  • Dinner and Shopping

Day 2 You'll See:

  • Dreamworks Waterpark or Big SNOW

Day 3 You'll See:

Times Square

Top of the Rock

Central Park

This 3-day itinerary is a really fun option for groups wanting to experience one of the biggest, newest, and most entertaining malls in the country, the American Dream Mall, as well as a little taste of NYC!

American Dream Mall - East Rutherford, New Jersey

This astonishing retail and entertainment complex is revolutionary, the first of its kind offering guests not only the opportunity to shop and eat, but also to play, stay, and vacay! Consider this mall a 'staycation' destination, not a shopping trip. It will officially be ranked as the second-largest mall in America, the third-largest in North America. American Dream includes over 450 shops, services, and amenities, as well as over 15 attractions that include North America’s largest fully-enclosed DreamWorks Water Park and Nickelodeon Universe Theme Park; Big SNOW Indoor Ski & Snow Park, SEA Life Aquarium, LEGOLAND Discovery Center, CMX Luxury Movie Theater, a 300' Observation Wheel, and much more. The mall will also feature over 15 full-service restaurants!

We suggest you spend your first day at the Nickelodeon Universe Theme Park, ending your day with dinner and shopping here at the mall.

American Dream Mall

Continue your second day at the American Dream Mall, and choose between the DreamWorks Water Park or Big SNOW Indoor Ski & Snow Park. End your day here with shopping and dining again.

You can find everything you want, except perhaps peace and quiet, on the streets in and surrounding Times Square. This entertainment district runs the full gamut of amusements from live performances to Madame Tussaud’s wax museum, over a hundred restaurants, and countless shops. Take a tour of the area and possibly meet some Broadway actors after their performances, see the famed Coca-cola sign, Chevrolet clock, and explore the exhibits at the Discovery Times Square museum. See a show at The Orion or the Paramount Theatre, see where ABC’s Good Morning America is filmed at Times Square Studios, or check out the new exhibitions at the Museum of Modern Art.

You haven't seen New York until you've seen it from the Top of the Rock, one of the cities, and perhaps countries, greatest observation decks. This Rockefeller Center observatory is styled in an ocean-liner fashion, providing some of the most epic photo ops in the entire city. You will be able to catch 'sweeping, unobstructed views of both Central Park and Manhattan Midtown' here, a truly unmissable NYC experience.

Jog the paved pathways, picnic on the lawns, or take your dog through the park on a nice Spring day. If you enjoy nature, boat along the lake, sit and watch the flowing waterfall at the Loch, explore Shakespeare Garden, or sit and read on Cherry Hill or the Great Lawn. Explore iconic Central Park features like the Mall and Literary Walk or the dozens of sculptures and fountains that decorate the landscape. See beautiful renditions of Alice in Wonderland, Simon Bolivar, Ludwig van Beethoven, the hero dog Balto, Romeo and Juliet, and the gorgeous Bethesda Fountain to name a few.

  • vasuv313 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Needs better maintenance Really gross - it was the end of a Saturday so perhaps the worst it gets but there was blood on the walkways, pieces of people's weaves, an entire meal that someone had dropped on the edge of the pool. The changing rooms were also super dirty. Makes me nauseous just thinking about it. It is an amazing place for families but they need to do more to keep it hygienic. Read more Written March 17, 2024
  • RonMulville 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Fun but expensive!! Great place but WAAAAAY too expensive. $23 per person to play a mini golf course that wasn't even mediocre. $16.50 for a basic cheeseburger, and $5 just to park, etc...other than that it is a lot of fun and has stuff to do for everyone. • 112noahg 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Not worth the money. I went to Nickelodeon, for the price $79 was not worth it, all the rides was not open so that was more of a bummer enough there isn’t much rides. Over all the theme was cute. But won’t be visiting again. Read more Written March 10, 2024

