitors praise the amenities, saying that the indoor pool is a great place to chill out.
Address: 1599 Ski Hill Road, Breckenridge, CO 80424
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort: Teton Village, Wyoming
While Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is worth a visit any time of year, the property's ski season is superb. Lift tickets can be purchased ahead of time, and there are winter sports galore on offer in addition to skiing. Head to Jackson Hole to go snowmobiling, ice skating, snowshoeing and even heli-skiing. Travelers can even book a winter sleigh ride or go dog-sledding.
As for the skiing, Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is a great spot for adventurers. Half of its 130-plus trails are for experts, and it's known as a hotspot for backcountry skiers. Beginners may want to beware, as only 10% of trails cater to them – but on the upside, there's ski instruction readily available for all ages and abilities. Visitors will find a variety of dining options throughout Jackson Hole, which makes this destination a good choice for foodies.
Where to stay: With hotel-style accommodations as well as condos and mountain villas, this ski resort is perfect for a romantic getaway or a vacation with the entire family in tow. The Four Seasons Resort and Residences Jackson Hole is a popular lodging option. With its woodsy-yet-elegant vibe – complete with fireplaces in the rooms – guests say this hotel the epitome of classic ski resort luxury.

This notoriously upscale Colorado ski resort famous for its award-winning slopes and glamorous patrons is not to be missed. Aspen Snowmass, located about 200 miles southwest of Denver, is a must-visit for any skiers looking for killer runs and a vibrant après-ski scene. The resort boasts more than 5,500 acres of terrain across four different mountains. You'll find a variety of beginner-friendly trails at Buttermilk , but the other three mountains consist primarily of intermediate and expert terrain. At Aspen Mountain and Snowmass , about a third of the runs are double black diamonds, while Aspen Highlands provides the ultimate test for the most daring skiers with 65% expert terrain.
No matter which mountain you work up an appetite on, you can stop mid-run to enjoy hearty food alongside mountain views at slopeside restaurants. Find more dining and activity options at the mountain bases: Snowmass Village offers ice skating and indoor rock climbing, while the mountain town of Aspen boasts shopping, museums and entertainment options from ballet to cinema.
Where to stay: When it's time to unwind, rest your sore muscles in the chic accommodations at The Little Nell . It's both luxurious and highly convenient, with past guests raving about the beautiful, spacious rooms and services like the ski concierges. Bonus: The Little Nell is ski-in, ski-out.

Park City Mountain Resort: Park City, Utah
Courtesy of Park City - Vail Resorts
As the largest ski resort in the U.S. at 7,300-plus skiable acres, this Utah complex offers a summit elevation of about 10,000 feet, more than 40 lifts and plenty of amenities. With more than 330 trails at Park City Mountain Resort , you're sure to find terrain suitable for your skiing or snowboarding style. If you're a first-time skier or just want a quick refresher before embarking on your downhill excursion, there are private and group lessons available for children, teens and adults. The mountain's many terrain parks – which welcome skiers and boarders of all levels to try out the jumps, half-pipes and more – are also a major draw for visitors. If you're not in the mood to hit the slopes, the Flying Eagle Zipline and the Alpine Coaster will give you an exciting adrenaline rush.
Since the resort is located in Park City , which is relatively large for a ski town, there are numerous bars, breweries and restaurants within reach. Park City Mountain Resort is situated about 35 miles east of Salt Lake City International Airport, making it an easier commute from airport to mountain compared to other popular resorts out west.
Where to stay: An array of ski-in, ski-out accommodation options also make this mountain resort one of the country's best. One traveler favorite is the Grand Summit Hotel , a relatively no-fuss option with rooms, suites and apartments of up to three rooms. Past guests say it has an amazing ski-in, ski-out location and incredibly helpful staff. There are also many stellar rental properties in the area. Take note: As the Sundance Film Festival typically takes place in Park City in January, the town will be packed with visitors, so accommodations may be harder to find.

Dollar Mountain, however, with four lifts and two people movers, is the ideal place for novices and students, given its treeless trails and terrain park.
The resort's lodges make it convenient to stop for a midday bite to eat or a moment to rest in a cozy atmosphere, with hearty food from burgers to tacos on offer. You'll have access to all the exciting activities in Sun Valley , including sleigh rides, ice skating and ice shows.
Where to stay: Sun Valley village and the adjacent town of Ketchum at the base of the mountains have ample accommodation options whether you're looking for a classic hotel or a rental home. Stay at Sun Valley Lodge for a spa and a glass-enclosed pool. Previous guests describe the lodge as both luxurious and full of old-world charm, with spacious rooms to boot.

