Norway Cruise Highlights

Norwegian fjords.

Nature buffs and adventure seekers can’t miss seeing the stunning Norwegian fjords during their cruise. Bergen is a great jumping-off point to see fjords like Hardangerfjord, the country’s second-largest fjord. UNESCO World Heritage Site Geirangerfjord is known as the “crown jewel” of the country’s fjords, contrasting steep waterfalls with snow-peaked mountain caps. Go slightly off-the-beaten path to neighboring Hjørundfjord, where activities like fjord fishing and kayaking will captivate you.

Art & History

Explore Oslo’s famous Viking Ship Museum and see three expertly preserved vessels. Spend a while at the Munch Museum, dedicated to the painter Edvard Munch, known best for his painting “The Scream.” In Bergen, Bryggens Museum is a mighty testament to life in the town before a devastating fire in 1955, where excavations uncovered beautiful reminders of everyday Norwegian life. Bergen is also home to its own art museum that uniquely preserves the homes of famous composers throughout history. Time travel at Sunnmøre Museum in Alesund, an open-air exhibit featuring preserved homes and boats dating back to medieval times.

Craft Breweries

Norway’s distilleries and craft microbrewing scene is rapidly growing in cities like Bergen and Alesund. After decades of mostly serving lagers, microbrewers around the country wanted to offer more variety for beer drinkers, so they started to brew their own IPAs, pale ales, and stouts. Ever since, Norway’s cities have brewed hundreds of their own unique drafts. Unwind after a day’s hike and try something new on the menu.

Featured Ports

Bergen, norway.

Rows of deep red, burnt orange, and white houses near Bryggen Wharf is one of the top sights in the city. Enjoy a romantic wharfside meal or a cozy coffee there before you visit Bryggens Museum or St. Mary’s Church. Ride a funicular rail to the summit of Mt. Fløyen for incredible panoramic views of the city below. Explore the surrounding fjords on an unforgettable kayaking or hiking adventure.

Alesund, Norway

On a Norway cruise, you’ll visit the picturesque town of Alesund, frequently cited as one of the country’s most beautiful places to visit. Spend a leisurely day exploring the Art Nouveau District. Hike up nearly 500 steps to Aksla Viewpoint and admire the stunning vistas of the archipelago and breathtaking fjords beyond. The town is also the gateway to Geirangerfjord, one of Norway’s most famous natural wonders and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, nestled between imposing cliffs on all sides.

Oslo, Norway

Let Oslo’s metropolitan atmosphere energize you as you explore its opulent palaces and incredible museums. The capital of Norway is teeming with Viking history, from ships dating back to the 9th century at the Viking Museum to 17th-century art at the National Museum. Art lovers won’t want to miss seeing Edvard Munch’s “The Scream” in person. When you move on from historic wonders, grab a craft beer or sample local salmon at any of Oslo’s trendy eateries.

Norway Cruise Itineraries

Embark on an unforgettable cruise to Norway aboard Celebrity Silhouette or Celebrity Reflection. Sailing from May to August, our Norwegian fjord cruises last anywhere from seven nights to nine nights. Longer itineraries give you the chance to see towns like the mountainous Flam or the remote Geiranger. The World’s Most Beautiful Fjords—and the Cruises That Will Take You There

From norway to new zealand, greenland to glacier bay, alaska, these sailings offer the best way to view the striking coastal bluffs that make up some of the world’s most stunning fjords..

Cruising through a glistening inland waterway surrounded by soaring cliffs and cascading waterfalls with snow-covered peaks in the background is one of those experiences that can take your breath away—and that will leave you feeling deeply humbled by the glory of Mother Nature. Having such an awe-inspiring encounter is what draws travelers to remote corners of the world for fjord cruises.

Whether you are visiting the UNESCO World Heritage-protected fjords of Norway, New Zealand’s Milford Sound, the icy Chilean fjords or other destinations around the globe that are known for these ancient, submerged valleys, be prepared for truly dramatic views. And you can expect more than just a superficial glance at the natural phenomena. Cruises that explore fjords allow passengers to go even deeper and offer unique perspectives with intimate excursions on kayaks or inflatable Zodiac craft, or by catching a birds-eye views from above via helicopter, train rides, or mountain hikes.

Here are some of the world’s most spectacular fjords and the cruise ships that will get you there in comfort and style.

Cruises amid the vast wilderness of Alaska’s Inside Passage bring access to calving glaciers at the head of stunning fjords, whether the ship visits Glacier Bay, College Fjord or Tracy Arm. For sailings that embarks from Seward, plan to overnight so that you can board a small boat to tour Kenai Fjords National Park, with its coastal fjords, islands, glaciers, and prolific marine life—including whales and playful sea otters. Misty Fjords National Monument, visited by small ships and accessible via shore excursions, is the gold standard of Alaskan fjords, a magical, often misty place that involves sailing along icy blue water through the narrow glacier-formed passageways flanked by sheer, 3,000-foot cliffs, tall cascading waterfalls, and dense temperate forest.

Alaska fjord cruises

UnCruise Adventures visits Misty Fjords on its Alaska Fjords & Glaciers itinerary on the 60-passenger Wilderness Adventurer , 74-passenger Wilderness Explorer and 76-passenger Wilderness Discoverer , with fares from $4,800 per person for a seven-night sailing from Juneau or Ketchikan.

a group of Magellanic penguins walking in Chile

Not only are the fjords beautiful in Chile but some of the local residents are downright adorable, like these Magellanic penguins.

South America’s Chilean fjords stretch some 1,000 miles along the southwest coast of Chile through Patagonia, starting at Cape Horn. They are famous for blue-tinged glaciers, icebergs, the rugged Andes mountains and pristine wilderness. The most well-known of the steep-walled fjords is the narrow Garabaldi Fjord, with glaciers as high as skyscrapers. The remote village of Tortel, entirely built on stilts, is visited on itineraries in the region. Wildlife sights include Andean Condors, among the largest birds in the world, along with Magellanic penguins and orca and humpback whales.

