Taiwan Visa-Free for Filipinos 2024: Everything You Need to Know

Filipino travelers rejoice! Taiwan remains visa-free for Filipinos until 31 July 2024 for a period of up to 14 days .

In line with Taiwan’s promotion of the New Southbound Policy (NSP), the visa-free entry trial for Southeast Asian countries including the Philippines , Thailand , and Brunei has been extended for another year, starting from 1 Aug 2023 until 31 July 2024 .

Here’s the official announcement of the Taiwan visa-free extension from Taiwan’s Bureau of Consular Affairs (BOCA).

What are the requirements for Filipinos to enter Taiwan visa-free?

Taipei 101

As with any other visa-free country for Filipinos , you should prepare the following:

  • Philippine Passport with at least six (6) months validity
  • Confirmed hotel booking
  • Confirmed round-trip flights
  • Contact details of host or sponsor
  • Sufficient travel funds to finance your trip
  • Travel insurance (not required but recommended)

Taiwan travel tips

  • Get your eTravel QR Code 72 hours before your departure or arrival to the Philippines.
  • Your Philippine passport should have at least 6 months validity prior to your intended travel date. You could be denied entry to Taiwan if your passport validity is less than 6 months. You should renew your Philippine passport first if that’s the case.
  • Bring your old passports (with stamps) if your current passport is still empty. It’ll leave you with less questioning at the immigration if you can provide proof that you are a frequent traveler.
  • We’ve heard horror stories about being offloaded, so we recommend that you keep calm and provide the needed information and documents when it’s your turn at the immigration counter. Relax, you’ll get through it!
  • Pick hotels that offer free cancellation of up to 48 hours in case you change your mind. You may check out some accommodation options on Klook or Agoda .
  • Buy your Taiwan EasyCard ahead so you can pay for public transport like trains, buses, taxis, and bikes while exploring Taiwan. Read our Taiwan EasyCard guide to know more.
  • Prepare your Taiwan SIM card , Taiwan eSIM , or pocket WiFi so you have connectivity as soon as you land. Read our Taiwan SIM card or pocket WiFi guide to help you decide.
  • Travel light and don’t overpack to avoid spending on luggage. Taiwan is just a two-hour flight from the Philippines, and you can easily buy affordable stuff when you arrive there.
  • Most importantly, follow the health and safety protocols set by the governments of the Philippines and Taiwan.

Taiwan is one of our favorite countries, and we couldn’t be happier about this news. Since 2017, we’ve taken advantage of Taiwan’s visa-free entry for Filipinos and explored the West Coast including Taipei, Tainan, Taichung, and Kaohsiung. We can’t wait to be back to experience the East Coast and beyond.

Taiwan visa for Filipino Citizens

The Philippines is one of the countries whose citizens can now apply for a Taiwan evisa. So if you are a Filipino who is planning a trip to Taiwan, you are no longer required to go to the embassy and apply for a visa. Instead, you get to complete that process online. It is simple, cheap, and let’s not forget about how fast it is.

Fill me in

Required documents

Before starting to fill in the application, you must be aware of the fact that you need a few documents. You will need some of them to apply, and some will be asked when you arrive in Taiwan. Either way, here is what you need:

• A valid passport – if you already have a passport, make sure that it is valid and will remain that way all the while you are in Taiwan.

• Proof of accommodation – you can use a hotel booking confirmation or a letter from a host in Taiwan.

• Return flight ticket

• Invitation letter – this is mostly applicable to business people.

• Bank statement – you may be required to show that you have the means for subsistence while you are in Taiwan. It is a practice found in many countries, not just Taiwan.

• A copy of your passport’s main page

• A digital passport sized photo

Now that you know what you need, you can move on to the application itself. Keep in mind that you may not need all those documents, but since the immigration officers ask for them on a case by case basis, it is better to be safe. Apply now

The Taiwan evisa application

The application is straightforward, and you will be required to provide the most basic information. There are two steps you need to follow. The first consists of you filling in your name, address, gender, date of birth, passport information, and so on. Also, it is at this point you must select the processing time. The second phase is when you revise your application and make the payment. You can use a credit or debit card for that. If you have a Paypal account, you can use that as well. iVisa accepts such payments. Apply now

Processing time and fees

When you apply, you need to choose the timeframe in which the evisa is ready. You have three options:

• Standard processing – it is the cheapest option, and your application will be processed within seven business days. You should know that the price for the visa remains the same, 54$, no matter the processing time. It is the service fee that differs. In this case, the service charge is 25$, which means that the total will be 79$ or 4255.18 PHP.

