Baguio City Food Guide 2023

food trip baguio 2023

A city guide to document contemporary Baguio

Baguio holds a lot of nostalgia for me. I grew up in the city, and it was a place my family and I always found ourselves coming back to. We visited during Christmas vacations, Holy Week breaks and long weekends. We visited in the summertime to escape the heat and during the -ber months to embrace the “cold.” We visited when it took a five to six-hour transit to get there, and we visited when it took a three to four-hour car ride from home (thank you, TPLEX).

There are what sociologists call “first place,” which is your home, “second place,” which is your school or workplace, and “third place,” which are public places for community building and creativity. In certain ways, Baguio serves as a third place for me—where I could find myself separated from home and school. The people I come with have a version of Baguio in their memory, and here we create and share the experiences melding them into a collective memory.

My visits to Baguio are akin to reading my favorite novel at different points in my life. Places evolve, just as people do.

While Baguio will always have its classics—Camp John Hay, Session Road, Burnham Park and Café by the Ruins—this creative city is always innovating, and here are some fresh faces worth checking out.

Rebel Bakehouse

3 Naguilian Rd, Baguio, 2600 Benguet

If you think you have to go to France to get a Parisian-level pastry fix, think again. Partners and Baguio locals, Donna Aldana and Danica Santos, started their venture selling Burnt Basque Cheesecakes and later branched out to making croissants during the pandemic. Donna, the head baker, is self-trained and was on her track to becoming a doctor after passing the boards until she decided to switch careers to arrive where she is today.

Their (well-deserved) popularity soared, and they recently opened their brick-and-mortar store along Naguilian Road last December 2022.

Rebellion has never tasted so sweet, especially since it’s in a form of a buttery croissant.

Hatch Coffee

135 Easter Road corner Road 1 Manzanillo, Baguio City

Walk-ins welcome, and reservations are highly encouraged

Pastries and coffee go hand in hand. So do Rebel Bakehouse and Hatch Coffee. While they serve the coffee at Rebel Bakehouse, they have their own location in Easter Road—hence the name Hatch. It’s a third-wave coffee shop, which means that they place emphasis on the story behind every cup of coffee they serve, encompassing the whole supply chain from producers, importers, roasters and baristas.

The café is set in a cozy house, where you can enjoy a cup of coffee against their wooden interiors or outside in their garden to enjoy the cool Baguio air.

Gypsy by Chef Waya

6 Quezon Hill Road 2, Brgy Quezon Hill Rd, Baguio, 2600 Benguet

If Baguio is a place of nostalgia for one, it’s a place of homecoming for another.

If you’re from Quezon City, Gypsy by Chef Waya will probably look familiar to you. Chef Waya Wijangcois is the owner of the nostalgic Gourmet Gypsy Art Cafe, whose original branch was along Roces Avenue until it closed down at the onset of the pandemic. Chef Waya grew up in the City of Pines and decided to reopen as Gypsy.

The restaurant retains its homey vibe and international cuisine, with an addition of new items to put a spotlight on the local ingredients in Baguio, and the former art café fits right in with the creative city.

If you’re looking for something light, go to the back and find Taguan Cafe where you can have your local caffeine fix in a hidden alfresco setting.

Foggy Mountain Cookhouse

172 St Joseph Street, San Carlos Heights, Baguio City

Reservations are mandatory

Chef Babes’ Foggy Mountain Cookhouse is the place if you’re looking for a quiet dinner outside of Baguio’s usual bustle. Founded in 2014, Marianito Reyes (Chef Babes) found himself looking for something to do post-retirement after managing an importing business. He found inspiration in his travels during his career and recreated his most memorable food experiences—mostly North European—back at his rest house in Baguio and began Foggy Mountain Cookhouse.

The menu changes seasonally, and guests have to make a reservation and order in advance. The heritage house makes such a romantic setting, and its quiet ambiance makes you appreciate Baguio’s undeniable charm even more.

Baguio City Food Guide 2023

Bistro Lokal

307 Magsaysay Ave, Baguio, Benguet

Bistro Lokal is proof of Baguio’s ever-evolving scene. Chef Miko is part of Slow Food International, an organization that builds communities around the world to preserve traditional and heritage ingredients and cooking. As a Baguio local, he grew up exposed to Cordilleran cuisine, which he now shares with locals and visitors of the city in a 10-course degustation setup.

He serves dishes that put Cordilleran ingredients at the forefront, such as Pinuneg, Kinuday, wild mushrooms and red rice. The best part? 15% of the proceeds are donated to organic farmers at Benguet to develop their practice.

Baguio City: Basic Information and Brief History

Baguio is a highly urbanized city located in the province of Benguet. It is also known as the Summer Capital of the Philippines due to its chilly year-round environment. The city sits 4810 feet (1466 meters) above sea level, and its location is conducive to cultivating different root crops and vegetables.

Baguio City is also abundant in history. During the American Colonial Period in the 1900s, the US Military used Baguio as a hill station. Daniel Burnham, an urban designer, plans the whole city’s distinct layout. Unfortunately, during World War II, the Japanese attacked Camp John Hay, turning the city into ruins.

Currently, Baguio City is one of the most famous tourist spots in the country. But, who could imagine this mountainous city has a lot of historical moments that shaped the Philippines today?

As of September 7, 2023, Cafe in the Sky is closed to the public. We suggest being flexible in your itinerary and visiting other city breakfast cafes.

The map below features the places to visit for Day 1 of the 3D2N Baguio Itinerary. Kindly check the maps posted above for Days 2 and 3 of this trip.

These are our sample itineraries. We have used these itineraries in Baguio City for the last five years, and we hope this information will guide you in planning your next Baguio City Getaway. Now that you know our itineraries, it’s time to see our recommended hotels, restaurants, and other tourist spots in this marvelous city.

When choosing your accommodation, you must consider your budget and preferences. We are here to explore Baguio, not to hit the sack all day in our hotel room. That’s why a cheap yet comfortable room is enough. So please take a look at our recommended hotels and stays in Baguio.

Photo of Microtel in Baguio City

Our Choice: Microtel by Wyndham Baguio City

This is our favorite hotel in Baguio City. Microtel is a three-star hotel that provides outstanding comfort and service to its guest. What we like the most about this place is its location. Microtel is located beside Victory Liner Bus Station and is also accessible to different tourist spots in the city. They also have a complimentary breakfast buffet included in the room package.

Microtel’s rates are slightly expensive, and their standard deluxe room costs around PHP 4,000 a night. But with Agoda, you can book a room online at discounted rates of up to 50% off.  Click this link to see the discounted rates in Microtel.

Baguio City is also best when it comes to food trips. Most restaurants here offer big servings at an affordable price. The servings are so huge that you can share them with friends and family. Here are five of our recommended restaurants and cafes that you should try:

  • Good Taste Restaurant  – Best 24-Hour Restaurant. This food place offers a variety of Filipino Cuisine with huge servings at an affordable price!
  • Oh, My Gulay!  – An artsy place and restaurant located at the heart of Session Road in Baguio.
  • 50’s Diner  – Travel back to the 50s and enjoy the food of the American Era.
  • Baguio Craft Brewery  – Chill at night and have a glass of the best-tasting crafted beers in the city.
  • Lemon and Olives  – The First Greek Restaurant in Baguio City!

Other Information

When is the best month to visit baguio city.

