Westminster to Hampton Court
The trip takes over 3 hours but it is a lovely trip down the river. Once you reach about Richmond the views from the river are outstanding. There was a good commentary on the boat. You could choose to sit inside or out. Good toilets on boat. There was food and a bar. It was a most enjoyable stress free day and well worth the money. Go on the boat but then get the fast train back to Waterloo. Over 6 hours on the boat may be too much.
Relaxing and interesting ride up to Hampton Court on the upper open deck of the Cockney Sparrow. Truly interesting and funny "guide" who pointed out sights and thoroughly entertained the passengers. Best to do on a glorious sunny day, but a wonderful day out starting at the West Embankment and Big Ben. Treat yourself to lunch or dinner at Mezzet Restaurant for a perfect day!
All of my life I have never done this, but 'wow' what a day, stopped at the Tower of London got off at Westminster, walked to Beckenham Palace / Trafalgar square, and the London eye, even sat and had our sandwiches outside Beckenham palace
While all the other tourist boats were heading east to Woolrich, I took a boat to Hampton Court. It was three hours, two and a half hours back to Westminster. I had been really burned out from walking and museums, and this was just a perfect trip. The river gets narrower, and the boathouses and homes and locks and wildlife make you feel like you have left the city behind. It's not luxurious, but the captain and first mate are familiar with everything going on along the river. I would do it again. Your best bet, by the way, is a one-way ticket. The schedule is based on the tide, and when I went, we were in Hampton Court an hour before the boat went back down the river again. Tickets to tour Hampton Court are about 25 pounds for adults, so you want to make it worthwhile. There are trains back to the city. I have to admit, though, just being on the river was more enjoyable.
We used this boat to get to the Shard for afternoon tea. Despite being a Londoner for 14 years I'd never used a river boat but my Mum was visiting and wanted to try . We asked the attendant to guide us into a boat that would stop at London Bridge City Pier so we could exit and the Shard and off we went . Once aboard the staff member giving the guided talk was great . He was informative and funny and we really would have stayed all the way to Greenwich if we had time .. However we were then horrified to discover the boat did not stop at London Bridge as we had been advised and luckily it stopped at Tower Bridge which then involved us rushing like crazy to stop and taxi and get to the Shard ontime. The staff aboard the docking areas are really quite unhelpful and totally uninformed on which boat is doing where. Beware this and make sure you double check before boarding!!
We went on this boat trip from Hampton Court to Westminster and it was a very good way to spend three hours on a somewhat bleak day. The crew were friendly and interesting and the view was spectacular, all the way.

A Boat Trip and Picnic at Hampton Court
Marie Sleigh, aged 41 tell us about her special day out at Hampton Court with a fantastic boat trip to get there.
What was your reason for going to the river?
My mum, who lives in Burton On Trent, was visiting and we decided to have a day out. My mum chose to go for a picnic at Hampton Court but to make this even more of a special outing; I decided to take her by boat on a river cruise to our destination.
Please tell us what you did on your trip?
We boarded a Westminster Passenger Service Association boat at Westminster and started our journey up to Hampton Court Palace. The boat trip took us through central and then the outskirts of London, which was all very interesting as we were able to see a number of different attractions. The most interesting and scenic part of the trip was between Kew and Hampton Court Palace. We travelled through two locks at Teddington and Molesey, from here the river gets increasingly windy and twisty. We saw a large amount of wildlife on the Thames by the rivers picturesque banks as we travelled into the more rural section of the river.
Where and what time of year did you take your trip?
From Westminster to Hampton Court Palace in the summertime.
What did you like best about your trip?
The stunning views and the friendly staff. Plus a cold refreshing G&T on board the boat.
How much did your trip cost?
The Boat trip from Westminster to Hampton Court - £19.50 adult and £13.00 senior Hampton Court Palace - Gardens Ticket - £4.60 adults and £4.00 concession
If you used any business or visited any attractions during your trip, please let us know what you thought of them?
Hampton Court Garden's are idyllic. Would be even better if there was some kind of admission offer to Hampton Court on showing your river cruise ticket.

Westminster to Hampton Court
Took over 3 hrs but was a good way to see all the sights on the Thames . Ended up at Hampton court also a great place to visit. Boats go from Westminster Pier but check out as don't always go to Hampton Court.
Worth a trip if weather is nice, crew onboard provided a humourous commentary which added to the trip, we went from the London Eye to the Tower of London very enjoyable.
Advertised as 30 min trip but actually got 45 mins. Good way to see some of the main sites of London and good commentary too.
I had been to London a number of times, yet had never done a Thames cruise. My husband forced the issue, and it turned out to be my favourite memory of this trip. It was cold but very sunny the day we took the cruise from Westminster to Greenwich. We sat on top, while the kids went down below to stay warm. While not an official tour guide, the ferryman did a wonderful job of pointing out all the interesting aspects of what we were cruising by. I would highly recommend it.
Just sit and enjoy the commentary as you cruise along The Thames till you arrive at Greenwich . Look out for exclusive homes alongh the banks. Alight here (Greenwich) and walk about the market area where they set up stalls selling homemade pastries and also art pieces. Otherwise, get into a pub like Admiral Hardy.
One of the first things we did; located right next to our hotel and was the perfect way to start London. Very informative about every thing you see along the River Thames. From the top deck you get a great view of many sites.