Vail Ski Resort: Vail, Colorado
Jeff Andrew | Courtesy of Vail Resorts
Colorado's Vail Ski Resort should also make it on your list of ski resorts to visit during winter, especially if you're an experienced skier. There are 5,300-plus acres of skiable terrain in total here, more than half of which is considered advanced or expert level. The nearly 200 trails to choose from at Vail Ski Resort are serviced by more than 30 ski lifts to get you to your starting point. Riva Ridge, the resort's longest run, even lasts for 4 winding and exciting miles.
If you're a foodie, consider booking a trip to Vail to coincide with the Taste of Vail food festival (usually in early April, late in the ski season), when a host of chefs and wineries put on special dinners, tastings and more around the village.
Where to stay: The city of Vail is also known for its many luxury lodging options. The Hythe Vail is a good choice for those seeking elegant hotel-style accommodations, with a chateau-like building offering fire pits or fireplaces in many rooms, as well as rustic-chic chalet-style suites and residences. Previous guests praise the beautiful rooms, as well as the helpful ski valet service on offer.
Address: 241 E. Meadow Drive, Vail, CO 81657 (Vail Village parking)
Taos Ski Valley: Taos, New Mexico
While many would associate New Mexico with deserts rather than snowcapped peaks, some of the country's best skiing can be found at this resort near the Colorado border. The 110 trails are split about evenly between options for experts and those for beginners or intermediate skiers and snowboarders. Great skiing weather is frequent with 300-plus sunny days per year here. Lessons of all kinds are available, for everyone from beginners up to seasoned skiers looking to start racing.
Off the slopes, the Taos area is a cultural hot spot with plenty of unique activities, including galleries and museums in the main town, the UNESCO-listed Taos Pueblo site, and the Ojo Caliente hot springs a little to the south. Getting to Taos depends on where you're based: There are limited flights to Taos Regional Airport from Texas and California, but otherwise the airport in Santa Fe , about 100 miles away, has more options.
Where to stay: Consider staying at The Blake for direct access to the slopes at Taos. It offers eclectic rooms with decor that draws on local Indigenous design, with accommodations ranging from cozy king bed rooms up to multilevel penthouses for larger groups. Guests rave about the amenities here, like the heated outdoor pool and hot tubs as well as northern Italian food at the in-house restaurant.

Stowe Mountain Resort: Stowe, Vermont
Courtesy of Stowe Mountain Resort
Consisting of two mountains (Mount Mansfield and Spruce Peak) connected by a gondola, Stowe Mountain Resort offers nearly 120 trails and a dozen lifts. It's great for mid-tier skiers and boarders, with 55% of its trails marked as intermediate. Located around 40 miles east of Burlington, Stowe is also a renowned spot for cross-country skiing , with hundreds of miles of trails – some groomed, some backcountry.
Plenty of other wintery activities are available too, from snowmobiling and fat biking to ice climbing, ice fishing and dog-sledding. Warm up in the Spruce Peak village, situated at the base of the resort: It has breweries and restaurants specializing in local produce, as well as spas, a performing arts center and an indoor rock climbing center.
Where to stay: Choose from an array of cabins, inns and lodges in the area. If you want to be close to the slopes, The Lodge at Spruce Peak is the only ski-in, ski-out accommodation at the resort. The rooms have a chalet vibe and showcase Vermont-designed furniture and fabrics. Guests say the views and the heated pool here are among the many highlights.