It is best to visit Baguio during December, January, and February. These periods are also the most congested since travelers all over the country want to experience a pleasant cool climate. Furthermore, Baguio City celebrates the Panagbenga Flower Festival annually in February .

Visiting Baguio City during March, April, and May is also good, but it will be slightly warmer than the previous months. Avoid visiting Baguio City from September to November due to heavy rains, and some major highways are impassable because of the increased risk of landslides.

Any additional travel tips in Baguio City?

  • One important keyword:  Follow . Follow your itinerary, the city’s safety standards, and the travel and tour agency.
  • Bring your jackets . The night is colder than you think, and wearing a jacket is an added layer of protection against the city’s cold climate.
  • Always keep yourself hydrated . Baguio City is a high-altitude city, and you might experience altitude sickness if you explore the place on foot. Always bring a water bottle with you to avoid getting altitude sickness.
  • Always bring a small bag . In traveling, you might bring a big 30L to 40L backpack full of clothes and things you need for the following days of your trip. Of course, you will not be getting your heavy bags with you during the tour. Keep your main bag in your hotel room or accommodation. Bringing a small bag helps explore the city without the excess weight.
  • Reservations are king . It’s better to reserve things in advance before any trip or activity. Many travelers visit the city daily, and full accommodation is a common problem. Always book your accommodation in advance, it’s better this way than letting yourselves stay in the street braving the cold night.
  • Have an open mind and be responsible . We are all visitors to this place; be sensitive and respect their culture, values, and norms. Avoid throwing trash and be responsible.
  • If you wish to contact any tourism officials in Baguio City, you can visit their tourism Facebook page at:  https://www.facebook.com/baguiotourism/ .

Hi po, thank you so much, these will surely help us on our upcoming Baguio Trip…

Just want to ask lang po, if we’re planning for a 4D3N – 4 pax trip to Baguio+Sagada, do you think its better to book for a joiners trip going to Sagada? cheaper po ba if ganun? ehehehe salamuchhhhhh.

' src=

hi. what time po open ang cafe in the sky?

' src=

The last time we visited Cafe in the Sky was in 2017. We arrived at 5 AM and the cafe was already opened. I don’t know if it’s still the same today since that area is closed to the public. Only residents of Baguio City are allowed to enter the area.

Have a safe trip!

Hi, totoo bang mahirap ang parking area sa mga tourist attraction? My friend told me na mas better iwan ang kotse sa accomodation then mag-taxi nalang?

Hi Carlo, Yes! The traffic is even worse during the holiday season. Most tourists keep their vehicles in their accommodation and ride a cab instead. Pero, it depends on the tourist attraction na pupuntahan ninyo. If you are planning to visit the most crowded places like (Wright Park, Mines View, Botanical Garden, and Session Road), I advise na mag-taxi na lang kayo. For places like BenCab and Strawberry Farm, you can bring your vehicle since medyo malayo na mga ito and baka mapa-mahal pa kayo if mag taxi kayo. Enjoy your upcoming vacation in Baguio!

Hello! True bang di na need ng QTP/Visita requirements pag nagpuntang Baguio?

Hi Key, I asked the staff from local Baguio Tourism Office and said that QTP is still required when visiting Baguio City. However, based on the experience of my fellow blogger on his recent trip, they are not implementing the QTP strictly anymore. To be safe, just apply for a QTP in case they look for it.

Strawberry ice cream is really something that no one should miss when visiting La Trinidad farms.

Di ko knows yung Cogcoga. Akala ko bundok lang nandoon.

It was an unexpected turn haha. We discovered a high-altitude community filled with joyous and enthusiastic people 🙂

Baguio will always be my second favorite city after Legazpi City, Albay where I grew up.

Nakakatuwa kasi Good Taste din ang una kong hinahanap pagbaba ko pa lang ng bus sa VLiner. Fresh and generous!

Nakacheck in na din ako sa Bed and Bath kaso I really don’t prefer dormitory styles at di ko bet CR nila. Though it’s cheap and very accessible sa down town.Pero last time we were there to ask tariffs, pogi yung front desk lols!

I went to Legazpi City last 2011, I think it’s time to revisit your home city again 🙂

March 11, 2021 March 11, 2021 by Celia Nachura

food trip baguio 2023

As travel regulations ease up in tourist destinations nationwide, it’s finally time to indulge in the much-needed getaway you’ve long been planning. With cool climes, pretty mountain views, and famous tourist spots, Baguio has all of the ingredients necessary for a fun-filled yet relaxing summer vacation. Plus, it’s known for a wide array of amazing dining spots, whether you’re seeking cozy cafés or date night options. If you’re planning a Baguio trip sometime soon, check out our quick guide below on the best cafés, restaurants, and attractions to visit in the City of Pines in 2021.

Early mornings in Baguio are tranquil and pleasant with few people out and about. Devout tourists can say a prayer or attend Mass at the Our Lady of Atonement Cathedral (Baguio Cathedral) in the morning, while fitness experts can go for a jog, bike, or boat ride at Burnham Park . Even a relaxing stroll outside is a great way to kick off the day before enjoying a hearty meal at our favorite breakfast spots in the city.

Café By The Ruins

Baguio Café By The Ruins

Among the current crop of restaurants in Baguio City, Café by the Ruins is among the most well-loved. Early risers can come in for a post-sunrise meal in this iconic café that’s known to highlight the freshest fruits and vegetables of the region. You can’t really go wrong with any of the menu options, but the bagnet is a crowd favorite. Vegetarian options are also available, as well as an extensive selection of drinks including hot chocolate, coffee, and tea.

Café by the Ruins Address: 25 Shuntug Rd, Baguio Opening Hours: 7AM to 8PM

Choco-late De Batirol

Baguio Choco-late De Batirol

Another must-try breakfast spot in Baguio is Choco-late De Batirol. Located in Camp John Hay, this slow food haven serves a multitude of Filipino favorites, including all-day breakfast fares like bangus , tocino , and Vigan longganisa . And of course, the traditional chocolate de batirol is a must-try here and perfect during cool Baguio mornings.

Choco-late de Batirol Address: Igorot Park, Camp John Hay, Baguio Opening Hours: Monday to Thursday, 8AM to 6PM; Friday to Sunday, 8AM to 8PM

Catch a few sights before going out for lunch. This time of day is a great time to be out in nature, whether you prefer horseback riding at Wright Park or snapping Insta-worthy photos at Baguio Botanical Garden . Or you can check out one of the top cultural attractions in Baguio, the traditional Tam-awan Village that showcases the history, culture, arts, and way of life of the Cordillera people.

Farmer’s Daughter

Baguio Farmer’s Daughter

Enjoy a spread of native Cordillera cuisine in the Farmer’s Daughter restaurant in Tam-awan Village. Meat lovers will appreciate the selection of meats on the menu, particularly the kinuday (smoked meat) that’s a staple in the region. Other than the beef, pork, or chicken kinuday , order a few additional dishes like the pinuneg (pork blood sausage). When in Baguio, it’s a must to try the region’s cuisine.

Farmer’s Daughter Address: Tam-awan Village, Long Long Benguet Road, Baguio Opening Hours: 9AM to 4:30PM

Lemon and Olives

Baguio Lemon and Olives

Hankering for international flavors? Lemon and Olives in Baguio is the city’s first foray into rich Greek cuisine, serving classic Mediterranean dishes such as kebabs and souvlakis. Pasta dishes are also a great choice in this charming restaurant. Any tourist who wants to try something new and delicious in Baguio will fall in love with this authentic Greek restaurant.

