1.) Ram Janmabhoomi

Considered sacred by devotees, Ram Janmabhoomi marks the place where Lord Ram was born. The tale goes that Ram, an embodiment of Lord Vishnu’s seventh avatar, developed alongside Ayodhya’s river Sarayu. A sacred location for Hindu followers, the Ram Janmabhoomi commands immense devotion.

Two kilometres separate Ayodhya’s city core, where Ram Janmabhoomi is located. Known alternately as the Faizabad Airport in Faizabad, the Ayodhya Airport is situated around 8 to 10 kilometres from the Ram Janmabhoomi. Within a quarter hour to an hour, one can reach this place through a short drive.

Located around 1.5 to 3 km from Ayodhya Railway Station, the destination can still be reached via a short trek of approximately 20 minutes. Of Ayodhya’s bus stations, the most prominent one is the Ayodhya Bus Station situated near Ram Katha Park. Measuring 1.7 to 2.5 kilometres apart from Ram Janmabhoomi, this bus stop exists. Bus stands can be found at Faizabad Cantonment and Rajkiya Uddyan Cantonment Road, alongside the Circuit House.

2.) Kanak Bhawan

Located inside Tulsi Nagar, near the northeastern corner of the Ram Janmabhoomi stands Kanak Bhawan. Built in 1891, the temple is commonly called Sone-ka-Ghar. 1. Ram Janam Bhoomi

Although Ayodhya is popularly referred to as the birthplace of Shri Ram, there is a particular spot in the city where he was born. The place is marked by a temple known as the Ram Janam Bhoomi. In the same complex as the Ram Janam Bhoomi temple, there was a mosque which was built by Babur in the 15th century. Since then, this place has been surrounded by controversies, but to protect everyone’s religious beliefs, the government took control of this area. On the north-western side of the temple, another important temple known as Sita ki Rasoi is located.

2. Ram ki Paidi

Ram ki Paidi is the name of a series of Ghats near the bank of the Saryu river. This place draws a huge crowd of devotees who line up to take a dip in the holy water. Your trip to Ayodhya will remain incomplete if you miss the view of the Saryu river and attend the enchanting aarti held at night by the banks of the river.

3. Hanuman Garhi

One of the most important temples in Ayodhya, Hanuman Garhi is a temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman. The temple is located at a hilltop and one has to climb around 76 staircases to reach there to seek blessings from a 6-inch tall idol of hanuman. It is a popular belief that devotees must visit Hanuman Garhi before paying a visit to the lord ram temple.

4. Nageshwarnath Temple

The temple situated near the Ram ki Paidi is dedicated to Lord Shiva, Nageshwar Nath or the God of Snakes. The temple was built by Kush, lord ram’s younger son as a gesture of gratitude when Naag-Kanya, the daughter of a snake, found his armlet in the Saryu river and returned it to him. Nageshwarnath Temple is an architectural marvel that attracts people from across the country.

5. Treta ke Thakur

Treta ke Thakur which means Lord of the Treta Yug is a temple dedicated to Shri Ram. According to scriptures, the temple is built at the same place where Lord Ram performed Ashwamedha Yagya to celebrate his victory over Ravana. The temple has idols of Lord Ram, his wife Sita, younger brothers Lakshman, Bharata and Shatrughan, guru Vashishtha, King Sugriva and Hanuman. The temple opens on the eleventh day or the Ekadashi of the Hindu month of Kartik attracting devotees from different parts of the country.

6. Mani Parbat

Mani Parbat is a 65-feet high hillock of great mythological importance located in Ayodhya. According to the epic Ramayana, when Lakshman was wounded in the battle by Meghnad, the only medicine that could treat him was the Sanjeevani Booti. So, Hanuman uprooted the mountain, and while on his way to Lakshman, a part of the mountain fell at this place and is today known as Mani Parbat.

The hillock houses numerous shrines and the view from the top is mesmerizing.

