Indian residency.

We had a really great stay at Indian Residency. The owner, his family and staff were extremely kind and they care a lot about their guests. Srirangam island is an extraordinary place and although the residency is outside the main city it is close enough for convenient tuktuk service. The twin room was huge in comparison to most homestays in Tamil Nadu and the marble floor kept the place really cool along with the AC. There are nice basic amenities in the room for guests too.

Radisson Blu Resort Temple Bay Mamallapuram

The pool is open after the Tamil Nadu government lifted restrictions and it's a fantastic way to relax. The buffet breakfast is excellent and the food overall is very good. There are plenty of things to do - bicycling, beach, etc. and the spa is a decent value with friendly and professional staff. The hotel staff overall are fantastic from the check in to the wait staff. Very conscientious and attentive, really one of the hotel's best qualities.

Bairava Bliss Inn

Rāmeswaram

My best hotel since the beginning of my trip in Tamil Nadu. Quiet and clean room, nice bathroom, and a very large and quiet terrace, perfect for staying in the evening. A few touches with little shampoo, bottles of mineral water. The hotel is in a good location, less than 8 minutes walk from the temple. Suresh and all the staff are nice and friendly, doing everything to help me from start to finish. I highly recommend!

Hotel TamilNadu - Yercaud

Actually I was very happy with the stay at Hotel Tamil Nadu for a night. Room was neat and bathrooms were awesome. Had good space in room and had complimentary breakfast benefits . Would highly recommend the hotel to my friends. Worth the money and exceeded my expectations at affordable rate. Thank you !!

Hotel in Kānādukāttān

One of the most beautiful small hotels that I have stayed in for a very long time - painstakingly renovated but still comfortable and inviting. Lovely staff and the nicest dose that we ate during our week-long trip to Tamil Nadu. An added plus are the charming hosts and lovely pool.

It was indeed a wonderful and memorable moment for me and my colleagues The views are breath taking, the model and design of the room is just wow. When Next I visit India (Tamil Nadu) this is going to be my number 1 place. It´s a perfect location for outstanding vacation

How to Find the Best Hotels in Tamil Nadu (and Avoid the Worst)

Finding the best hotels in Tamilnadu can be tricky. There are hundreds of choices but you can’t always trust the pictures and reviews online. Read on for help finding and booking the best Tamilnadu hotels.

(Don’t miss: Our posts about the ways India will surprise you and where to eat in Tamil Nadu ) →

Visited relatively little compared to India’s northern provinces, Tamilnadu can be a fantastic destination for tourists looking for a unique India experience.

(Don’t miss: Our guide to Tamilnadu restaurants and South Indian food) →

So read on to learn…

What’s in our guide to hotels in Tamilnadu?

1. How to Say Hotel in Tamil 2. Tips to Book Hotels in Tamilnadu Online 3. Your Tamil Nadu Hotel Check-in Checklist 4. Hotels in T.Nagar Chennai 5. Mamallapuram Hotels 6. Pondicherry Hotels 7. Chidambaram Hotels 8. Trichy Hotels 9. Yercaud Hotels

People are extraordinarily friendly in Tamilnadu (even in the big cities) and you won’t be harassed as much as you might be in Northern India. It’s also less crowded than many states and there are fewer tourist scams to look out for.

Tamilnadu is the only place we’ve visited in India so far, and we were surprised by just how different it is to the India we’ve heard and read so much about .

Tamilnadu Tourism Hotels

One thing that surprised us was the difficulty in finding good, budget-friendly accommodation in Tamilnadu.

For those of us who are used to going online, looking at a few pictures, reading some reviews, and then clicking “Book Now”, looking for hotels in Tamilnadu can be a bit of a shock. There are more hotels rated in the 6.0 to 7.0 range than I’ve seen anywhere else in the world – but the prices aren’t cheap enough to make up for the bad reviews.

How to Say Hotel in Tamil

Wondering how to say hotel in Tamil?

The word “hotel” is written like this:

It is pronounced “Viṭuti” in Tamil.

It’s nice to learn some of the local language, but we found that everywhere we went, locals spoke English as well as Tamil.

Note that sometimes the word “hotel” in English can mean “restaurant” and sometimes it means a place to sleep. So if you find a hotel and they only serve food, don’t be confused!