Lemon and Olives Address: 26 Outlook Drive, Baguio Opening Hours: Monday to Thursday, 11AM to 7PM; Friday to Sunday, 11AM to 8PM

Baguio Good Taste

Famously open 24/7, Good Taste is a good stop at all hours of the day. Serving large portions of fan-favorite Filipino and Chinese dishes, Good Taste has become one of the most popular restaurants in the city. Tourists on a budget will be comfortable with the affordable prices of delicious dishes, including the best-selling buttered chicken.

Good Taste Address: Otek Street, Baguio Opening Hours: 24/7

Snacks and Coffee

There are plenty of post-lunch activities to enjoy in Baguio City. Head to Camp John Hay for nonstop fun in nature, particularly at the Baguio Tree Top Adventure for ziplining, free fall, and trekking. Prefer the arts to the outdoors? Visit BenCab Museum to admire the works of National Artist Benedicto Reyes Cabrera and other renowned Filipino artists.

The in-house café and restaurant serves hot and cold drinks, as well as a colorful array of healthy dishes using ingredients from their own organic farm.

Café Sabel Address: BenCab Museum, Km 6. Asin Road, Baguio Opening Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 9AM to 6PM

Hatch Coffee

Baguio Hatch Coffee

With the cool mountain climate of Baguio, it’s not surprising that the city has an impressive range of cafés that travelers can choose from. Among our favorites is Hatch Coffee, a third-wave coffee shop tucked in a lush garden away from the metro’s daily bustle. Sample the best-selling Easter Sandwich with its mouthwatering Baguio longganisa , which is best paired with the crowd favorite: Dirty Hatchata.

Hatch Coffee Address: 135 Easter Road corner Road 1 Manzanillo, Baguio Opening Hours: Monday to Wednesday, 10AM to 5PM; Thursday to Sunday, 10AM to 7PM

Even as the day winds down, the city of Baguio remains a lively destination with plenty of evening hotspots to enjoy. Before the night falls, ghost hunters can drop by the Old Diplomat Hotel , which is hailed as one of the most haunted places in the Philippines. The popular Mines View Park is also a great spot for sunsets with stunning views of mountain vistas. And if you’re still wide awake after dinner, go bargain hunting at Baguio Night Market or delight over the vibrant nightlife along Session Road.

Hill Station

Baguio Hill Station

Treat yourself to dinner at the renowned restaurant Hill Station. The fine dining establishment serves impeccably prepared Asian fusion dishes inspired by European and American flavors. The cozy dining spot is one of the top restaurants in Baguio for date nights with its tranquil ambiance and five-star dishes.  And if Hill Station is a bit too intimidating to you (or your wallet), try the more budget-friendly Bistro by Hill Station at Camp John Hay.

Hill Station Address: Casa Vallejo, Upper Session Road, Baguio Opening Hours: 8AM to 9PM

Oh My Gulay

Baguio Oh My Gulay

Vegans and vegetarians find a veggie haven in Oh My Gulay, a charming restaurant serving fresh, flavorful vegan and vegetarian meals that appeal to non-meat eaters and meat eaters alike. But more than just a restaurant, Oh My Gulay is also a permanent art space designed as an indoor tropical garden showcasing the dazzling works of Filipino contemporary artist Victor Oteyza.

Baguio Travel Guide 2023: Best Things to See, Eat, and Do

In a country heavily reliant on the tourism sector, there inevitably lies an abundance of tourist traps. But occasionally, there are also destinations that reel in tourists organically. Baguio City   is one of the latter. Yes, there are definitely commercialised areas in the city that awkwardly try to lure in the moneyed folk. Yet once rid of all its establishments, Baguio still remains the same magical, mystical town where everyone is free to dream.

Almost everyone has been to Baguio for this reason. And almost everyone who’s been to Baguio returns for the same. It is an unchanging city, but ironically, it also proffers surprises every now and then. You will never run out of  things to do in Baguio , but if you’re visiting for the first time, let this Baguio travel guide keep your trip memorable.

Getting there

baguio travel guide

Thanks to newly established expressways , getting to Baguio is easier than ever if you’re coming from Metro Manila. Now, the city is only four to six hours away from the metro if you pass through NLEX, SCTEX, and TPLEX.

You can take different bus lines from  Cubao ,  Pasay , and  Avenida , including  Victory Liner ,  Genesis Transport ,  Joy Bus ,  PARTAS , and  Dagupan Bus Lines . If you choose a regular bus, expect the travel time to extend up to seven hours. Bus fares start at around ₱600. Students, PWDs, and senior citizens may avail of discounted tickets.

baguio travel guide

Baguio City is accessible through five entry points:  Kennon Road ,  Aspiras–Palispis Highway  (aka Marcos Highway),  Naguilian Road ,  Halsema Road , and  Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya Road . The best route to take will depend on where you’re coming from, what mode of transportation you’re taking, and if there have been any recent calamities (Kennon Road usually closes access due to landslides).

Most visitors from Metro Manila choose to enter Kennon Road through  Rosario, La Union . It is normally the fastest route and is marked by the famous  Lion’s Head . However, if you’re taking a public bus, you will most likely enter through Aspiras–Palispis Highway as it has wider lanes.

Meanwhile, if you’re coming from Northern Luzon provinces, Naguilian Road is your best option. From Ilocos Sur, it takes approximately two hours to Baguio. Meanwhile, Halsema Road connects the  Mountain Province  and  Ifugao  to  Benguet . So if you’re coming from  Sagada  or  Banaue , you’ll probably take this route.

Finally, visitors from Nueva Vizcaya can also take the relatively new Benguet-Nueva Vizcaya Road. From Bambang–Aritao, the route also passes  Bokod  and  Itogon  and ends in  Pacdal Circle  near Baguio’s  Wright Park .

Getting around

baguio travel guide

Baguio is generally a walkable city, save for its endless rainy days. If you’re staying within the central business district, you can easily walk to restaurants, malls, service areas, parks, schools, and transportation stations. But if you’re kilometres away from the city centre, you can hail Baguio’s low-cost taxis. As of writing, taxis in Baguio have a flag-down rate of ₱35, with a ₱2 increase per 100-metre after the first 500 metres. You can also book a GrabTaxi if you can’t find cabs passing by.

For tourists, exploring Baguio by foot or by cab is the most recommended option. Jeepney routes may be confusing; decoding parking spaces and one-way policies is just as cumbersome. Unless you’re travelling to tourist spots outside the CBD, leave your vehicle home.

Where to stay in Baguio

food trip baguio 2023

As a top tourist destination in the Philippines, Baguio has countless accommodation options for every traveller. Whether you prefer five-star hotels or humble bed spaces, condo-type Airbnbs or glamping spots, the city has all the options to fit your budget.

If you’re visiting Baguio for the first time and want to experience most of the city by foot, it would be best to choose accommodation along  Session Road , near  Burnham Park , or within the vicinity of  SM Baguio . You can do a quick inspection of your chosen stay’s accessibility through  Google Maps . Any listing that takes at least 30 minutes of walking from Session Road, Burnham Park, or SM Baguio is less than ideal.

Meanwhile, if you’re seeking a quiet staycation, you can go for accommodations away from the city centre. Consider Camp 7, Loakan Road, or Ambuklao.