Heavenly Ski Resort: Lake Tahoe, California
Courtesy of Heavenly Ski Resort
Unlike many ski destinations, Lake Tahoe has more than just one resort to choose from: In fact, there's more than a dozen scattered around this gigantic alpine lake. Heavenly Ski Resort boasts the highest mountain in Lake Tahoe at 10,000-plus feet as well as 4,800 acres of skiable terrain. It has a little something for all abilities – and a reputation for particularly gorgeous views. Its nearly 100 trails are served by 28 chairlifts, nine of which are high-speed. The runs are largely geared toward intermediate skiers and snowboarders, but you'll still find options for beginners and pros, as well as a terrain park that includes a beginner section.
Alternatively, activities like snowshoeing, snow tubing and skating are available for those not looking to brave the slopes. The town of South Lake Tahoe has ample amenities and restaurants serving everything from pub grub to Thai food. To fly in to Lake Tahoe , the Nevada city of Reno has the closest major airport, and there are shuttles available to traverse the 55 miles to South Lake Tahoe.
Where to stay: Immerse yourself in the winter vibes at the Fireside Lodge, a few miles west of Heavenly. With log cabin-style rooms that strike a balance of kitschy and cozy thanks to their gas fireplaces, this bed-and-breakfast is the epitome of alpine accommodation. You'll even be treated to complimentary breakfast and a daily wine-and-cheese happy hour. Past visitors have loved the rustic decor and friendly hosts, saying it's a convivial place where you'll likely chat with other guests.

12 best family ski resorts in the US
MSN has partnered with The Points Guy for our coverage of credit card products. MSN and The Points Guy may receive a commission from card issuers.
Editor’s note: This is a recurring post, regularly updated with new information and offers.
Whether your child is a snowboarding teen used to shredding powder or a newbie headed to ski school for the very first time, many mountain resorts across the U.S. are perfect for a family ski trip .
Skiing can be a terrific family activity in winter , as the après-ski scene provides just as much fun as time spent on the slopes. Many resorts offer alternative snow-related activities — such as tubing, ice skating, snowshoeing and even sleigh rides — so the whole family can enjoy the mountain experience.
Recommended: The best travel credit cards
The best ski resorts for families are usually the ones that offer on- and near-mountain lodging, ski schools with a variety of programs, beginner- and intermediate-friendly terrain and some quality non-ski activities, too.
Keep in mind that ski and snowboard lessons can book up well in advance, so if ski school — or even on-mountain child care — is a must-have for your vacation, double-check the options to ensure they fit your ski vacation goals.
Once you decide on the best resort for your family, price out lift tickets and pass options ahead of time. You may be surprised at how much more affordable it is to buy ski passes in advance rather than purchase individual lift tickets — even if you are only skiing for a day or two.
Some mountains also offer kids-ski-free programs , which can help keep the trip cost down. Additionally, many ski resorts have capacity limits, so you’ll want to make sure you purchase your tickets prior to arriving (or make advance reservations at select mountains).
With all these nuances in mind, here are some of our favorite ski resorts for the whole family.
Beaver Creek Resort, Colorado
Why beaver creek is a good ski resort for families.
This may be surprising for those who are only familiar with the mountain’s luxury reputation, but Colorado’s Beaver Creek is perhaps one of the friendliest slopes for family ski trips. About a two-hour drive from Denver International Airport (DEN) or 30 minutes from Eagle County Regional Airport (EGE), this resort is relatively easy to access, assuming you have good road conditions.
Beaver Creek has been upping its already solid family ski game even more lately thanks, in part, to the recent opening of a brand-new, 250-acre, lift-served expansion called McCoy Park. This offers even more terrain for beginner and intermediate skiers and snowboarders, and it elevates the mountain experience with 17 new groomable trails, plus two additional chairlifts.
Here, you’ll also find the Beaver Creek Candy Cabin , which is a great addition to the Ice Cream Parlour at the top of the Haymeadow Express Gondola. At the Red Buffalo Park’s Cookie Cabin and at the bottom of the Centennial Express and Haymeadow Lift, you’ll also be able to experience the mountain’s infamous 3 p.m. cookie time.
After a long day of skiing, you can enjoy ice skating in the village, and on Thursday nights, kids and adults who are at least level four skiers can participate in a glow stick ski. For a unique experience, take an open-air, snowcat-led sleigh ride to Allie’s Cabin , Zach’s Cabin or Beano’s Cabin — three different mountain-top dining options.
The mountain also ensures that teens are fully entertained. With the Hawk’s Nest Cabin debuting this year in Beaver Creek Village, teens can enjoy the coolest underage club, featuring craft nonalcoholic beverages, music, interactive technology, arcade and table games, a ski simulator, lounge spots and more.
Lift tickets for Beaver Creek don’t have to cost a ton if you plan in advance and lock in an Epic Pass of some sort.