Chile fjord cruises

Ships that visit include large vessels from Holland America Line and Celebrity Cruises and smaller ships from lines such as Azamara , Lindblad Expeditions , Silversea and Viking . French line Ponant offers a 14-night cruise in February 2024 on the 264-passenger L’Austral that will sail roundtrip from Ushuaia, Argentina; fares from $11,250 per person.

Glaciers in Illulissat Icefjord, Greenland.

Be humbled by the beauty and fragility of the glaciers and icy landscapes of Illulissat Icefjord in Greenland.

Tina Rolf/Unsplash

The island country of Greenland is home to some 1,200 fjords. On the west coast, the Illulissat Icefjord, which is approximately 25 miles long, has come to serve as a harsh reminder of the realities of global warming, home to giant icebergs that have broken off the fast-moving Greenland ice sheet. The east coast of Greenland has the distinction of having the world’s longest fjord system, Scoresby Sund, with one steep-walled branch that is more than 200 miles long. Adventure cruise lines such as Quark, Hurtigruten and Aurora Expeditions all explore the vast wilderness and fjord systems of this remote destination.

Greenland fjord cruises

Aurora Expeditions has a new 13-night East Greenland Explorer itinerary in the rugged and dramatic landscapes in northeast Greenland that sets sail in August 2023, with fares from $12,415 per person. The cruise is roundtrip from the Icelandic capital of Reykjavík, on the 132-passenger Greg Mortimer . Stops include the tiny Inuit town of Ittoqqortoormiit, population approximately 350, and the goal is visiting the northernmost point in Greenland.

Dynjandi waterfall in the Westfjords of Iceland

Sail to the more remote Westfjords of Iceland where natural wonders such as the Dynjandi waterfall await—with much fewer crowds.

In the Northeast Atlantic, Iceland boasts 109 fjords and visiting them on cruise ship offers one of the best vantage points for seeing them. Charming fishing villages such as Seydisfjordur, with its colorful wooden homes, are often located at the head of some of these cliff-lined waterways —the Vikings having sought such isolated and protected locations for their communities. A circumnavigation of Iceland, roundtrip from Reykjavík, gives passengers the opportunity to compare the fjords of the east, backed by green hills and snow-capped peaks, to the vast and rugged dramatic cliffs and flat-top mountains of the less-populated Westfjords. In both cases, roaring waterfalls add to the dramatic natural scenery. Among the wildlife attractions are the eternally popular puffins as well as whales.

Iceland fjord cruises

Luxury line Seabourn will sail an 11-night circumnavigation of Iceland on the 264-passenger expedition ship Seabourn Venture in July 2024, with fares from $11,499 per person. For an extra fee, go below the surface of Grundarfjordur on the north coast and Papey Island in the east on one of the ship’s two custom-built six-passenger submarines.

Milford Sound in New Zealand

A peak draw on any fjord-driven sailing in New Zealand is the stunning Milford Sound.

New Zealand

The famed Milford Sound is a pristine, ice-carved fjord, nearly 10 miles long that cuts through steep cliffs in New Zealand’s southwestern Fiordland National Park. English novelist Rudyard Kipling referred to the waterway as “the eighth wonder of the world.” Lush rainforests, impressive peaks, and close-up views of big waterfalls are among the natural bounty of this stunning environment. Passengers might see bottlenose and dusky dolphins following their ship and may be able to spot Kea, the world’s only alpine parrots. Fair warning, however, that the weather does not always cooperate. If the fjord is a must-see, consider booking an overnight excursion to improve your chances of viewing it.

New Zealand fjord cruises

For its late 2023 and early 2024 season, Celebrity Cruises visits Milford Sound on 12-night sailings between Auckland and Sydney on the decked-out, 2,908- passenger Celebrity Edge , with fares from $2,000 per person. For $699 per person, you can add a Queensland overnight (during which passengers leave the ship in Dunedin and rejoin at Milford Sound).

Geirangerfjord Norway

UNESCO-recognized Geirangerfjord is one of Norway’s fjord stunners.

Jesse de Backer/Unsplash

Norway abounds in stunning fjords—more than 1,000 in total—with cruise ships bringing you up close for spectacular views. The crown jewels are the UNESCO-recognized Geirangerfjord and Nærøyfjord in southwestern Norway, part of a landscape of fjords that encompasses more than 310 square miles, with cliffs rising as high as nearly 4,600 feet accentuated by stunning waterfalls, lush green coniferous forests, dramatic snow-capped peaks, and glaciers. Some 130 cruise ships visit every year, bringing passengers to some of the longest, deepest, and most beautiful fjords in the world. Visit in winter when you have a good chance of catching the Northern Lights, too, or in the summer when the Midnight Sun shines for nearly round-the-clock views.

Norwegian fjord cruises

A classic Norwegian experience is doing all or part of an 11-night, 2,500-mile circuit with Hurtigruten’s Norwegian Coastal Express , an itinerary that features stops in 34 ports between Bergen and Kirkenes. Hurtigruten has deep roots in Norway—it’s celebrating its 130 th anniversary in 2023. Roundtrip fares are from $2,309 per person; and six-night sailings are from $1,600 per person.

Fråm Railway train in Norway passing along beautiful fjord mountains, meadows and waterfall

On Viking’s Grand Fjords & Iconic Viking Shores itinerary, you can get a different view of Norway’s fjords from the Fråm Railway.

Multi-country fjord cruises

For those who can’t decide between fjord destinations, consider a multi-country cruise. For instance, Viking combines seven countries in its new Grand Fjords & Iconic Viking Shores itinerary , which sails between Amsterdam and New York on the 930-passenger Viking Star or sister ship Viking Neptune . Passengers will stop in the quaint Danish fishing village of Skagen, and will have ample opportunity to explore Norway, including the natural beauty of Geirangerfjord and Aurlandsfjord, which guests will be able to view from above during a ride on the Flåm Railway . In Arctic Svalbard, the ships will explore the untouched wilderness of Isfjorden, the second longest fjord in Norway, where passengers should keep an eye out for polar bears. After that, the cruise will sail the Norwegian Sea for a circumnavigation of Iceland and will continue to Greenland to explore the fjord landscapes there, before sailing the Labrador Sea to Canada and then on to the Atlantic.

