Versatile rewards

Earning and redeeming points is simple on this card. You earn a flat 1.5 points per dollar spent on all purchases. Points can be redeemed as a statement credit toward a broad range of travel expenses , such as airline tickets, hotel stays, amusement park entry fees, RV rentals and more. General travel cards from other issuers tend to have narrower definitions of "travel," often leaving cardholders with fewer options when redeeming rewards. You can also redeem points for restaurant purchases.

Redemptions start at just 2,500 points, so you don’t have to make a big purchase to cash in rewards. Points are worth 1 cent apiece when redeemed for travel.

Sign-up bonus

Like any good travel credit card, the Bank of America® Travel Rewards credit card starts you off with a sign-up bonus: 25,000 online bonus points after you make at least $1,000 in purchases in the first 90 days of account opening - that can be a $250 statement credit toward travel purchases. .

For a $0 -annual-fee card, that’s an excellent offer. The reasonable spending requirement makes it relatively easy to nab, too.

Preferred Rewards

This straightforward card gets far more exciting if you keep a lot of money in Bank of America® or Merrill accounts. That’s because if you qualify for the bank’s Preferred Rewards program — by maintaining combined balances of $20,000 or more among eligible accounts — you can earn a higher rewards rate on this card (and all eligible Bank of America® credit cards), along with other benefits.

With combined balances of over $100,000, for example, you could earn 2.62 points per dollar spent on this card, according to the bank. Remember, you have to be enrolled in the Preferred Rewards program to get that boost.

No foreign transaction fees

This card charges no foreign transaction fees, so you won't have to deal with any annoying 3% charges while making purchases outside the U.S. That benefit, combined with the card's other budget-friendly features, regularly earns it a spot on our list of Best No Foreign Transaction Fee Credit Cards .

0% intro APR offer

The Bank of America® Travel Rewards credit card is one of the few travel cards that features a generous 0% APR period: It boasts 0% Intro APR for 15 billing cycles for purchases, and for any balance transfers made in the first 60 days. After the Intro APR offer ends, a Variable APR that’s currently 18.24% - 28.24% will apply . That can come in handy if you book a trip using the card and want to pay it off over a few months, instead of all at once. And while you’re floating that balance interest-free, you can score that sign-up bonus.

Travel rewards credit cards often provide ways to earn rewards you could redeem toward travel redemptions, including flights and hotel stays. But how you earn these rewards varies by each credit card.

With the Bank of America ® Travel Rewards credit card, you get a simple earning structure that’s easy to understand and use in everyday life. This card also offers a valuable sign-up bonus and a $0 annual fee.

We’ll take a look at Bank of America Travel Rewards benefits and whether this card deserves a spot in your wallet.

About the Bank of America Travel Rewards card

7 bank of america travel rewards benefits, additional benefits, drawbacks to the bank of america travel rewards card, bottom line.

The Bank of America Travel Rewards card is a rewards card focused on flexible travel and dining redemptions. It also offers a simple rewards rate of 1.5 points per $1 spent on all purchases.

Some of the card’s primary benefits include:

  • A $0 annual fee
  • A helpful welcome bonus
  • Potential Visa Signature perks

A $0 annual fee is typically a clear indication of immediate value because there’s no annual cost to offset by earning rewards or using benefits. However, no-annual-fee credit cards often have limited benefits compared to cards with annual fees.

The Bank of America Travel Rewards card’s straightforward earning rate could make sense if you want a travel card but aren’t sure about complicated earning and redeeming strategies. The welcome offer and potential Visa Signature perks, including roadside dispatch and emergency travel assistance, could also add more value for new cardholders.

Check out our  Bank of America Travel Rewards credit card review.

Here are the main Bank of America Travel Rewards benefits:

1. Generous sign-up bonus

The Bank of America Travel Rewards offers this welcome bonus: Earn 25,000 online bonus points after you make at least $1,000 in purchases in the first 90 days of account opening - that can be a $250 statement credit toward travel purchases.

This sign-up bonus is particularly generous and likely attainable if you use the card for everyday purchases. This could include buying groceries, gas, food, and more. This type of strategy could effectively turn your everyday purchases into rewards to help offset future travel expenses.

2. Simple earning

Credit card rewards typically offer valuable points, miles, or cash back for making purchases and qualifying for sign-up bonuses. However, earning rewards can get complicated depending on the credit card.

With the Bank of America Travel Rewards, you can earn 1.5 points per $1 spent on all purchases. And that’s it. You don’t have bonus categories or rotating categories to keep track of. As long as you make an eligible purchase, you already know how many rewards points you should be earning.

If you’re new to earning travel rewards, this could offer a straightforward way to get started.

3. Low annual cost

The Bank of America Travel Rewards has a $0 annual fee. This means there is no annual cost for your card membership.

Having no annual cost immediately increases the card’s value because you’re paying the card issuer to be a card member. Instead, you have the opportunity to earn rewards and use card perks freely.

4. Flexible redemptions

It’s nice to be able to earn travel rewards, but only if the travel redemptions align with your lifestyle and goals. Not every traveler is the same — some could look to use rewards on flights, whereas others prefer hotel stays.

Fortunately, the Bank of America Travel Rewards offers plenty of flexibility for any rewards you earn. Available redemption options include:

  • Statement credits toward eligible dining- and travel-related purchases
  • Cash rewards , including a paper check, a deposit into a Bank of America checking or savings account, or a credit to an eligible Merrill account

Statement credits can be applied toward eligible travel and dining purchases you make. Bank of America has a generous pool of eligible purchase categories, including the following:

  • Hotels, motels, timeshares, trailer parks, and campgrounds
  • Motorhome and recreational vehicle rentals
  • Car rental agencies
  • Truck and trailer rentals
  • Cruise lines
  • Travel agencies, tour operators, and real estate agents
  • Operators of passenger trains and buses
  • Taxis and limousines
  • Ferries and boat rentals
  • Parking lots and garages
  • Tolls and bridge fees
  • Tourist attractions and exhibits such as art galleries
  • Amusement parks, carnivals, and circuses
  • Aquariums and zoos
  • Eating places, restaurants, and fast-food restaurants
  • Drinking places, bars, taverns, cocktail lounges, nightclubs, and discotheques

Having such a wide choice of eligible purchases helps increase the flexibility of your rewards. This means you could redeem your rewards on typical travel redemptions such as flights, hotel stays, and rental cars. But other options might also work, including amusement parks, RV rentals, and loads of dining purchases.