Tips to Book Hotels in Tamilnadu Online

Unlike in other regions of the world, it seems as though the big hotel booking sites don’t have comprehensive hotel listings for Tamilnadu.

Instead, many hotels are on just one online booking site. This means that you have to search several sites to find the best hotels.

A couple of sites to check if you are looking for Tamilnadu tourism hotels are:

  • Booking.com

Just be warned. The pictures and descriptions of Tamil Nadu hotels online rarely mathed the hotels AT ALL in real life. Often, the pictures online seemed to be of the hotel when it was brand new, and now it’s 10 years later, with no maintenance (or cleaning) in between.

tamilnadu hotels

There are zillions of hotels available in Tamilnadu, even in the smaller towns. However, many of them are also filthy, uncomfortable, and insalubrious places to spend the night . So book early or you might miss out on the few places that are well-priced and welcoming.

We found our best hotels in Tamilnadu the old fashioned way. We just showed up in town and then pounded the pavement until we found a good one.

If you don’t want to spend half of your trip to Tamil Nadu going in and out of different hotel rooms, use our guide to finding the best Tamil Nadu hotels.

Your Tamilnadu Hotel Check-in Checklist

Always go through this checklist before you check in to your hotel in Tamilnadu. You really can’t tell by the outside what the room and the services will be like.

  • Does the WiFi work? Test it before you check in if being online is important to you. More often than not it doesn’t work or just barely does.
  • Are the bed sheets clean or are they covered in stains?
  • Is the bathroom decent?
  • Are the windows securely closed and without any gaps or spaces to the outside? (This is to keep mosquitoes out).
  • Is the bed reasonably soft and solid?
  • How much street noise is there in the room?
  • Does the room smell like open sewer or mothballs?
  • Is it an 11am checkout or a 24-hour checkout (meaning you have to check out 24 hours after you check in)?

Recommended Hotels in T.Nagar Chennai

We chose to stay in the T.Nagar area of Chennai because it is close to Pondy Bazaar and we needed to shop for new clothes . It’s a bustling busy district with an excellent selection of stores, hotels, and restaurants.

If you’re trying to book budget hotels in Chennai online, in addition to the site listed above, you can also check Oyo. Oyo Rooms reviews independent hotels and allows them to join the site only if they meet the requirements (like having clean linens, free WiFi, AC rooms etc).

Oyo Rooms also has listings for some of the other big Tamilnadu cities, like Madurai and Trichy.

The budget hotel chain FabHotels is also a good bet in Chennai.

FabHotel Pearl

hotels in tamilnadu

If you’re looking for cheap hotels in Chennai’s T Nagar district, this FabHotel is an excellent budget choice. Right near the famous shopping district Pondy Bazaar, FabHotel Pearl is quiet with comfortable rooms.

Plus, it looks much better than the average budget hotel in Tamilnadu. If it had been open when we were in Chennai, we definitely would have stayed here.

Pebbles Serviced Apartments

hotels in tamilnadu

This popular serviced apartment has a central location, just 800 m from Pondy Bazaar, while the US Embassy is only 1.6 km away. Just be aware that these aren’t really apartments – just big hotel rooms, so you won’t have a kitchen or living room! The rooms are clean, spacious, and convenient, in a secure modern building.

Check prices for Pebbles Serviced Apartments →

Treebo Majestic Inn

hotels in tamilnadu

When we were in Chennai, we stayed at another Treebo location (Treebo Bluten) which was fairly nice but now has not-great reviews online. The Treebo Majestic is newer, well-reviewed, and very close to Pondy Bazaar. Room rates also include a buffet breakfast.

Check prices for Treebo Majestic Inn →

Where We Stayed in T.Nagar Chennai

I wouldn’t necessarily recommend either of these hotels in Chennai but thought you could still benefit from our experience at them!

OYO Flagship 321 T Nagar, Pondy Bazaar

tamil nadu hotels

The only OYO hotel we managed to stay in during our time in Tamil Nadu was this one in Pondy Bazaar, which I chose because it’s in the center of the shopping district. Sadly, it wasn’t nearly as “boutique” in real life as Oyo Rooms seemed to promise.

