Before you visit…

The Hawai‘i Tourism Authority advises travelers to check with individual accommodations, activities and businesses in West Maui for their availability and hours of operation. As travelers return to Maui after the devastating August wildfires, they will help to sustain jobs, keep businesses open, and support the community.

We urge all visitors to be especially mindful and respectful in the islands as the community continues through this tragedy.

Maui Wildfires

In August 2023, wildfires damaged a significant portion of West Maui, many lives were lost, and 2,200+ structures were destroyed -  making it the deadliest U.S. wildfire in over a century and Hawaii's worst natural disaster in modern history .

More information can be found on our   August 2023 Maui wildfire  page.

Remainder of West Maui Reopened November 1, 2023

In late September 2023, Maui's Mayor, Richard Bissen,  released brand-new details  about how the island will go about reopening the resort areas surrounding Lahaina, which will remain closed indefinitely.

The plan initially involved three phases, but the Mayor  reopened the rest of West Maui on November 1, 2023 .

Latest Pandemic Developments in Hawaii

Last updated:  december 16, 2022.

At this time, there are no pandemic travel-related restrictions for domestic travelers, and neither the Governor's office nor island mayors have indicated they plan to reintroduce any restrictions.

Travelers can check the state of Hawaii's confirmed cases here .

'Safe Travels' program & mask mandate both officially ended March 26, 2022

According to Governor Ige, the state of Hawaii dropped the 'Safe Travels' program for domestic U.S. travelers at midnight on  March 25, 2022 . Governor Ige has also announced the indoor mask mandate has ended as of March 26, 2022 . Masks may still be required on public transportation, such as buses, and within Hawaii’s airports.

That now means domestic travelers to Hawaii will no longer need to fill out online forms via Safe Travels, no longer have to worry about QR codes, no longer have to provide proof of vaccination, and ultimately, there won't be any additional requirements or restrictions to fly to Hawaii on a domestic flight.

On the county level, the County of Kauai, the County of Maui, and the County of Hawaii have repealed their COVID-19 Emergency Rules. The City and County of Honolulu's Safe Access Oahu program ended on Sunday, March 6, 2022.

" Safe Travels is one part of a multi-layer approach to COVID safety. The program played a key role in keeping Hawaii's residents safe before vaccinations were widely available, and during the surges we've seen through this pandemic ," said John De Fries, Hawaii Tourism Authority President and CEO. " Bringing the Safe Travels program to a close reflects the progress we have made as a state , and Governor Ige’s decision is a good balance of maintaining reasonable health precautions while reopening our society and economy ."

Canada issues advisory against non-essential travel to Maui due to wildfires

Global Affairs Canada has issued an advisory against non-essential travel to Maui, Hawaii as historic wildfires rage across the island.

The rapidly spreading wildfires are destroying sections of the island and have forced evacuations in some areas, including the popular tourist spot of Lahaina.

Jérémie Bérubé, a spokesperson for Global Affairs Canada, told CTVNews.ca that the federal department is closely monitoring the wildfires in Hawaii and consular officials are in contact with affected Canadians and family members.

  • Climate Barometer newsletter: Sign up for more on how a warming planet impacts you

“Canadians are strongly advised to exercise caution, monitor local news and weather reports and to follow the instructions of local authorities, including evacuation orders,” Bérubé said in a written statement.

Officials in Hawaii warned Thursday that the death toll -- already at 36 -- could rise, with the fires still burning and search and rescue teams spreading out to search charred areas.

So far, Global Affairs Canada is “not aware of any Canadians who have been killed or injured as a result of these wildfires,” Bérubé said.

On Thursday, Minister of Foreign Affairs Melanie Joly issued a statement of support for everyone affected by Hawaii’s fires.

“On behalf of all Canadians, I offer our heartfelt condolences to those who have lost family and friends and wish those who were injured a quick recovery,” Joly said in the statement.

“Our thoughts are with the people of Hawaii in this distressing time.”

Joly added that the U.S. is Canada’s “most important friend and ally,” and Canada stands “by their side as both countries battle unprecedented wildfires.”

The National Weather Service says Hurricane Dora, which is passing south of the island chain at a safe distance, was partly to blame for strong winds, which are driving the flames, knocking out power and grounding firefighting helicopters.

