The Lion King Roars into Crown Theatre Perth

Theatre fans in western australia are in for a treat with the announcement that disney’s landmark musical event, the lion king, is set to roar into crown theatre perth in november..

The Lion King has been entertaining audiences across the globe since its Broadway stage debut in 1997, but the upcoming tour will mark the first time the production has been performed in Perth.

Ticketmaster is giving theatre lovers in Perth the opportunity to jump to the front of the queue to ensure they are first in line for tickets to The Lion King. Lovers of the stage musical are encouraged to add The Lion King to their list of favourites in their My Ticketmaster accounts to ensure they receive all ticketing updates regarding the upcoming season of The Lion King.

Disney Theatrical Productions Executive Producer James Thane said Western Australia was a great choice for The Lion King.

“We are thrilled to present Julie Taymor’s ground-breaking production in Perth for the very first time,” Thane said.

“West Australian audiences packed out our last show Mary Poppins, and we expect they will be equally keen to see this Broadway smash hit.”

Seen by more than 75 million people worldwide, The Lion King really is a show that has to be seen to be believed. The story of The Lion King is brought to life through incredible scenery, costumes, sets and life-size animal puppets including giraffes, cheetahs, elephants and a hippopotamus roaming the stage.

Adding to the visual spectacle is the amazing music of The Lion King. The Broadway score features music from Elton John and Tim Rice – including the Oscar-winning Can You Feel the Love Tonight? – as well as new original songs from John and Rice and additional musical material. Much of the additional music is heavily influenced by the sounds of Africa, which gives the music of The Lion King a spectacular and haunting mix of western pop and distinctive African rhythms and sounds.

The Australian production of The Lion King features a world-class cast from around the globe including South Africa’s Buyi Zama as Rafiki, Nick Afoa from New Zealand as Simba, Australians Rob Collins and Josh Quong Tart as Mufasa and Scar and Josslynn Hlenti from South Africa as Nala.

The ensemble cast also includes performers from Brazil, China, Jamaica, the Philippines, Thailand, USA, Puerto Rico, Malaysia and Zimbabwe.

The Lion King is directed by Julie Taymor, who is also the production’s costume designer and mask co-designer. Taymor was the first woman to win a Tony Award for Direction of a Musical and continues to oversee the delivery of The Lion King all over the world.

The Australian production of The Lion King is currently performing in Melbourne at the Regent Theatre following smash hit seasons in Sydney and Brisbane. The Australian production of The Lion King is just one of nine currently performing around the world, including on Broadway and London’s West End.

The enduring musical has been performed in 20 countries on every continent except Antarctica and has been translated into seven different languages. The Lion King recently set a world record with the production’s worldwide gross earnings now exceeding any film or Broadway show in box office history.

Looking for something fun to do with your kids the next time you take a trip to Sydney? Then you may want to book tickets for one of the most anticipated musical events coming up in the city - the return of The Lion King.

Return of the King

It's been eight years since this highly acclaimed musical has graced Sydney's theatre scene, so it's no surprise musical fanatics in Australia are getting quite excited to see its latest iteration.

The opening performance comes to the Capitol Theatre on December 6, and the show will be running for a solid eight months, giving you plenty of time to book a trip to Sydney to get in on the action.

About the show

What makes The Lion King so special? First off, it will be a huge hit among kids who are fans of the Disney performance. The show features the same beloved soundtrack, written by Elton John, and it tells the familiar story of Simba, Mufasa, Nala and the rest.

More than 70 million people worldwide have seen the show, which should be a testament to how popular it is. Julie Taymor, one of the most celebrated artists on Broadway, designed the costumes and directed the performance, winning a Tony for Best Direction in 1998, when the show was new to the musical theatre scene.

The leading role in the Sydney performance is taken on by Nick Afoa, a talented actor and singer from South Auckland, New Zealand. He's joined by Sydney native, Josh Quong Tart, who's playing the role of the villainous Scar; Josslynn Hlenti, an actress from South Africa who's playing Nala and Rob Collins of Darwin in the role of Mufasa.

Award winning film composer Hans Zimmer will bring his smash-hit tour Hans Zimmer Live to North America this Fall with arena dates across the United States and Canada, including a birthday show at the iconic Madison Square Garden. Following a sold-out European run, the tour marks the North American return of the “Hollywood Rebel” (according to the BBC) who rocked Coachella in 2017 with his outstanding live band and orchestra. Audiences will be swept away from the sound of the first note and journey through an array of well-loved scores throughout Zimmer’s career. In a groundbreaking audio and visual show, the multiple Academy Award® and Grammy winning Zimmer, his band and the orchestra will perform a selection of the composer’s scores from some of cinema’s biggest films. THE LION KING North American Tour Welcomes New Cast Members This Month

The new cast members will begin performances in Salt Lake City at The Eccles Theatre on September 29.

The North American tour of Disney's The Lion King is pleased to welcome Peter Hargrave, Nick LaMedica and Khalifa White as Scar, Zazu and Nala, respectively. The new cast members will begin performances in Salt Lake City at The Eccles Theatre, where the award-winning musical will play a four-week return engagement from Thursday, September 29 through Sunday, October 23, 2022. LaMedica and White begin performances on Thursday, September 29, while Hargrave debuts on Thursday, October 13.

Jürgen Hooper (Zazu) and Kayla Cyphers (Nala) will play their final performances on Sunday, September 25, 2022 in Tucson, where the tour begins a two-week return engagement today, Wednesday, September 14 at Centennial Hall. Spencer Plachy (Scar) plays his final performance in Salt Lake City on Sunday, October 9.

Since returning in October 2021 from its 18-month pandemic shutdown, The Lion King North American tour has proven as strong as ever, playing to capacity houses in 16 cities and entertaining over 800,000 guests during more than 300 performances in just the last 11 months. The tour is scheduled to play 13 cities during the 2022-23 season, with additional engagements to be announced.

TikTok inked a partnership with ticketing provider AXS to let users of the popular video app discover and buy tickets to live events.

The feature is going live initially in the U.S., U.K., Sweden and Australia, with additional markets to follow at an undetermined date. Now, any certified artist on TikTok can use the in-app ticketing feature to promote their AXS live dates, according to the company.

TikTok has let users in the U.S. purchase live event tickets via a partnership with Ticketmaster since 2022, and last December expanded the Ticketmaster pact to encompass more than 20 new markets, including Canada, Mexico, the U.K., Ireland and Australia.

“TikTok’s partnership with AXS allows us to connect millions of users with legendary artists, venues and festivals, and allows artists to promote their live dates and reach their audience in a whole new way,” said Michael Kümmerle, global music partnership development lead at TikTok. “We are very excited to start this journey with AXS and look forward to supporting the further growth of ticketing on TikTok in the future.”

AXS chief strategy officer Marc Ruxin commented, “TikTok has become one of the most important global platforms for music content attracting an incredible community of artists and fans. By combining the reach and influence of TikTok artists with AXS’s global ticketing platform, the partnership will provide seamless ticket-buying access to some of the world’s most iconic venues, festivals and tours. This is the perfect example of discovery-driven content and commerce for music fans!”
