Disney Cruises From Miami in 2024 & 2025

The future of regularly-scheduled Disney Cruises from Miami is very much in doubt.

Consider the following:

  • Miami had been a regularly-scheduled departure port for Disney Cruise Line since late 2012, but no Miami departures have been scheduled since the Disney Magic last set sail from there on October 5, 2023
  • On November 20, 2023, Disney began year-round departures from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale — a mere 30 miles away from PortMiami — and solidified its long-term commitment by constructing a dedicated cruise terminal building there
  • Disney’s entire 2024 departure schedule has been released, and Miami is completely absent for the first time in 12 years
  • Disney has released 2025 sail dates through late May, with Miami again absent from the schedule so far

For these reasons, we believe it is highly unlikely that Miami will be a regular departure port for Disney Cruise Line for the foreseeable future.

One potential saving grace, however, is that Disney Cruise calendar for the entire fleet is being continually adjusted due to the additions of the newest Disney Cruise ships (Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, Disney Adventure, and another ship yet to be built). It remains to be seen if any of those will spend time departing from Miami in the future — but again, we would be somewhat surprised if they did.

We will keep you updated on the latest developments regarding the schedules and itineraries for the 2025 Disney cruises. Contact The Vacationeer for the latest Disney cruise pricing and availability.

Airports for Disney Miami Cruises

Image of a jet parked at an airport terminal, with service vehicles and luggage bins nearby

Flying into Miami International Airport (MIA) is the most convenient option for reaching the Port of Miami (unless you prefer to drive and don’t mind paying for parking).

Which Airport Should I Fly Into for a Disney Miami Cruise?

The main airport for cruising out of Miami is  Miami International Airport  (MIA). It is located approximately 8 miles from the Port of Miami.

Another option is  Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport  (FLL), about 25 miles from the Port of Miami.

For cruises from Miami,  it’s best to fly into Miami International Airport since it’s much closer to the Port of Miami. However, there could be cheaper or more convenient flights to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport . In that case, you may prefer that option. However, you will still need to take a taxi, rideshare, or shuttle service (which is more expensive than transportation from MIA).

What is the Best Way to Get from the Miami Airport to PortMiami?

The most suitable and convenient mode of transportation from Miami International Airport to PortMiami depends on your priorities and budget. Renting a car is an option, but it can be expensive. A popular alternative is to take a rideshare, taxi, or shuttle service.

We prefer using  a rideshare app like Uber or booking Disney’s official airport shuttle .

If you are looking for the cheapest way to get to PortMiami, take a ridesharing app like Uber or a taxi. For a seamless Disney experience, the official shuttle from Disney Cruise Line is the best option. Even though it provides a smooth and stress-free experience, a per-person fee is associated with it, which can become expensive for a family.

The cruise terminal is only 8 miles away, but traffic can be unpredictable. So allow extra time for your trip.

How Much does an Uber Cost from the Miami Airport to PortMiami?

The price of an Uber ride can fluctuate significantly based on your selected vehicle type and the distance traveled. Here is a rough estimate of the cost for an Uber ride from Miami International Airport (MIA) or Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) to the Disney Cruise Line terminal located at the Port of Miami.

The estimated cost of an Uber from MIA to Port of Miami (8 miles):

  • Uber X or Uber Green : $17.26
  • Uber XL : $28.32

The estimated cost of an Uber from FLL to Port of Miami (25 miles):

  • Uber X or Uber Green : $37.28
  • Uber XL : $66.07

How Much are Taxis from the Airport to the Port of Miami?

Taxis offer convenient transportation to the Port of Miami but are more expensive than similar ridesharing services like Uber.

  • Taxis are estimated to cost $39.44 from MIA to the Port of Miami.
  • Taxis are estimated to cost $96.11 from FLL to the Port of Miami.

Adding a tip to your Uber or taxi fare will increase these estimates.

How Much are Shuttles from Miami Airport to the PortMiami Hotels?