7. Dasrath Bhavan

Constructed at the location of the original palace of the King Dasrath, father of Lord Ram, Dasrath Bhavan is the place where Lord Ram and his younger brothers spent their childhood and their youth. The vibe of the Bhavan is magical with the sound of dohas recited by the saints and the artists playing musical instruments heard throughout. The splendid architecture and peaceful ambiance make this place a must-visit when you are in Ayodhya.

8. Tulsi Smarak Bhawan

Tulsi Smarak Bhawan was built in 1969 as a tribute to the renowned poet and the author of the Ramayana, Swami Tulsidas. It is believed that Saint Tulsidas wrote the epic Ramayana at this place. The Bhawan houses a big library which is nothing short of a treasure for scholars and historians, and a museum called Ram Katha Sangrahalaya. The center is known for the Ram Leela performed here every day since 2004. The birthday of Tulsidas, Tulsi Jayanti is celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm every year.

How to reach Ayodhya

Ayodhya is located in proximity to numerous major cities including Lucknow, Varanasi, and Faizabad making it easily reachable by railways and roadways. You can also reach the city by boarding a flight.

By Air : If you wish to travel by air, the nearest international airport is Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport in Lucknow which is about 150 kilometers from Ayodhya. From here, you can either hire a private taxi or take a bus to reach the city. The nearby domestic airports are Varanasi and Kanpur located at convenient distances of 177 kilometers and 219 kilometers respectively.
By Road : If you choose to visit the city via roadways, the best option is to opt for the bus services that are available from major cities such as Lucknow, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, and Faizabad amongst others. These government-owned buses or private buses are operated regularly between the cities. The visitors also have an option to opt for deluxe buses and Volvo buses from cities like Delhi.
By Train : Ayodhya railway station is well connected with cities like Delhi, Kanpur, Varanasi, and Gorakhpur. You can hop on numerous trains that run between these cities to reach your destination. Another nearby railhead is the Faizabad railway station.

Best time to visit Ayodhya

The weather in Ayodhya is tropical with hot and dry summers, cool winters and pleasing monsoon. The best time to visit this religious place is between the months of November-March. During the end of March and beginning of April, people from different cities and countries visit Ayodhya in huge numbers to celebrate the birthday of Shri Ram, Ram Navami.

Summer (April – June)

Summers commence in April and continues until June in Ayodhya. The temperature remains between 28 degree Celsius and 45 degrees Celsius. The dry and hot summers result in unsuitable weather to visit and experience the serenity of this town.

Monsoon (July – September)

During the monsoons, the temperature in the city ranges from 24 degrees Celsius to 32 degrees Celsius. The pleasant atmosphere during this period makes the town look all the more charming.

Winter (November – March)

This temple is located at Ram ki Paidi and was set up by Kush, Lord Rama's son. Nageshwarnath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is one of the ancient temples of Ayodhya. Lord Shiva has many names, one of which is Nageshwar Nath meaning ‘lord of snakes’. Hindu devotees visit this temple every year during Shivratri and carry out the Shiv Baraat procession. It is a highly revered site for Hindu devotees and one of the most famous religious places in Ayodhya.

3. Mani Parbat

When Lord Hanuman uprooted a mountain to get Sanjeevani, i.e. a medicinal plant to cure the wounds of Lord Ram’s Brother Laxman, that is how Mani Parbat originated. It has been mentioned in the Great Indian Epic, Ramayana that Mani Parbat fell in Ayodhya and it is a small chunk of that same mountain that was carried by Lord Hanuman for Sanjeevani. It is one of the most beautiful, tourist attractions in Ayodhya since it offers breathtaking views from the top.

