How we rated the best and worst Dodge Journey years

During our evaluation of the Dodge Journey as a model, we’ve gone through the reports on various model years based on several sources. First, we relied on trustworthy organizations like the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and we went through their records including details on recalls and common driver complaints.

After that, we’ve done some more digging on Dodge Journey recalls through reliable platforms like Cars.com, as well as sources of authority like Edmunds and Kelly Blue Book. As mentioned, we wanted to give you honest Dodge Journey reviews and we could only do that by citing some forums with real experiences of previous drivers and Journey owners.

Most common Dodge Journey problems

The Dodge Journey might be a safe and reliable vehicle. However, it is not exempt from faults and flaws. Among the Dodge Journey most common problems you could run upon are brake problems, defective remote keyless entry systems, interior water leaks, or even damaged head gaskets, so we’ll discuss each of those in more detail.

1. Overheating engine

Engine issues are a common issue in faulty Dodge Journey model years. For the Dodge Journey, these problems happened in the 2009-2016 model years, causing overheating once they hit the 78,000-mile mark. This problem is likely caused by coolant flow challenges due to debris locking the cylinder head coolant port at its primary thermostat housing.

At first, the vehicle’s temperature light may turn on, but this worsens over time. Some Journey owners complained that their vehicles experienced engine power loss , leading to overheating. The vehicle may also develop coolant leaks, which become excessive for its overflow reservoir, causing coolant fluid to spill over.

These engine problems are usually expensive and dangerous, depending on where they happen. For a driver, you don’t want to encounter engine issues every day.

2. Brake problems

Brake issues were the most common troubles that plagued the Dodge Journey, especially its 2009-2010 model years. The brakes on these models wear out prematurely , which happens to relatively new Journey vehicles at about 30,000 miles. Some drivers mentioned that this issue has become severe, requiring them to replace their brakes every three months.

The abovementioned issues are among the few brake-related problems you could face if you purchase a problematic Dodge Journey model year. These issues are inconvenient and dangerous, especially for driving at high speeds. You want to avoid a vehicle that struggles with maintaining proper brakes.

3. Defective remote keyless entry system

The Dodge Journey has many cool features, and the remote keyless system is supposed to be one of them. Instead, the keyless system is another Dodge Journey feature that has become problematic for drivers.

Many frustrated owners complain that the system doesn’t work correctly as it gives off either wrong key readings or the annoying “key not detected” message. The system sometimes interferes with the key fob, preventing drivers from locking or unlocking the doors. To fix this issue, owners may need to do a software update.

4. Interior water leaks

Some owners of the 2009-2018 Dodge Journey models have expressed discomfort caused by dampness inside the cabin. The cabin appears vulnerable to water leaks , typically at a low mileage of about 50,000 to 60,000 miles. According to complaints from owners, the driver’s seat floor of the Dodge Journey may become wet when they travel in the rain.

Other drivers complained that they noticed leaks near the side of the Journey, causing wet floors and carpets. Additionally, some drivers reported leaks near windows, headliners, and vents, and you may need a professional to fix the leaks and resolve the issue.

5. Damaged head gasket

This is another notorious Dodge Journey issue among vehicle owners. Drivers note that this problem commonly happens at about 100,000 miles. It might begin with performance issues and graduate to engine failure over time. This may be due to cracked or damaged head gaskets.

Some drivers have reported having leaky or blown head gaskets , causing severe damage to the engine. Experts recommend a compression test to verify if your Journey has faulty head gaskets. If they are defective, you may replace them yourself if you are a DIYer or have a professional do the job.

Worst Dodge Journey years to avoid

The Dodge Journey has had several great models; however, there are also some model years you should avoid if you intend to purchase a Dodge Journey. Below is a list of Journey model years to avoid:

Naturally, our team will get you through all these model years and their issues so you can have an easier time picking the most reliable Journey model.

First-generation Journey (2009-2012 model years)

The 2009 Dodge Journey was the first model of this generation, and it was associated with numerous problems and complaints from drivers. Its prevalent issue was with the brakes, and many drivers complained of frequent brake replacements within a short timeframe. These drivers point out that the vehicle is too heavy for the brake pads and rotors.

Other drivers reported that regardless of how gentle you are with the vehicle, it doesn’t stop the brakes from wearing out at 30,000 miles or earlier. Additionally, the braking power isn’t sufficient for the size of the vehicle and can lead to disastrous accidents in the worst cases.

Another issue of the 2009 model year was with its transmission, which caused rough gear shifting . Some drivers complained that shifting the vehicle out of the first gear was difficult, especially during cold weather. Also, several drivers report that their transmission fails at around 60,000 miles, causing them to abandon the vehicle.

The 2009 and 2010 models were also plagued by electrical faults that prevented the engine from turning over, which may be caused by the neutral safety switch losing communication with the shifter. Most drivers had to put their vehicles in neutral to get the engine to start up. Some drivers also complained that they experience these issues on other components like the horn, windows, radios, etc.