  • megantQ4287KJ 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Decent Mall This mall is worth the trip. The water park is decent. It is very chlorinated, so just be prepared. The theme park area, is amazing for younger kids. I would say it is best for up to ages 6 to 8. They have a decent amount of stores, they have a list of them on their site. My first time visiting, they lacked food options, but this year I visited and they have definitely added food. The Lululemon store was a let down. I would just skip this Lululemon and go to the Manhattan location. Read more Written March 3, 2024
  • johncM2673PI 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Best time ever Best time ever, so much fun I’m 61 and my son is 24. We had the best time down the slides and the huge beach like atmosphere as well as the jacuzzi. We had lunch at the food court then back to the water park. Then shopping and candy at the sugar candy store. Only $5.00 for parking you can’t beat that. Everything is indoors. This is my second time and I live deep in Long Island but so worth the drive. • Kristine J 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Yes, it’s worth it. I wanted to visit American Dream before it sadly yet inevitably becomes another abandoned mall. I felt like I was on a Carnival cruise while having a fever dream. To start- Parking is crazy. There’s a huge lack of clear signage so unless you take photos or pin your vehicle location, you’ll spend a long time trying to find your car at the end of your trip. Everything looks the same and there are different floors, courts, rows, etc with corresponding numbers- but nothing is intuitive. Additionally, the parking space signage is also branded with the American dream logo “A” which also confuses things a bit because the “A” looks like it refers to a parking level. I have no tips, other than pay attention to where you park and where you walk in! Overall, even in the actual mall, signage is confusing and just overall bad. The interactive directory map you need to scan with your phone is also useless most of the time. Once you get in the mall, the decor and cleanliness is top notch- which is kind of crazy considering I did not see a lot of trash cans. Nothing felt dirty or sketchy. Check out the luxury wing - decor is immaculate… but the vibe in this wing is….off. It was a ghost town when we walked through…. All these high end stores with no customers. Koi ponds and fountains… but nothing else…It was eerie. Lots of empty space for retail tenants - which was a trend throughout. The value of the entertainment aspect depends on what you want to do. We did not do the water park but it looks like it has enough to offer- the admission is high compared to outdoor water parks, but comparable to nearby indoor parks. The Nickelodeon theme park is a rip off. We could only buy day passes the day we went ($79) and all of the coasters except one were closed “for maintenance.” The lines were long. We chose to skip this which was a bummer. It sounds like the park is never really fully functional- so if you’re planning on centering your visit on this, make sure you check which rides are offline. Big Snow was great fun and worth the $60 two-hour pass (we had our own equipment). We did not do any other entertainment. Dining options are weak. It was cool to check out Mr. Beast, but it was basic Hamburg and fries (Sysco) food. The Ugly Donut was pretty good, but pricey. Best Pizza was meh. The shopping options are great. Would I visit again? Yes, but maybe not until the amusement park is steadily functioning. It’s truly a sparkly, pretty place, but at times feels empty and as if the project was never fully completed (it wasn’t). There are staircases to nowhere and so many fake walls covering empty space. But it’s a good way to spend a day! Read more Written February 20, 2024
  • sell2u 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Great time!!! This is a mall you could probably spend the whole day at filled with activities. Look you are in Bergen County right outside NYC, expect to pay those prices…. Parking was tough on a holiday, but that’s expected. Overall it was very clean with many options of activities from 15-$100. We did golf and the ropes course which was around 100 for 3 of us.. we decided not to eat there due to the crowds and us being familiar with the area.. will go again to check out Big Snow and the water park. My visit was on Presidents’ Day so it was loaded with families looking for things to do! Read more Written February 20, 2024
  • RONALDG836 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Hours to park & Hours to leave This mall is amazing. It is huge and it draws huge crowds. It took us 45 minutes to find a parking spot and that only was because I bribed an attendant to let us into a closed garage. Otherwise, you hod to park in some overflow lot that I wanted no part of. The next day, it took over an hour to get out of the B1 garage - ridiculous! Also, be aware that due to "blue laws" most all the stores are closed on Sundays. Read more Written February 18, 2024

The line was already wrapped around the mall. They let you in 15 min early and the line moves quick. Check in was wonderful. The bathrooms/changing areas were very difficult to navigate. Men, women and children is all of them dispute the signs saying only men with children and only women with children. Many men walking around in the women's section. It's chaos. We only did the wave pool and hot tube, which was great! Definitely but a tube for $10 at quest service. The kids had a blast! The hot tub is VERY chemically!! Everyone was coughing from the smell. We didn't do any slides, the kids were fine with the wave pool for 6 hrs!! We left for dinner at Mr beast in the mall then returned for 2 more hrs There very little life games on duty, watch your little ones!! Read more Written February 16, 2024

