Månedens rejseblog: To rejsende danskere, der vil smage på hele verden

Madagaskar - rejser

There are only 15 days remaining before the opening round of the 88th Masters at Augusta National Golf Club, the first major championship of the men's professional golf season.

While defending champion Jon Rahm is playing in the LIV Golf League, world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler has emerged as a heavy betting favorite after back-to-back victories on the PGA Tour. The 2022 Masters champion also knows his way around Augusta National pretty well.

With the PGA Tour headed to Texas for the last two stops before the Masters, starting with this week's Texas Children's Houston Open, it's a good time for the latest edition of the PGA Tour power rankings.

Of course, there's no surprise at No. 1. But during a season in which rookies and other lesser-known first-timers have won tournaments, you might have to look further down the list for superstars.

two danes on tour

1. Scottie Scheffler

The world No. 1 golfer is coming off back-to-back victories at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the Players Championship. He has two top-10 finishes at Memorial Park Golf Course, including a tie for second in 2022. He could become the first player since Dustin Johnson in 2017 to win in three straight starts. Rory McIlroy was the last to do it in three consecutive starts in stroke-play events (DJ's streak included the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play).

two danes on tour

2. Wyndham Clark

The reigning U.S. Open champion was runner-up to Scheffler in each of his past two starts, finishing 5 strokes back at the API and 1 back at the Players Championship -- after his birdie putt on the 72nd hole cruelly lipped out. He was ranked No. 189 in the Official World Golf Ranking when he played in the 2022 Texas Children's Houston Open. Now, he's one of the best players in the world, ranking third on tour in shots gained: total (1.869), eighth in tee to green (1.214) and 12th in putting (.656).

two danes on tour

3. Xander Schauffele

Schauffele couldn't hold a final-round lead at the Players Championship, but there's no question he has played spectacular golf lately. He has already piled up six top-10 finishes in eight starts this season, including top-5s in three of his past four. One of the top golfers in the world without a major championship victory, the former Olympic gold-medal winner will be riding a lot of momentum heading into the Masters, where he'll try to finally bag a big one.

two danes on tour

4. Hideki Matsuyama

The 2021 Masters champion picked up his ninth PGA Tour victory at the Genesis Invitational in February. He followed that with a tie for 12th at the API and a tie for sixth at the Players Championship. Despite battling a back injury again, Matsuyama has been great from tee to green and around the green, but he ranks 134th in strokes gained: putting (-.378).

two danes on tour

5. Ludvig Åberg

After picking up his first PGA Tour victory in his last start in 2023 at the RSM Classic, the former Texas Tech star hasn't slowed down. He has three top-10s in seven starts, including a runner-up finish at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. He hits it long and straight and doesn't make many mistakes. He'll make his first start in a major championship at the Masters.

two danes on tour

6. Will Zalatoris

Zalatoris missed the cut in his most recent start at the Players Championship, but his form has returned after he underwent back surgery in April that sidelined him for the rest of 2023. He had a pair of top-5s against loaded fields in signature events -- a tie for fourth at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and for second at the Genesis Invitational. His ballstriking is as good as ever; he ranks sixth in strokes gained: approach (.789).

two danes on tour

7. Rory McIlroy

McIlroy seemed poised for a fast start after he tied for second at the Dubai Invitational and won the Hero Dubai Desert Classic for a record fourth time on Jan. 21. That success hasn't carried over to the PGA Tour, however, as he has just one top-20 finish in five starts so far -- a tie for 19th at the Players Championship. He ranks second in strokes gained: off the tee (.938) but 119th in approach (-.176).

two danes on tour

8. Brian Harman

Harman's missed cut at last week's Valspar Championship might have been the result of a hangover from his narrow miss at the Players Championship. He finished 1 stroke behind Scheffler and had a good look for a tying birdie on the 72nd hole. The reigning Open Championship winner tied for 12th at the API.

two danes on tour

9. Nick Taylor

The Canadian picked up his fourth PGA Tour victory -- and his second straight in a playoff -- by outlasting Charley Hoffman in two extra holes at the WM Phoenix Open on Feb. 11. Taylor ranks 127th in strokes gained: off the tee (-.158) but makes up for it with stellar iron play (15th in approach) and putting (20th).

two danes on tour

10. Matthieu Pavon

On Jan. 27, the 31-year-old became the first golfer from France since 1907 to win on the PGA Tour when he defeated Nicolai Hojgaard by 1 stroke at the Farmers Insurance Open. He also tied for seventh at the Sony Open in Hawaii and was solo third at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.

two danes on tour

11. Sahith Theegala

Theegala seems close to winning something big. He has four top-10s in eight starts this season, including in each of his past two -- a tie for sixth at the API and for ninth at the Players Championship. He's fourth on tour in shots gained: total (1.446) and seventh in putting (.821).

two danes on tour

12. Sam Burns

Burns is tied with Theegala for third-most top-10 finishes on tour this season with four. He tied for third in the WM Phoenix Open and for 10th at the Genesis. He ranks 24th in shots gained: total (.875) and 23rd in putting (.542).

