Beyoncé returned to the stage for first time in four years in January

Last month, Beyoncé made her return to the stage and performed at the opening of the Atlantis The Royal hotel in Dubai. Despite the luxury experience, the singer left fans wanting more, as she did not perform any songs from "Renaissance," The Hollywood Reporter reported.

The invitation-only event marked her first concert in more than four years. She last performed at the  Global Citizen Festival: Mandela 100 event in 2018.

Beyoncé dominates Grammy nominations

The singer's tour announcement comes days ahead of the Grammys where Beyoncé leads the 2023 lineup with nine nominations, including best dance/electronic album ("Renaissance"), best R&B performance ("Virgo’s Groove") and best traditional R&B performance ("Plastic Off the Sofa").

With 28 wins and 88 total career nominations, Beyoncé now ties her husband, rapper Jay-Z , for the most nominations in Grammy history. If Beyoncé picks up four or more awards this year, she will surpass the late Georg Solti for the most Grammy wins of all time. (The Hungarian-born conductor holds the record with 31.)

Beyoncé called out by Monica Lewinsky: over 'Partition' lyric after ableism controversy

Beyoncé and Jay-Z have got "to be the most intense power couple in the history of music," Recording Academy president Harvey Mason Jr. Mason said after the nominations were revealed. "That’s music and Grammy royalty – that’s the royal family."

Their combined 176 nominations are "absolutely a testament to their talent, to their level of excellence, to their work ethic, to their level of greatness over a long period of time. I don’t even know what the next (leading) couple would be, but it’s not anywhere close.”

Beyoncé's 'Break My Soul.' Taylor Swift's 'Anti-Hero.'  These are the 10 best songs of 2022, ranked.

Beyoncé noticeably was not nominated in any of the music video categories for the Grammys, having not released any album visuals for "Renaissance" since its debut.

Beyoncé Announces Renaissance World Tour

By Evan Minsker and Allison Hussey

Beyonc

Beyoncé has announced that she’s touring in support of her latest album, Renaissance . The tour begins with a European leg in May, followed by dates in Canada and the United States that extend from from early July through late September. It’s her first tour since her 2018 co-headlining On the Run II Tour with Jay-Z behind their collaborative album, Everything Is Love , and her first headlining tour since 2016’s Formation World Tour behind Lemonade . The Renaissance World Tour is produced by Parkwood Entertainment and promoted by Live Nation. See all of the dates below.

Renaissance arrived July 29, rising swiftly to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and marking Beyoncé’s seventh album to summit the albums chart. It is the first act in what will be a three-part series, she has indicated.

Beyoncé hinted at her world tour in late October, during the fifth annual Wearable Art Gala, where the raffle included “ a UNIQUE experience ” to see her on the Renaissance tour. Purported images from the auction featured descriptions of the summer 2023 trek. Valued at $20,000, the package included first-class plane tickets, a three-night hotel stay, two concert tickets, and a guided backstage tour from Beyoncé’s mother, Tina Knowles aka Miss Tina. Beyoncé was reportedly in attendance at the gala. In January, she performed at the opening of a new luxury resort in Dubai, but did not play any Renaissance material at the private concert . It was her first live performance since 2020.

Since sharing Renaissance , Beyoncé has made a few adjustments to the album; she replaced ableist lyrics in “ Heated ,” and removed an interpolation of Kelis ’ “Milkshake” on “Energy” after Kelis said she was not informed by Beyoncé and her team that her music was going to be used on the new album. Beyoncé also dropped Honey Dijon and Madonna remixes of “ Break My Soul .”

In 2019, Beyoncé released Homecoming: The Live Album . The next year, she shared Black Is King , a visual album based on her 2019 soundtrack for The Lion King: The Gift . (Beyoncé voiced adult Nala in the CGI remake film.) On Juneteenth of that year, she surprise-released “ Black Parade ,” which would go on to win the Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance . At the same ceremony, she also won Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Song (for her feature on the remix of Megan Thee Stallion ’s “ Savage ”), as well as Best Music Video (for The Gift ’s “ Brown Skin Girl ”). “ Be Alive ”—her contribution to the King Richard soundtrack—was nominated for an Oscar at last year’s ceremony.

