Skid Row is one of the most popular and endearing Heavy Metal bands to come out of America. The apex of the group’s career took place in the late 80s and early 90s; however they are still actively performing and recording.

The band formed in 1986, but did not have a stable line up until the following year. The group was started by New Jersey natives Rachel Bolan who played the bass and Dave “The Snake” Sabo the group’s guitarist. In addition to those founding members, the band congealed into a core lineup consisting of vocalist Sebastian Bach, guitarist Scotti Hill, and drummer Rob Affuso.

The band had gathered somewhat of a following touring small clubs throughout the east coast of the United States. The group was in a way taken under the care of Sabo’s long-time friend Jon Bon Jovi and was signed by Bon Jovi’s manager Doc McGhee. Things started to fall into place for the band after that. They entered in a record contract with Atlantic Records in 1988 and subsequently recorded their debut self-titled album with renowned producer Michael Wagener who was responsible for producing works for Metallica, Ozzy Osbourne and White Lion. Soon after recording their debut the band landed a stint opening for Bon Jovi on their “New Jersey tour”.

The album came out on 24 January 1989 and was an instant success. It peaked to No. 6 on The Billboard 200 and was loaded with the following 3 top 10 hits: “18 and Life”, “I Remember You” and “Youth Gone Wild”. Since the album’s release it has sold over 5 million copies and despite critics previous tendencies to pan heavy metal albums it managed to score positive reviews.

The band hit the road again with rock giants Aerosmith and entered in the studio to record their follow up album “Slave to the Grind” with Wagener. Their sophomore release came out in 1991 and marked a stylistic change for the band. Their sound was more stark and raw and incorporated experimental styles such as speed metal. Despite the band’s deviation from the mainstream rock sound they went on to repeat the commercial success that they experienced with their first album. “Slave to the Grind” put the band at No. 1 on the American charts and saw them opening for Guns N’ Roses.

The band released their third album “Subhuman Race” in 1995. Though it would not match the success of their first two albums, it managed to chart in the top 40s. The band promoted this release by opening for Van Halen.

The lineup of Skid Row dramatically changed with the departure of lead singer Sebastian Bach. Although the band did not release an album until 8 years later, they did continue to tour. Some of their dates were with KISS. The band would go on to release one other full length album “Revolutions per Minute” and also played their biggest show ever, playing the Polish Woodstock to over 500,000 attendees.

Live reviews

When I read that Skid Row were returning to my city I immediately became excited. I had seen them perform nearly 20 years ago. Upon arriving at the venue, a rush of excitement ran through me. This concert was going to be amazing.

I found my seat and waited for the show to begin. Behind the stage, a large screen showed clips from prior performances. The crowd was excited before the band even took the stage. The lights went on and the band started to perform "Monkey Business." The singer looked different. It wasn't Sebastian Bach. I asked someone who it was. They said it is Johnny Solinger. I soon forgot the absence of Sebastian Bach. This singer was amazing. When he sang "18 and Life" and "I Remember You" he sounded as as good as Sebastian.

I felt like I was seeing the real Skid Row. The band sounded better than ever.Towards the end of the set, they played a few new songs. The crowd seemed to love these songs as much as the old songs. This made me very hopeful for the future of the band. Even with the loss of members, they have managed to continue and get better. Overall, the show was great. The singer was amazing. His vocals were so clear, I couldn't believe he was actually singing live. I look forward to seeing Skid Row again.

This concert was awesome! All of the bands that played were great. I hadn't been to a concert recently so I went to see Skid Row with a friend of mine. At the Starland Ballroom. Skid Row was the best it was my first time seeing the new lead singer with the band. You did a great show! I checked their tour dates and they've heading overseas for a while. Hope to see Skid Row again sometime in the future. David

Fantastic! Energetic, great vocals, acoustics well balanced. Animated. My only complaint is I was front center, rocking out like a tornado in a trailer park, but the lead singer rarely lingered in middle. He was at one side or the other, as were the others. Felt invisible. No connection. I can have that at a large venue. Aside from that, it was a great show.