two danes on tour

13. Cameron Young

Young narrowly missed out on picking up his elusive first PGA Tour victory again last week, finishing 2 strokes behind Peter Malnati at the Valspar Championship. It was Young's seventh runner-up finish in 60 tour starts, the most of any player without a victory dating back to 1970, according to ESPN Stats & Information. Young is too talented not to end the drought at some point.

two danes on tour

14. Patrick Cantlay

The eight-time PGA Tour winner's results have been hit or miss so far this season. He tied for 11th at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and for fourth at the Genesis. Cantlay had four other finishes outside the top 35. His inconsistent play off the tee and iron play are to blame -- he ranks 143rd in strokes gained: approach (-.359) and 135th in driving accuracy (55.2% fairways hit).

two danes on tour

15. Viktor Hovland

The reigning FedEx Cup champion, who looked ready to challenge Scheffler for world No. 1 at the end of last season, has limped through the first three months of 2024 with an average finish of 39.4 in five starts. He had just one top-20 -- a tie for 19th at the Genesis Invitational. Hovland has been frustrated with his swing and is working with a new coach, Grant Waite. His chipping woes have reemerged as well.

two danes on tour

16. Jake Knapp

A nightclub bouncer just three years ago, Knapp became the third PGA Tour rookie to win this season when he captured the Mexico Open at Vidanta on Feb. 25. The former UCLA golfer has three top-5 finishes in 12 starts.

two danes on tour

17. Chris Kirk

Kirk has cooled off a bit after capturing his sixth PGA Tour victory at the season-opening Sentry in Hawaii in January. It was his second win in 11 months after he came out on top at the Honda Classic in February 2023. He's 140th in strokes gained: putting (-.404) but has been more than solid off the tee and on approach.

two danes on tour

18. Justin Thomas

JT's struggles seemed to be in the rearview mirror after he had four top-12 finishes in his first five starts this season. He took a couple of steps back with missed cuts at the Genesis Invitational and Players Championship and a tie for 64th at the Valspar Championship. Still, his form seems headed in the right direction again.

two danes on tour

19. Shane Lowry

After a slow start to 2024, Lowry has rebounded with three consecutive top-20 finishes, including a tie for fourth at the Cognizant Classic and a solo third at the API. Lowry announced this week that he'll play with McIlroy in next month's Zurich Classic of New Orleans team event.

two danes on tour

20. Matt Fitzpatrick

After a so-so start to the 2024 season, Fitzpatrick seems close to putting everything together after a solo-fifth finish at the Players Championship. He had missed cuts at the Sony Open, Genesis Invitational and API before he bounced back at TPC Sawgrass. He is driving the ball better off the tee after removing a 4-gram weight from the grip of the club. Fitzpatrick told PGATour.com that he forgot the weight was even there.

two danes on tour

21. Max Homa

Homa came out of the gates well this season, tying for 14th at the Sentry and 13th at the Farmers Insurance Open. He also tied for eighth at the API. Homa has been wildly inconsistent off the tee, ranking 150th in driving accuracy (54.2%) and 115th in strokes gained: off the tee (-.117).

two danes on tour

22. Byeong Hun An

The South Korean golfer lost to Grayson Murray in a playoff at the Sony Open in Hawaii and has played consistently well since. He has three top-10s and five top-25s with only one missed cut in eight starts. After losing his PGA Tour card in 2021, he has climbed back to No. 42 in the Official World Golf Ranking.

two danes on tour

23. Jason Day

The former world No. 1 golfer played some of his best golf at the tour's biggest stops this season. He had three top-10s against elite fields at signature events, tying for 10th at the Sentry, for sixth at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and had a solo ninth at the Genesis. He has finished 16th or better in two of his three starts at Memorial Park, where his elite short game is a weapon.

two danes on tour

24. Tom Hoge

Hoge has been a model of consistency this season, making the cut in nine of 10 starts with a pair of top-10 finishes. He performed well on the West Coast swing with a tie for sixth at Pebble Beach and solo eighth at the Genesis. His iron play continues to be among the best on tour -- he ranks second in shots gained: approach (1.234) and proximity (34 feet, 7 inches).

two danes on tour

25. Peter Malnati

Bucket hats off to the PGA Tour policy board director, who picked up his second career PGA Tour victory -- and his first in 3,058 days -- at the Valspar Championship. He earned a two-year exemption, his first invitation to the Masters and a spot in the remaining four signature events of the season. He jumped from 184th to 65th in the world after the win.

Just missed the top 25: Harris English , Tommy Fleetwood , Austin Eckroat , Jordan Spieth , Collin Morikawa , Christiaan Bezuidenhout , J.T. Poston , Erik van Rooyen , Eric Cole , Grayson Murray, Min Woo Lee

Five things to Know About the Ford Championship presented by KCC

Lindsey weaver-wright making first start in arizona since maternity leave, running half marathon.

  • Tournament News

two danes on tour

Just two events separate the LPGA Tour’s finest from the season’s first major, The Chevron Championship. The Ford Championship presented by KCC represents not only an opportunity for players to secure their spot in the field in the major championship but is also a chance for players to get their game in peak form ahead of the major season. And the game’s best are seizing the moment, with a stacked field poised to compete at Seville Golf and Country Club for a $2.25 million purse. Here’s a closer look at what you need to know about the first edition of the Ford Championship.