The cost of shuttles from Miami International Airport to PortMiami-area hotels varies depending on the type of shuttle service you choose. Although shared shuttles are a budget-friendly alternative, they often have a per-person pricing structure which may not be the most cost-effective option for larger groups. In such cases, dedicated vehicles such as Uber, Lyft, or taxis may be a more economical choice, especially for families. Nevertheless, here are the airport shuttle options.

Official Disney Shuttles

Disney Cruise Line’s shuttle transfers provide a hassle-free way to travel between Miami International Airport, Port of Miami hotels, and the Port of Miami cruise terminal. With a  per-person cost of $21  per leg, round-trip transfers cost $63 if you stay at a hotel or $42 for airport-to-port transfers. While the price may seem steep for families, the convenience and seamless connection to your Disney experiences makes it a worthwhile investment. The drivers also handle your luggage, making the journey even more stress-free.

Booking these transfers is simple: schedule a pickup, and the shuttle will take you to your desired destination. Reservations are required with Disney Cruise Line or a Disney Travel Agent.

Unofficial Airport Shuttles

Several independent shuttle companies offer a range of options for cruise-goers, including shared bus service, private mini buses, limos, and other private and shared vehicle options.  Express Shuttle Miami, Jayride, GoAirportShuttle, AirportShuttles, and AmericanShuttle  provide reliable and cost-effective transportation solutions for individuals or larger groups. These independent shuttles are an excellent alternative for those who want more control over their transportation arrangements, and the pricing can vary dramatically based on the vehicle you choose.

Even with these third-party shuttles, we still recommend the Disney Cruise Line shuttle for its competitive pricing and reliable service.

For ground transfers, call DCL at (800) 951-3532 to verify availability or contact  The Vacationeer  for assistance.  The Vacationeer  can handle your arrangements, saving you time and stress.

The Classic Disney ships are 984 feet long and 106 feet wide. This makes the Magic and the Wonder very manageable in terms of navigating around, but they are still large enough to have plenty for all the passengers to be entertained.

The Disney Magic can carry up to 2,713 passengers at full capacity. The 950 crew are from many different countries around the world.

Disney Magic Ship Features

disneycruisemiamiport

The Disney Magic has many features which are unique to Disney Cruise Lines. There is plenty for all ages to keep them entertained on this magical ship!

You will certainly find plenty of great food on the Disney Magic . All Disney Ships have a rotational dining concept for their three main restaurants. This means that all guests dine in each of the restaurants onboard.

The great thing about rotational dining is that your dining team will come with you. So they get to know your individual dining preferences.

disney cruise animators palate

All of the Disney Ships have the Animator’s Palate Restaurant. This is a highly innovative design where the theme is of course, animation.

Lumiere’s is named after the character in Beauty and the Beast. This French inspired restaurant is beautifully themed.

Rapunzel’s Royal Table is one of the most popular restaurants on any Disney Cruise Ship. Experienced a royal banquet with Rapunzel, Flynn Ryder, and the Snuggly Duckling Thugs.

Of course, there is plenty to keep the kids busy. Disney Cruise Lines kids clubs are the best at sea. They are completely free for ages 3 to 18. Disney Cruise Lines is also one of the few to have a Nursery to look after children aged 6 months to 3 years (there is a charge for this service).

disneyrainforestroom

There are plenty of things to keep the adults entertained too. A large part of the ship is exclusively reserved for the over 18s only. Relax at the Quiet Cove Pool, grab a coffee at the Cove Cafe, enjoy the Disney Magic Bars and adult-exclusive entertainment. For the ultimate in relaxation, you can visit the spa or even spend some time in the Rainforest Room. If you want a romantic dinner or brunch head to the adults-only Palo restaurant.

Entertainment on a Disney Cruise is the very best at sea. Expect Broadway-quality shows and you won’t be disappointed. Twice Charmed: An Original Twist on the Cinderella Story, Tangled:The Musical, and Disney Dreams and Enchanted Classic are the shows on the Disney Magic.

The Buena Vista Theater shows a large selection of movies. You may even be fortunate enough to be on board when there is a movie premier which will be shown on the ship.

