Los Angeles, US grunge act, L7, found popularity throughout the 1990s, before returning after an extended hiatus in 2014, with their music inspiring a generation of bands to champion women’s rights through the ‘riot grill’ movement.
The band initially formed in 1985, by friends Suzi Gardner (guitars, vocals) and Donita Sparks (guitars, vocals), before later being joined by Dee Plakas (drums) and Jennifer Finch (bass), after a number years of an ever-changing lineup. In 1988, they signed with Epitaph Records, releasing their self-titled debut that same year, followed by “Smell the Magic” in 1991, released on Sub Pop.
Their punk/metal hybrid failed to garner much success but following Nirvana’s breakout hit with “Nevermind,” alternative music found a surge of popularity. With 1992’s “Bricks are Heavy” (on Slash Records), their trashy punk sound broke into the charts, peaking at the top spot on Billboard’s Heatseekers Album charts. L7 brought a female voice into the grunge movement, also becoming involved in activism, often outspoken and outrageous in their public displays. They set up the non-profit ‘Rock for Choice’ organisation, providing a platform to raise support for women’s rights through annual concerts.
1994’s “Hungry For Stink” failed to live up to the success of its predecessor, yet L7 remained a respected act in alternative music. Releases and tours continued yet L7 were unable to maintain momentum and they eventually decided to depart on an indefinite hiatus in 2001. Nonetheless, L7 had helped provide a female voice in alternative music, inspiring the likes of Sleater-Kinney and the Donnas to also make raucous punk rock that challenged patriarchy and the status quo of alternative music. Along with the likes of Bikini Kill, they epitomised the riot grill movement that developed during the 1990s, which was continued in the following decade through bands such as Pussy Riot and Savages. As of 2014, they announced their return to music, revamping their act to the delight of old and new fans alike.
Live reviews
From being a longtime L7 fan ever since I was in high school back in '87, I always enjoyed the music that they put out. Although I wasn't familiar with the genre term at the time, I can safely say that they were my introduction into Grunge music.
Back in '92 after graduating from college, I found out on a foreign radio station in Italy that L7 was going to perform there sometime that year. At the time, I was still conjuring up a graduation present from my parents as I was currently stuck between a gaming console or a new TV. But having heard that news made me forget those two things altogether! I asked my dad if I could go to Italy alone to go see them perform. After several weeks of convincing, he finally agreed to let me go, so I packed my things and headed for Italy later that month, a day before they were set to perform.
The night of the performance I went to the ticket booth and purchased a ticket and entered the venue. I was in the center of the stage when they all came out and immediately started to play "Shove", one of my favorite songs. They went on to play other songs like "Just Like Me" and the time just seemed to fly by. At nights end, I was absolutely drained from the excitement and went back to the hotel. After arriving back home, I told my parents about the trip and they were happy that I had such a blast.

show redondo, banda devidamente ensaiada e profissa. Circo lotado e roda comendo solta. Engracado ver os homens adoradores do sagrado feminino que em casa sao misoginos naturais. Salve a hipocrisia masculina.

L7 Announces 'In Your Space' Fall 2023 U.S. Tour
Legendary American grunge pioneers L7 have announced a special run of U.S. fall tour dates which includes stops at Louder Than Life and Aftershock festivals. Following their blistering performance at Punk Rock Bowling in Las Vegas and their highly successful 2022 "Bricks Are Heavy" 30th-anniversary tour, the band is excited to tear it up at some intimate stages for a rib-rattling in-your-face night of rock and roll.
"The energy and vibe that smaller venues allow is something that we always want to stay connected to," Donita Sparks shares, "and with a new single in the works, we can't wait to see our crowd up close and in the flesh."
L7 North American tour dates:
Sep. 14 - Asbury Park, NJ @ The Wonder Bar Sep. 16 - Boston, MA @ Brighton Music Hall Sep. 17 - New York, NY @ Gramercy Hall Sep. 18 - Washington, DC @ Black Cat Sep. 21 - Louisville, KY @ Louder Than Life Oct. 02 - Los Angeles, CA @ Venice West Oct. 03 - San Diego, CA @ House Of Blues Oct. 05 - Sacramento, CA @ Aftershock Oct. 07 - Pioneertown, CA @ Pappy & Harriet's
Formed in 1985, L7 went on indefinite hiatus in 2001. A 2015 reunion tour was followed by the documentary "L7: Pretend We're Dead" in 2016.
L7 's first album in 20 years, "Scatter The Rats" , was released in May 2019 via Joan Jett 's Blackheart Records . At the time, Sparks told the Asbury Park Press that new music was never part of the reunion strategy. "New music was not in the plan at all," she said. "We just got together to do reunion shows, and that just really kind of took off and we wanted to keep playing shows, we really enjoyed connecting with our fans again.
"Playing rock is fun and we hadn't done it in a long time and we realized, 'Wow, this is really fun again,' so we thought, 'If we want to keep doing this, we should put out new music.' And we felt we still had stuff to say and still wanted to express ourselves with new stuff."