Fares are from $16,997 per person, for sailings in June and July 2024 or May through July in 2025.

Norwegian Fjords Cruises from Southampton

Discover the majesty of norway’s fabled lands, 2024 & 2025 cruises from southampton.

Leave behind the humdrum of everyday life, and head for the freedom of the great outdoors on one of our Norwegian Fjords cruises from Southampton. There aren’t many places in the world which give the impression that time has stood still, but the fjords of Norway — with their otherworldly beauty and untamed wilderness — are top of that list.

One of the biggest attractions of the Norwegian fjords is the unspoilt landscape. It has changed very little since the first settlers put down roots, and there is a sense of seclusion on those shores. However, do not be fooled by its serene nature as that region is teeming with wildlife, such as seals, porpoises, reindeer, and eagles. And if you travel in the months between September to April, there might even be a chance to see the Northern Lights!

fjord cruise march 2023

With their rugged mountain peaks, glacial blue lakes, and towering waterfalls, it’s no wonder the Geirangerfjord and the Naeroyfjord were granted World Heritage status by UNESCO.

There are so many ways to explore the fjords. Fancy a hike with rewarding views at the top, or maybe an exhilarating journey in a kayak on crystal clear waters. Why not get hooked on the beautiful scenery while on a guided fishing tour!

Nature & UNESCO Sites

It’s not just the natural surroundings that have remained pristine. Norway boasts an abundance of historical sites, and many fragments of the past can be found in the vicinity of the fjords, including Viking relics, art and folklore museums. The villages and towns have also kept traditional Norwegian culture alive, with locals renown for living off the land.

Sample some of the fruits and vegetables grown on that fertile soil, or freshly-caught seafood. If you’re feeling adventurous, taste some of the caramel-flavoured goat’s cheese unique to Norway, or perhaps bring some wild berry jam back home with you.

Norwegian Fjords cruises from Southampton are one of the easiest and most rewarding bucket-list trips you could choose. Whatever keepsakes you choose from your travels, let your memory of the magnificent fjords be among the most treasured.

Springtime Norwegian Fjords in Five Nights

Views of Sognefjord, Norway

22 May 2025

Your cruise at a glance

Hand-crafted highlights.

Spend the spring Bank Holiday weekend admiring Norway’s remarkable landscapes. In just five nights, Borealis will take you on a journey along picturesque waterways to two wonderfully contrasting destinations. In the Norse city of Bergen, named after the surrounding mountains, there’s the chance to hike with a local atop Mount Fløyen, affording views of the city and fjordland. Flåm presents the opportunity to take a boat tour along the winding UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord or to travel up high into the mountains aboard the Flåm Railway • Enjoy our Scenic Discoveries programme as Borealis cruises Norway’s longest fjord, Sognefjord, and the size-restricted Fjærlandsfjord, courtesy of a diversion.

Take a look at our faqs, what do i pack for a cruise.

The handy checklist below has been created to assist in making sure you remember all the important things to pack for your cruise.

Are there any visa requirements I need to be aware of?

Visa and health requirements can change at any time. It is your own responsibility to ensure that you check with a professionally qualified source and comply with such requirements. UK passport holders will need visas for certain Fred. Olsen cruise holidays and will advised at the time of booking. Your cruise booking information will also detail any requirements applicable to your holiday.

What's the difference between Freedom and Saver fares?

On certain sailings we offer two types of cruise fares; Freedom and Saver Fares.

I'm travelling alone, how will I get to meet people?

Our single guests feel right at home on board our ships; Fred. Olsen have the reputation of sailing the friendliest fleet afloat.

How do I get off the ship if we're at anchor?

Disembarking when your ship's at anchor is a very different experience to when it's docked portside. Getting ashore in this instance often involves the use of the ship's tender, which is accessed via the steps of a secure gangway.

Suez Canal cruise port

Region Africa - Indian Ocean Islands

Local Time 2024-03-08 17:46

Port Suez Canal cruise ship schedule shows timetable calendars of all arrival and departure dates by month. The port's schedule lists all ships (in links) with cruises going to or leaving from Suez Canal, Egypt. To see the full itineraries (ports of call dates and arrival / departure times) and their lowest rates – just follow the corresponding ship-link.

Suez Canal is a man-made, sea-level waterway in Egypt, connecting Mediterranean Sea to Red Sea. After 10 years of construction, Suez Canal was officially opened on November 17, 1869. It allows passenger and cargo vessels to travel between South Asia and Europe without navigating around Africa, this way reducing the sea cruise distance by around 7,000 km (4,300 mi).

The canal extends from Port Said 's northern terminus to Port Tewfik's southern terminus (at Port Suez). Canal's length is 193 km (120 mi), including its southern and northern access channels. World's other large canal waterway is Panama Canal - connecting the Atlantic Ocean with the Pacific Ocean.

In 2012, a total of 17225 ships traversed Suez Canal (47 vessels per day). The single-lane waterway features passing locations in Great Bitter Lake and Ballah Bypass. It doesn't contain any locks system as seawater is flowing through it freely. In general, north of Bitter Lakes, the canal flows south in summer and north in winter. The current changes south of the lakes, with the tide at Suez.

Suez Canal's (El Suweis/Suez Port's) locode is EGSUZ.

The Suez Canal is owned and maintained by the SCA (Suez Canal Authority) of Egypt. It may be used (under the Convention of Constantinople) "in time of war as in time of peace, by every vessel of commerce or of war, without distinction of flag".

Construction was launched in August 2014 to expand and widen Ballah Bypass for 22 miles (35 km) to speed canal's transit time. The expansion was expected to double the Suez Canal capacity from 49 to 97 vessels per day. At a cost of US$8.4 billion, the project was funded via interest-bearing investment certificates issued to Egyptian individuals and entities. On August 6, 2015 the "New Suez Canal" was officially opened. On February 24, 2016, the SCA opened the new side channel at the northern side of Suez Canal's east extension.

Suez Canal Area Development Project

On August 5, 2014, was officially launched the "Suez Canal Area Development Project" that aims to increase waterway's importance for international shipping trade, as well as to develop its three largest cities - Port Suez, Port Said and Ismailia.