There are so many ways to keep entertained on the Disney Magic. The AquaDunk is unique to the Disney Magic. Try it if you dare.

disneycastawaycay

Of course you can simply relax and enjoy some down time. Or maybe you want to explore one of the port stops on a Disney Cruise from Miami. The most popular is Disney’s Private Island Castaway Cay . All of the Disney Cruises from Miami have a scheduled port stop at this fabulous island.

You can choose just to relax on the beach at Castaway Cay, or join in one of the many Castaway Cay Activities.

Disney Cruise Miami Port

disney cruise miami july

The port of Miami is one of the busiest cruise ports in the World. The Disney Magic has, for many years, sailed out of Miami for part of the year.

There was much excitement in Fall 2018 when it was announced that there would be a new cruise terminal in Miami which would accommodate another, larger, Disney cruise ship at Port Miami.

The intention was for Disney to have a larger Disney cruise ship in the Port of Miami from January 2023 all year round which would sail 5 and 4-night departures. The plan was that in January 2024 Disney would also have a ship in Miami which sailed a 3 and 4-night rotation just as the Disney Dream does from Port Canaveral.

At the time we could have expected that the new Disney Cruise Ship the Disney Wish would have sailed out of Miami. Or maybe the second of the new Disney Trident Cruise ships.

There were also plans for the train Brightline extension to go from Orlando International Airport to Miami. Imagine being able to get on a train at MCO following your Disney World Vacation and arrive in Miami for your Disney Cruise Vacation.

However, we all know that the world has changed since 2018. And the cruising world has changed very much.

Fast forward to the world of 2020 and the plans for the Miami Port Expansion have changed. But there is still much to be enthusiastic about for the Disney Cruise fan. Disney will now share the new Miami Cruise Port Expansion with MSC Cruises. Details are still scarce but we will continue to update you when we know any further plans for the Disney Cruise Miami Port.

Disney Cruise Miami Port Address

There are currently seven Cruise Terminals in the Port of Miami. The Disney Cruise Miami Port Address is Terminal F, North Cruise Boulevard, Miami, Florida 33132.

Disneyland’s $1.9-billion expansion plan OK’d by commission, heads to Anaheim City Council for final approval

Dubbed DisneylandForward, the plan is not specific about what exactly Disneyland plans to build.

Good morning! It’s Wednesday, March 13. I’m Carol Cormaci, bringing you this week’s TimesOC newsletter with a look at the latest local news and events.

Anaheim’s largest employer, long a dominant player in local politics, received the blessing of the city’s planning commissioners Monday night to move ahead with the DisneylandForward project. This proposed expansion of the “Happiest Place on Earth” would be the start of “at least $1.9 billion of new development at the Anaheim resort over the next 10 years, according to Disney officials.

L.A. Times reporters Summer Lin and Grace Toohey wrote about the commission’s 5-1 decision in this story published shortly after Monday night’s vote.

Specific plans for new attractions are not mentioned in the proposal, according to Lin and Toohey’s report, “but Disney officials have offered a vision for possible additions, such as immersive Frozen, Zootopia, Tron or Peter Pan experiences similar to those at Disney’s locations in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Tokyo.”

Items that are outlined in the proposal include “an increase of 4,376 theme-park-related parking spaces, as well as a variety of traffic improvements, including adding bike lanes and pedestrian bridges and absorbing some local roadways into Disney’s oversight,” the article states.

The development is expected to produce more economic output and tax revenue , according to an analysis commissioned by the Walt Disney Co. If approved, the new agreement would call for Disney to provide $30 million for affordable housing within five years, $40 million for street and transportation improvements and $10 million for sewer upgrades.

The proposal has been put through the hoops, having been studied by city officials and residents for nearly three years, including in a recent community workshop, The Times reports, but it’s not quite finished. Next it goes to the Anaheim City Council, probably next month, for final approvals.

The fire burns at the former Tustin Air Base on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2023.