2011 Dodge model year also had issues with the brakes, but unlike the 2009-2010 models, which had brakes that required premature replacements , the 2011 model had brakes that made grinding and squealing sounds. In addition to the noises, drivers complain that their 2011 Journey shakes the steering wheel while braking.

Best Dodge Journey years

The Dodge Journey has several years, which drivers have confirmed to be reliable while offering remarkable performance. So, are you still wondering what are the best Dodge Journey years to buy? The best Dodge Journey years are 2005, 2017, and 2020. Still, there’s a full list of best-rated models:

These Dodge Journey models are some of the best years to date and provide excellent performance. If you are searching for the best Journey years to buy, these years are great choices, and they would give little to no problems without any cause for expensive repairs.

2005 Dodge Journey

Based on all the available NHTSA records and reliability reports, the 2005 Dodge Journey is the best model to date. It only received a few complaints including some engine cooling difficulties, but none of those reports were sufficient to place the model on a list of problematic years.

With a clean reliability record , the model scored a decent overall rating of 4 out of 5 based on reliable automotive agencies.

2017 Dodge Journey

As for the later model years, the 2017 Dodge Journey made it to the list as one of the most reliable options. It received model-specific concerns with some of the main complaints being related to A/C heater faults and electrical malfunctions.

2020 Dodge Journey

Finally, we can’t leave out the 2020 Journey model which also proved to be pretty reliable with just under 10 reliability concerns. Among those, drivers have mostly reported problems with seat belts and brakes, while the model received an overall rating of 4.2 out of 5 on Cars.com and similar sources.

Is the Dodge Journey worth buying?

The Dodge Journey is an excellent SUV with remarkable performance. However, it doesn’t have a reasonable edge over its rivals, as consumers complain that the vehicle is made from cheap interior materials and lacks a host of safety features that can be found in most competitors.

If you’re eyeing versatile SUVs check out Ford Explorer Sport Trac years to avoid , Nissan Xterra years to avoid , or Mitsubishi Outlander years to avoid . While these vehicles are known for their ruggedness and capability, it’s vital to consider that not all model years have lived up to expectations.

What is the most common problem with the Dodge Journey?

The remote keyless entry system is Dodge Journey’s most reported issue. According to drivers, the system gives off the wrong readings or the u0022key not detectedu0022 message.

Is a Dodge Journey a reliable car?

The Dodge Journey is reliable as long as you keep away from its worst model years.

How many miles can you expect from a Dodge Journey?

The Dodge Journey can last up to 200,00 miles under ideal maintenance conditions.

Should I buy a Dodge Journey?

Yes, you can buy a Dodge Journey; however, you want to avoid buying its worst years. Also, it would be best if you considered its interior before making a purchase.

Dodge Journey

Common 1st gen Dodge Journey problems include no heat and issues with the throttle body. Learn the common problems on the 1st generation of the Dodge Journey, years 2009 to 2020, and their symptoms, causes, and fixes.

Fix your 1st gen Dodge Journey yourself with quality auto parts at 1aauto.com

Top 5 Issues with the 1st Gen Dodge Journey (2009 to 2020)

1. heater core problems, symptoms of heater core problems.

  • No heat when the heat is turned on
  • Heat temperature is lower than normal

Causes of a Bad Heater Core

The heater core can clog on the 1st gen Journey from sediment in the coolant.

How to Fix a Bad Heater Core

As a temporary fix you can flush out the heater core by disconnecting the coolant hoses that lead into the firewall and connect to the heater core.

Replacing the heater core includes removing the dash, the steering wheel, and electronics like the radio. The A/C evaporative core is also part of the heater box, so the A/C system will need to be recovered and recharged.

2. Throttle Body Problems

Symptoms of throttle body problems on the 2009 to 2020 dodge journey.

  • High RPMs at idle
  • Rough running engine at idle
  • Check engine light for code P2112 or P2110

How to Fix Throttle Body Problems

Cleaning the throttle body will not fix these problems on the 2009 to 2020 Dodge Journey. The problem is an issue with the internal sensors and motor, so the throttle body will need to be replaced.

3. Key Fob Failure

Symptoms of a bad key fob.

  • Vehicle won’t start
  • Door locks don’t work

How to Fix a Key Fob

If there is another remote, see if it works. If it doesn’t, replacing the key fob battery usually fixes this issue.

4. Thermostat Failure

Symptoms of a bad thermostat.

  • Check engine light for code P0652

How to Fix a Bad Thermostat

Low temperature gauge is a sign of thermostat problems on the 2009 to 2020 Dodge Journey

To replace the thermostat, the thermostat needs to be replaced with the housing as one piece. Since a bad heater core can also cause the symptom of no heat, if the temperature gauge is not in its usual position, the thermostat likely has an issue.

5. Wiper Relay

Symptoms of wiper problems.