Beyoncé is nominated for nine honors at the 2023 Grammy Awards : Record of the Year , Song of the Year , and Best Dance/Electronic Recording for “Break My Soul”; Album of the Year and Best Dance/Electronic Music Album for Renaissance ; Best R&B Performance for “Virgo’s Groove”; Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Plastic Off the Sofa”; Best R&B Song for “Cuff It”; and Best Song Written for Visual Media for “Be Alive.”

Beyoncé finally announces 40-stop Renaissance world tour

The artist confirmed the news via instagram wednesday morning before sharing a full list of dates on her website.

Beyoncé

It appears Joe Biden’s Wednesday announcement that Congress will begin limiting egregious concert ticket fees comes not a moment too soon: this morning, Beyoncé also finally announced a 47-date world tour supporting her Grammy-nominated album, Renaissance . Hear that tapping? It’s the sound of stuffed Ticketmaster queues everywhere being refreshed over and over and over.

Beyoncé confirmed the news on Wednesday morning via her Instagram , where she shared a tour announcement alongside another glittery portrait from her Renaissance album cover photoshoot. Kicking off in Stockholm, Sweden on May 10, the tour’s European leg includes two dates in London—a North American leg kicks off with two dates in Toronto, Ontario on July 8 and 9, respectively.

Swirling excitement for the Renaissance live experience has been at a high for almost six months now, since the July 29, 2022 release of the album drew profound acclaim from critics and fans alike (it was The A.V. Club ’s No. 1 album of the year ). By the time she heads out on tour, it’s more than likely Beyoncé will also have a few more Grammy nods under her belt— Renaissance saw the artist nominated nine times, bringing her cumulative total nominations to an astounding 88.

The Renaissance has begun. Beyoncé has stayed incredibly quiet since releasing her critically lauded seventh studio album last summer and now, devout members of the Beyhive are finally able to witness songs such as “Break My Soul,” “Cuff It,” and “Virgo’s Groove” live. Bey opened her first show in a custom shimmering, metallic suit courtesy of Alexander McQueen while she thanked everyone in the crowd who traveled from all over the world to be with her for the tour’s opening night. “You could have been anywhere in the world tonight, but you choose to be here with me,” she said to the crowd after taking the stage. It’s safe to say fans across the world will continue to show up for Queen Bey as the tour progresses from now until the fall. Ahead, see all of the photos from the ongoing Renaissance World Tour.

Beyoncé Rolls Into Her Country Era, and 10 More New Songs

Hear tracks by Vampire Weekend, Pearl Jam, Saya Gray and others.

A woman with long blond hair, wearing a pale cowboy hat and a black-and-white checkered outfit, smiles lightly.

By Jon Pareles and Lindsay Zoladz

Every Friday, pop critics for The New York Times weigh in on the week’s most notable new tracks. Listen to the Playlist on Spotify here (or find our profile: nytimes), and sign up for The Amplifier , a twice-weekly guide to new and old songs.

Beyoncé, ‘ 16 Carriages ’

In a flex of genre-spanning musicianship that’s also a workaholic’s lament, Beyoncé announces her next realm to conquer — country, one of her birthrights as a Texan — while she recalls her past and doubles down on her ambition, singing, “Ain’t got time to waste, I got art to make.” The music is an arena-country crescendo, from acoustic-guitar strum to full-band impact topped by pedal-steel guitar, along with gospel-organ underpinnings and country quavers in Beyoncé’s vocal lines. At a moment when country music is being pushed to acknowledge Black roots and current Black musicians, Beyoncé is not only claiming an expanded demographic base. She’s also using her celebrity clout to force some doors open. JON PARELES

Vampire Weekend, ‘ Capricorn ’