The LPGA Returns to Arizona

This week’s stop in Arizona is far from the first time the LPGA Tour has competed in the Grand Canyon State, where the Tour has a long and storied history that dates back to its inception in 1950. And while the Tour has made more than 70 visits to the state, what’s new this season is the trip to Seville Golf and Country Club, which is hosting the inaugural playing of the Ford Championship. The course opened in 2000 and is located roughly 45 minutes southeast of downtown Phoenix, featuring an 18-hole layout designed by architect Gary Panks. The course will play to a par of 72 at 6,734 yards and has the potential for thrilling, final-round drama with an island green on its 17th hole. Canadian and longtime LPGA Tour member Alena Sharp is a member of the club.

An impressive field of 144 players, including the top five in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings, is slated to compete at the Ford Championship, where Nelly Korda, who returned to the top of the world rankings with her victory last week in California, headlines the field. She unseated fellow American, Lilia Vu, at the top of the rankings as the two-time major champion has had a challenging start to the 2024 season. Through her first five starts of the year, Vu has recorded just one top-10 finish and is coming off a tie for 37th last week at Palos Verdes Golf Club. She’s joined in the field by top-ranked stars Celine Boutier, Ruoning Yin and Minjee Lee. Rose Zhang is also in the field for the second straight week after finishing in a tie for 22nd in California, and Lexi Thompson is slated to tee it up in Arizona after missing the cut last week.

Ryann O’Toole, who lost in a playoff to Korda on Sunday, will be looking to build on the momentum she found in her home state after picking up her first career runner-up finish on the LPGA Tour. Alison Lee, who narrowly missed out on getting into the playoff with O’Toole and Korda, settled for a tie for third for her fifth top-three finish in her last six worldwide starts dating back to 2023. Her close call on Sunday was her 23rd career top-10 result, and Lee will continue working towards that first LPGA title when she competes this week in Arizona.

Nelly Back on Top

With a health scare and injury well in the rearview mirror, Nelly Korda looks to be back to the winning ways that lifted her to the top of the women’s game in 2021. Korda picked up her second win in three starts this season on the LPGA Tour with her playoff victory on Sunday, which was her 10th career Tour title. With her wins at both the LPGA Drive On Championship and FIR HILLS SERI PAK Championship, Korda becomes the first multiple champion this season and an early front-runner for the season’s biggest honors, along with reascending to world No.1. It’s the sixth time since that breakout season in 2021 that she has held the No. 1 spot in the world, and as Korda tees it up this week in Arizona, she’ll be chasing a third consecutive victory, which would be a first for the 25-year old, who has been an LPGA Tour member since 2017.

Ko’s Chase Continues

The LPGA Tour Hall of Fame watch is back on as Lydia Ko is poised to compete in the Ford Championship presented by KCC. Ko, who is making her fifth start of the season, jumped into HOF-watch mode with her season-opening victory at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, which put her within one point of getting into the Hall. Ko, who has 26 of the necessary 27 points, has already come close to qualifying since her win in January as she suffered a playoff loss to Korda at the LPGA Drive On Championship, and after holding a share of the 54-hole lead at the Blue Bay LPGA, faded to a tie for fourth.

Kerr Returns

Lydia Ko isn’t the only player on Tour who is close to qualifying for the LPGA Tour Hall of Fame. Cristie Kerr has 20 career victories, the most recent of which came in 2017 and two of which are major titles, earning Kerr 22 points towards Hall of Fame qualification. At the Ford Championship, Kerr is making her season debut and is competing for the first time since the CPKC Women’s Open in August 2023. Kerr, who is a mother of two, also manages her own wine company, Kerr Cellars, both of which have kept her busy during her time away from the Tour.

NEWS... BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

Rebecca Kenna thankful for testing two years on tour: ‘It’s helped me as a person and a player’

BetVictor World Mixed Doubles Championship - Day 2

Rebecca Kenna feels a better player and person after two testing years on the World Snooker Tour, as she looks to finish her first stint as a professional in style, starting at the World Mixed Doubles this weekend.

Kenna reached the final of the Mixed Doubles alongside Mark Selby in the event’s first edition last season, losing out to Neil Robertson and Mink Nutcharut.

It was a highlight of two difficult seasons as a professional, but in the spotlight of playing with the top four players on the planet, the nerves meant Kenna couldn’t really enjoy it.

Returning this week as she teams with Mark Allen in Manchester, she is determined to avoid the same happening again.

‘I’m very excited this time round. I was a lot more nervous last time but I’m more settled now,’ Kenna told Metro.co.uk . ‘It was right at the start of my journey on tour, so it was a bit overwhelming last time, I’m just looking forward to it this time.

‘It was such a great event last time and everyone seemed to like it and it’s one of the last big events for me.’

Asked if she managed to enjoy it at all last season, she said: ‘I don’t think I did, you know.