  • Wiper speeds not working
  • Windshield wipers not working

Causes of Windshield Wiper Problems

Windshield wiper problems on the 1st gen Dodge Journey tend to stem from issues with the wiper relay. If the wipers won’t turn on, it could be the motor relay, and if the wipers have issues with the settings, it could be the wiper speed relay.

How to Fix Wiper Problems

Pointing to the speed control relay placed next to the identical wiper motor relay

Remove the fuse box cover from the fuses in the engine bay.

Since the relays are the same part number, they could be swapped, so if the wipers are not turning on, try swapping them to see if it’s causing the issue.

If there is an issue with the wipers’ speed, the wiper speed relay will need to be swapped with a new relay to test it.

Edmunds' Expert Review

  • Minivan-like interior conveniences, plenty of advanced entertainment and communications options, quiet highway ride.
  • Some down-market interior trim, lackluster driving dynamics.

The 2009 Dodge Journey is an all-new midsize crossover SUV derived from the Avenger sedan and capable of seating up to seven passengers.

Edmunds says

The 2009 Dodge Journey is the brand's long-overdue pitch to buyers who want minivan conveniences without the minivan stigma. It's versatile and spacious, but it doesn't really stand out against more polished competitors.

Cost to Drive Cost to drive estimates for the 2009 Dodge Journey SE 4dr SUV (2.4L 4cyl 4A) and comparison vehicles are based on 15,000 miles per year (with a mix of 55% city and 45% highway driving) and energy estimates of $3.42 per gallon for regular unleaded in North Dakota.

Vehicle overview.

A late arrival on the bustling midsize crossover SUV scene, the 2009 Dodge Journey serves as a timely stand-in for Chrysler's departed short-wheelbase minivans. The Journey is related to the Avenger and Chrysler Sebring midsize sedans, but thanks in part to a 4.9-inch-longer wheelbase, it offers ample room for up to seven occupants.

The Journey excels on the inside, where the influence of Chrysler's minivans is unmistakable. From the Flip 'n Stow storage compartment under the front passenger seat to the Chill Zone glovebox beverage cooler, the Journey is loaded with clever, well-conceived minivan-style conveniences. It can also be had with MyGIG, Chrysler's hard-drive-based navigation and entertainment system.

Pricing is one of the Journey's strengths, as even the base SE model is fairly well-equipped and slips in just beneath the $20,000 mark. Unfortunately, however, the standard four-cylinder engine and four-speed automatic transmission aren't quite up to the task of motivating the hefty SE's 3,800 pounds with anything close to authority. The uplevel SXT and R/T models fare a bit better, thanks to a more capable V6 engine and six-speed automatic, but there's little doubt that athletic prowess isn't the Journey's strong suit. Even the sport-styled R/T comes off less planted and certainly less fun to drive than some of its rivals.

Overall, the 2009 Dodge Journey gets the basics right -- it's attractive, quiet and reasonably spacious. But it falls a bit short in a few key areas. Its interior is less refined than those found in competitors like the Hyundai Santa Fe and Toyota RAV4, for instance. It's also less enjoyable to drive than the Mitsubishi Outlander and not as roomy as the Ford Taurus X. Still, the Journey's attractive pricing and interior amenities will likely make it worth a look.

Performance & mpg

The base-model Journey SE comes with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine rated for 173 horsepower and 166 pound-feet of torque. It drives the front wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission. Uplevel SXT and R/T trim levels employ a 3.5-liter V6 that produces 235 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque. It's matched to a six-speed automatic transmission with manual shift control. On these trim levels, buyers have a choice of front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

The EPA gives an AWD Journey a 15 mpg city/22 mpg highway fuel economy estimate, about average for this segment.

Every 2009 Journey includes antilock disc brakes, traction control, rollover-sensing stability control, front-seat side airbags and side curtain airbags for all three rows. A rearview camera and hands-free communication system are optional, as are very handy built-in second-row child booster seats, a first in this segment.

The 2009 Journey is no lightweight, with even the base SE model tipping the scales at a hefty 3,800 pounds. The standard four-cylinder engine from the Avenger sedan, although reasonably frugal, is simply out of its league here. The V6 in the SXT and R/T models is decidedly more appropriate, returning decent acceleration and passing power.

On the open road, the Journey is tranquil enough, but it often feels insubstantial and fussy. Body roll, even in the sporty R/T model, is disconcerting at times. Standard four-wheel antilock disc brakes provide good stopping power, but more pedal feel would be appreciated.

Although the 2009 Dodge Journey offers somewhat less passenger and cargo space than such rivals as the Toyota Highlander, the overall impression is of a bright, reasonably spacious, straightforward family hauler. The Journey will accommodate as many as seven occupants in decent comfort; second- and third-row seats feature reclining backs, and the second-row seats also slide fore and aft, allowing parents to scoot small children closer to the front seats. Access to the third-row seats is a breeze, easily accomplished by older kids, with only an easy pull of a lever required to operate the second-row seats' tilt-and-slide mechanism. There's also obvious influence from Chrysler's minivans, as the Journey's interior is awash in cupholders, lidded storage bins and cubbyholes, including tubs beneath the second-row floor and an ingenious compartment beneath the front passenger seat. Maximum cargo capacity is 67.6 cubic feet, a bit less than what's available from other midsize crossovers.