Vampire Weekend channels a generation’s exhaustion, disillusionment and overload in “Capricorn,” a stubbornly slow ballad about being “too old for dying young” and “sifting through centuries for moments of your own” from “Only God Was Above Us,” a new album due April 5. The music layers stately chamber-pop with heaving, squealing noise, then eases toward folky resignation. PARELES

Waxahatchee, ‘ Bored ’

“Right Back to It,” the first single from Waxahatchee’s upcoming album, “Tiger’s Blood,” was a laid-back, mid-tempo tune that showed Katie Crutchfield’s casual mastery of a certain kind of twangy folk. The second single, “Bored,” is something else entirely: a fiery and biting country-rock foot-stomper that allows Crutchfield to channel some serious had-it-up-to-here attitude. “My benevolence just hits the floor,” she sings with a sneer. “I get bored.” LINDSAY ZOLADZ

Pearl Jam, ‘ Dark Matter ’

Pearl Jam blasts back into action with “Dark Matter,” the title track from a coming album that kicks off a tour. Drums slam, guitars align in bruising riffs; Eddie Vedder howls about demagogues who pit “Your word against the law” and rails about how “Everybody else pays for someone else’s mistakes.” The dark matter is disinformation and amorality: ethics, not astrophysics. PARELES

serpentwithfeet featuring Orion Sun, ‘ Ellipsis ’

In the best song named after punctuation since Vampire Weekend’s “Oxford Comma,” serpentwithfeet — the songwriter Josiah Wise — and Orion Sun (Tiffany Majette) sing about moving past the inadequacy of words to the purity of kisses: “When words fail, ellipsis, baby come kiss me,” they each sing. It’s a bossa nova with a hip-hop undertow, making vulnerability seductive. PARELES

Caroline Polachek, ‘ Spring Is Coming With a Strawberry in the Mouth ’

On Valentine’s Day, exactly a year after releasing her alt-pop opus “Desire, I Want to Turn Into You,” Caroline Polachek put out an expanded “Everasking Edition” of the album with seven additional tracks. Along with a version of the album’s “Butterfly Net” that now features Weyes Blood, a highlight of this deluxe edition is the luminous “Spring Is Coming With a Strawberry in Its Mouth,” a reverent cover of a relatively obscure song by Roger Doyle’s Irish synth-pop band Operating Theatre. Polachek recites the song’s spoken-word sections with requisite angst, but the chorus becomes a showcase for her otherworldly falsetto. ZOLADZ

Saya Gray, ‘ AA Bouquet for Your 180 Face ’

The Canadian songwriter and producer Saya Gray counts the days since someone left her in “AA Bouquet for Your 180 Face.” Her voice is wry and a little sleepy as she reconsiders the relationship, singing, “I bent over backwards so many times/I turned into a golden arch for you to walk through.” But her production is alert, hyper-detailed and surreally unpredictable, segueing among ticking electronics, syncopated indie-rock, spacey vocal chorales, distorted guitars and what might be a koto. She may be lonely, but she’s resourceful. PARELES

Dua Lipa, ‘ Training Season ’

Written after she suffered through one too many bad dates (yes, even Dua Lipa goes on bad dates), the spiky, precision-cut “Training Season” seethes with romantic frustration even as it dreams of something better: “Need someone to hold me close, deeper than I’ve ever known.” Presumably the second single from an as-yet-unannounced album, “Training Season” re-teams Lipa with Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker, who also produced her previous teaser, “Houdini.” On both tracks, Parker proves to be an expert architect of intriguingly textured surfaces, but amid such careful design, Lipa’s icy vocals become just another element in the structure, rather than an elevator to the song’s emotional depths. ZOLADZ

DBN Gogo and Atmos Blaq featuring Yumbs, Shazmicsoul, Dr. Thulz Mashudu and Leandra.Vert, ‘ Uthando ’