Keep in mind that redemption values vary depending on the option you choose. You typically need at least 2,500 points to redeem for statement credits or cash rewards, and gift card redemptions start at 3,125 points. Statement credits are worth 1 cent per point, which means 2,500 points would be $25 in credit.

However, cash rewards and gift card redemptions are worth less. Using 2,500 points for cash would only net you $15 and gift card values vary.

5. Bank of America Preferred Rewards®

Bank of America Travel Rewards cardholders have the opportunity to access the Preferred Rewards program. There’s no cost to join this program, but you have to meet certain requirements to become a Preferred Rewards member, including:

  • Having an active and eligible Bank of America checking account
  • Having a three-month combined average daily balance of at least $20,000 or more in eligible Bank of America deposit accounts and/or Merrill investment accounts

Meeting these requirements could qualify you for at least Preferred Rewards Gold status, though the Platinum and Platinum Honors tiers are higher. You need at least a three-month combined average daily balance of $50,000 for Platinum, and at least $100,000 for Platinum Honors.

The main benefit of Preferred Rewards is that Bank of America Travel Rewards cardholders receive between a 25% to 75% bonus on rewards. Gold members receive a 25% bonus, Platinum members receive a 50% bonus, and Platinum Honors members receive a 75% bonus.

Here’s how it breaks down. Let’s say you spend $10,000 on your card in a year. You would typically receive 15,000 points or $150 ($10,000 x 0.015 = $150) for this spend. But with a 75% bonus, you would receive 26,250 points or $262.50 ($10,000 x 0.02625 = $262.50). That’s $112.50 in added value for Platinum Honors members.

6. Low introductory APR offer

You might consider the Bank of America Travel Rewards card if you have upcoming large purchases.

7. Visa Signature perks

The Bank of America Travel Rewards is a Visa Signature card, which means it’s accepted in more than 200 countries and territories worldwide. Visa Signature cards also typically come with certain benefits depending on the card issuer, such as the following.

  • Roadside dispatch: Receive access to roadside dispatch services, including standard towing, tire changing, and fuel delivery. This is a pay-per-use assistance program.
  • Travel and emergency assistance services: Receive 24/7 access to emergency travel assistance, including medical referral assistance, legal referral assistance, lost luggage locator service, and emergency translation service.
  • ID Navigator by NortonLifeLock: Receive access to certain security features to help prevent identity theft, including dark web monitoring, stolen wallet assistance, data breach notifications, and restoration assistance.

Consider these additional Bank of America Travel Rewards benefits:

  • No reward expiration: Points earned with this card don’t expire as long as your account remains open, and your travel redemptions have no blackout dates. However, points for dining and travel statement credits can only be redeemed toward eligible purchases made within the past 12 months.
  • No foreign transaction fees: This card has no foreign transaction fees, which are typically additional fees added on when making foreign purchases.
  • Contactless: Use your contactless card to tap to pay anywhere Visa credit cards are accepted and you see the contactless symbol.
  • Digital wallet: Add your card to popular digital wallets such as Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay.
  • Mobile and online banking: Access your card account on the go by using your Bank of America online account through a web browser or mobile app.
  • FICO Score: Opt into complimentary monthly updates to your FICO Score.
  • Account alerts: Customize and receive alerts about due dates and paid payments as well as other notifications.

Potential drawbacks of the Bank of America Travel Rewards card include:

  • No bonus categories: Many rewards cards provide additional earning categories to earn bonus rewards. This card has a simple flat-rate earning structure without bonus categories. Check out our page that lets you compare credit cards to see how each one works.
  • Preferred Rewards requirements: Earning a rewards bonus from Preferred Rewards sounds great, but not everyone will meet the high account balance requirements.
  • Redemption value: This card doesn’t provide good redemption value if you choose cash rewards or gift cards. You could still choose these options, but statement credits provide more value.
  • Card qualification: This card typically requires a good or excellent credit score to qualify, which might not make sense for everyone.

Does Bank of America Travel Rewards have travel insurance?

The Bank of America Travel Rewards credit card does offer travel insurance through its Visa Signature benefits. Travel insurance benefits currently available to cardmembers include:

  • Lost baggage reimbursement

The Travel Rewards card also offers Visa Signature benefits including roadside dispatch and travel and emergency assistance services.

What can you use Bank of America travel points on?

Bank of America travel points from the Bank of America Travel Rewards credit card can be used as statement credits toward most travel and purchases. These are some of the eligible purchases:

  • Restaurants

How much are Bank of America travel points worth?

Bank of America travel points are worth varying amounts depending on the travel redemption. The Bank of America Travel Rewards credit card offers redemptions of statement credits, cash rewards, and gift cards.

Statement credit redemptions are worth 1 cent per point, so 2,500 points would equal $25. Cash rewards and gift card redemptions are worth less than 1 cent per point.

The Bank of America Travel Rewards credit card could be a good fit as a beginner travel card. It offers a generous sign-up bonus, a simple earning structure, and has a $0 annual fee. But with beginner travel cards, don’t expect premium travel benefits or advanced redemption options.

Other travel credit cards could include airport lounge access or annual travel credits to use how you see fit. Many of these cards might also offer ways to transfer your rewards to airline and hotel loyalty programs, providing opportunities to be more flexible with your points or miles.

Bottom line

This no-annual-fee travel card is a flexible alternative to more complex travel rewards cards that may take more work to maximize. However, since you can’t transfer points to travel partners and there aren’t any travel-specific benefits, it can feel like a flat-rate cash back card with more red tape.

Frequently asked questions

Bank of america® travel rewards credit card overview.

The Bank of America Travel Rewards credit card is a decent flat-rate rewards card for occasional travelers who want to avoid an annual fee. Since this travel rewards credit card offers a flat rewards rate and isn’t tied to specific hotel or airline partners, you won’t need to adjust your spending to fit into any particular category and can book your travel with any provider.

Bank of America credit cards also have a looser definition of travel than cards from other issuers. This lets you earn rewards for purchases at campgrounds, travel agencies, zoos, art galleries and more. You can also redeem your points for a statement credit toward dining purchases.

However, this card lacks travel-specific features you might find on competing travel cards, and you can’t use rewards to book travel directly through an issuer portal or a transfer partner. This could be a dealbreaker if you’re a frequent traveler since these redemption methods typically offer the best value. Chase , Capital One and American Express travel cards all offer this feature, which drastically increases the value of their reward programs.

