  • Dinner on your own in one of the city’s many fabulous restaurants.
  • Pick-up in the morning. Your day will start with a shared small-group tour in the vibrant City Center, a place full of charm, layers of unique history and regional culinary delights.
  • Guided small group tour and tasting at world famous Grande Maison de Champagne Veuve Clicquot (Visit included with 4 glasses of Champagne). The House was founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot that became famous thanks to Madam Barbe Nicole Clicquot Ponsardin. You will learn about this visionary young widow who built an empire and became a legend in her time “la Grande Dame of the Champagne region”. For a while, take a dip into the heart of this House, its heritage, its savoir-faire. And discover its unique chalk-cellars and the making-process of Champagne. (*If for some reason Veuve Clicquot is unavailable or closed for an event, an appropriate substitution will be made.)
  • Next, have a guided small group tour of the Cathedral of Reims. A Unesco World Heritage Site, the 13th-century Notre-Dame de Reims Cathedral is one of Europe’s most important Gothic structures. You will be captivated by the unique stained glasses and the exceptionally rich statuary – over 2,300 statues, among which the famous “Smiling Angel.” It is here that King Clovis was baptized around AD 498, giving birth to the Kingdom of the Franks and starting a long-lasting tradition: all of the Kings of France, except two, were crowned here!
  • Lunch on your own in Reims
  • Then your small group tour will continue when you leave the city and drive through the Grand Cru vineyards on the Mountain of Reims, where the Scenic Route of Champagne winds its way between fields of barley, vineyards, forests and picturesque villages such as Verzy, Verzenay and Mailly. The realm of the Pinot Noir varietal, the Mountain of Reims, is known for its special “terroir” that gives Champagne much of its power and character. We’ll take a tranquil, picturesque pause in such a vineyard to take it all in with our own five senses.
  • Head to a Champagne Grower’s Family Domain: in the heart of the Champagne’s Vineyards, you will be welcomed at a beautiful Champagne Grower’s Family Estate. More than 4000 family winemakers contribute to the prestige of Champagne, keeping the Tradition alive from generation to generation with a common goal: the true expression of Champagne.
  • The lovely afternoon will finish with another tasting of different Champagne wines.
  • Drop off is around 5:30 PM at the Reims Centre Train Station forecourt.
  • Meet this morning at a central meeting location and depart on your full day private tour.
  • Driver along the Scenic Route du Champagne, which meanders among the vineyards and the picturesque villages. The countryside is lined with beautiful Grand Cru villages like Ay, Hautvillers, Bouzy, Le Mesnil, Vernezay, all nested in an ocean of vineyards.
  • Next, enjoy sightseeing along the famous Avenue de Champagne:  Epernay is internationally known as the “Capital of Champagne”. Epernay’s stunning main street appears like an exhibition of opulent mansions housing the most illustrious Maisons de Champagne: Moët & Chandon, Perrier-Jouet, Mercier, etc. Not to mention the 100km of tunnels under the pavement!
  • Founded in 1743 by Claude Möet, within 40 years the house became the most popular international brand in the world. Its history is linked to some famous figures such as The Marquise de Pompadour and Napoleon 1 st . This Champagne has also been present for many important historical events, among which King Edwards VII’s coronation, the Cannes Film Festival, the 120 th anniversary of the Liberty Statue, etc… It is probably the most famous Champagne brand around the world. You tasting will include   2 glasses of Champagne
  • Lunch on your own in Epernay.
  • Next head along the Marne Valley on a journey through the vineyards to learn about another prestigious figure: Dom Pérignon, who finalized the process of making Champagne. He highly contributed to the fame of Champagne and is now buried in the church of the former Benedictine Abbey of Hautvillers.
  • Head to another domaine for a visit and tasting. Learn about the Lemaire family vineyards, an estate that started with just 12 Hectares but now exports all over the world. This family is proud of their ecological credentials and use only marine algae to protect their vines, negating the need for pesticides. The grapes are selected and harvested by hand, with only first press used in production. Vinification uses non malo-lactic fermentation methods to ensure a better quality of Champagne with its own natural acidity. The Champagne has an inherent sweetness allowing for the addition of only a very low dosage of cane sugar.
  • Return to Reims and drop off around 5:30 pm.
  • Dinner on your own and overnight.
  • (Please note: Visits are subject to availability.)
  • Breakfast at the hotel.
  • Enjoy a private cooking class this morning at a local cooking atelier. Your instructor is a chef and pastry chef who worked in major hotels and restaurants in England and Canada before returning to his hometown of Reims. In 2016 he opened his culinary workshop and started teaching his guests and new friends about French gastronomy and oenology during hands-on, friendly cooking classes. Learn about seasonal products, chef’s techniques, and local wines during your class and the lunch that follows.
  • After lunch, visit the boutique of the Maison Fossier, a biscuit-maker since 1756. The Maison Fossier has preserved centuries of tradition, including the Biscuit Rose de Reims, one of the city’s most famous products. Enjoy a tasting of the biscuits.
  • Finally, one last champagne tasting! The Champagne House was created by Pol Auguste in 1887. Passed down from generation to generation, it has kept the name of its creator. Their boutique is a stone’s throw from Place d’Erlon and the Cathedral. Come meet them and taste their Champagnes! Au revoir!
  • Head to Reims central station. Au revoir!

Why You Should Go to Champagne, France—And All the Houses You Should Visit

By Christina Liao

Sacy Champagne France

Tiny bubbles, floral notes, crystal flutes—champagne is often front of mind for joyous, festive occasions; yet somehow Champagne (the region, not the beverage itself) falls to the wayside when travelers plan wine-centric trips in France. Bordeaux and Burgundy tend to get the spotlight—and there’s no reason that they shouldn’t—but there’s something to be said of the famous bubbly’s eponymous territory.