2009 Dodge Journey models

A midsize crossover SUV, the 2009 Dodge Journey comes in SE, SXT and R/T trim levels. All models have seating for five or, with the optional 50/50-split folding third-row bench available on the SXT and R/T, seven.

The base SE comes with 16-inch steel wheels, a tilt/telescoping steering wheel, air-conditioning, a six-speaker stereo with a six-disc CD/MP3 changer, and full power accessories. The midgrade SXT adds 17-inch alloy wheels, automatic headlamps, heated side mirrors, a trip computer, keyless entry, enhanced interior storage, stain-resistant cloth upholstery, a six-way power driver seat, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, a 115-volt power outlet and satellite radio. Finally, the top-drawer R/T features 19-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, dual-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with integrated audio controls and a remote engine-start system.

Dodge bundles most of the Journey's optional features into packages, and one can get much of the upper trim levels' features as options for the lower trims. Other major options include a chrome appearance package, Bluetooth, auxiliary rear air-conditioning/heating, a rear-seat entertainment system and the MyGIG hard-drive-based navigation and entertainment system with a back-up camera.

Dodge Journey Problems: 8 Common Issues (Explained)

' src=

The most common problems and possible solutions are listed below.

Table of Contents

Remote Keyless Entry System Works Intermittently

If your remote keyless entry system starts acting weird and only working sometimes, you might get frustrated.

It’s a huge inconvenience not to have technology work the way you expect it to. But, there’s an easy fix for the problem.

dodge 2009 journey problems

Probable Causes and Solutions

The most common reason your Dodge Journey remote keyless entry system may begin working intermittently is because there is a problem with the component’s software .

Usually, updating the software will correct the problem.

If you upgrade the software and continue to have problems with the remote keyless ignition system, you should visit a Dodge dealership and have the problem diagnosed.

If the problem isn’t related to a software update, it could be an issue with the keyfob itself. If the keyfob has gone bad, it might be necessary to replace the keyfob.

A Dodge-certified technician can also upgrade the software for you.

Unexplained Dampness Inside a Dodge Journey

If you enter your vehicle and notice unexplained dampness, it could create an uncomfortable ride and be upsetting. Afterall, water isn’t supposed to leak inside a vehicle.

But unexplained dampness inside the vehicle of the Journey is a common problem, and is easily fixed.

Most often, especially in models 2009 to 2018, unexplained dampness in the interior of the Journey is from a water leak .

dodge 2009 journey problems

Improperly sealed body seams can let water into the vehicle and create dampness.

If this is the reason your Journey is getting wet inside, the problem can be fixed by having the seals replaced and properly installed.

Engine Overheating Due to Coolant Flow Problem

If your Dodge Journey was made between 2009 and 2018, you may have issues with your engine overheating. It seems the problem can occur at anytime during the Journey’s existence.

Vehicles with as low as 20,000 miles have experienced this issue as well as Journeys with well over 100,000 miles too.

Usually, it needs diagnosed by a Dodge mechanic. But, there are easy solutions to prevent this problem from happening again.

If you have debris in your engine, it could cause a coolant flow issue.

If there’s a disruption in your coolant flow, the engine could overheat.

If not corrected, an engine overheating could cause serious damage to the engine. When debris blocks the cylinder head at the coolant port of the thermostat housing, the right amount of coolant won’t reach the engine.

dodge 2009 journey problems

Removing the debris from the engine and especially around this port fixes the problem.

Check Engine Light with Diagnostic Code P0339

If your check engine light comes on, it’s a good idea to have a diagnostic test to determine what the cause of the warning is.

If you get a P0339 code, there is probably a problem with the vehicle’s crankshaft position sensor.

This issue is most common with 2009, 2010, 2012, and 2016 Dodge Journeys. Also, check our list of typical reasons the check engine light appears .

The crankshaft position sensor check engine light code will cause intermittent loss of power to this component.

To correct this problem, a technician may be able to add a shim to the crankshaft sensor .

If this does not correct the problem, it might be necessary to replace the sensor and flex plate.

Inaccurate Speed Settings and/or Excessive RPMs

If you notice your Journey is revving high or showing that you’re driving excessively, you might have a problem with the vehicle’s powertrain control module (PCM).

This is even more likely if you notice the problem when using cruise control.

Thankfully, inaccurate speed settings and unusually high RPMs can be related to an issue with the Journey’s software.

In most cases, updating the software for the powertrain control module (PCM) will correct the problem.

Updating the software can be done at a Dodge dealership.

Dodge Journey Seats Showing Signs of Corrosion

Dodge Journey 2009, 2010, and 2013 Journeys may show signs of wear, specifically around the seat frames.

If you notice rust around the vehicle’s seat frames, it’s important not to ignore the problem.

