Located just off exit 8 on the N7 and a 15-minute drive from Dublin, Santa’s House Express is the best place to visit Santa this Christmas 2023! The experience begins when you are greeted by twinkling lights at the North gates of Palmerstown House Estate. Check-in with our friendly team and get ready to hop on board!

Santa's House Express is back to its traditional best, all the family will embark on a magical train journey. Santa and his elves are back for 2023! 

It has been a busy year here in the North Pole. After the success of 2022 Santa and his elves have been working hard to ensure every family has a wonderful private visit with Santa Claus! 

Upon check in each family will meet their elf guide who will take them directly to Santa’s Magical Cabin. 

As always Santa Claus will have know some special information about your children, give them a lovely age appropriate gift and take some gorgeous professional photos to capture the magic of meeting Santa! For more details click here!

Enjoy a Private, Covid safe Santa Visit.

Santa and his elves have been working very hard to make sure you can visit us this year in the safest way possible! 

At Santa’s magical cabin, instead of the group experience your family will follow one of Santa’s elf guides direct to Santa’s cabin for a special private (and covid safe) visit with Santa.

As always, Santa will have special information about each of your children, give them an age-appropriate gift, and take a memorable photo that will last a lifetime!

"Finding Nutmeg" Activity Book

Following the success of “Finding Nutmeg” children can now go on their own creative adventure meeting (and coloring in) elves and solving puzzles along the way.

Word searches, mazes, elf doors, spot the difference and many more are waiting! Children will love spending time this Christmas with this entertaining and engrossing activity book.

Virtual Santa

Bring the magic home this Christmas when you purchase a personalised live chat with Santa via Zoom !

The Virtual Santa Experience is where you and your family get to visit Santa via Zoom in his magical home without ever leaving yours! Santa will know all about your children and ensure everyone has an enjoyable and entertaining visit. 

Each visit will last approximately 10 minutes and comprise of meeting one of Santa’s elves before entering Santa’s magical house.

The run-up to Christmas is a highlight for many families every year, with twinkly lights everywhere, festive parties and nativity plays, and of course, a trip to visit Santa!

The elves at everymum have been researching the best options for visiting Santa in Ireland in 2023. Read on to find the best options for your family.

A trip to see Santa used to mean one of two options: The local shopping centre, or the local department store. Either way, there was usually an elf, there might be a present, and there was always a man in a red suit. It was quick and easy. A no-frills experience, but often the highlight of the Christmas.

Today, it’s not just about going to your shopping centre, oh no. There are now “destinations” and “experiences” where you can visit Santa in his winter wonderland or have a video call live from Lapland in the comfort of your own home!

No longer just a queue and a three-minute chat with the main man; there are train rides, magical trails, forest walks, feeding animals, sleighs, live shows, Mrs Claus, and gallons of hot chocolate (or if you’re lucky, mulled wine). Although of course, it all costs a bit more than Santy in Switzers ever did.

Searching online it might be difficult to make sense of the numerous destinations around the country. But don't worry, we've done the phoning and the googling, and put this list together for you.

It’s just a sample of the many Santa experience options available – based on good online and real-life reviews. 

1. Santa’s Magical Trail, Clanard Court Hotel, Co. Kildare

Breaking Great News from Santa’s Magical Trail HQ in The North Pole and the Clanard Court Hotel in Co. Kildare! Together with Santa, Mrs Claus and Head Elf Holly Berry, we are running a Sleep Over event and a NEW Santa Visit experience this December, hurrah!

2. Elf Town, Galway

Elf Town always offers a special experience. Based at Galway Racecourse, visit Mrs Claus in her kitchen and decorate your own Christmas tree cookie with her and the Elves, while enjoying a glass of mulled wine or fruit punch. Then as a small group, you will meet Santa in his grotto, where Santa will give each child a special Elf Town coin, beautifully presented in a gift box to bring home with them.

3. The Santa Express, Wicklow Christmas Market, Wicklow Town

The Santa Express at Wicklow Christmas Market will transport you on a magical train journey to Santa’s Wonderland, in exclusive family carriages. Let the elves guide your through their creative workshops, then relax as Mrs Claus reads some of her favourite Christmas tales.​

Of course, Santa will also be waiting to meet all the boys and girls, and each child will get a special gift. Don't forget to enter the festive colouring competition too!

You can also explore the magical Abbey grounds to find delights including a magical funfair, and artisan food and craft stalls. Plus don’t forget to say hello to the Alpacas, and post ​your letter in Santa’s Official Postbox.

4. The Santa Experience

The Santa Experience is renowned for being full of magic and fun every year, and this year in-person visits are back. Visit Santa in his Magical Cabin where you'll receive a gift and a memorable photo of your visit with the big man.

Want something more traditional this year? You could get a personalised signed letter from Santa with an official 'Nice List' certificate. Or order a special personalised gift box – it includes the letter and certificate, plus a copy of the beautifully illustrated children's book Finding Nutmeg , which details the story of one boy’s magical adventure to the North Pole, a Finding Nutmeg activity book, and a pack of reindeer food!

5. santa’s enchanted forest, at luggwoods.

Luggwoods is renowned for creating a magical Christmas experience every year, and this year is no exception.

Explore the new Woodland Walk of Wonder with some of Luggwoods’ amazing fairytale characters, before meeting Santa in a breathtakingly beautiful Enchanted Forest setting.

6. Donegal’s Lapland, Donegal

Donegal’s Lapland is a magical experience, starting with a live Christmas show with music, elves, and plenty of surprises thrown in. Look out for Santa as he arrives down the chimney with treats for everyone, but beware the naughty elf! After the show, visit Santa’s village for a trip to the toy factory where your child can choose their own gift, visit the live nativity and much more!

7. Santa House Express, Palmerstown House Estate

Santa’s House Express is back at the Palmerstown House Estate this Christmas for its seventh year!

Hop onboard Santa’s House Express Train for a journey through the beautiful grounds of Palmerstown House Estate, until you reach the Manor. Mrs Claus and friends will welcome you to the great hall with a wonderful show for all their special guests.

She will then invite families to join Santa and some very special characters for an audience to remember! Each family bubble will have their own space to enjoy the show and atmosphere of the audience with Santa and his hilarious helpers.

A warm festive welcome awaits you after your train journey back to the North Pole Village, which has a festival funfair that can be enjoyed by all ages, with unlimited rides for all visitors. There will also be magnificent additions to the festival lighting show.