Deserving much more than a day trip from Paris (it’s less than 45 minutes by train from Gare de l’Est), the province is a destination to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace if you truly want to appreciate what it has to offer. Plus, there are more than enough options to keep you busy for a few days. But it’s not just the effervescent tipple that makes the region worth a visit. Its resilience during WWI, paired with its long history of winemaking, is what led parts of Champagne, along with its houses and cellars, to be added to the UNESCO World Heritage list. When you stroll through the chalk crayères that belong to a few of the maisons , you are quite literally walking through a piece of history. During the war, these underground quarries not only acted as a shelter against bombings, but also served as homes, schools, hospitals (markings on the walls denoting such institutions are still visible), and a way to communicate and travel, undetected by the enemy. So not only do you get your fair share of bubbly while in Champagne, but also the chance to visit historic monuments, too.

And despite the price tag often associated with these precious bottles of sparkling wine, many of the prestigious companies offer public visits and start at very reasonable prices. (Tip: Always opt for one that includes a tasting of both a vintage and non-vintage to compare.) However, others are much more exclusive, only available by either appointment or invitation. When faced with such a predicament, you’ll have to pull out all the stops to get your foot into the door. If you’re a regular at a particularly distinguished restaurant or hotel, a recommendation from a representative there ( Four Seasons Hotel George V’s head sommelier, Eric Beaumard , for example) will go a long way.

Learn about the history of some of your favorite brands, what makes champagne, well, champagne, and leave a little rosy-cheeked after a delightful tasting. Here, a guide to the houses you should absolutely visit along with those that you should aspire to finagle your way into.

Maison Ruinart Reims Champagne

Ruinart The first house to be established in Champagne, Maison Ruinart has been around since 1729 and is most recognized for the unique shape of its bottles (and exceptional blanc de blancs). Modeled after those that are depicted in Jean-François de Troy’s 1735 painting Le Déjeuner d'huîtres , it is the oldest representation of champagne, and a replica of it hangs in one of the salons used for tastings. Throughout the property you’ll find additional artwork—the house has worked with a number of artists since 2006 to commission special pieces, including Dustin Yellin and Maarten Baas. Once you head down to the crayères , you’ll find yourself in awe of the labyrinth of chambers, which go down as far as 125 feet. There are even signs of camaraderie in the cellars—you’ll find that over one particular set of aging Ruinart there’s a vial that bears the date of December 9, 2016, and an image of a baby bottle. On this day, the man who finished bottling the wines became the father of twin girls. Talk about a good story. Tours start from 70 euros per adult

PerrierJouët's Maison Belle Epoque in Epernay Champagne

Perrier-Jouët If you’re a fan of Perrier-Jouët (and how could one not be with their elegant Belle Epoque Rosé and very quaffable Belle Epoque Blanc de Blancs), you’ll have to really work your connections to get access to their invite-only estate, which just reopened in July after two years of careful restoration and houses the largest private Art Nouveau collection in Europe. However, what perhaps is most captivating are the contemporary pieces peppered throughout the maison , a stark contrast to the classically French–decorated home. Since 2012, the brand has collaborated with artists from Design Miami/ to create some truly impressive projects. In the entrance hall there’s Mischer’Traxler’s Ephemerā , a kinetic table installation where colorful metal plants and insects sprout in and out of the oak surface based on the observer’s proximity, playing a sort of hide-and-seek, encouraging interaction and piquing curiosity. The adjacent bar features Ritsue Mishima’s All’ombra della luce , where 800 clear disks of Murano glass permeated with bubbles in varying sizes hang at different heights from the ceiling. Underground you’ll also find Simon Heijdens’s Phare No. 1-9 , a light installation of suspended, liquid-filled capsules that create abstract floral shapes on the ground, along with Lost Time by Glithero, where loops of beads dangle over a shallow pool in a dark and narrow corridor, coming alive and reflecting off the water when the accompanying lamps are switched on. This is all, of course, in addition to a cellar that houses vintages dating back to 1825.

BillecartSalmon Ay Champagne estate

Billecart-Salmon Family-owned Billecart-Salmon has been in operation for nearly 200 years, and visits to the house are available by appointment from Monday to Friday morning. Now in its sixth generation, the house is run by François Roland-Billecart, who lives on the property, as does his father. You’ll have the chance to explore their cellar, vineyards, and lush garden while trying three of their champagnes. If you’re looking for a remarkable brut rosé, this is the place to go. Tours start from 30 euros per adult

Veuve Clicquot Hotel du Marc library Reims

Veuve Clicquot Madame Clicquot, who took over the champagne house at the age of 27 after her husband’s untimely death, made major strides in the wine-making world. She created the first recorded vintage bubbly in the region and invented the ridding table, a method of dispelling yeast sediments from the bottles that is still used today. She is also credited as the first to produce a blended rosé (the first recorded rosé to have been sold was by Ruinart in 1764, a little over five decades before Clicquot’s, but it’s believed to have been produced via maceration). As you walk through the brand’s crayères , you’ll learn more about the pioneering woman, peek into their Library, where vintages aged for a minimum of 20 years reside (special tastings can be held there, too), and gawk at a bottle that dates back between 1839 and 1841, which was discovered at a shipwreck in 2010. Experts from the house tasted one of the salvaged bottles and found that the champagne still held its own. As a result, the brand submerged a cage of bubbly at the exact location of the wreck in 2014, which will be resurfaced in 40 years and compared with another set of champagne aged underground at the same depth (roughly 174 meters underwater). While we wait for the results—and hope for the chance to try it ourselves—another ambitious aspiration is access to their invite-only Hôtel du Marc. However, it was open to the public for one weekend in 2013, so maybe we actually have a chance of visiting sometime in the future. Tours start from 25 euros per adult, but opt for the 50 euro visit that includes a tasting of La Grande Dame

Moët Chandon Epernay Champagne France

Moët & Chandon and Dom Pérignon Spanning a little over 17 miles, Moët & Chandon is home to the largest cellars in the region. Here you’ll find bottles of both Moët and Dom Pérignon, although public tours and the subsequent tasting are focused on the former. (If you do want to experience the latter, it is only available via private visits, while access to DP’s standalone estate is invite only. You can, however, visit the church in Hautvillers where Dom Pérignon is buried.) A variety of venues are used for their samplings, but for particularly special events, ask to sip your bubbly in their serene garden—it’s a great way to celebrate any occasion. And across the street you’ll spot three alluring buildings behind magnificent gates—those would be their private spaces used for meetings, receptions, and meals for honorary guests. Tours start from 24 euros per adult

Krug champagne house in Reims

Krug If you’re lucky enough to be invited to the Krug Family House, which recently completed a two-year renovation, you’re in for a real treat. Other than the fact that their blanc de blancs and non-vintage Grand Cuvée are exceptional, the cuisine served at the maison is overseen by Reims-born chef Arnaud Lallement of three-Michelin-starred restaurant L’Assiette Champenoise. They even do musical pairings for an unbelievable sensory experience.