Keystone Resort, Colorado
Why keystone is a good ski resort for families.
Out of all the great Colorado ski resorts (and there are plenty), Keystone is the hot spot for kids of all ages. There are the usual dog sledding, snow tubing, ice skating and sleigh ride activities, but the piece de resistance is the resort’s kids programs and accommodations.
There are plenty of fun on-mountain experiences, such as snowcat skiing and night skiing (on weekends and holidays). Tykes should also like the famous Snow Fort. In fact, this year, there are actually two snow forts to pick from: one up on Dercum Mountain and one in the Mountain House base area.
Additionally, the resort offers a ton of family conveniences, such as free preferred family parking for those with kids 12 and younger as well as red wagons to help tow skis, boards or even tired kiddos.
With a new lift and for the 2023-24 season, Keystone will add another 550 acres of diverse terrain among 16 new trails. Now, with more than 3,500 acres, your family can experience a wide range of terrain, including the 3.5-mile-long Schoolmarm — a timeless run for the family to work on turns.
Best of all, kids 12 and younger ski free when you stay at one of the resort’s properties for two or more nights (there are no blackout dates).

Snowmass, Colorado
Why snowmass is a good ski resort for families.
Snowmass is one of the mountains in Colorado’s swanky Aspen ski area, so you can check a high-end ski resort off your bucket list while entertaining the kids at the same time.
A bit less showy than its big sister Aspen, Snowmass notably includes the Treehouse Kids’ Adventure Center, a licensed kids club for children between 8 weeks and 4 years old. Children at least 2.5 years old can also hit the slopes, as the mountain offers many ski school options.
On top of that, Snowmass allows kids to ski free all the way through age 6, which makes it a more affordable choice for a young family than most mountains; other areas typically start charging kids by the time they turn 4. For those 7 and up, know that the mountain participates in both the Ikon and Mountain Collective ski passes.
Other kid-friendly Snowmass activities include on-mountain snow tubing , alpine coasters , ice skating , snowshoeing tours and even an indoor climbing wall . During select dates throughout winter, Snowmass will offer a nighttime winter wonderland party called Ullr Nights filled with evening activities for families. This includes a gondola ride to Elk Camp, bonfires, tubing, alpine coaster rides, snow biking, s’mores and hot chocolate.

Copper Mountain, Colorado
Why copper mountain is a good ski resort for families.
If you are looking for a Colorado ski resort experience with lower prices than its neighbors, Copper is a great choice. This resort has family-friendly written all over it, with an array of activities for all ages.
In addition to skiing in what are often prime snow conditions, you’ll have the Rocky Mountain Coaster , plenty of snow tubing , ice skating on West Lake in Center Village and even daily complimentary ambassador ski tours .
Additionally, whenever there is a full moon, Copper Mountain will offer ambassador-guided Full Moon Snowshoe Tours in the evenings. For an off-mountain activity, the 19,400-square-foot Woodward Copper Barn serves as an indoor action sports facility, offering many unique activities at Copper Mountain.
For the third year in a row, the Copper Maze is set to return. Near the base of the Super Bee lift in Copper’s East Village, this maze is extremely fun for kids, as it’s made entirely of snow.
New this year, visitors will be able to experience the resort’s brand-new mid-mountain lodge, Aerie. The gondola will unload at the deck on this 25,000-square-foot building, which will also offer more dining options with a beautiful 270-degree view.
Copper is also continuing to make improvements to its Western Territory Expansion. This area is on the far west side of the mountain and is designed to inspire beginner skiers, kids and families to connect with Copper’s history and heritage. With 27 new snowmaking hydrants just this year, guests will receive even earlier access. In addition to the new trails that have debuted over the past few years (including kid-friendly tree trails), guests will be able to experience two more beginner trails, bringing Copper’s overall skiable acreage to 2,538 acres.