8. The Christmas Experience, Tayto Park, Meath

At The Christmas Experience  each family will meet Santa individually  and have a chat during your visit, after a magical adventure through Elf-land guided by Santa’s head elf, Jingles.

You can also meet Mrs Claus as she bakes in preparation for the Christmas holidays, help get the elves out of bed and do their daily exercises, and prepare some magic reindeer food which you can take home to help them on their way on Christmas Eve.

The Christmas Experience includes entry to Tayto Park and attractions such as the Zoo and Junior Zone.

9. Christmas Island, Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow

The award-winning Christmas Island – the Santa Experience returns for its 9th year at Hidden Valley Resort, Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow. Expect festive fun, and an unforgettable and unique Christmas Experience – You can even stay overnight!

Your experience will include an exciting train journey to the fairy forest. Meet the elves, and bring out your creative side by making a decoration to take home; before enjoying stories and games from one of Santa’s head elves.

When you’re ready to meet the big man himself, Santa will give each child a special token so your little one can choose their own present at the Elves Gift Exchange. Consumer Column: Your guide to the best Santa visits around the country

From sleighs, trains and Rudolph and his wet nose rescue dogs, Santa Claus is coming to a town near you.

Evoke’s Consumer Column has made a list and yes, we’ve checked it twice and we’ve found out which Santa visits are nice for the price.  

Arnott's Santa Experience

A photo with the Arnott’s Santa is a timeless tradition for generations of Irish households. Santa at Arnott’s has once again gone virtual with Father Christmas located in his cosy living room on Second Level. While the man himself may not be there, with a sprinkle of magic and he appears for that festive family snap. Kiddies can also pop their letter in the store’s mailbox where there will also be a free Santa badge. On arrival to the grotto you will be asked to enter a virtual queue – when it’s your turn you will receive a text message telling to head to the Grotto. 

This year Arnott’s Santa is supporting St Vincent de Paul with 100 per cent of all donations going to the charity. Families visiting are asked to give what they can for a great cause. 

The Santa snap costs €15 (two copies) and all proceeds go to charity.

Christmas At The Square, Tallaght

The Square in Tallaght have a cartoon Christmas theme for a jolly old time with the centre transformed into a magical winter wonderland.  

Great fun for all the family with Santa’s Grotto, 35m Panoramic Ferris Wheel , Kids Funfair and a brand-new Adventure Trail. 

Prices are: Wheel Regular (€4.50), Wheel Junior (€3.50), Candy Cane Trampolines (€4), Spin Zone (€4), Merry-go-Round (€3).

Santa Claus is coming to IKEA

IKEA in Ballymun will host eight free festive workshops every weekend during the month of December for the whole family to enjoy  

The workshops are free and every child will receive a small gift to take home. Donations are welcome and all money raised will be given to IKEA’s charity partner Barnardos Ireland. 

IKEA will be hosting a mini pop-up Christmas pantomime in store on the 4 and 5 December. On 11 December 11, Barnardos children’s choir will  be lifting IKEA’S roof with Christmas carols in store with all proceeds to benefit the charity.

The free workshops last 45 minutes and are free and every child will receive a small gift to take home. Donations are welcome and all money raised will be given to Barnardos Ireland. They can host one family per table with up to three children and two adults.

Santa's coming Ho Ho Home to Croke Park

Children are invited to join Santa and his elite team of Elves at their training camp at Croke Park for a sporting Santa Experience. 

Santa’s sleigh is making a flying visit to the GAA Museum and Croke Park from 27 November and an elite team of elves from the North Pole have set up camp at the  stadium.

The Croke Park Experience promises a winning day out with a difference with a fascinating behind the ‘winter wonderland’ scenes access all-areas, whether that's pitch-side or elving around in the players dressing rooms. There’s also a ‘chill’ out in the Igloo Clubhouse, where all can test their hurling and football skills in the North Pole Skills Zone. 

Then it’s on to meet the champ himself with Captain Kris Kringle awaiting his fans in his very own Croke Park Cabin. Here, every child will receive a small GAA-themed gift and photos will also be available to purchase if you wish.  

The Santa Experience also includes free admission to the newly refurbished GAA Museum. All tickets must be pre-booked online in advance. Prices start at €11 for an adult, children aged two upwards: €17 (including gift), children aged 13 months – 23 months: €9 (including gift), children under one: free of charge and gift included, but ticket must be booked.

Santa's House Express Drive-Thru Christmas

Back at Palmerstown House Estate in Kildare, Santa and his merry elves will transport families through Elf Town, Santa's Toy Factory and Candy Cane Lane before they discover the wonder of Sing Street and enjoy unlimited funfair rides at the manor. 

The festive route takes you through the mesmerising grounds of Palmerstown House Estate and the Reindeer Stables. The final stop is at Santa's Drive-Thru Grotto where  Santa and his friend will be greeting (from a safe distance) and taking the Christmas wish-lists.

The Elves will have age appropriate gifts for all little visitors which will be delivered safely to your car. 

This years Santa’s House Express sees the return of the funfair with all rides included and unlimited in your ticket. Priced from €22 for children, €5 for infants and €14 for adults, which is no increase on last year, but still one of the more expensive experiences.

Santa Paws is coming to the DSPCA

The Dublin animal charity in Rathfarnham is opening its doors for what is always a barking mad great day out, for all , even the four-legged boys and girls can come along for some toys and treats.  The DSPCA are encouraging people to bring pets.

In keeping with Covid safety guidelines the DSPCA have adapted accordingly with their seasonal spectacular festive family pods where eight people can enjoy the fun in private, that includes storytime in Santa's Grotto , a visit with Santa, a gift, hot chocolate with marshmallows, tea & coffee, and of course the chance to get a family photo with Santa including your dog (€5).

Rudolph “the Rescue” Reindeer will be on hand with a special message to share that Rescue Pets Make the Best Pets.   

Prices includes all children and adults (babies are also counted as one of the 8). Tickets cost €60 per session so why not bring along the grandparents or cousins. 

Santa Train Rathwood Hotel, Co Carlow

This Christmas event includes a train ride through the enchanted forest and then a trip through Fosset’s Big Top where Santa’s elves are hard at work in preparation for the big day.  

Prices start from €12.95 for a Santa visit and a free gift with no change on last year's prices.

The Christmas Experience at Tayto Park

It’s Crisp Kringle at Tayto Park with munchies on the menu at Candyland. Where the big guy himself, Mr Tayto , might magically appear at the Park’s wrap-o-matic present machine.

There’s also a visit the reindeer stables before it’s off to visit Santa, Mrs Claus and the elves where after families are free to explore the grounds of the Tayto Park Zoo where there are hundreds of animals to see. T ickets start from €8.  

