Sharing is caring!

Many families combine a visit to Walt Disney World or Universal Studios with a cruise departing out of Port Canaveral, just an hour away. But it can be tough to decide on the best way to get from MCO to Port Canaveral’s cruise terminal. Today Aimee of Babies & Beaches is sharing the pros and cons of different options for transportation from MCO to Port Canaveral. After reading this article, you should have a great sense for the right option for your cruise from Orlando! Our family recently took a cruise from Port Canaveral shortly and we went for #4 with an overnight stay the night before at this hotel that offers a discounted rate for cruisers!

You’ve booked a cruise out of Port Canaveral and you’re super excited about your upcoming family travel adventure! If you’re flying into Orlando, Florida, you’re going to need to know how to get from the Orlando airport to Port Canaveral.

The cruise terminals are about an hour east of Orlando International Airport. There are a few different ways that you can make the journey from the airport to the port. We’ve got all the details on each of these transportation options below to help you plan your trip.

It’s important to remember that for all of these options (with one exception I’ll note below) your child will need to ride in a car seat. Safety first! Fortunately there are plenty of great lightweight travel car seats for every age .

While you’re in the planning stages, be sure to read these cruise cabin hacks to make your statement more livable!

MCO to Port Canaveral Transportation Option #1: Rent a Car

port canaveral cruise terminal to mco

This is the most popular option for getting to Port Canaveral from MCO. You can fly into Orlando International Airport (MCO), rent a car, and drive from the airport to Port Canaveral. Renting a car has its perks because you can make your own schedule.

Be sure to check price at RentalCars.com , as they buy days in bulk and then offer them at a discount to travelers. I also find great deals often through Expedia car rentals !

If you have several hours between your cruise departure and your flight, you have time to explore these beaches near Orlando while you’re in town.

Another reason to rent a car is to be able to make a grocery stop. Cruises generally allow you to bring bottles of wine or soda that you can’t pack in your airport luggage. Grab these with your rental car on your way to Port Canaveral.

Renting a car in Orlando can also be the easiest option if you’ll be spending a few days visiting Disney World or Universal Studios .

Cutting Costs with Car Rentals

Although renting a car and paying for it to sit for the length of your cruise might get expensive, there are ways to cut the cost.

Parking at Port Canaveral cruise ship port is $17 per day. That can add up on a seven-day cruise. This makes the cost per day a lot higher than some of the other options.

Two ways to cut your cost with a rental car are using an off-site parking lot or getting a one-way rental.

Many parking lots within a few miles of the cruise ship port offer cheaper parking and will shuttle you to your ship. Be sure to check the times of the available shuttles and how often they run. Again, you will be at the mercy of their schedule.

If you decide to do a one-way car rental, you can drop your car off in Port Canaveral and the car rental facility will shuttle you to the cruise ship terminal. While this is a great option for longer cruises, just watch for one-way fees which can add up fast. And remember that you’ll need to arrange a one-way car rental for your return Port Canaveral transportation to MCO as well!

For our shorter four-day cruise, it was cheaper to do a round trip rental and pay for parking than to do two one-way rentals. If you just plan to pick up your rental car at the airport and use it exclusively to get to and from Port Canaveral, be sure to check the rates at RentalCars.com – they buy days in bulk from suppliers and pass the savings on to customers.

If you plan to combine a cruise with theme parks, check out the combined pricing for tickets and rental car at Undercover Tourist . You can save hundreds of dollars on the rental car by bundling them, even if the dates don’t match up with your theme park days!

MCO to Port Canaveral Transportation Option #2: Park and Cruise in Port Canaveral

port canaveral cruise terminal to mco

If you’re looking for a hassle-free way to get to the port, you may want to consider staying at a “park and cruise” hotel.

These hotels offer complimentary or discounted parking while you’re on your cruise. They also provide transportation to and from the airport as well as the cruise terminal.

This gives you extra time to explore the area.  Stay in Orlando for the day – maybe you are considering a visit to Disney World – before checking into your hotel the night before departure. Or go straight to Port Canaveral and spend the day at the nearby Kennedy Space Center on Cape Canaveral!

The first day is the most fun day of a cruise as everyone is excited and ready to start their vacation. It pays to be rested and not dragging around from traveling all morning.

Yes, you will pay for another night in a hotel, but generally the flights and transportation are cheaper when you book a “park and cruise” package.