The project involved building a new city, an industrial zone (SCZone / "Suez Canal Economic Zone"), fish farms, 7 tunnels (connecting Sinai with Ismailia and Port Said), improving the existing seaports (and transforming their cities into major trading centers), digging a new canal (2nd second shipping lane parallel to Suez Canal) to double the shipping capacity by allowing vessels to navigate both directions simultaneously. The second lane will decrease waiting hours from 18 to 11 hours and increase the cana;'s capacity from 49 to 97 vessels a day. Some parts of the old Suez Canal were dredged (deepened and widened). The Egyptian Armed Forces participated in the project by digging the new canal and tunnels, and also protecting the location from terrorists.

On November 8, 2017, Suez Canal Authority, SCZone and DP World ( Dubai -based corporation) signed a partnership agreement to develop an integrated industrial-residential zone at Sokhna . A joint venture company was established between SCZone and DP World (51 to 49). The new Sokhna Economic Zone (SEZ) is managed by DP World. Construction works started in 2018-Q1. SEZ covers a total area of 95 km2 (37 mi2) and includes an industrial area, residential zone (sized 20 km2 / 8 mi2). Development of Port Sokhna increased its capacity and linked it to the industrial zone. Zone's facilities serve smaller-sized industries (medical, electronics, communications, construction materials, textiles, auto parts, food processing, petrochemicals), logistics, service facilities. The residential zone (capacity 0,5 million people) houses coastal villas, residential units, shopping centers, nightclubs, entertainment facilities, mosques, schools, hospitals, green spaces.

On May 5, 2019, was inaugurated Ismailia tunnel (10-lane highway under Suez Canal connecting to Port Said East Port), which significantly improved connectivity between SCCT (Suez Canal Container Terminal) and Greater Cairo's industrial zones. Ismailia tunnel has per-hour vehicle capacity 2000 (in each direction). Both tunnel entrances are equipped with 10 scanners (each) processing vehicles and trailers with max capacity 250 units per hour. Six (of the 10) lanes are for trucks and trailers only.

Port Said's Suez Canal Container Terminal is managed by APM Terminals and serves mainly transshipment cargo via boxships between Southeast Asia and Mediterranean-Europe. Terminal's current annual capacity (as of 2019) is 5,4 million TEU-containers.

On August 9, 2019, through New Suez Canal transited one of world's largest container ships - MSC Gulsun, en-route from China to Northwestern Europe. The 23756 TEU-vessel has length 400 m, width 61 m, draught 16 m and GT tonnage 232,000 tons.

For FY2019, Suez Canal Authority reported revenues of USD 5,8 billion (1,3% increase over 2018 / USD 5,7 B). The waterway was transited by 18880 ships with total NT 1,2 billion tons (5/9% increase over 2018). Increased volumes (4,9%) were also reported for cargoes - 1031 million tons (983 M tons in 2018).

New Suez Canal (2023)

The new canal has total length 72 km (45 mi). The project involves dry digging (35 km / 22 mi) and dredging (37 km / 23 mi).

 • Construction works were initially scheduled to complete in 3 years, but Egypt's President ordered to be completed in 1 year.
 • The projected annual revenue from the doubled Suez Canal is ~USD 12,5 billion (from the previous USD 5B).
 • The new canal project's total cost is ~USD 1,7B. The project is domestic as no foreign investors were allowed.

For the period December 2020 through May 31, 2021, SCA-Suez Canal Authority reduced by 48% the transition tolls for VLCCs and ULCCs (Very-Large- and Ultra-Large Container Carriers) with DWT-deadweight tonnage 250,000+ tons. Transit fees for cruise ships were also halved if the vessels dock for min 48 hours in at least 2 Egyptian ports.

Due to the Coronavirus crisis, the Canal's revenues in FY 2019-2020 (fiscal year) decreased to USD 5,72 billion (USD 5,75 B in FY-2018-2019).

Suez Canal's expansion is currently planned for completion in July 2023. The project for adding a second lane/channel (started in July 2021) was accelerated after the boxship Ever Given (2018-built, IMO 9811000, capacity 20,000 TEUs, owned by Evergreen Marine ) ran aground (due to high winds) and blocked the waterway for 6 days (March 23-29, 2021).

On September 17, 2022, SCA issued new resolutions increasing the transit tolls in 2023 by 15% for all ship types, excluding only dry-bulk carriers and cruise ships (tolls increased just 10%). Tolls' increase was due to the current oil and gas shipping market changes, with daily charter rates (increasing over 2021) +88% for crude oil tankers and +11% for LNG tankers.

6 top luxury alaska cruises for 2024 & beyond.

Book a once-in-a-lifetime adventure to The Great Land on one of these top luxury ships.

Top Luxury Alaska Cruises

Cruising to Alaska on a small luxury ship affords a very different experience than sailing through The Great Land on a larger vessel. On a smaller luxury ship, you'll enjoy the expected perks like fewer passengers and more personalized service – but you'll also physically get closer to the boundless wilderness, abundant wildlife, icy blue glaciers and majestic snow-capped mountains that you've waited a lifetime to see.

While the fares to sail on such vessels are quite a bit higher than those of larger cruise providers, the all-inclusive (or mostly all-inclusive) prices typically include all-suite accommodations with balconies, all meals, alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, 24-hour room service, Wi-Fi access, gratuities, welcome bottles of sparkling wine, pillow selection, some shore excursions and butler service. Best of all, you won't feel like you're being nickel-and-dimed while on board. As a special touch, the attentive crew members may even learn your name and memorize your preferred pre-dinner cocktail.

Unlike many mainstream lines, most luxury Alaska cruises do not offer pre- and post-cruise tours to extend your adventure. However, you can plan these experiences on your own through third-party providers.

Alaska Tour & Travel has pre-cruise packages that include visits to Denali National Park & Preserve and the small, quirky Alaska towns of Homer and Talkeetna. You can also see a different side of Alaska via a train ride on the Alaska Railroad, take a national parks tour that includes Kenai Fjords National Park or head northbound to Fairbanks , one of the best places in the world to see the northern lights (if you visit during aurora season, from late August to late April). In addition, the company can plan a self-drive tour from Anchorage to Seward, which includes a stay at a wilderness lodge, helicopter flightseeing over Knik Glacier and guided tours in the parks.