Skid Row is an awesome band to see live! The jam during Monkey Business with Dave Sabo and Scotti Hill was mad cool, and all five members have endless energy. These guys are clearly doing what they love, and I love seeing them live! Skid Row will forever be the Youth Gone Wild!

The show was awesome. Great set list, basically the whole first 2 albums plus a Ramones song.

New singer is good but not great. It was a little too loud and too much high end so it was a little hard to hear all the solos clearly.Overall, they kicked was and would go again

Venue sucks (Turning Stone Casino). Had a good view from the "Kings Tables" -but, tables, @ a effing Rock & Roll show.. bad enough there's chairs at the stage..

Doors opened @ 8pm.. Got there at 20 min past & SR was already on stage and it was over by 925. Lame.

Skid row did a GREAT job. I was pleasantly surprised because their original lead singer left some BIG shoes to fill. But the new guy has a great voice and is a really great front man. (of course no one will ever be Sebastian). But he totally brought it.

diane-traver’s profile image

The show was great. The supporting bands were equally as good as Skid Row.

Quireboys rocked the place and the drinking contest on stage was a lovely touch.

Could do with more sellers though located in a better place as very crowded

mark-bootyman’s profile image

Awesome show! Hollowstar, Crash Diet, and The Quireboys were on point as well. Engine Rooms is a quality little venue!

This is only a short review cos that’s all that needs to be said!

Details of Skid Row's UK tour with Winger follows the arrival of new single The Gang's All Here

Skid Row with their backs to the camera

Skid Row have announced their first European tour since the arrival of new singer Erik Grönwall , formerly frontman with Swedish arena rockers HEAT.

The band's The Gang's All Here tour – named after their forthcoming album – will kick off at KK's Steel Mill in Wolverhampton, and climax at Norwich's Epic Studios on November 8.

Support comes from Winger, Phil X & The Drills, and Collateral. Skid Row are currently supporting Scorpions during their Las Vegas residency, and will then head out across the US and Canada, mixing headline shows with dates on the Live To Rock tour, which features Skid Row, Warrant, and a revolving cast of support acts including Winger, Quiet Riot and Lita Ford. Full dates below, check venues for lineup details.

New studio album  The Gang’s All Here  will be released on October 14, and was produced by Nick Raskulinecz, known for his work with Foo Fighters , Rush , Alice In Chains , Halestorm and Evanescence .

“We are beyond excited to release this record," say Rachel Bolan and Snake Sabo. "It has been a long time in the making and a lot of hard work has been put into it by the band and our producer Nick Raskulinecz. And the addition of Erik has lifted the songs to new heights."

If you're looking for a rocking good time in 2023, look no further than Skid Row and Buckcherry who are teaming up for "The Gang's All Here" 2023 U.S. tour next spring.

The two veteran bands are looking forward to a killer tour to kick off their 2023 activity. Skid Row have seen a significant uptick over the past year with the band releasing The Gang's All Here album with new vocalist Erik Gronwall. The album debuted at No. 14 on the Billboard 200 Album Chart earlier this year.

The ever-busy Buckcherry have also been hard at work of late, with the tour serving as a pre-cursor to their tenth studio album expected to arrive in June of next year.

The tour kicks off March 9 in Bowler, Wisconsin, with shows booked through the March 31 tour finale in Hinton, Oklahoma. All cities, dates and venues can be viewed at the bottom of this post. The tour will also feature No Resolve opening select dates.

“I’m psyched to hit the road together with our friends in Buckcherry. This will be the coolest, most badass tour of 2023," says Skid Row's Rachel Bolan . Buckcherry's Josh Todd adds, “Put two great live rock and roll bands together and watch the sparks fly Buckcherry and Skid Row, the perfect welcome to spring tour”

Tickets for the run will go on sale this Friday (Dec. 9) at 10AM local time via Ticketmaster . Skid Row will also have an artist pre-sale available starting tomorrow (Dec. 7) at 10AM local time for subscribers to their newsletter. The local venue pre-sale and Spotify pre-sale will start Dec. 8 at 10AM local time. There are also VIP packages being offered by both acts.