  • Great location (if you like to be in the heart of the action)
  • Really nice owner and extremely helpful staff
  • Decent free breakfast
  • Close to several good restaurants

Oyo Rooms Tamil Nadu

  • It’s on the third floor of an India “mall” which opens right onto the street – it didn’t feel very secure and the building itself was filthy and a little depressing
  • The rooms are pretty run down – they don’t look like they do on the OYO Rooms website
  • Could have been much cleaner
  • WiFi is slower than molasses in February

Check prices for this OYO Rooms hotel →

Treebo Bluten, T Nagar, Chennai

hotels in tamilnadu

On our return to Chennai, I decided that our one OYO Rooms adventure was enough, so we went slightly more expensive at Treebo Bluten, also in the T Nagar area.

Treebo Bluten is on a quiet side street lined with upscale homes – one of the quietest spots we saw anywhere in Chennai. It is in quick reach of the shopping and restaurants of Pondy Bazaar and spitting distance from the Apollo Medical Clinic should you need any medical assistance.

As with almost everywhere we stayed in India, Treebo Bluten would have been much improved by a woman’s touch (sexist maybe, but so darn true). However, it was clean and comfortable, with a decent bathroom, WiFi that usually worked, and good air conditioning.

The staff were on hand to help us with every need — except for that early morning we came down to find them all asleep in the lobby.

Check prices for Treebo Bluten →

Mamallapuram Hotels

Silver moon guesthouse, mamallapuram.

hotels in tamilnadu

We are so sad we didn’t choose the Silver Moon Guesthouse in Mamallapuram. We stopped by while in town and, in contrast to our shabby accommodations, Silver Moon looks like it has been well maintained and frequently cleaned.

The prices were cheaper too, and the rooms are bright and seemed comfortable. To top it off, the staff at this guesthouse and cafe were pleasant and helpful.

Check prices for Silver Moon Guesthouse →

Where We Stayed in Mamallapuram – Hotel Ramakrishna, Mamallapuram

First, let me just say, DO NOT STAY HERE. I’m not linking to it so that you don’t make the mistake we did.

Hotel Ramakrishna wins the award for “least like its internet profile”. The room we stayed in is actually shown on their Booking.com profile. It’s just that instead of new furniture, sparkling white sheets, and stylish wallpaper as is shown online, the room had a blood-stained blanket, dingy grey sheets, mildewing paperless walls, and a filthy bathroom instead.

In 2006, Mamallapuram was hit by the tsunami that devastated so many locations in the area and the Hotel Ramakrishna has obviously not been refurbished since. All of this would not be so terrible if the hotel were not so ridiculously overpriced. They added 25% at check in for taxes and “service fees”, too. Yuck.

Pondicherry Hotels

L’escale, pondicherry.

hotels in tamilnadu

This little hotel with a single room on each floor is as close to a boutique hotel as we saw in India. It’s very well-run and maintained, with more charm and personality than your average Indian hotel.

The owner is friendly and full of good advice, while the hotel dog will charm you until you get sucked into showing her some love (after which she’ll never leave you alone). The WiFi is tremendously slow, as is to be expected in Tamil Nadu, and stopped working altogether at frequent intervals.

The breakfast was underwhelming, but the breakfast lounge on the rooftop has gorgeous views of the Bay of Bengal. There’s also a comfy lounge area where you can spend lazy afternoons enjoying the sea breeze.

Check prices for L’Escale →

La Closerie, Pondicherry

hotels in tamilnadu

If you want to go upscale in Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry is the place to do it. Directly across from L’Escale is La Closerie, and every time we walked by we practically drooled over the colonial mansion and quiet courtyard pool. If you’re in the mood for some old world luxury (for around $60/night), La Closerie is the place for you.

Chidambaram Hotels

Vandayar hotel, chidambaram.

We think Vandayar might be the best hotel in town, but it was still fairly rotten – literally, parts of the bathroom walls were rotting away and the bathroom door looked like it had been recently rescued from the garbage dump. The bath towels looked like they should be taken immediately to said dump.

Here’s a little video walkthrough of Vandayar I made one day when I stayed home “sick”.

Our bed was decent and the sheets were almost white. Of course, we got the cheapest room, which was still on the high end of our budget (around $35 per night). If you want a little extra comfort, check out their deluxe rooms; they are in a different wing and perhaps they have been more recently refurbished.

Either way, bring earplugs. The Vandayar Hotel is directly across from the bus station, where bus horns sound on an endless loop all day and much of the night.

tamil nadu hotels chidambaram

The restaurant at Vandayar serves a tasteless buffet breakfast with soggy medu vada and uninspiring curries. They also had the distinction of making the worst tea and coffee we’ve ever been served.