VIP Santa Experience at Winterval Waterford Festival

Winterval Waterford Festival is hosting a fabulous event which includes a Christmas market full of fresh treats and mulled delights as well as live music, dancing, amusement rides and comedy shows. 

It'll be running from Friday November 19th until Thursday December 23rd over the first 4 weekends and then a final festive weeklong run from December 17 to 23, to really get you in the Christmas spirit.

Prices for the Santa grotto start from €15, and includes a family photo with Santa in a snow globe. To book Santa check out the availability online .

Winter Wonderland at Westport House, Co Mayo

Explore the magical world of Tinsel Town where you can visit the Wish Tree to make a wish, get your face painted, create Christmas decorations and ride the Winter Wonderland Express.

This is topped off by a complimentary festive drink  before it’s off to see Santa and Mrs Claus in their lovely grotto. Tickets start from €15. 

Santa's Enchanted Castle, Co Wexford

Mr & Mrs Claus can be found at magical castle on the hill in Wexford.  The tour lasts 45 minutes and promises surprises aplenty for all the family.  

There is also a sensory friendly tour for children who may be sensitive to audio or visual. Tickets are for kids €20 and €10 for adults.

Luggwoods Enchanted Forest Christmas Experience, Dublin

Luggwoods is nestled the foothills of the Dublin mountains and the Grinch, the Fairy Queen and Santa’s elves are some of magical folk in the woods with Santa to be found in his lovely log cabin where the woods are lit up like a fairytale.

Tickets are €21.95 for kids and €15.95 for adults. No change on last year.

Santa's Christmas Wonderland Ashford, Co Meath

The Santa live program created by Santa’s Christmas Wonderland allows you to have a Zoom call, phone call, letter or video message for your kids and photographs can also be sent in to get personalised bauble keepsake for your tree and a ‘Good List’ certificate. 

The price is rather naught as a Santa Call for five minutes is €8. You could probably phone a friend for way less.  

Christmas at Bunratty Castle, Co Clare

The Santa Experience in the village of Bunratty in Clare consists of a trail of lights walk at Bunratty Folk Park for all the family which will then be followed by an announcement from Santa Claus at Bunratty Castle.  

Tickets are rather naughty at €15 for adults and kids while babies under two years go free. 

Elf Town, Co Galway

Elf Town is set over three buildings and four floors and the whole experience takes two hours. A trip to Elf Town includes a visit to Santa, the Elves, Mrs Claus and his trusted reindeer.  

Every child will get a special coin keepsake from Santa who will tell them something about themselves and every child receives a gift. But it's very pricey. Adults are €9.95, children (13 months +) are €34.95, and infants (Under 13 months) are €9.95 and booking fees apply.

Santa's Magical Trail at Clanad Court Athy, Co Meath

Clanard Court Christmas offers a family festive meal with a visit to Santa afterwards in his log cabin and includes a gift. This year the hotel has added to their experience with Santa’s Craftsy Workshop and Make-A-Teddy. 

Prices include a two-course meal for children and adults, access to Santa’s Craftsy Workshop and Make-A-Teddy, Santa visit and Santa gift. Prices are adults €30, child €36, infant €16 (if food is required, this will be charged at your table)  with a booking fee of €3.

Taylor's Three Rock Santa Experience in Kilmashogue

Sees a singing Santa, Mrs Claus snd the Elves  as they rock and troll at Christmas in the Grotto.  

Following the performance you will be taken to Santa’s grotto for a photo and a gift that has been made in Santa’s toy shop. It includes family pods. Prices start from €6.00 - €25.

The Santa Express at Wicklow Christmas Market

Entry into the Wicklow Christmas Market is free and once in you can browse local, artisan craft and food stalls, and soak up the Christmas atmosphere. A new Eco Ice Skating Rink is a new addition and the  popular Santa Express experience returns. 

Prices for adults and teens is € 13.95, child 1 to 12 years €21.95, Infant €13.95. Photos range from €12 to €18.

Castlecomer Discoery Park, Kilkenny

With Santa on sabbatical this year the elves have taken over. Castlecomer Park is lit up to spark the imagination for big and small.  

The Elf Village is Christmas central this year with fairy houses, open spaces, Christmas lights and it is a wonderful destination for a winter walk complete with  hot chocolate.

There’s bouncing nets and junior woodland adventure course for kids aged three to eight to burn off all that Christmas energy. The parks people have also created an Elf on the Shelf scavenger hunt for little ones to enjoy. Best of all it's free.

Are there more than three ‘Santa Experiences’ in Kildare ? Of course there are! Have we ‘experienced’ them all? No, well not yet anyway. However we have discovered and experienced three very unique ones and this article hopes to inspire you to get out and about this Christmas . Lots of happy memory making follows:

Three Unique Santa Experiences in Kildare

1. santa’s magical trail at the clanard court hotel in athy.

Santa’s Magical Trail at the luxury 4 Star family run Clanard Hotel in Athy, was indeed a magical experience. We started our evening colouring and sipping on hot chocolates and coffee while waiting for our name to be called to join the Santa’s elves on an interactive journey to meet him.

Smith enjoyed every minute, from petting the not so real reindeer’s to seeing the real deals in Santa’s Barn. We visited the elves bedroom, made cakes in the elves kitchen, and even prepared our own magic sparkling reindeer food. After that we posted a letter to Santa, and were happily greeted by the friendliest elves we could have ever expected to meet.

We met the lovely Mrs Claus who was very happy to have us visit. But of course the pièce de résistance was meeting the one and only Mr. Santa Claus himself.

After our experience we rounded the evening off with dinner in the Bailey’s Bar Bistro within the Clanard Hotel.

The website advises a duration of 75 minutes, but I’d definitely give you and your little ones two hours to enjoy the festive cheer. And add some more if you plan on dining afterwards. Depending on how busy the evening is, expect a little waiting time to visit Santa at the end of the trail. However the bonus is that there is no queuing, as your name will be called. Along with that there’s a play area for both toddlers and older children to burn off that extra excitement.

2. Santa’s Boat Tours with Athy Boat Tours

Santa’s Boat Tours with Athy Boat Tours was a lovely experience, and a unique one. Mixing a Santa experience with gorgeous scenery and nature lessons ticked all the boxes for us.

Boarding the boat at the jetty in Athy that’s adjacent to the Courthouse, we were greeted by Santa’s ‘skipper’ elves. Once on board they helped prepared us for our experience ahead by arranging our life jackets and helping us fit them on. Once fitted we were given safety advice and shown where on the ‘Freedom on the Water’ passenger boat we could watch the world go by.

