How Much Does a 16 Foot Scamp Trailer Cost?

16 Foot Scamp Trailer

Scamp trailers are some of the most popular stand-up campers on the road today , thanks to their ultra-lightweight construction, minimalist design, and durable fiberglass shell.

Available in three different models, including the Scamp 13 foot, the Scamp 16 foot, and the lesser-known Scamp 19 foot fifth wheel.

The Scamp 16-foot is a great option for those who want an ultra-lightweight camper but need more interior space than what the smallest 13-foot version offers.

But just how much does a 16-foot Scamper trailer cost ?

The 16-foot Scamp starts at around $17,000 with minimal options and no bathroom and can cost as much as $25,000 for the deluxe fully loaded version with a bathroom.

To find out what the exact cost of a 16-foot Scamp trailer is though, you will have to contact Scamp directly by calling their toll-free number at 1-800-346-4962 or emailing them at: [email protected].

As each Scamp trailer is custom-built for each customer, which can have a big impact on the final price of the camper.

But if you’re curious about what affects the price of the 16-foot Scamp trailer, keep reading.

As we provide all the key differences and options that can affect the price of the 16-foot Scamp trailer.

What Affects the Price of a 16-Foot Scamp Trailer?

Four main factors affect the cost of the Scamp 16, which include its version, floorplan, options, and whether it has a bathroom or not.

Scamp 16 Standard Vs. Deluxe Version

Standard vs Deluxe Scamp Interior

The first thing that affects the price of the 16-foot Scamp is whether it’s the standard or deluxe version of the camper.

The deluxe version costs several thousand dollars more compared to the standard version, due to the solid oak or solid birch cabinets that are offered on the deluxe version.

This provides a substantial upgrade over the standard version, which only provides molded fiberglass cabinets with wood panel doors .

The deluxe wood interior gives the Scamp a much more luxurious and put-together look on the inside.

As you can see from the above photo, which shows both the standard as well as the deluxe Scamp interior.

16-Foot Scamp Floorplans

The Scamp 16′ is available in nine different floorplans across the standard and deluxe versions of the camper, which can have a big impact on price.

As some floorplans cost considerably more compared to others, due to the different features and amenities that they offer.

Bathroom Verses No Bathroom

Another factor that can affect the cost of the 16-foot Scamp is whether or not the trailer is equipped with a bathroom , as not all 16-foot Scamp floorplans offer a bathroom .

In fact, out of the nine floorplans offered on the 16-foot Scamp, three of them don’t have bathrooms.

Layouts with a bathroom, generally, cost more than ones that don’t, due to the added build cost associated with the wet bath.

This not only includes the added cost of the bathroom plumbing fixtures, such as the shower, bathroom sink, and flush toilet but also the additional rough-in plumbing requirements and fiberglass surround.

Optional Equipment on the Scamp 16 that Adds Additional Cost

The final item that can affect the cost of the 16-foot Scamp is how the trailer is optioned out.

Scamp offers a wide variety of options to choose from, allowing campers to customize their Scamp to their particular needs and wants.

Giving campers the ability to choose from a very basic simple build-out up to a fully loaded one and everything in between.

So to give you an idea of some of the available options and to see how they affect the price of the Scamp, we’ve listed some of the most popular Scamp options below and their corresponding prices.

Popular Scamp Trailer Options

  • Roof Fan – $250
  • Roof Air Conditioner – $799
  • 16,000 BTU Furnace – $420
  • Outdoor Shower – $400
  • Backsplash – $100
  • Back-Up Camera – $500
  • Awning – $1,050
  • Solar Panel Kit – $475
  • TV Package – $800

*For the most up-to-date pricing on options, make sure to check with Scamp directly, as Scamp updates their pricing pretty frequently.

How Much Does a 16-Foot Scamp Trailer Weigh?

16 Foot Scamp Trailer

Scamp trailers are some of the lightest campers on the road today. thanks to their smaller size, minimalist design, and lightweight fiberglass shell, which requires no internal framework.

Making Scamp trailers the ideal choice for smaller tow vehicles with minimal towing capacities.

But if you’re trying to figure out if your particular vehicle can tow a 16-foot Scamp trailer, you’re probably wondering how much the 16-foot Scamp weighs.