Canadians in need of emergency consular assistance may contact Global Affairs' Emergency Watch and Response Centre by calling +1 613 996 8885, texting +1 613-686-3658, via Telegram at Canada Emergency Abroad, via WhatsApp at +1 613-909-8881, or via Signal at +1-613-909-8087.

Update from HTA as Canada posts Maui travel advisory; WS extends Hawaii change policy

Post date: Aug 11 2023

Date: Aug 11 2023

By: The Associated Press

TORONTO — Search and rescue efforts continue in Lahaina, as Maui and the state of Hawaii try to come to terms with the damage and human toll wrought by wildfires.

The Lahaina wildfire is still active and the number of deaths on the island has increased to 55, according to Maui County.

Maui County Mayor Richard Bissen Jr. surveyed the damage in Lahaina yesterday. “The closest thing I think I can compare it to is perhaps a war zone, or maybe a bomb went off,” he told ABC’s ‘Good Morning America’ this morning. “It was cars in the street, doors open, melted to the ground. Most structures no longer exist. And from blocks and blocks of this.”

The HTA says that through the tireless efforts of airline, hotel, and ground transportation partners, more than 14,000 people were moved off the island of Maui on Wednesday, to either return home or continue with their vacation elsewhere in Hawaii. “By the end of [Thursday], it is estimated that an additional 14,500 people will be moved off Maui. Mahalo to all of our industry partners for this monumental show of support.”

An emergency assistance centre has been established by the Hawaii Tourism Authority at the Hawaii Convention Center, in partnership with the American Red Cross, to support visitors and residents being evacuated from Maui to Oahu due to the wildfires. Up to 2,000 evacuees can be provided temporary accommodations at the Hawaii Convention Center until they are able to board flights to return home or secure their own hotel lodging.

U.S. President Joe Biden has signed a Major Disaster Declaration for Hawaii, resulting in the approval to dedicate more federal resources to help with recovery efforts underway for Maui and Hawaii Island.

On Hawaii Island, Hawaii County officials have lifted all evacuation orders. Mauna Kea Resort is open and operating. “Mahalo to the firefighters and first responders for their tremendous efforts in stopping the fires from spreading and keeping everyone safe on Hawaii Island,” says the HTA.

The HTA adds that anyone wanting to make donations to help communities and families recover on Maui can do so through the Maui Strong Fund established by the Hawaii Community Foundation. The link can be accessed here.

Hawaii Reopening to Canadian Travellers: What You Need to Know

Hawaii has been open to Canadian travellers since December 2020; however, its stricter entry requirements and intra-island travel restrictions have still kept many travellers at bay.

Following the US fully opening its borders on November 8, Hawaii has aligned its entry requirements accordingly, and will no longer require additional testing for US travellers.

Meanwhile, for those of us in Canada, travelling to Hawaii has gotten a lot simpler as of the same date, allowing us to enter Hawaii with a cheap and simple rapid antigen test.

Hawaii Travel Restrictions

Entry to Hawaii is only slightly more complex than entering the US mainland, with an additional Health Form required as part of the process.

How Can Canadians Enter Hawaii?

Travellers are allowed to enter Hawaii through all international airports and by sea via a cruise. As of October 2021, when departing Canada by air, travellers are required to present proof of vaccination .

Travellers coming from Canada must fulfill all of the following conditions before entering Hawaii:

  • Mixed vaccines are permitted.
  • Either a PCR or an antigen test will suffice.
  • Complete the Hawaii Safe Travels Form  prior to departure.

The Safe Travels Form requires uploading a COVID-19 test result or a vaccination record in order to obtain a QR code, which you’ll need to present upon landing.

A negative COVID-19 test result is required regardless of whether you fly non-stop to Hawaii or take a connecting flight:

  • If you fly directly to Hawaii from Canada, a test result will be required prior to your flight.
  • Meanwhile, if you connect through the continental US on the way to Hawaii, you’ll still need a test result to enter the United States on the first leg of your journey.

Testing & Quarantine Upon Return

Travellers must complete a negative molecular test within 72 hours of boarding their flight back to Canada.

This is fairly easy to obtain on all the Hawaii islands, although it can certainly be expensive.