The South African producer and songwriter DBN Gogo enlisted four additional producers — Atmos Blaq plus Yumbs, Shazmicsoul and Dr. Thulz — and two singers, Leandra.Vert and Mashudu, for this song from “Click Bait,” her new album. “Uthando” (“Love”) is an upbeat amampiano track that places a dialogue by the husky-voiced Mashudu and the breathy Leandra.Vert over a richly layered, subtly mutating beat. Amapiano’s sparse bass, electric-piano chords and deep log drums mesh with an ever-changing assortment of percussion and a subtle but insistent synthesizer pulse that hints at hidden tensions. PARELES

Lana Del Rey, ‘ Blue Skies ’

Leave it to Lana del Rey and the producer Jack Antonoff to turn Irving Berlin’s proclamation of pure optimism — “nothing but blue skies from now on” — into something nervously foreboding. Switching it into a minor key is just the beginning. The tempo is perky, but Del Rey sings as if she’s glancing over her shoulder at something she wishes she could ward off. Soon Antonoff dissolves her voice into echoes and fragmentary, wordless phrases. The mix at the end is literally whistling in the dark. PARELES

Sasha Alex Sloan, ‘ Highlights ’

Very quietly and plainly, Sasha Alex Sloan — whose first EP, in 2018, was titled “Sad Girl” — indicts a neglected, possibly abusive upbringing in “Highlights.” Over austere guitar picking, she sings, “I’m not angry any more for what you did/But who does that to a kid?” and adds, “You love me when it’s easy/You love me when it looks good to your friends.” There’s a survivor’s determination behind her composure. ‘I can guarantee Beyoncé has never stepped foot in here’: Houston’s country saloons review Texas Hold ’Em

Beyoncé’s record-breaking hoedown Texas Hold ‘Em has prompted debate about belonging in country music. Patrons in her Texan hometown have their say on the song

T he Shady Acres saloon is a hole-in-the-wall country dive bar about eight miles north-west of Beyoncé’s childhood home in Houston , Texas. On a Wednesday evening, a few pickup trucks are parked out front. Inside there is a wooden bar with dollar bills stapled to the ceiling. Texas beers such as Shiner Bock and Lone Star are on tap and a jukebox near the pool table plays Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and Jeannie C Riley’s Harper Valley PTA. Beyoncé’s new song, the cheeky hoedown Texas Hold ’Em – which recently made her the first Black woman to top Billboard’s country music chart and is currently in its second week at UK No 1 – isn’t on the playlist.

Beyoncé has never been shy about voicing her Texas pride, but what some people perceive as her sudden switch to country on her forthcoming album, after the house music history lesson of her 2022 album Renaissance, has prompted debate on her country bona fides. Some country radio stations refused to playlist her new song – though one in Oklahoma had to back down after an online campaign . Some diehard country music lovers are questioning whether her new songs should even be considered country, reactions that overlook the genre’s Black roots – and Beyoncé’s history with the genre, from the song Daddy Lessons, from her 2016 album Lemonade, to the stetsons worn by Destiny’s Child. Last month, her mother, Tina Knowles, stepped in to shed light on the family’s history with rodeo culture, and Dolly Parton congratulated Beyoncé on her success and heralded her excitement about the forthcoming record.

Shady Acres saloon.

The patrons at Shady Acres have mixed feelings. “Look at this place we’re at,” says Cliff Boatwright, 55. He’s wearing jeans and a camouflage print baseball cap, sipping beers with a friend who asks to be known as Jim, 47. “I guarantee you Beyoncé has never stepped foot in here.”

That’s probably true, since Beyoncé can’t waltz into a dive bar without a gaggle of bodyguards. The real question, though, isn’t whether Beyoncé goes to country bars. It’s whether her new songs will be embraced by the people who frequent them, people who like to see Willie and Waylon on a jukebox, and not necessarily a superstar who rocketed out of Houston on a wave of fame that started with R&B and pop hits such as Say My Name. Boatwright and Jim have both heard Texas Hold ’Em. They agree that Beyoncé has the right to make any type of music she wants to create. That doesn’t mean they think the song is country.