For our specific suggestions on where to stay in Baguio, read  this .

Where to eat in Baguio

baguio travel guide

From authentic Cordilleran food to cheap Korean fare, Baguio has a diverse range of cuisines for every foodie. Fine-dining restaurants have long been present in the city, mostly catering to country club members, golf enthusiasts, and business travellers. But student-friendly eateries also abound in this university town.

Nowadays, more and more charming cafes and whimsical restaurants are sprouting around Baguio, a fast-growing culture and art hub. But if you prefer familiar food, fast-food chains are also just as present.

For our specific suggestions on where to eat in Baguio, read  this .

Top things to do in Baguio

This Baguio travel guide won’t be complete without our suggested things to do in Baguio. For first-time visitors, coming up with an itinerary may be overwhelming because of the numerous activities available in the city. So, here are just some easy activities you can try.

Burnham Park, Mines View Park, and Camp John Hay

burnham park

Three of the most obvious Baguio tourist attractions are  Burnham Park ,  Mines View Park , and  Camp John Hay . Burnham Park serves as a great family destination, offering fun activities like boating, skating, and cycling. Mines View Park is best known for its panoramic mountain views of the mountains, but it also has several souvenir stores that are unmistakably Baguio. Camp John Hay is both an urban centre (with a Technohub that houses BPO companies, 24/7 restaurants, convenience stores, and banks) and a place of refuge. The former military facility is best known for its golf clubs and eco trails, as well as the Manor Hotel , Treetop Adventure , Cemetery of Negativism , and Bell House .

BenCab Museum, Tam-awan Village, Igorot Stone Kingdom, and Mt. Cloud Bookshop

bencab museum baguio

Taste the brimming art and culture spots in Baguio by visiting  BenCab Museum ,  Tam-awan Village ,  Igorot Stone Kingdom , and  Mt. Cloud Bookshop .

BenCab is a popular art museum that sits in Baguio’s neighbouring town,  Tuba . It holds art by National Artist of the Philippines for Visual Arts (painting) Benjamin Cabrera, as well as other collections by national artists.

Tam-awan Village and Igorot Stone Kingdom are both located along Longlong Road, so make sure to visit both if you have the time. These Baguio tourist attractions display indigenous craftsmanship through simulated local villages. With Ifugao and Kalinga huts, rock-laid walls, and symbolic towers, these two destinations intend to immerse tourists in Cordilleran history and culture.

mt cloud bookshop baguio

Mt. Cloud is also a remarkable spot every bookworm must visit when in Baguio. A local speciality bookstore, it houses both local and international books, although they’re mostly known for selling independent and regional books.

Baguio shopping centres

Finally, don’t miss Baguio’s  ukay-ukay ! The  Baguio Night Market , which opens at 9pm every night along  Harrison Road , is a popular spot for thrift finds and cheap eats. But you can also go bargain shopping any time of the day at  Abanao Street ,  Maharlika Livelihood Center ,  Skyworld , and  Bayanihan Center . Ask around for the best place to get thrift finds. If you’re lucky, you might snag one of those designer brands in mint condition.

Baguio travel tips for first-time visitors

Dress appropriately..

With its high altitude, Baguio is mostly cold throughout the year. It’s a generally rainy city, although some days the sun will grace the area. We recommend packing layers because no one can ever tell how the weather will be. Bring an umbrella, a light cardigan or jacket, waterproof shoes or boots, and a scarf, and you’ll be ready for all possibilities.

Be wary of your schedule.

Baguio gets crowded during weekends and holidays. So, if you’re visiting Baguio during a busy period, make sure to pre-book your bus tickets. You can also purchase tickets online. If you have plans to dine in popular restaurants, try to book reservations as well.

While the city sees flocks of tourists throughout the year, Baguio is most hectic in February as it celebrates the annual  Panagbenga Festival . If you don’t mind crowds and want to join in the festivities, you’ll definitely enjoy this flower festival, where locals celebrate the flower harvest of the Cordillera region through concerts, dances, parades, and street food.

Respect traffic rules.

Bringing a car to Baguio? Be aware of the one-way policies, avoid honking multiple times, and stop at pedestrian lanes. The city is remarkably respectful of traffic rules, and you don’t want to be seen as a nuisance. As a pedestrian, remember to observe stoplights and cross the street using pedestrian lanes.

Bring cash.

Baguio has several ATMs, and most of its newer establishments accept online payments. However, there remain quaint local spots that prefer cash, and some locations have limited mobile signals. Be safe and bring cash; if you’re thrifty enough, ₱1,000 per day can be enough.

2023 BAGUIO TOURIST SPOTS AND THINGS TO DO

by thepinay solobackpacker | Dec 8, 2023 | Baguio , Philippines , Tourist Spots | 0 comments

Comprehensive travel blog of Baguio tourists spots, includes how to get there and nearby tourist destinations.

The Baguio City that we see today was designed by the Americans, this is why you’ll find some tourist spots here with American names like Camp John Hay and Burnham Park.  After the Spaniards surrendered the Philippines to the United States, they established a hill station in Baguio City because they were beckoned by the  pleasant weather and pine-fringed hills here. But long before the said foreigners arrived here, Baguio City was already inhabited by the Kankana-ey and Ibaloi indigenous peoples of the Cordillera Region, an area known as Kafagway back then.

Fast forward today, Baguio is a melting pot of cultures and where the modern and the traditional thrive and blend beautifully.  Baguio has long been my favorite vacation spot, yes, it’s now pretty crowded especially during holidays and weekends, but it holds a special place in my heart because this is where I traveled during my first solo trip over a decade ago. There’s this good, unexplainable feeling whenever I visit this bustling city.

If you plan on visiting Baguio, for a few days or as a weekend getaway, here’s a list of some of the top tourist spots in Baguio.  If I miss something, feel free to suggest and comment below.

BAGUIO TOURIST SPOTS: BURNHAM PARK

My friend once told me, if you get lost in Baguio, just go back to Burnham Park and you’ll find your way again. Indeed, she’s right. Baguio has always been special to me, as it is my first solo travel destination over a decade ago.  Whenever I feel like getting lost, I travel to Baguio and stroll along Session Road and go people watching in Burnham Park. It may be crowded and chaotic most of the times, especially during weekends and public holidays, but I don’t know why I still feel at peace when I see its timeless beauty.

Burnham Park is situated at the heart of downtown Baguio, fringed by hotels, restaurants, and shops.  It’s an ideal place for a leisurely walk due to its paved walkway. This sprawling park was the brainchild of the eponymous Daniel Burnham, who designed the park when Baguio was first developed as a retreat for the US military due to its cold weather.   You can actually find his statue at the park’s main entrance, enveloped by a rose garden.

The park features a man-made lagoon surrounded by tropical flowers, where visitors enjoy riding and rowing the swan boats.  Also, inside the confines of Burnham Park is Melvin Jones Grand Stadium, fronting the soccer field.  This place is often used as venue for concerts, parades,  political rally, and Panagbenga Festival, Baguio’s biggest festivity.

2.SESSION ROAD

Open Hours: 24/7 but shops and restaurants will most likely be closed by midnight.

Nearby Baguio Tourist Spots: Burnham Park, Baguio Cathedral, Oh My Gulay, Baguio Night Market

BAGUIO TOURIST SPOTS: SESSION ROAD

One of the top Baguio tourist spots is a famous street named Session Road. Its name is coined from the 1st Session of the 2 nd Philippine Commission because this main highway leads to the old Baden-Powell Hall where it was held.