Deer Valley Resort, Utah
Why deer valley is a good ski resort for families.
When kids are getting their bearings and making big side-to-side turns on a slope, it can be easier to start on runs where you won’t find any snowboarders.
At the ski-only Deer Valley Resort, there’s a children’s adventure area on the mountain where you will find 14 pint-size trails allowing tots to practice new techniques — although their favorite part will probably be the tiny cabin hidden in the woods. The mountain limits its ticket sales each day, which keeps crowds (and lift line waits) at a minimum.
If you are looking for a ski resort that can also entertain a non-skiing child, the Deer Valley Children’s Center offers licensed full-day child care with many activities, as well as outdoor and indoor playgrounds. Children between 2 months and 12 years old can enjoy this facility.
Deer Valley has a fun approach to ski school that includes the Teen Escape for teens ages 13 to 17, the Adventure Club for kids ages 7 to 12, the Reindeer Club for 5- and 6-year-olds and the Bambi Club for 4-year-olds. For the younger kids, you’ll find the class sizes are incredibly small, with just two to four kids in a class — depending on age.
Because Deer Valley participates in the Ikon Pass ski program, you may find that the more economical way to lock in lift tickets is to opt for a pass instead of paying the window rates.

Northstar California Resort, California
Why northstar is a good ski resort for families.
California’s Northstar Resort, along the California-Nevada border on Lake Tahoe, is excellent for families. They can ski together in the Kids Adventure Zone, where two mountain areas have blue trails safely tucked away from bigger, faster skiers and snowboarders.
This winter, guests to the mountain (which gets an average of 350 inches of annual snowfall) will continue to enjoy Tost — one of the area’s one-of-a-kind traditions. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, you can kick up your feet here and unwind midday while enjoying a glass of apple cider (or a glass of bubbly for the adults). Additionally, families can enjoy the après-ski scene by cozying up around the fire pit or zipping around on ice skates while listening to live music. At other times, you can enjoy fireside s’mores and hot cocoa.
If cross-country skiing is your activity of choice, the Nordic Center offers nearly 22 miles of scenic trails for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and fat biking.

Smugglers’ Notch Resort, Vermont
Why smugglers’ notch is a good ski resort for families.
An uber kid-friendly ski resort, Smugglers’ Notch focuses on the entire family experience, which is why it’s known as “America’s Family Resort.”
Smuggs, as it’s called by those who know and love it, offers an award-winning Snow Sport University. It starts lessons with little ones as young as 3 years old. Sir Henry’s Learning and Fun Park has two “magic carpet rides” that gently guide new skiers to the top.
For those who already know how to ski and board, the mountain has everything they could want: 78 trails, eight lifts, the highest vertical drop in northern Vermont at 2,610 feet and more than 300 inches of natural snow each year. Not to mention, multiple terrain parks and 1,000 acres for skiing and riding are available.
For those staying at the resort, everything is a few steps away, and an on-demand shuttle will take you wherever you need to go.
Off the mountain, you’ll also find a plethora of activities — both during the day and night. Activities include snowshoeing, tubing, cross-country skiing, swimming, ice skating, bingo and magic shows. You can also experience the updated Fun Zone 2.0, which features a Ninja Warrior course, laser tag, miniature golf, an arcade, large inflatable slides and more spread across 26,000 square feet of indoor space.

Stowe, Vermont
Why stowe is a good ski resort for families.
Stowe has a world-class ski school and plenty of long, beautiful blue trails to keep your not-yet-expert skiers and snowboarders engaged. The relatively new Adventure Zone has continued to be a big hit; these low-angle, gladed areas are appropriate for anyone in the family looking for a fun experience skiing or boarding through the trees on Mount Mansfield.
After a great family day on the slopes, take in a free pre-dinner skate at the Spruce Peak outdoor ice rink , embark on a guided twilight snowshoe tour through the woods or enjoy indoor rock climbing at Stowe Rocks. If you’re looking for a resort with a village atmosphere, this is one of the best you’ll find in the Northeast.
The total solar eclipse should be 100% visible from Stowe Mountain Resort, and the resort will be throwing a Solar Eclipse Soiree. So, not only should you be able to enjoy some spring skiing on April 8, 2024, but you can also enjoy some eclipse-specific events from Vermont’s highest peak.
The main issue with Stowe Mountain is its ticket prices compared to many other East Coast resorts. Luckily, the Epic Ski Pass can potentially save your family over the walk-up lift ticket rates. You could even look at Epic’s Northeast Value Pass if you expect to only ski at East Coast mountains this winter. Those with an Epic Pass will also be able to access date-specific appreciation days, featuring an on-mountain Champagne and sparking cider toast.