The lengthy intro APR on purchases and balance transfers offers more room for managing debt than other rewards cards.

You can boost your rewards rate by up to 75 percent as an eligible Preferred Rewards member, which could make it one of the most rewarding flat-rate travel cards for no annual fee.

You can redeem its flexible points to cover a comprehensive list of travel and dining purchases — even if those purchases are nearly a year old.

The minimum redemption of 2,500 points for travel or cash back (worth $25) is higher than other competing cards.

It offers some of the best travel-related redemption coverage, but the rewards rate is low if you aren’t a Preferred Rewards member.

The limited travel benefits make travel less convenient than it can be with other cards.

Why you might want the Bank of America Travel Rewards credit card

The Bank of America Travel Rewards Card offers a decent flat reward rate on every purchase. Not only that, you can pay down your purchases with an intro APR offer comparable to many dedicated low-interest cards.

Intro APR: Great length for purchases and balance transfers

The Bank of America Travel Rewards card offers a 0 percent intro APR for 15 billing cycles on purchases and balance transfers made within the first 60 days. A 3 percent balance transfer fee applies for transfers made within 60 days of account opening. After your intro balance transfer fee offer ends, the fee for future balance transfers is 4 percent. After the promotional period, an 18.24 percent to 28.24 percent variable ongoing APR applies.

Compared to competing reward cards that offer a 12-month intro APR period or shorter, this is a fairly lengthy offer that can provide you with more than enough time to pay down a transferred balance or big purchase during the first year. Once your intro APR offer ends, you’ll still enjoy long-term value from the card by earning flat-rate rewards on purchases.

Welcome offer: Decent value compared to similar cards

Bank of America offers 25,000 bonus points when you spend at least $1,000 on qualifying purchases within 90 days of opening your account. If you redeem these points for a statement credit, they’ll be worth about $250 in statement credit toward travel. This is a generous offer for a card with no annual fee.

A $250 value is slightly higher than what you’ll find with other no-annual-fee cards, but remember that some competing cards only require a $500 spend to earn a $200 bonus: You have to spend double with the Bank of America Travel Rewards card to earn an extra $50 in rewards.  But on the bright side, the Bank of America Travel Rewards card doesn’t come with an annual fee that eats into your reward earnings.

Rewards: Earn more with the preferred rewards program

The Bank of America Travel Rewards credit card allows you to earn unlimited 1.5X points on all purchases. However, the Bank of America Preferred Rewards® program gives the Travel Rewards card an edge over similar competing cards if you already have an eligible account with Bank of America or Merrill.

Depending on your status tier, you can earn 25 percent to 75 percent bonus points on every purchase. That means Platinum Honors Preferred Rewards members can earn up to 2.62X points on all purchases and up to 5.25X points on Travel Center purchases. Plus, you could receive other benefits like boosted interest rates on savings accounts and reduced interest rates on your home equity and auto loans.

Here are Bank of America’s Preferred Rewards status tiers:

  • Gold (at least a $20,000 combined balance): 25 percent bonus rewards
  • Platinum (at least a $50,000 combined balance): 50 percent bonus rewards
  • Platinum Honors (at least a $100,000 combined balance): 75 percent bonus rewards

The Preferred Rewards program also offers a Diamond Tier status above the Platinum Honors Tier, but it carries the same 75 percent bonus rewards boost and is only available to account holders with a combined balance of $1 million to $10 million.

This boost results in a card with one of the best flat rewards rates available, especially for no annual fee. It could make the Travel Rewards card an exceptional deal since rival cards typically max out at 2X rewards on general spending and 5X rewards on comparable travel portal purchases through the issuer.

Redemption: Fair options for a variety of travel and dining categories

You can redeem your points for gift cards, cash or a statement credit to cover travel-related purchases. Even better, you can request credit for your travel-related purchases up to 12 months after you make them. This feature opens the door to exceptional deals you might not find with other travel reward programs, such as discounted bookings through external travel websites.

You can also redeem points for cash back as a check or direct deposit to an eligible Bank of America checking or savings account or Merrill Cash Management account, though there’s a 2,500-point redemption minimum for travel credits and cash and a 3,125-point minimum for gift cards.

One of the best features of the Bank of America Travel Rewards card’s travel credit redemption is that it covers categories that may not typically qualify as travel or dining. For example, you can redeem points on admission tickets to tourist attractions, bar and nightclub purchases, transit and RV and boat rentals. However, some travel or dining-related expenses, such as in-flight goods and services and duty-free airport purchases, aren’t eligible for statement credits.

Knowing which purchases qualify for credits can get confusing, so here’s a list of Bank of America Travel Rewards card categories eligible for travel credits:

  • Eligible travel-related category examples
  • Eligible dining-related category examples
  • Hotels and motels
  • Trailer parks, motor homes and recreational vehicle rentals
  • Campgrounds
  • Car, truck, trailer and boat rentals
  • Cruise lines
  • Travel agencies, tour operators and real estate agents
  • Transit including passenger trains, buses, taxis, limousines, ferries, parking lots and garages, tolls and bridge fees
  • Tourist attractions and exhibits like art galleries, amusement parks, carnivals, circuses, aquariums, zoos
  • Restaurants and eating places
  • Fast food restaurants
  • Cocktail lounges

Why you might want a different travel card

Though the Bank of America Travel Rewards Card has plenty of perks, it has some drawbacks compared to competitors, including a lower value for cash back redemption and the inability to transfer points to hotel or airline partners.

Flexibility: Low redemption value and you can’t transfer points

This card offers a solid rewards rate on your purchases, whether you’re traveling or at home, but these travel rewards work differently than typical bonus miles. Instead of using rewards to book travel, you can redeem Bank of America travel rewards as statement credits on travel or dining purchases, making this card function more like a cash back credit card .

When you redeem this way, they're worth 1 cent each — so 25,000 points equals $250 in statement credit. But redeeming your rewards for anything else is a value loss. When you redeem for gift cards, the value of your points will vary by retailer, leading to inconsistent value. And when you redeem for cash, your points are only worth 0.6 cents each (or $150 for every 25,000 points).

Compared to Chase and other issuers with robust travel reward programs, this card offers more flexible reward categories, but you can’t book travel with your points or transfer them to travel partners for a higher value. Bank of America Travel Rewards points are stuck at a maximum value of 1.0 cents cents per point. According to Bankrate’s point valuations , several issuers’ points or miles can be worth around 2 cents each on average with the right transfer partner.