Session Road is divided into 2 areas: Lower Session Road and Upper Session Road . The Lower area is the business hub of Baguio city, fringed with banks, hotels, restaurants, shops, bakeries, and Art Deco buildings. It runs eastward from Magsaysay Street near Malcolm Square through Baguio Cathedral and Governor Pack Road. Meanwhile, the Upper area runs from the Post Office Loop and SM Baguio to Baguio Country Club, Camp John Hay, PMA, and Itogon’s mine areas.

3. UKAY-UKAY

Open Hours: Depends on each shop, but usually they’re open until 8:00 PM only.

Nearby Baguio Tourist Spots: Session Road, Burnham Park, Baguio Cathedral, Oh My Gulay

One of the top things to do in Baguio to to go to ukay-ukay or wagwagan. Many thrift shops mushroomed over the years around and near its central business district, offering cheap clothes, jackets, shoes, toys, bags, etc. My go to ukay-ukay shops in Baguio are located at the corner of F.Calderon along Session Road . This place is quite clean compared to other shops, but the apparels are quite expensive compared to the usual ukay-ukay, perhaps because of its popularity.

Bayanihan along Shanum Street is also a pretty famous  ukay-ukay haven. Most of the products here are upscale, so expect the price to be quite expensive compared to the usual ukay-ukay prices.

Another great place to shop for ukay-ukay are the shops around U-need Supermart along San Perfecto Street corner Session Road , it’s fronting Malcolm Square.

4.BAGUIO NIGHT MARKET

Open Hours: 09:00 PM to 2:00 AM

Nearby Baguio Tourist Spots: Burnham Park, Baguio Cathedral, Oh My Gulay,

About 1,081 stalls open from 9:00 PM to 02:00 AM along Harrison Street, it is popularly known as Baguio Night Market and a key tourist attraction in Baguio City. It is a popular tourist attraction in the city where vendors sell old and new apparels, goods, decors, and food at reasonable prices. It was founded about a decade ago as a means for the traders who don’t have stalls to earn a living. But recently, officials of the city are thinking of relocating it, because of the heavy traffic it causes.

BAGUIO TOURIST SPOTS: Oh My Gulay Cafe

Oh My Gulay Restaurant is a famous tourist attraction at the heart of Baguio’s  situated on top of the La Azotea Building beside BDO along Session Road. This artsy restaurant is owned by the National Artist for Film – Kidlat Tahimik . The food here are vegetarian, and are just okay, nothing special, but the architecture, the artsy interior and the artworks exhibited in the restaurant are the main scene here. Most of the furniture, real plants and trees are also sprinkled around this quite small place, plus there’s also a uniquely-designed wooden ship here. Oh My Gulay displays a variety of paintings, mosaics, and sculptures created by local artists.

6. ILILIKHA ARTISTS VILLAGE

Another creation of  Kidlat Tahimik (Eric de Guia), a National Artist for Cinema is Ililikha Artist Village. Situated in Assuption Road. It’s also a restaurant, just like Oh My Gulay café. It’s a good place for photo op, but it’s reserved for customers only. So, please, order food here if you want to take photos. Ililikha Artist Village is made of assorted materials, crafted by many Ifugao artists and wood carvers.

The famed pink Romanesque revival-inspired church with twin spires and belfry is one of the top Baguio tourist spots.  Baguio Cathedral  stands proudly on Mount Mary Hill, formerly called Kampo.  This biggest church in the city is dedicated to Our Lady of the Atonement. It survived the bombing back in 1945 and served as an evacuation center during that time, thereby saving many lives.

8.FOOD TRIP

BAGUIO FOOD TRIP

Don’t miss trying out the artsy local restaurants while you are here, it’s definitely one of the top things to do in Baguio! It may not be known as a food haven like Pampanga or Cebu, etc., but since it’s a melting pot of cultures, you’ll be pleasantly surprised if you go on a food trip.  I’ll create a separate blogpost, probably in the future, but to give you an idea, some of the best known restaurants here includes: Good Taste,  Café by the Ruins, Maeve Café at Ilikha Artist Village, The Farmer’s Daughter, Grumpy Joe, Foggy Mountain Cookhouse, among others.

The longstanding Laperal House is believed to be a haunted house, that is why is it usually featured on popular TV shows.  Constructed in the 1930’s by Roberto Laperal, it is built of narra and yakal wood and exhibits a Victorian architectural flair.   It used to be a vacation house of the Laperal family until it was occupied by the Japanese soldiers during the World War II and used as a barracks. It is alleged that the warriors tortured many spies and raped many women here, leading to the rumors of the ghost sightings, who are purportedly the victims.

In 2007, Lucio Tan, a Filipino-Chinese business man purchased the residence and transformed it into a tourist spot in Baguio.  Six years later, Tan Yan Kee Foundation turned it into a Bamboo Foundation museum where bamboo and wood local artworks are displayed.

Nearby Baguio Tourist Spots: Cemetery of Negativism, Bell House, Bell Amphitheater, Tree Top Adventure Baguio

CAMP JOHN HAY Baguio

Camp John Hay is synonymous to Baguio and one of the best tourist spot in the pine city.  This place is surrounded by pine trees and serves as a forest watershed reservation. It was established by the Americans as a military reservation on a site owned by Ibaloi leader Mateo Cariño. During the World War II, the Japanese warplanes bombed the gates of Camp John Hay.  Later on, it became the headquarters of General Tomoyuki Yamashita during the Japanese occupation.  It is here where Yamashita surrendered. After the devastating war, Camp John Hay was transformed into an airbase by the American forces, until it was returned to the Philippines. Today, Camp John Hay is undoubtedly one of the most scenic tourist spots in Baguio.

TIP: Photo above was taken at  The Manor Hotel in Camp John Hay, it’s walking distance from Cemetery of Negativism.  If you are not staying there, you can just eat at the cafe or restaurant there and have your photo taken there.

13.CEMETERY OF NEGATIVISM

Entrance Fee: Part of the ₱75 – $3 (part of the Camp John Hay Historical Core Entrance Fee).

 CEMETERY OF NEGATIVISM

While you are in Camp John Hay, don’t miss the Cemetery of Negativism or the Lost Cemetery.  It’s a unique kind of cemetery as no dead person is buried here, instead, it’s meant to remind people to bury their negative traits.  It was established by the former commanding general John Hightower sometime in 1980. The cemetery is not really eerie, it is beautifully surrounded by towering pine trees and just walking distance to the age-old Bell House.

One of the reminders engraved on the stone marker here is:

“Negativism is man’s greatest self-imposed infliction, his most limiting factor, his heaviest factor.”

14.BELL HOUSE

How to get to Bell House: This is within Camp John Hay and walking distance to the Cemetery of Negativism. Ride the jeep bound for Scout Barrio, Loakan, or Kias-PMA.  Their jeepney terminal is situated at the east side of Burnham Park across Tiong-San Department Store, Harrison Road. Best to ride a taxi though, as it is more convenient. I paid less than ₱100 ($2) to get there by cab.

Nearby Baguio Tourist Spots:  Bell Amphitheater, Cemetery of Negativism, Camp John Hay, Tree Top Adventure Baguio

 BELL HOUSE

This historic house is inspired my American colonial architecture. It was named after General Franklin Bell who converted Camp John Hay into a military resort.  This modest building served as the residence of the Commanding General of the Philippines.

