New Regional Travel Vouchers Ready For Release

The latest round of the popular Regional Travel Voucher Scheme opens on Tuesday, giving 50,000 Victorians the chance to secure a $200 ticket to support trips across the state.

Acting Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Jaala Pulford said the third round of the scheme will build on the success of previous releases, including the most recent when an allocation of 40,000 vouchers was exhausted inside 15 minutes.

The new allocation, to go online at 10am on 30 March, will bring the total number of vouchers released in the regional and metropolitan travel schemes to 200,000, providing a significant boost to local economies and bolstering employment in vital tourism and hospitality businesses.

Victorians have made 14,000 claims to date for round two travel and preliminary data shows continued enthusiasm for Victoria’s coastal regions – including the Mornington Peninsula, Bass Coast, Surf Coast, East Gippsland and Colac-Otway shires. Vouchers in the second round can be claimed for travel until 1 April.

More than 52,000 vouchers were redeemed in the first round of travel in December and January, with visitors to regional Victoria spending an estimated $85 million at an average of $1,700 per trip. The average length of stay was five nights.

Underlining the ongoing benefits of the scheme, four out of five visitors said that they would want to return again to the region where they had travelled.

This third round of 50,000 vouchers will be redeemable for travel between 6 April and 31 May. Successful applicants will submit a claim for eligible expenses after their travel, ensuring immediate benefits for tourism and accommodation operators across the state.

To qualify for the scheme, you must be a Victorian resident over the age of 18, and spend at least $400 on paid accommodation, experiences, tours or attractions in regional Victoria, the Yarra and Dandenong Ranges or the Mornington Peninsula.

Vouchers will be limited to one per household for the regional scheme and a minimum two-night stay is required in paid accommodation such as hotels and motels, serviced apartments, caravan parks, camping sites, farm stays and private holiday rentals.

For more information on the voucher scheme and to apply, go to vic.gov.au/regional-travel-voucher-scheme External Link .

Quotes attributable to Acting Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Jaala Pulford

“We are thrilled that so many people are able to explore our regional cities, towns, hinterlands and coastal areas, and that they are voting with their keyboards to secure these sought-after vouchers.”

“The third round of the regional scheme will boost visits for the period straight after Easter, which already looks like a bumper time for people to discover new parts of Victoria.”

“The voucher winners will be happy, but the biggest winners will be the businesses that have shown such resilience over the last year and the workers who make our visitor economy great.”

Another 10,000 travel vouchers are up for grabs for eligible victorian seniors.

Millions of Australians could be owed refund for junk insurance

Victorian seniors will share in an extra 10,000 travel vouchers, in another boost for the state’s COVID-hit tourism sector .

The Victorian government on Monday announced eligible seniors who missed out on one of the initial 10,000 vouchers would get a second chance for a discounted holiday.

Under the scheme, voucher holders can claim a $200 rebate when spending $400 or more on accommodation, tours, experiences and attractions across the state from April 8 to May 27.

Minister for Regional Development Mary-Anne Thomas said some of the initial recipients were ineligible due to being from the same family, paving the way for unused vouchers to be redistributed.

How to get the new vouchers

The extra 10,000 vouchers will handed out among the 25,000 people who unsuccessfully applied in the original ballot.

They are urged to check their email to find out whether they have been lucky the second time around.

More than $159 million has been injected into Victoria’s tourism sector from previous rounds of the travel voucher scheme.

“This is all part of our government’s commitment to help tourism businesses and others come back stronger than ever after the last couple of years,” Thomas told reporters.

Victoria reported one COVID-related death and 7918 new cases on Monday, the six consecutive day infections have fallen in the state.

Dining program still underway

Victoria’s statewide Dining and Entertainment Program is still underway and offers 25 per cent back of up to $125 per dining bill.

The scheme is for everywhere outside of the CBD and diners must spend at least $40 in hospitality venues to be eligible.

Multiple claims can be submitted.

Travel voucher scheme expanded, but concerns regional Victorian businesses could lose out

Woman stands in front of hotel sign

Regional Victorian tourism operators have welcomed a new round of travel vouchers aimed at enticing more people to the country, but some say more needs to be done to ensure the money is spent locally.