Some of the most popular park and cruise hotels near Port Canaveral include the brand new Springhill Suites by Marriott , Radisson Resort at the Port , the Country Inn & Suites by Radisson , and the Residence Inn by Marriott Cape Canaveral Cocoa Beach .

MCO to Port Canaveral Transportation Option #3: Port Canaveral Shuttle Service or Coach Bus

port canaveral cruise terminal to mco

If you don’t want to rent a car or stay at a park and cruise hotel, you can book a shuttle to take you from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to Port Canaveral. This is a great option for small groups as tickets are charged per person.

Several shuttle services are running from Orlando-area airports to the Port Canaveral cruise ship terminal. The best part of these is that they usually offer affordable prices – with some trade offs.

The best shuttle from MCO to Port Canaveral is the one provided by your cruise line, if they offer that service. The nice thing about going Orlando cruise line transportation is that since they know you are coming, they won’t leave cruise passengers behind.

Disney Cruise Line runs a large coach bus (seen above) between the airport and cruise port. This is the only option that doesn’t require a car seat. From a safety perspective it probably should since the bus is traveling on highways, but Disney says that their buses don’t support car seat installation and that car seats will be stowed with your luggage.

The downside to an MCO to Port Canaveral shuttle is that they have their own schedules. If your flight comes in much earlier than the scheduled shuttle, you will be waiting around for some time.  This could be an issue if you have small children and minimal patience!

On the other hand, if your flight is delayed you could miss your shuttle altogether. Likewise if your cruise returns to port late, a shared shuttle may not wait for you and you may wind up in a pickle trying to get back to Orlando International Airport irport for your flight. Be sure to check their policies on this and have a backup plan.

Shuttles might also make other stops at airports or area hotels to pick up more guests or wait until they have a full bus to leave. Again, you are on their schedule, so be prepared for anything. An MCO shuttle to Port Canaveral might not be the best option if you have very young children.

MCO to Port Canaveral Transportation Option #4: Taxi or Uber/Lyft

port canaveral cruise terminal to mco

Another option for getting from Orlando International Airport (MCO) to Port Canaveral is to take a taxi or rideshare service like Uber or Lyft directly to the cruise terminal.

The best part of these services is they are already there and great for the last minute. They don’t need to be planned in advance, so if you didn’t know you needed to make a 45-minute drive to Port Canaveral you aren’t completely out of options.

Also, if your “Plan A” failed due to a late flight or other issues, taxis are always there to get you to Port Canaveral!

The downside is that they get expensive – fast!  Due to the distance and time it takes to get to the cruise ship port, the bill adds up. Taxis are going to be the most expensive option for getting from MCO to Port Canaveral.  A one-way Port Canaveral taxi rate is about $120-$130. Uber and Lyft are a little cheaper, with an UberX ride costing around $75+ and a Lyft ride costing around $65+ depending on whether or not “surge pricing” is in place.

If you’re traveling with kids, you’ll want to make sure that you have a car seat plan for your Uber from MCO to Port Canaveral. Find out more about Uber and car seats , including what to expect in Orlando.

MCO to Port Canaveral Transportation Option #5: Orlando Airport Limo Services and Private Cars

port canaveral cruise terminal to mco

If you want to feel like a celebrity for the day, then book a limousine from Orlando to Port Canaveral ! This is a great option for larger groups, as most limos can accommodate up to eight people. If your group is smaller, consider a private sedan.

A limo service may seem like an expensive option, but there are several perks. Most of the time, these drivers will meet you inside the airport and offer luggage assistance. Even if you’re starting off with a few days at a theme park, it’s easy to use this type of private transportation from Orlando to Port Canaveral because they’ll pick you up wherever you are.

It feels first class if that’s the vibe you’re going for on this vacation! Drivers are usually more than happy to make a quick grocery store stop for you as well.

The price may be slightly higher, but definitely reasonable – for larger families, it can be about the same price as a shared shuttle from the Orlando airport but with far more flexibility. Call around to several companies, ask questions and read reviews.

It’s nice to have a personal driver that you will be able to call on your return trip as well.  Just be sure to book your limo in advance, as they can fill up quickly during peak travel times.

This private transportation from MCO to Port Canaveral starts at $166 for up to 6 people in a luxury SUV. Another great option is Welcome Pickups , which is a well-regarded international company offering cars for up to 4 passengers.

MCO to Port Canaveral Transportation Options

There are so many ways to get to Port Canaveral to get on your cruise ship!  It really depends on your family and what your travel plans are. Think carefully about your needs as you consider the options:

  • Are you traveling with kids or a large group?
  • Do you need to make stops after leaving the Orlando airport?
  • How close is your flight time to cruise ship departure time?