L7 , the fierce and unapologetic female rock band , emerged from the vibrant Los Angeles music scene in the late 1980s. Formed in 1985, the group consisted of founding members Donita Sparks (guitar, vocals) and Suzi Gardner (guitar, vocals), along with Jennifer Finch (bass, vocals) and Dee Plakas (drums).
Known for their raw energy, unbridled attitude, and catchy punk-infused grunge sound, L7 quickly gained a dedicated following. Their music combined heavy riffs, infectious melodies, and provocative lyrics that tackled social and political issues. The band’s empowering and often humorous songs resonated with fans who sought an unapologetic voice in the male-dominated rock scene.
L7 released their debut album, “ L7 ,” in 1988, which showcased their aggressive and confrontational style. However, it was their breakthrough album, “ Bricks Are Heavy ” (1992), that propelled them into the mainstream. Produced by Butch Vig , the album featured the hit single “ Pretend We’re Dead, ” which became an anthem for a generation and helped establish L7 as one of the leading voices in alternative rock.
Throughout the 1990s, L7 continued to release acclaimed albums, including “ Hungry for Stink ” (1994) and “ The Beauty Process: Triple Platinum ” (1997). They toured extensively, sharing stages with iconic bands like NIRVANA, SOUNDGARDEN and RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS , solidifying their reputation as a fierce live act.
In addition to their musical prowess, L7 were known for their activism and outspokenness. They openly advocated for feminist causes, addressing issues such as sexism and body image in their lyrics and interviews. Their fearless approach challenged societal norms and inspired many women in the rock and alternative music scenes.
After a hiatus in the early 2000s, L7 reunited in 2014, delighting fans with their infectious energy and explosive live performances. They released their first studio album in over 20 years, “ Scatter the Rats, ” in 2019, showcasing that their passion and fire remained as strong as ever.
L7 ‘s influence on the alternative rock and riot grrrl movements cannot be overstated. Their music and fierce persona shattered stereotypes and inspired a generation of women in rock. With their unapologetic attitude, relentless energy, and commitment to authenticity, L7 carved their place in rock history as one of the most influential and empowering all-female rock bands of all time.

There’s nothing quite like the rush of being on stage, feeding off the crowd’s energy, and just letting loose with our music. We’ve missed that connection with our fans in this part of the country more than words can express, and we’re counting down the days until we can get back out there and rock with all of you.
This tour is even more special because we’ll revisit some cities we haven’t played in a bit. From Atlanta to Albany, it will feel like a homecoming of sorts, and we can’t wait to see familiar faces and make some new memories with the L7 family.
But that’s not all – we’re also hitting up cities that we’ve never played before, and I’m stoked to play Lititz for the first time! We’re ready to bring our A-game once again to these towns and show ’em what L7 is all about. So get ready to rock, my friends, because L7 is back and ready to unleash our raw energy onstage. It’s going to be wild, it’s going to be loud, and it’s going to be one hell of a good time. See you all out there!
Stay tuned for more updates and ticket information – you won’t want to miss this!

Music | Foo Fighters add Bay Area date to their big North American tour
Foo fighters plays concord.
Turns out that the Foo Fighters didn’t forget about the Bay Area after all.
And the rock act is proving it by adding a local date on the North American leg of the Everything or Nothing at All Tour.
Dave Grohl and company performs at Toyota Pavilion in Concord on Aug. 13.
Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. March 21, livenation.com . A presale for Citi card holders runs 10 a.m. March 19 to 10 p.m. March 20, citientertainment.com . For more presale info, visit foofighters.com .
The Toyota Pavilion is one of the more intimate venues on Everything or Nothing at All Tour, which finds the group performing at Boston’s Fenway Park, Cincinnati’s Great American Ballpark, Minneapolis’ Target Field, Seattle’s T-Mobile Park and a number of other stadiums.
This is, in all likelihood, that biggest rock show to play Concord in many years.
The tour supports the band’s 11th album, “But Here We Are.”

Jeff Lynne's ELO announce final tour: How to get tickets to Over and Out
Jeff Lynne’s ELO dazzled audiences with a show of sonic perfection when the band reappeared in the U.S. in 2018-2019.
Now, the melodic wizard and his ace musical comrades will hit the road a final time for The Over and Out Tour. A 27-date outing will commence Aug. 24 in Palm Desert, California and wrap Oct. 25 in Los Angeles. In between, Lynne and ELO will visit cities including Chicago, Atlanta, Seattle, Cleveland, Phoenix, Philadelphia, Houston and Washington, D.C.
An ELO presale begins at 10 a.m. local time March 20, with the general sale starting at 10 a.m. local time March 22. VIP experiences will also go on sale at 10 a.m. local time March 20. Tickets will be available via livenation.com and details about the VIP packages at jefflynneselo.com.
During the band’s last U.S. run , Lynne offered a 20-song setlist that included Electric Light Orchestra gems “Evil Woman,” “Don’t Bring Me Down,” “Telephone Line” and “Do Ya,” all reproduced with stunning clarity. Even the underappreciated and much-maligned “Xanadu” from the 1980 Olivia Newton-John movie received its due.
In addition to his prowess as a producer, Lynne was also a co-founder and member of The Traveling Wilburys with George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison and Tom Petty. The collective also received a nod in the live production with a comforting rendition of “Handle with Care.”
Lynne was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2023 and ELO ushered into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017.
