nbc studio tour hollywood

The studio tour at NBC isn't free, but it is reasonably priced when compared with the cost of the tours provided by the local motion picture studios. NBC's $8.50 admission charge seems like a bargain compared with the $69 charged by Universal Studios or the $45 charged by nearby Warner Brothers . It also beats the $15 price of the Paramount Studios tour.

The NBC tour is a modest one, though. You'll find no audioanimatronic sharks snapping at your heels here, no 50-foot apes or flying DeLoreans. Unlike Universal , the NBC Studio tour is not a theme park in disguise.

And unlike the Warner Bros tour, there are no mini trams or giant back lots to explore. It's just a 70-minute, indoor walking tour, offering a down-to-earth view of a working television studio.

nbc studio tour hollywood

Then it is up to Studio Three , the set where the " Tonight Show " is taped. (Jay Leno moved the show to this building in 1994, from the historic Studio One where Johnny Carson taped his shows.) There, tour guests get to sit in the same seats as the " Tonight Show " studio audience and see that famous, familiar " Tonight Show " set up-close.

The tour shows you videos about NBC's history, gives you demonstrations of sound-effects machines, and explains how such TV effects as 'chroma key' is brought to life. You might even bump into a minor celebrity along the way. And they accomplish all of this in less than 90 minutes. It's a polished, professional little tour which probably satisfies most tourists' urge for a behind-the-scenes glimpse of some aspect of Hollywood.

The problem is that the NBC tour is just a little too slick.  In fact, it's superficial - bordering on condescending.

nbc studio tour hollywood

You get the feeling that someone in charge thinks the tour guests have just fallen off the turnip truck.

When soap opera actress Deidre Hall (from " Days of Our Lives ") "accidentally" walks by and waves hello, you're supposed to believe that it was a blissful coincidence.

nbc studio tour hollywood

Guests are "treated like tourists" in the worst sense of that term. The well groomed tour guides are friendly and polite, but you are always aware that, as a visitor, you are being kept on a very tight leash. What you see along their short, carefully-orchestrated tour route is what they want you to see - a shallow presentation designed to satisfy the supposedly unsophisticated hordes of tourists with a bare minimum of realism, while keeping them well out of the way of actual studio operations.

Don't come here expecting to explore the secrets of a working TV studio. Most of what they show you is about as spontaneous as a museum display, and the tour group is often simply routed into separate little rooms where they can be amused, but kept safely out from underfoot.

So is the tour worth the price of admission? Well, the cost ($8.50) is certainly low enough, the tour is polished & mildly entertaining, and you do get to take a look inside one of the most famous television studios in Hollywood, however cursory that look might be.  I suppose that just being able to see the inside of the " Tonight Show " studio (without standing in line for hours) might be worth the price of admission for many folks. But at its heart, the tour is a sham... it could be so much better if only it were more authentic and just a bit more spontaneous. You might be better off simply getting free tickets to the Tonight Show .

A word about crowds: I took the tour at 11 AM on a weekday in late October, and there were about twenty other people in my casual, relaxed group. But I am told that the tours gets much more crowded during the peak summer tourist season, especially on summer weekends when they can sell out early. I suggest you try to visit during the off-season.

Admission Price :

Adults:                 $8.50 Seniors (60+):     $7.50 Children (5 12)    $5.00 (Children under 5 free.)

Hours : Tours depart at regular intervals from 9 AM to 1 PM on weekdays (Mon-Fri). Closed on Saturday & Sunday (except during peak summer & holiday seasons, when they are open extended hours and on weekends). Phone ahead to be sure.

Which Is The Best Hollywood Studio Tour For You?

There are four major Hollywood studio tours that you can go on in and around Los Angeles : Warners Bros., Sony, Paramount, and Universal Studio Tours.

It’s really not necessary to do all of them , especially on the same trip. There’s quite a bit of overlap between each studio tour, and the ticket prices can really add up.

Throughout my visits to California, I’ve managed to visit all 4 Hollywood studio tours in Los Angeles (and some more than once!).

Here’s my in-depth reviews of all the major Hollywood studio tours in Los Angeles. This is what to expect from each one so you can decide which is the best studio tour in los Angeles for you!

Psst! This blog post contains affiliate links in it which sends me a bit of extra money if you use them… at no extra cost to you!

Why Should You Go On A Hollywood Studio Tour?

Hollywood Studio Tours in Los Angeles are a great way to gain an “ all-access” pass to the biggest backstage lots in California .

They give you a chance to go behind the scenes on some of your favourite movies and TV shows.

You’ll get to see the sets and props, and learn about the magic of making movies. And, if you’re lucky, you might get the chance to either see a live film set or a celebrity at work .

Let’s just say, visit a movie set is a quintessential Los Angeles activity … p.s. see my L.A. guide here .

Which Is The Best Hollywood Studio Tour For You ?

The best Hollywood studio tour for you will depend on three main factors :

  • Your favourite films and TV shows

The studio tours vary in budget and tour length. The price ranges between $55 to $110 / ticket . And the tour can last anywhere between one to three hours .

But your favourite movies and TV shows are the most important factor when deciding which studio tour in Los Angeles to go to. If you haven’t watched anything the studio has produced, you’ll be less interested in what you’re seeing and learning about.

Universal Studios Hollywood Studio Tour

Universal Studios is a bit of a unique studio tour in Los Angeles. The studio tour can only be accessed if you buy a ticket to the entire theme park .