Instead, you should take the vehicle to a Dodge dealership to have corrosion inhibitor in the affected areas. There are also revised covers for the second row available to help prevent the issue from progressing.

Rough Idle after Cold Start on Dodge Journey with V6 Engines

2009 and 2010 Dodge Journey drivers have reported rough idling after a cold start .

The problem usually only occurs with Journeys equipped with a V6 engine.

Sometimes when this happens, a check engine light will come on. Diagnostic testing will show code P050D.

If your vehicle is showing a P050D diagnostic code, the rough idling after a cold start could be due to a problem with the powertrain control module (PCM).

After a mechanic diagnoses the problem, they can tell you whether a software upgrade will correct the issue, or if a replacement part is needed.

Dodge Journey is Stuck in Park

There’s nothing more frustrating then getting in your vehicle and realizing it won’t start. If your Journey is stuck in park, you will need to see a technician to have the problem corrected.

Dodge is aware of this problem and has issued a recall to correct the issue.

A Journey shifter getting stuck in park is likely due to the material used to create the shifter .

Making an appointment at a Dodge dealership will give technicians the opportunity to replace the parts and ensure you’re vehicle shifts every time you need it too.

Dodge Journey Brakes Wearing Out Prematurely

Some people go through brake pads faster than others, but if you drive a Dodge Journey, it might not be your fault. When the car manufacturer created the 2009 and 2010 Journeys, they did so with the best SUV technology and developed a crossover vehicle that was pleasurable to drive.

But they added brakes that were more suitable to a sedan.

The sedan brakes created a need for new brakes at just about 12,000 miles.

Dodge drivers filed a class-action lawsuit that extended the warranty of the vehicle’s brakes by three years.

If you notice your brakes have worn out quickly on your Journey, it’s a good idea to have them checked out.

Of course, it’s also important to have the parts replaced as needed to ensure the vehicle is safe to drive.

Dodge Journey 2009 Problems

Are you having problems with your 2009 Dodge Journey? Let our team of motoring experts keep you up to date with all of the latest 2009 Dodge Journey issues & faults. We have gathered all of the most frequently asked questions and problems relating to the 2009 Dodge Journey in one spot to help you decide if it's a smart buy.

dodge 2009 journey problems

Ewan Kennedy reviews the 2008, 2012 and 2015 Dodge Journey as a used buy.

Despite looking like a macho SUV, perhaps even a full-on 4WD, the Dodge Journey is actually a sensible people mover with three rows of seats and the ability to carry seven adults. Four adults and three children is a more realistic load.

Note that it’s a 2WD, front wheels only, so shouldn't be taken off the beaten track. Dirt roads and forest trails are fine if you know what you’re doing, beaches are a definite no-no.

The Americans love their minivans and Dodge Journey has been a big success on the other side of the Pacific, but sales here have been only moderate since it first arrived downunder in August 2008.

Journey’s interior is very versatile; the second row seats three and can slide back and forward to let you juggle legroom with those in the rearmost seats. Entry and egress to the third-row seats isn’t too bad, but as is usually the case those seats are better suited to the kids as suppleness is required. Also check the foot-room in rear if larger littlies are going to be back there.

The second and third row seats each sit slightly higher than the ones in front to improve forward visibility.

There are plenty of stowage areas for various items, including two bins under the rear floor. The backrest of the front passenger seat folds down leaving a work area for the driver.

Though it’s relatively large, the Dodge Journey is quite easy to drive as it’s more than the typical American minivan. However, forward-side visibility is hampered by large windscreen pillars that sit a long way forward of the driver’s seat. A turning circle of almost 12 metres doesn’t assist manoeuvring in carparks.

Handling of the Journey is competent enough – for a people mover, that is – and unless you do something really silly you aren't likely to get into trouble. Electronic stability program , to assist in crash avoidance, is standard in all Journeys.

Power is by either a V6 petrol or four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. The petrol unit in the original 2008 model had a capacity of 2.7 litres and had barely enough performance. Try for yourself on hilly roads with a bunch of passengers on board if you’re likely to be travelling with that sort of load in those conditions. From March 2012 a far more suitable V6 petrol, now of 3.6 litres, improved things considerably.

Dodge Journey’s 2.0-litre diesel can be slow off the mark, but once it’s up and running it has good torque for overtaking and hillclimbing.

At the same time as the 2012 introduction of the bigger petrol engine the Journey received a facelift and tail tuck as well as some interior updates, the latter including a new dash design.

The Journey has good under bonnet space and home mechanics can do a fair bit of their own work. Don’t touch the safety items, though.

Spare parts prices are about average. We have heard complaints about bits not being available and about long waits for parts coming from the USA. It might be an idea to contact your local Dodge / Chrysler dealer to have a talk about this before committing to purchase. These days Fiat and Chrysler operate together globally so Fiat dealers may be able to assist.

Insurance companies seem to look at the Journey as an SUV and charge accordingly. Having said that, costs are about average for that class.