The 16-foot Scamp trailer has a dry weight or base weight of 1,750 to 2,000 pounds for the standard version and a dry weight or base weight of 2,200 to 2,600 pounds for the deluxe version, depending on how it’s optioned out.

Remember though that the dry weight or base weight of a camper and the fully loaded weight can be quite different, once fully loaded with cargo, gear, and supplies.

For example, a fully loaded 16-foot Scamp trailer will usually weigh closer to 3,000 pounds once fully loaded.

To see how much the 13-foot and 19-foot Scamp trailers weigh, check out our blog post “ How Much Does a Scamp Trailer Weigh? “.

What Vehicles Can Tow a 16-Foot Scamp Trailer?

Since a fully loaded 16-foot Scamp camper will typically weigh close to 3,000 pounds, it’s best to choose a tow vehicle that has a max towing capacity of at least 3,500 pounds.

This is because, you always want to abide by the 80 Rule when towing, which states that you should never pull more than 80 percent of the max tow capacity of the vehicle.

This practice helps to provide some cushion while towing and prevent early wear and tear on the tow vehicle.

With this in mind, below we’ve listed a handful of popular tow vehicles that have a max tow capacity of at least 3,500 pounds.

Popular Vehicles that Can Comfortably Tow a 16-Foot Scamp Trailer

  • Honda Pilot – 3,500 to 5,000 Pound Max Tow Capacity
  • Ford Ranger – 3,500 Pound Max Tow Capacity
  • Toyota 4Runner – 5,000 Pound Max Tow Capacity
  • Toyota Tacoma – 3,500 to 6,800 Pound Max Tow Capacity
  • Ford Explorer – 5,000 to 5,600 Pound Max Tow Capacity
  • Chevrolet Colorado – 3,500 to 7,000 Pound Max Tow Capacity
  • Toyota Highlander – 5,000 Pound Max Towing Capacity
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee – 6,200 Pound Max Tow Capacity

What is the Height of a 16-foot Scamp Trailer?

The 16-foot Scamp trailer has an exterior height of 7 feet 10 inches and an interior height of 6 feet 3 inches.

Allowing most people to stand up inside the camper with relative ease.

However, due to the low-hanging items inside the camper such as built-in cabinets, vent fans, and AC units, as well as the rounded tapered corners inside the trailer, taller campers will need to watch their head and be mindful of low clearance areas inside the trailer while walking around.

Other 16′ Scamp Trailer Specs

  • Overall Length :  16 Feet
  • Interior Length :  13 Feet
  • Exterior Width :  6 Feet 8 Inches
  • Interior Width :  6 Feet 6 Inches
  • Hitch Weight :  165 Pounds
  • Hitch Ball Size :  2 Inch
  • Type of Power :  30 Amp
  • Frame :  11 Gauge Steel Tube
  • Tires :  13 Inch C Load Radial
  • Brakes :  10 Inch Electric
  • Axle :  3,500 Pound Torsion Axle

How Many Campers Does a 16′ Scamp Sleep?

16 Foot Scamp Interior

The 16′ Scamp trailer can sleep anywhere from 2 to 4 campers, depending on the floorplan and how it’s configured.

Some of the floorplans offered on the 16-foot Scamp trailer can sleep more campers than others.

For example, the Standard Layout 3 on the 16-foot Scamp (floorplan pictured above) has a 4-person sleeping capacity, thanks to its convertible dinette booth at the rear of the camper and bunk beds at the front.

While Standard Layout 6 on the 16-foot Scamp (floorplan pictured above) only has a 3-person sleeping capacity, as it only offers the rear convertible dinette booth and another single convertible dinette booth in the middle of the camper for sleeping.

Can a Scamp Trailer Fit in a Garage?

Scamp trailers are too tall to fit inside of a standard garage , due to their 7 foot 10 inch height.

As standard garage doors are typically only 7 feet tall regardless of whether it’s a single or double garage door.

Where are Scamp Trailers Made?

Scamp trailers are made in the USA in Backus, Minnesota, which is about 3 hours north of Minneapolis.

By a company called Eveland’s Inc., which first began making Bolar trailers in 1971, before Bolar went out of business shortly thereafter.

Forcing Eveland’s Inc. to start producing their own trailers under the new name of Scamp in 1972.

Now more than 50 years later, Scamp trailers are one of the most sought-after and popular lightweight stand-up campers on the road today.