This also puts the studio tour at a much higher price point compared to the others around Los Angles. But, on the other hand, it is an ENTIRE day of activities instead of a few hours.

The tour itself is only 60 minutes but there are no shortage of other rides and shows to see once you’re in the park.

Quick Information & Links

Total Time : 1 hour (not including wait time in line) Admission : $109 -$119* (includes access to the entire park, price varies depending on the season) Book Tickets for Universal Studios Hollywood . Parking : Starts at $32* (General Parking)

Pros Of The Universal Studios Hollywood Studio Tour

You are on the LARGEST film and TV studio in Hollywood and the world! You get to drive by some of the most iconic sets in all movie history.

You drive-by the sound stages, new and old sets.

But this is still a ride in a theme park so they’ve added some more ride-like adventure elements to make things more exciting, unlike any other Hollywood studio tours in Los Angeles.

filming-dr-seuss-scene-universal-studios-hollywood-studio-tour

At times you feel like you’re in the movie rather than just seeing where one was filmed!

And it’s not all for show either, they do still use these sets to film. In fact, this was the only Hollywood studio tour where I caught a live taping , so it’s still possible to see!

One thing’s certain though, you won’t be bored for a second on this tour even if you don’t happen to see an active film set during your tour.

P.S. Make the most of your time at Universal Studios and book an Express Line ticket through Viator here . It gives you one-time express access to each ride, show, and attraction at the park !

Cons Of The Universal Studios Hollywood Studio Tour

It’s the least personal studio tour in Los Angeles. You’re on a tram the entire time for 60 minutes straight, with about 30 other people!

As I said, this tour is sometimes more of a ride than a studio tour (so it’s both a pro and a con!).

At times, the tour felt very streamlined , because most of it is. You still have a guide, but he’s following a script on a set path so it’s the same tour every time (unlike the others which have a bit more variance based on your guide).

The tram is on a set course and there are timed animatronics and effects throughout the tour.

Value For Money – Movie Location Los Angeles

I will admit, you get pretty good value for your money with your tickets to Universal studios. But that’s only if you wanted to visit the theme park.

If you were already planning on visiting Universal Studios Hollywood, then the studio tour is a must-do ride!

But if you don’t like theme parks, and your only interest is the Hollywood studio tour, I wouldn’t recommend paying for the entire theme park just for the tour.

Logistics: What To Know Before You Go

A tram leaves about every 30 minutes for the Universal Studios Hollywood studio tour so the line builds up pretty quickly. I’d prioritize this as one of your first rides of the day.

As I said, don’t expect reality with this one, they do show you real sets but it’s also still a ride. So you’ll get a lot of gimmicky routines created specifically for this tour.

Also, some advance warning, you might get wet at certain points during the ride. If you’d prefer to not get wet, try to sit in the middle of the row.

Warner Bros. Studio Tour

Warner Bros. Studio is actually in Burbank California , but it’s close enough to Los Angeles.

Warner Bros. studio tour takes you on a tram around different parts of the studio, with only around 12 guests at a time on the tour.

So unlike Universal Studios Hollywood studio tour, it’s a lot more personal and you’re only on the tram to get from place to place (because their lot is HUGE!).

You drive by sound stages and countless outdoor sets. But you’ll get off and walk around a bit, even walking in some sets if you’re lucky. So you should be prepared for some walking on this studio tour in Los Angeles!

Total Time : ~3 hours (1 hour guided, 2 hours unguided). Leaves every 30 minutes from 9:30 to 3:30 Admission : 70$* Parking : 15$* Website

So Much More Than A Studio Tour

Over the years, the Warner Bros. studio tour has grown. It’s no longer just a backlot tour, now, that’s just one part of it…

Museums, Props, Sets, & Photo Ops At Warner Bros. Studio

Tickets to the Warner Bros. studio tour also includes interactive museums where you’ll want to take all the pictures you can!

You can interact with different sets from your favourite movies and TV sets, like Friends, the Big Bang Theory and Harry Potter! on the magic of movies, costume

There’s also an entire exhibit on the DC universe with all superheroe and villain props. They have Aquaman’s lair, Wonder Woman’s study, Superman’s office, and the Batman’s bat cave.

And finally they have an in-depth exhibit on all things filmmaking. Staring with the writing process and finishing with the special effects of movie making.

Pros Of The Warner Bros. Studio Tour

They are constantly updating the Warner Bros. studio tour – that means you can even go back the next time you’re in Los Angeles, I’ve already gone back twice!

There was some over lap with the sets and information, but very little. A lot had been updated and added to the tour. And I’ve already noticed that they’ve added a lot more content since I’ve gone!

Also, the guided portion of the tour will rarely be the same. For starters, where you go will all depend on what they’re filming at the time. So not only can it change over the years, but it can change within the hour!

It’s also a very personal tour with only being 12 people on the tram. You can also all your questions about movie magic!

Cons Of The Warner Bros. Studio Tour

With all the new additions to the tour every year, I’ve noticed the guided portion has become less and less…

The guided tour portion is only hour , and then two hours are a self guided tour through the museums.

But it’s the guided portion of the tour that’s always fresh and what brings me back! I’m a bit disappointed that the museums seem to have taken over the tour now, making the tour a bit more gimmicky and less about touring real sets and sound stages…

Bring government I.D. when you visit, and make sure to arrive early!

You have to go through security and there might be a lineup. They suggest arriving 30 minutes in advance.