BetVictor World Mixed Doubles Championship - Day 2

‘I enjoyed a lot of the things about it and obviously getting to the final, but I was just really low on confidence. I think I didn’t really play my normal attacking game, I was just so in awe of everyone around me I was worried about pushing the boat out.

‘Now I’ve learned over time you’ve got to play your own game. I’m more confident as a player now so hopefully I’ll be able to go out and attack more and feel more confident in my own shot selections.’

With no wins in singles matches, it has certainly being a trying time on tour for the 35-year-old, but she is taking the positives, of which she believes there have been plenty.

Even from the grim negativity she has received through social media, Kenna feels she has grown as a person by leaning to deal with it.

‘Having a good two years on tour has helped my self confidence,’ she said. ‘I remember playing Shaun Murphy [at the British Open], I wasn’t feeling confident at all but I played quite well, to play well on the big stage against one of the best players in the world, despite feeling so bad in my head, that really helped my self confidence.

‘A lot of people think I’d have taken nothing from my stint on tour, but it’s such a hard task for any rookie, never mind me with the age I came into the game and level of play I was at. But it’s definitely helped me as a person and player, dealing stuff on the mental side, with social media, it’s helped me 100 per cent.’

2023 Cazoo British Open - Day 1

The Yorkshire cueist has chosen to step back from social media for the most part, describing the negativity as a ‘strain’ to deal with.

‘I’ve had to step away mostly, learn not to respond and take things to heart, just keep away from the negatives and focus on the positives,’ she said. ‘It has been a strain, but I think it’s helped me grow as a person.

‘I have a really good Facebook page where I get a lot of positive messages but then the bad things break your heart a bit, you’ve just got to try and ignore them and be as positive as you can yourself.’

Kenna believes there are still significant barriers to break down in her home country as snooker looks to grow among the female population, seeing more progress elsewhere in the world.

‘Worldwide I think participation is growing, I just think England is a bit further back. I think other countries get more support with the women’s game,’ she said.

‘In China at the World Championship it was amazing, we all got treated like professionals out there. In Thailand, Hong Kong, they’re really for women’s snooker, it’s harder to see that in England, there’s a lot of negativity here.

‘Even from some women players, with us being on tour, which is mind-boggling, it’s a shame but I think eventually it will grow worldwide.

‘I think some women players want their own separate professional tour, which would be amazing but it’s not going to happen, so we can’t just moan about the current situation because we want something else to happen, we’ve got to make the most of the situation we’ve got to grow the women’s game.’

The Women’s World Championship in Dongguan earlier this month was a sign of the status of the game in China, with the event on another level to recent editions, in an impressive arena, played in front of a big crowd.

‘It was two or three steps up, easily,’ said Kenna. ‘It felt on par with a professional WST event. The branding, the cars, players lounge, the sponsors, we were on billboards, big banners, all the staff there to help, it was amazing. That’s now inspired a lot of the women players to keep pushing on the tour because it is getting bigger and better.’

20-year-old Chinese star Bai Yulu won the tournament, edging out Mink 6-5 in the final and Kenna believes she was the ideal winner for growth of the sport.

‘I think that’s a good thing she’s won it,’ she said. ‘The sponsors and the money are in China, so hopefully that will keep coming and will grow the women’s tour, I think that will improve massively.

‘It’s a great thing, hopefully like when Ding [Junhui] emerged, but for the women’s game.’

Kenna will play the World Mixed Doubles and then the World Championship qualifiers, needing a run to the Crucible to stay on tour, but if she does drop off then she is looking forward to a return to the women’s and amateur circuits and focussing on coaching.

‘I’m happy to play on the women’s tour, my ambition when I first joined was to be women’s world champion, it was never to be a professional on the World Snooker Tour,’ she explained. ‘I’ve enjoyed my stint on tour but I’m happy to be an amateur and come out the limelight a bit, I think I’ll enjoy it.

‘I can go back into coaching, helping others, growing my business ( Cue Sports Yorkshire ), work hard on the amateur circuit and try and become women’s world champion.

‘It would be amazing if me and Mark could win it this weekend. I’ve got two big events left, Mixed Doubles and World qualifiers so I’m hoping for some good results. Whatever happens I’ve enjoyed my stint on tour and thankful for the opportunity. I’m looking forward to this weekend and it would be great if we could lift the trophy.’

Kenna, sponsored by Ox Billiards & Keighley Kia , and Allen get the World Mixed Doubles underway at 1pm on Saturday against Judd Trump and Baipat Siripaporn.

Drake makes up canceled Nashville tour dates with two Bridgestone Arena shows in 2024

two danes on tour

Drake has announced a 2024 "It's All A Blur - Big As The What?" Tour, an extension of his 2023 tour, that will bring him to Nashville for two evenings. After postponing his Nashville shows twice this year , the rap scene's Certified Lover Boy will perform at Bridgestone Arena on Wednesday, Feb. 7 and Thursday, Feb. 8 next year.

Instead of his originally planned dates with 21 Savage, J. Cole will be joining Drake in Nashville and on the 2024 leg of the tour.