“She can do what she wants as an artist,” says Boatwright. “If you don’t explore different things you become stagnant, but at the same time it’s just not country to me.” Country isn’t just about a certain twang to the guitar, he says, or throwing on a cowboy hat and saddling up a horse, especially if it’s Beyoncé’s hologram horse. It’s about storytelling, telling tales about the working class, writing music that “speaks to the soul”. Beyoncé’s success has catapulted her far away from everyday people just trying to get by, says Jim.

“It doesn’t matter that you came from Texas. It matters if you’re actually living a country lifestyle. It bothers me that her song is being called country.”

Beyoncé may be the first Black woman to top the country music charts, but she’s not the first Black country singer to have a hit. In 1981, the year Beyoncé was born, Charley Pride had a song at the top of the Hot Country Songs chart called Never Been So Loved (In All My Life), alongside Merle Haggard, Dolly Parton and Hank Williams Jr. Linda Martell was the first Black woman to break into country and the first to play on the Grand Ole Opry stage. Texas-born Mickey Guyton is breaking barriers in country, and Hootie and the Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker successfully made the switch to country. So why all the fuss over whether she is or isn’t real country?

At Shady Acres, Colin Goodnight, 42, a musician from Houston, is all for Beyoncé’s new sound. “I love the fact that she’s branching out,” he says. Bryant Bell, a Beyoncé fan, doesn’t love the new song, but that doesn’t mean he thinks it’s not country. His friend Melissa Higginson hasn’t heard it yet but says she’s going to listen. “She’s got a beautiful voice,” she says. “Good for her for trying to break a boundary.”

The Armadillo Palace.

Later on at Bandits Dancehall, which is about two miles from Beyoncé’s childhood home, about 20 boot-clad people are taking a two-step lesson on the dancefloor. Bartenders Payton and Darian say they haven’t heard the song played at Bandits yet, though Payton knows it from TikTok. The Armadillo Palace is a sprawling restaurant and dance hall that has engraved plaques bearing names of Texas-born musicians including Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson and Lightnin’ Hopkins embedded into the floor. Graphic designer Risa Marie, 37, loves Texas Hold ’Em, she shouts over the music playing from the speakers. “I listen to it on repeat. She’s a talented musician. As an artist there are different styles I can draw in. Why shouldn’t she be able to do the same with music?”

after newsletter promotion

The obvious answer seems to be: because she’s Beyoncé. While she appears untouchable in some ways, in others, anything she tries will get picked apart and criticised. Weldon Henson, a country musician living outside Austin, listened to the new song to see what all the fuss was about. “This is a free-market society and people can do whatever they want, but everything is so mixed together now, it’s almost impossible to label country at all any more,” he says.

He doesn’t think Beyoncé needs country icons like Dolly Parton coming to her defence, since millions of people will buy her music regardless of its country bona fides. While he says he respects her as a musician, that doesn’t mean he has to consider her the real deal. “Country music is storytelling and talking about the common man,” says Henson. “She’s a pop icon, but that song is 100% not country.”

Henson is right about genres bleeding into one another, unlike in the more rigidly circumscribed days of Linda Martell and Hank Williams: Lil Nas X’s 2018 viral smash Old Town Road riled country purists with its mashup of rap and country, and was excluded from the Billboard country chart, yet the contemporary country considered “traditional”, namely by white, usually male artists such as Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton and Sam Hunt, is unarguably influenced by rap.

Back at Shady Acres, Boatwright finished his speech about what “real” country music is by bringing it back to Beyoncé. “Good for her for exploring,” he said. “Maybe I’m just living in the past.”

One week after Beyoncé’s new single “Texas Hold ‘Em” debuted on the Billboard charts, it’s become an even bigger hit. That’s not commonly seen for a tune that launches so close to the summit, as most exciting new arrivals begin slipping down the rankings in short order. The former Destiny’s Child star has bucked that trend, and earned a special new No. 1 in the process.