Don’t worry about getting lost on your way to the studios (if you’re driving there)! I followed the instructions we were given on how to get to the visitor’s centre, but my GPS brought me to the wrong gate. No need to panic if this happens to you too! The patrol was very understanding (I’m sure this happens all the time) and told us exactly where to go.

If you’re driving, there’s a parking lot across the street from the visitor’s centre (paid, of course). The studio is in a pretty secluded area, but there’s a Starbucks in the visitor’s centre .

Paramount Pictures Hollywood Studio Tour

Paramount Pictures is really interesting because it’s the last Hollywood studio still in Hollywood (well in Los Angeles).

So it’s only about a 15-minute drive from Hollywood Blvd. FYI, Warner is in Burbank, and Sony is in Culver City.

It was very similar to Warner Bros. Hollywood studio tour in terms of the scale of the studio. They have several sound stages, a water tank, and a totally customizable New York set.

Like the other Hollywood studio tours in Los Angeles, there’s a museum portion of the tour with props. Paramount Pictures one had a lot of “ unwanted ” props (those that could only be used once for the film they were designed for).

There was A LOT of props from the Transformers franchise, but there were also Star Trek, Gladiator, and Dream Girls props.

Time : 2 hours * They leave every 30 minutes from 9:00 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. Admission : 65$* Parking : $22 – (used to be cash only)* Website

Pros Of Paramount Pictures Studio Tour In Los Angeles

The best part about the Paramount Pictures Hollywood studio tour tour was the small size of the group. There’s a max of 7 people on the tour (you’re in an 8 seater golf cart).

The tour also provided earphones to be able to perfectly hear your tour guide at all times, so they didn’t have to shout at you! There can be a lot going on on sets with a lot of noises, so the earphones were definitely appreciated.

I also liked that they provided visuals for what you were looking at during the tour. Our tour guide carried around an iPad showing examples of what a specific set was used for over the years. So instead of looking at a giant green screen, they showed us how that green screen was used in different films.

nbc studio tour hollywood

Cons Of Paramount Pictures Studio Tour

Paramount Pictures studio tour taught me a few things about Hollywood studio tours in Los Angeles…

First, the quality of the tour really depends on your tour guide – they can make or break your visit. And unfortunately, you won’t really know who you’re going to get beforehand.

Unfortunately for me, my tour guide at Paramount Pictures wasn’t the best. There’s so much history to this Hollywood studio that I ended up lost most of the time because I didn’t know who or what he was referring to, I guess the references were also a bit ahead of my time…

Paramount Studio tour also really showed me how important it is to have seen (or at least heard of) the films or shows the studio produced.

So if you’re a fan of classics like I Love Lucy, Alfred Hitchcock, or the original King Kong then Paramount Pictures studio tour is a must for you!

For me, Paramount Pictures studio tour was a bit of a mixed bag. I really see the potential of this tour though, but I think you have to be a really big movie buff to enjoy Paramount Pictures studio tour.

paramount-picutres-gates

The visitor parking is across the street from the main gates. Be wary of the address on Google Maps, it brought me to the wrong gate.

When I visited, parking was cash only, so it’s always good to be prepared. There’s an ATM you can use at the end of the tour if you need (apparently no one does cash back in the area…).

Like the other tours, you have to show I.D. and go through security, so they ask you to arrive 30 minutes before your tour . But, in case there’s no wait at all, there’s a mini-exhibit you can visit to pass the time before your tour starts.

Make sure to bring water and food, there’s really not much in the area. But drinks aren’t allowed on the tour itself, so leave it in the car!

Costumes Paramount Studio Tour

SONY Studio Hollywood Tour

SONY Hollywood studio tour ended up being my favourite studio tour . We were only about 5 people on this tour, so it was very personal. But I don’t know if this was the max, or that fewer people happened to sign up for it.

I know online there are 25 spots per time slot. I don’t know if that’s the typical tour size on a busier day, or if they would always split you up into smaller groups once you get there.

There are famous cars on display from movies and shows (like Breaking Bad and Ghostbusters). They also have a prop museum at the start of the tour. There’s even an Oscar and an Emmy award you can see (and even hold!).

Time : 2 hours * Leaves 4 times a day: 9:30, 10:30, 1:30 and 2:30. Admission : 55$* Parking : Free Valet Website

What Was Filmed Here

  • Breaking Bad
  • Wheel of Fortune
  • Ghostbusters
  • The Goldbergs

sony pictures studio tour

Pros Of The SONY Studio Tour

SONY is a MUCH smaller studio than the other three Hollywood studio tours in Los Angeles. That means you don’t even need a tram to get around, we walked everywhere (so you should also be prepared to walk!). This made it easier to take appreciate it all and take pictures!

I also absolutely loved our tour guide, he was by far my favourite out of all the ones we had on any tour. It didn’t seem like he simply memorized a script. It was as if he lived and breathed SONY and films in general. I would’ve believed it if he’d told us he grew up on set.

We also got the chance to walk on to a sound stage from one of my favourite TV Shows – The Goldbergs. And our guide brought us onto a working foley stage (where they create extra sounds for movies).

If a sound or foley stage isn’t available to see, you are guaranteed to see either the Wheel of Fortune or Jeopardy set . They film on opposite days, so you’ll always be able to see one of them.

But the best perk of all is… You get your picture taken on the set of either Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune, which they’ll print out and give to you as a souvenir… FREE OF CHARGE! ! Seriously when is anything ever free these days…

Cars Sony PicturesTour

Cons Of The SONY Hollywood Studio Tour

As I mentioned, there’s no tram for the SONY Hollywood studio tour. Although the studio isn’t as large as the others, you have to be prepared to walk quite a bit.