Key points:

  • The Victorian government has announced a further $200 million to help entertainment, dining, and travel industries recover
  • It includes the expansion of a statewide travel voucher scheme
  • Regional tourism groups welcome the announcement, but some say more should be done to keep the money local

The Victorian government announced Monday it will spend $200 million to help the entertainment, dining, and travel industries recover from COVID-19.

As part of this, $30 million has been set aside to expand the Regional and Metropolitan Travel Voucher Scheme .

This means people can access $200 vouchers when they spend at least $400 on eligible tourism and travel-related services.

Bendigo Motel Association president Kristyn Slattery said while it was good news, the scheme's structure could see local businesses miss out.

"At the moment, the customer can book any way they like," she said.

"If they book on an online travel agent anywhere from 10 to 25 per cent commission is going offshore, doing nothing for the small business."

Ms Slattery said she has been calling on the government to restructure the scheme so people have to book directly with businesses in order to access the vouchers.

"We've seen South Australia successfully set up a platform to do that which meant every dollar stayed local," she said.

"But I keep getting responses [from the government] that they don't wish to tell people where and how they spend their money.

"Yet they're not spending their money, they're spending Victorian money that's been put out there to support our businesses rebuild after a devastating and very trying two years."

'We still have a long way to go'

Victoria's new business stimulus package will also include a statewide $30 million dining voucher program.

The initiative will take 25 per cent off meal costs for those dining out Monday to Thursday and spending between $40 and $500.

An entertainment voucher — also totalling $30 million — will also be launched, giving people rebates off tickets to theatre, live music, cinemas, museums, and galleries.

Eight diners sit at tables on the footpath outside a Melbourne cafe.

Murray Regional Tourism chief executive Mark Francis said this boost comes as the industry fights to return to pre-pandemic levels.

He said modelling showed regional Victoria's tourism industry should bounce back by the end of 2024.

"The industry is definitely seeing some signs of recovery but we still have a long way to go," he said.

"These types of initiatives are great to actually encourage more visitors out."

Highs and lows in the Grampians

In the west, Justine Hyde of Grampians Helicopters and Grampians Wine Tours also welcomed the travel vouchers, given the "massive surge" in bookings following previous rounds of the program.

She said her businesses were continuing to witness huge highs and lows in bookings, despite COVID restrictions easing.

A hollow in a mountain

"People are comfortable about getting in the helicopter given they're not with anyone outside their friend group," Ms Hyde said.

"But with the wine tours and bus component, people have been concerned and nervous about sharing an enclosed space with others they don't know."

She said the region was excited to have international visitors back as of Monday, but she was not expecting an immediate surge.

"I believe it will take a little more time for those internationals to make their way out here where we are," she said.

The travel voucher program will open on March 23 for travel between April 8 and May 27.

An extra 10,000 vouchers will be set aside for Victorian seniors, released through a ballot on March 15.

The entertainment and dining voucher programs are expected to open on March 29.

Industry applauds a $200 million investment to reboot Victoria’s visitor economy

Monday 21, feb 2022.

As Australia throws open its borders to the world, it was welcomed news for Victoria’s tourism, events, and hospitality operators that the Victorian Government today launched a $200 million package to kick-start the industry right across the state.

VTIC CEO, Felicia Mariani, said this was exactly what the industry needed to boost confidence and set their business on a strong path for recovery.

“This $200 million investment by the Victorian State Government is timed perfectly to build on the momentum of borders opening today and density limit restrictions easing further.

“The state’s visitor economy has lost nearly $20 billion over the last two years and our industry has been proven to be the hardest hit by the consequences of this global pandemic. This massive injection of funding to support driving demand back to our tourism and hospitality operators across the state will go a long way in working to claw back some of this lost territory.”

The package includes a massive $10 million for the highly popular Melbourne Money Scheme, which will be delivered in conjunction with City of Melbourne, bringing a 25% rebate to spend on hospitality. $30 million will also be invested to take a Melbourne Money-style program state-wide, taking this promotional energy to our regional areas.