Bollinger Ay Champagne

Bollinger James Bond devotees will know Bollinger well (there was even a limited-edition 2009 cuvée for the release of Spectre ), with high praises sung by 007 for the brand’s sparkling wine in several of the series’ movies. Although exclusive, there are opportunities for admirers to visit the maison in Ay, where you’ll get to walk through their incredible vineyards (Bolly owns not only some of the oldest, but also rare ungrafted vines that have endured the pesky phylloxera insect) and a tasting in Madame Lily Bollinger’s beautiful garden. To reserve a tour, e-mail [email protected]

Charles Heidsieck Pavilion Reims Champagne

Charles Heidsieck Oenophiles often rave about Charles Heidsieck’s Brut Réserve while simultaneously expressing how underrated it is. Appreciators will most certainly want to gain access to their VIP-only estate, especially after the recent refurbishment of their reception venue. An airy and sleek structure, the Pavilion (as they call it) is idyllic for a convivial gathering before a visit to the gardens and crayères , and a great space for a portfolio tasting afterward.

Château de Sacy suite Le Roi Soleil

Where to Stay Just 20 minutes out from the center of Reims is the commune of Sacy. Rolling hills replete with vineyards surround the newly opened Château de Sacy. Formerly known as Villa Maria when it was constructed in 1850, it has now been taken over by the Millésime Collection and transformed into an elegant hotel. Consisting of 12 accommodations (two of which are suites), each one is individually named and uniquely designed. Gingham curtains, seafoam-hued walls, crystal-drop chandeliers, and baldachin beds are just some of the striking features in the charming rooms. The on-site Les Vignes restaurant (which has a terrace that’s perfect for an aperitif) dishes out cuisine that’s dedicated to the terroir, such as a casserole of seafood and gnocchi cooked with champagne and a pâté de foie gras served with a champagne gelée. A must, however, is the pigeon—brought out in a copper pan, it’s perfectly roasted, served with Swiss chard, peas, and chanterelle mushrooms, then lightly dressed with a piquant mustard sauce. And it goes without saying that there’s an extensive list of bubbly to help take your meal to the next level. But what can’t be beat is the feeling that you get at Château de Sacy. When you arrive to the hill it’s perched on, you’re immediately swept off your feet with glee and serenity as you look out onto the verdant landscape and the city beyond it. It’s a place that feels like home, if home were a chic castle in one of the most blissfully mellow destinations in the world.

How to plan a wine-tasting tour in Champagne

Tradition meets innovation in this verdant winemaking region, where hallowed tasting rooms pair well with treehouse bars.

Champagne makes the social world turn. And yet, driving between its meticulously groomed vineyards and cream-coloured towns, this French region, rooted in the chalky hills between Paris and the Ardennes, appears remarkably quaint. Local pride in the Pinot and Chardonnay fields — some thought to date back to the Romans — has made this area one of Europe’s most photogenic destinations, and as growers embrace biodiversity and ban pesticides, greenness is everywhere in every sense.

In the regional hub of Reims, just 45 minutes from Paris by train, bars and bistros spill over into pedestrianised streets and wine gardens serve hundreds of local blends. These days Champagne houses want in on the action, too. In the past few years, tasting rooms and taverns have popped up on some of the region’s most venerated estates, while in Epernay, the magnificent Avenue de Champagne buzzes with a thirsty after-work crowd. Relish it all responsibly (remember — spitting is encouraged) on this route through the heart of the region.

Pick your designated driver and start the day with a drive through the Marne Valley, famed for its vine-clad slopes. At Vincelles, the fields part to reveal a Roman road and this revered Champagne house, which has been producing a range of organic wines since 2013. In good weather the Blin family welcomes oenophiles to their hilltop tasting room to gaze out over the landscape with a glass from the 10,000-bottle cellar.

2. Champagne Telmont

Follow the river to Damery where you’ll find the chic Champagne Telmont compound, run according to sustainable principles by its president Ludovic du Plessis. You can book tours of the cellars here, enjoy drinks at the bar or sample a food and wine pairing menu at the communal table. Look out for the photographs of Ludovic with Leonardo DiCaprio, who’s invested in Telmont’s green initiatives.

3. La Table Kobus

Onward to tiny Épernay, where grand Champagne houses like Perrier-Jouët and Moët et Chandon lord it over the Avenue de Champagne. Stop for lunch at this smart bistro, where you’ll find a menu of terrines and fricassées. Corkage is free on weekdays (or €12/£10 from Friday evening to Sunday), so you can take a bottle of Champagne picked up on your travels. Alternatively, order a €25 (£22) half bottle   from the wine list.

4. Pressoria

Stop at the sleepy town of Aÿ, with its half-timbered cottages. In 2021, the old pressing centre was transformed into a sensory Champagne museum. Here, visitors are invited to experience a virtual wine harvest, explore rooms scented with blossom, ‘press’ their own vintage and watch the fermentation process on IMAX-style screens. The exhibition ends in the tasting room, overlooking vineyards.

5. Perching Bar

Detour through the Montagne de Reims nature park. A 30-minute drive into wild terrain will bring you to a forested path and wobbly suspension bridge — the only way in or out of this treehouse wine bar. With hanging armchairs and Champagne buckets strung from the ceiling, it’s the perfect spot to watch the sun go down with a glass. Ask for a plate of biscuits roses de Reims — a pink biscuit traditionally served with Champagne.