Another sort of pro and con is that it’s 80 % outdoors . So you really want to go when it’s decent weather. And be prepared to be in the sun!

Value For Money – Hollywood Studio Tours In Los Angeles

I think you get a lot of value for your money at SONY studio tour. It’s the cheapest out of any of the Hollywood studio tours in Los Angeles and they give you some nice freebies (like parking and a photo souvenir!).

The scale of the studio might be smaller than the other three major studios, but there’s still a lot to see. And despite the lack of big blockbuster sets, they make up for it in different ways (like seeing the inside of a game show set, and a foley stage).

Like Warner Bros. and Paramount Pictures studio tours, they ask that you arrive 30 minutes early to go through security.

If you drive there, they offer FREE valet parking in the Overland lot.

The studio is very much out of the way, so plan your meals and snacks in advance. All they had at the studio was a vending machine .

Don’t expect to see large outdoor sets like from Warner Bros. or Paramount, SONY is a lot smaller, so most of their sets are on sound stages. So if you’re interested in the big New York outdoor sets, SONY isn’t for you!

sony-studio-tour

Overview, What’s The Best Studio Tour In Los Angeles?

Like I said before, Universal Studios is the most expensive, but you do get an entire days worth of activities. But if your intent is to learn about movie magic, the other three are better choices.

If you have time for more than one, you don’t need to see both Warner Bros. and Paramount Pictures. There’s quite a bit of overlap between the two. Instead, choose one of those, and then either Universal or SONY as your second option.

P.S. Need A Place To Stay In L.A.? Hotel Recommendations

Finding a place to stay in Los Angeles can be quite overwhelming – it’s HUGE!

I stayed at the Sofitel and would highly recommend it. It was in a safe area, and across the street from the Beverly Hills mall (which proved to be very convenient). It was also within walking distance to some local restaurants you need to try – like the Kings Road Cafe! See room rates & availability here .

If you want to stay on the beach outside of the city life instead, we stayed at The Georgian in Santa Monica and couldn’t recommend it enough! It’s only about a 25 minute drive from the city. This was a beautiful art deco hotel that is begging you to go there! It’s a minutes walk to the beach, Santa Monica Pier, and the Third Street Promenade. See room rates & availability here .

You've gotten me excited about my next trip to Los Angeles. I've done the Universal tour and the Warner Bros tour, so I may do what you suggested and do Paramount and Sony next.

You're right about Universal's tour being more of a ride from what I remember. However, it was cool to see sets from The Good Place, Jaws, and Psycho. Being on the tram the whole time was a little different, and my experience was a bit thrown off because I hadn't expected Universal, CA to have such similar rides to Universal, FL, and I loved how Universal, FL made it really seem like you were on a set walking through various cities. Definitely not the same as CA. I think I was there for about 2 hours and was done. The weather was weird where it was kindof warm at first, but then turned super cold while I was in line for a ride, so I was done sooner than I expected.

I absolutely loved the Warner Bros tour. The guide was super nice and knowledgeable. I almost died when I saw the Gilmore Girl house and Luke's Diner. Of course I took pictures at the Central Perk. To me, the prop museum was a tad boring, but still overall decent. The tour was partially walking and partially riding. There were so many moments where I was like...."this looks familiar" and had to think of where the set had been used. Super cool. I highly recommend it.

Wednesday 27th of September 2023

That's awesome!! Definitely I enjoyed that the Warners brothers was mixed with walking and a tram ride you were able to get so much further that way - and the lot is HUGE! It really is cool seeing sets from your favourite TV shows and movies! I really liked the SONY tour but it was definitely a lot smaller than Warner bros!

Have you ever wondered how your favorite shows are being made? You can find out at the NBC Studio Tour that gives you behind-the-scenes access to many well-known shows. We participated in the TV and Movie Locations tour, including the NBC Studio Tour inside Rockefeller Center and learned about every step of the TV production process. Oh, and we also got to see some celebrities on the way!

The Movie Locations and NBC Studio Tour in New York is a guided walk that consists of two different parts:

1. TV and Movie Locations Tour

First, your guide will show your around Midtown Manhattan to see some popular TV and Movie locations located in proximity to NBC Studios. These include film locations known from  Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Friends, Seinfeld, Sex and the City , Home Alone,  Gossip Girl , and a few others. Your guide will share some interesting facts with you, many of which actually surprised us! You’ll also have enough time to take photos at each of the locations. It’s a lot of fun trying to reproduce a few famous scenes!

2. NBC Studio Tour

In the second part of the tour, you head on over to Rockefeller Center to take the official NBC Studio Tour. During the NBC Studio Tour, you’ll get insights into the entire TV production process , starting from scriptwriting and producing to broadcasting and controlling. The tour highlight for most people, however, is seeing the film studios of the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, the Today Show, Late Night with Seth Meyers and Saturday Night Live (SNL) . Which sets you will actually get to visit depends on whether the studio is available. Sometimes it might be the case that the studio is being prepared for the next show. That’s exactly what happened when we walked past the Saturday Night Live Studio. Did you know that they create every scene for SNL from scratch?

The good news is that the SNL studio has large windows that don’t even require you to go in to see the set!

Even when just walking through the hallway, you’ll see that everything is nicely decorated with plenty of photos and other memories from NBC’s history. The entire NBC Studios reach over several floors. It’s huge!

If you’re lucky you may even catch a glimpse of one of the shows or celebrities!