The Dodge Journey is built in Mexico to a reasonably high standard. It has a good paint finish and panel fit, but the interior and trim aren't always as neat and accurate as in Japanese and Korean cars.

Look for damage to the carpets, seats and door trim for signs of either poor build or damage caused by unhappy children.

The petrol engines should start almost straight away. If not there could be problems.

Diesel engines can take a few seconds to get up and running, especially when cold. A warning light lets you know when the engine has gone through its pre-heat stage.

Automatic transmissions should work smoothly and easily, but that in the diesel might be a bit recalcitrant at times at very slow speeds. Get a professional to check it if you have any doubt.

Brakes should pull you up in a straight line without wavering.

Uneven tyre wear me be caused by bad driving or a suspension problem. In either case it’s a good sign to keep clear of the car.

It's not news that peoplemovers aren't sexy.

They're practical, efficient transport for large families, but with the Journey Chrysler attempted to sex up the image of the box-on-wheels by making it look like a much more sexy offroader.

Although the Journey looks like an offroader, it's really a front-wheel drive, seven-seat peoplemover. But it's not the huge monster the term peoplemover suggests; it's actually modestly sized, particularly given that it will accommodate seven adults in quite acceptable comfort.

It's inside where the Journey stars. First, it has three rows of seats arranged in studio style; with each row higher than the one in front as you move back in the vehicle. That means everyone gets a good view, which isn't always the case with peoplemovers.

In addition the second row seats can be split, slid fore and aft, and tilted, while the third row seats can be folded flat or split 50/50, for the sort of flexibility a family on the move needs.

There's plenty of space left behind the third seat for carrying things, and there's a plethora of other storage possibilities with bins, pockets, cubbies, trays and underseat storage space spread throughout the cabin.

Chrysler offered two engines in the Journey, a 2.7-litre V6 petrol and a 2.0-litre common-rail turbo-diesel. While they both did a workman-like job of moving the Journey along, they both struggled under the weight of the task.

Performance as a result was adequate rather than brisk. There were also two transmissions of offer. If you bought the V6 you got a conventional automatic with sequential shift, but if you opted for the diesel you got a six-speed dual-clutch DSG gearbox.

Chrysler offered three models in the range, from the entry level SXT, through the R/T and finally to the R/T CRD diesel. All were well equipped, even the SXT had dual-zone climate controlled air, cruise, power driver's seat, and six-stacker CD sound, while the R/T models had leather trim, a reversing camera, and heated front seats.

The earliest Journeys to hit our shores are now four years old and have on average accumulated up to 80,000 km. The good news is that, to date, they have been fundamentally sound, and there have been no reports of issues with engines, gearboxes, even the DSG, or drivelines and chassis.

The only serious problem of a mechanical nature that has shown up is the rapid wear of brakes. There appears to be no issue with the actual braking of the car, but it seems the braking system has to work hard to stop the car and wears as a result.

Owners report having to replace, not only pads, but also disc rotors after 15,000 to 20,000 km. That usually results in a bill of around $1200, something owners can expect to face on an on-going basis for as long as they own the car, and something that prospective buyers should take into account when considering a Journey.

While brakes are not generally covered by the new-car warranty, Chrysler is being co-operative in replacing rotors free of charge when owners arc up. Build quality can be variable and that can show up as squeaks, rattles and cabin components failing, falling off, buckling and warping etc.

When inspecting a car prior to purchase give the interior a thorough going over, make sure all systems work, and there's nothing about to fall off anywhere. We have had one report of a radio going on the blink, and the owner has been waiting for several months for a replacement to arrive.

Owners have also told us of difficulties they've had in getting parts when their cars do strike trouble. One has been waiting for more than a year for a catalytic converter to replace the one that has failed on his car. But despite the problems most owners say they are more than happy with the practicality of the Journey for use as family transport.

2009 Dodge Journey Brake Problems: An In-Depth Guide

Brakes are a critical safety feature in any vehicle; when they fail, it's a serious concern. The 2009 Dodge Journey owners have reported issues that can affect their driving experience and safety. This article will look closely at the 2009 Dodge Journey brake problems , exploring symptoms to watch for and contributing factors to these issues. By understanding these problems, owners can take proactive steps to maintain their vehicle's safety and performance.

Identification and Symptoms

Brake problems can show up in different ways. In the 2009 Dodge Journey, drivers may notice a few key symptoms. One might hear a squealing or grinding noise when applying the brakes, indicating worn brake pads or damaged rotors. Another sign of trouble is a brake pedal that feels soft or spongy when pressed; this could be due to air in the brake lines or a problem with the master cylinder. If the Journey pulls to one side during braking, it could be a sign that the brake calipers are not functioning evenly. Lastly, if the ABS warning light on the dashboard turns on, it's a clear signal that the vehicle needs immediate attention from a mechanic.