With customers often waiting 6 months or more just to get their hands on a new one, and used ones being sold almost as soon as they hit the secondary market.

Items: Towels, Toaster, George Foreman Grill, Frying Pan, Bed Sheet Set, Comforter with Duvet Cover, 3 small rugs, folder with owner manuals I invested 5 years of time and over $25,000 to develop this RV Camper. I started with a Scamp 5th Wheel because its only 6' 8" wide allowing it to get into real tight places. I stripped the original Scamp out completely including the frame. Yes, I started with just the original Fiberglass Shell and original windows. I added fenders, a back storage compartment for the generator plus extra storage for misc items. Then I redesigned the frame and interior. All interior cabinets are 3/4" plywood that is screwed together every 2" - 3" apart with construction adhesive being used . This is one solid trailer. I have always said that you could crash, roll over and over down an embankment and it would stay in one piece. Just hook it back up and go on your way. Modifications completed in 2005. The new owner of this trailer (an explorer or adventurer, a hunter or fisherman) will find this trailer to be uniquely comfortable. Whether your in a snow storm or a down pour, in desert heat or northern sub-zero temps, this camper is extremely cozy. If you are 6'4" tall, this probably won't work for you. I'm 5'11" tall and can stand up tall anywhere inside or stretch out full height in the sleeping bunk - so 6" tall would probably be about the comfortable height limit. Insulated great - with 4 adults inside the trailer in 45 degrees temperatures, you won't need the furnace. Just the body heat will keep it comfortable inside. Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4

What Does a Scamp Trailer Cost? (Used and New Price List)

  • July 20, 2021 /
  • By James V. /

The cost is in the details . Base price is just that, a starting point. Unfortunately, the price only goes in one direction after that-- up. Your costs for any RV will depend on all the added features you want inside. The Scamp RV company is not going to be any different in this regard.

What does a Scamp trailer cost? One prospective buyer reported that the 2021 16’ trailer would cost roughly $19,000. That is just with the standard options package. You have to email Scamp directly in order to get a current price list.

To learn more about the cost of Scamp trailers, just continue to read our article. It has the information you want to know about. Keep in mind that prices may be inflated at this time, and the bubble may burst shortly after you purchase your Scamp trailer

How Much is a 13ft Scamp Trailer?

How-Much-is-a-13ft-Scamp-Trailer

If you just want the basic package, then you are looking at paying roughly $15,000 for a nice 13-foot trailer. This is the base price for the standard model, and if you want a bathroom included, you will be paying a little more.

The cost of the trailers with features not included in the base package will range between $18,000 and $22,000. The difference in prices is not only due to the many extra features included, but that Scamp builds their trailers according to their customers.

Each trailer is custom-built, and you will pay for that special attention to your trailer. These prices are subject to change as Scamp does not publicly release its price lists. You have to contact them at 1-800-346-4962 or emailing them at [email protected] to get their current price list.

Just so you know, the difference in cost between a new 2020 model and a new 2021 trailer is about $600, with the latter being the higher of the two prices. If you are going used, the cost of a 13-foot trailer will be up to the individual owner, and some owners are taking advantage of the current world situation to make their money back on their investment.

How Much Does a 19-foot Scamp Trailer Cost?

How-Much-Does-a-19-foot-Scamp-Trailer-Cost

The starting price runs around $20,000 just for the standard basic package. There are few features with this package, and you can pay up to $30,000 with added features. Your actual cost new will depend on Scamp’s asking price for the different features you want to have inside.

Also, you need to be aware that the 19-foot Scamp option is a 5th wheel trailer and not a regular bumper tow one. This design provides you with a lot more interior space than the 13 and 16-foot models.

That extra space is a nice selling point when you need room when you are on vacation. The good thing about buying a 19-footer is that all design layouts include a toilet. If you think that is not a good item to highlight, keep in mind that many Scamp trailer designs do not include a toilet.

2 of the 5 standard 16-foot layouts are missing this important feature, and 1 of the 4 deluxe designs is missing it as well. To discuss the different price options, you can visit their loan factory direct dealer in Backus, Minnesota.

You will get all the up-to-date pricing you want by talking to the people at this dealership or by using the contact information already provided above.

Scamp Fifth Wheel Prices

Scamp-Fifth-Wheel-Prices

The 5th wheel prices will be the same as the 19-foot prices. That is the design that the trailer comes in, and there is no upgrade to the price for that design. This design is on both the standard and deluxe models.