However, there is obviously no guarantee for that. During our tour, we happened to walk by Today Show host Al Roker.

At the end of the NBC Studio Tour, a unique interactive experience is awaiting you: you and your group are invited to produce your own TV segment . Another great thing about it is that you’ll get to keep the video of your show! It will be sent to you via email after the tour. This is the ultimate way of testing whether you’ve got what it takes to host your own talk show!

What’s New on Peacock in March 2024? Apples Never Fall, The McBee Dynasty, Trolls and More

From deep, dark mysteries to getting animated with Trolls and Megamind , March is definitely your lucky month.

nbc studio tour hollywood

Feeling lucky? No matter if St. Patrick’s Day is jingling onto your March radar yet, fortunes are sure to rise and fall this month on Peacock .

This March, lots of new Peacock originals  are debuting, with stories of deep family secrets, real-life cowboys, and even an unlikely political icon. And of course, there's plenty more beyond the great originals too, including some of the most beloved films and TV shows ever produced.

Apples Never Fall  (Streaming March 14)

Save the date for March 14, when big-screen legends Annette Bening and Sam Neill try to keep their seemingly typical family from unraveling in the new Peacock mystery series Apples Never Fall . Based on the same-named bestselling novel from author Liane Moriarty ( Big Little Lies , Nine Perfect Strangers ), Apples Never Fall ignites suspicions among the quiet and happy Delaney family after an unexpected house visit from a wounded stranger culminates in a potentially tragic missing-persons case… but could dad Stan (Neill) really be to blame?

Also starring Alison Brie, Jake Lacy, Conor Merrigan-Turner, and Essie Randles, all seven episodes of the limited series will be available to binge from March 14, when Apples Never Fall lands at Peacock.

The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys (Streaming March 11)

Family intrigue of a different kind is set to kick up some dust as high-stakes tension unfolds in the new Peacock original reality series The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys . Head out to the range for a deep insider’s look at the conflicting personalities that could either spell fortune or disaster for the McBee family under patriarch Steve McBee — a guy who knows how to play almost as hard as he (and his three ambitious farming sons) know how to work. Head for the hills of rural Missouri on March 11, when all ten episodes of The McBee Dynasty: Real American Cowboys bolt out of the gate on Peacock.

Stormy (Streaming Mach 18)

From the steamy world of adult entertainment to the center of a maelstrom of presidential politics, Stormy Daniels’ name has become synonymous with controversy — but there’s so much more to know. Stormy takes viewers behind the scenes in a feature-length Peacock documentary from Emmy-nominated director Sarah Gibson ( Orgasm Inc: The Story of OneTaste ), exploring how Daniels “navigates being a mother, an artist, and an advocate working hard to reinvent herself, while still grappling with the bombshell that went off in her life five years earlier.” It’s a candid look at the many unseen sides of one of politics’ most unlikely headline-makers, and it all kicks off when Stormy premieres on Peacock on March 18.

More March Highlights on Peacock

There’s a whole pot o’ gold of freshly-arrived March content on Peacock, where the full Harry Potter movie series will weave its magic Hogwarts spell on viewers all month long. And it wouldn’t be St. Patrick’s season without an unlucky tip of the hat to terror, as the full Leprechaun horror-comedy film franchise arrives on March 1 to steal your treasure… or, y'know, at least die trying.

You don’t have to be scared of Peacock’s 1990s-themed March debuts, though. Get your nostalgic ‘90s kicks with fresh streaming arrivals of TV and movie classics including The Nanny (Seasons 1-6), Death Becomes Her , Pretty Woman , My Cousin Vinny , Reality Bites , Working Girl (all streaming from March 1), and tons more.

Just to keep things family-friendly, March is an especially fun debut month on Peacock, where the fresh-from theaters DreamWorks Animation musical comedy Trolls Band Together makes its March 15 streaming debut. It’s just part of an all-out DreamWorks treasure trove, though: March 1 marks the Peacock premiere of new DreamWorks animated movie Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate … not to mention serving as the launch date for its companion small-screen series Megamind Rules!

Golf prodigy Michelle Wie West is getting the documentary treatment, with NBC Sports and Campfire Studios working on the project alongside the USGA. The doc, Dream Big: The Michelle Wie Story , will debut in May on NBC and stream on Peacock ahead of the U.S. Women’s Open Presented by Ally.

Wie West, who was the youngest woman to ever compete on the PGA tour and is a five-time LPGA Tour winner, made her first LPGA cut at age 13, and went pro at 16. She retired from professional golf last year.

Excel Media (part of Excel Sports Management), Victory Sports Media, Show B, Highly Flammable and Ellevest are also producers on the doc.

“After stepping back and reflecting on the peaks and valleys of my career, I felt a profound sense of gratitude and fulfillment, and I want savor all of the lessons I learned and resilience I gained along the way,” said Wie West in a statement. “I was deeply flattered by the opportunity to work with Maura and the team, and my hope is that viewers, especially young athletes, can gain an understanding of some of the challenges, and also draw some inspiration and encouragement from my story.”

“Michelle Wie West is one of the most influential and recognizable golfers in recent history and we’re excited to partner with the USGA and Campfire Studios to tell her story,” added Tom Knapp, executive VP of Golf for NBC Sports. “Few moments in golf were more inspirational than Michelle teeing it up at the 2004 Sony Open as a 14-year-old. Michelle showed countless numbers of young girls and boys what is possible and her impact on the sport will endure for decades.”

The Wie West doc comes amid a continuing sports doc boom .