The following luxury cruise lines will ensure you make the most of your voyage in Alaska – one of the most magical destinations on Earth.

Find your perfect cruise

Silversea Cruises

Silversea Cruises' small luxury ships are designed for adventurers interested in visiting a mix of Alaska's top ports and more rugged, off-the-beaten-track locales. Extended itineraries offer stops in less-visited destinations like the towns of Haines and Wrangell. On board, guests can expect a personalized experience that includes luxurious ocean-view suites with butler service, multiple gourmet dining options, complimentary alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, and attentive service with one of the highest crew-to-guest ratios in the industry.

Base fares for Silversea's 2024 and 2025 Alaska itineraries start at $3,250 per person. If you upgrade to Silversea 's door-to-door fare (which starts at $5,200 per person), you'll receive private chauffeur service from your home to the airport (and back home upon your return) and round-trip flights, with business class upgrades in some destinations.

Silversea also offers immersive pre- and post-cruise land experiences, departing from Seward, Alaska. Highlights include sightseeing flights over Denali National Park & Preserve or into bear country to see Alaska's magnificent grizzly bears. In Vancouver, travelers can take a flightseeing transfer to Victoria to tour the 55-acre Butchart Gardens or board the Rocky Mountaineer for a two-day train ride through the Canadian Rockies.

Silversea's Alaska itineraries extend from May to September, with voyages ranging between seven and 16 days. The line's newest and largest vessel, the 728-passenger Silver Nova , sails its inaugural Alaska season in 2024 along with two smaller ships, Silver Muse (596 guests) and Silver Shadow (392 guests). There are 35 Alaska voyages available in 2024. In 2025, luxury cruisers can hop aboard one of 45 scheduled voyages on either Silver Nova or the 596-guest Silver Moon .

For a seven-day itinerary, consider a sailing from Seward, Alaska, to Vancouver, British Columbia. This voyage cruises the Hubbard Glacier and the Inside Passage and stops in the Alaska towns of Juneau, Skagway, Sitka and Ketchikan. Complimentary excursions in Ketchikan include a tour of Saxman Native Village; a visit to Bonfire Bay Oyster Farm, featuring a sea-to-table oyster tasting; the Alaskan Cultural, Culinary & Lumberjack show; the Alaskan Lodge Adventure & Seafeast and a day as a fisherman aboard the Aleutian Ballard, as seen on Discovery Channel's "The Deadliest Catch." You can also opt for a Selected Shore Excursion (for an additional cost), such as mountain biking or a private fishing trip.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Regent Seven Seas Cruises' elegant Seven Seas Explorer sails the line's Alaska itineraries in 2024 and 2025. The lavish 746-guest ship was coined "The Most Luxurious Ship Ever Built" when it debuted in 2016; among its impressive features are the 3,875-square-foot Regent Suite and a high-end collection of art displayed throughout the ship, including works by Pablo Picasso.

Alaska voyages with Regent in 2024 and 2025 start at $4,799 per person. Upgraded 2-for-1 all-inclusive fares (starting at $5,499 per person) cover elegant all-balcony suite accommodations; round-trip airfare (business class on international flights); a one-night pre-cruise hotel package; free two- or three-night land programs; free unlimited shore excursions; free unlimited beverages (alcoholic and nonalcoholic); complimentary specialty dining; and prepaid gratuities. You'll also receive complimentary airport transfers, unlimited Wi-Fi access and valet laundry service.

Every suite style includes a private balcony, roomy closets and upscale finishes. Concierge Suites (and above) add cozy in-room amenities like cashmere blankets, perfect to bundle up in while you take in the scenery. Meanwhile, Penthouse Suites (and higher) include a private butler who can book excursions, make dinner and spa reservations, unpack your luggage, arrange for a private cocktail soiree in your suite and indulge any other special requests.

Between May and September 2024, Regent sails 22 Alaska voyages. There are 16 Alaska sailings scheduled for the same period in 2025. Itineraries range from seven to 14 nights. For plenty of scenic cruising days, consider a round-trip itinerary from Vancouver departing May 28, 2025. The cruise includes five relaxing days at sea, where you'll enjoy scenic cruising through the Inside Passage (twice), Hubbard Glacier (twice) and Endicott Arm Fjord. Ports of call in Alaska include Wrangell, Juneau , Skagway, Sitka, Seward, Icy Strait (Hoonah) and Ketchikan. You'll also have a full day in Victoria, British Columbia, before returning to Vancouver.

While in Wrangell, consider the Tongass Botanical Forest Walk excursion. Tongass National Forest is the largest national forest in the U.S., with towering old-growth trees and unique flora, fauna and ecosystems. While in the temperate rainforest with your naturalist guide, look for local wildlife like Sitka black-tailed deer, porcupines and birds of prey. Other complimentary excursions at this stop include a round of golf at Muskeg Meadows Golf Course; a canoe trip through Wrangell harbor and nearby islands, and a heritage tour about Tlingit culture and the history of the town.

Nobu restaurant on a Crystal cruise ship.

Recently relaunched Crystal offers just seven voyages in Alaska aboard Crystal Serenity in July and August 2024. The 740-guest luxury vessel was refurbished in 2023 and features the line's signature top-notch service, elegant interiors and suites, and personal butler service in every room category.

Other perks and amenities include plush bathrobes and Sicily's Ortigia bath products; an impressive passenger-to-crew ratio; prepaid gratuities; complimentary beverages; and outstanding cuisine, including Umi Uma (an exclusive Nobu restaurant at sea, available only on Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony ). Guests can also feast on Italian cuisine at Osteria d'Ovidio; book an exclusive dining experience at The Vintage Room; indulge in Parisian cafe-style fare at The Bistro; opt for American cuisine at Waterside Restaurant or take their pick of several other casual indoor and alfresco options.