Factors Contributing to Brake Problems

Several factors can contribute to brake problems in the 2009 Dodge Journey . Over time, normal wear and tear can cause the brake pads and rotors to wear down, needing replacement. Exposure to harsh conditions like salt on the roads during winter can lead to corrosion and rust, damaging brake components. Additionally, the hydraulic system that operates the brakes may develop leaks, leading to a loss of brake fluid. This can compromise the brake system's ability to create the necessary pressure to bring the vehicle to a stop. Lastly, a malfunction in the anti-lock braking system (ABS) can also lead to issues with braking efficiency and safety. Regular inspections and maintenance by a professional can help identify these issues early and keep the braking system in good working order.

Tips for Addressing Minor Brake Issues

If you're driving a 2009 Dodge Journey and noticing small brake changes, don't worry just yet. Sometimes, minor brake issues can be resolved with simple fixes. For example, a squeaky brake can often be silenced with lubricant applied to the right part, or it might just mean your brake pads need changing. Check the brake fluid level to see if your pedal feels soft. Topping it off might solve the problem.

Importance of Seeking Expert Help

While you can manage some brake problems in your 2009 Dodge Journey on your own, often, you'll need to seek expert help. Brake systems are complex, and fixing them goes beyond simple maintenance. Mechanics have the right tools to diagnose problems accurately. They can ensure that repairs are done correctly, saving you time and money in the long run. More importantly, professionals can ensure that your car is safe to drive. They understand the significance of each part of the brake system and can offer advice on keeping it in top condition.

Risks Associated with Faulty Brakes

Faulty brakes are not just a repair issue but a serious safety risk. If your brakes aren't working properly, it could take longer to stop your car, or you might not be able to stop at all. This puts you and others on the road in danger. In your 2009 Dodge Journey, if you notice any brake problems, you must take them seriously. Faulty brakes can lead to accidents, which can cause injury and even be fatal. That's why it's so important to address any brake issues as soon as they arise and ensure that your vehicle's brake system always functions correctly.

The most intensive transportation in Russia is high-density traffic between St. Petersburg and Moscow . Two Russian capitals are tied by several means of transport, and each of them is preferred by different people, having different reasons for that. Each type of transportation, by car, by train and by plane has its advantages and disadvantages, tied with the price and time you spend traveling.

First of all, the Russian capitals are tied with the M10 highway, which begins in the traffic jam on the Leningradsky Avenue and goes through St. Petersburg farther to Vyborg and to the frontier with Finland as M10 Scandinavia. The distance between St. Petersburg and Moscow amounts to 664 km. The M10 highway has the drives to the cities of Novgorod and Tver . Going down the highway, you pass them by, and the journey takes you about 8 hours. The main advantage of the journey by car is that you dispose your time without depending on any schedules. The main disadvantage is that the road is rather difficult. The first problem is traffic jams in Moscow; the second one is unimproved road, now under reconstruction, in the Novgorod Region . Third one is tracks, especially on the pieces of the road reducing. The last, but very important problem is rather wild style of driving in Russia, being practiced by all the road users, including the track drivers. The price of such journey depends on the model of the car, you will drive.

Rent a car in Moscow

2. By train

This way to get from St. Petersburg to Moscow and back is the oldest and the most popular ones. Moreover, the railroad between St. Petersburg and Moscow is the oldest one in Russia. The cheapest ticket in the coach costs 580 rubles. Such train runs the same 8 hours, the driving would take you.

3. By plane

The flight from St. Petersburg to Moscow or back takes the traveler 1 hour 20 minutes. A plenty of air carriers provides such service, from Aeroflot, the oldest, most respectable and expensive air company of Russia to low cost companies like Sky-express. The prices of the tickets begin from 500 rubles without airport charge and other extras. All the Moscow airports provide this service about three times a day. Doubtless, this way is the fastest one, especially if you use on-line registration. Unfortunately, not all of us like flying and plains.

I need your advice for the interview. Yulia and I communicate twice a day via messenger or icq. I think she reads and write near perfect english but she feels uncomfortable speaking english. I visited her twice and the first time she spoke really well with the help of a dictionary. On my second visit she hardly used the dictionary at all. We are really concerned that this might cause a problem if she doesnt understand a question from the CO or if she speaks the answer incorrectly. Is it unheard of if she asks to have the inteview in Russian?

She will be given a choice to have the interview in Russian or English. I am not sure about now, but a few years back it seemed the girls who spoke English during their interview had an easier and quicker interview. They asked my wife questions in Russian but she replied in English.

Neonred is correct she will be given a choice to have the interview done in English or Russian, however My Natasha told me that she noticed that the girls who got the least hassle and the least questions were the ones who spoke English at least well enough to answer the questions. A red flag goes up because they figure how can she communicate with him. Also the CO may start the interview in Russian and just start asking questions in English, not to trick anyone but it is their native language.

baron555   934

She'll be asked "What language do you use when you two communicate?" If the answer is "English", then the interview will be conducted in that language. (Only makes sense.)

You two should be on the phone with each other, not chatting or texting, and you ask her all the questions and she should know the answers. Rehearse now.