For Wie West, the deal with NBC and Peacock guarantees distribution for the project, while NBC gets another piece of golf content to add to its portfolio.

Richard Lewis, Acerbic Comedian and Character Actor, Dies at 76

After rising to prominence for his stand-up act, he became a regular in movies and TV, most recently on “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

Richard Lewis, an intense-looking dark-haired man wearing a black leather jacket over a black T-shirt with his arms crossed.

By Clay Risen

Richard Lewis, the stand-up comedian who first achieved fame in the 1970s and ’80s with his trademark acerbic, dark sense of humor, and who later parlayed that quality into an acting career that included movies like “Robin Hood: Men in Tights” and a recurring role as himself on HBO’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” died on Tuesday at his home in Los Angeles. He was 76.

His publicist, Jeff Abraham, said the cause was a heart attack. Mr. Lewis announced last year that he had Parkinson’s disease .

Mr. Lewis was among the best-known names in a generation of comedians who came of age during the 1970s and ’80s, marked by a world-weary, sarcastic wit that mapped well onto the urban malaise in which many of them plied their trade.

After finding success as a comedian in New York nightclubs, he became a regular on late-night talk shows, favored as much for his tight routine as for his casual, open affability as an interviewee. He appeared on “Late Night With David Letterman” 48 times.

And he was at the forefront of the boom in stand-up comedy that came with the expansion of cable television in the late 1980s.

Neurotic and self-deprecating, typically dressed all in black, Mr. Lewis paced the stages of comedy clubs, hanging his head, pulling at his shock of black hair, riffing on his struggles in life and love. He called himself the “Prince of Pain,” and so did his legions of fans.

The titles of his many comedy specials from the 1980s tell it all: “I’m in Pain,” “I’m Exhausted,” “I’m Doomed.”

He built some of his anecdotal bits around the idea of the worst possible version of an everyday figure: the waiter from hell, the doctor from hell. In 2006, The Yale Book of Quotations honored him with an entry for “the ______ from hell,” credited to him.

He came by his art naturally — there was no faking his misery — but also through astute attention to the anxiety-inducing and neurosis-triggering details of everyday life.

“I’m such a madman — I’m so obsessed about the show, but that’s who I am,” he told The New York Observer in 2007 . “I’m just so wired by my time onstage, my head is filled with images. It’s terrifying, but it’s also exhilarating. I’ll never not work like this.”

But it wasn’t an act. Part of Mr. Lewis’s appeal was his willingness to poke into his own wounds, drawing on his unhappy childhood, his unhappy dating life and his everyday bouts of gaping self-doubt.

If it caused him pain to be so open — and it clearly did — it also fueled his success. He was among the best-known stand-up comedians of the late 1980s. He played a sold-out show at Carnegie Hall in 1989, receiving two standing ovations for two and a half hours of material.

“He didn’t assume a character when he walked up onstage,” Billy Crystal, who came up with Mr. Lewis on the New York comedy scene in the 1970s, said in an interview on Wednesday. “He just kind of dragged himself up there. It was refreshing. Sometimes you could see audiences just want to say, ‘Slow down. It’s going to be OK.’”

Mr. Lewis soon moved into acting. He starred as Marty Gold on the sitcom “Anything but Love,” opposite Jamie Lee Curtis, from 1989 to 1992. The show won him critical and popular acclaim and seemed to signal a move to Hollywood stardom.

But his follow-up show, “Daddy Dearest,” on which he played the son of his fellow comic Don Rickles , was a bomb, and Mr. Lewis spent the next several years seeking out bit parts in movies and single-episode roles on TV.

He had a prominent role in Mel Brooks’s comedy “Robin Hood: Men in Tights” (1993), but otherwise he had to settle for small roles in films like “Leaving Las Vegas” (1995) and “Hugo Pool” (1997).

After two years of struggling to get acting roles, he returned to stand-up, traveling the country with his show “Richard Lewis: The Magical Misery Tour,” which was seen as an HBO special in 1996. It brought him new attention from a new generation of comedy fans, and a new shot at bit parts in television.

Many of his best TV roles were on shows that shared his dark-tinged, humorous take on the world, like the animated series “The Simpsons” and “BoJack Horseman.”

Mr. Lewis was open about his struggles with alcohol, drugs and depression. He became sober in the mid-1990s and wrote about his experience in his 2000 memoir, “The Other Great Depression: How I’m Overcoming, on a Daily Basis, at Least a Million Addictions and Dysfunctions and Finding a Spiritual (Sometimes) Life.”

He revised the book, with a new foreword, and republished it in 2008. He also wrote “Reflections From Hell: Richard Lewis’ Guide on How Not to Live” (2015).

Beginning in 1999, he had a regular role on “Curb Your Enthusiasm” as a good friend and golf buddy of Larry David, the show’s star and creator. He played a semi-fictionalized version of himself, a dour Eeyore who made Mr. David’s otherwise prickly self seem like Christopher Robin.

Mr. Lewis did not appear in every episode, but he appeared regularly, including in the current season, the show’s last.

Richard Philip Lewis was born on June 29, 1947, in Brooklyn, in the same hospital as his friend and future co-star, Mr. David, and just three days before him. His family soon moved to Englewood, N.J. His father, Bill Lewis, owned a kosher catering business, and his mother, Blanche (Goldberg) Lewis, acted in community theater, specializing in the Jewish mother characters in Neil Simon plays.

As Mr. Lewis often related in his stand-up act, his family life was troubled. His father was never home and died when Richard was still young. His mother was emotionally distant, with issues of her own.