Cruisers also have their selection of unique shore experiences curated by Crystal's parent company A&K Travel Group, such as a ride on the world's largest zip line in Hoonah (Icy Strait Point); dog sledding and glacier flightseeing in Skagway; fishing and wilderness dining in Ketchikan and the Wildlife Quest and Fin Island Lodge experience in Sitka, boasting a feast of Alaska king crab and wild salmon.

Crystal offers seven- and eight-night round-trip voyages from Vancouver , as well as one-way cruises from Vancouver or Seward, Alaska. Select itineraries – like the July 30, 2024, voyage from Vancouver to Seward – offer a scenic cruising day in the Seymour Narrows in British Columbia. On this sailing, you'll also enjoy a day at sea cruising Hubbard Glacier, as well as stops in Ketchikan, Sitka, Hoonah (Icy Strait), Skagway and Sitka in Alaska. Or, opt for the July 2, 2024, round-trip sailing from Vancouver for three scenic cruising days in the Inside Passage, Endicott Arm and the Seymour Narrows.

The line's Aug. 13, 2024, round-trip sailing from Vancouver features a special guest: Manfredi Lefebvre d'Ovidio, the executive chairman of A&K Travel Group. As such, the cruise will include an exclusive gala dinner and other unique experiences. Other special voyages welcome marine biologist and National Geographic photographer Flip Nicklin, who will share personal stories from his extensive career and expert insights about humpback whale habitats and behaviors.

H ollywood history will remember 2023 as the year of Barbenheimer . Since their releases on the same day in July, Barbie and Oppenheimer have dominated the box office, the awards circuit, and countless essays and op-eds. At the Oscars on Sunday, Oppenheimer is expected to sweep most of the major categories, including Best Actor (Cillian Murphy), Best Supporting Actor (Robert Downey, Jr.), and Best Director (Christopher Nolan), and Best Picture.

But even with those two blockbusters— Barbie grossed $1.4 billion worldwide and Oppenheimer was just shy of $1 billion—there were still plenty of hours left in the year for other entertainment. And if Netflix’s annual engagement report reveals anything, it’s that many people spent an astronomical amount of time watching Adam Sandler movies.

Since signing his first $250 million four-picture deal with the streamer in 2014, the 57-year-old Sandler has starred in eight movies for Netflix and produced several more through his Happy Madison production company. The majority of his back catalog of comedies are now licensed to the platform as well. In the first six months of 2023 alone, Netflix subscribers spent more than 500 million hours watching Sandler’s movies.

Or, as Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos explained when he re-upped the collaboration in 2020, “There’s no such thing as too much Sandler.”

Accordingly, Netflix has rewarded the prolific funnyman with not only one of the most lucrative contracts in the entertainment industry, but one with enormous creative freedom. Sandler’s three movies in 2023 included Murder Mystery 2 with Jennifer Aniston (who is ranked No. 6 this year), filmed in Paris and Hawaii as is his “ paid vacations ” custom. He also released You’re So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah starring his wife and daughters, and the animated movie Leo . Combined with his 44 stand-up comedy shows across the country, Sandler earned an estimated $73 million last year (after paying fees to his agent, manager and lawyer). It’s enough to make him the highest-paid actor of 2023 by a comfortable margin.

DON’T MESS WITH THE SANDMAN

For the first half of 2023, netflix viewers streamed more than 500 million hours of adam sandler movies. here’s what they like to watch.

In total, the 10 highest-paid stars combined to earn $449 million in 2023. They come almost exclusively from movies, rather than television, thanks in part to the writers’ and actors’ strikes that shut down Hollywood for half the year and delayed (or shortened) a number of TV seasons, and partially due to the now decades-long precedent that top movie stars can command up to $20 million up front for a single movie plus a percentage of its profits.

In the long run, starring in a hit movie at the box office remains Hollywood’s golden ticket. Unlike Netflix, which pays actors a premium fee up front and buys out their back-end profit participation over the next two years, a hit theatrical movie can continue to generate money in perpetuity—meaning actors with profit participation have no cap on the amount they can ultimately earn.

For example, Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, the stars of Barbie , are ranked No. 2 and No. 4 respectively on this year’s top 10 based solely on their estimated earnings from box office, video on-demand and the movie’s first streaming window. Their total compensation for starring in a cultural phenomenon will be considerably higher.

“I promise, Margot Robbie will be receiving Barbie checks for the rest of her life,” says one agent.

Robbie’s success is an outlier in another way. At 33, she is the youngest person on the highest-paid actors list by a decade, with the average age of the other nine north of 52. Older actors benefit from decades of residuals from past hits—such as Aniston with Friends —and also because Hollywood salaries are established by precedent, meaning the going rate for top stars is expected to match or rise from whatever they made for their last picture.

This grandfathering of salaries often makes it difficult for younger actors to break into the upper echelon. The same is true for actors of color, of whom only one is represented in the top 10 for 2023 (Denzel Washington at No. 10). Admittedly, it was a year in which many of the perennial highest-paid Black actors did not release a major movie. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson focused on his entrepreneurial endeavors such as Teramana tequila and the XFL, while his frequent on-screen collaborator Kevin Hart devoted more time to his stand-up comedy. And Will Smith, once the king of summer blockbusters, was still rehabbing his image in the wake of the 2022 Oscars slap . Eddie Murphy, Jamie Foxx and Samuel L. Jackson did most of their work on streaming services, where upfront fees are high but potential upside is capped. Still, blockbuster movies fronted by Black, Asian and Hispanic actors remain few and far between.

“The bottom line is, Hollywood is still a white-dominated industry,” says Darnell Hunt, Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost at UCLA and the author of the Hollywood Diversity Report. “There are a few actors of color who can command those salaries, and they’ve established a track record to command that. But the problem is, how many actors have been given the opportunity to develop that track record?"

Looking at the current release calendar, it’s quite likely that 2024’s ranking of the highest-paid actors will look very different. Most movies take years to develop, so while Robbie, Tom Cruise (No. 3 this year), and Leonardo DiCaprio (No. 7) set off to their next projects, 2024’s theatrical slate will feature Smith in Bad Boys 4 , Murphy in Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F and Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 3 . Several members of the impressive young cast of Dune 2 are also fronting multiple movies in the coming year, including Zendaya, Austin Butler and Anya Taylor-Joy. Plus, blockbuster TV shows like Yellowstone , Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Bear will have stars in the earnings mix.