Perks: Doesn’t quite stand out compared to other travel cards

The Bank of America Travel Rewards card isn’t as robust in perks as other travel-oriented rewards credit cards. Along with basic features like free access to your credit score, overdraft protection and account alerts, it has just a few extra benefits outside the Preferred Rewards program that might be helpful during your travels, such as:

  • BankAmeriDeals : Bank of America cardholders have exclusive access to BankAmeriDeals , the issuer’s version of card-linked limited-time offer programs like Amex Offers or Chase Offers. You can log into your account and usually earn anywhere from 5 percent to 50 percent extra cash back (up to a certain limit) or a sum of cash back (usually $4 to $35) for spending a certain amount at participating restaurants and other merchants after activating the respective offer. BankAmeriDeals won’t rake in big bucks, but the “coins” you earn for regularly using the program can help you access upgraded deals.
  • Visa Signature benefits : As a Visa credit card , your Bank of America Travel Rewards card grants access to a portfolio of Visa Signature perks that can be useful while traveling. Contact your issuer to determine the specific features your card offers. You can expect standard benefits like extended warranty protection, Visa Signature® Concierge services, Roadside Dispatch®, lost luggage reimbursement and travel and emergency assistance. However, you’ll want to contact Bank of America to determine the specific features your card offers.
  • Museums On Us : If you love planning day trips to popular museums, then this benefit is an underrated gem. Simply presenting your Bank of America debit or credit card and a valid photo ID will grant you free admission to over 225 cultural institutions during the first weekend of each month.

However, in the travel card landscape, these features aren't particularly competitive. Many of the more popular travel cards offer airport perks such as TSA PreCheck or Global Entry credits, in-flight or airline credit, airport lounge access, free checked bag(s), rental car assistance and more. You’ll normally have to pay an annual fee for these types of travel cards, but these card perks typically offer enough value to offset the cost of that annual fee.

Fees: Not terrible, but c harges a balance transfer fee

Though it lacks an annual fee and has a long intro APR offer for purchases and balance transfers, the Bank of America Travel Rewards card charges a 3 percent fee for each balance transfer you make (for the first 60 days; after the intro balance transfer fee offer ends, the fee for future balance transfers is 4 percent).

If one of your primary goals in opening a new credit card is to consolidate existing debt and save on interest, this fee could prove a dealbreaker. If you have an especially large debt to transfer or want to perform several balance transfers over time, a dedicated balance transfer credit card might better serve your needs.

How the Bank of America Travel Rewards credit card compares to other travel cards

If you value flexibility, the Bank of America Travel Rewards card is one of the best travel credit cards with no annual fee . It doesn’t operate like a traditional travel card with bonus points or miles, but works like a flat-rate cash back card — except your statement credits are restricted to travel and dining-related categories. But if you don’t travel frequently and you like to redeem for cash back, you’re probably better off with a true flat-rate cash back card.

Bank of America Travel Rewards vs. Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card

The Bank of America Travel Rewards card lets you redeem your points to cover travel and travel-related purchases like dining and attractions. This makes it a superb choice if you don’t always need a flight or rental car for a vacation. However, a true travel card can offer similar versatility if you want more travel-based perks.

However, a true travel card can offer similar versatility if you want more travel-based perks.

The Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card offers more traditional travel card rewards but maintains a streamlined experience. It offers a higher rewards rate of 2X unlimited miles on all qualifying purchases, credit toward TSA Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fees and the opportunity to earn a larger welcome bonus. It also rewards hotel and rental car travel purchases that you book through the Capital One Travel portal at a higher rewards rate. But as a tradeoff, you’ll need to pay the card’s annual fee and be okay with slightly less flexible reward categories.

The Venture card’s rewards can also increase in value with the right transfer partner. According to Bankrate’s latest mile valuation, Venture miles are worth an average of 1.7 cents per mile when you transferred to the right high-value partner, and the bulk of Capital One’s partners have a 1:1 transfer rate. So if you’re willing to trade some elbow grease for greater reward value, choosing the Venture card is likely the wiser route.

Bank of America Travel Rewards vs. Bank of America® Premium Rewards® Credit Card

If you’re undecided about investing money into a card with an annual fee but would like to benefit from a higher rewards rate on specific travel and dining purchases, consider the Bank of America® Premium Rewards® credit card . The Bank of America® Premium Rewards® credit card offers 2X points on travel and dining and 1.5X points on all other purchases.

The card also offers valuable travel perks typically found on top-tier travel cards like trip cancellation/interruption insurance, lost and delayed luggage coverage and trip delay reimbursement.

Although the rewards rate on travel and dining is only a minor upgrade and the card lacks notable bells and whistles, you’re getting plenty for the price. Frequent flyers can completely offset the annual fee via annual airline incidental statement credits and Global Entry or TSA PreCheck application fee credits (applicable every four years). Keep in mind that the incidental credits only cover costs like seat upgrades, baggage fees, airline lounge access and in-flight services rather than general airfare, but savvy travelers will find the Premium Rewards a much better deal than the base Travel Rewards card.

Since the Bank of America Travel Rewards card is a flat-rate card, the best cards to pair it with will reward your most frequent spending categories with higher rates. Your Travel Rewards card points are best used to cover travel and dining purchases, so you’ll want a card that covers spending outside those two categories.

The Blue Cash Preferred Card from American Express

The Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express could be one of the best cash back cards for your everyday spending. It earns high cash back rates on popular spending categories like U.S. supermarkets, select U.S. streaming services, transit and U.S. gas station purchases. This card has an annual fee, but the sheer amount of earning potential could more than offset the cost.

The Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card

The Bank of America Travel Rewards card doesn’t offer many travel benefits or rewards, so you might look into a brand-specific airline credit card to cover those gaps. The Delta SkyMiles® Gold American Express Card has a $0 intro annual fee the first year (then $150), along with an impressive welcome bonus and perks such as Main Cabin 1 Priority boarding, 20 percent statement credit back on select in-flight purchases and after spending $10,000 in purchases in a year, you can receive a $200 Delta Flight Credit to use toward future travel.

Who is the Bank of America Travel Rewards Card right for?

The Bank of America Travel Rewards Card offers plenty of benefits, but it may not be the best option for everyone. It might be a good fit if you align with one of the following personas.

Budget travelers

If you’re seeking a travel rewards card with no annual fee and are willing to forgo luxury travel perks, then the Bank of America Travel Rewards Card makes sense. You can earn a higher reward rate on travel booked through the Bank of America Travel Center, which you can use to make more travel purchases.