No matter what, cruising is a great way to travel, vacation, and enjoy time with family.  Which way do you prefer to get to the Port Canaveral cruise terminals?

Thanks for sharing your research and all the info. I could not find any shuttle service that would service our flight time (arrival at 11 pm), either to a hotel at the airport or a hotel in Port Canaveral. We ended up renting one way rental at the airport, staying in Port Canaveral 2 nights and turning it in to rental car company at Port Canaveral. On our 1st leg, we rented with Enterprise at MCO, and turn in was so easy with a 5-10 minute ride to the ship. While our return was a slog…..No signage at MSC terminal for rental car company pick ups, only a message on AVIS phone so could not get specifics and almost an hour wait for a van with space enough for us. We had to stand in line and wait for 3 vans to fill up and go before our turn. Off the ship early(8;20 am), it was around 10:30 before we were “in” the rental car leaving the rental center. Meanwhile, I saw the Enterprise vehicle about every 10 minutes loading up and leaving. (Enterprise, National shared a building/van system). Now I know for “next time”. We turned our rental in the night before our flight out of MCO, as we had an early flight, and La Quinta at the airport was great about picking us up and returning to the hotel, and getting us to the airport bright and early. I saw you had Radisson at the Port listed. That is where we stayed, and it was highly disappointing. There was construction all around the property. The lobby areas in the furthest buildings (we were in bldg 600) was absolutely FILTHY. The room was clean, but was not the king room I reserved. Lots of lovely NEW hotels all around. This certainly didn’t live up to Raddison standards.

Thanks for your valuable feedback on getting from the Orlando airport to Port Canaveral and renting a car in Port Canaveral!

Safe travels,

One of the main challenges of Miami parking is the scarcity of available spaces, particularly in popular areas like South Beach, Downtown Miami, Wynwood, and Coconut Grove. During peak tourist seasons or special events, finding a parking spot can become a daunting task, often leading to frustration and wasted time for both residents and visitors

Cruise parking is often overlooked but crucial. Thanks for simplifying the process and highlighting cost-effective options for a stress-free experience!”

Very good information, Thanks!

Transportation to the Terminal: If Pack On Cruise Parking provides shuttle services to the cruise terminal, provide details on the frequency, reliability, and convenience of these transportation options.

“Make sure to keep your parking ticket in a safe place, as you’ll need it for the exit process. Taking a quick photo of it with your phone is a simple way to avoid any mishaps.”

That’s a great tip!

Cocoa Beach Shuttle

Cocoa Beach Shuttle is one of a few companies that offers 24-hour shuttle service. Late-night trips will cost more than standard rates, so you will need to call them to book your late-night reservation.

If you book your shuttle online, choose the round trip option and put in promo code roundtripdiscount to get a 20% discount on your cost.

Cocoa Beach Shuttle also offers options for large groups or private vehicles at really affordable prices (for instance, a 10 passenger van will cost $145). For more information visit their website below.

If you plan to stay in one of the Cocoa Beach Area Hotels, shuttle service from the hotel to the cruise port is only $6 per person.

Disney Cruise Line Transfer

If you and your family are going on a Disney cruise, Disney Cruise Line offers a transport bus from the airport directly to the Disney terminal at Port Canaveral. There’s a special pickup location at the airport called Disney’s Magical Express. I have personally used this option when taking a Disney cruise.

Service begins around 9 AM, but the first shuttle leaves the airport at approximately 9:30 AM. Make sure that your flight gets in before 1:30 PM, as the shuttle won’t be available after that time.

On the way to the port, the bus will play a informational video getting you pumped up for your cruise.

Reservations must be booked online at least 3 days before your cruise via your Disney Cruise check-in.

If you’re staying at a Walt Disney World Resort, you’ll be picked up by DCL Transfer there instead. Your hotel room at the resort will have a letter with instructions regarding luggage and pickup. Just follow those instructions on cruise day so you don’t miss your shuttle.

  • Price: $39 one-way, $78 round-trip (per person)
  • Website: https://disneycruise.disney.go.com
  • Phone number: 800-951-3532

Cruise Control Transportation

As many shuttle services in the Orlando area, Cruise Control Transportation is family owned and operated, and friendly and dependable service to their passengers. While on your hour-long drive from the airport to Port Canaveral, you can enjoy free Wi-Fi and cell phone chargers. All vehicles are 2016 or newer.

