A worthwhile tour of good hope great house.
Good Hope is one of the most stunning great house tours in Jamaica. It is probably one of the best tours for visitors to the island to see what a real plantation layout may have looked like during the height of its productivity (without the buzzing slave population of course!). Staying in Montego Bay ? No problem! The property is only 50 minutes from Montego Bay . It sits atop a slight elevation that offers sweeping views of the surrounding Queen of Spain Valley and beyond to where the undulating Cockpit Mountains rise stretch out in the distance. Yes, a tour of Good Hope Great House is well worth your time. A regal 18th-century monument The 2,000-acre estate, which is located about 8 miles from Falmouth , the capital of the parish of Trelawny, has remained unmarred by encroaching development. Good Hope is almost the same as it would have been when Colonel Thomas Williams built it in 1755 for his wife, Elizabeth. John Tharp, was the next owner who expanded the property and, as one of the more benevolent plantation owners, he provided a church, a 300-bed hospital, and even a school to teach his slaves to read and write. The property was one of the few that didn’t flounder after abolition and was one of the largest on the island.
Chukka Caribbean operates the tour and also offers ziplining, river tubing, horse and dune buggy rides, and more relaxing activities like high tea, and the new fun-filled Jungle Adventureland attraction. There is practically something to do for all ages and is a great choice for a family fun day. Good Hope Estate Tour with Chukka

Service Description
PAY ENTRANCE FEE WHEN YOU GET TO THE WEED FARM COST IS ($30) PER PERSON. When we think of Jamaica, ‘ganja’ is typically one of the fastest associations we make with the country. Thanks to the Rastafarian community, which was popularized by Bob Marley and reggae music, marijuana use has become a symbol of the country. Rastafarians use marijuana as a spiritual drug, and the smoking of marijuana is a part of their religious ceremonies. However, despite marijuana’s ubiquity in the country’s perception, marijuana is not fully legal in Jamaica and until recently, it was not decriminalized. In mid-2015, the country passed a drug law amendment that decriminalizes small amounts of marijuana for personal use. Under the new law, possession of up to 2 ounces (or 56 grams) of marijuana is a petty offence punishable by a maximum fine of about $5. The law also allows the cultivation of up to five marijuana plants per household. Rastafari adults are also now permitted to use marijuana for sacramental purposes for the first time. Jamaica is the first country to specify that marijuana use related to religion is legal. These law changes are hopefully the first steps to full marijuana legalization in Jamaica. One of the biggest changes in the law is that medical marijuana is now legal, and Jamaica hopes to establish a presence in the globally emerging medical marijuana market. Under the act, possession of marijuana for medical or therapeutic purposes is allowed. “Therapeutic” is a flexible term that many Jamaicans hope will allow tourists to partake in cannabis consumption. A cannabis licensing authority will regulate the cultivation and distribution of marijuana. Many Jamaicans are excited about the prospect of pot tourism. Under the law, visitors who are ill or have a medical marijuana prescription from their home country will be able to purchase a permit at the airport for a few dollars that will allow them to consume marijuana. Patients who have a medical marijuana prescription will have to show a prescription from their doctor. Another popular tourism activity in Jamaica is taking a tour of an outdoor marijuana farm. This activity comes highly recommended and many companies can coordinate these tours for you – you’ve never seen anything like it! Make sure to smoke all your herb or gift it to a fellow tourist before you leave the country – it is still illegal and considered drug trafficking to leave the country with marijuana.

- Rose Hall Great House
Great House Tours
In 1820, John Palmer married a gorgeous brunette named Annie. Annie was a petite woman about 4′ 11″ tall, who moved to the beautiful island of Jamaica and became known as the infamous White Witch of Rose Hall.
Once settled in, Annie murdered all three of her husbands along with a number of her slave lovers. But her black magic didn’t protect her from meeting her own death in 1831, when she was murdered by her slaves, who then set the Great House on fire.
The Great House named for its 365 windows, 52 doors and 12 bedrooms, presides on 6,600-acre of the Rose Hall estates, just outside Montego Bay. The two story colonial house is complete with antique furniture, bulletwood beams, and a coral stone dungeon where the Annie would torture her slaves. Climb the creaking mahogany stairs to the upper level to see the bedrooms where all the loving and killing took place.
Legend says that Annie, still haunts the Rose Hall Great House. Their are those even today who claim to have seen her passing through the upstairs rooms of the House. Rose hall Great House was later restored to its original 18th Century grandeur – now a national monument in Jamaica.

The unique visitor experience moves through all areas of our charming Estate.
Guests are invited to enjoy our comfortable Welcome Centre, the perfect location to relax before starting the tour, and perhaps sample a delicious Appleton Estate cocktail at the bar.