Entertainment seekers

If you frequently visit amusement parks, go on family outings to zoos and aquariums, or visit cocktail clubs, this card might be valuable for you. These are rare categories to find on a rewards card, which gives the Travel Rewards card an interesting niche.

Bank of America loyalists

If you are a Preferred Rewards member or want to become one, you’ll benefit from the program's additional bonus points on every purchase, depending on your status tier. At the highest tiers you can earn up to 75 percent boosted bonus points, which gives the Travel Rewards card one of the strongest rewards rates on the market.

Bankrate’s Take — Is the Bank of America Travel Rewards credit card worth it?

The no-annual-fee Bank of America Travel Rewards card is a good choice for frequent travelers who value flexibility, particularly Preferred Rewards members already banking with Bank of America or Merrill.

Since you can redeem points for a travel rewards statement credit, you won’t have to deal with blackout dates or travel restrictions when redeeming, and you have the freedom to book through third-party sites for better travel deals. You can also use your points to cover a wide range of travel purchases, from aquarium tickets to hotel stays, which aren’t covered by comparable rewards cards.

However, there aren’t any travel-specific perks or opportunities to transfer rewards, so if you want richer travel opportunities you may find this card lacking. A 2 percent flat-rate cash back card may be a better option if you aren’t a Preferred Rewards member.

How we rated this card

We rate credit cards using a proprietary card scoring system that ranks each card’s estimated average rewards rate, estimated annual earnings, welcome bonus value, APR, fees, perks and more against those of other cards in its primary category.

Each card feature is assigned a weighting based on how important it is to people looking for a card in a given category. These features are then scored based on how they rank relative to the features on other cards in the category. Based on these calculations, each card receives an overall rating of 1-5 stars (with 5 being the highest possible score and 1 being the lowest).

We analyzed over 150 of the most popular rewards and cash back cards to determine where each stacked up based on their value, cost, benefits and more. Here are some of the key factors that influenced this card’s overall score and how the score influenced our review:

Rewards value

The primary criteria for a rewards or cash back card’s rating is its rewards value. This includes the card’s average rewards rate, estimated annual rewards earnings, sign-up bonus value and reward redemption value.

To estimate a card’s average annual rewards earnings, we first calculate its average rewards rate based on how much it earns in different bonus categories and how closely its categories align with the average person’s spending habits, according to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics .

Based on this data, we determine a “chargeable” spend (which purchases are likely to be put on a credit card and earn rewards). This includes the following spending by category:

  • Groceries: $5,200
  • Dining out: $3,000
  • Entertainment: $2,500
  • Gas: $2,100
  • Apparel and services: $1,700

Using this data, we assign a weighting to each of a card’s bonus categories. For example, a card’s grocery rewards rate receives a 23 percent weighting based on how much of the average person’s budget is spent on groceries. We also estimate the redemption value of points or miles from various issuer, airline and hotel rewards programs.

This weighting and rewards valuation allows us to estimate a card’s average annual rewards earnings — how many points or miles you’d earn with a given card if your spending was about average and you used the card for all of your purchases, as well as what those points are worth. We also use point valuations to determine a card’s sign-up bonus value

With these calculations complete, we assign each card a score based on how its average rewards earnings, sign-up bonus value, rewards rate and redemption value stack up against other rewards cards.

We also rate cards based on how much it costs to keep them in your wallet or carry a balance.

To start, each rewards or cash back card is scored based on whether it offers an intro APR and how its ongoing APR compares to the rates available on other rewards or cash back cards.

We also score each card based on how its annual fee influences its overall value.

We consider a card’s annual fee in two ways — how it ranks relative to the fees you’ll find on other cards in the category and how it impacts a card’s overall rewards value. Cards with an annual fee will always be at a slight disadvantage in our scoring system since annual fees inherently cut into your rewards value, but if a card offers terrific value via its ongoing rewards and perks, it can earn a high score even if it carries a high annual fee.

With this in mind, we rate a card based primarily on how its ongoing rewards value and ongoing perk value (such as annual credits or bonuses) stack up against other cards in the category when you subtract its annual fee.

Flexibility

We rate each card’s flexibility based on the restrictions it imposes on earning and redeeming rewards and factor this rating into a card’s overall score.

Flexibility factors include whether a card only allows you to earn a high rewards rate on a small amount of spending or requires you to meet a certain earning threshold before you can redeem rewards. We also examine whether your points are worth less when you redeem for some options versus others and whether a card gives you the flexibility to transfer rewards to airline and hotel partners.

We also score each card’s set of features – its perks and benefits — against five tiers of features to provide a rating.

We break down these tiers as follows:

  • Tier 1 has less than standard card features (an ultra-streamlined card that offers basic utility and next to nothing in the way of ancillary benefits.
  • Tier 2 includes the benefits you’d expect on standard Visa or Mastercard credit cards, such as free access to your credit score, car rental insurance and $0 liability for fraudulent charges.
  • Tier 3 includes “prime card” or better-than-average card features like cellphone insurance, lost luggage insurance, concierge services and purchase protection.
  • Tier 4 includes luxury features such as airport lounge access, elite status with an airline or hotel and credits for expedited security screening membership programs.
  • Tier 5 includes the sort of exemplary benefits you’ll find on top-tier luxury cards, such as high-value travel credits, cardholder memberships and other unique and valuable perks.

What credit score do you need for the Bank of America Travel Rewards card?

You’ll have the best approval odds if you apply for the Bank of America Travel Rewards card with a good to excellent credit score (a FICO score of 670 or higher or a VantageScore of 661 or higher).

How do you redeem Bank of America Travel Rewards points?

Once you log into your online banking account, select your card and navigate to the “Rewards” page. You can redeem your rewards for gift cards, cash back (as a check or direct deposit to an eligible savings or checking account with Bank of America or Merrill) or a statement credit for travel and dining purchases made in the last 12 months. Travel and cash redemptions‌ require a minimum of 2,500 points, while gift cards have a higher minimum of 3,125 points.

Does the Bank of America Travel Rewards card offer travel insurance?

Unfortunately, the standard Travel Rewards card doesn’t offer travel insurance. Although some no-annual-fee travel cards offer various travel protections, you’ll have to pony up for the Bank of America Premium Rewards card to receive insurance like trip cancellation/interruption protection, trip delay reimbursement, luggage protections and more.