Passengers with little children need not worry as Cruise Control will provide a free car seat for the little one (while other companies charge extra or make you bring your own). They will also keep track of your flight so they know exactly when to pick you up and will even send you a text message when they’re on the way to get you.

With a 100% money back guarantee, taking a chance on Cruise Control should be an easy choice.

You can also book a round trip ticket with them, so you never need to worry about having transportation when you need it.

  • Price: Approximately $81 for economy one-way transportation directly to the Port of Canaveral. Price doesn’t include taxes and tolls.

The Black Car Service

In business since 1999, The Black Car Service strives to offer limo services to incoming Orlando travelers that is both affordable, safe, and pleasurable. Their website even includes a flight tracking feature so you can always know the status of your flight’s arrival and departure.

Additionally, if there are any delays regarding your flight, simply contact Black Car Service and they will adjust your pickup time accordingly.

When booking your transportation, you get to choose the type of vehicle depending on budget and how many people are travelling with you. They also offer a free 20 minute grocery store stop, provided you book a round trip.

However, we didn’t see a way to book a round trip service online, so we recommend calling them if that’s what you need.

  • Price: Starts approximately at $95 for one way.

Orlando Tours & Transportation

They offer VIP service for you and your family that will take you from MCO to Port Canaveral and pick you up after your cruise and take you back to Orlando for your flight home.

SuperShuttle

This is another great way to get transportation to and from the cruise port when you fly into Orlando. They offer your choice of travel: shared ride shuttle, non-stop shuttle (literally means no stops between the airport and your destination), and black car services (provided through ExecuCar).

You can choose one-way travel, but they recommend that you opt for round trip as it’ll save you money. Also keep in mind that a shared ride, though cheaper, is only going to be available if other people have booked transportation for the same route for around the same timeframe.

One of the things we like most about SuperShuttle is the mobile app, which makes it super easy to manage your account and any trips you have booked.

You can also get airline rewards every time you book shuttle service through them. You just choose your preferred program: American Airlines AAdvantage, Delta SkyMiles, Frontier EarlyReturns, Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards, or United MileagePlus. It’s as easy as connecting your SuperShuttle account with your airline rewards number.

  • Price: Approximately $118.85 round trip (Premium Sedan)

  • Phone number: 800-258-3826

Port Canaveral Transportation

Port Canaveral Transportation provides the best in luxury transportation with a wide variety of vehicles to choose from, all depending on budget and the size of your group.

They have base rates each vehicle type, and they provide an idea of cost based on where you’re traveling to. Still, the best way to get an accurate rate is to input your details on the website and choose a vehicle or give them a call.

They also have an app that you can download for the fastest bookings. It is available on Google Play and the App Store.

  • Price: Approximately $199 for a Town Car or 7 Passenger Van, depending on the size of your group.
  • Website: https://www.portcanaveraltransportation.com/

How much does Uber/Lyft cost from MCO to Port Canaveral?

Even though this is more expensive than taking a shuttle, it’s my personal preferred method of going to the cruise port. I’ve done it several times and will probably do it again on my next cruise.

There are two benefits to using Uber or Lyft. The first is that you get a private car all to yourself. The second is that you can request a ride whenever you’re ready and not have to worry about the scheduling times of shuttles.

In the past, I have paid anywhere from $60-$80 for a basic car, but a lot can depend on time of day, surge pricing, etc.

If you want or need a larger vehicle, it will likely cost over $100 each way.

Does Amtrak go to Port Canaveral from Orlando airport?

In short, no they don’t. However, there is an option you can take that requires multiple transfers from busses, to a train, and then a shuttle bus to the port. Because of this, I personally don’t see anyone choosing this option because of the time it takes and the pain of carrying luggage with multiple types of transfers.

Also, Brightline does not have a station near Port Canaveral at this time.

port canaveral shuttle service

Deciding which mode of transportation you’re going to take for your cruise out of Port Canaveral all depends on you. What’s best for one person is not best for everyone.

Personally, I just take a Lyft or Uber because I like the convenience of it. I have taken shuttles in the past but waiting in line to check-in, then waiting again for the bus just wasn’t for me.

Whichever you decide, we hope you have a great cruise.

9 Best Ways to Travel from Orlando to Port Canaveral

The two closest airports to Port Canaveral are the Orlando International Airport (MCO) and the smaller Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB), which are located 45 miles and 66 miles from the cruise terminals respectively.