6. Le Réfectoire Vranken-Pommery

Finish at the Vranken-Pommery estate, a collection of gothic towers on the road to Reims. You can tour its ancient Champagne cellars then stay for dinner in the dining room in the old refectory, which stays open late. Try the risotto with leek fondue with a glass of one of Pommery’s more affordable Bruts (€15/£13). Finish with profiteroles.

Luxury Wine Tours & Tastings In Champagne

For lovers of all things bubbly taking a Champagne tour in France is never enough. The birthplace of French sparkling wines has so much to offer that a single tour can’t possibly suffice to cover all of its wonderful sights.

The Champagne region is home to splendid vineyards, the Maisons (“houses”) of the most famous champagnes in the world, hundreds of thousands of kilometers of underground cellars, picturesque villages, unique forests and many outstanding architectural gems. How can you possibly combine them all into one Champagne tour?  A UNESCO World Heritage site, this French wine region is only an hour and a half away from Paris , which makes it the perfect destination for a day trip. The Champagne Wine Route covers most of the must-see sights and you can explore it no matter what means of transportation you prefer: for those driving, there is 600 km of sign-posted roads; for those with less than four wheels, there are 450 km of walking and cycling tracks and 60 circuits through the vineyards and around the large lakes in the area.

« Reverse » Champagne tour: start with the vines

One of the great things about visiting Champagne is that you get to discover some of the production secrets of this remarkable wine right in the heart of its production zone. Sometimes it is easy to forget that this celebrated sparkling wine has humble origins in rural northeastern France: the magic begins right there, in the vineyards where the grapes come from. Sure, everyone dreams of visiting the grand Maisons on the Avenue de Champagne in Epernay but why not do a “reverse” itinerary and start your Champagne tour by spending a morning among the vines, talking to the expert vignerons (“winemakers”) and learning their craft? They will be more than happy to show you around their cellars and will guide you through an excellent champagne tasting, in the exact spot where they blend grapes to create the most celebrated drink in the world. Since they work the vines daily, they are usually around and are extremely accommodating regarding visit times and frequencies. The best part of paying them a visit is that you can always buy directly from them – so after having tasted their wines, you can choose your favorite one and take some bottles home as souvenirs of your stay in Champagne.

Champagne tours in Reims

After a morning enjoying the bucolic landscape and seeing where it all begins, head to one of the two main cities in the region for a change of pace. Champagne tours in Reims include much more than sparkling wine: for those architecturally inclined, you can start your visit with the 13th century Gothic Cathedral of Notre-Dame-where most French kings were crowned and anointed- and attempt to locate the Smiling Angel sculpture, possibly its most recognized feature. Follow up by going on an underground expedition to see where Champagne bottles are aged: the caves and tunnels that form the maze under the city of Reims are carved from chalk; some of the passages date back to Roman times. You can also take part in one of the food and Champagne tours in Reims: finish off your day on a sweet note and try the delicious biscuit rose de Reims , a traditional pink biscuit that is usually dipped in Champagne or red wine.

The ultimate Champagne tour: Epernay and the Avenue de Champagne

Known as the Champagne Capital of the World, Epernay is a staple in every Champagne tour. It is home to world-class Maisons and trading houses and the splendid Avenue de Champagne, one of France’s 100 Sites Remarquables du Goût (“100 Remarkable Sites of Taste”, a list of emblematic places and products that are representative of the French terroir and heritage). Much like in Reims, in Epernay there are over 100 kilometers of underground galleries which contain millions of bottles of aging Champagne; they can be visited every day as part of the Champagne tour of your choice. With numerous UNESCO heritage sites, countless top-notch French Champagne Maisons and plenty of culture and history itineraries on offer, Champagne surely has an impressive array of proposals for visitors planning to come to the region. How can you possibly combine them all into one Champagne tour? we asked before... Simply contact a local travel expert : they are the ultimate insiders and can help you plan the Champagne trip of a lifetime! Otherwise, create a customized Champagne tour by yourself: do some research beforehand to know which Maisons offer tours and will be open during your trip and book in advance to avoid disappointing surprises on the day of your visit. “By the end of our day with Michele, it was like hanging out with an old friend. He was so fun and so kind and incredibly knowledgeable. We had great conversations and learned so much. Had a great seafood lunch at a spot with a very local feel, and he provided an experience that spanned a large champagne house, smaller one, and a very small up and coming one where we could taste the individual wines out of the barrels. Such a cool experience! Couldn’t be more grateful for Michele!” Lauren S ( see more reviews )

Your guide will be a winery owner himself, so he knows exactly where to take you to show you the best of Champagne. You’ll get to taste champagne from several producers before sitting down for a tasty local meal in a traditional restaurant.

List of Champagne Tours in France

List of Champagne Tours in France featured photo

France seems to have it all—the renowned food, high-end couture, and breathtaking landscapes that entice visitors. But nestled amidst its scenic countryside is a region with a sparkling secret: Champagne.

With prestigious Maisons de Champagne such as Dom Pérignon and Ruinart and sprawling vineyards that stretch as far as your eyes can see, it’s a paradise for wine lovers. There is a lot to see and learn, so I definitely recommend a guided tour of the Champagne region especially if you’re visiting for the first time.

In this post, I’ve put together a list of champagne tours in France so you can plan your next champagne trip. This post covers some of the big champagne houses where it’s usually easier to schedule visits especially if you plan ahead. But we also cover first a few guided tours that will take you around to multiple champagne destinations without you needing to drive.

Guided Champagne Tours that Visit Multiple Wineries

If you want a guide that will take you around to multiple wineries on a small group tour, check out some of my top recommendations below.

Reims Afternoon Tour of Epernay Region & Family Growers

I am a big fan of smaller grower champagne producers, many of which are family owned. Many of these smaller producers aren’t set up to manage tastings in English, especially at the last minute. So if you aren’t set on visiting a particular champagne house, joining a tour with a group like this can drastically simplify your trip organization.