“Texas Hold ‘Em” rises to No. 1 on the Streaming Songs chart this time around after debuting at No. 4. Billboard publishes the list each week to show which tunes Americans are streaming the most on platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, and several other popular options. The single hits the summit for the first time in its second frame on the tally.

As “Texas Hold ‘Em” climbs to No. 1, Beyoncé earns her fourth career leader on the Streaming Songs chart. With one more champion to her credit, the globe-dominating pop (and now country) superstar matches with several other beloved musicians for a spot of history.

Beyoncé is now on the same level as four other musicians for the sixth-most No. 1 hits on the Streaming Songs chart, including one rapper with whom she shares a leader. Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Lil Baby, and Miley Cyrus have all ruled the ranking four times as well.

Among all artists, Drake is in a very distant first place on the list of the artists with the most No. 1 smashes on the Streaming Songs chart. He has thus far accrued 20 rulers, and he still stands as the only person to snag double-digit champions.

Taylor Swift sits in second place, with eight No. 1s on the Streaming Songs chart. She’s followed closely by Justin Bieber, who has sent half a dozen tracks to the summit. Ariana Grande and Travis Scott are tied for fourth place, with five winners each.

In addition to “Texas Hold ‘Em,” Beyoncé has now conquered the Streaming Songs chart with all of the following singles: “Drunk With Love” with Jay-Z, “Perfect” with Ed Sheeran, and most recently, “Savage” with Stallion. She has sent a dozen tracks into the top 10, including this latest blockbuster.

Sound, Women in Music, Maggie Rogers, Shakira, Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, Kacey Musgraves, Taylor Swift

Spring isn’t necessarily known as a big time for new album releases — but it will be in 2024.

After women took home all of the Big Four Grammy Awards in February (Taylor Swift won album of the year, a record-breaking fourth win, for Midnights ; Billie Eilish won song of the year with the Barbie soundtrack song “What Was I Made For?”; Miley Cyrus won record of the year with her Billboard Hot 100 topper “Flowers”; and Victoria Monét won best new artist), they will continue to dominate the release calendar in March and beyond.

Across a six-week span, a coterie of music’s A-listers will deliver new — and highly anticipated — albums. Starting with Ariana Grande’s Eternal Sunshine and on through to Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department , the flurry will keep listeners busy. And with impending releases from Dua Lipa, Normani and Billie Eilish — and potentially SZA’s Lana, a deluxe version of her Billboard 200-topping SOS album — still on the way, this succession is showing no sign of slowing down.

Surely, so much new music from major stars signals a packed touring season ahead. And though Grande told The Zach Sang Show in a recent interview she is “unsure” about hitting the road to support Eternal Sunshine , she will make a grand return to Saturday Night Live as the show’s musical guest on March 9. Meanwhile, Swift’s monumental The Eras Tour is set to continue through this December.

Below, Billboard breaks down the confirmed upcoming albums that will help us ease into the warmer months ahead.

Ariana Grande, Eternal Sunshine (March 8)

Grande’s seventh full-length will arrive more than three years after 2020’s Positions — her longest span between albums. Positions followed her definitive one-two punch of Sweetener and Thank U, Next , both of which she supported on her Sweetener world tour, her biggest trek to date that grossed $146 million and sold 1.3 million tickets, according to Billboard Boxscore. Sweetener and Thank U, Next soundtracked a highly public time in Grande’s life; she was coping with the death of ex-boyfriend Mac Miller and newly engaged to Pete Davidson, which they ended after a few months. Eternal Sunshine puts her back in the familiar territory of fending off the opinions of fans and haters alike. Lead single “Yes, And?,” which debuted atop the Billboard Hot 100, dives right into the headlines with lyrics like “Don’t comment on my body, do not reply” and “Why do you care so much whose — I ride?” Following Eternal Sunshine , Grande will return her attention to the movie Wicked , with part one set for a November release.