This guide covers transportation options from both airports to Port Canaveral, including detailed information on:

Shuttles from Orlando to Port Canaveral

  • Private transport from Orlando to Port Canaveral
  • Unique transportation options from Orlando to Port Canaveral
  • Large group transport from Orlando to Port Canaveral
  • And much more!

Whether you’re looking for the quickest trip between the two destinations, the most budget-friendly option, or anything in between, keep reading to discover the nine best ways to travel from Orlando to Port Canaveral.

There are three ways to travel by shuttle from the ‘Magic City’ to the cruise terminals on the cape. The first is with independent shuttle services, the second is with official shuttle services from the cruise lines, and the third is with hotel shuttle services. We’ll break down the pro and cons of each!

1. Independent shuttles from Orlando to Port Canaveral

Port Canaveral is the second busiest cruise terminal in the world after the Port of Miami, so a seemingly endless amount of shuttle companies have popped up to satisfy the demand for transport between Orlando and the port.

The shuttle services are shared and typically cost around $30 and up for the round trip per person, but the price can go down when you have a larger group with more passengers. Start your search with this list shuttle companies:

Go Port Canaveral – Website

Star Trans VIP – Website

Ace Luxury Transport – Website

Cortrans Shuttle – Website

Cocoa Beach Shuttle – Website

Tropicana Transport – Website

Smart-Two.com Shuttles – Website

Spaceport Transport – Website

Mears Transportation – Website

Of course, there are plenty of shuttle services to choose from and plenty of online threads and reviews that can suck of hours of your time while you browse. If it all seems a bit overwhelming, consider an official cruise shuttle service or hotel shuttle services instead.

2. Official cruise shuttles from Orlando to Port Canaveral

Many cruise lines like Disney and Carnival offer their own shuttle services for their passengers from Orlando to Port Canaveral and back again. Each package is different, so speak to your cruise when booking to iron out the transport details and prices as well. Often, these shuttle services are more expensive than third-party options like those listed above, but they’re also more reliable and, if they’re running late, your cruise won’t leave without you.

3. Hotel shuttles

Some hotels in Cape Canaveral offer full packages for cruise passengers that include transport from Orlando to the hotel and the hotel to the cruise terminals before your cruise, and then from Port Canaveral back to Orlando when you return to Cape Canaveral after your trip.

If you’re planning to spend the night in Cape Canaveral before you set sail, these Fly, Cruise, and Snooze packages – from hotels like Comfort Inn and Suites Cocoa Beach and Courtyard by Marriott Cocoa Beach-Port Canaveral in this roundup by USA Today – can save you a significant amount of money on your trip.

Private Transport from Orlando to Port Canaveral

Skip the shuttles all together and choose private transportation between the airport and the cruise terminals with taxis, ridesharing apps like Uber and Lyft, or with a car rental.

As you might expect, taxis are one of the most expensive options to travel from the MCO and SFB airports to Port Canaveral. TaxiFareFinder estimates the rates from the Orlando International Airport to the terminal are about $126 without the tip per car (but remember, this price does cover up to four people). From the Sanford International Airport, the trip is a bit longer so the fare is also higher at $151 per car each way. Luckily, ridesharing services like Uber and Lyft have much more affordable prices.

5. Uber and Lyft

Unsurprisingly, Uber is less than half the price of a taxi.

From the Orlando International Airport to Port Canaveral the trip will only run about $59 per car. For a group of four, that makes the ride $30 per person round trip, which is the same as the cheapest shuttle services but much more convenient because it doesn’t require booking ahead or worries about late shuttles or no-shows.

The only downside to using Uber instead of a shuttle service is that the price can vary based on traffic and surging, but usually, the app can predict that before you call the ride. From the Sanford Airport, an Uber to Port Canaveral will cost about $78 each way.

6. Car Rental

Car rental services can be a good choice for the trip between Orlando and Port Canaveral, but only under certain circumstances.

There are many companies to choose from at the airports that also have offices near Cape Canaveral, so a one-way rental is usually possible, but does often come with an extra fee. If you decide to keep your car for the duration of your cruise, you’ll need to factor in the parking fees as well. Even with this in mind, car rentals can be a budget-friendly way to travel around Florida, especially if you plan to explore more of the state before or after your cruise.

One extra tip for the trip: there are toll roads on the route from both the Orlando International Airport and the Sanford International Airport, but they can be avoided by simply checking the ‘Avoid Tolls’ option in Google Maps when you calculate the route.