The major selling point of Vandayar is the WiFi, which was excellent and speedy – the only decent WiFi we encountered in India.

Other Hotels in Chidambaram, Tamil Nadu

We didn’t look at any other hotels in Chidambaram, but if you want to go a bit easier on your budget, Hotel Akaysha might be worth a look.

Tiruchirappalli / Trichy Hotels

Vijey hotels.

hotels in tamilnadu

After a few wrong turns trying to book hotels in Tamilnadu online, we decided to just arrive in Trichy and find a hotel the old-fashioned way – legwork. Turns out we didn’t have to use our legs too much.

The first place we saw after getting off the bus was Hotel Vijey, a modern construction set back from the road. We could tell it had promise because out front, two men were working hard to put up a brand new bamboo fence. This led us to believe that other glorious maintenance work had been done around the place in recent years.

(You won’t really understand why that’s a big deal until you’ve stayed in some of India’s old hotels. It seems many were put up by some well meaning soul in another century and then left to stand and rot while management still somehow convinces people to stay there.)

We saw two of the least expensive class of rooms, and both were spotless, with modern fixtures in the bedroom and bathroom.

If you have the cash, do yourself a favour and opt for a second-floor room to avoid the stench of the first-floor hallway, where an open sewer drain is located. If you’re broke like us, hold your breath whenever you leave your room!

WiFi does work in the room, but it’s molasses slow. Free (really delicious) breakfast.

Yercaud Hotels

hotels in tamilnadu

There are lots of decent-looking options for hotels in Yercaud, but you should forget about all of those and reserve a room at Rams Inn. By the time we arrived here, I had learned not to even hope that the hotel would resemble its internet pictures or be anything more than just a place to keep our stuff and sleep.

Rams Inn Yercaud came as a huge surprise. It is better than it looks online and has wonderful views of a jungle-like coffee plantation outside. Also, it is managed by the nicest man we’ve met at any hotel in India.

Not only that, but all the light fixtures work, the walls have been recently painted, the linens are spotless, and the bathroom is clean and modern. It almost seems too good to be true.

As I write this I am looking out the window onto a gorgeous green hillside and listening to the evening chorus of frogs. Just magical.

History of tamil nadu.

History of Tamil Nadu | Tamil Nadu Tourism

History of Tamil Nadu | Tamil Nadu Tourism

Tamil Nadu shows evidence of continuous habitation from 15,000 to 10,000 BC. The region had been ruled by several dynasties including the Cholas, Chalukyas, Pallavas , and Pandyas . During the reign of the Cholas, Tamil Nadu witnessed architectural accomplishments including the Thanjavur Temple and a golden age of Tamil literature.

In the modern times, the Portuguese and French also ruled the area. By the 17 th century, the British took control and under their rule, the region was part of Madras Presidency. Post-independence, in the late 1960s, the state of Tamil Nadu was formed.

Geography & Climate

Tamil Nadu is bordered by Andhra Pradesh in the north, Kerala in the west, Karnataka in the north-west, the Bay of Bengal in the east, and the Indian Ocean in the south. The state shares its maritime border in the south with Sri Lanka. Bounded by the Eastern Ghats, Nilgiri Hills and Meghmalai Hills, much of the western, southern and northwestern parts of the Tamil Nadu are hilly. The rivers that flow through the state include the Kaveri, Thamirabarani, Bhavani, and Vaigai.

The period from November to March is the ideal time to visit Tamil Nadu. Though the summers here are pretty hot, you can plan a visit to its hill stations during these months.

Cuisine of Tamil Nadu | Tamil Nadu Tourism

Tamil Nadu cuisine is quite versatile and is an amalgam of different cultures and cooking styles. A typical vegetarian meal consists of rice , sambar , kara kuzhambu , rasam , curd, poriyal , varuval , kootu , keerai masiyal, aviyal, pachadi , appalam , oorukai and payasam . However, different parts of the state have developed their own unique regional cuisines. While the Chettinad region is known for chicken Chettinad , idiyappam, uthappam, and paniyaram, the Madurai region is popular for muttaiparotta , paruthipal,  and Karidosai . While in Tamil Nadu, you must also try idli, dosa, vadai, pongal, appam, upma, puttu, Ambur Dum Biriyani, Dindigul Biriyani and filter coffee .

