Just wanted to share this bit of information since pulling the radio is usually the first step in many dash related and behind the dash repairs. It may be simple but is always easier to do after seeing how it's done. Hope this helps out as you will likely run across this in the future. Ford Radio Removal- NO SPECIAL TOOLS - YouTube

HELP!! Removing Aftermarket Radio 01 F250

  • Add to quote

I can't seem to find instructions/ photos/video on removing a double din aftermarket radio that is clipped into the dash panel. I find tons of instructions on removing the factory radio. Current radio has the Metra 95-5817 kit.

2000 excursion radio removal

You have to pull the entire dash face plate, sorry Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

2000 excursion radio removal

yup, the entire front face has to come off. not difficult, though.

2000 excursion radio removal

Depending on how it's installed, the above are correct. Follow the link to see someone remove the dash face.

im having the same exact problem, find an answer yet?

Did you even watch the video above your post?

2000 excursion radio removal

Did u get any help? I know how to remove dash panel. But there are two screws right above installed after market radio that must be removed to completely remove dash panel. Can't get to screws without breaking dash or nes radio clips. 🤔

An aftermarket radio should slide out of its cage by releasing pins on the side. I dont know what model you have but they generally look like this radio release tool - Google Search

In my case, I was able to remove my after market radio without breaking the metra tabs. I realized thereafter I had NOT reinstalled the two tiny screws that are directly above the radio which prevents one from removing the panel once a new radio is installed. I realized those two screws aren't needed and I drove thru all kinds of terrain with zero affect on my new radio. My recommendation is to go ahead and install your new radio. BUT do not screw in the two tiny screws that go into panel above the radio. They aren't necessary. This will allow you to safely remove the dash panel whenever you want without damaging the radio or dash. I have a 2001 Ford F250 7.3.