From the Orlando International Airport avoiding tolls does add significant travel time and distance to the trip, taking it from about 45 miles to 60 miles and adding 30 minutes of travel time. From the Sanford Airport, the drive without tolls is about the same length as the one with them and will take you via FL-46 E and I-95 S. This route takes an hour and seven minutes to drive the 60-mile route.

Unique Transportation Options

We’ve covered the most common transportation options between Orlando and Port Canaveral and the cheapest options, but what about the ones that are the most fun?! Add some flair to your trip and rent a limo, party bus or exotic car – or even charter a helicopter – to get from Orlando to your cruise ship in style.

7. Limo or Party Bus

Orlando Chauffeur Services has stellar reviews online and offers a variety of limos and party buses for every group size. Each trip comes with a meet and greet and a professional chauffeur, and gratuity is included in the price. Stretch limos for eight to ten people cost $210 and $240 respectively, while larger vans like sprinter limos and executive sprinters hold 12 and 14 people and will run you $360 for the trip.

8. Exotic Car

The Orlando International Airport is home to the Orlando Exotic Car Collection by Enterprise, which specializes in renting out exciting vehicles like an Aston Martin, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porche, Tesla, and more. Just click here to browse your favorites and then rent something splashy for the trip from MCO to Port Canaveral!

9. Helicopter Charter

In Orlando there are plenty of helicopter charter companies ready and waiting to take you anywhere you want to go. The Heli Team is one of the most popular charter services in the city but you can also explore services from Chopper and Helicopters, Inc. as well. This is certainly the most expensive transportation option from Orlando to Cape Canaveral, but there’s no doubt that it also comes with the most beautiful views!

Large Group Transport from Orlando to Port Canaveral

Are you in charge of a large group traveling from Orlando to Port Canaveral for a cruise? Whether it’s a tour, a family reunion, or anything in between, ensuring smooth sailing from point A to point B when traveling with a large group is crucial to staying organized.

While you could call multiple Uber rides or try to squeeze into multiple shuttles, getting one coach bus is much more simple. Many companies offer charter buses in and around Orlando, and this list will help you start your search:

Pheonix Bus – Website

US Coachways – Website

National Bus Charter – Website

Gogo Charters – Website

Orlando Charter Bus Company – Website

Academy Bus – Website

The prices vary but range around $120 to $180 per hour. However, some companies may require a minimum rental time that increases the price. Most also require calling to get a quote and to book the services, so you can get more details over the phone to find out the exact rates for your group size.

Best Way from Orlando Airport to Cruise in Port Canaveral

port canaveral cruise terminal to mco

Orlando International Airport (MCO) is Florida’s busiest and if you’re cruising from Port Canaveral, it’s also your ideal choice. It may surprise many to know that the distance to Port Canaveral from the closest major airport in Orlando is the furthest compared to airports serving all other Florida Cruise Ports. There are many options to get to Port Canaveral, the second busiest cruise port in the world, but, what’s the best way to make the 45-mile journey each way.

Why Fly into Orlando (MCO)

Just about all major airlines fly into Orlando International Airport, giving cruise travelers the most options when coordinating flights for their cruise. While large, the terminals are easy to navigate with automated shuttles operating between the main terminal buildings and gates. Before or after your flight, you’ll find tons of excellent quick and full-service dining options and shopping from your favorite restaurants and retailers.

Airlines serving Orlando International Airport:

What are your Transportation Options to Port Canaveral?

If you’re flying in the day of your cruise departure, you’ll need a way to get to your ship. Let’s look at some of your options below.

Rental Cars

Port Canaveral

While many rental car agencies have convenient service locations within Orlando Airport, that’s where the convenience ends. Once you’ve completed the required paperwork, you’ll first need to pick up your car from the airport garage. Before reaching your cruise terminal, you’ll need to stop at the rental car drop off location, and complete the transaction, before boarding one of their shuttles to the cruise terminal. After your cruise, you’ll need to do that all over again.

Port Canaveral

While taxis are plentiful from the airport and they will drop you off right at your cruise terminal, you can expect to pay a higher amount and if you are not a light packer, extra luggage may be a problem. An Uber may cost you less, but then you could have an issue of reliability, or surge pricing and you may also require a larger vehicle, increasing the price for excess luggage.

Cruise Line Transfers

Port Canaveral

You can buy transfers directly from your cruise line, but they tend to operate on less frequent schedules and since they charge you per person, you can expect to pay a significantly higher amount. In fact, cruise line transfers will probably be your most expensive option.