Jay Peak, Vermont
Why jay peak is a good ski resort for families.
People love Jay Peak thanks to its indoor water park , which is ideal for families who want to take a day off from skiing or have something to do after morning ski school. The Jay Peak Pump House features slides, a FlowRider surf simulator and an entire kids play area. Many lodging packages include water park access, or you can purchase a daypass (purchasing in advance is recommended).
Aside from the water park, there are two arcades , a climbing gym , an ice skating rink , an indoor ropes course and a slopeside movie theater . Not all activities are offered every day, so double-check ahead of time. Make advance bookings where available.
Best of all, there’s a surplus of ski-in, ski-out condo and hotel options, giving families the perfect opportunity to stay in accommodations that work best for their needs. For those with little ones — or even big ones — Jay Peak offers child care for children as young as 6 weeks old both during the day and in the evenings.

Why bretton woods is a good ski resort for families.
Just across the Vermont border is New Hampshire’s answer to family-oriented skiing: Bretton Woods.
Home to the family-friendly Omni Mount Washington Resort , Bretton Woods features fat-tire snow biking trails, a 62-mile trail network for cross-country skiing, sleigh rides, snow tubing, canopy tours and an indoor-outdoor heated swimming pool (just for guests). The 3-year-old Rosewood Lodge at the top of the mountain also gives skiers and riders that top-of-the-mountain lodge and luxury dining experience, which you won’t find at many other nearby mountains.
Unfortunately, unlike what you’ll find at many other mountains, Bretton Woods doesn’t offer full-day ski school (only half-day). Here, you’ll only find two-hour group lessons limited to Fridays and Saturdays. However, if you’re looking for private or semi-private lessons, those options are more readily available. They’re also more affordable than what you’ll find ay many other mountains. If ski school is a must, then you’ll want to take their offerings into consideration.
From the hotel’s architecture to the incredible views of the top of Mount Washington, it’s no surprise that the resort is a top destination for families. With many fun activities for the entire family and more than 468 acres to ski , there should be no shortage of on-mountain family fun.

Mont-Tremblant Ski Resort, Quebec
Why mont-tremblant is a good ski resort for families.
In case you haven’t found the perfect family ski resort for you this far into the list, we are cheating a little and including two near-to-the-U.S. family ski resort options in Canada.
At Mont-Tremblant, your family can get the feeling of skiing internationally without crossing the pond at this French-influenced getaway just a couple of hours outside Montreal. Featuring 102 slopes and usually great snow conditions, Mont-Tremblant is one of the best ski experiences in North America, with the highest peak in the Laurentians region.
While older family members explore the high peaks of Mont-Tremblant, kids as young as 3 years old can enjoy practicing their turns at ski school . Or, if you happen to be visiting during spring break, Tremblant’s Ski Week program will give you four full days with the same instructor.
Guests can explore a unique European-style pedestrian village directly at the mountain’s base. The pedestrian village allows easy access from the front step of your hotel door to the bottom of the slopes. With its colorful buildings — including more than 75 shops, restaurants, bars and boutiques — there is plenty to do in any weather.
On a non-skiing day, grab the kids and hit the snow-covered trails ripe for fat biking, dune buggy rides, snowshoeing, ice fishing, sleigh rides and even ice climbing. Families will not want to miss the Brind’O Aquaclub water park, which offers four slides, indoor and outdoor hot tubs, 35 interactive water games and a revamped fitness room. There is also laser tag and a virtual reality arcade.
If Mont-Tremblant is on your radar, you can save money with the Ikon Base Pass .

Whistler Blackcomb, British Columbia
Why whistler is a good ski resort for families.
British Columbia’s Whistler is another Canadian winter ski hot spot with a family-friendly focus. Your kids will love the pint-size ski experience at the resort’s Enchanted Woods, which is usually clear of more experienced and faster skiers. Or, embark on the thrilling bubly Tube Park .
In addition to the return of the Magic Castle and Tree Fort outdoor playlands at both Whistler and its sister mountain, Blackcomb, families will be entertained with the mountain’s free Fire and Ice performances every Sunday night (a display of ski and snowboard skills). Families can also exchange their ski boots for ice skates and skate for free in Whistler Village, which is chock-full of shops, restaurants and things to do in the after-ski hours.