Beyond the hefty salaries, what’s truly been earned by this year’s highest-paid stars is greater power within the industry, particularly the ability to negotiate for even more favorable deal terms on their next project. In an industry where pay can rise or fall based on each performance. this list represents a snapshot of who has the most leverage in Hollywood in 2024.

1. Adam Sandler • $73 million ($97 million gross)

In the first three months after Murder Mystery 2 was released on Netflix, the streamer reported that it was watched for a total of 173 million hours across the world and ranked in the Top 10 in 90 different countries. The sequel was part of a very busy year for the Sandman, who did more than 40 stand-up comedy tour dates in 2023 to go with three Netflix film projects.

2. Margot Robbie • $59 million ($78 million gross)

The cultural phenomenon that was Barbie took off last July and never really slowed down, grossing $1.45 billion at the worldwide box office and untold millions more in licensing and partnerships. As both the producer of the movie and its star, Robbie cashed in on roughly 12.5% of all back-end profits, which Forbes estimates will more than $60 million. Her now red-hot production company LuckyChap was also behind last year's much-buzzed-about satire Saltburn , and in February Robbie signed a new exclusive first-look deal with Warner Bros., the studio behind Barbie .

3. Tom Cruise • $45 million ($53 million gross)

The 61-year-old action star not only defies conventional wisdom when it comes to his outrageous stunt work, but also the evolving norms around how an actor gets paid. Cruise is one of the last, if not the very last, movie star who can still command the vaunted "first-dollar gross" deal, meaning he gets paid a percentage of box office and other revenues beginning the day it’s released, before the studio even recoups its money. In 2023, he cashed in on the latest Mission: Impossible movie and continued receiving streaming and on-demand profits for 2022's Top Gun: Maverick . And studios still clearly want to be in the Tom Cruise business—in January, he signed a new development deal with Warner Bros.

4. Ryan Gosling • $43 million ($50 million gross)

He may be just Ken, but the supporting role in the year's biggest movie was good enough for an Oscar nomination and one of the biggest paydays of the 43-year-old Gosling’s career. As an added bonus, his power ballad from the movie, “I’m Just Ken,” has been streamed over 100 million times on Spotify.

4. Matt Damon • $43 million ($50 million gross)

Many around Hollywood are rooting for Affleck and Damon's upstart Artists Equity studio to succeed, given its promise to help crew members and other below-the-line talent share in movies’ profits. Their first project Air —which starred Damon and was directed by Affleck—sold to Amazon before it ever went into production for an estimated $130 million. That figure was well above the movie's budget, ensuring there would be plenty of money to go around. In addition, the 53-year-old actor took a mere $4 million salary for his supporting role in Oppenheimer , far below his normal rate, in exchange for a small slice of the movie’s substantial profits.

6. Jennifer Aniston • $42 million ($56 million gross)

Friends residuals ensure that the artist forever known as Rachel Green doesn’t have to “go get one of those job things” ever again—yet the 54-year-old actress continues to star in both TV and movies. Aniston reportedly makes as much as $2 million for acting and executive producing each episode of The Morning Show on AppleTV+, and appeared alongside Adam Sandler in Murder Mystery 2 for Netflix, all while promoting brands like Uber Eats, Pvolve Fitness, Vital Proteins, and her own haircare line, LolaVie.

7. Leonardo DiCaprio • $41 million ($48 million gross)

The 49-year-old Oscar winner may have been snubbed by the Academy for his performance in Killers of the Flower Moon , but he’s doing just fine on the balance sheet. His starring role in the Martin Scorsese epic included a hefty salary as well as a buy-out of his theatrical profit participation once the movie hits AppleTV+.

Chris Pizzello/Invision/AP

7. Jason Statham • $41 million ($48 million gross)

Statham has been throwing punches, kicks and quips at every man, megalodon or Rock in his path for the last 20 years, and the 56-year-old actor’s earning power has never been higher. In 2023, he fronted three major big-budget franchises— Fast X , Meg 2: The Trench and Expend4bles —plus the Guy Ritchie spy caper Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre . And he’s currently the star of the highest-grossing movie of 2024, The Beekeeper .

Marilla Sicilia/Mondadori Portfolio/Getty Images

9. Ben Affleck • $38 million ($45 million)

When he’s not busy hawking donuts and plugging his new boy band in commercials for Dunkin’, Affleck serves as CEO of the studio startup Artists Equity (to Matt Damon’s chief creative officer). The 51-year-old multihyphenate directed and co-starred in Air , which grossed $90 million at the box office before moving to Amazon Prime Video.

George Pimentel/WireImage/Getty Images

10. Denzel Washington • $24 million ($28 million gross)

Tom Cruise isn’t the only sixtysomething movie star who can open a movie. The third installment of the Equalizer franchise was released in 2023, with all three entries crossing $190 million at the box office for one reason: Denzel Washington. In addition, the two-time Oscar winner’s robust back catalog going back nearly 40 years also produces a steady stream of cash each year for the 69-year-old actor.

METHODOLOGY

Estimations were calculated through interviews with agents, lawyers, managers, executives and industry experts, as well as data sources such as IMDBPro and Polestar. The figures represent pretax earnings for the calendar year 2023, minus fees for representation – 10% to agents, 10% to managers and 5% to lawyers, per industry standard, although some actors do not have all three.

Actors were credited for compensation on projects in the year they were released, despite the fact that often up front fees are paid when a movie is filmed, which could be years in the past, and back end participation is often paid several years into the future.

Additionally, the ranking only includes earnings related to entertainment—acting, producing, directing, or other forms of performance (such as stand-up comedy). Entrepreneurial endeavors not related to entertainment, such as beauty or spirits brands, were not counted.