This is my second stay at this hotel and the Grand has truly made a fan out of me. Having checked into 4 different hotels before arriving at the Grand, I found that this hotel was better than most hotels in Tamil Nadu and is even better than newer 5 star hotels that have recently been launched in Chennai. The familiar sound of 'Vanakkam' as a greeting whether over the phone or in person gave me great comfort. The hotel staff were excellent and for once I found a hotel staff member who refused a tip, despite my insistence, in India. The food at breakfast was excellent and the spa which I finally had time to use was truly professional. Thank you Grand, I will be back for sure

Would have been nicer to see a mini library and a games area.eg. Pool table. Food is very expensive.and added taxes are unreasonable. Hotel tax Tamil Nadu tax Central government tax Above taxes cost more than the value of the chosen food. Bill was included with the chocolates that we have not eaten from the minibar.

Great location, spacious club room , staff very helpful (esp Bala in reception and bala in house keeping). water , good coffee in room( not always replenished but appeared when asked) and excellent turn down service . Great location, spacious club room , staff very helpful (esp Bala in reception and bala in house keeping). water , good coffee in room( not always replenished but appeared when asked) and excellent turn down service . The hotel is a little tired and not 5 star but still good value for money. We had 2 rooms, one for my husband and I and the other for my daughter . One room was larger with good bathroom, other room was smaller with a bathroom that needed to be updated. .Debendra in the front desk should have been more thoughtful and given the bigger room to the couple......... check the room before you accept it. Room service - very quick. Delicious Buffet breakfast with enormous spread of local and european items. Made to order, Omelette ,dosa , paratha station, the list goes on. We ate at the earthen oven restaurant - NW frontier food - was fantastic - one of the best meals I have had this trip. Bottom line - little renovation and this could be one of the best.

BKR Grand Hotel

would suggest to stay in this hotel since it is clean and hve easy access to the main city. for those who travelling to chennai and required a good treatment and a clean place with cheap price bkr is the best place.

We stayed for only one night on our way out of Tamil Nadu on our way to Malaysia. We chose the hot because of a free airport shuttle deal through Agoda. My husband is a vegan and the downstairs restaurant provided an appropriate lunch after discussion with the chef. Well done! Chennai had multiple power cuts during our stays and the hotel generator clicked in immediately. Wifi worked OK, not always the case in Tamil Nadu. On arrival we were told that we had been Upgraded to a club room, which gave us access to s special lounge for our breakfast. This was great, as we had an early flight. Nice breakfast with plenty of choice. We had previously spent four nights at The Residency, the smaller sister hotel of Residency Towers and preferred it to the more expensive Residency Towers. The latter is larger, has a pool and other facilities the former does not have, but seems to cater for groups rather than the independent traveller. Sleep proved impossible because of loud and continual noise of machinery, possibly the central air conditioning system. Turning off our rooms air con did not help. Earl plugs did not help either and our stay was spoiled by this.

This was my 2nd visit to Hotel Savera during a 14 day holiday to the state of Tamil Nadu in July / August 2010. We stopped for a total of 8 nights at the hotel so for a full detailed report on the hotel and surrounding area please read my "long winded" review from late July 2010. As a summary I was very pleased with my choice of the Hotel Savera and will return there again on my next arrival in Chennai. Pleasant large hotel, good friendly well trained staff, with an excellent choice of restaurants and bars on site. We did not need to go out at night with 3 quality reastaurants and 2 drinks bars which served meals. If you are into fitness you have a quality modern gym / fitness centre with a good sized swimming pool all free to use ( just short of enough sun bed and umbrella's for the western tourist who enjoy a day around the pool !!) The hotel is primarily for Indian business men and locals with several conference rooms and banquet halls BUT it is also geared to providing a comfortable ambience for the occasional group of western tourist guests. During our 8 days we met fellow tourists from France, The Netherlands and the United States. Read the full review from a few day earlier.

I have travelled and stayed in many hotels in India and around the world , and I must say that this hotel is one of the best in my books - in terms of service , cleanliness , ambience and aesthetics and infrastructure and warmth and hospitality . We were given a sea view room facing the Bay of Bengal - it was peaceful and serene . One will really feel like a royalty when entering the hotel . Everyone from the bellman to the porters , ushers , Housekeeping and staff at the breakfast buffet restaurant area fantastic in the warmth and service they extend to you . The service delivery is highly consistent . I had asked for extra complimentary cookies for my young children and also shower gels and all were given to me very promptly ( unlike other good hotels ). Special mention- probably one of the few hotels that provide u with such ample complimentary mineral water for your use .