Champagne Day Trip from Paris with 6 Tastings + Reims Cathedral

One really convenient thing about Champagne unlike most other French wine regions is how close it is to Paris. If you don’t want to deal with navigating the train or a rental car on your own, you can join a tour group like this one and still get the chance to see and taste wine from multiple champagne houses.

Popular Champagne House Destinations for Winery Tours in Champagne France

Champagne Pommery in Reims

To start it off, visit Champagne Pommery in Reims. Visiting Champagne House is truly a unique place where you can explore the stunning and spectacular cellars. But beyond that, exploring the vicinity gives you a premium art exhibit experience. Think of being mesmerized by Art Nouveau and Art Deco.

Things To Do:

Explore 18 kilometers of underground cellars. Gallo-Roman crayères are chalky pits interconnected with galleries. The crayères were carved more than 2,000 years ago. Walking into the cellars means learning the history behind the immense pits.

Visit the Villa Demoiselle. It’s a great way to appreciate Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles manifested in the Champagne House’s architecture, cabinetry, and decor. Visiting the Villa Demoiselle also allows you to discover different arts and crafts like stained glass windows as well as murals by French artisans.

Join a private Champagne tasting workshop. Pommery offers a Master Class that will teach you the secrets to making their Champagnes. You will experience the great cuvées of Maison Pommery with a sommelier: Pommery Apanage Brut, Pommery Grand Cru Royal Vintage, and Cuvée Louise Vintage.

Champagne Bollinger

tour enogastronomico champagne

Champagne Bollinger offers some of the best tours in Champagne France. What makes this Champagne House stand out is its magnificent façade in Aÿ. It is simply beautiful and comes with two staircases that serve as a division between the winery and the cellars.

But Bollinger is more than meets the eye. The Champagne House will give you unique experiences once you explore their cellars.

Wine tasting. Champagne Bollinger offers a unique wine-tasting experience featuring 5 different Champagnes. The friendly Champagne tour guides will walk you through Bollinger’s special and unique methods of wine-making.

Discover the cellars. When you go into the cellars, you’ll have to go through 6 kilometers of passageways but it’s worth it. In this section, there are 11 million bottles of Champagne being stored.

But what makes many visitors so fascinated about the cellars is that there are additional 750,000 magnums of reserve wine stored by the village of origin as well as vintage by vintage.

Fun fact: Those were wine bottles from 1830 that the Bollinger family had no idea were in the “hidden room” until 2010. An intern was tasked to clean up the cellars only to discover a stock of antique bottles concealed behind a wall of empty bottles.

Champagne Bollinger rarely opens their doors for visitation. You better book a month in advance, though. To check availability and rates, visit their website .

Champagne Le Gallais

Champagne Le Gallais

Champagne Le Gallais is a wine lover’s dream. Their La Terrasse Des Abbaye s (terrace) will give you a 180-degree view over the Champagne vineyards and the Château de Boursault and overlooks the Marne Valley. Most of the activities include Champagne tasting.

Their guided Champagne tours are perfect for workshops, team building, and even if you just want to explore around.

Indulge in wine tasting. You can enjoy three Champagnes while enjoying the panoramic view of the Marne Valley’s vineyard. This is a great way to really appreciate the lush in the Champagne region.

Have a look at the facilities. The guided tour will show you around the Champagne House’s facilities, including their modern pressing technique, tank room, and cellars. Included in the tour are three Champagne tastings.

Join a private masterclass. Do you want to be a Chef de Cave for a day? You can take part in their master class, which covers an introduction to winemaking as well as the secrets of their viticulture.

Plus, you can visit the Clos du Château de Boursault and taste the wine at various stages of production. This tour also gives you a tasting of three Champagnes.

Champagne Le Gallais’ master class reservation, however, is subject to validation. To check availability and rates, visit their website .

Billecart Salmon

Billecart Salmon

Located in the town of Mareuil-sur-Aÿ, Champagne Billecart-Salmon was born out of a wedded couple and has survived 7 generations that share the same passion for enology. One of the highlights of the family-owned Champagne House is its French-style garden and a 100-year-old horse chestnut tree.

From exploring the vineyards and cellars to tasting their finest wines, Billecart -Salmon is one of the best venues for Champagne tours in Champagne France.

Explore Clos Saint Hilaire. This is the cuvée de prestige and one of Billecart-Salmon’s most popular plots. Most of the grape varietals grown here are vinified to make their most exclusive cuvées.

Tour the estate. You can start by visiting their cellars and exploring their Champagnes which are fermented in oak barrels and steel tanks. In cellars, you’ll also get to see the Le Clos Saint-Hilaire being fermented in a center-stage position.

Explore the chalky tunnels. For many who have visited Billecart-Salmon, the most exciting part of the tour is the chalk tunnels. The tunnels were built in the 17th century, which adds a sense of history to the overall experience.

You might feel a somewhat somber ambiance as you walk through the tunnels since it is dimly lit and chilly. But it is exactly this unique atmosphere that makes it fascinating.

Wine tasting. You can’t end the tour without tasting Billecart-Salmon Champagne. The family has a summer house where you can taste their creations. You can start with lighter wines and build up to heavier wines that stay on the palate. During wine tasting, you’ll also get to learn about the different grape varieties they use.

That said, not everyone is lucky enough to book a tour with Billecart-Salmon. Champagne tours are available upon request and you may need to book it 6 months ahead, so good luck!

Best Day Tours in Champagne France

Canard-duchêne.

Canard-Duchêne

Canard-Duchêne lies in the heart of the Reims Mountain vineyard. Visiting the Champagne House and discovering their wines’ distinct characteristics are a great retreat if you opt for a Champagne day tour.

A true embodiment of oenotourism, one of the best things (at least, in my book) about paying a visit to the Champagne House of Canard-Duchêne is the full-life yoga classes offered. But there is so much more to enjoy beyond that.