But before all that there was a very important person onboard who we just had to meet, and he wasn’t hard to spot.

Mr Claus greeted us with a warm smile, festive chat and had lots of gifts waiting for all the little believers.

With present in tow, it was time to either sit back and relax or stand outside and take in the scenery of the River Barrow. Our favourite parts were the nature lessons from Santa’s ‘skipper’ elves.

And luckily for us the weather held up and so there was plenty of fresh air, and nature opportunities. But I have to say it was comforting to step inside every now and then, especially when the teas, coffees, hot chocolates and treats were being served.

3. Santa at Kildare Farm Foods and Open Farm in Rathmuck, Kildare

Santa at Kildare Farm Shop and Open Farm was actually the first Santa we went to see as a little family, Smith was nine months old at the time and the setting was just perfect for us all.

We wrapped up warm and took a leisurely stroll around and through the Open Farm before we made our way to Santa’s House.

There was a queue to visit Santa, and although quite long it did move quickly. As we shuffled along, we were greeted by happy elves and festive decoration before we entered Mr. Claus’ Home, which really did fit the scene. He sat happy to see us on a huge wooden throne surrounded by gifts and a strategically placed bench, that provided seating for all the family for that perfect festive family photo.

Santa at Kildare Farm Foods and Open Farm is free, and each child gets a gift for free. There’s a photograph service, which you pay for and which we availed of as a keepsake. After visiting Santa and the animals there’s also a Christmas Market on site, and the busy  Tractor Café to dine in.

As all you parents know, Santa always takes time out of his busy schedule before Christmas to visit Ireland. The award winning Santa Experience takes place at Dunnes Stores in the Kilnamanagh Shopping Centre, Tallaght on selected dates from November to December. Children will be transported to the North Pole where they can visit:

Visit The Elves in Training Santa Experience at Croke Park

Have you ever wondered what it takes to become one of Santa’s trusty elves? Why not find out at The Elves in Training   Santa Experience at Croke Park from end November onwards.

Each child gets to take part in Elf Training with Santa and his helpers in the specially designed elf camp at the GAA HQ. Every ‘elf’ will become a member of the North Pole Football, Hurling & Camogie Club, managed by Santa!

Each member of his elite Elf Squad visits the mesmerising snow tunnel, the North Pole team changing rooms. While you’re there make sure you listen for banter in the shower room to see who’s made it to the naughty or nice list! You might also need to hold your nose as you leave the dressing room, as the trainee Elves’ don’t usually listen to Mrs Claus when she tells them to pick up their dirty gear!

One of the highlights of the magical trail is a visit to Santa’s Bainisteoir’s office, the heart of all the action, where Santa reviews tactics and selects his dream team for the big journey on Christmas Eve.

After this meet and greet with Santa, where every child will receive a gift and get their professional photo taken, your family can run out pitch-side, like their GAA heroes, and take their own Croke Park ‘Elfies’, making even more magical memories.

You will then get complimentary admission to the GAA Museum, where you can discover two floors of interactive exhibits. Marvel at the original Sam Maguire and Liam MacCarthy cups and test your hurling and football skills in the museum’s Interactive Games Zone!

Visit Santa on the Bus That Stole Christmas

Find out if you have been naughty or nice on a storytelling adventure through good deeds and bad on Ireland’s only custom built Christmas bus, suitable for all ages. See if you can persuade the elves that your name should be on Santa’s good list this year!

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…but wait! The letters are missing and Santa is sick, you have to save Christmas for jolly old St. Nick! Join the two elves on this puzzling adventure to save the Magic of Christmas. Help them to solve the clues, find the letters and prove you believe in all the good that Christmas can bring. But be wary! Some that seem nice might actually be naughty! If Santa is saved and Christmas Magic restored, there’s a spot on the good list for everyone on board!

Christmas Bus Tours run during September. Tours take 45 mins start to finish and depart from 61 Upper O’Connell St (outside Flanagans Restaurant) and returns to the same spot.

There will be plenty of fun for families to enjoy a day out at Powerscourt Estate , Wicklow in the run up to Christmas.

Santa’s Train Adventure at Rathwood runs on selected dates during November and December.

This year, board the train and keep an eye out for Santa’s reindeer as you travel through the festive forest. You will then make your way to Fossett’s Big Top to see Santa, Mrs Claus and their elves as they perform a special show!

Santa Express at Castlecomer Discovery Park, Kilkenny

Embark on an enchanted journey to see Santa this Christmas at the Magical Woodland Christmas Experience at Castlecomer Discovery Park. Start your adventure when you journey to the North Pole on a magical train ride through a forest winter wonderland of twinkling lights.

Visit Santa in his workshop at Aillwee Cave on selected dates from November to December. Along with Mrs Claus and his team of happy Elves, Santa ensures a very special personalised visit for each child.

Santa Elves are waiting with their LISTS of the boys and girls visiting every day. They will guide everyone along the cave passageways singing Christmas Carols all the way. Santa Claus with his helper will meet and chat with each child and of course have a present for everyone. Mrs Claus is there to greet the grownups with a glass of Hot Punch and a Mince Pie.

Santa and his merry band of elves are looking forward to returning to Galway and meeting all the wonderful boy and girls at Elf Town .

Elf Town is back for 2021 with a bigger and better experience. The entire journey will take over 2 hours and promises to be full of fun. It is set over 3 buildings, and the Elf Town journey is over 4 floors with each area expertly designed and decorated by the expert team of elves.

This year, Santa’s House Express will be a drive-thru experience with unlimited outdoor funfair (inclusive in your ticket price) at the 1,100 acre Palmerstown House Estate.

This magical drive-thru experience will allow you to visit the elves in Elf Town, followed by a visit to the awe-inspiring Twinkle Avenue and The Enchanted Forest, before the main event – meeting Santa in his Grotto. The big man himself will have a gift for each child and time to chat with the family. Then, park the car and enjoy the fun and thrills at the funfair in the North Pole village.

The event will run from November 26th to December 23rd 2021.

Yep, she’s back banging on about Christmas in September. I know, I know, but now is the time to book the super popular Santa experiences before they sell out.

We have put together the best value and free places to visit Santa in Ireland this Christmas so everyone can have a very merry Christmas.

Santa’s Christmas Wonderland at Dundrum Town Centre

Dates: November 27th to December 24th 2023

Head to the Winter Wonderland, set in a beautifully crafted timber village with thousands of sparkling lights. On arrival, check-in at the ticket office where every child will receive a personal passport that Santa will stamp for you.