  • Jink906 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles MOSTLY CLOSED ON SUNDAYS!!!! MOSTLY CLOSED ON SUNDAYS!!!! This is a beautiful mall but a little confusing for a first time visitor. My friend and I planned the whole trip around the mall. Unfortunately, we planned Sunday as our shopping day for our New York/New Jersey trip. Unaware of a Blue Law from 1600's that makes it illegal to work on Sunday and 2/3 of the mall abides by the law. But there is a lot to see and do at the mall if you are not going there to shop. • luperodarte 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Horrendous parking won’t come back. Parking and leaving was horrendous. Pinch points, bottlenecks, slow pay machines had people on edge trying to get out. You literally had nothing here and could have designed things any way you wanted — ideally in a way that benefited paying customers. But no. Some morons went and created another terrible parking experience. Would likely not come back as I don’t want to be trapped in a parking lot for 30m fighting w other cars to get out. The Address: American Dream Mall East Rutherford, NJ

by Sarah Einhorn | Aug 17, 2023 | 1 comment

The Address is a unique department store. They developed a unique concept of a department store featuring popular brands of modest clothing all in one store. The Address is the only modest brand department store around featuring men’s, women’s, children’s and baby clothing and accessories.

The Address has a relaxing upper-class vibe with brands for all budgets.

The Address includes brands such as Apparelel, Point, Daniella Faye, Udel, Luna Mae, The Shell Station, Lil Legs, Petit Clair and so many more brands that I can’t list them all.

In true department store fashion, the Address does not only have clothing and accessories for sale. There is a section by Toys R US, gifts by Waterdale, Artscroll seforim and books are sold there.

The Family Lounge at The Address is set up with many couches bean bags and some activities for children. The mini café has kosher coffee and pastries for sale and is a great place for non-shoppers in the family to hang out (every family has those:)

The Address is an experience not just a practical place to but what you need.

What to know about American Dream Mall and NY Waterway's ferry–bus service

We're patiently (read: not-so-patiently) waiting for  American Dream Mall  to blow our socks off.

The three-million-square-foot entertainment hub is gearing up for an Oct 25 opening, and its features include a Nickelodeon theme park, DreamWorks water park, the nation's first indoor snow park and, of course, plenty of shopping and dining options (though some offerings will open later in 2019 and early 2020, so plan ahead ). It's bound to land on your list of favorite  family attractions , and we're certain it is worth a trek across the Hudson.

Yes, traveling to Jersey can be tricky, but there's good news—especially for NYC families who only rely on the subway. American Dream just announced a partnership with NY Waterway , so there's no need to rent a car for those day trips from NYC .

“We’re thrilled to partner with NY Waterway to provide American Dream guests and employees with a convenient, simple way to access our property from Manhattan,” Don Ghermezian, CEO of American Dream said in a statement. “We expect families both living in and visiting New York City to frequent our property, and I can’t think of a better way to begin the world-class experience than a short ride across the Hudson River with breathtaking views of Manhattan.”

Here's how it works:

Beginning on Oct 28 , NY Waterway’s free multi-route shuttle buses (which run throughout the day) will bring visitors to the W 39th Street Midtown Ferry Terminal, where they'll embark on an eight-minute trip across the river to Port Imperial in Weehawken, NJ. (Ferries run every 10 minutes during morning and evening rush hours, and every 20 minutes during off-peak times.)

From there, dedicated shuttles (which run every 20 minutes on weekends and frequently throughout the week) will take guests to the mall, which is a 20-minute drive. Ferry and shuttle e-tickets can be purchased online for $16 each way and they must be redeemed at Midtown Terminal Ticket Office before boarding.

Have a look at the ferry schedule online before making your trip!

No need to worry about those car sing alongs now! (And what kid isn't up for quick boat ride?) We'll see you on the other side of the river.

To learn more about the service and purchasing tickets, visit nywaterway.com/americandream . Be sure to check out our favorite fall activities for kids , too!

All 10 American Dream Mall restaurants, ranked worst to best

I n case you haven’t driven through Bergen County in, let’s see, the last two decades or so, New Jersey has been the home to America’s second-largest mall: American Dream . The massive complex next to MetLife Stadium occupies about 3 million square feet and five floors just off Route 3 in East Rutherford.