Port Canaveral

What’s the best way to get to your cruise on time and without the stress? As the number one provider of reliable transportation services to Port Canaveral for the past 10 years and with high customer satisfaction ratings, Go Port’s Orlando Airport to Port Canaveral Cruise Shuttles are prearranged online from home in a few easy steps.

Once you arrive at the Airport, all you need to do is check in at the Go Port counter located in the lower level of Terminal A. Your friendly driver will assist you with loading your luggage onto your air- conditioned luxury coach and if you’ve got a large group, no problem, your entire party can be accommodated.

All that’s left to do, is sit back and enjoy the relaxing trip knowing you’ll be taken directly to your cruise ship, on time, without the hassle and for less money. When the cruise is over, a Go Port Canaveral onsite greeter, will check you in and guide you to your coach for the trip back to the Orlando Airport.

What about Flying in the Night Before Your Cruise?

From experience, we always recommend flying in the night before your cruise departure and staying at a hotel. Orlando Airport hotels are plentiful, but you’ll need a way to get from the airport to your hotel and from the hotel to your cruise ship in the morning. You could just book a hotel, grab a taxi from the airport and then figure out a way to Port Canaveral, but why make things more complicated.

Port Canaveral

Go Port’s Fly Snooze Cruise Packages are simple to book online, offer the convenience of a bundled hotel with transportation and will save you money. Your package includes a timely shuttle from the airport to hotel, hotel accommodations, pick up and transfer by luxury coach from the hotel to your cruise ship and return transfer service back to the airport at the end of your cruise. You’ll have a choice from over 30 hotels, representing major brands you know and have the ability to select the one that matches your needs the best. With hotels close by the Orlando Airport and Port Canaveral, you’ll have the added benefit of convenience.

15+ Orlando Hotels With Cruise & Airport Shuttles to Port Canaveral

If you are flying into Orlando for a cruise from Port Canaveral, then you are going to need to figure out how to get to your ship. The port is about 45 minutes away from the Orlando International Airport (MCO), which is the closest major airport to the cruise terminals.

Cruise ship docked at Port Canaveral

The good news is that as one of the busiest ports in America, there are a number of options to get to the cruise terminal. From Uber to shuttles, you can easily make your way to the Port Canaveral/Cocoa Beach area .

But perhaps no way of getting to the port is as convenient as an Orlando hotel near the airport with a cruise shuttle. As a way of winning your business, many spots near the airport offer a free shuttle to their hotel after you arrive from your flight. And then after your stay, they can help you with a shuttle ride to Port Canaveral (for a fee).

This way you don’t have to worry how you are going to get to the hotel from the airport or to the cruise ship on the day you sail. (A number of hotels in Port Canaveral also offer cruise shuttles if you prefer to stay closer to your ship.)

How Airport and Cruise Shuttles Work for Orlando Hotels

Airport Shuttles : Most of the hotels below work in a similar way. They offer free shuttles between the airport and the hotel that run either 24 hours per day, or at all times except for a few hours in the middle of the night.

You’ll want to get all your luggage and only then call the hotel. They will direct you on where to go to catch your ride. Since all the hotels below are right near the Orlando airport, the ride should only take 5-10 minutes.

Port Canaveral Shuttles : Given the distance, the vast majority of hotels don’t have their own shuttle to the port. Instead, cruise passengers can arrange a ride with a third-party shuttle provider if staying at a hotel near the airport. So you book the hotel and then contact the shuttle company to book your ride . The shuttle will pick you up right at the hotel to take you to the port. They will also give you a ride back for your flight when you return.

Expect the shuttle to run roughly $50-70 per person, round trip. The following companies offer pickup at the hotels near the airport.

  • Cortrans Shuttle
  • Port Canaveral Quick Shuttle
  • Danica Transportation

For hotels that offer shuttles through a package, you may have to book through the hotel website. Review ratings come from Google and are rounded to the nearest half point.

The latest breaking updates, delivered straight to your email inbox.

A new cruise terminal is in the works at Port Canaveral.

It’s a move to meet the demand of the booming cruising industry, but it’s expected to take years and hundreds of millions of dollars.

This is mainly because of the number of upgrades across the many levels at the Port that will have to be done while the expansion takes place.

New cruise Terminal 4 is good news for cruisers, but the greater Port community is expected to benefit as well.

According to industry expert Stewart Chiron with The Cruise Guy, “In this case with the explosive growth the Port Canaveral has experiences over the years, when you add another terminal, you are adding thousands more vehicles in and out.”