Chennai has been changing slowly and steadily over the time. I am not against anyone from other states being employed; the staff are fabulous and all are doing their jobs in a wonderful manner. However, I would just wish that they learn Tamil as part of getting skilled to work in Chennai. It is not that they have to be proficient in Tamil. But at least to a certain level where they are able to maintain the originality of our Singara Chennai :) I wish the businesses in Chennai keep this point in their Charter and work on it.

Hyatt Regency Chennai said, on my arrival, that they could not give me my room because there were issues with their 'foreigner registration' process. The govt immigration dept has apparently suspended their permission to accept foreigner's bookings. They emailed me about this just the day before my arrival - an email I did not see because I was out of internet contact at that time (being in rural Tamil Nadu). The email wasn't even from 'Hyatt Regency' but from someone on the staff called 'Dave' - not professional. They relocated me to Park Hyatt which is a totally different part of the city. I explained that we had chosen Hyatt Regency (for a family event) because it was close to the event venue. So the issue was very inconvenient and resulted in much time taken up with revising our plans and extra travel around the city. The only compensation they offered was 'points' towards one free night for one person at some time in the future. I will not be availing myself of this.

They are very professional and helpful. Clean and the food was lovely. Mainly Indian cuisine for breakfast buffet but I loved it. They went out of their way on so many occasions just to make sure I was looked after well and I could easily say that I received 5 star treatment from a 4 star rated property. About 10 mts to express avenue mall etc. It’s cheaper and easier to use Uber when you’re there. Overall my experience at the property and in Chennai was very pleasant and I would definitely recommend Ramada to any decent traveler. Also I would definitely patronize this place whenever I return to Chennai

We were a family group of 6 person and we stayed 8 nights here. We booked two Executive Rooms with additional beds in each rooms to accomodate for 3 person each room. Our main purpose of the trip is wedding shopping. Hence while choosing for hotels we have given more consideration on the location, quality and price of the hotel. Following is our comments based on our stay in Benzz Park Hotel: 1. Location: The hotel is located away from the busy area of Usman Road and Pondy Bazaar. However, it is less than 5 min walk to Manyavar and Pothy's Boutique. 10 min walk to Pondy Bazaar. 15 min walk to Usman Road (where most of the Saree Shopping Complex are situated eg. Chennai Silk, etc.) FYI, there is a free shuttle service between Pothy's Boutique and Pothy's Traditional (at Usman Road). So one can save some money for travelling to Usman Road. Otherwise local "auto" rickshaw and "Ola" taxis is also available near the hotel which cost between Rs 80 to Rs 120 from the hotel to Usman Road. 2. Rooms: Rooms are spacious and clean. Bed is confortable but the pillows need some upgrade. Variety of TV channels including sport channels. The hot shower is available with high pressure water. 3. Food: A typical variety of wonderful south indian food was served as breakfast buffet including some western food such as bread, sausages, egg, corn flakes, etc. It shall be noted that the dishes are typically the same for each day, so one might get bored after the third day. However, the food is cleanly prepared and served. Besides that, room service is available round the clock at a reasonable price. 4. Facilities: You have to request for Wifi password at the reception. Each device will require dedicated user/password and its validity is 48hours. Sharing of user/password between devices is not allowed but one may request as many user/password as he require. The speed of the Wifi is reasonably fast, however at time one might face some difficulties in logging in. The hotel also comes with

I had a wonderful experience staying in the hotel, it has two restaurant offering delicious food, Chin-Chin is one the the best Chinese restaurant in the city. The whole hotel is covered Wi-Fi with good signal, saves me a lot of work for sending emails, searching the internet. In general, The Residency is one the best hotel in Chennai that i strongly recommend it to anyone who will visit Chennai in the future.