Carnival's Christine Duffy Named to Most Influential Women in Travel List

Posted: March 6, 2024 | Last updated: March 6, 2024

Christine Duffy is a big name in the cruise and travel industry. She began her role as president of Carnival Cruise Line in 2015 and has since led the line to monumental growth, adding nine new ships to the fleet, including the line’s new Excel class – Mardi Gras, Carnival Celebration and Carnival Jubilee. Under her leadership, the line was the first to restart cruising following the pandemic pause in service. As we enter into International Women's Month, let's take a look at one of travel's most influential women.

Christine Duffy at the Carnival Venezia debut.

Carnival Cruise Line, like all cruise lines across the globe, was hit hard during the pandemic, since it had to stop operations entirely. Carnival was the first major cruise line to return its full fleet to service and since then, it's enjoyed massive success. In April, 2022, a few months before its 50th anniversary celebrations were held at PortMiami, the line reported its busiest 7-day booking period in its 50-year lifespan. The 50th anniversary celebration coincided with the debut of the Carnival Celebration.

Christine Duffy commented on the new booking record: "The excitement of the industry's restart, our successful return of our entire fleet, the guest reaction to Mardi Gras, our loyal guest response to our 50th birthday this year, the support of our travel advisor partners-and of course, the amazing work of our Carnival team-have all contributed to the strong demand we are seeing, and this record-breaking booking week."

Okay, maybe it's not that big of a secret that travel advisors hold a powerful and beneficial influence on the cruise line — one Christine Duffy fully supports through her leadership. She doesn't just make appearances at big trade events: she also attends travel advisor-specific conferences and events. The line has a strong travel advisor following, and it routinely offers travel advisor booking bonuses and other ways to support their important work. In the photo, Christine chose a group of travel advisors from Vacations To Go to help cut a ceremonial ribbon on the cruise line’s new flagship, Carnival Jubilee, before welcoming the ship’s first guests on board in Galveston, Tex. on Dec. 23, 2023.

Carnival Cruise Line is the Celebration partner of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, and in 2024, the line announced it surpassed its goal of raising $30 million in total by 2030. It has since increased its goals to raise $50 million by 2030. The line has been the organization's partner since 2010. As seen in the photo, Duffy and other members of the Carnival team also volunteer at the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis's annual Day of Play, supporting the children and their families that rely upon St. Jude's medical care.

Under Duffy's leadership, Carnival Cruise Line is transitioning to enhance its food and beverage outlets through a new celebrity partnership with Emeril Lagasse. He was appointed Chief Culinary Officer for the cruise line in December, 2022 and since then, he has elevated the line’s dining with fleetwide menu changes, new curated dishes and Emeril Selects signature menu items."Food is key to the fun of a Carnival cruise," said Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, in a statement in 2022. "Emeril's restaurants on our two new ships have been a great addition to our dining offerings and guests rave about the food, which will also be on Carnival Jubilee come next December. With Emeril's culinary expertise and broader profile on our ships, along with our wildly popular partnership with Food Network star Guy Fieri, Carnival will feature two iconic talents in the food and dining industry across our fleet."

Duffy placed the coin in the keel of the ship to bless the ship with good fortune at the Meyer-Werft Shipyard in Germany. It's the sister ship to the Carnival Celebration and Mardi Gras ships, and Carnival Jubilee calls Galveston, TX her homeport. "Carnival was the first cruise line to offer year-round cruising from Galveston in 2000, and we have continued to grow our presence and support of the Port of Galveston's expansion, so we are thrilled to bring our brand-new Carnival Jubilee to Texas and the greater southwest region," Christine Duffy, president of Carnival Cruise Line, said in a statement about the ship in November, 2021. "This beautiful, innovative ship will bring an entirely new cruise experience to our guests, and we've got some great surprises to fun it up in ways we know they are going to love."

Christine Duffy poses with the Carnival Jubilee's ship coin in Germany, part of the ship's keel laying ceremony.

Christine Duffy has been a powerful voice in the cruise industry, speaking at a number of important events, such as CruiseWorld 2023. In 2023, Duffy had a lot to be proud about with Carnival Cruise Line. One such achievement is Carnival becoming the first cruise line to sail 100 million guests across its fifty-one years in service! "We're the first cruise line to meet this incredible mark of 100 million guests and I believe it is a testament to the fun, inclusive atmosphere our valued guests and our extraordinary team members have created together on board our ships for the past 51 years," said Duffy in the announcement in March, 2023. "There is certainly much more fun to come. We're continuing to grow our operations at a rapid pace - with three ships joining our fleet by the spring of next year."

Christine Duffy participates in a panel at the 2023 CruiseWorld conference.

The Carnival Celebration hosted the 2023 Dreams Vacations National Conference, which Duffy participated in with panels and other discussions about the industry. In 2023, Carnival Cruise Line announced it was creating a new exclusive destination solely for the cruise line's use: Celebration Key, coming in 2025. It's located on the south side of Grand Bahama Island and will feature the largest freshwater lagoons in the Caribbean, beaches and other fun activities for Carnival guests to enjoy. Guests can learn more about Celebration Key’s amazing features here. Itineraries visiting the island are available to book now.“As the first port destination exclusively designed for Carnival Cruise Line guests, Celebration Key will provide the ultimate Carnival fun in the sun, immersed in the natural beauty of Grand Bahama. Our guests have a wide range of ships, homeports and itineraries that visit our new exclusive destination to choose from,” said Carnival President Christine Duffy in the official announcement.

Carnival Celebration Key ground breaking ceremony

Christine Duffy was instrumental as a voice of the cruise industry in restarting cruising following the COVID-19 pandemic. She and Micky Arison, former CEO of Carnival Cruise Line and chairman of both the FCCA and Carnival Corporation & plc, were two members of the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association's Return to Sail Summit, the first live meeting since the pandemic, held in June, 2021 discussing the restart of cruising. Collaboration and partnerships helped the entire industry to restart following the challenging pandemic era.

Christine Duffy chats with Micky Arison, former CEO of Carnival Cruise Line.

Carnival Cruise Line has received numerous awards during Duffy's tenure as president. More recently, Carnival won the Travel Weekly Reader's Choice Awards for 2023, named the best domestic cruise line, the best family cruise line, the best group program and the best cruise line for short itineraries.