With your ticket, step through the Secret Wardrobe into the Magic Garden, and on to the Candy Cane Trail for some riddles and games with the elves. Now it’s only a few short steps through the gingerbread garden and it’s into the Elves’ Workshop where you’ll see some of the amazing wooden toys that the Elves have made. Then head to visit Mrs Claus who has a wonderful collection of story books and is always busy making mince pies for Santa and dinner for the Elves. She will give every child a special note for the Fairies and maybe some secret ‘Reindeer Food’ for Christmas Eve.

Olive’s Room elves will be on hand to help the children decorate gingerbread biscuits, create a festive decoration and draw a picture or post their letter to Santa. Each child will receive their craft, a gingerbread, hot chocolate. There will be face-painting with the fabulous Rosie from Roar.

Visit Santa at Wicklow Lifeboat Station

Dates: December 10th from 10am to 6pm

Prices: €10 per child, adults go free proceeds go to the RNLI

Visit Santa in his unique and magical grotto at Wicklow Lifeboat Station where elves will be on hand to face paint and provide a treat of cookies and milk for all the children. Santa also has a little treat for all the boys and girls and Rookie the Reindeer and Santa will be happy to have photos taken with everyone.

Winter Wonderland at Barretstown, Kildare

Dates: November 25th and 26th 2023

Prices: A visit to the Christmas Market is free. Santa visits are €50 for a family ticket (2 adults and 2 children), €18 per child, €10 per adult

Get ready for the fantastic Christmas-filled experience that is Winter Wonderland at Barretstown. Browse through the Christmas market stalls, soak up the Christmas music, enjoy some delicious food in Elizabeth’s Tree House, and take part in the Christmas raffle. And of course, you’ll be able to top it all off with a visit to the man himself in the wonderful grotto…Santa!

There will also be magic tricks, face painting, Christmas stories and the chance to meet the Christmas elves.

This year at SOLAS, ring in the festive season with a host of events and the Santa Experience. Included in your ticket is the chance to walk through the wonky winter wonderland, full of surprises and meet Santa’s helpers and Sean the Sheep! Then ring the bell to see if Santa will appear to give you a special gift.

Visit Santa at The Pavilion Garden Centre, Ballygarvan

Dates: Weekends from November 25th to December 17th

Prices: €15 per child and adults go free.

Santa will return to The Pavilion again this year to greet all the girls and boys in advance of his round the world trip on Christmas morning!

Your Santa visit costs €15 per child and includes a children’s gift. You can add a family photograph for an extra cost if you wish.

Visit Santa in the magical setting of Donadea Forest Park where he will be living in the forest for a number of weeks before he goes back to the North pole.

A family outing that will combine woodland walks, wildlife, hot drinks,  and Santa.

• First day: Red Square , Saint Basil’s Cathedral , Zariadye Park, Bolshoi Theatre , Kremlin
• Day 2: Cathedral of Christ the Savior, the former Krasny Oktyabr factory on Balchug Island, Gorky Park, Moscow State University (one of the Seven Sisters buildings ) and Sparrow Hill

As 2 days os really short, be sure to choose an accommodation in the best districts where to stay in Moscow .

Walking on Red Square in Moscow: one of the unmissable things to do in Moscow

Iconic place and one of the must-see places in Moscow and even in Russia! Besides, if there was only one place to visit in Moscow in 2 days, this place would then be Red Square, without hesitation. Therefore, starting the city tour with Red Square is ideal . Several buildings are on the square, but not all of them have to be visited. Visiting Saint-Basil’s Cathedral inside

Even more emblematic than Moscow’s Red Square! Built in the middle of the 16th century under the orders of Tsar Ivan Le Terrible, this cathedral is one of the most beautiful monuments of Orthodox art, and definitely one of the unmissable places in Moscow. Take a walk in Zariadye park: one of the coolest things to do in Moscow after visiting Red Square

Zaryadie Park is just a 10-minute walk from St. Basil’s Cathedral, so it’s easy to include in your itinerary if you’re going to visit Moscow in 2 days. From its heights, you can see the red walls of the Kremlin. But, the most impressive point of view is the platform which overlooks the Moskva river. A must see! And clearly one of the coolest things to do in Moscow!

Visit the Cathedral of Christ the Savior

This impressive Moscow Cathedral is the seat of the Russian Orthodox Church. It is a must see if you visit Moscow in 2 days and clearly one of the things to do in Moscow. The Cathedral of Christ the Savior was first built in 1883 in memory of Russia’s victory over Napoleon’s Grand Army. Then in 1931 Stalin ordered its destruction. It was then rebuilt again (identically) only in 2000.

• Where? Ulitsa Volkhonka 15. At the foot of the Kropotkinskaya metro station.
• Opening hours . Daily: 10: 00-17: 00, except Monday: 13: 00-17: 00
• Free entry (some closing restrictions, for example a short)

Good to know! In orthodox religious places, one must avoid excessively uncovered clothing. Women should cover their heads. After visiting the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, you can explore Bolotny Island and Gorky Park. This is one of the routes our guide to Moscow.

The old Krasny Oktyabr factory: one of the coolest things to do in Moscow

If you cross the Moskva River by a pedestrian bridge which is located just in front of the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, you will enjoy a beautiful view of the city and at the same time you can discover Balchug Island. Furthermore, if you want to visit Moscow in 2 days, you can include this island in your itinerary between the cathedral and Gorky park. Here is the old confectionery factory Krasny Oktyabr, which has gradually turned into a fashionable micro-district. There are then some elements of street art, cafes and restaurants and some Moscow bohemian side. At the end of the island you can see a gigantic 98-meter-high monument dedicated to the Russian reforming tsar Pierre The Great.

Good to know! You can find on this island are the trendiest nightclubs in Moscow. On weekends, there are taxi caps after midnight so there are so many people. On the other hand, if you go there in winter and during the day, the island is quite empty and less interesting to see.

Gorky Park is one of the TOP places to visit in Moscow, because it allows you to better understand the life of the locals and their rhythm. In fact, it’s a huge entertainment park. For example, in winter there is a giant ice rink and in summer – free dance or yoga lessons, sandy beaches for playing volleyball, an outdoor cinema. So, like the locals, have a Stakantchik (ice cream or cooked corn), and enjoy the atmosphere of the place: that’s one of the interesting things to do in Moscow to discover the city.

• Where? Krymsky Val 9. 20 minutes’ walk from Krasny Oktyabr, along the quays.