A Grammy Award-winning hip-hop and rap artist, Drake released his eighth studio album "For All The Dogs" in October of this year, which included hit song "Slime You Out" with R&B singer SZA. Other runaways from his new album included "IDGAF" (feat. Yeat), Jimmy Cooks (feat. 21 Savage) and "First Person Shooter" with his 2024 touring partner, J. Cole.

The tour will kick off with two nights of shows in Denver, CO, on Jan. 18 and 19, and then will take the two rappers to cities including Oklahoma City, New Orleans, St. Louis, Columbus, Memphis and Nashville.

Why did Drake cancel his Nashville shows in 2023?

The tour announcement comes on the heels of Drake postponing two performances in Nashville in September. This was the second time Drake had canceled his Nashville dates, with promises of making up the shows in the future.

Drake was originally scheduled to perform on June 19 , but in April decided to reschedule the show for October 2. Drake then added a second tour stop in Nashville to his roster, originally planning on two evenings of shows at Bridgestone Arena on Oct. 1 and 2.

Nashville wasn't the only city to see rescheduling, with Memphis's Aug. 6 concert completely canceled a few days before the show. Luckily, the 2024 tour will also stop in Memphis at the FedExForum on March 5.

Other cities, including New Orleans, LA, Denver, CO and Columbus, OH experienced postponed shows.

Why did Drake postpone his Nashville shows twice?

Amid the multiple rounds of rescheduling from Drake and his crew, fans wondered about the reasons behind the cancellations.

Upon the postponement of his Sept. 8 show in Denver, Ticketmaster emailed attendees, saying, “due to the distance the road crew has to travel along with the magnitude of the production of the Drake concert, it is logistically impossible to bring the full experience of the show to Denver this September,” according to The Denver Post .

Tickets for the Denver canceled shows as part of the original "It's All A Blur" tour were running for up to $3,700.

When Drake canceled two shows in Miami, FL in October, Drake posted on Instagram that he was too ill to perform.

It is unclear as to why the Nashville shows have seen two rounds of postponements.

How do I buy tickets for Drake's rescheduled Nashville shows?

Tickets will be available starting with a Cash App Card presale beginning Wednesday, Nov. 15.

The general sale will begin Friday, Nov. 17 starting at 11 a.m. local time on drakerelated.com.

2024 Masters odds: Scottie Scheffler remains massive favorite, but there's value in former major champions

Just two weeks until the world's best take on augusta national, and scheffler remains in pole position.

LIV Golf Invitational - Miami - Day One

With the 2024 Masters just two weeks away, it's a good time to look at the odds leading into the event. There are some fascinating numbers right now along with a few on the oddsboard that just do not make any sense whatsoever.

There is some level of predictability with Augusta National given it's the only major championship held at the same course every year, but based on how drastically players' scores can differ from one year to the next, there's no telling what will happen or who will slip on the green jacket in April.

The last two champions, Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm, were their respective year's hottest golfers at the time of their victories. And if that trend holds, it's possible Scheffler picks up his second green jacket in a three-year span. At least that's what the odds tell us is most likely to happen.

Let's break the oddsboard down into a few different categories and evaluate the players in each. Keep in mind that odds do not only imply who is most likely to win, they take into account who is receiving the most action from bettors.

The favorite

  • Scottie Scheffler: 9/2

Whew ... this is getting close to a Tiger Woods-like number. It's difficult for me to remember anyone who was less than 5-1 odds for a major championship in recent years. It may have happened; I just don't remember it happening.

It's a deserved number, both from a performance and popularity standpoint. Scheffler is attempting to win his third consecutive tournament this week at the Houston Open, and he has thrived at Augusta National in recent years. He leads the world in strokes gained from tee to green, on approach and overall this year, and he leads everyone in the Masters field in strokes gained approach and from tee to green over the last three years (since stats have been kept). If Scheffler's name was "Spieth" or "McIlroy," these odds would probably be even lower.

Other favorites

  • Rory McIlroy: 10-1
  • Jon Rahm: 12-1

It's difficult to tell with Rahm because the numbers are more opaque on LIV Golf, but McIlroy has been a bit all over the place (for him) so far this season. I would have these flipped. Still, both are probably deserving at these numbers as they're two of the greatest modern scorers at Augusta National.

Semi favorites

  • Will Zalatoris: 18-1
  • Viktor Hovland: 20-1
  • Jordan Spieth: 20-1
  • Brooks Koepka: 20-1
  • Xander Schauffele: 22-1
  • Joaquin Niemann: 22-1
  • Ludvig Aberg: 22-1

This is where it starts to get a little crazy to me. I have no problem with Zalatoris at 18-1. He's been incredible at Augusta National with a runner up and a T6 in his career. But Koepka at 20-1, barely ahead of Schauffele, Niemann and ... first-timer Ludvig Aberg? Did Koepka not lead after three days here last year? Does he not have a pair of runner-up finishes at Augusta? Is he not a five-time major winner ? Is he not the reigning PGA champion? That 20-1 number seems so bizarre when compared with everyone else surrounding him.

Just a bit outside

  • Patrick Cantlay: 25-1
  • Justin Thomas: 25-1
  • Hideki Matsuyama: 25-1
  • Cameron Smith: 28-1
  • Wyndham Clark: 28-1

I know Clark is a first-timer at the Masters, but he's a proven major winner and would have gone back to back at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and Players Championship if not for Scheffler. That 28-1 number seems way too high.