Explore the estate by electric bike. This is a good way to appreciate nature and its blessings. Go on an adventure with an electric bike and love on the lush of Ludes. You’ll be able to witness the beauty of the first Cru village situated in the heart of the grapevines on the Reims Mountain hillsides.

Following the bike ride, you will get served with 2 flutes of Champagne. After that, a tour guide will walk you through the cellars to learn about their terroir and the iconic Pinot Noir grape variety. Included in the tour is also a guide on the secrets of crafting their cuvées.

Enjoy aperitif boards. If you’re going on a group tour, this would be perfect. The boars are ensembled with delicious, sweet, and salty delights that pair well with your bubbly of choice.

It’s sort of like a picnic, but with prized wines with friends under the canopy of trees of the Domaine while the sun and a light breeze kiss your face.

Recharge. Canard-Duchêne offers yoga classes that help you reconnect with nature. It’s done in their magnificent centenary park, in a beautiful panorama between vines and forests. After the calming moment, you can enjoy the taste of their BIO P181 cuvée.

Discover more. Like different flower species and how they relate to the floral notes or bouquets or aromas of wines. It’s a rare opportunity in winery exploration in the Champagne region but you will learn a lot. You’ll discover the different varieties of edible flowers.

Currently, the Champagne House of Canard-Duchên is offering these summer activities by slot. To check availability and reserve a Champagne day tour, visit their website .

Veuve Clicquot

Veuve Clicquot in France

When it comes to luxury wines, Veuve Clicquot is one of the first Champagnes that comes to mind. It should also be on top of your list of Champagne tours in France.

Visiting the family estate is a unique experience. The Champagne House offers different tours from learning about the different winemaking methods to visiting their Unesco World Heritage-listed cellars to having a gastronomic picnic, and more.

Visit Maison Veuve Clicquot’s historic cellars . This is a great way to learn about the Champagne House’s 250 years of history. Harness your creativity and visit the Les Crayères, which are Unesco World Heritage-listed cellars.

During this tour, you will also learn about the unique French know-how of making Veuve Cliquot’s Brut Yellow Label Champagne. The wine is made from a special blend of reserve wines and represents the solaire personality through its iconic yellow label.

Discover the art behind the blended Rosé Champagne. Just like the Brut Yellow Label Champagne, you can also learn about the unique savoir-faire behind Veuve Clicquot’s Rosé Champagne. This wine offers a burst of floral aromas that the most discerning wine enthusiasts love.

Included in the tour is a visit to Les Crayères and wine tasting. You can even request a charcuterie board to pair your wine.

Learn about the story of Madame Clicquot. Madame Clicquot was a 27-year-old woman who took over the House after her husband died in 1805 and went on to create the first vintage champagne in 1810. She also pioneered the riddling table and created Veuve Clicquot’s first blended Rosé Champagne.

(I’m not going to turn this into a spoiler alert, so just pay a visit if you can!)

On this tour, you can visit the Crayères and have a taste of their iconic Brut Yellow Label cuvée in Magnum and prestige cuvée La Grande Dame.

Take on a picnic at Parc du Manoir de Verzy. Seems like taking a picnic with an overlooking view only happens in movies sometimes. Well, the Maison Veuve Clicquot offers a picnic “rosé together” where you can savor a delicious gourmet meal and wine pairings on the lovely grounds of Parc du Manoir de Verzy.

To check their rates and availability, visit their website .

La Maison Mumm

La Maison Mumm

The Champagne House of G.H. Mumm lies in the beautiful city of Reims. If you’re staying in a convenient location and want to take a day Champagne tour in France, G.H. Mumm is easily accessible. The House offers unforgettable experiences that make visitors keep coming back.

Spend time in the G.H. Mumm’s cellars. There is so much history and tradition to learn here. In the underground chalky caves, you will learn everything about the house’s winemaking techniques and centuries-old artifacts and history through their museum exhibit.

Visit the Champagne tasting room and enjoy your choice of cuvée. If you book the Grand Cru Experience, you can have two tastings of their RSRV cuvées.

Visit the Foujita Chapel. This chapel was built in the 1960s and designed by Tsuguharu Foujita, a painter from Japan. He was also the designer of Mumm’s iconic Brut Rosé cap. Because of this, René Lalou, who ran Maison G.H. Mumm at the time, rewarded him with a land plot near the house Foujita’s chapel.

The chapel visit includes a tasting of the reserve Rosé Foujita cuvée, which is exclusively offered in French or in Japanese.

Private Day Champagne Tour in France

Dom pérignon.

Dom Pérignon

A true pioneer in winemaking, Dom Pérignon, a Benedictine monk and cellar master, was the man behind the sparkling wines loved by Napoleon Bonaparte and Winston Churchill. In fact, he is credited as the inventor of the effervescent wine.

Maison Dom Pérignon is a spectacular house in the Hautvillers near Éperney. It is one of the most prestigious and well-celebrated Champagne houses in the Champagne region, so it is something you may want to include in your Champagne Day tour if you plan to visit France soon.

Get your first stop at the Abbey of Abbatiale. This is where Dom Pierre Pérignon is buried. Visiting his final resting place is a great way to pay tribute and learn about the man’s story and the brand’s rich history.

Take on a tour through Dom Pérignon’s cellars. You may explore Napoleon’s cellar, which is the cellar master’s dedicated locker. During this tour, you’ll discover more about the history of the creation of the Maison’s fine wines. You can learn about the aging process of the bottles, how vintages are made, and a lot more.

Visit the garden courtyard. Taking a stroll on their garden courtyards includes tasting some of their finest wines.

Visit the cave and cellars. What makes this tour amazing is that as you go down the historic cave and cellars, you’ll be greeted with gorgeous stained glasses. In the cellars, you’ll find thousands of dusty bottles, arranged in row after row of shelves.

You’ll also see a sign of dedication by Napoleon, who was a huge Dom Pérignon Champagne fan. And did you know that the cellar was used during World War I? That is one of the fascinating facts you can learn when you visit the cellars.

Maison Dom Pérignon is currently not open for public visits, but you can book a private tour with third-party sites.