So that means major investment in infrastructure like parking structures and roadways.

“This will be billions of dollars in new revenue for Port Canaveral for local businesses, the hotels and restaurants and shops. Going forward it’s a major employment opportunity in dealing with the construction,” Chiron said.

Port leadership has emphasized that nothing currently at the Port will be taken away as a result of the expansion.

But there will be shuffling to make way for the new terminal like Bluepoints Marina will be relocated as Cape Marina’s lease is not being renewed.

The board of commissioners is looking to nail down details as many will be impacted by the expansion.

“It’d probably be good to see a timeline at some point to say this is when the new Bluepoints going to come online, this is when the new terminal will be done. There’s a lot of balls in the air. So we don’t actually know those things, we are at a starting point,” Board of Commissioners Chairman Micah Loyd said.

Port Canaveral has plan to shift marinas to make way for new cruise terminal

Port Canaveral officials say they have a plan for how to move the Bluepoints Marina 's operations to make way for a new Cruise Terminal 4 that will be built on that site in a few years.

Their plan, presented last week to port commissioners, is to move Bluepoints to part of the site of Cape Marina , with the two operations sharing the 15-acre site, which is west of the current Bluepoints in the port's south side Marina District.

The port is scheduled to take ownership of Bluepoints in December 2026 through a previously approved deal. Meanwhile, Cape Marina's 50-year lease with the port is scheduled to expire in February 2026, and the port will seek proposals from potential operators to assume the lease of that facility.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

Passenger records set: What you need to know about Port Canaveral's record-setting day, month for passenger counts

The port is planning to build a $175 million Cruise Terminal 4/parking garage complex that could open in late-2026 or 2027. It would be used by multiple cruise lines, and would have a 1,400-foot-long berth space.

Port Canaveral CEO John Murray said Cape Marina is not using its land efficiently, and he believes the Bluepoints and Cape Marina operations both can fit into the Cape site.

Murray said port officials already have had several discussions with Cape Marina officials, and "we've advised them that we're not going to renew their lease in this existing format. Our goal is to put that property out for an RFP for development when the lease is over. And we've invited Cape to participate in that" request-for-proposals process.

The port's plan, however, doesn't sit well with Cape Marina owner and General Manager Karen Seaman Burk, whose father founded the business, which now has about 20 employees.

In a letter to port commissioners, Burk wrote: "Businesses that have been fixtures in the port for 10, 20, 30, 40 and now 50 years face an uncertain future. These tenants have been integral to the building of port to what it is today. The threat to their existence is a call for attention and support from community leaders like yourself."

Burk contends that "the cart is being put before the horse" by the port's rapid expansion of its cruise operations, while there is "a significant gap in its capacity to manage the increasing cruise traffic effectively."

Port Canaveral is the world's second-busiest cruise port, and will have 16 cruise ships based there in the 2024-25 winter cruising season, up from 13 in the current winter season. For the first four months of the current budget year, cruise operations and cruise-related parking accounted for 80.1% of the port's total operating revenue.

Murray said the owners of Cape Marina will have an opportunity to submit a proposal for the site, just like other interested parties can.

Canaveral Port Authority Vice Chair Wayne Justice said he supports Murray's plan.

"From my perspective, this is a strategic direction that we started a couple years ago," Justice said. "And that is to to optimize the use of our deepwater bulkheads," which he termed "our most valuable asset."

In a separate Facebook post, Cape Marina said: "Cape Marina recognizes the premium nature of property in Port Canaveral, and we are committed to working collaboratively with the port to meet its objectives while preserving its unique character. While we acknowledge the importance of the cruise ship industry and the revenue it generates, we also believe in preserving the hometown flair that businesses like Cape Marina bring to the port."

Murray said commercial fishing businesses, charter operators and recreational boaters that use Bluepoints and Cape Marina will still have a place for their vessels with the revamped facilities. He noted that, among the users of that area are suppliers seafood for the Seafood Atlantic operations at the port.

"This is a significant project in that end of the port," Murray said. "So there's a lot of work to do. And we've been doing it behind the scenes. We stated before, we're not taking anything away. Our goal is to improve the efficiency of the existing acreage and uplands at that end of the port. We are also supporting our commercial fishing trade. And we're going to need to improve roadways and access for all users."

The port also must decide how to run the Bluepoints facility, once it assumes control at the end of 2026, possible by securing a marina management company.

"There's a lot of balls in the air," Port Authority Chair Micah Loyd said.