SKID ROW BOOKED TO OPEN FOR KISS ON EUROPEAN DATES

PRPhotos.com

Skid Row has been announced as opening act for KISS during their European tour during June and July. They’ll make stops in the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Italy, and Germany.

The New Jersey rockers go back a long way with KISS, including a dispute over whether to tour with the New York icons, which is said to have played a part in the departure of singer Sebastian Bach in 1996.

In 2000, Skid Row played the first KISS farewell tour and bassist Rachel Bolan told Blabbermouth that, at the time, he didn’t believe they would actually stop touring. He said, “I have a feeling, as long as they can keep doing it… Maybe it'll take a break, maybe it'll be a decent hiatus, but I have a feeling we're not gonna see the last of KISS.”

Last fall, Skid Row recorded a live album in London and plan to release it sometime this year.

SKID ROW Bassist RACHEL BOLAN To Sit Out European Shows Due To 'Urgent Family Matter'

SKID ROW bassist Rachel Bolan will sit out some of the shows on the band's European tour due to "an urgent family matter." Filling in for him at those concerts is SKID ROW 's guitar tech Casey Sproatt , who previously stepped in for guitarist Dave "Snake" Sabo last October for some of the shows on its U.K. tour after Sabo tested positive for COVID-19. Sproatt also played guitar for SKID ROW in April 2022 when Scotti Hill was forced to miss the band's concert in Ashland, Kentucky after contracting COVID-19.

On Saturday (June 10), SKID ROW released the following statement via social media: "TO THE SKID ROW FAITHFUL! Rachel Bolan will not be performing on some of the shows on the European tour due to an urgent family matter. He hopes to join the tour as soon as possible."

Fan-filmed video of SKID ROW 's June 10 concert at the Sweden Rock Festival in Sölvesborg, Sweden — featuring Sproatt on bass — can be seen below.

SKID ROW 's latest addition, Swedish-born singer Erik Grönwall , famously went from auditioning for the competition show "Swedish Idol" back in 2009 by singing a cover of SKID ROW 's "18 And Life" to now fronting the band.

Grönwall joined SKID ROW as the replacement for ZP Theart , who had been in the group for more than six years.

In March 2022, SKID ROW released its first single with Grönwall , "The Gang's All Here" . The song is the title track of the band's latest album, which arrived in October via earMUSIC .

SKID ROW recorded most of "The Gang's All Here" in Nashville, Tennessee with producer Nick Raskulinecz , who has previously worked with FOO FIGHTERS , STONE SOUR , HALESTORM , EVANESCENCE , RUSH and ALICE IN CHAINS , among many others.

Grönwall , who was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in March 2021 and was declared cancer free six months later after receiving a bone marrow transplant, released his cover version of "18 And Life" that same month via all streaming platforms.

During an appearance on a recent episode of "The BlackSheep Podcast" , Sabo spoke about how the introduction Grönwall brought about a rejuvenated energy and a burst of creativity that had been previously missing for quite some time.

"One of the great things about the way the band is now is that we've already started writing for the next record," Snake said. "I mean, there's four potential songs for the next record already. And who knows whether they'll make it or not. We've never done that before. So that's kind of where everybody's head is at. We're really staying in the moment, but we're also utilizing this newfound energy, shall I say, to be really creative and productive.

"We always kind of went by write the record, record the record, tour, get off tour and get done with touring, write the record, record the record, tour. That's been kind of the way that we've worked," he explained. "But not this time. We're actively writing. Erik is a very creative guy. He's a really good guitar player. So it really helps. We're exchanging ideas back and forth again and writing during soundchecks and things like that. So it's been nothing but positive."