Sparrow Hill and Moscow State University

The Sparrow Hill, Vorobiovy Gori in Russian, is the highest point in Moscow. It is rather known to Russians, but less to travelers. A nice view on Moscow opens from the hill, and in particular on the Luzhniki Stadium. In addition, on the hill itself is the Moscow State University: an impressive skyscraper from the Soviet era.

• How to get there? By bus T7 (35 min) from Oktyaborskaya station, near Gorki Park. By metro (Vorobiovy Gorki station) + climb the hill on foot. On foot along the Moskva along the Gorky Park (1h30) + climb in funiculars.

Good to know! It is possible to cross the Moskva river by funicular. We actually tested it and it was pretty cool! That is one of our favorite things to do in Moscow!

What to do in Moscow in 3 days?

If you are going to visit Moscow in 3 days, it would be interesting to dive into the Soviet era which strongly marked the country and the city. After the Bolshevik Revolution, the capital was transferred from Saint Petersburg to Moscow, in order to mark the change of power. Moscow then became the world showcase for communist ideology. Here are the best things to do in Moscow for 3-day-trip!

VDNKh, visit Moscow of the Soviet era

VDNKh is a large exhibition center in the north of Moscow, where there are still several striking witnesses of the USSR. The most interesting are the Museum of Cosmonauts and the Statue of the Worker and the Kolkhozian , which will certainly impress you with its size!

GULAG History Museum

The explanations of the museum are very well done. We really have the feeling of going back in time. If you are going to visit Moscow in 3 days and you are interested in history and this subject in particular, I recommend this museum. Visit the GULAG History Museum is one of the most interesting things to do in Moscow.

Discover the Patriarche Pounds district

It’s a nice neighborhood in Moscow where you can come across rather affluent locals, but not necessarily very bling-bling. Take a walk in this area is really a cool thing to do in Moscow! In addition, the Ponds of Patriarch is one of the places of Bulgakov’s novel “Master and Margarita”. As this is an interesting area to see, we have included it in a walking tour of Moscow. The route ends at the Moscow Kremlin, which is very convenient, because you will be able to visit Moscow in 3 days by optimizing your trips.

What to visit in Moscow in 4 days: TOP things to do in Moscow in 4 days

If you want to visit Moscow in 3 days, you will already see a lot of things. On the other hand, if you stay one more day, you have plenty to do! The Novodevichy Convent, the Tchistie Proudy district and the Izmaylovo Kremlin are very good candidates for you, if you are going to visit Moscow in 4 days.

Visiting Novodevichy Convent in Moscow

The Novodevichy Convent is one of the most brilliant examples of Russian architecture, according to UNESCO. This beautiful complex was built in 1524 and today consists of the convent, but also of a cemetery whose status could be compared to that of Père-Lachaise in Paris. Visiting Novodevichy Convent is one of the great things to do in Moscow, if you want to go a little bit outside of the center!

Discovering Tchistye Proudy district

It’s one of the most popular areas of Moscow, with many cafes, restaurants and bars nearby. It is therefore a place to discover if you want to visit Moscow in 4 days. It is just as pleasant for a stroll as for the discovery of local life. For example, in winter the pond turns into an ice rink.

Visiting the Izmaylovo Kremlin, one of the coolest things to do in Moscow!

The Izmaylovo Kremlin is more of a tourist than a historic place. On the other hand, it is a pretty impressive place to discover, especially on weekends. Inside the Kremlin, there is a flea market where you can find a little bit of everything, but mostly good souvenirs to bring from Moscow. For example, chapka, traditional Russian scarves or matryoshka (Russian dolls). Add the Kremlin and the Izmaïlovo market to your itinerary if you are going to visit Moscow in 4 days, because it is a nice and very colorful place! Visiting the Izmailovo Kremlin is one of the things to do in Moscow, if you want to put colors in your Instagram account! 😉

In 4 days, we will have the opportunity to see several Moscow: Classic Moscow, Moscow of old Russia, Soviet Moscow and a little bit of the new Moscow. So what to visit in Moscow on the 5th day of travel?

What to visit in Moscow in 5 days?

Art lovers will be delighted to discover the Tretyakov Gallery and the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts, while others will prefer to stroll along Arbat Street, see the buildings of Moskva-City or visit Bunker 42.

Admiring Russian art at Tretyakov Gallery

Founded in 1856 by an industrialist and great lover of art, the gallery has grown over the decades, and then bequeathed to the state. Today the collection includes more than 140,000 pieces, 15,000 of which are paintings. Visiting the Tretyakov Gallery is one of the things to do in Moscow if you want to discover Russian art!

• Where? Pereoulok Lavrouchinski 10. A 5-minute walk from Tretiakovskaya station
• Opening hours. Open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Closed on Mondays.
• Entry tickets. 500 RUB.

Visiting the Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts

The Pushkin Museum of Fine Arts presents the treasures of ancient Egypt, the paintings of Rembrandt and Cézanne, a fine collection of Impressionism.

• Where? Ulitsa Volkhonka 12
• Opening hours. Daily: 10: 00-20: 00, except Thursday: 11: 00-21: 00. Closed on Mondays. The boxes close an hour before closing.
• Entry tickets. The prices vary according to the collections from 300 to 750 RUB.

Walking on Arbat Street

All Russians know Rue Arbat. So, walking on Arbat street is one of the things to do in Moscow. However, after the years, little by little it became very touristy. This is a pedestrian street only. There are souvenir shops, restaurants and cafes there, but it is no longer the most authentic neighborhood in the city.

Seeing the buildings of Moskva-City (Moscow City)

Moskva-City is Moscow’s business center, much like Paris’s Defense district. The skyscrapers of Moskva-City are among the tallest in Europe: 373 meters high! Very nice place to see at dusk.

Good to know! You can admire a nice view of Moscow City from the docks of Tarasa Shevchenko. It’s especially beautiful in the evening with all the lights on.

Bunker 42, one of the most unusual things to do in Moscow

Bunker 42 is a secret military complex which was to be used by the Soviets in the event of a nuclear attack: a space of 7000 m² 65 meters underground!

• Where? 5 Kotelnitcheski Lane, 11.
• Prices. 2200 RUB per person
• Opening hours. Open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Restaurant inside. Original, but rather a tourist trap.

What to visit in Moscow in 6 days or more?

There are still so many places to see, because Moscow is a big megalopolis and there is always something exciting to do there. For example: the ancient Kolomenskoye village or the WINZAVOD contemporary art center .