A force multiplier for travel rewards: Wells Fargo Visa Signature credit card review

Wells Fargo Visa Signature Card _CCSL

Update: The Wells Fargo Propel American Express® card is no longer open to new applications. Some offers mentioned below are no longer available. View the current offers here .

Wells Fargo Visa Signature® card Overview

The Wells Fargo Visa Signature® card doesn't offer rewards that transfer to airline miles, but as you'll see, that shouldn't be a deal-breaker since it gives you the opportunity to earn an impressive 4.5% back in travel rewards on many of your purchases. Card Rating*: ⭐⭐⭐½

*Card Rating is based on the opinion of TPG's editors and is not influenced by the card issuer.

As more airlines move to dynamic — and usually higher — pricing of their mileage awards, they're giving travelers less incentive to use their own cobranded cards to earn frequent-flyer miles. Instead, award travel enthusiasts should be looking for ways to earn rewards from their credit cards that they can redeem for any flight on any airline. The Wells Fargo Visa Signature Card can be a great tool for doing just that. The points this card earns can be worth as much as 1.5 cents each toward flights. Better yet, carrying this card has the effect of increasing the value of points you earn from other Wells Fargo cards, which is why you shouldn't overlook it in your wallet.

First, the bad news: The card application is not currently available on the Wells Fargo site. But if you already carry this potential powerhouse, read on to see how you can leverage its benefits for maximum value.

The information for the Wells Fargo Visa Signature card has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

Who is this card for?

The Wells Fargo Visa Signature is a card for those who want to earn travel rewards without paying an annual fee or having to focus their energy on a single airline and hotel loyalty program. With this card you earn points that can be redeemed for flights on any airline, just like paying for tickets with cash. This is also a card that works well for those who already bank with Wells Fargo and want to manage their credit cards along with their other accounts.

Finally, this card's secret superpower is that it increases the value of the Wells Fargo Go Far Rewards earned from the bank's other cards, including the Wells Fargo Propel American Express® card (no longer available to new applicants). Normally, points earned from that card are worth 1 cent each toward airfare redemptions, but when you also carry the Wells Fargo Visa Signature card, they become worth 1.5 cents each.

The Wells Fargo Propel offers various bonus earning categories with up to 3x per dollar on:

  • Gas stations
  • Popular streaming services

It earns 1x on everything else. So if you used your Wells Fargo Propel to earn 3x on those special categories, and then combined your rewards with the ones from your Wells Fargo Visa Signature before redeeming for flights, you could be getting as much as 4.5% (3x with a 50% bonus) return on your spending for airfare redemptions, specifically.

The information for the Wells Fargo Propel has been collected independently by The Points Guy. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer.

Main benefits and perks

This card comes with strong benefits, including:

  • 0% intro APR financing for the first 15 months from account opening on both new purchases and balance transfers (then a variable APR of 12.49% to 25.49% applies)
  • Introductory balance fee of either $5 or 3%of the amount of each balance transfer, whichever is greater, for 120 days from account opening. After that, up to 5%for each balance transfer, with a minimum of $5.
  • Trip cancellation protection
  • Lost luggage reimbursement
  • Collision damage coverage on auto rentals
  • Purchase protection
  • Price protection
  • Extended warranty coverage
  • Mobile phone protection plan that covers you when you charge your phone service bill to your card
  • Visa Signature Luxury Hotel Collection perks

Many of these are simply benefits that come with any Visa Signature card. But take special note of the mobile phone protection — for just a $25 deductible, you'll receive up to $600 in coverage against theft or damage for your phone (up to $1,200 per 12-month period) when you use your card to pay your monthly cell phone bill. That's extraordinary for a no-annual-fee credit card .

How to earn points

Let's get straight to the point: This card's earning rate is poor. You'll earn just 1 point per dollar spent on all purchases. That's it. You can, however, earn bonus points when you shop through the Wells Fargo's Go Far Earn More Mall .

How to redeem points

Points from this card can be redeemed through the Go Far Rewards portal for:

  • Car rentals
  • Merchandise
  • Online auctions

You'll want to skip all options except airfare redemptions, though. That's because points redeemed for airfare are worth 1.5 cents each, which is 50% more than the others possibilities. Just note that you have to redeem your points using the Wells Fargo Go Far Rewards portal, specifically; you can't book your reservations directly with an airline or through an OTA and then request a statement credit later.

Little-known facts about the Wells Fargo Visa Signature

1. You can receive as much as 1.75 cents per point. If you use your card to spend $50,000 in a year, you receive as much as 1.75 cents per point in value for airfare redemptions.

2. This is one of the rare no-annual-fee Visa Signature cards. As mentioned above, the Visa Signature program comes with a suite of benefits, including various travel protections. But nearly all Visa Signature cards charge annual fees, except this one and a few others.

3. It's also a rare no-annual-fee card with mobile phone protection. There aren't too many cards that offer theft and damage coverage for mobile phones, beyond the basic 60 or 90 days of purchase protection that might cover all new purchases. But this card has no annual fee and cell phone protection (with a $25 deductible) with a maximum benefit limit of $600 per claim and $1,200 per 12-month period. That's more generous than most cell phone coverages on annual-fee-incurring cards!

4. This card charges a "foreign currency conversion fee." Many credit cards still charge a foreign transaction fee for charges processed outside of the U.S. Cards that have these fees even impose them on charges you make at home from a foreign company in some cases. For example, if you purchase a travel reservation from a foreign airline or hotel, you might be charged in U.S. dollars, but since the transaction is processed outside of the U.S., you could still be charged this fee. This is also the case in other countries that use U.S. dollars, such as Ecuador, El Salvador and the British Virgin Islands. But the Wells Fargo Visa Signature card is different in that it has a foreign currency conversion fee of 3%. This means that you should't be charged this fee if your foreign transaction is in U.S. dollars. It's better to have a card with none of these fees, but Wells Fargo is doing something different here.

Related: Best credit cards with no foreign transaction fees

Bottom line

The Wells Fargo Visa Signature card is a simple travel rewards card with serious potential. If you were able to apply while it was still possible, you would have started off with a generous initial rewards offer and 15 months of interest-free financing. But to get really good long-term value from this card, you'll need to use it for airfare redemptions to get 1.5 or even 1.75 cents per point. You'll also want to pair it with the Wells Fargo Propel American Express card to get that card's 3x reward categories.