As American Dream houses a Nickelodeon theme park, a year-round water park, indoor skiing and snowboarding , an aquarium, mini golf and more than 450 stores, a visit to the mega-mall can be completely overwhelming. Between all the fun attractions and the shopping, you’re bound to get hungry and probably have no idea where to eat. Within the levels, you’ll find multiple restaurants which offers everything from classic American fare to upscale Italian, plus Chinese, Peruvian and more.

Here are the 10 full-service (with wait staff) restaurants in American Dream, ranked worst to best.

10. Carpaccio

There is so much good Italian food in New Jersey. There are so many great malls in New Jersey. Please, for the love of Tony Soprano, don’t go looking for good Italian food in a New Jersey mall. You will not find it here. Carpaccio actually builds some pretty impressive ambiance for a restaurant in a mall, dimly lit with a bar that glows orange and will light up your Aperol Spritz and make it delightfully Instagrammable. The pleasing scent of wood-fired pizza hits your nose as soon as you walk in. But that smell is better than anything tastes here. Both the meatballs ($22) and chicken marsala ($35) are bland, the goat cheese ravioli ($31) stodgy in texture and meager in portion size. The desserts were actually excellent — especially the chocolate soufflé ($13) — but there’s simply too much good Italian food in this state to subject yourself to something this soulless and expensive. (JS)

9. Vinoteca

Here’s how Vinoteca works: You’re given a smart card which you can use to sample the bar’s wine selections (one ounce, three ounces or five ounces) or four beers on tap. Along with its selection of alcoholic beverages, it has a menu with light Italian bites like paninis, flatbreads, salads and charcuterie boards. I tried the pesto mozzarella flatbread ($6.95), and split the meat and cheese board ($15) with a friend, which paired fine with the red and white wines. It’s a fun spot to stop by if you want a break from shopping and are looking for a quick bite to eat and a glass (or two) of wine — but compared to the other sit-down restaurants, the food is average and not quite as filling. The charcuterie board was something I could have put together myself for free, while some of the other items tasted like something from Panera Bread. (SB)

8. MrBeast Burger

When MrBeast Burger opened its first-ever brick-and-mortar location here , literally thousands of customers mobbed the mall for a chance to try it. Fans of burgers? Maybe. But mostly, fans of the YouTube star behind the burgers. I still don’t understand why Jimmy Donaldson, he of nearly 240 million YouTube subscribers, is in the fast-food game. But here we are. Can burgers that draw thousands of fans live up to hype? Not really. The MrBeast burgers came out cold and salty. All I know is there’s a Wendy’s at American Dream that makes a better burger for cheaper. Save yourself the line and some money and head there. (JS)

7. Yard House

Yard House is a casual dining chain based out of Orlando. If you come to a casual dining chain based out of Orlando expecting an elite dining experience, you have no one to blame but yourself. But if you want to watch some sports and dozens of TV screens, try a couple of their more than 100 beers on tap and munch some bar bites? Well, you could do a lot worse. Nothing on the menu will blow you away, and it’s possible that the chain is simply trying to do too much with its offerings. Poke, avocado toast, tacos, garlic noodles, burgers, wings and cheese curds? That’s a pretty big yard. The chicken nachos ($15.99) were underwhelming, the tacos ($6.29) far too salty but the the turkey club sandwich ($16.49) surprisingly good. The restaurant has windows that overlook Big Snow, American Dream’s indoor skiing and snowboarding slope, which is very cool. Keep it simple here and you’ll enjoy yourself. But you can definitely do better. (JS)

6. Mozzarella Bar

Look for the glimmering gold decor on the mall’s third level and you’ll find Mozzarella Bar. As one might expect, the menu has a section exclusively for its Mozzarella-based dishes and I tried the mozzarella caprese, which had heirloom tomatoes and pesto olives, and tasted fresh — something you’d hope for at a restaurant with mozzarella in the name. Burrata (a mozzarella shell wrapped around a mixture of cheese curd and cream topped with basil, evoo and tomatoes), prosciutto mozzarella, and fried mozzarella were some of the other mozzarella dishes to choose from. I was also a fan of the espresso martini, which was a nice pick-me-up. But for the entrees, I went with a classic Italian dish — spaghetti pomodoro ($17.50) — which was bland and underwhelming. (SB)