Outside of Oahu, where the capital of Honolulu lies, expect COVID-19 testing appointments to be booked up in advance and cost around US$150. In Oahu, the usual suspects of CVS and Walgreens are available for free NAAT tests .

As of October 2021, Switch Health’s RT-LAMP Test Kit can also be ordered prior to your trip and self-administered within 72 hours of your return flight to Canada.

We’d recommend purchasing a Switch Health RT-LAMP Test Kit for the smoothest travel experience on your return journey. At $149 + tax, this is the same price if not cheaper than most testing options in Hawaii.

Fully vaccinated Canadians can return to Canada by air without undergoing quarantine , upon completing a negative test at the airport on arrival into Canada. Canadians are considered fully vaccinated if they’ve received a full series of one of (or a mix of) Health Canada’s approved vaccines – Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, or Johnson & Johnson – at least 14 days before entering Canada.

Current Health Requirements in Hawaii

Technically, each of Hawaii’s islands is allowed to impose their own restrictions; however, current restrictions are generally in line with each other. Masks are required in all indoor settings and not required in outdoor settings.

There are no capacity or lockdown restrictions to speak of, from social distancing to masking indoors to restaurants.

Since June, testing was no longer required for travel between the islands, either, meaning that island-hopping is well and truly back.

How to Get to Hawaii

Travelling to Hawaii on points has largely been a point of frustration for Canadian travellers, especially on the East Coast.

For the winter travel season, Air Canada will be operating the following routes:

  • Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver to Honolulu
  • Vancouver, Calgary, and Toronto to Maui
  • Vancouver to Kona

With Aeroplan , these routes will cost 25,000 Aeroplan points one-way in business class from Vancouver, and 35,000 Aeroplan points one-way in business class from everywhere else.

However, these prices correspond to the lower end of Aeroplan’s dynamic pricing on Air Canada flights, and it’s relatively rare to find flights that actually fall at the lower end of the spectrum.

Therefore, a trip to Hawaii would be an optimal use of eUpgrades earned as part of Aeroplan Elite Status , under the “Latitude Attitude” strategy . You could book the much more reasonably priced Economy Latitude flight and then apply eUpgrades to upgrade into business class.

In addition, Hawaii would also represent a great opportunity to use your Priority Rewards if you have any, allowing you to receive a 50% discount on eligible Aeroplan points redemptions.

For those on the West Coast, using British Airways Avios to fly Alaska Airlines’s routes to Hawaii is also a sweet spot, costing just 13,000 Avios in economy class each way from Seattle to Honolulu.

For those who seek a higher-value award booking, consider using Turkish Miles & Smiles to fly to Hawaii from anywhere in North America for just 10,000 miles one-way in economy class.

Turkish miles are best earned from Citi ThankYou points in the US, transferring at a ratio 0f 1:1, or by converting Marriott Bonvoy points at an optimal ratio of 60,000 Bonvoy points = 25,000 Turkish miles.

Hawaii has aligned its entry requirements to those of the United States at large. For Canadian travellers, this means that the testing and vaccination requirements for flying to Hawaii are now exactly in line with those of flying to the continental US.

Proof of vaccination and a negative COVID-19 antigen test will suffice, along with a Health Form to complete.

However, PCR tests are relatively expensive to obtain outside of Honolulu, and travellers may want to plan a few days in Honolulu for a free test or bring along their Switch Health self-test kits for a smoother return journey.

With travel restrictions now as loose as they have been since the start of the pandemic, I’m sure many Canadians will be making Hawaii their destination of choice during the upcoming winter and Spring Break holidays.

As always, you can refer to our Travel During COVID-19 Resource for Canadians for the most up-to-date information on travelling in the pandemic era.

Thanks Ricky! My understanding is that effective Nov 8, 2021 for Canadians flying to Hawaii, only the following two Covid-related requirements remain in place: (1) Vaccine proof (2) Negative Covid-19 test test.

My understanding is that it is no longer necessary to complete the Hawaii Safe Travels Form prior to departure nor is it necessary to upload test results to it.

This stuff is so confusing is that I’m hoping you can confirm that I’m right (or not!).

Thanks and best regards, Peter

This is correct. Direct flights from Canada do not require the Safe Travels form. I just arrived in Hawaii without any issues. Domestic flights within the Hawaiian islands also do not need it.