By itself, airfare rewards worth 1.5% of spending aren't very exciting, even with a strong package of cardholder benefits. But when you're able to combine these two cards and up your return on spending to 4.5% (or even 5.25% if you spend $50,000 or more per year on the Wells Fargo Visa Signature) on many of your purchases, then you could have a winning combination.

With over 4,000 branches and $1.7 trillion in assets, Wells Fargo is the third largest bank in the U.S. Yet Wells Fargo credit cards offerings have long lagged in popularity behind competitors such as Chase and American Express. But, the introduction of the Wells Fargo Autograph Journey℠ Visa® Card * The information for the Wells Fargo Autograph Journey℠ Visa® Card has been collected independently by Blueprint. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer. includes the addition of airline and hotel transfer partners to the Wells Fargo Rewards program, adding appeal for travel rewards enthusiasts. Here’s what you need to know about the Wells Fargo Rewards program.

How to earn Wells Fargo Rewards

Wells Fargo now offers three main cards that earn Wells Fargo Rewards:

  • Wells Fargo Active Cash® Card : The no-annual-fee card earns 2% cash rewards on purchases.
  • Wells Fargo Autograph℠ Card : The no-annual-fee-card earns 3 points per $1 at restaurants, travel, gas stations, transit, popular streaming services and phone plans and 1 point per $1 on other purchases.
  • Wells Fargo Autograph Journey℠ Visa® Card * The information for the Wells Fargo Autograph Journey℠ Visa® Card has been collected independently by Blueprint. The card details on this page have not been reviewed or provided by the card issuer. : For a $95 annual fee, the card earns 5 points per $1 on hotels, 4 points per $1 on airlines, 3 points per $1 on other travel and dining and 1 point per $1 on other purchases.

You can pool the rewards between all three cards, according to a Wells Fargo spokesperson. This makes holding a combination of the Active Cash and one of the Autograph cards appealing as you can use the cards strategically to earn elevated rewards on all of your spending.

How to redeem Wells Fargo Rewards

With the Active Cash and the Autograph cards, points can be redeemed as a credit to your qualifying Wells Fargo credit card, checking account or mortgage. You can also use your rewards to pay for purchases from participating merchants. Other options include redeeming rewards for travel reservations through Wells Fargo or gift cards. Wells Fargo Autograph Journey and Autograph cardholders also will have the option starting April 4, 2024 of transferring rewards to six participating airline and hotel loyalty programs.

What are Wells Fargo Rewards worth?

When redeeming your points for cash back, statement credits, purchases, travel reservations booked through Wells Fargo and gift cards, Wells Fargo points are worth one cent each. When you transfer points to airline and hotel partners, the value will vary based on the partner loyalty program.

Best ways to use Wells Fargo Rewards

Transferring to airline or hotel partners when the program goes live April 4, 2024 may be the best way to redeem your Wells Fargo Rewards points. That’s because it’s possible to get a value of several cents per point or mile, especially when you’re able to redeem your rewards for expensive airline tickets or hotel stays. For example, the Air France-KLM Flying Blue frequent flyer program may offer business class tickets to Europe for 55,000 miles each way. If you’re able to redeem 110,000 miles for a round-trip flight that would normally cost around $5,000, you can receive nearly five cents in value per point transferred.

Another option is the Choice Hotels Choice Privileges program, which can offer extremely valuable redemptions for hotels in places such as Europe or Japan, and for all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean. For example, an award night for a room with one double bed at the Comfort Hotel Bolivar in Rome, Italy in June 2024 is 25,000 points, but the cash price for this property in the heart of the city is $685 per night. This results in a value of roughly 2.7 cents per point redeemed.

Wells Fargo transfer partners

Starting April 4, 2024, the Wells Fargo’s Autograph Journey and Autograph cards have five airline partners and one hotel partner:

  • Choice Privileges®
  • Air France-KLM Flying Blue
  • Avianca LifeMiles
  • British Airways Executive Club
  • Aer Lingus AerClub
  • Iberia Plus

Final verdict

Until recently, Wells Fargo Rewards was a simple program that allowed cardholders to redeem their points for one cent each towards cash back, statement credits, gift cards or travel reservations. But, with the introduction of the Autograph Journey card and the addition of transfer partners as a redemption option — cardholders now have the opportunity to turn their rewards into airline miles and hotel points, potentially raising their value to far more than one cent each.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Wells Fargo Rewards points are worth just one cent each towards statement credits, gift cards and travel reservations booked through Wells Fargo. However, Autograph Journey and Autograph cardmembers are able to transfer their rewards to airline and hotel partners, potentially unlocking redemptions worth at least several cents per point or mile.

Wells Fargo Rewards generally will not expire as long as your account is open and active, but check your card’s fine print to be sure.

If you redeem your points for travel booked through Wells Fargo Rewards, points are worth one cent each towards flights. So a $200 fight will cost 20,000 points. However, Wells Fargo Autograph cardholders can transfer their points to airline partners. The airline miles are redeemed through the airline, and the number of points required will vary based on the flight chosen and the rules of the frequent flyer program.

Yes, you can transfer Wells Fargo points to another person by going to the Wells Fargo Rewards page, logging in and choosing the “Share” option.

How to Get TSA PreCheck for Free

Here’s everything you need to know about PreCheck — plus how to get it for free.

Harrison Pierce is a freelance writer and digital nomad passionate about personal finance and travel. He is traveling full-time with the help of points and miles and enjoys connecting with people on the ground. His work has been published in Travel + Leisure, Condé Nast Traveler, USA Today Blueprint, Matador Network, and other publications.

TSA PreCheck Costs and Requirements

Frequent travelers have their airport routines down to a science. As a full-time digital nomad, I fly tens of thousands of miles each year, so I’ve experimented with many different ways to make flying as seamless as possible. With TSA PreCheck, you can breeze through security and board your plane just minutes after arriving at the airport. Here’s everything you need to know about TSA PreCheck — including how to get it for free.

TSA PreCheck is a popular program offered by the Transportation and Security Administration (TSA). Travelers enrolled in the program enjoy expedited security. You don’t have to take off your shoes, belts, or light jackets or remove electronics and small liquids from your carry-on baggage. According to the TSA, 99 percent of PreCheck passengers will get through security in 10 minutes or less. From personal experience, I’ve gotten through security in less than two minutes. Most often, it’s less than five, but this can vary depending on the airport.