Moët & Chandon

Moët & Chandon

Moët & Chandon is basically an empire that owns several luxury goods brands including Champagne Dom Pérignon. Nestled in Épernay, the Champagne House boasts a rich history that is worth learning about.

Besides their luxurious wines, there are several ways to explore this magnificent Maison. From walking through their cellars and terroirs to Champagne tastings, a private tour of the Maison Moët & Chandon is a great way to spend quality time in Champagne France.

Have a taste of their Moët Imperial and Moët Vintage Champagnes. Explore the cellars and taste Moët & Chandon’s signature wines. On this tour, you’ll discover how to make those champagnes. You should be able to tell the distinctions between the two wines.

Experience the imperial moment. This tour will walk you through the largest Champagne cellar guided by the Maison Ambassador. During the guided tour, you will learn about two facets of the Moët & Chandon style: white and rosé. This means you’ll also get to taste their Moët Imperial and Rosé Imperial champagnes.

Taste their “Grand Vintage” champagnes. Such Moët & Chandon’s wine classification represents one exceptional year. On this tour, you’ll be taken to a private tasting lounge and taste the Maison ”Grand Vintage” Champagnes blanc and rosé.

Discover the secrets of à la Volée disgorgement. Taking on this cellar tour is a great way to experience the Maison hospitality. You get to see cellarman’s spectacular exhibition of an ancestral champagne savoir-faire disgorgement, à la Volée.

You can also enjoy two vintage cuvées that have been aging in the cellar for 14 years. You will also be treated to a third Grand Vintage tasting.

Take a stroll through the vineyards. Drive through Champagne vineyards with breathtaking views. You can then visit the private area of Fort Chabrol to immerse yourself in the region’s biodiversity. Then, enjoy a glass of Grand Vintage, Grand Vintage Rosé. Driving through the champagne countryside (before drinking, not after!) is one of my favorite things to do because the vineyards are so beautiful.

Walk the Avenue de Champagne in Epernay. You can take your own self-guided tour by spending a day exploring the Avenue de Champagne. On this street, multiple champagne houses are located close to each other and you can walk between them to do tastings. Just remember to check about scheduling the tastings in advance in case they are busy.

To check the rates and availability of their private tours, visit their website .

How Many Days Do You Need in Champagne France?

It depends on how many wineries you want to visit and the time you want to spend exploring the Champagne region. But you can plan 2 to 3 days for a wine-focused tour. This number of days should be enough to visit the picturesque vineyards and even visit other towns and get to know the locals.

What Is the Most Famous Champagne House?

Moët & Chandon is the most famous Champagne House in the world. It’s the co-owner of Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton or LVMH, which sells luxury goods, and also the owner of Dom Perignon. Moët was founded in 1743 and one of its best-selling wines was Brut Imperial, which was introduced to the market in the 1980s.

Is the Champagne Region of France Worth Visiting?

Anyone that has visited the Champagne region would highly recommend exploring the vineyards and cellars. It’s a lush region and full of history, which makes it a wine lover’s dream. You can always take a side tour when you are in Paris.

What Is the Best Season To Visit Champagne?

Summer is the perfect time to explore this region. It’s the best time to stroll through the vineyards, however, it can be crowded during this season. If you want to avoid the crowd, visit around springtime. This time brings mild temperatures and you can explore the blooming vineyards.

You can also visit during the harvest season around August and September to see grapes being picked. If you visit the region during this time period, you get to see the fruit harvest and the starting point of Champagne production. The vineyards also change to stunning gold and crimson shades, creating a picturesque setting.

Final Thoughts

Exploring France’s Champagne region will leave you with fond memories and a deeper love and appreciation for the art of winemaking. So, pack your stuff, book that flight, and take a tour of one of the best Champagne Houses on our list.

If you have more questions about the tours, we’ve added links to their website or you can reach out to us and we’ll be happy to help you.

Champagne tasting + food pairing on the Avenue de Champagne, Epernay

Champagne De Venoge invites you to discover their beautiful Champagnes on the prestigious Avenue de Champagne in Epernay. An interesting and long history, established in 1837 by Mr. Henri-Marc de Venoge, origin of Switzerland. Champagne De Venoge was the first to launch a Blanc de Noirs (white Champagne made from black grapes).

Excellent Champagne tasting and food pairing on the Avenue de Champagne in Epernay.

The Cordon Bleu symbol has been the House' trademark since 1851, it represents the river Venoge in Switzerland which flows into the Canton de Vaud and the family was named after this river. The Cordon Bleu  also represents the l’Ordre du Saint-Esprit, a famous order of French knights.

Talented oenologists take care of high standards, in order to create exceptional Champagnes: grapes from the best vineyards, a long ageing period, use of the first press only, low sugar dosage.

Champagne Devenoge produces symbolic Vintages in unique bottles, such as the Louis XV or the Princes Champagne. It also has one of the largest vinothèques of the Champagne region.

Screen Rant

Who & what is taylor swift's "champagne problems" about lyrics & meaning explained.

One of the songs that Taylor Swift performs during The Eras Tour is "champagne problems," and many wonder about the inspiration behind the lyrics.

  • "Champagne problems" is a highlight of Taylor Swift's record-breaker Eras Tour film, with deep lyrics about a failed marriage proposal.
  • The song is a heart-wrenching fictional story, not based on Taylor Swift's real-life relationship with Joe Alwyn, despite their collaboration.
  • Swift finds joy in performing sad songs like "champagne problems," connecting with fans through emotional music experiences.

One of the several songs that Taylor Swift sings during Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) is "champagne problems" from evermore , which contains complex lyrics that seemingly have a deeper meaning. The concert film, directed by Sam Wrench and produced by Swift, premiered in theaters in October 2023 and was a massive triumph. Over the course of its theatrical run, Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour became the highest-grossing concert movie of all time after earning over $260 million at the box office, surpassing Justin Bieber: Never Say Never (which grossed $99 million) with ease.