• Rush processing – this means that the Taiwan evisa will be ready within five business days, but you have to pay a total of 109$ or 5871.07 PHP.

• Super Rush processing – this option is ideal for people who need their visa as soon as possible. It is ready within three business days. However, just like you may expect, you need to pay a little bit more. The total cost is 129$ or 6948.33 PHP.

The visa will arrive in your email inbox, and you need to print it out to show it to the immigration officers when you get to Taiwan. The document is valid for 90 days, you are allowed a single entry, and once you get to Taiwan, you are allowed to stay there for 30 days. As you can see, this is one of the easiest ways to travel from the Philippines to Taiwan. There is no hassle whatsoever.

Filipinos can keep visiting Taiwan visa-free until July 2024

MANILA, Philippines – Are you looking to visit Taiwan? Good news: Filipinos can still fly there visa-free until July 2024.

Taiwan announced on Friday, June 30, a one-year extension of visa-free entry for nationals of the Philippines, Brunei, and Thailand from August 1, 2023 to July 31, 2024. Visa-free travel for Filipinos – which was announced last year – was initially set to expire on July 31, 2023.

“I cordially invite all Filipino friends to come and join us in exploring Taiwan’s beauty, especially with the 14-day visa-free program, which is officially announced today to be extended for another year,” Wallace Minn-Gan Chow, representative for the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines, said on Friday.

Visa-free entry for Philippine passport holders is allowed for up to 14 days, provided that they have the following before traveling to Taiwan:

  • proof of accommodations
  • contact details of host or sponsor
  • sufficient travel funds

Since the reopening of borders in Taiwan on October 13, 2022, the number of visitors from the Philippines to Taiwan has been growing. The number of Filipino tourists has already begun to exceed pre-pandemic levels, with the island welcoming 60,723 arrivals in the first quarter of 2023, 50% higher than the number of visitors in Q1 2019.

(READ: Taiwan ramps up tourism drive in Philippines as borders reopen )

“We have seen great potential in this tourism partnership. For Taiwan, the Philippines is the geographically closest country,” Chow said. “With this proximity and similarities, there are now around 116 weekly flights between our countries.”

In the continued recovery of tourism in 2023, Taiwan is hoping to bring in more than 320,000 visitors from the Philippines.

Meanwhile, Silvestre Bello, chairman of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office, said the extension of the visa-free entry policy will “further enhance trade and friendly relations between our countries.”

Bello added that “this will benefit the more than 170,000 Filipinos working and staying in Taiwan. It’s medium term advantage will be the expansion of the labor market for Filipino workers.” – Rappler.com

Taiwan Visa and e-Visa for Filipinos: How to Get It Successfully

Taiwan Visa and e-Visa for Filipinos: How to Get It Successfully

By continuing to read this article, you agree to double check with the authorities or other concerned entities for the latest updates.

————

Taiwan is one of those destinations that are easy to brush aside. It’s small, barely a dot in the world map. It’s not recognized by most countries as a sovereign nation. And it’s out of the way, detached from mainland Asia or Southeast Asia where backpacking is on overdrive.

It’s a shame, really, because when people ask me to choose destinations where I would rather live, Taiwan is definitely in the top 3. Taiwan is naturally breathtaking, delightfully friendly, and surprisingly cheap.

But it looks like times are changing. Taiwan is slowly gaining more popularity among Filipinos, thanks to more lenient and considerate entry policies. In 2016, the Philippines is among the top 10 countries that sent the most tourists. And the numbers are expected to rise after the implementation of visa-free and e-Visa options.

If you’re planning on visiting Taiwan soon, here’s how to get a tourist visa successfully.

Note: I am not affiliated with the government of Taiwan. We’re simply sharing our visa application experiences. We try to answer questions to the best of our knowledge, but it’s still best to contact TECO for any clarifications especially if yours is a special case.

But wait, determine if you really need a visa in the first place.

Recently, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in the Philippines announced that some Filipinos will be allowed visa-free entry to Taiwan provided that they meet the conditions.

  • Your passport must still be valid at least 6 months from your entry date.
  • You must have an onward or return ticket (plane or ferry).
  • You must never have been employed as a blue-collar worker in Taiwan.
  • You must have at least ONE of the following documents from Australia, Canada, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Taiwan* (ROC), United Kingdom (UK), United States (US) of any of the Schengen countries. As of June 2017, Taiwan is also included.

– Valid entry visa. E-visas are accepted. – Valid resident or permanent resident card – Resident card or visa that has expired less than 10 years before your intended entry date in Taiwan.