Longer shots

  • Dustin Johnson: 35-1
  • Collin Morikawa: 35-1
  • Shane Lowry: 40-1
  • Max Homa: 40-1
  • Matt Fitzpatrick: 40-1
  • Jason Day: 40-1
  • Cameron Young: 40-1
  • Bryson DeChambeau: 40-1
  • Tony Finau: 45-1
  • Sam Burns: 45-1

There is so much value. A pair of two-time major winners at 35-1, plus Jason Day (historically excellent at Augusta and playing good golf right now) at 40-1, Cameron Young (top 10 at the Masters last year), DeChambeau (a U.S. Open champion) and Finau (three top 10s at the Masters)? That's some solid value a good ways down the board.

These will change over the next few weeks, but everything revolves around Scheffler. If he putts well, he'll likely win. Because the odds are structured as such, you can find a ton of value with guys who could win if he doesn't putt well. Koepka (20-1), Matsuyama (25-1), Clark (28-1) and Young (40-1) are currently those guys to me.

Bob Dylan is back in Memphis for two shows at the Orpheum: 5 things to know before you go

two danes on tour

At 82, Bob Dylan — Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Famer, 10-time Grammy winner, Pulitzer and Nobel prize recipient and international music icon — has nothing left to prove, yet he continues to drive himself with an unusual sense of purpose.

Dylan has unofficially been on what’s known as his “Never Ending Tour” since 1988. Officially, he’s been out in support of his 2020 album "Rough & Rowdy Ways" since late 2021. Last year, Dylan played shows across Europe, Japan and North America. This year, kicked off the latest leg of his tour in early March with a series of shows in Florida, before moving on to dates in North Carolina, Kentucky and Tennessee.

This week Dylan arrives in Memphis for a much anticipated two-night stand at Downtown’s venerable Orpheum, on Friday and Saturday. Here are five things to know ahead of this week's shows.

Bob Dylan's love for Memphis

A serious student of American music and early rock ‘n’ roll, Dylan has always paid homage to the great artists and innovators who came from Memphis — including making pilgrimages to Elvis Presley’s old haunts like Humes High School or working at legendary local studios like Phillips Recording Service.

Although Dylan rarely conducts interview anymore, in 2015 he gave a long and deeply felt speech when he was honored as “Person of the Year” by the Grammys' MusiCares Foundation. While most of the coverage of the speech focused on Dylan’s disses — he took shots at country music legends like Merle Haggard and Tom T. Hall, as well rock 'n' roll pioneers Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, and Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun — he was also full of praise for a group of Memphis icons, specifically the alumni of his beloved Sun Records .

Dylan was especially eloquent in discussing Sun founder Sam Phillips. He noted that Phillips’ work with the label “shook the very essence of humanity. Revolution in style and scope. Heavy shape and color. Radical to the bone. Songs that cut you to the bone. Renegades in all degrees, doing songs that would never decay, and still resound to this day.”

Dylan also remembered his longtime pal and former Sun artist Johnny Cash as “a giant of a man, the Man in Black. And I’ll always cherish the friendship we had until the day there is no more days.”

But Dylan’s strongest praise was saved for Sun Records’ underdog, Billy Lee Riley. Riley, who died in 2009 at age 75, is perhaps best known for his classic 1957 single, “Flyin’ Saucers Rock & Roll” — a rockabilly number inspired by the era’s U.F.O. mania — which birthed the name of his band, the Little Green Men.

That year, Riley also released the equally memorable rave-up “Red Hot.” In his MusicCares speech Dylan spoke at great length of his first exposure to and eventual friendship with Riley. “He was a hero of mine,” Dylan said. “I’d heard ‘Red Hot.’ I must have been only 15 or 16 when I did, and it’s impressed me to this day. I never grow tired of listening to it.”

Bob Dylan's Memphis concert legacy

Dylan’s love for Memphis can also be measured in how often he has performed in the Bluff City. He's been an especially frequent visitor to the Mid-South over the last quarter century.

In 1999, the Memphis venues visited by Dylan ranged in size from the New Daisy theater on Beale Street to the Pyramid arena (on a double bill with Paul Simon). In 2005 and 2013, he played at AutoZone Park. In 1997 and 2001, Dylan appeared at Memphis in May’s Beale Street Musical Festival. Dylan also played regional dates at BancorpSouth Center in Tupelo in 2002 and the former Pringles Park in Jackson, Tennessee, in 2004.

RIVERBEAT MUSIC FESTIVAL LINEUP: Jelly Roll, Fugees and Killer Mike among the performers

Just like this year, in 2006, Dylan played back-to-back shows at Downtown’s Orpheum. It would be nearly a decade before he returned to the venue in 2015. In early 2020, Dylan had a summer show on the books for Southaven’s BankPlus Amphitheater, a concert that was postponed and ultimately canceled in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

He would eventually make it to Memphis in 2022 as part of the "Rough & Rowdy Ways" tour, again appearing at the Orpheum in April of that year, marking his most recent local stop.