It may be a good reason to upgrade and pay the extra money as the 19-foot 5th wheel model provides a lot more space than the 13 or 16-foot models. The reason we say that is that Scamp measures its length from the end of the tongue to the bumper. You may not get 13 or 16 feet of space inside those smaller trailers.

At least with the 5th wheel, you get some space over the hitch you can use, which allows for greater living space inside. Even if it is the 5th wheel, the trailer will not weigh you down and cost you a lot of money in fuel to tow.

These trailers may only weigh just under 3,000 pounds with all the features added. That is not bad when you want to save on your fuel costs. Going used may be the best way to save on the purchase price as they run around $8,000 more or less.

New Scamp Trailer Price List

New-Scamp-Trailer-Price-List

This is something you have to get through Scamp itself. As we stated earlier, they do not publicly post their price lists, and since this is the middle of 2021, any current prices will not be the same for next year.

This time last year, the company was taking orders for 2021 and not building for any 2020 deliveries. It can be concluded the situation is the same for this year since so many people put their orders in last year for this year’s models.

We have posted their contact information and dealership location earlier, and that is the best source to go to. That way you know exactly how much you will pay. We say that every owner is different, and their costs will depend on how many features they add to the basic package.

There is a wide range of features and options you can add on, and Scamp has individual prices for each one. People are posting different price lists that they receive from Scamp, but so far, none have been for 2022. The price lists they post are outdated.

One example is that the price between the 2020 and the 2021 models for the same trailer size is $600. That was for the basic standard package. it is hard to say how much the price increased for next year’s models.

Scamp Trailer Prices Used

We are going to provide you with a little comparison chart of different prices for used trailers . There is n particular order, and there is no guarantee the prices will remain at the reported levels. This chart is just to give you an idea of what you can expect to pay:

The other thing you have to be aware of is that different used trailer dealers will price their Scamp trailers differently. If you find one that is in good shape and listed well below the above prices, then take it. It looks to be a better deal.

Individual owners will set their prices according to their sentiment, their own personal cost, use, and so on. Expect a very wide range in prices when you look at classified ads, etc.

Who knows, the used trailer market may collapse once everything returns to normal. You may get an even better deal when it does.

2023 Standard Options

The following list is taken directly from the Scamp website to let you know what you can expect to find in a standard package for a 19-foot 5th wheel trailer. Notice this is not for next year’s models but for the models the year after that.

  • 2 Burner Propane Stove
  • Prep For A/C
  • Kitchen Sink
  • Cabinet Over Sink
  • Spare Tire & Cover
  • Mounted Rear Jacks
  • Outside Step
  • Electric Brakes
  • 2” Receiver
  • Dual Propane Tanks
  • LED Exterior Lights
  • 45 Amp Power Converter
  • Outside GFI Outlet
  • Grey Water Tank
  • 12 Volt Water Pump
  • Propane Water Heater
  • 3.7 cu. ft. Refrigerator
  • 24 Series Battery Pack
  • Screen Door
  • Rear Overhead Cabinets
  • Battery Disconnect Switch
  • Silverware Drawer

We checked the 13 and 16-foot web pages, and they are listing the 2023 features as well. Call Scamp and see what kind of waiting list you will be put on if you want to order a new trailer. It may be wiser to buy used instead of having to wait.

Some Final Words

In looking at the Scamp trailers, these little RVs seem perfect for those who do not have children. They are great for when you are young and getting ready to start a family.

Plus, they are excellent for when you are retired and your children are grown. Their small size and lightweight make them easy to tow and maneuver as well.

SOLD - 2017 16' Scamp Deluxe - $20,500 - Boulder, CO

This was the travel trailer we had been dreaming of when we purchased it in 2020. It had one previous owner, who used it for one trip and took meticulous care of it. We towed the trailer from his home to ours, where it has sat, unmoved for 2.5 years. We are selling it because we literally haven't used it, not even once. We have however, upgraded some significant things that come included in the price of the trailer such as a 6", custom fit, memory foam mattress ($450 value), an unused rv tote tank ($190), an unopened wireless back-up camera ($140), and several other extras such as a stocked tool box and heavy duty trailer lock. While we haven't traveled or used the trailer outside of the occasional tea party, we have taken care of it as though we were going to keep it forever.