If you meet all four requirements, then what you need isn’t a visa but a Travel Authorization Certificate from Taiwan. Here’s how to get one: Taiwan Visa-Free Entry Procedure

*Taiwan was added to the list last June 2017. So if you have an existing Taiwan visa or resident card that expired not earlier than 10 years ago, you may use that too. However, Taiwan visas bearing a remark of “FL” (foreign labor) or “X” (others) and resident cards with the purpose of “Foreign Labor” are not eligible.

If you’re not qualified, read on!

Right now, you have two options. You can submit these documents online and get an e-visa or you can proceed to their physical office.

To help you figure out which is best for you, here’s a quick comparison site from TECO itself. This is as of March 2017. Make sure you double check with TECO for the updated data.

Option 1: Apply Online for an e-Visa.

The E-Visa is a single-entry visa and is valid for 30 days maximum and cannot be extended. You must also use it within 3 months after the issue date.

The great thing about this is that there is no need for proof of employment and additional financial documents (at least for now).

E-Visa application was launched in October 2016 and is intended for a year-long trial only. We’ll see if this will become a permanent option, but for now, it’s possible to apply online. Here’s how:

tourist visa in taiwan for filipino

  • Fill out the e-visa application form . You’ll find it on this page . Click on E-VISA APPLICATIONS. The form has 4 pages, and they’re quite easy to accomplish.
  • Read the Acknowledgment and tap “I Agree.” Make sure that all the info you entered is correct before proceeding. You won’t be able to change anything after this.
  • Take note of the Applicant Number that the next page will display. Then click “ Process E-Visa .”
  • Enter personal details on the next page , then hit “Confirm”.
  • Pay using a Visa, MasterCard or JCB credit card . Total cost is NT$1,632 (PHP2670, as of Feb 2017). That already includes the NT$1,600 application fee and the NT$32 online payment processing fee.

Once the payment is accepted, you will receive confirmation via email. And then, the waiting game begins. But it won’t be that long. If everything is fine, you should expect your visa within the next 3 days.

If they have more questions, you might still be asked to submit documents.

Option 2: Apply for a Regular Visa.

Here’s a complete list of requirements if you’re traveling to Taiwan for tourism. Prepare 1 original copy and 1 photocopy of each!

Hi, is it okay to include a cover letter in the visa application documents?

yoshke

is it okay if my uk visa is expired last august 2015?am i still qualified for visa free?im from philippines,,thanks

Denver de Guzman

Hi Yoshke, I think you are also qualified to have travel certificate if you also have a previous ROC Visa, I tried getting one and I got approved. that page where you are applying for travel certificate it says “The applicant possesses an entry visa or resident card issued by the ROC at any point in the past 10 years and has no record of immigration irregularities or law violations in Taiwan. However, holders of ROC entry visas bearing the remark FL (i.e., foreign laborer) or X (i.e., others), as well as holders of ROC resident cards with stated purpose of residence being foreign laborer (i.e., 外勞), are not eligible for an ROC Travel Authorization Certificate.”

And one of the visas accepted is ROC (Taiwan) Hope this helps other travelers too :)

Nikki

Your article is really helpful! Thanks for writing. Quick Question, part of the asks in the eVisa application is address in Taiwan, now I haven’t actually booked a place yet cause it may be for pointless if I don’t get approved. Is there a way around this one?

Best, Nikki

Hi, I have an expired UK TOURIST visa (2014). Do I still qualify for the visa-free certificate? Thanks in advance. :)

Taiwan explores visa extension for Filipino tourists

The Taiwan Tourism Board is considering extending the visa-free entry for Filipino tourists until 2025, enabling them to stay in Taiwan without a visa.

Taiwan is a popular destination for foreign tourists, including Filipinos, with a target of 225,000 Filipino visitors by the end of this year.

To entice more Filipino tourists, the Taiwan Tourism Board will conduct a raffle offering 5,000 New Taiwan Dollars (approximately AED 573.08) in shopping vouchers to lucky travelers.

According to a GMA News report, interested individuals can register on Taiwan’s Lucky Land website seven days before their trip for a chance to win.

Additionally, the Philippine government, through the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO) in Taipei, aims to encourage Taiwanese nationals to visit the Philippines, particularly through “Golf Tourism,” which offers cost-effective golfing experiences compared to Taiwan.

MECO Chairman Silvestre Bello noted the growing interest of Taiwanese people in golf and highlighted the potential benefits of this initiative.

“The interest of Taiwanese people in golf is increasing, so we are capturing that,” Bello said.