5. Around the Clock Diner

As New Jersey is diner capital of the world, standards for any such locale — even in a mall — are exceedingly high. Around the Clock Diner has everything from breakfast eats like pancakes and waffles to omelets. I tried the Jersey disco fries (this version features cherry peppers) and a half-and-half burger (50% prime beef, 50% bacon), which were serviceable. While this spot doesn’t compare with some of New Jersey’s most elite diners, which offer more flavor and authenticity, it’s a suitable option if you find yourself craving diner food like a Taylor ham while at American Dream. (SB)

4. House of ‘Que

Nothing says barbecue country like the swamps of the Meadowlands, right? House of ‘Que, which also has a Hoboken location, promises “authentic Austin barbecue.” While I wouldn’t go that far, it certainly scratches the itch if you’re craving smoked meats slathered in sauce. Brisket, sausage, chicken, pork shoulder and pork ribs are all at your carnivorous disposal. Those were all fine, but it was the sides that impressed most. The smoked wings in spicy barbecue sauce ($18.55) were crispy, succulent and flavorful — the sauce so good I found myself dunking their delightfully starchy fries ($9.10). The fried pickles ($12.50) were also superb, with tasty ranch dressing for dipping. And if you’ve never had a Frito pie ($7.45) before, essentially chili and cheese served in a bag of Fritos, make sure you try one here. The atmosphere here is no frills and fun — even up here in New Jersey we know you shouldn’t make a barbecue joint fancy. There are plenty of televisions here as well, a solid place to watch football if you can’t score a ticket next door at MetLife. (JS)

3. Szechuan Opera

Founded by Chinese-American brothers in New York in 2019, Szechuan food (a cuisine originating in Sichuan and known for its use of garlic and various hot peppers) was brought to New Jersey with tasty results. From the dim sum menu, I tried the soup dumplings, and black truffle with mixed mushroom dumplings — the latter of which I enjoyed for the bright, bold combination of truffle and mushroom. From the traditional Szechuan menu, some of my favorites were the noodle with soy bean paste appetizer, and the dry pot style chicken and tofu dishes, which are served in a sizzling mini wok with a combination of mushrooms, broccoli, and red chili pepper cooked in spicy hot pot sauce. While there’s better Szechuan restaurants in the Garden State, this is a more-than-fine option for a mall. (SB)

2. Marcus Live! Bar & Grille

The newest restaurant at American Dream is nearly the best. Plenty of celebrities slap their names on restaurants that don’t come close to living up to their lofty standards. Not the case here with Marcus Samuelsson’s latest outpost, which is so good you will forget that you are eating at a mall. The brightly painted dining room with record covers adorning the wall make for a festive vibe, and the southern food will make you feel closer to the Superdome in New Orleans than MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. Briny oysters on the half-shell ($21 for a half-dozen). Chicken and waffles with chili butter and a maple glaze ($29). Zesty shrimp and grits with chorizo gumbo ($29). But the best thing we sampled here, perhaps the single best thing I ate during this entire mall tour? The brown sugar wings ($15), which were sweet, succulent and had me gnawing on the bones. I didn’t think fine dining belonged in a mall. But Marcus Live! has me questioning that. (JS)

Who could’ve guessed that the best restaurant in a New Jersey mall is a Peruvian gem with authentic flavor to spare? I previously ranked Jarana No. 3 on my list of greatest Peruvian restaurants in the state . With its expansive menu curated by chef Jesus Delgado and featuring classic Peruvian fare like ceviche (a seafood dish where sliced fish or shellfish is marinated in citrus juices), lomo saltado (a stir fry dish served with beef combined with vegetables, french fries or potatoes, typically served with rice), anticuchos (grilled skewers) or fusion dishes like tuna wantacos. For those overwhelmed by the menu’s many offerings, the “Experience Jarana” option ($49 per person) features a pre-planned, family-style course meal which includes some of its most popular items. Order a cocktail from the equally large drink menu (I enjoyed the Chilcano — a classic Peruvian cocktail with pisco). The restaurants offers a delicious take on Peruvian cuisine and the bright, colorful interior adds to the best vibe in this monstrous mall, shirking whatever uber-capitalist chaos exists just beyond its doors.