Swift's recording-breaking concert tour, the Eras Tour, features the pop star taking her fans on a journey through nine of her "eras," aka nine of her ten studio albums, and one surprise song acoustic set. Although two songs are still missing from Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) on Disney+, the streaming release of the hit film includes the majority of Swift's 44-song setlist, satisfying many fans after some tracks were left off the theatrical version. Thankfully, one of the most important songs from evermore — "champagne problems" — is still one of the movie's highlights.

Champagne Problems Is About A Longtime College Romance & Failed Marriage Proposal

Taylor Swift released "champagne problems" as the second track of 2020's evermore — the third album Swift officially owned . During a typical Eras Tour show, the pop star performs "champagne problems" on a moss-covered piano following "'tis the damn season," "willow," and "marjorie" while she is in the evermore act of the concert (although Disney+ omitted "'tis the damn season" from Taylor Swift: The Era's Tour (Taylor's Version) ).

Swift picked the track for her setlist because "champagne problems" is one of the most popular songs from her ninth studio album, partly because of its heart-wrenching lyrics and powerful bridge that fans get to scream out at the Eras Tour. Some of the first chorus' lyrics include:

Your mom's ring in your pocket My picture in your wallet Your heart was glass, I dropped it Champagne problems

The tear-inducing number chronicles a doomed college romance that ends with a rejected marriage proposal. The couple that "champagne problems" is about has, assumingly, been together for a long time, but when the man proposes to the woman, she turns him down, leaving everyone speechless. The woman takes responsibility for the heartbreak and her explanation for her refusal can be explained in the bridge:

Sometimes you just don't know the answer 'Til someone's on their knees and asks you

The couple breaks up after she rejects his proposal, and the woman promises the man that he will find the right person for him (and that it's not her) in "champagne problems." However, while the evermore track describes the man's heartbreak, it also depicts the woman's pain and grief as she explains how her own personal troubles got in the way of her saying yes to her lover. She describes them as "champagne problems," a saying for when someone encounters an issue that is minuscule in comparison to more significant worries for less privileged people in the world.

Champagne Problems Is Fictional (& Not About Taylor Swift & Joe Alwyn)

Even though Taylor Swift has a way of making all the lyrics in her songs seem personal and real, the story in "champagne problems" on evermore is fictional. While the lyrics in songs like "All Too Well (10 Minute Version) (Taylor's Version)" are inspired by Swift's breakups in real life, the evermore track is not based in reality. Swift wrote the song with Joe Alwyn (who is credited under the pseudonym William Bowery on the track listing) while they were still dating, but the lyrics are not about their relationship.

Swift's folklore and evermore , which the singer-songwriter describes as "sister records," allowed her to write about fictional tales, while also fitting in some lyrics pertaining to her personal life, of course. Inside evermore 's album booklet, Swift's prologue reveals that she "loved the escapism [she] found in these imaginary/not imaginary tales." The pop star also describes "champagne records" as:

"The one where longtime college sweethearts had very different plans for the same night, one to end it and one who brought a ring."

So, it's safe to say that Swift's "champagne problems" features a story about a doomed romance that she and Alwyn concocted in their minds. Perhaps the evermore song was a sign of things to come for Swift and Alwyn's relationship, as they broke up in early 2023, a couple of years following the album's release. For all intents and purposes, though, "champagne problems" is a tragic but fictional love story.

What Is Taylor Swift's Next Album & When Does It Release?

Champagne problems is (probably) not about gilmore girls' rory & logan.

One of the more popular fan theories surrounding the meaning behind "champagne problems" on evermore ( Taylor Swift's ninth released album ) is that it revolves around Rory Gilmore and Logan Huntzberger's love story in the popular comedy-drama television series Gilmore Girls . The relationship between the two fictional characters played out in a similar fashion to the people depicted in Swift's sentimental ballad.

The beauty of Swift's music is that she can somehow make those who listen to her songs relate to the lyrics, despite how specific they might be or whether they have gone through what the song is describing.

Rory and Logan met and fell in love throughout Gilmore Girls seasons 5 and 6. However, during the penultimate episode of Gilmore Girls , he proposes to her, and she rejects him. Several years later, Rory and Logan resumed their romance (while cheating on their significant others) in the Netflix revival Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life . But fans apply the lyrics of "champagne problems" to the college years of the relationship. Nevertheless, Swift has never confirmed that the evermore track is about Rory and Logan nor is there any strong evidence to prove so.

Who Taylor Swift's "Betty" Song Is About & How It Connects To Ryan Reynolds

What taylor swift has said about champagne problems.

Given its popularity among her fanbase, Taylor Swift chose "champagne problems" as one of the songs she performs during Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) on Disney+. Years before the record-breaking worldwide concert tour, though, Swift spoke about the process of writing "champagne problems" for evermore and the meaning behind the lyrics with Zane Lowe for Apple Music . A few days following evermore 's debut, the pop star explained:

"Joe [Alwyn] and I really love sad songs. We've always bonded over music ... 'champagne problems' was one of my favorite bridges to write ... I'm so excited to one day be in front of a crowd when they all sing, 'She would have made such a lovely bride, what a shame she's f**ked in the head.' I know it's so sad, but it's those songs like 'All Too Well,' performing the song 'All Too Well' is one of the most joyful experiences I ever go through when I perform live. So, when there's a song like 'champagne problems,' where you know it's so sad, you know that, but I love a sad song."

Swift believes that performing "champagne problems" is cathartic, as it's a heartbreaking song, but singing along with a stadium full of thousands of fans during the Eras Tour is somewhat comforting. Of course, it probably helps that the lyrics seemingly do not pertain to Swift's personal life. However, the beauty of Swift's music is that she can somehow make those who listen to her songs relate to the lyrics, despite how specific they might be or whether they have gone through what the song is describing. As a result, "champagne problems" is one of Taylor Swift 's best (yet devastating) songs .

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour (Taylor's Version) began streaming on Disney+ on March 14, 2024.

Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is a film rendition of the colossal worldwide event that sees the legendary pop star hit the stage in a specially curated film event.