If you are interested in history and want to see Russian cities on a rather “human scale”, it would certainly be interesting for you to discover the cities of the Golden Ring . For example, it is very easy to get to Sergey Posad from Moscow (less than 2 hours in train). Visiting the Golden Ring is one of the best things to do in Moscow if you are staying more than a 5-6 days.

The best things to do and places to visit in Moscow, Russia

While Moscow isn’t always at the top of everyone’s Europe bucket list , it’s certainly one of the best places to visit in Europe if you’re looking for a more alternative adventure! In this blog post I plan on sharing some of the free things to do in Moscow, as well as the best places to visit in Moscow, so that you can enjoy some of the best things to do in Russia! 

Moscow, the capital of Russia, sits in the European part of the country. It’s an incredibly beautiful city, which I personally found to be more beautiful than Saint Petersburg (which is often people’s preference). The capital is certainly a lot busier, and less laid back than Saint Petersburg , but it’s a much more colourful and vibrant city, full of stunning and unique architecture.

Visiting famous landmarks such as The Kremlin and St Basil’s Cathedral, enjoying some of the green space in Gorky Park, watching a ballet in the Bolshoi Theatre… these are just a few reasons that you should visit Moscow! On top of that, because of visa restrictions (we’ll get onto that later), it’s also one of the most unique destinations in Europe. 

There is a common misconception that Moscow is a dangerous city, but now that I’ve visited, I don’t believe this to be true. I would say the same rules apply here as to other large cities: avoid walking in dark areas alone at night, keep an eye on your belongings on public transport, and be streetwise. There’s no reason to avoid visiting this energetic city and miss out on these amazing things to do in Moscow! 

It would take months if you wanted to truly explore Moscow because it’s a huge city, but I’m going to share some of my favourite things to do in Moscow and places to visit in Moscow so that you can prepare for your upcoming adventure! Even if you’re only there for a few days, you should be able to fit in these highlights from my trip.

Once you’ve got your visa, the easiest way to get to Moscow from the UK is by flying. Direct flights between London and Moscow take just under four hours, and with an airport layover you’re looking at a 6-7 hour trip. You can also fly in from many other major European and international cities.

16 best places to visit in Moscow...

1. st basil’s cathedral.

The most iconic building in Russia and one of the most iconic buildings in the world. St Basil’s Cathedral is one of the best places to visit in Moscow, if not the best! 

St Basil’s is situated on Red Square, where you’ll also find many other popular places to visit in Moscow. In my opinion this still stands out against them all. There’s something about the multi coloured domes against the Moscow skyline that I found quite spectacular. 

Although I’d already been in Russia for several days, it wasn’t until I was at this amazing piece of architecture that I really felt I was in Russia.

The cathedral was built by order of Ivan the Terrible, and apparently after the architect completed it, Ivan blinded him so that he could never build anything more beautiful. Whether or not this story is true, it certainly adds a bittersweet feeling as you stand admiring the beauty of St Basil’s Cathedral.

Inside is a museum displaying many historic items once used at the cathedral, which costs 700 rubles to enter. In my opinion it’s worth the entry fee, as simply seeing the ornate interior walls is a spectacle in itself.

2. The Kremlin

This historic fortress that sits on Red Square is probably the largest landmark and one of the most popular places to visit in Moscow. It’s the official residence of the President, although he doesn’t actually live there. It’s been rebuilt many times since it was first constructed in 1147 out of wood, before Ivan III the Great ordered it to be made from stone, which is the Kremlin you’ll recognise today. 

This place is huge, and there’s quite a lot to see. The first problem I had was finding where the entrance was. Even though I had a pre-booked ticket, I was then told I still had to visit the ticket office to exchange it for another ticket. I also needed my passport, so make sure you have yours if you plan to visit the Kremlin. After a lengthy queue I finally had a ticket I could use to enter the Kremlin, and had to go through security. The security here is thorough, so make sure you don’t take too much in with you. I had my pockets full, and it was a nightmare emptying them and explaining each item, before I was finally allowed in. Once inside you can pay for extra tickets to visit the various museums, however there’s also quite a lot to see simply on the grounds if you don’t want to spend too much.

There’s so much to see here, including The Assumption Cathedral, Ivan the Great Bell Tower Complex, the Grand Kremlin Palace, the Armoury Chamber and Diamond Fund. There is also the Tsar Cannon (a huge artillery cannon), and the Tsar Bell. The Tsar Bell is the largest bell in the world. An incident with a fire and water being poured over the bell caused it to crack and for a slab to break off from it, which can now be seen propped up next to it.

As you walk around the grounds you’ll hear the sound of whistles. The guards patrolling the area will blow a whistle at anyone walking where they shouldn’t. Even if it’s just on the grass, or towards more restricted areas. This can sometimes be funny to watch, as often the tourists will be in a world of their own whilst a guard is blowing a whistle at them. Sometimes a guard will be stood face to face with a tourist angrily blowing their whistle before the tourist realises they need to get back onto the main path.

This is perhaps one of the more unusual places to visit in Moscow! Gum is a huge department store situated on Red Square. It’s an interesting department store to walk around, with several levels, although the shops inside are certainly quite pricey. It’s a beautiful building when it’s lit up at night, and it seems to fit in nicely amongst the other famous sights on Red Square. Even if you don’t plan to buy anything here, one of the best things to do in Moscow is to take a quick look inside, although bear in mind there are usually security checks before entering.

4. State Historical Museum

The large crimson building on Red Square is now the State Historical Museum. It was originally the first pharmacy in Russia, and later a University before finally becoming the museum it is today.

Unfortunately I didn’t go inside as my time was limited and there was so much else I wanted to see, but if you have the time I think it would be one of the best things to do in Moscow. There are items dating back to the 6th century, and maybe even further. There’s also a library inside storing many ancient manuscripts and the largest coin collection in Russia. 

5. Bolshoi Theatre

Bolshoi means big in Russian, so it roughly translates to large theatre. The Bolshoi Theatre is one of the foremost ballet companies in the world. The exterior of the building is an impressive sight, one of the most beautiful places to visit in Moscow, and it’s certainly worth admiring from the outside. There are guided tours of the interior, but if you really want to experience the theatre, one of the best things to do in Moscow is to watch a ballet here.

I was torn between booking a seat, but the ballets were very expensive. I’d have liked to have seen “Swan Lake”, (as at least I may have recognised some of the music). Unfortunately there were no performances on the days I was in Moscow, so I decided to pass. But if I return to Russia, then watching a ballet will be on my list of things to do.