Another $30 million will be invested in entertainment vouchers to drive visitation to theatres, live entertainment venues, museums and galleries, along with other events; with a further $30 million allocated to another round of $200 travel vouchers to encourage Victorians to get out and explore their beautiful state. “It’s terrific to see that $30 million will be invested to take the highly successful Melbourne Money Scheme statewide given we know how well this has worked previously to get people out and about and spending in the city economy, said Ms Mariani.

“Another 150,000 travel vouchers coming into play later this month will be a tremendous boost to operators all across the state, but it’s really welcome to see this time around that $30 million will be allocated to entertainment vouchers that will mean our attractions, entertainment venues and cultural institutions can ‘feel the love’ as well.”

As a helping hand during the pandemic, you'll remember there were a few times the Victorian Government gave the state's residents free money, in the form of vouchers and spending rebates. Well now, it's brought back one of these popular initiatives, with a fresh round of cashback offers now up for grabs as part of the Victorian Dining and Entertainment Program.

First launched in March and returning from today, Monday, September 19, the Victorian Dining and Entertainment Program is once again saving punters money on things like meals out, live gigs, performances and gallery visits.

Victorians can claim up to 25 percent cash back when they spend $40 or more on dining or entertainment across the state — including purchases at cafes and restaurants; bars and pubs (but only if you buy food); registered clubs; breweries, distilleries and wineries (again, food has to be purchased); and fast food and takeaway outlets.

That means you can make your way to cinemas, exhibitions, conferences, museums, galleries and zoos — and live performances such as theatre, music, comedy, literary events and fashion shows, plus theme parks, water parks and amusement parks.

The cashback program is available to redeem on venues and events anywhere in the state, and there's no restrictions as to which days of the week you can take advantage of the offer. You can claim a total of $125, and you're allowed to spread that over multiple claims, rather than just one big bill.

That said, you'll want to get in quick to avoid missing out on your free money. $25 million has been earmarked for this latest round of the Victorian Dining and Entertainment Program, but if funds are exhausted early, it'll finish before the proposed claim cut-off date of December 16.

Victorian Energy Upgrades for households

Cut power bills and reduce emissions with discount energy-saving products.

On this page:

The Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program helps Victorians cut power bills and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Since 2009, the program has supported over 2 million households to upgrade their appliances and equipment. Products include lighting, space heating and cooling, water heating, and draft sealing.

Eligibility

Every Victorian household can participate in the program and be eligible for incentives for energy-efficient products and services.

Your participation is voluntary.

How much can I save?

The average household can save between $120 and $1,100 a year on energy costs depending on the upgrade.

Key steps when organising VEU installation

To get a discount on the installation of a heating and cooling system you must:

  • install an  approved product Hint: research these products for their suitability and quality. There are a lot of products approved for installation as part of VEU. Not all products are of the same quality or suitable for every environment.
  • work with an  accredited provider Hint: get quotes from several providers. Accredited providers offer different types of products, services, expertise and costs. Make sure to get a quote from several accredited providers on the final installed price of the appliance, which includes the discount.

For more information, visit about the VEU program.

Common questions we get asked about the VEU program

Common products not covered by the veu.

Under the VEU program there are currently no discounts available to directly replace/upgrade the following products:

  • switch boards
  • dishwashers
  • hydronic heating.

The primary purpose of the VEU program is to help Victoria reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by providing incentives to upgrade inefficient appliances. Whether a product is eligible to be upgraded under the VEU program will depend on the amount of greenhouse gas savings that will be achieved by upgrading that appliance.

These products do not currently qualify for the program, because the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from their upgrade is minimal.

The VEU program regularly reviews the range of energy efficiency upgrades available to receive incentives to make sure they continue to reduce emissions and save consumers money.

We recommend keeping an eye out for updates on the program and other incentives via the VEU industry latest news page.

To find out how the Victorian Government is helping our state navigate the path to net zero emissions while providing greater choice and cutting energy bills, see the Gas Substitution Roadmap .

