Getting Around

There’s a great network in Merseyside of buses, trains and of course, the Mersey Ferry.

Lime Street Station is Liverpool’s mainline station with trains arriving from Manchester, London, Scotland and the rest of the UK as well as destinations along the City Line such as from Huyton and St Helens.

Meanwhile, Liverpool and the surrounding area are well served by its own urban rail network– Merseyrail. It operates on the Wirral, Northern and City lines within Merseyside.

For details of cruises and sailings visit www.merseyferries.co.uk . As a cross-river alternative, consider taking the train to and from Hamilton Square on the Wirral Line of the Merseyrail network.

Merseyside’s bus network is extensive and can get you to and from Liverpool city centre quickly and easily. All buses are fully accessible.

There are two main bus stations at Liverpool One and Queen Square where the staff will be happy to advise. You can also find additional information at:

Parking is available at a number of Merseyrail stations, but is limited. Find out more information here .

You can find details of permanent car parking facilities (council-run and commercial) here.

Where to find Travel Information

To see Merseyside at its best you need to get out and about and Merseytravel can help you get to where you want to go, whether it’s by train, bus or ferry. Visit www.merseytravel.gov.uk where you’ll find all the information you need to guide you. The website has timetables, maps, apps, ideas for where to visit and lots more to help you make the most of your time.

Alternatively, drop into a Merseytravel Centre where friendly staff can give you help and advice on public transport across the region.

There are two Merseytravel Centres in Liverpool City Centre. You can pick up copies of various leaflets or choose from a range of tickets. Staff are very knowledgeable and can give you all the information you need on how to get around the region, whether you should go by bus or train and what to do when you get there.

Queen Square Travel Centre can be found in the bus station, near Lime Street Station, while Liverpool ONE Travel Centre is near the John Lewis store in Liverpool ONE shopping centre. There are also Travel Centres in Bootle Bus Station, St Helens Bus Station, Huyton Bus Station and Birkenhead Bus Station.

Why not download the Merseytravel travel app which will help you plan your journey online.