“I owe my career to my mother,” he told The Washington Post in 2020 . “I should have given her my agent’s commission.”

He attended the Ohio State University and, after graduating with a degree in marketing, returned to New Jersey. While trying his hand at comedy at night and writing material for other comedians on the side, he worked day jobs as an advertising copywriter and a clerk at a sporting goods store.

He was miserable. One day he was in a delicatessen with his friend and mentor, the comedian David Brenner , complaining about his lack of success — and his lack of sleep.

“He said, ‘What do you need to be a comic full time?’” Mr. Lewis told The Philadelphia Inquirer in 1995. “I said a thousand dollars. He whipped out a check and gave it to me. I quit my job and I’ve never looked back.”

He made his stand-up debut in 1971, at a club in Greenwich Village, and could be seen for the next decade sharing billings with comics like Jay Leno, Richard Belzer, Elayne Boosler and Robert Klein.

He made his acting debut in 1979, starring in the made-for-TV movie “Diary of a Young Comic,” which appeared on NBC as a fill-in for “Saturday Night Live.”

As his career took off, Mr. Lewis moved to Los Angeles, though he returned to his hometown frequently.

“New York is my home turf — I have so many friends in Manhattan,” he told The New York Observer in 2007 . “And, tragically, so many relatives.”

He lived alone in a sprawling house above the Sunset Strip and remained proudly averse to long-term relationships until he met Joyce Lapinsky, who worked in music publishing. They dated for several years before Mr. Lewis, considering marriage, brought her to his psychiatrist. “This is as good as it gets,” he often recalled the therapist saying.

They married in 2005. She survives him, along with his brother, Robert.

Mr. Lewis first met Mr. David when the two went to the same summer camp in upstate New York, though they didn’t get along. (“We hated each other,” Mr. Lewis told The Washington Post.)

They reconnected a decade later, when they were both struggling comics in New York. This time, their friendship stuck. When Mr. David, who helped create and write “Seinfeld,” decided to make a show built around his life, he asked Mr. Lewis to join him.

Mr. Lewis said yes, as long as it was a recurring role. He went on to appear in 41 episodes, introducing him to yet another cohort of fans.

“Because of ‘Curb,’ I’ve got three generations coming to my shows,” he said in a 2014 interview with the website Street Roots. “The demographic: There will be a 13-year-old and then there will be a guy on a gurney saying, ‘I wanted to see you before I die.’”

Mr. Lewis suffered a series of injuries in the late 2010s, requiring surgery on his back and his rotator cuff. He performed his last stand-up show in 2018 at Zanies in Chicago.

In 2023, after shooting the final season of “Curb,” he announced that he had Parkinson’s disease. In a video statement , he said he would continue to write and act for as long as he could.

“I’m hopeful that this doesn’t define me,” he said in an interview with Vanity Fair published on Feb. 18. “I’m a recovered drunk who happens to have Parkinson’s, but I’m a comedian and an actor and an author and a writer. So I just own it and I wear it that way. Of course, when I finish this interview, I’ll break down and cry and start screaming. But why show you everything?”

Orlando Mayorquin , Alex Traub and Michael S. Rosenwald contributed reporting.

An earlier version of this obituary misstated the day in 1947 that Mr. Lewis was born. It was June 29, not June 2.

Saunter Through Stars Hollow on a Quaint Warner Bros. Studio Tour

The "holidays made here" happening will whisk fans to several backlot spots seen in the "gilmore girls.", by alysia gray painter • published december 19, 2022 • updated on december 19, 2022 at 5:21 pm, what to know.

  • Dec. 22, 2022 through Jan. 1, 2023 in Burbank (closed Dec. 25)
  • $69 and up; "Gilmore Girls" photo opps, costume displays, and merch for sale

Quaint fictional towns are as much a part of a fan's heart as the characters and the storylines, for the perfect setting also plays a major role.

And few television series have boasted a beautiful burg like Stars Hollow, the charming, gazebo'd hamlet at the sparkly center of "Gilmore Girls."

Stars Hollow was set in Connecticut, but Luke's Diner, Mrs. Kim's Antiques, and the other storied structures of the close-knit village were located on Midwest Street, found on the legendary Warner Bros. Studio backlot.

It's a legendary location that can be admired while tramming around on the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood , an around-the-calendar must-do for movie mavens.

But come the holidays, at least over several recent Decembers? Midwest Street got a glow-up, all to summon the spirit of Stars Hollow.

That glow-up was held up in 2020 and 2021, but it will be back from Dec. 22, 2022 through Jan. 1, 2023.

Midwest Street will be looking very merry, treats (mmm, Pop-Tarts) will be for sale, and tourgoers can visit costumes and props from the hit series, which ran from 2000 to 2007, first on The WB and finally on the CW (with a limited-time revival on Netflix in 2016).

The Stars Hollow sign will be erected for "Holidays Made Here," and a number of photo opps will pop up around the sweetly realized, oh-so-strollable area. And merchandise created for the cozy celebration?

That, too, will be for sale in pop-up shops dotting the backlot.

"After two years of missing out on celebrating the holidays with our Warner Bros. fans, we are thrilled to have guests back on the lot for Holidays Made Here," said Danny Kahn, VP & General Manager, Warner Bros. Studio Tour Hollywood.

"This event will be a must-see for fans, and we can't wait to share the magic of exploring Stars Hollow with everyone during the holiday season."

As has been a tradition with the popular tours in recent years, a peek around Stage 48 concludes the outing.