TSA PreCheck is available at more than 200 airports nationwide and with more than 90 different airlines . To enroll, you must complete an application online , visit an enrollment location for fingerprinting, documentation, and payment, and then receive your Known Traveler Number (KTN). Once you have this number, you can add it to your future reservations with airlines, and TSA PreCheck will appear on your boarding pass.

There are new PreCheck enrollment partners to help combat the long wait times in processing applications and finding an in-person appointment. Depending on the provider, new applications will cost between $78 and $85, while renewals cost as low as $70.

U.S. citizens, U.S. lawful permanent residents, and citizens of partner countries enrolled in Global Entry, NEXUS, or SENTRI are eligible to participate in TSA PreCheck, as well as Canadian citizens who are members of NEXUS. You can be disqualified for several reasons, including anything that may arise from a criminal background check conducted as part of your application.

Global Entry is another Trusted Traveler Program that expedites re-entry into the U.S. from abroad. If you are enrolled in Global Entry, you use facial recognition software at Global Entry kiosks before speaking with a customs agent. I’ve had Global Entry for years, and it’s one of my favorite investments. It costs $100 to apply. The application fee and process for getting approved are slightly more strict and take longer, but it is worth the effort. Global Entry includes TSA PreCheck benefits.

Andrew Harrer/Bloomberg via Getty Images

There are dozens of cards that offer a reimbursement for the application fee for TSA PreCheck or Global Entry. If your card offers this benefit, you simply need to use your card when paying for the application fee, and you will be reimbursed within a few weeks as a statement credit on your account.

Be sure to read the terms and conditions of the benefit for your card, as most will only reimburse once every four to five years and might only cover TSA PreCheck, not Global Entry. Below is a list of all the cards that currently offer a statement credit for most or all of the application fee for TSA PreCheck, along with their annual fee.

I used my Capital One Venture Card to enroll in Global Entry in 2019. My renewal is coming up this year, so I’ll likely use my Capital One Venture X to pay the renewal fee . With so many cards offering this statement credit and wait times at airports continuing to increase as we move into summer, it would be foolish to let my membership lapse and not enjoy the many benefits of these programs.

If you have children 12 or under, they may accompany you in the TSA PreCheck lane without needing to be enrolled in the program themselves. Children aged 13 to 17 could join you in the PreCheck lane if the TSA PreCheck indicator appears on their boarding pass. If not, they will need to use the regular security lane. If children 17 or under travel by themselves, they must have their own membership to use the PreCheck lane.

Some loyalty programs, like United MileagePlus, IHG Rewards, and Marriott Bonvoy, will let you use points to cover the application fee for TSA PreCheck. However, this will not be the best valuation you can get from your points, so it would be better to use a credit card.

How Does Allegiant Air's Allways Rewards Program Work?

Allegiant Air (or, more simply, Allegiant) is one of North America's largest ultra-low-cost airlines and has been flying for over 20 years . Allegiant operates a fleet of Airbus A319 and A320s that are set to be joined by the Boeing 737 MAX (although it is not one of the top five largest low-cost carriers ). Despite being a low-cost airline, Allegiant has its own loyalty program known as Allways Rewards. Unlike many other airline loyalty rewards programs, Allways Rewards is refreshingly simple.

How to earn Allways Rewards points

To earn Allways Rewards , passengers must sign up as an Allways Reward member (registration is straightforward as one would expect). Members will then earn 1 point for every $1 spent on Allegiantair.com or SunseekerResorts.com (as well as qualifying purchases charged to their room at Sunseeker Resorts ).

Members also earn 2 points per $1 they spend on Allegiant itineraries that are more than $500 (this does not include the Sunseeker Resorts). Base loyalty points are not earned on the taxes and fees of the airline tickets - although members can use their loyalty points to pay for the taxes and fees. Points can be earned on taxes and fees when members make purchases with the Allegiant credit card.

Allways Rewards points are valued at one cent. This makes calculating how many points a flight will earn easy. If the flight's fare component (after taxes and fees) is $300, 300 points will be earned (valued at $3). If it's $600, 1200 points will be earned (valued at $6). Essentially, the Allways Rewards program enables members to get a 1% to 2% discount on future fares based on passed fares.

Allways rewards visa card.

Allegiant offers the Allways Rewards Visa card to earn even more Allways points. This credit card comes with 15,000 bonus points after members make $1,000 or more on purchases within the first 90 days. 15,000 points is equal to $150. The card comes with a $59 annual fee but can be more than compensated by earning 3 points for every $1 spent on Allegiant purchases. Cardholders also earn 2 points for every $1 spent on qualifying dining purchases and one point on all other purchases. Points never expire on the credit card as long as the card account is open.

There are other perks of having an Allegiant credit card. Enjoy priority check-in, complimentary priority boarding, and a free first drink. One of the most notable benefits is 'Buy One, Get One Free Airfare.' Allegiant credit cardholders can get one free companion airfare if they use the card to book an Allegiant vacation package, which includes airfare with four or more night's accommodation or seven more days of rental car (the flight and the hotel or rental car need to be on the same itinerary). Call Allegiant Member Services to book the trip at (702) 800-2088.

Expiration after inactivity.

Allways Rewards will expire if there is a period of 24 months of inactivity (activity is defined by logging in and booking through the Allways account). Points will also not expire as long as the Allegiant credit card account is open. Note that all points are forfeited if an Allways account is closed. So long as there is activity in the account every 24 months, the points will not expire.

How to redeem Allways Rewards

Members can redeem their points on the Allegiant payment page by purchasing online through the airline's website. They can also be redeemed at the checkout counter at Sunseeker Resorts (the account number is all that's needed). Redeeming 100 Allways Rewards points will take $1 off the price. Sunseeker Resorts is the carrier's new resort, which opened at the end of 2023 in Charlotte County, Florida. Resort accommodation options with Allways Rewards points are still relatively limited.

Read how to spend Avios points with Qatar Airways .

While many airlines require members to have a minimum number of points to start redeeming, Allegiant does not. Any member can redeem their points anytime, even if they have only $1 of points. Points are placed in members' accounts within 72 hours of completion of the itinerary. This means new members can use their points just after three days of flying with Allegiant for the first time.

Points can be redeemed on all flight travel packages when booked through Allegiant - including flight upgrade packages, checked bags, seat selection, etc. That said, they can only be redeemed on itineraries with an Allegiant flight (or while staying at Sunseeker Resort). There are many differences between full-service and low-cost carriers, but as you can see, low-cost carriers can have the most straightforward reward programs.