• Stuck with huge bills incurred since the huge hangar fire at the former Marine Corps Air Station last September, the city of Tustin is looking for help. Tustin has incurred more than $90 million in cleanup costs, according to this TimesOC story by my colleague Gabriel San Román. The U.S. Department of the Navy, which owns the property, has so far paid the city $11 million and was expected to pay another $13 million by last Tuesday’s City Council meeting but had not. “We need that money, we need it now,” Mayor Austin Lumbard said. “We need a whole bunch more right after that. Things are going to get a little spicy if we don’t get [it].” The city expects asbestos debris cleanup and analysis to take several months to complete. Three local state legislators, Sen. Josh Newman (D-Fullerton), Sen. Tom Umberg (D-Santa Ana) and Assemblywoman Cottie Petrie-Norris (D-Irvine) are pushing for $100 million in federal supplemental funds in a resolution that would first have to gain the approval of both houses of the state Legislature.

• The oil sheen seen off Huntington Beach on Friday may have been caused by natural seepage. Originally suspected to have been an oil spill, a Coast Guard investigation had not provided definitive information as of earlier this week, The Times reported . The location of the seep is not far from the site of a large spill in 2021 that occurred when a ship’s anchor punctured an underwater oil pipeline in San Pedro Bay. The preliminary laboratory results show the sheen is “lightly weathered crude oil” and not a refined material like gasoline or diesel, the Coast Guard said in a statement.

• As of Monday, 613,529 Super Tuesday ballots had been tabulated in Orange County, and 80,000 -plus remained to be counted. The county has 1,819,334 registered voters. To see how people voted in local school board and other races, check out The Times’ live results page .

PUBLIC SAFETY

A wanted poster shows a gray-haired man in shorts handling equipment on a metal pole amid weeds and grass.

• Police are searching for a man believed to have been damaging wildfire-detection equipment in open spaces in Irvine , The Times reported Thursday . Irvine police released images on Facebook and Instagram showing a man they said tampered with the fire detection devices on at least two different occasions. Police did not specify when the devices were damaged but did say the man was seen riding a black bicycle. Anyone with information about the man is asked to contact police at [email protected] .

• A man died last Wednesday after Fullerton police shot him multiple times with ” less-lethal ” beanbag rounds. The manager of a McDonald’s on South Brookhurst Road called police at about 3 a.m. March 6 to report two men standing outside the business who appeared to be under the influence of drugs, according to The Times article about the incident . One of the men began to swing a belt at officers as they approached him. They were unable to subdue him with a Taser gun, so they used the “less-lethal” rounds to bring him down. He was treated at the scene but later died of his injuries at a hospital. The incident is under investigation by the Orange County district attorney’s office.

• Three women suspected of taking off with more than $3 ,000 in CVS merchandise were arrested by Huntington Beach police this week . Maria Parnica, 18, Daniela Ciuciu, 25, and 19-year-old Maria Hornea, all residents of Anaheim, were arrested and booked on charges of grand theft shoplifting and organized retail theft with the intent to sell, exchange or return.

• An Irvine man has been sentenced to 33 months in prison for embezzling from a Newport Beach firm. Between 2008 and 2022, Varun Aggarwal, now 42, was an internal auditor at KBS Realty Advisors. In that capacity he faked invoices for consulting services, or for work at inflated prices. Aggarwal received more than $2.7 million from the scheme and resigned in January 2022 when the invoices were being investigated, according to court documents. In addition to giving him prison time, Judge Cormac Carney required Aggarwal to pay $2,729,718 in restitution .

• A Laguna Niguel man involved in a standoff with Orange County sheriff’s deputies was charged yesterday with two counts of attempted murder. City News Service reported the neighborhood around the 31000 block of Golden Lantern was locked down briefly Saturday night after Justin Derek Jennings, 39, fired his weapon and nearly struck deputies and a sheriff’s helicopter. The law enforcement officials had been called to investigate a report that a man had fired a rifle inside a home during a family dispute.

Player Brian Illoski greets the press on media day for the Orange County Soccer Club.