Make sure you keep the boarding pass from your direct flight from Canada, you may be asked for it when you check into a hotel or car rental.

This was my understanding as well. Only required to do Safe Travels if your flight from Canada is not direct, and has a stop over in the United States.

YVR-OGG on TK only costs 7.5k for Y and 15k for J, but ut does not show up on the website and you need to call in to book.

I was able to get Covid coverage through the Canadian Snowbird Association under their MediPac Travel Insurance $5,000,000.

I am Canadian. If I get a covid test and ok travel to hawaii. When returning zo Canada, where do I get the covid test required by Csnadisn immigration inorder fly back to Canada? Is tgere a specific location in Honolulu? Thanks

Air Canada has cancelled three of my rescheduled flights to Honolulu, last I heard they are not flying to Honolulu till Dec 1st. From other articles that I have read the State of Hawaii only accepts a Nasal Swab tests which can only be done 72 hours from the last leg of your flight plans to Hawaii. i.e. I am flying from Edmonton to Honolulu via Vancouver, San Francisco so my test will only be accepted if it is done 72 hours from the time my flight leaves San Francisco.

We plan to look into the availability of COVID-19 testing for travellers across Canada in a future article.

Here in BC, we cannot get the testing done for travel. Your call is screened and you must show symptoms and signs. We don’t get to have that option. Even if you lie and get the text, your results are not guaranteed in a certain time frame. This Covid text plan is not going to work for anyone in BC..

I was wondering what the travel policy was for Non-Canadians living in Canada ( For example on an open work permit, no PR yet). Would I not be allowed to travel to and from Hawaii and Toronto under this program unless I can prove I am a citizen of Canada?

Please post any information on private labs that can offer the Covid test required for Hawaii entry once you have this information. We live in Vancouver.

I am hoping a possible compromise is to allow self-quarantine until the results are available. I have the Altitue-25k status so could bring a second suitcase full of food and snacks. haha

In my case there is hope but doesn’t look good. I made my booking for buisness class for three weeks in September on the first day of the promotion. The flights can be cancel free until Aug 31 so decided to take a shot even though I expected only a 10% chance I would be able to take the trip. With the latest news, I would say still only a 25% chance the trip will happen. If they insist on the PCR test rather than the rapid test then it is unlikely. In case the test needs to be done in the US I booked a round trip to Pittsburgh three days before my flight from Toronto which I can cancel if the test can be done in Canada or the land border opens (highly unlikely). It is also unclear if someone "out-of-state" would be able to get a test at CVS which is not possible now. The other problem, other than only having 72 hours to do the test and get the result, is the time difference. The flight from Vancouver arrives at 8pm which is 2am EST. So the earliest test would be 7am EST the following mornng. This brings the time down to 65 hours at best. To get the result 2 hrs before the Toronto flight (In order to cancel) would be 10am EST, so that brings the time down to 51 hours. So in my case I would need to find an approved service able to return the result in 48hrs. Given that currently it would be very difficult to even get the result in 72 hours I am hopeful but not optimistic. Will know more once the requirements are decided in the next couple of weeks.

This sounds promising considering I just booked tickets to Hawaii at the beginning of Sept. What still worries me at this point is 1) the FDA-approved PCR test from a CLIA certified laboratory is this not an American thing? and 2) whether or not we’ll have to quarantine once we return to Canada

hawaii canada travel advisory

The Hawaiian authorities should be providing more information on the testing requirement prior to August 1, and hopefully that includes clarification about international testing standards. I’ll be sure to update this post when we know more.

Other than faking it, can you even get a test if you don’t show symptoms?

Yes, I know several Montrealers who’ve been able to get tested while asymptomatic. The 72-hour turnaround time might be trickier to guarantee, and may require a visit to a private clinic to be on the safe side.

In Ontario, anyone who wants to get a test is able to. Just look up your local testing centre, go to their website, pre-register (among other things, it will ask which day you plan to attend), show up any time during that day, no appointment required. It does take up to 4 days to get the result.

This is amazing. To be honest, the rules keep changing and it makes anyone question how they can even be confident that their tests are adequate. I can now cancel my pcr booking with lifelabs and opt for a simple rapid antigen test at Costco instead. Thank you for making things clear.