Information for renters

Private rental properties are eligible to receive upgrades under the VEU program. However, we recommend that landlords and tenants work together when undertaking any upgrades to a property.

There are rules about the changes renters (tenants) can make to a property. They will often need permission from the rental provider (landlord). The rules depend on the:

  • type of changes the renter wants to make
  • type of rental property
  • length of the rental agreement (lease).

A rental provider may require that any changes are completed by a suitably qualified person. Consumer Affairs Victoria list types of changes that can be made with and without a landlord’s permission. This information can be found at the Consumer Affairs Victoria renters making changing to the property page .

Available upgrades for households and new builds

The below list shows all VEU household upgrades and: *if discounts are available for new builds *how many upgrades you can do and still qualify for a discount *any additional requirements you must meet to get a discount.

*No limit on number of upgrades you can do and still qualify for a discount.

VEU products

Clothes dryers for households, fridges and freezers, heating and cooling for households, home energy rating assessments, hot water systems for households, induction cooktops, in-home displays, lighting for households, pool pumps for households, shower heads for households, televisions for households, weather sealing, window glazing for households, your rights under the veu program.

The VEU program has a code of conduct that sets out minimum standards of behaviour. It is aimed at protecting consumers. The code applies to everyone involved in delivering or marketing upgrades.

Find out what an accredited provider or third party operating on their behalf must do if they contact you about the VEU program.

VEU for property managers

How to use the program.

By installing energy-efficient products, your landlord/building owner’s asset will be energy efficient and:

  • more attractive to prospective tenants as they are more comfortable and cheaper to live in
  • increase the property’s long-term value
  • require less maintenance and are less costly to run.

Note : In most instances, because of the VEU program, energy-efficient products are cheaper to install.

When you can use the program?

Your landlord/building owner can take up energy efficiency opportunities anytime. This includes emergencies where a critical appliance has failed. For example, a hot water system or ventilation system.

Instead of replacing like-for-like:

  • replace it with an energy-efficient product
  • take advantage of rebates through the Victorian Energy Upgrades program.

VEU for local councils

How to save for your community.

  • make energy-efficiency upgrades to your council premises or assets
  • save on your upgrade costs
  • help your community to save on their energy costs.

Another option is replacing your old inefficient street lighting with LEDs.

Become a Victorian Energy Upgrades champion

We can train your council to become a Victorian Energy Upgrades champion, so your community can benefit. Training would include:

  • how the program works
  • what upgrades are available
  • how to receive rebates for upgrades under the program.

Members of your community can benefit from the program by receiving discounts on eligible upgrades for their homes or businesses. This would save them money on energy bills and help save the environment.

Contact us at [email protected] to get involved.

Victorian Energy Upgrades uptake rates

Do you want statistics on uptake rates by postcode or local government area (LGA)? These statistics may help your council identify energy efficiency opportunities for your community.

Email us at [email protected] for the latest data.

How the VEU program works?

Victorian Energy Upgrades is a government energy efficiency program. Households and businesses can receive rebates or discounts on energy-saving products. This helps cut power bills and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The Province is creating clearer pathways for international workers coming to B.C., making it harder   for predatory recruiters and other bad actors to take advantage of people.

To do this, the Province is updating the BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) selection criteria to better reflect the level of education, experience and language skills that set people up for career success in British Columbia. These updates will lead to better outcomes for people and help them understand what is required to be nominated for permanent residency in Canada through the BC PNP.

The BC PNP is one of several pathways available to newcomers who want to build a good life in British Columbia. It is the Province’s only tool for directly selecting immigrants for permanent residency. The program helps identify people who will strengthen B.C.’s economy and prioritizes workers in health care, construction, early childhood education and other in-demand jobs.

The BC PNP is competitive, but some recruiters misrepresent it as an easy pathway to permanent residency. These updates will give people a better understanding of the education, experience and language skills that they need to be considered for nomination.

The program updates align with new measures to protect international students from predatory institutions and recruiters, such as:

  • a new three-stream structure for graduates of bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate programs;
  • increased language requirements for most streams; and
  • continued prioritization for people who work in-demand jobs and bring economic benefit to B.C.