Rough & Rowdy Ways tour setlists and reviews

Casual fans might expect Dylan to be like most of his veteran rock ‘n’ roll peers and play the expected greatest hits set. But Dylan, being Dylan, does nothing of the kind. The setlists on the Rough & Rowdy Ways tour have focused extensively on the material from his most recent album, as well as a few deep cuts from his catalog, the odd “hit,” and occasional often unexpected cover.

The best resource for Dylan these days is Ray Padgett’s Flagging Down the Double E’s . Padgett who published 2023’s essential collection, “Pledging My Time: Conversations with Bob Dylan Band Members,” runs his Dylan-dedicated substack/newsletter, which features the author and occasional guest reviewers covering Dylan’s concerts, among other related matters (be sure check Padgett’s 50th anniversary deep dive into Dylan and The Band’s 1974 Memphis show).

The most recent review, done by musician Jon Wurster (Superchunk, Mountain Goats), captured the contrarian spirit of Dylan's current tour, offering a preview of what fans in Memphis can expect.

Wurster, who witnessed a pair of Dylan dates in North Carolina earlier this month, noted that “there’s a lot of legacy artists out there on the road doing what are essentially crowd-pleasing, hit-packed victory laps,” he wrote. “This is what makes Dylan so enjoyable for so many of us: He knows exactly what people want, and it appears to mean absolutely nothing to him. We forget that Dylan has a handful of genuine hit songs in his quiver. And so does Dylan.”

Wurster added that, “these current concerts feature almost all of his most recent album, and a handful of album tracks and covers a casual listener wouldn’t recognize. It’s almost diabolical when you think about it. But that unique mix of free spirit survivor and flagrant contrarian is what’s so inspiring about Dylan. Most people his age are in the ground, yet he’s out there giving some of the best, weirdest performances of his career. It’s kind of the most punk thing anyone has ever done.”

UPCOMING CONCERTS: The War and Treaty, Lyle Lovett, Valerie June set for GPAC's 30th season

A Bluff City special?

Last year, during his tour, Dylan was customizing the covers in his set, playing tunes with a local flavor or connection unique to each market. So far this year, Dylan hasn’t been as consistent or thematic with his cover songs — which have ranged from the Jimmy Rogers blues classic “Walking By Myself” to Chuck Berry’s “Roll Over Beethoven.”

However, Memphis should provide ample inspiration for Dylan to dig deeper and maybe break out something special. He’s already been playing Johnny Cash’s “Big River” — which would certainly make sense at the Orpheum — or he could pull out a different surprise, perhaps an old Sun or Meteor classic, a Riley chestnut, or something else appropriate to the environs.

Good seats remain for Bob Dylan's Memphis shows

Somewhat surprisingly — given his record of sold-out shows in town — a fair amount of seats are still available for both of Dylan’s Orpheum concerts.

A few VIP “Gold Hot Seat” packages — which includes premium seating, a commemorative ticket and exclusive merch package — are still available, but they will cost you, as those run just over $600 each.

General seating, meanwhile, offers a few more reasonably priced options for both shows. Tickets in the middle of the orchestra sections can be had for $92 per seat. Just a handful of mezzanine seats remain, which also run $92 a pop. More plentiful options in the various balcony sections and upper gallery areas are also available, starting at $71.

Parkering i Tromsø

(Pris ca. 2650 danske kr for 3 nætter for 4 personer i 2018)

(Pris ca. 5600 danske kr for 4 nætter for 4 personer i 2019)

Airbnb lejlighed i Tromsø

Quality Saga Hotel

Derefter får du overlevelsesdragt ud over alt dit overtøj, og så bliver du sat over i ribbåden.

Husk at booke ribbåd i god tid.

Hovedgaden i Tromsø.

Ishavskatedralen

Ishavskatedralen i Tromsø.

At besøge kirken koster 50 kr.

Museer i Tromsø

Tromsø er desuden berømt for at have den nordligste botaniske have i verden.

Hej 😊 Jeg overvejer at besøge Tromsø januar 20. ….men bedst ift nordlys i marts ?

Venlig hilsen Anette

Glade hilsner Anne Marie

Mange tak for dit svar.

mange hilsner Julie

Mange hilsner Lotte

Vh. Anne Marie

Anne Kosack Laisen says:

Vh. Anne Marie

Tusind tak for svar 🙂

Venlig hilsen Anne Marie

Hej! sikken god blog.

Mange hilsner Victoria

Hej Victoria Tak for din hilsen.

Vh. Anne Marie

Odds Outlook: Scottie Scheffler opens as biggest betting favorite on PGA TOUR in nearly a year

Golfbet News

Change Text Size

After a month and four events played in Florida, the PGA TOUR is off to Texas for two weeks before the first major of the season.

The first stop in the Lone Star State is Memorial Park Golf Course in Houston for the Texas Children’s Houston Open. Red-hot Scottie Scheffler (+300 at BetMGM Sportsbook) heads to the municipal track to make it three in a row on TOUR, and he does so as a prohibitive favorite. His +300 opening odds are the shortest for a pre-tournament favorite since last year’s Mexico Open at Vidanta when Jon Rahm opened at +240 before finishing runner-up to Tony Finau.