This hotel was one of the best in Chennai but I would now say it is the BEST. The 601 restaurant must serve the best food in India and I cant fault the staff so a big pat on the backs for the staff who have obviously been well trained by the management. A business is only as good as its staff and this hotel deserves 10 out of 10

Room was good, ambiance was good. more than value for money five star for them *****

Stayed there last weekend. It was amazing. we were in the heritage wing of the hotel and as the name indicates its old building. Stayed there last weekend. It was amazing. we were in the heritage wing of the hotel and as the name indicates its old building. I was a bit skeptic about the room setup (being an old hotel) but to my surprise, they have maintained things well. Even if the bathroom fittings are of 90s they have maintained it well even with chennai's hard water condition. It was centralized AC (with individual temp control rooms) and have the smart card lock (yes for a heritage hotel!!). The breakfast was complimentary for me and it was awesome!! So many varieties (both continental and Indian) to choose upon and it really made my day. Everything tasted also very nice (and this is coming from a foodie) I must comment about the pool. All these years I have been into many hotels and resorts but everywhere my eyes will be burning after swimming. No such issues here. The water here was clean and didnt hurt my eyes.. Yes!! the chlorine content was so low that i could even swim underwater with my eyes open ;) I am reducing one star because of the lunch buffet. Its 800 per person. I feel its overpriced.. Honestly. Can be around 350-400 max. Not much varieties. But tastewise its good in general. Overall it was an amazing experience. I was with my kid, wife and mother and everybody had a comfortable stay. The staff also very friendly in general and had a helping attitude always

i booked the lemon tree hotel purely on reviews on trip advisor. having, in the past some very poor experiences with hotels in india i decided to not leave it to chance. i had booked and paid in january for 15 march so when we arrived at reception to be told that they didn't have a room suitable, i wasn't too pleased. after pointing out our annoyance and insisting that...

i booked the lemon tree hotel purely on reviews on trip advisor. having, in the past some very poor experiences with hotels in india i decided to not leave it to chance. i had booked and paid in january for 15 march so when we arrived at reception to be told that they didn't have a room suitable, i wasn't too pleased. after pointing out our annoyance and insisting that it wasn't our problem they did then offer us a room to shower and change whilst they sorted it. and much to our surprise, they did! our room was on the second floor road side but double glazed so we were not disturbed by road noise. i have to say once over the first hiccup, we were very impressed. the rooms have simple lines and are very clean with nice bathroom facilities and 30 mins free wifi per day. breakfast was a large selection of eggs, bacon, cereal, fruit and local dishes. again this was very clean and well presented. the staff were friendly and helpful. it seems this is a chain of hotels opening up and just what travellers and india needs to boost tourism. well done 10/10

We stayed at the Lotus Hotel Sameera for 4 nights and we had only positive experiences at hotel. The staff was more than accommodating and helped us get around town by ordering us taxis and tuk-tuks. The staff was friendly, and knowledgeable about the area and things to do in Chennai. The hotel is located in downtown Chennai on a major street which is quite noisy. However, it was relatively quiet in our room and we were not bothered much by the street noise, which was the worst, at it's peak (around 7-10pm), and after that it was quiet until morning. The hotel was also easy to get to being that it was on a major road and taxi and tuk-tuk drivers knew of the hotel, so that was never a problem. There are a lot of sites near the hotel and the hotel was also fairly close to the beach. It is quite difficult to walk anywhere from the hotel (sightseeing-wise) so we needed to get a taxi or tuk-tuk. The hotel itself was new and stylish, but not overly gaudy. The bed we had was enormous and comfortable, the shower was one of the best showers I've ever had in a hotel. I didn't want to get out. The room was generally clean and we were given free bottled water and tea and coffee. The free breakfast was delicious and buffet style. Lots of delicious Indian breakfast foods such as wada and idli. Overall, we had a great experience and would happily stay there again in the future.

This is the first time we are staying in a hotel in Chennai and even after providing the Photo ID's they took a picture. I have never seen hotel taking pictures of the guest anywhere in the world we have stayed. I'm giving one star for this policy and never ever recommend it for any traveler until this policy is changed. And I thought, it was standard practice in Chennai. Then we went to another hotel in Chennai and all we had to give was our photo ID. No photos were taken! We were given a room first, it had the damp/wet smell. Immediately after calling the reception, they switched to a new room. That was a good move on their part. Complimentary breakfast was good. We tried Dine-In room service and it was good as well.