The Bell House is embraced by a garden, a pine forest, and the Bell Amphitheater, a beautifully manicured garden with concentric circles as steps.  Interestingly, these steps was designed using indigenous Ifugao terracing technology.

Don’t miss the totem pole with the heads of the figures of Admiral George Dewey, General Emilio Aguinaldo, Secretary John Milton Hay, William Cameron Forbes, President Theodore Roosevelt, General Franklin Bell, Lieutenant Colonel L.W.V Kennon, Mayor E.J Halsema, General Douglas MacArthur, and Major Angelito Hernandez, the men from Camp John Hay who shaped Baguio. This fascinating history lesson totem pole was created by Ernesto Dul-ang, it’s right before the entrance to the Bell Amphitheater.

This family-friendly place still attracts tourists to date despite being tagged as a tourist trap.  There’s an observation deck where tourists can soak in the view of the Itogon mining town hugged by pine-fringed massif, as well as a glimpse of Amburayan Valley. GOOD SHEPHERD BAGUIO

After a visit to Mines View Park, make time for Good shepherd Baguio nearby.   This convent is pretty popular for its delicious food products especially the best-selling Good Shepherd ube jam.   The production of this sought-after ube jam started sometime in 1976   when Sister Fidelas Atienza, as suggested by a friend, started making ube halaya similar to that of Tantamco’s, the original maker of ube halaya in Baguio.  As time goes by, she perfected it and student workers started helping stir the ube. Nowadays, they are said to use machines for easier processing, but the ube jam undoubtedly remains mouth-watering, and one of the best souvenirs from Baguio.

 BELL CHURCH Baguio

If you are headed to Stabosa Colorful House (Valley of Colors) or to La Trinidad Baguio, the jeep that you’ll take will pass by the Bell Church.  Thus, you can drop by at this distinctly Chinese Buddhist temple on your way there or on your way back to Baguio city.

The Bell Church is an old temple established in 1960 by the Chinese immigrants from Guangzhou (formerly Canton, China) headed by Ng Pee. It is situated in Brgy.Balili La Trinidad, Benguet, near the border of Baguio City.

I remember visiting Baguio over a decade ago, and I told myself I wanted to see something different, so I went to the Bell Church. When I first set foot on its ground, I feel like being transported to a different place. Everywhere I look it’s distinctly Chinese, the ornate pailou, the towering pagoda, the dragons, and the images of Buddhas and saints.

  21. STOBOSA COLORFUL HOUSES (Colors of Stobosa)

Nearby Baguio Tourist Spots: Bell Church

STABOSA Baguio

The site is now referred to as the Colors of Stobosa, known for its colorful houses, which is somehow inspired by the Favelas of Rio de Janiero in Brazil.  The solar artist Jordan Mang-osan led a team of Tam-Awan Vilage artists, including Ged Alangui, Jenny Lorenzo, and Clinton Aniversaryo with the help of the DOT Cordillera Region and Davis Paint to revitalize the area as part of the RevBloom (revitalize and bloom) campaign.  They painted almost all the houses (except for the original blue house) here as if it is one big mural as homage to what they believe as the area of origin of mountains of sunflowers and limestone rock formations.  The residents here hoped that through this, their livelihood will be boosted.

Situated in Pinsao Proper, Tamawan Village is the place to go in Baguio if you don’t have the luxury of time or resources to trek to the remote villages of the Cordillera.  This place was founded by Chanum Foundation Inc. sometime in 1998 as sort of a living museum where visitors can witness and experience a place reminiscent of a traditional Cordillera village.  Here, you’ll find around 7 Ifugao huts (namely, Bangaan Hut, Dukligan Hut, Anaba Hut, Nagor Hut, Batad Hut, and Kinakin Hut)  and 2 Kalinga houses from Bugnay and Luccong, made of indigenous materials such as cogon and pinewood. BAGUIO TOURIST SPOTS: BENCAB MUSEUM

Bencab Museum is owned by National Artist for Visual Arts – Benedicto Reyes Cabrera, a painter and print maker, who is dubbed as a master of contemporary Philippine arts. Bencab Museum, another must-see tourist attraction in Baguio, is situated in Asin Road with a breath-snatching view of the pine forest, garden, farm, and the surrounding mountains. This contemporary museum houses a collection of his works, and other Filipino contemporary artists. Here, you’ll also find varied indigenous crafts, sculptures, and arts of the Cordilleras.

Despite being born in Manila, Benedicto Cabrera has long been fascinated by Baguio and the Cordilleras, where he chose to live and nurture his artistic career. As per the official website of Bencab Museum, this place is committed to the promotion of the arts, and the preservation, conservation, and protection of the environment and the heritage of the Cordillera Region.

Below the museum, you will also find an artsy café, Café Isabel where you can enjoy some drinks and meals.  Take note that outside drinks and food aren’t allowed in the museum premises.

27.LOURDES GROTTO

How to get to Lourdes Grotto: Make your way to the jeepney terminal of jeepneys bound for Dominican Hill.  Ask the driver if it will pass by Lourdes Grotto, ride the jeepney, and tell the driver to drop you off at the foot of the stairs to Lourdes Grotto.

Nearby Baguio Tourist Spots: Diplomat Hotel

One of the popular tourist spots in Baguio is the Lourdes Grotto that was established in 1907 by the Spanish Jesuits.  It is said to be a replica of the miraculous Lourdes Grotto in France. Since it is standing on top of a pine-fringed Mary Hill, you need to climb 252 steps to reach it. Visitors usually light candles, say a prayer, and meditate when they reach the top.

28.MIRADOR HERITAGE PARK

This is probably the most popular new Baguio tourist spot now because it’s reminiscent of Japan – from the Bamboo Forest that’ll remind you of Arashiyama Forest in Kyoto to the red torrii. Mirador Heritage Park also has limestone rock gardens with glorious pine trees. Inside, you’ll find the Baguio Bamboo Eco-Park, an instagrammable spot at St.Francis Xavier Seminary. And of course, the Mirador Hill’s Place Peace Memorial flaunts a red torrii gate with a hanging bell that is actually a repurposed bomb dropped during the World War II. The view here is majestic especially during foggy days and during sunset. This new Baguio tourist attraction is situated in Mirador Jesuit Villa and Retreat House, the same area as the Lourdes Grotto.

  Entrance Fee: ₱50 -$1, Parking fee ₱25 ($0.50)

Open Hours: Daily 6:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Mirador Heritage Park), the Bamboo EcoPark opens at 8:00 AM.

How to get to Mirador Heritage Park: Take the jeepney en route to Dominican Hill. Fare is roughly ₱10. Alternatively, you may also take a taxi to Mirador Heritage Park, fare is about ₱70-₱100.

Nearby Baguio Tourist Spots: Lourdes Grotto, Diplomat Hotel

29. DIPLOMAT HOTEL

How to get to Diplomat Hotel:

Make your way to the jeepney terminal of jeepneys bound for Dominican Hill.  Ask the driver if it will pass by Diplomat Hotel, ride the jeepney, and tell the driver to drop you off at the path going to Diplomat Hotel.