Winning THE PLAYERS Championship and the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard in his last two starts, it will take something special to knock off Scheffler in his home state. Returning to March after a four-year stint in the fall, the Texas Children's Houston Open will feature the two-time reigning PLAYERS Champion for the fourth consecutive edition. Posting 62 in Round 2 here in 2021, the Dallas resident couldn’t close the deal with the 54-hole lead and finished T2. The most recent edition played in the fall of 2022, saw him collect T9 and make the cut for the third consecutive time. The only multiple-winner in 2024, he leads the TOUR in too many categories to count and is the clear favorite anytime he tees it up.

The man who has finished second to Scheffler the last two times he’s teed it up will be looking to score the knock-out punch. Wyndham Clark (+1400) posted four rounds in the red at Bay Hill Club & Lodge during the second stop of the Florida Swing, but it was only good enough for second place, five shots behind the champion Scheffler. Sharing the lead in his next event at THE PLAYERS Championship, he led after 18 holes and by four shots after 36 holes. The reigning U.S. Open champion looked to be on his way back to the winner’s circle. But sitting one off the 54-hole lead, a violent lip-out on the 72nd hole cost him a chance to force a playoff with Scheffler for the title. The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am champion from February has cashed first or second in three of his last five on TOUR.

Breaking a fantastic run of T4-T2-T13 with a missed cut at TPC Sawgrass, the now-healthy Will Zalatoris (+1800) will look to get back on track with the season’s first major in a fortnight. A streak of 17 rounds of 72 or better crashed with 73-75 at THE PLAYERS. Memorial Park plays to Par-70 and tips at 7,435 yards and that should play into the strength of his tee-to-green game. Ranking No. 6 in SG: Approach the Green, he will have plenty of ammunition in his bag playing this track for the first time.

The last time Memorial Park hosted the event was in November of 2022 and Tony Finau (+2000) ran away from the fall field. The big hitter tied the course record of 62 in Round 2 and led by four heading into the final round on 15 under. A final round 31-38 posted a tournament record 16-under and he comfortably won by four shots. The reigning champion defends against a field of 144 and is the only former winner playing this week. Needing to get into gear, he missed the cut last week at Innisbrook after cashing T45 at THE PLAYERS. Placing T6 at Torrey Pines, another track that favors power players off the tee, is his only top-10 payday in a quiet start to the new season. The rough is down an inch this year and that should help him, and the rest of the field, overcome any accuracy issues off the tee.

After picking up his first victory at the Fortinet Championship in September, sharp eyes have continued to follow Sahith Theegala (+2200) . Kicking off the season with a solo second in Maui, the Californian has not shown any signs of cooling off. Cashing another top 5 at the WM Phoenix Open, not even the change of grasses in the Florida Swing bothered his game. Placing T6 at Bay Hill, he added another top 10 (T9) in his last start on TOUR at THE PLAYERS Championship. Hoping the third time is the charm at Memorial Park, he closed with 64 last year for T22.

Texas has always been good to Jason Day (+2500) . Picking up his first TOUR victory at the 2010 Byron Nelson, the Australian has also won the former WGC-Match Play Championship at the Austin Country Club. Returning to the Dallas area in May, he will defend the AT&T Byron Nelson. Houston has treated him well in his three previous visits, including T7 on the event debut in 2020 and four rounds in the 60s last time for T16. Back-to-back top-10 paydays on the West Coast did not follow him to Florida, but his worst finish from seven starts in 2024 is only T36 (API). A wide-open layout with only 21 bunkers and water on only four holes should fit his eye.

Here's a look at other notable odds via BetMGM, including Keith Mitchell who failed to convert a 54-hole lead last week at Innisbrook:

  • +3300: Alex Noren, Keith Mitchell, Si Woo Kim
  • +4000: Billy Horschel
  • +5000: Aaron Rai, Beau Hossler, Jake Knapp, Mackenzie Hughes, Stephan Jaeger, Tom Hoge
  • +5500: Akshay Bhatia, Doug Ghim, Patrick Rodgers, Taylor Moore
  • +6600: Kurt Kitayama, Thomas Detry, Andrew Novak, Ben Griffin, Joel Dahmen, K.H. Lee, Luke List
  • +8000: Adam Svensson, Thorbjorn Olesen
  • +9000: Davis Thompson, Matt Wallace
  • +10000: Carl Yuan, Daniel Berger, Joseph Bramlett, Mark Hubbard, Matti Schmid, Robert MacIntyre, Ryan Fox, Ryan Moore, Scott Stallings, Victor Perez

How the Texas Children’s Houston Open works:

  • A field of 144 players will be cut to the top 65 and ties after 36 holes.
  • Purse of $9.1 million
  • The winner takes home $1.638 million, plus 500 FedExCup points, an invitation to the Masters, and the 2025 Sentry.
  • Reminder: Memorial Park is hosting for the fourth time in five years (no calendar 2023 event) and the fourth time this century. The results from Texas Children's Houston Opens played before 2020 are not relevant to course history this week.