• Orange County Soccer Club is looking ahead with optimism, the Daily Pilot reports . My colleague, Matt Szabo, spent some time with club members during a recent media day at Championship Soccer Stadium in Irvine. He reports that last year, coach Morten Karlsen, who took over in the middle of the season, led the team from 11th place to second in the United Soccer League Championship Western Conference. The club is preparing for its home opener, March 23 against Miami FC.

2023 Hoag Classic Champion Ernie Els drives the ball off the 16th hole tee at the Newport Beach Country Club.

• The Hoag Classic returns to Newport Beach Country Club next week. Gates open daily at 8 a.m. Wednesday, March 20, through Sunday, March 24. The full schedule of events can be found here . Last year’s champion, Ernie Els , is eligible to play along with other World Golf Hall of Fame members, major PGA champions and legends of the game who will compete for the $2-million purse. Over the years, the Hoag Classic has raised more than $25 million for Hoag’s program and services, as well as other local educational and military charities.

LIFE & LEISURE

Arturo Mandujano Jr. pours a latte at MoonGoat.

• ‘Community first’ is the unofficial motto of the co-founders of MoonGoat Coffee Roasters. The owners put the focus on the people of Orange County, noting there is a unique vibe here they hope to capture. The roastery recently opened its fourth brick-and-mortar location in UC Irvine Research Park, and it’s already become a popular place to hang out , according to this feature story by my colleague, Lilly Nguyen.

• Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach is offering specially priced tickets for this summer’s shows, only through Sunday, March 17 . The lowered prices for the pageant’s production of “À La Mode: The Art of Fashion” applies to Monday through Thursday evening performances from July 6 to Aug. 30. Carnival Cruise Line to get 4th Excel-class ship, sister to Canaveral’s Mardi Gras

C arnival Cruise Line made a splash with the debut of Excel-class ship Mardi Gras out of Port Canaveral in 2021 and has since followed up with sister ships Carnival Celebration from Miami in 2022 and the new Carnival Jubilee sailing out of Galveston, Texas.

Now the three sister ships will get a fourth sibling, as Carnival Corp. announced Tuesday it has ordered construction of a new ship from the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, for a debut in spring 2027.

It’s actually the 10th Excel-class ship across Carnival’s brands that also includes the new Princess Cruises’ Sun Princess set to debut this year and begin sailing from Port Everglades this fall.

The class of ships run on liquefied natural gas, a cleaner burning fuel that’s part of cruise lines’ efforts to reduce carbon emissions. Mardi Gras became the first LNG-powered cruise ship to homeport in North America when it began sailing from Port Canaveral on July 31, 2021.

Disney Cruise Line’s new ship Disney Wish followed soon after along with Celebration out of Miami and Royal Caribbean’s new Icon of the Seas.

The 180,000-ton ship will have a 6,400-guest capacity. It’s the first new ship ordered by Carnival Corp. in five years with only one new ship among its cruise lines expected in 2025 and none in 2026.

“Building on our strong performance and growing momentum around the world, we are excited to resume our newbuild program and further enhance our global fleet with yet another state-of-the-art ship that will wow Carnival Cruise Line’s guests,” said Carnival Corp. CEO Josh Weinstein in a press release.

Carnival’s fleet recently grew to 27 ships as it took on and rebranded two vessels from sister cruise line Costa — Carnival Venezia in 2023 and Carnival Firenze, which will begin sailing with passengers in April. Carnival Venezia will begin winter Caribbean sailings out of Port Canaveral beginning in December.

Mardi Gras, Celebration and Jubilee, though, are the line’s premier vessels and largest in the fleet, each featuring the nearly 800-foot-long Bolt roller coaster, a neighborhood approach to the ship layout and the most cabin categories such as the family-friendly Family Harbor and adults-only Havana Cabana options.

“Our Excel-class ships have been a tremendous addition to the Carnival fleet and proven very popular with our guests,” said Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy in the release. “As the world’s most popular cruise line, this new ship enables us to continue the growth of our incredible fleet.”

At dawn, fans line up at Jetty Park to see the Carnival Cruise Line ship Mardi Gras arrive at Port Canaveral, Florida, on June 4, 2021.