I don’t know why people would want to risk traveling outside of Canada at this point. There was an article on hospital cost for a COVID-19 patient in US. It ended up being over $1 million (he was on a ventilator). To me, the hassle of travel, quarantine and financial risk is not worth it at this point.

It’s interesting to note the variance in people’s attitudes. Many readers express views similar to yours, but then again there are other readers who’ve told me they’ll be on the first flight to Greece on July 1 🙂

Amazing news…I’m packing already. With many countries opening up and opting for a "proof of a negative COVID-19" test, before access is granted, how about an article detailing specifics on who completes these tests, where to obtain them, costs, time required before you have the necessary paperwork is in-hand etc.. Would be a shame to get all dressed and have no place to go.

I can share my testing experience, I was tested voluntarily at my local hospital’s Covid-19 testing center this past week.

Unfortunately, I don’t know how I’d coordinate testing before my trip, there’s a chance that I may land in Hawaii before my test results come back if I did the test at my local hospital with their stated turnaround times. The hospital was quoting 3-5/4-5 days for results, which was the timeframe for my results.

Thanks for sharing Andrew!

Hawaii set to welcome Canadians without quarantine restrictions starting Sept. 1

'that's going to make a lot of canadians happy,' says u.s. immigration lawyer.

hawaii canada travel advisory

Social Sharing

A winter travel escape may not be top-of-mind during a world-wide pandemic, but the island state of Hawaii says Canadians will be welcomed without quarantine measures starting Sept. 1, 2020.

Hawaii imposed a mandatory 14-day quarantine for all out-of-state travellers at the onset of the pandemic, but the state's Department of Transportation says it will soon be open to "all trans-Pacific travelers."

"Travelers arriving in Hawaii from out-of-state will have the option to get a valid COVID-19 test prior to their arrival, and show proof of a negative test result, to avoid the 14-day quarantine," read a statement from the Department of Transportation.

The test must be taken within 72 hours of boarding a flight to Hawaii.

"That's going to make a lot of Canadians happy," said Len Saunders, an immigration lawyer in Blaine, Washington.

hawaii canada travel advisory

Without evidence of a negative test result, passengers will be subject to the quarantine, according to Hawaii's Department of Transportation.

Air travel not restricted

Land borders between the U.S. and Canada have been closed to non-essential travel since March 21, but air travel has not been restricted for Canadians going into the U.S.

"A lot of Canadians don't know they are allowed to travel by air to the United States," said Montreal-based travel expert Ricky Zhang.

"That loophole has remained," said Saunders. "I don't think you're going to see that change."

Airlines resume flights

Meanwhile, Canadian airlines have been preparing to reopen routes to Hawaii. Westjet is set to resume its non-stop flights from Vancouver to Hawaiian destinations on Sept. 5, and Air Canada will follow suit on Sept. 8.

According to the state's Department of Health, Hawaii, with a total population of 1.4 million people, has so far recorded  2111 confirmed cases of COVID-19 up to July 31, with 26 deaths.

It's the only state in the U.S. that implemented a mandatory quarantine at the beginning of the pandemic. Saunders says quarantines were voluntary in all other states.

The lifting of Hawaii's 14-day quarantine requirement was planned for August, but Gov. David Ige delayed due to a rise in confirmed cases on the mainland.

The process of finalizing the requirements of entry will be determined "in the coming weeks," according to the Department of Transportation.

"The September 1 date is still tentative and subject to evaluation," said Zhang.

"It is a risk that they are taking and that Canadians are taking should they choose to travel to Hawaii," he added.

Travel insurance returns

At least one Canadian insurer, however, has reinstated medical coverage for COVID-19.

"We understand that our clients have concerns about medical insurance coverage for COVID-19," states Medipac's Travel Insurance website , which sells travel medical insurance to the Canadian Snowbird Association and the Royal Canadian Legion.

The company website says that "Early Bird Travel Insurance is now available and includes coverage for COVID-19," while adding that pre-existing condition clauses and other policy terms and conditions will continue to apply.

Zhang said Canadians can also consider purchasing travel insurance from U.S. providers.

Pre-testing in Canada

"This whole pre-testing thing is something the Canadian government may want to consider," said Saunders. "Because if it works well in Hawaii — with its huge tourist base — why can't it work for Canada?"