Kacey Musgraves, Deeper Well (March 15)

Though Musgraves debuted in 2013 as a country artist, her acclaimed third album, 2018’s Golden Hour, cemented her status as a certified pop star and won the album of the year Grammy. Its follow-up, the airy breakup treatise Star-Crossed , debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 (one spot higher than Golden Hour ) but didn’t achieve the same level of critical acclaim. With Deeper Well , Musgraves returns to the stripped-down singer-songwriter model that worked so well before. The title-track lead single arrived after country and folk collaborations with Zach Bryan (the Grammy-winning Hot 100 chart-topper “I Remember Everything”) and Noah Kahan (“She Calls Me Back”) and falls right in line: Musgraves sings of people with “dark energy” who waste her time and chronicles her Saturn return, declaring, “I’ve gotten older, now I know/How to take care of myself/I’ve found a deeper well.”

Shakira, Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran (March 22)

Shakira’s forthcoming album will end a seven-year lapse for the superstar, who last released an album in 2017 — El Dorado , which spent five weeks at No. 1 on the Top Latin Albums chart. The new album’s title nods to the fiery lyrics from her Bizarrap session last year, in which she declared: “Las mujeres ya no llora, las mujeres facturan,” which loosely translates to, “Women don’t cry anymore, they make money.” The session, “Shakira: Bzrp Music Sessions, Vol. 53,” was one of two Hot 100 top 10 hits for Shakira in 2023, alongside “TQG” with Karol G. As she told Billboard in her September cover story: “Now I can release music at a faster clip, although sometimes I think being a single mom and the rhythm of a pop star aren’t compatible … It’s constant juggling because I like to be a present mom … and aside from that, I have to make money.”

Beyoncé, Act II (March 29)

One of the biggest winners on Super Bowl Sunday wasn’t a football team. In a Verizon commercial that aired during the game, Beyoncé announced new singles “Texas Hold ’Em” and “16 Carriages,” along with the forthcoming release of Act II , the second of three parts to her Renaissance album series. The seemingly country-inspired project is off to a strong start as “Texas” scored Beyoncé her first Hot Country Songs hit, debuting at No. 1, while “16 Carriages” entered at No. 9. 2022’s Renaissance scored Queen Bey her fourth album of the year Grammy nomination and seventh Billboard 200 chart-topper. (All seven of her solo albums have entered at No. 1.) Meanwhile, her Renaissance world tour was 2023’s top-grossing trek, according to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore. The stage is set for Act II to keep breaking records — and, with new sonic direction, breaking boundaries, too.

Maggie Rogers, Don’t Forget Me (April 12)

Rogers co-produced her third album with Grammy-winning producer-songwriter Ian Fitchuk, who also had a hand in Musgraves’ Deeper Well . (Both albums were worked on at New York’s Electric Lady Studios.) Don’t Forget Me ’s contemplative title-track lead single prominently features Rogers’ raw vocals and even more revealing writing. As she chronicles a fling, of whom she pleads, “Don’t forget me,” she contrasts her own reality with those of friends who are heading toward marriage. “To me that sounds so scary,” she confesses. Rogers’ 2019 debut, Heard It in a Past Life , debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 while its follow-up, Surrender , entered just outside the top 10 at No. 12.

Taylor Swift, The Tortured Poets Department (April 19)

At the 2024 Grammys, while accepting the best pop vocal album award for Midnights — her 13th Grammy win, of course — Swift announced that her next album was already on the way. She said she wanted to thank her fans by spilling a secret she had been keeping for two years — and then revealed the title and release date of her forthcoming 11th album. She shared the cover art that night and soon after revealed the tracklist, which includes features from Post Malone and Florence + the Machine. Despite the major reveal, fans are still hungry for yet another anticipated Swift release: Reputation (Taylor’s Version) , the rerecorded take on her 2017 album. There’s no doubt it’s on the way, but that’s one secret Swift isn’t quite ready to share.