4. Ram Temple

Ayodhya is Ram Janmabhoomi which means the birthplace of Lord Ram. Ayodhya is surrounded by the Sarayu River which is considered to be a holy river. Hindu devotees from all across the country visit this place, especially on the occasion of Ram Navami and take a dip in this holy river. Ram Temple is going to be one of the best places to see in Ayodhya in the coming future. Its structure is designed to be the largest temple in India with a height of 161 feet and 28,000 square feet of area. It will be inaugurated in the year 2024. One of the most unique features of this temple is that it is being constructed with Ram Shilas. These are bricks inscribed with the name of Lord Rama. It is an upcoming tourist attraction being built in Ayodhya since it has a lot of stories and controversies associated with it. It will soon be open to all Hindu devotees and have a dedicated area to showcase the story of Lord Rama.

5. Hanuman Garhi

Hanuman Garhi is one of the most important places to see in Ayodhya. Devotees who come to visit the Ram Nagri are sure to visit Hanuman Garhi first since Lord Hanuman is the supreme devotee of Lord Rama. Hanuman Garhi is a 10th-century temple and one of the most visited temples of Lord Hanuman in India as it is customary to visit Hanuman Garhi before visiting the Ram Temple here. Many people believe that Lord Hanuman lived at the temple site to guard Ayodhya. It is home to a beautiful statue of Lord Hanuman sitting in the lap of his mother Anjani.

6. Ram ki Paidi

Many devotees visit this famous place in Ayodhya which comprises ghats located on the bank of the Sarayu River. It was built for the Ram devotees in 1984 so that they could take a dip in this sacred river. It is believed by many that the Sarayu River washes away all your sins and purifies your soul. There are 25 bathing ghats bordering the Sarayu river. It looks really beautiful on the full moon day or Purnima. When you visit Ram ki Paidi, you will find various hostels and places to change clothes nearby. You can also indulge in the North Indian delicacies in various restaurants near these ghats.

Another one of the best places to visit in Uttar Pradesh is Lucknow. It is popularly known as the ‘City of Nawabs’ located on the banks of the Gomti River. Lucknow is one of the most preferred tourist destinations in the U.P. because of its rich historical and cultural heritage. Its historical places such as Bara Imambara are primarily known for its incredible maze or Bhul Bhulaiya inspired by Mughal architecture. This is one of the most interesting tourist places to visit near Ayodhya. It has 1024 ways to get inside the maze but only 2 to come out of it. Moreover, it is also an important place of worship for the Muslim community. Muslims visit Bara Imambara every year to celebrate the festival of Muharram. Some of the other tourist places that you can visit in Lucknow are Moti Mahal, Chota Imambara, Juma Masjid, the 1857 Memorial Museum, Rumi Darwaza, Sikandar Bagh and many more.

The most visited tourist place near Ayodhya, Varanasi, also known as Kashi is the world's oldest living city. It is widely known as the spiritual capital of India. Varanasi is also called Benaras by the locals, it is one of Hinduism's seven holy cities. It lies along the western banks of the Ganges. This divine city is also important for the Buddhist community. This is because Lord Gautam Buddha preached his first sermon in Varanasi and its part is now in Sarnath. Many tourists who visit places in Ayodhya are sure to visit this colourful and indiscreet city. Since, it is known for its temples, ghats, and colourful inhabitants. Many Hindu devotees believe that taking a dip in the river Ganga can cleanse a lifetime’s worth of sin. So they come in huge numbers to Varanasi not just on religious festivals but all around the year. There are many places to visit in Varanasi, some of them are Panchganga Ghat, Manikarnika Ghat, Ramnagar Fort and Museum, Banaras Hindu University, Assi Ghat, Darbhanga Ghat, and Varanasi Ghat. But a must-visit place here is Kashi Vishwanath Temple. Since it is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva.

How to Reach Ayodhya?

To reach Ayodhya via flight you can simply take a flight to Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow. Alternatively, if you wish to come by train you can take a train to Ayodhya railway station from Lucknow, Kanpur, Allahabad, Varanasi, or Delhi.

You can visit all the tourist places nearby Ayodhya and then reach your final stop by taking a bus from any of the neighbouring cities such as Lucknow, Kanpur, Allahabad, etc.