6. Sparrow Hills

If you want a good view of the city, then Sparrow Hills is one of the best places to visit in Moscow. It’s a bit of a trek outside of the centre, but if you have the time then it offers an escape from the hustle and bustle of the busy city. There’s a viewing platform here which gives you fantastic panoramic views of Moscow.

Nearby you’ll see the magnificent Moscow State University building, which is one of the seven sisters of Moscow.

7. Seven Sisters

Whilst in Moscow, you’ll no doubt notice these magnificent soviet skyscrapers dotted around the city. At the time of construction they were the tallest buildings in Europe, Moscow State University being so until 1997. There are, as the name suggests, seven in total, which are: Hotel Ukraina, Kotelnicheskaya Embankment Apartments, the Kudrinskaya Square Building, the Hilton Moscow Leningradskaya Hotel, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Moscow State University, and the Red Gates Administrative Building.

If you visit Sparrow Hills, then you’ll come across Moscow State University, but I’m certain as you explore the city, you’ll see more of these giants against the Moscow skyline. One of the best things to do in Moscow is to see if you can locate all seven as you wander round the city! 

8. Nikolskaya Street

The start of this street is found by Red Square. It’s one of the most prominent pedestrianised streets in Moscow, filled with shops, restaurants and bars, so one of the best places to visit in Moscow if you’re looking for a bite to eat or some souvenirs!

What makes this street extra special are the thousands of bright lights in the sky above. After dark it looks simply magical with the many colourful lights overhead as you walk beneath them. One of the best things to do in Moscow is to visit Nikolskaya Street after dark and see them for yourself. It almost feels like Christmas in London!

There is another street nearby which also features similar lights, “Kuznetskiy Most”, which is also quite beautiful, but I thought “Nikolskaya Street” was ever slightly more impressive.

9. Izmailovo Kremlin and Izmaylovskiy Bazar

Did you know that The Kremlin in Red Square is not the only Kremlin in Moscow? Kremlin actually means a type of fortress, so there are many in Russia.

The Izmailovo Kremlin is a fairly new addition to the city, having been built in 2007 as a cultural centre. With its multitude of colours and historic style, it has a real fairytale feel to it. There are several small museums here for you to explore, devoted to subjects such as Russian folk art, vodka and bread (yes, bread). Visiting these is definitely one of the more unique things to do in Moscow! 

It’s a little way out of the centre, but it’s an interesting place to visit in Moscow to see something a little bit different, and it won’t be as overcrowded with tourists. 

Next to the Izmailovo Kremlin is the best market in Moscow for souvenirs. You’ll find good and poor quality items, but you’ll certainly pick up a bargain if you take your time and haggle for a good price. Many of the items here you’ll get for half the price you would in souvenir shops in the city centre. It’s here that I picked up several Matryoshka dolls for a very good price. I think I’d have paid more than double, or possibly even triple if I’d have bought them elsewhere.

10. Izmailovsky Park

Not too far from Izmailovo Kremlin you’ll find this huge park, one of the prettiest places to visit in Moscow. It’s easy to get lost here, so try to make sure you keep track of where you entered if you plan to go back the same way. There’s a lot to see in this park, a round pond, ferris wheel, playgrounds and sports grounds, shooting galleries, cinemas and a skate park.

There are often festivals, concerts and exhibitions at the park, on top of firework displays and dance parties.

The main reason I chose to visit the park was to find the painted trees. A local artist “Yevgenia Khlynina” has been painting on trees in this park, and one of the best things to do in Moscow is to explore the park looking for them. One of the most famous pieces of hers is the “Hedgehog in the Fog” from a famous soviet cartoon.

11. Gorky Park

The most famous park in Moscow is named after the writer “Maxim Gorky”. Although it’s likely you’ve heard it mentioned in the song “Wind of Change” by “The Scorpions”. 

There’s lots to do and see in the park with sports facilities and exhibitions. During the summer months this is one of the best places to visit if you’re looking for things to do in Moscow; there are often open air concerts and an open air cinema. There are many statues and sculptures in the park, including a small sculpture park area which features many interesting pieces.

One piece of advice: don’t visit Gorky Park or any other parks on 2nd August if you’re in Russia. 2nd August is Paratrooper day, which usually encourages a lot of drinking in the park, which is not always very welcoming.

12. Arbat Street

One of the oldest and busiest streets in Moscow, and the most famous pedestrian street in the city. Arbat is one of the most popular places to visit in Moscow. There are several shops including many dedicated to souvenirs, but although these will have a good range of goods, they will be quite expensive . You may see street performers and buskers, and there are often poets reciting famous works, if not their own works.

It’s within walking distance from the Kremlin, which should only take around 10 minutes.

There are actually two streets with this name, Old Arbat Street and New Arbat Street. Old Arbat Street is where you’ll find the pedestrianised area. New Arbat Street is a separate street which runs alongside a main road, filled with many bars and restaurants.

13. Metro station art

The best way to get around Moscow is by using the metro, and the metro is a tourist attraction in itself.

Although I obviously didn’t visit every metro station, I believe that every single station is unique in its own beautiful way. Many of the stations I passed through were impressive, quirky or simply jaw dropping. You’ll more than likely pass through many of them on the way to other sights, but I’d recommend the following:  Komsomolskaya, Novoslobodskaya, Mayakovskaya, Teatralnaya, Arbatskaya, Prospekt Mira and Ploschad Revolutsii (be sure to pet the dog statue for good luck).

There are of course many others for you to explore, but these are the ones I considered to be some of the most impressive places to visit in Moscow (even if they’re only metro stations!).

VDNKh is an exhibition centre with many monuments and museums. Now that it’s combined with the Botanical Garden and Ostankino Park, one of the best things to do in Moscow is to spend the day at this recreational centre enjoying a mix of nature and culture. The most popular museum in the complex which you shouldn’t miss on your trip to Moscow is the Museum of Cosmonautics.

15. Lenin's Mausoleum

Despite requesting to be buried with his mum in St Petersburg, it is at the foot of the Kremlin on Red Sqaure that you will find Lenin’s Mausoleum, where Vladimir Ilych Lenin has been frozen in time since 1924. It’s only open for a few hours a few times per week. Photography is not allowed, and you should line up on the western corner of the square (near Alexander Garden) to wait you turn to see the embalmed body. 

16. Novodevichy Convent

Novodevichy Convent, on the UNESCO World Heritage List, is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Moscow. Located south west of the centre you’ll find this stunning monastery. Inside you’ll find a cathedral and several churches, surrounded by high walls and 12 towers.