The BC Centre for Disease Control suggests people with cold, influenza or even mild COVID-19-like symptoms should be tested, but its website also says "anyone can get tested."

Canadians returning from Hawaii will still be subject to mandatory self-isolation upon their return.

Everything Vancouver travellers need to know if they have flights booked to Hawaii

Travellers may have some room to change flights if they purchased tickets to Maui following wildfires that have devastated the Hawaiian island.

The tragedy is now the deadliest wildfire in U.S. history, claiming nearly 100 lives with the possibility of scores of more bodies to be discovered in the burn area.

Most flights between Vancouver International Airport (YVR) and Kahului Airport (OGG) on Maui had resumed by Monday, Aug. 14, allowing people who were trapped on the island a chance to leave.

Going the other direction, the Canadian government warns against travel to the island as its residents grapple with the aftermath of the blaze. Nearly every building was destroyed in centuries-old Lahaina, and the State of Hawaii declared a state of emergency on Aug. 9.

While the fires have retreated, authorities warn that toxic byproducts may remain, including in drinking water, after the flames spewed poisonous fumes. That has left many unable to return home.

What to do if you have booked Maui flights leaving soon

YVR's departures page shows two flights scheduled to leave from the airport en route to Maui on Tuesday, Aug. 15 evening. One is with WestJet, the other with Air Canada.

Air Canada says its customers can make alternative travel arrangements for free due to the Maui fires if they booked flights departing in August.

  • Eligible travellers must have purchased their ticket no later than Aug. 9 for travel until Aug. 31.
  • The original itinerary must include a flight to, from, or via Maui.

Flights during the affected period may be changed to another date up to Oct. 1, subject to availability in the booking class that was originally purchased. Otherwise, any fare difference will apply.

  • Retrieve your booking to see alternative dates.

Travellers may also change their itineraries to travel anytime to or from Honolulu (HNL) and additional charges and any fare difference will be waived, subject to availability in the class they originally purchased.  If you choose to cancel your flight, you will receive a full refund. If you purchased your ticket with  Air Canada Vacations , reach out to them directly.

For more information about the Air Canada Maui Advisory  visit its travel updates page.

WestJet will allow one-time changes and cancellations for free on eligible air-only bookings.

  • Travellers must have purchased their ticket no later than Aug. 9 for travel until Aug. 31.
  • Eligible destinations include Maui and Hawaii (the big island).
  • Flights must be wholly marketed and operated by WestJet, including Encore.

Travellers must request changes or cancellations more than two hours prior to departure. If these are made within two hours of travel, the standard fees apply.

  • If you change your travel dates to on or before Oct. 31 and go to the same destination or a geographically close destination, the difference in fare is waived and no change fee will be charged.
  • If you change your travel dates to travel after Oct. 31 to the same destination or a geographically close destination, no change fee will be charged but the difference in fare will apply.
  • You may book a new destination for free, but the difference in fare will apply and you must complete the exchange by Oct. 31.
  • Depending on the booking channel, non-refundable fares (excluding Basic fares) will remain as an open ticket for 13 months from the first coupon date or be returned to Corporate Travel Bank.
  • Basic fares are eligible for cancellation for no fee until Oct. 31.
  • Refundable fares may be returned to the original form of payment or remain as an open ticket for 13 months from the first coupon date.
  • Any portion paid with WestJet dollars will be returned to the traveller's account. Any portion paid with Travel Bank credit will be returned to the traveller's account and the original expiration date (if applicable) will apply.

For more information about the  WestJet travel Advisory, visit its Maui updates page .

What to consider about the Maui travel advisory if you must travel

Canada has issued an "avoid all non-essential travel" advisory for journeys to Maui.

Essential services could be disrupted during your visit, including transportation, power distribution, water and food supply, telecommunications networks, emergency services, and medical care.

If you are in the areas affected by the wildfires:

  • exercise caution
  • monitor local news and weather reports
  • follow the instructions of local authorities, including evacuation orders

While there is no advisory for other parts of Hawaii, locals have urged against travel due to an influx of tourism over the past years. Also, the other islands may see a surge in visitors right now as people evacuate Maui.