Nearby Baguio Tourist Attraction: Lourdes Grotto

Another famous Baguio tourist spot is Diplomat Hotel or Dominican Hill Retreat House, known by many as a haunted building because of its tragic past.  It’s officially declared as a historic site in 2013.  The Diplomat Hotel was originally designed as a vacation house for the American Friars of Dominican Order, hence the name of the hill.  But upon completion in 1915, it was registered as a college called Collegio del Santissimo Rosario for tax-exemption purposes.  Two years later, due to lack of enrollees, it closed down and was returned back to the original plan – a vacation house.

During the World War II, the building was taken over by the Japanese soldiers, who made it as their barracks. It is said that they raped, tortured, and killed refugees, nuns, and priests.  Eventually, the Americans bombed a portion of the Diplomat Hotel and the Japanese soldiers committed suicide.

In 1973, the Diplomat Hill was acquired and turned into a hotel, managed by Baguio-based businessman Tony Agpaoa.  Unfortunately, he died due to a heart attack.

30.IFUGAO WOODCARVER’S VILLAGE

While tourists usually know Asin Road for Bencab Museum, sculpture lovers flock here for the Ifugao Woodcarver’s Village, also called Itogon Woodcarver’s Village.  Based on anecdotes, the history of Ifugao woodcarving traces its roots in the village of Hapao in Hungduan. But after the World War II, due to the increasing demands of foreign tourists to take home local handicrafts, five migrants from Hungduan and Banaue migrated here and brought some Ifugao woodcarvers. Thus, the Ifugao Woodcarver’s Village was born.  Most of the woodcarver’s shops are concentrated along Asin Road. Here, you can buy high quality Ifugao sculptures, wood craft, and other local handcrafted products.  The woodcarver’s can also made to order goods.

Interestingly, they also celebrate the Pa-ot Festival in Asin Road to celebrate the Ifugao woodcarvers’ skills in creating, as well as honor the old Asin Munpa-ot (carvers).  The residents here dance the streets during the festivity wearing their crafts, like spears, shields, and carved fertility statues.

31.BRIDAL VEILS FALLS

BAGUIO BRIDAL VEIL'S FALL

There’s a waterfall in Baguio? Yes. It’s found along Kennon Road, so if you’re using a private vehicle, you might want to drop by the Bridal Veils Falls.  It’s a few steps away from the highway via a metal  hanging bridge.  The waterfalls is quite tall, and makes for a great photo op.

 32 .LION’S HEAD (KENNON ROAD)

BAGUIO TOURIST SPOTS: BAGUIO LION'S HEAD

If you are using Kennon Road on your way to Baguio, you might notice the popular Lion’s Head, constructed by the Lions Club members of Baguio.  It is said that the limestone, which is naturally shaped like a lion’s head, was prepared by a group of engineers and was first carved by Reynaldo Lopez Nauyac, an Ifugao artist and woodcarver.  The statue itself has undergone several renovations over the years.

33.NORTHERN BLOSSOM PARK

If you have the luxury of time, you can make a side trip to Northern Blossom Park from Baguio, which is situated in Brgy. Sayangan in Atok, Benguet.  This place is peppered with colorful flowers rarely seen in most parts of the Philippines.  The view of the surrounding massif here will make you feel alive and appreciate nature more.

WHERE TO STAY IN BAGUIO

baguio hotel

Baguio is peppered with hotels for all types of budget. I recommend staying near Burnham Park or Session Road as it is near to most establishments.  But I also stayed once near at a hotel near Mines View Park, and the view  of the pine trees and the mountains there was calming (see picture above). If you are really on a tight budget, you can go for dorm rooms.

3 days and 2 nights Baguio itinerary

3 Days and 2 Nights Baguio Itinerary

Two weeks ago, I took my son on a trip to Baguio and we were there for three days and two nights. That duration was fair enough to see some of Baguio’s most popular tourist spots. But to experience Baguio like locals, a 3D2N vacation to the mountain city would not be enough. Baguio has so much to explore only locals know!

To make the most of that brief Baguio visit, we opted to explore Baguio like tourists. We planned our itinerary from random planning. While on the bus, we talked about where to go first once we get to Baguio. Over dinner and while strolling, we planned where to go on the next day. The itinerary we came up with was amazing! We got to see and experience the best of Baguio in our own time, at our own pace, and most of all, without breaking the wallet.

Day 1 11:15 AM – Left Pasay bound for Baguio City 4:00 PM – Checked in at Paladin Hotel. The hotel’s WIFI is unreliable but location-wise, the hotel is within walking distance to restaurants, and shops and 10 minute walk to Burnham Park. 4:30 PM – Early dinner at Central Park Restaurant

Century Park Restaurant

Central Park Restaurant is a restaurant in downtown Baguio serving Chinese cuisine. There are lots of choices on the menu. It’s a must-try. 5:15 PM – Burnham Park

Burnham Park

Located in the downtown area, Burnham Park is one of the most popular places in Baguio. Activities you can do here include biking, jogging, strolling, and boating. 7:00 PM – SM City Baguio SM City Baguio features a garden with a nice overlooking view. 9:00 PM – Baguio Night Market

Baguio Night Market

Beside Burnham Park along Harrison Road is a bustling Baguio Night Market. From clothes, accessories, kitchen wares, and souvenir items to name a few, Baguio Night Market is the place to go for thrift shopping. If your appetite is hankering for street food, this is the place to treat your cravings too. 11:45 PM – Back in the hotel Day 2 8:00 AM – Breakfast at the hotel 9:45 AM – The Mansion

The Mansion

The Mansion is the official summer palace of the President of the Philippines. The Mansion consists of an elegantly designed Spanish Colonial Revival building. Inside is a museum that features presidential memorabilia. Unfortunately, during our visit, the gate was closed and the guard mentioned that it has been closed to the public since the pandemic. 10:00 AM – Wright Park

Wright Park

Just at the front gate of The Mansion is Wright Park. At the park, don’t miss going horseback riding and picture taking with the lush scenery of pine trees in the background. 11:00 AM – Mines View Park

Mines View Park

From the observation deck, you’ll have an overlooking view of the mining town of Itogon, particularly the abandoned gold and copper mines of the Benguet Corporation. 12:00 Noon – Lemon and Olives Greek Taverna

Lemon and Olives

Serving authentic Greek cuisine, Lemon and Olives Greek Taverna is one of the many restaurants in Baguio with a great overlooking view while dining. But you have to arrive there as early as 10 AM, just so you can get the best seats. Arriving there a bit later, you will be seated far off from the balcony. 2:00 PM – Strawberry Farm

Strawberry Farm

Not to be missed is the Strawberry Farm. The farm is located in La Trinidad, just a few kilometers outside Baguio City. The best time to visit the Strawberry Farm is from March to April. During these months you can enjoy and experience strawberry picking. 3:30 PM – Short nap at the hotel 4:45 PM – Mirador Heritage and Eco-Park

food trip baguio 2023

Mirador Heritage and Eco-Park is located on top of Mirador Hill very close to Lourdes Grotto. The park features rock gardens, a bamboo forest, and the most photographed structure, the Torii. The best time to visit Mirador Heritage and Eco–Park is in the afternoon around sunset when you’ll have a breathtaking view of Baguio City. 8:00 PM – Late dinner at Century Park Restaurant

Day 3 8:00 AM – Breakfast at the hotel 10:00 AM – Check out Paladin Hotel 11:00 AM – Return trip back to Manila

To have visited Baguio gave me an impression of what the city truly is beyond photographs. Now I’m curious about what it’s like wandering Baguio’s off-the-beaten-path. Well, I may not know it unless I’ll visit the city of pines once more.