An array of iconic artifacts from both television and films on dazzling display, a gift shop brimming with tees, toys, and more, and the "Friends"-inspired Central Perk coffee bar are all found within the sizable structure.

Moscow Metro

The Moscow Metro Tour is included in most guided tours’ itineraries. Opened in 1935, under Stalin’s regime, the metro was not only meant to solve transport problems, but also was hailed as “a people’s palace”. Every station you will see during your Moscow metro tour looks like a palace room. There are bright paintings, mosaics, stained glass, bronze statues… Our Moscow metro tour includes the most impressive stations best architects and designers worked at - Ploshchad Revolutsii, Mayakovskaya, Komsomolskaya, Kievskaya, Novoslobodskaya and some others.

What is the kremlin in russia?

The guide will not only help you navigate the metro, but will also provide you with fascinating background tales for the images you see and a history of each station.

And there some stories to be told during the Moscow metro tour! The deepest station - Park Pobedy - is 84 metres under the ground with the world longest escalator of 140 meters. Parts of the so-called Metro-2, a secret strategic system of underground tunnels, was used for its construction.

During the Second World War the metro itself became a strategic asset: it was turned into the city's biggest bomb-shelter and one of the stations even became a library. 217 children were born here in 1941-1942! The metro is the most effective means of transport in the capital.

There are almost 200 stations 196 at the moment and trains run every 90 seconds! The guide of your Moscow metro tour can explain to you how to buy tickets and find your way if you plan to get around by yourself.

From left: actors Darryl M. Bell, Kadeem Hardison, Cree Summer, Jasmine Guy, Glynn Turman, Dawnn Lewis and Charnele Brown visited a restaurant in Atlanta's Old Fourth Ward for a tip-off dinner ahead of their national HBCU tour in honor of the iconic NBC television series, “A Different World,” and its impact on generations of Black youth.

Primary Content

One by one, several of the main characters of what many consider the best representation of historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) in television history made their way into the Marcus Bar & Grille on Wednesday night.

Jasmine Guy, Kadeem Hardison, Cree Summer, Dawnn Lewis, Darryl M. Bell, Charnele Brown and Glynn Turman were at the Old Fourth Ward restaurant for a tip-off dinner for a national HBCU tour in honor of the impact that iconic NBC television series, A Different World, had on generations of Black youth.

For many people, Black or not, A Different World  and the fictional Hillman College was their first look at an HBCU campus, and most importantly, the culture, sound, and feel of an HBCU.

The first stop on the  A Different World HBCU College Tour , which is presented by  Cisco  and sponsored by  Wells Fargo , is in Atlanta and begins tonight in the Atlanta University Center. The cast will meet with students, faculty and guests from Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, and Spelman College. The 10-stop tour will then move on to the nation’s capital at Howard University, and to Alabama at both Alabama State University and Tuskegee University in April. The remainder of the tour stops and dates will be announced at a later date, according to the tour’s I nstagram page  and  website .

The first episode of the show, which was created by Bill Cosby and producers Susan Fales and Debbie Allen, aired on Sept. 24, 1987. Asked what the show’s legacy, impact on HBCUs, and this tour mean to him and the rest of the cast, Bell, who played Ron Johnson on the show, said it meant a lot.

“It means everything to us. We’ve spent the better part of 35 years as the preeminent representation for HBCUs in film and television,” Bell said. “The number of engineers, lawyers, doctors, HBCU presidents that have come up to us and said, ‘I am who I am today because I went to an HBCU and watched A Different World . It’s what matters.”

The cast and the show remain synonymous with HBCUs decades after airing its final episode on July 9, 1993. Bell acknowledged that impact and seemingly timeless connection with people that weren’t even born when the show came on the air or went off the air.

“For us to have the opportunity to carry that message to the next generation, it’s a blessing,” said Bell. “We want to get to as many schools as we can. That’s why we all do it.”

Work dried up in Atlanta's booming film industry last winter and has been at a near-standstill ever since the industry's writers went on strike in May and actors joined them in July. Writers reached a deal late last month, but with the actors strike still ongoing, many Atlanta-based performers and behind-the-scenes crew members members are grappling for financial survival.

Fun facts from our Moscow Metro Tours:

From the very first days of its existence, the Moscow Metro was the object of civil defense, used as a bomb shelter, and designed as a defense for a possible attack on the Soviet Union.

At a depth of 50 to 120 meters lies the second, the coded system of Metro-2 of Moscow subway, which is equipped with everything you need, from food storage to the nuclear button.

According to some sources, the total length of Metro-2 reaches over 150 kilometers.

The Museum was opened on Sportivnaya metro station on November 6, 1967. It features the most interesting models of trains and stations.

Coffee Ring

The first scheme of Moscow Metro looked like a bunch of separate lines. Listen to a myth about Joseph Stalin and the main brown line of Moscow Metro.

Zodiac Metro

According to some astrologers, each of the 12 stops of the Moscow Ring Line corresponds to a particular sign of the zodiac and divides the city into astrological sector.

Astrologers believe that being in a particular zadiac sector of Moscow for a long time, you attract certain energy and events into your life.

Paleontological finds

Red marble walls of some of the Metro stations hide in themselves petrified inhabitants of ancient seas. Try and find some!

  • Every day each car in  Moscow metro passes  more than 600 km, which is the distance from Moscow to St. Petersburg.
  • Moscow subway system is the  5th in the intensity  of use (after the subways of Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul and Shanghai).