Holland America Line Opens Bookings for 2025-2026 Panama Canal and Hawaii Cruises

Cruises include new ports, myriad ways to transit the Panama Canal, plus Nieuw Amsterdam’s Hawaii debut

Seattle, Wash., March 4, 2024 — Holland America Line has opened bookings for 2025-2026 Panama Canal and Hawaii cruises. The premium cruise line, known for longer and destination-focused voyages, will offer departures from five North American homeports , sailing on five ships.

This season of six different Panama Canal cruises includes several firsts: Holland America Line has added the port of Acajutla, El Salvador, on most Panama Canal sailings. Additionally, guests can sail aboard Pinnacle-Class ship Koningsdam as she makes the transit through the canal for the first time. And for those hoping to transit the canal aboard Zuiderdam, new this season are departures from Miami . Voyages span from 15 to 22 days , providing options for those seeking shorter or longer vacations.

“We know a Panama Canal transit is a once-in-a-lifetime experience many of our guests are seeking, and by adding Acajutla to select voyages, we’re making it even more memorable. Guests can discover the ‘Pompeii of the Americas’ with a shore excursion to Joya de Cerén archaeological site, where they’ll explore a Mayan farming village remarkably preserved under volcanic ash,” said  Beth Bodensteiner, Holland America Line’s chief commercial officer. “With four different departure cities, there are so many different ways to experience the Panama Canal aboard one of our ships.

In Hawaii, Nieuw Amsterdam makes its debut, cruising roundtrip itineraries from San Diego, California. The ship will be joined by Koningsdam and Zaandam on island-hopping adventures that nearly all include an overnight at Honolulu, Hawaii’s iconic capital. Panama Canal and Hawaii cruises are offered from October 2025 through April 2026 and range from 15 to 22 days.

Natural and man-made marvels feature prominently on cruises to Hawaii and the Panama Canal, with cascading waterfalls, ancient Mayan ruins and, of course, the Panama Canal’s famous locks. Shore excursions are culturally immersive to show off the natural beauty and rich history of the destinations. Cuisine on board highlights local flavors with golden pineapple, locally sourced fresh fish like Pacific mahi-mahi, fresh homemade salsa and other regional  specialties sourced directly from port to plate.

Highlights of the 2025-2026 Panama Canal Cruise Season:

· Panama Canal cruises are aboard Eurodam, Koningsdam and Zuiderdam.

·Cruises start or end in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; Seattle, Washington; San Diego, California; or Miami or Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

·Guests enjoy a daylight transit of the Panama Canal, with commentary on the open decks detailing the amazing feat of the man-made marvel.

·Itineraries range from 15 to 22 days and include a combination of calls in Aruba, California, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama and Turks and Caicos.

·Several cruises offer multiple embarkation or disembarkation options. For example, Fort Lauderdale to San Diego, Seattle or Vancouver.

·Select Panama Canal sailings include a call at Acajutla, a new port for Holland America Line, offering excursions to remarkably preserved Mayan ruins, volcanoes, and cacao plantations, while also providing a gateway to see more of El Salvador, including San Salvador and Nahuizalco.

·Many Panama Canal cruises include a call at Half Moon Cay, Holland America Line’s award-winning private island in the Bahamas.

Highlights of the 2025-2026 Hawaii Cruise Season:

· Cruises to Hawaii are aboard Koningsdam, Nieuw Amsterdam and Zaandam. This will be Nieuw Amsterdam’s first season in Hawaii.

·Guests sailing aboard Nieuw Amsterdam will be able to experience the culinary delights of the ship’s newest restaurant, Morimoto by Sea. Guests sailing on Koningsdam or Zaandam will also be able to experience the restaurant menu during special pop-up dinners.

· Itineraries are roundtrip from San Diego, roundtrip from Vancouver, or from Vancouver to San Diego.

·  17-day “Circle Hawaii” from Vancouver to San Diego visits Nawiliwili, Kahului, Hilo, Honolulu (overnight) and Kona. The 17-day roundtrip from San Diego features either an overnight or late departure from Honolulu, a call to Ensenada, Mexico, and more Hawaiian ports like Kona and Kahului.

·  18-day “Circle Hawaii” is roundtrip from San Diego or Vancouver and calls at Kahului, Hilo, Honolulu (overnight), Nawiliwili and Kona. Roundtrip San Diego adds a call at Ensenada and roundtrip Vancouver includes Victoria, Canada.