My stay here was very pleasant and enjoyable. After a long and hectic day in Chennai, it was great to return to a comfortable, luxurious and clean hotel. The deco was glitzy and shiny but all was good. I was rather pleased with the tribute paid to the movie celebrities. However, perhaps more Tamil movie stars can also be featured. There was also a night club at the basement. However, they mostly played Hindi and English songs. I think that more Tamil club music would be really great - and of course to extend the closing hours. (Closing hours at 10.30 - 11pm). Also, offering a spa or massage services would also be a great idea for the hotel. The only thing that was disturbing was the fact that 2 or more fighting fishes were placed in the same bowl (as part of the deco). However, the staff took action almost immediately to separate the fish when some of the guests alerted that some fish were already dead. I hope that the fishes will be placed in an appropriate vessel with appropriate care.

We also had some issues with taxi drivers who wanted to cheat us (we booked the taxi ourself not by the hotel) and the hotel staffs was very helpful to sorted out the issues on behalf. Overall amazing hotel service and food. Saw other complaints about the hotel, perhaps it should be taken into consideration that the comments was made sometime back and they would have changed since then. Had no issues with the hotel, only bad point is some rooms could be up kept better but for the price your paying its overall very worth it.

While I do not know whether I should call it as a "five star" hotel (may be the government has lowered standards/ ambiance required for 5 star!), I would consider it as a great place for business stay. The best part of this hotel is its staff. Room service staff were very quick in response and very courteous. Front desk and travel desk were also very helpful. The ambiance of the hotel is okay, and I wouldn't say its the best. The colour scheme inside resembles more of a casino, than a luxury hotel. I would also say that the entrance door of the hotel with advertisements looked very odd! May be the management should consider replacing it with a see through door.

Exterior view

A bit odd that for such a great hotel, the windows were filthy. There wasn't much of a view, but had there been one, I would have been out of luck. They looked like they had never been touched. However, that is my only objection and it is a small one. Otherwise this is one of the best hotels I've ever stayed in.

Regenta Central Deccan Chennai

I really loved the entry with perfect booking tracking at the reception. No errors of any such funny things, which blended well with an concourse to the clean and neat traditional designed decor room. I was fascinated by overwhelming vegetarian buffet which i didn't expect. But Truly the Veg Buffet was really nice and not overpriced with some discount.

Was very disappointed in the first room (Classic) I was assigned -- cramped, with a bad, musty odor. Was moved the next day to a better room (Premium) at no extra cost. Upon my return from a brief break, was assigned a Premium Executive Suite, again, at no extra charge. This was by far the best of the 3 rooms and was comparable to the room that I occupied at Clarion last year by cost less. The breakfast buffet is adequate though the choices are not opulent as at Clarion. The staff is friendly and efficient. Whereas the listed amenities include a Business Center, the hotel does not have a center; instead the front desk offers to print a few pages for you. Its prime location coupled with the positives mentioned make it a good choice for a budget-conscious traveler.

Book Hotels In Tamil Nadu

It is most visited tourist state domestically as well as internationally. It is famous for its old age traditions and culture that enhance the beauty of iconic temples, cool coconut palms lining the lagoons of coastal beaches, waterfalls, hills and many more. Centuries old monuments, temples and rock carvings are preserved with great care and can be seen by the tourists anytime. With Chennai as its capital, Madurai as its oldest artistic city and Coimbatore as the textile hub, Tamil Nadu is a tremendous and growing city. The best time to enjoy both temples and other attractions is between November till March as the humid temperature becomes unbearable in summer season. Tamil Nadu is famous for multitude of attractions like beaches of Chennai and Kanyakumari, Meenakshi Temple of Madurai, Brihadisvara Temple in Thanjavur built around 1010 AD, lakes and hills of Ooty and Coimbatore, Kanchipuram silk sareers, rock-cut caves of Mahabalipuram, Kodaikonal’s clear waterfalls, emerging city of Trichy and many more. Wildlife admirers have many bird sanctuaries. Chennai itself has scuba diving, parasailing, paragliding, theme parks and numerous other activities. People here prefer both vegetarian and non-vegetarian. Rice, sambhar, rasam, legumes, lentils, fish curry, chicken and other delicacies surprise the taste buds. Kesari and payasam are best served as sweet dishes. Don’t miss out the famous ‘Filter coffee’. It is morning caffeine that boosts up the whole state. If caught the heat already? Have a cool coconut drink. Rooting from ancient history to adaptation of modern culture, Tamil Nadu is a state of art and people being most hospitable. And the cuisine is mouthwatering. It has everything a traveller seeks and no reason can be enough to decline the offer to visit such a magnificent state.