I saved money by shopping at Costco before a 2-week van trip. Here are the items I'm glad I bought.

  • I headed to Costco before a two-week trip in a 75-square-foot van.
  • I wasn't sure I'd find much for my tiny home considering the store sells items in bulk.
  • I left with a full cart, saved money, and had supplies like ravioli and hand warmers for the trip.

Insider Today

Tiny living and Costco seem like they shouldn't go together.

The wholesale store is known for selling items in bulk. Meanwhile, a campervan means limited space.

But I'm a sucker for a deal, so I headed to my nearest Costco outside Denver before a two-week trip in a 75-square-foot van .

Before embarking on a two-week road trip in a van, I headed to Costco to load up on groceries and other essential items.

food trip baguio 2023

The two-week road trip would take me through Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada, and Utah. I knew I needed to stock up on groceries, road snacks, and winter essentials like hand warmers.

While I wasn't sure Costco was the ideal store for van dwellers since it sells items in bulk, I figured I would start there and see what deals I could find.

To my surprise, I found I could easily fill an entire cart with meals, snacks, and goods that would come in handy for the trip.

I grabbed a cart and one of the first things I added was Liquid I.V. for $22.99.

food trip baguio 2023

I often bring packets of the electrolyte hydration mix Liquid I.V. on ski days, backpacking trips, and long days outdoors to keep me hydrated.

Since I had two weeks of outdoor adventures ahead of me, Liquid I.V. was a must.

Plus, 24 packets for $23 was a fair price. Later that week, I went on a Target run where 10 packets of Liquid I.V. were being sold for $18. On Liquid I.V.'s website , a 14-pack is sold for $25.

No matter where I am, eggs are an essential. Costco sells two dozen for $3.99.

food trip baguio 2023

It's hard to beat Costco's deal on eggs. I knew the moment I stepped inside the store that I'd grab a carton.

For $3.99, I could eat two eggs each morning of my trip (as long as I bought breakfast twice).

I wanted vegetarian dinner options for my nights at campsites, so I picked up two packages of ravioli for $11.99.

food trip baguio 2023

When mapping out the trip, I planned to get to my campsites before sunset to avoid driving on rough roads in the dark. This meant I would cook most dinners in my van.

When I arrived at Costco, I wanted to find easy, vegetarian meals I could cook.

Ravioli fit the bill. The two packages were enough for four meals, and the pasta was delicious.

I've had Trader Joe's butternut squash ravioli before, but Giovanni Rana is a new favorite. Plus, it's a great deal. A similar pasta by the same brand costs $7.24 for 18 ounces at Walmart. I got 32 ounces for $11.99.

I also found a vegetarian soup. Two jars cost $14.99.

food trip baguio 2023

As I wandered through the aisles, I stumbled upon a French pesto soup by the company Karine and Jeff .

The vegetarian soup cost $13.99 for two jars — enough for four meals. I saw one jar selling for about the same price as two online .

My favorite part, though, was that it was an ideal size for a van with just two jars.

In the produce area, I purchased salad kits for $6.99.

food trip baguio 2023

To pair with my ravioli and soup, I needed a salad. Thankfully, I found a pair of Taylor Farms salad kits for $6.99.

The kits I purchased came with salad, dressing, and toppings like sesame seeds, wontons, and nuts.

I'd save space by not needing to buy each ingredient separately, and I found that the kits — which contained both cabbage and romaine lettuce — stayed fresh in the fridge.

I also grabbed raspberries for $3.99.

food trip baguio 2023

I knew I'd pack snacks, but I wanted a few healthy options, too.

So I grabbed two 6-ounce containers of raspberries. It was a good deal. I usually pay about the same amount for just one container at my local grocery store.

Plus, I can eat that many raspberries in one sitting, so I knew they wouldn't go bad.

I stocked up on snacks like Dot's Homestyle Pretzels, which cost $9.99.

food trip baguio 2023

I absolutely love Dot's Homestyle Pretzels . The pretzel sticks are coated in a savory seasoning, and I can never get enough of them.

My main complaint is the price. Typically, a 16-ounce bag costs $7 at my local Target, which I think is a bit expensive.

So when I spotted a 32-ounce bag for only $9.99 at Costco, I was thrilled. The bag wouldn't be too big to store in the cabinets of my van, and I knew it was a snack I'd eat every last crumb of.

Most of the snacks I spotted were in packages that would be far too big for a van. Thankfully, some yogurt-covered almonds were the right size.

food trip baguio 2023

As I walked down Costco's aisles, I spotted enormous boxes of cereal and even bigger bags of chips.

I knew I wouldn't consume that many chips or that much cereal in two weeks, and, more importantly, I wouldn't have the space for these items.

However, I could definitely polish off a large bag of yogurt-covered almonds in two weeks.

The Sconza Thins' strawberry-coated almonds were an ideal size at 22 ounces. And I thought they were affordable at $4.97 for the bag.

I love Bobo's oat bars and figured these PB&J granola bars meant I wouldn't need to buy peanut butter, jelly, or bread.

food trip baguio 2023

Bobo's are easily my favorite granola bar. They're always in my hiking backpack, so I figured I'd pack some on my van trip, too.

I also thought the PB&J version would help me save space since I could skip packing peanut butter, jelly, and bread and have a snack version of the sandwich instead.

For $14.99, I grabbed 20 granola bars. I thought it was a steal since the same box costs $29.99 on Bobo's website .

I picked up an enormous bag of popcorn for $5.99, which turned out to be a mistake.

food trip baguio 2023

I love Boomchickapop's sweet-and-salty kettle corn, so, without thinking, I grabbed the enormous bag.

While it was a good deal at $5.99 for 25 ounces (a 7-ounce bag at Target costs $3.79), it was far too big to fit in the storage provided in my van.

The large bag couldn't be stuffed into any cabinet, so for the bulk of the trip, it joined me in the passenger seat.

If I were to do van life full-time, I'd have to buy smaller-sized snacks or skip out on items like this to save space.

I also purchased household necessities like Lysol wipes for $10.99.

food trip baguio 2023

Messes were bound to happen in my van, so I wanted to make sure I was stocked with cleaning supplies.

Instead of buying bottles of cleaners and rolls of paper towels, I opted for a four-pack of Lysol wipes. They came in handy when I needed to wipe down my van's countertops and clean my swivel table.

I only used one of the four containers during my two-week trip, but if I lived in a van full-time, the price would be worth finding the storage for all four. At Target, a single container costs $5.99 . I purchased a pack of four for $10.99.

Finally, I grabbed hand warmers for $13.99. I'd be traveling to some chilly places and knew I wanted something to keep me warm on hikes and walks.

food trip baguio 2023

I get cold quickly and easily, so disposable hand warmers are always with me on my travels to cooler places.

At Costco, one large box with 40 pairs of Heat Pro hand warmers cost me $13.99. A similar box with a few more pairs is listed for $34.90 on Amazon .

I left Costco with a full cart, savings, and some helpful items for my trip ahead.

food trip baguio 2023

I spent less than $200 on food and supplies for my van trip at Costco, and I estimate I saved close to $75 on my bulk purchases.

While I made some mistakes — like buying way too much popcorn — other items, like Liquid I.V. and hand warmers, came in handy throughout the trip.

If I decided to do van life full-time, I'm sure plenty of the items I purchased would become staples in my tiny home.