One important note: if she translated her own documents, she will be required to do the interview in English.

You never know what you will get when you have an interview. I would agree with the suggestion to have her conduct it in English. It eliminates any concerns about how the two of you will communicate.

Sometimes the interview can be easy. I heard of one where the only question asked was "How are you today". There is a list of questions they are likely to ask here somewhere. I would highly recommend you get that list with any answers she wouldn't know before the interveiw.

Sometimes they can ask questions you might never think about. The interview for my first fiancee was a disaster. I will discuss it in some detail here but don't let this scare you. We had the C/O from hell and he is long gone. I printed out the list of questions and had planned on going over them with her the night before the interview. Someone on another forum suggested I don't do that. That after 4 trips and 7 weeks together she should know everything they would ask and if I have her cram with the answers it would just make her nervous and make it harder for her. I thought that sounded like good advice and followed it. Big mistake.

I went with my fiancee to the Embassy and was the only one there waiting for a fiancee. She went through the gates at 15 to 8 and I waited outside. They called her to the window and took her papers and asked if she wanted to have the interview in English or Russian. She said Russian and he said, I can do it in Russian but if I do, I will not give you the visa. She said English.

He asked how many times we had met. She answered 4.

He asked for the names of my children. She knew I had a son and a daughter but because of the langauge problems I just always had said my son did this or my daughter did this and like an idiot had never used their names thinking she could understand who I was talking about. Anyway, she didn't know, ( Missed question 1)

He then asked for my phone number. (She didn't know, missed question 2)

He then asked for my street address. (She didn't know, missed question 3) and end of interview. She got a 221-G (intent to deny) instead of the visa.

She came out with SpaDudes wife (a former poster here) and broke the bad news to me. I ended up flying home alone with an empty seat beside me that was intended and paid for her to be there. SpaDudes bride to be had much better luck.

We did end up getting the visa three weeks later after faxing a massive amount of proof and worrying endlessly during that time. It didn't work out anyway and she went back to Russia 89 days after she arrived.

My point in mentioning this is that you should make sure she knows your phone number, your mailing address, the names of any children, brothers, sisters, mom and dad and anyone else they might ask. Those are things some of us would never think of.

Another minus for us in their eyes was that we communicated mostly through SMS. Sometimes 10-15 a day and I had a print out showing that we had 2000 SMS messages back and forth. They didn't seem to put much stock in that so I might be a little concerned that most of your communicatins are IM. You should be ok though.

Fortunately my second fiancee's (my wife of 2 plus years now) interview went much smoother. Good Luck

12/14/2006 Applied for K-1 with request for Waver for Multiple filings within 2 years. Our journey is complete.

It definitely pays to be prepared. We went over the list of interview questions, although I thought as you did Turboguy, we'd been "together" long enough that it shouldn't be necessary. I'm glad we did though, they asked her a question that she didn't know before we went over the list (can't remember, it was something stupid like what kind of car I drive), and while I don't get the impression it would have made or broke the interview, it seems like it gave her a little shot of confidence to have answered such an obscure question.

Having said that, I really believe that unless you run into a situation like Turboguy's (where the interviewer was obviously just looking to deny due to sunspot activity or it was an odd-numbered Wednesday or something), the decision has been 90% made before the interview. If your "bona fides" are in order and you and your fiancee both know the relationship is real, then the visa is practically a given. It's when people start trying to game the system or think they have to lie when it gets complicated.

Nice to see you around again Turboguy!

Most K-1's get approved with little difficulty. Just the same, it is better to be over prepared than to take chance on needing to rescue the situation.,

Thanks everyone we've been been talking with Yahoo voip and she is doing great with english!!! She has been studying english and I am confident she will do great at the interview. We've also been going over possible questions and going over how everyone in my family fits in. I have one of those average american families with half siblings as well as step siblings.

Has anyone compiled a list of possible interview questions? I've seen many posts with almost duplicate questions but every once in a while I find a post that has a question I havent come across.

Thanks again.

Do a search here in the RUB forum, it's out there somewhere. I'm a computer-fktard so I don't know how to do that kind of stuff.

Do a search for my posts at the end of November about Alla's interview and some of the posts around that time where the interviewee had some unusual questions.

Make sure she knows about your divorce, how many kids you have, maybe your phone number and address, maybe all about your criminal history, or about the dating web site you used. Also make sure she has adequate and various proofs of your ongoing relationship, copies of emails, chats, chat logs, etc. Also draft up a nice Summary of Our Relationship which describes your relationship, how you communicate, what you talk about, and include the lovey dovey stuff about how she is the perfect person and you two are destined to be together and that you both want to be together forever. Blah blah blah. We had to send extra documentation and I did this letter and I think that is what put us over the hump.

Others, have had very boring interviews and all went smooth.

Also have to prepared to be asked false questions just to get her reaction or to gauge her answers.

Example, "No that is not true. His Boy Scout Merit badge was for Sailing Knots, not Nooses!"
