Best things to do and see in Warsaw
Warsaw is considered the most important city in Poland . It is the capital of the country since 1596 (previously it was Krakow) and has a cultural and historical background very difficult to match. In 1939, before the Nazi holocaust, there were 1,300,000 settled Jews in the city, almost 30% of the population of the capital ... After 6 years of indescribable horrors, that same population was reduced to one third and more than 90 % of the city was reduced to rubble. Since then, the reconstruction of the city has been rehabilitating the most emblematic and essential areas, combining the before and after to make history clear. In Warsaw there are a large number of guided tours through the different neighborhoods and areas of the town. In fact, there are tours that focus on making routes through the most emblematic places that allow you to travel the city in 2-3 hours. You can also find more specific routes to visit the Palace of Culture and Science, Plac Zamkowy (in Stare Miasto), the Royal Castle, the little mermaid in Rynek Starego Miasta, the Barbakan, the Nowe Miasto, the Jewish ghetto, the Łazienki Park , the Wilanów Palace, the Saint John Cathedral or the Prague district. The advantage of the local guides is that they can tell you things not so well known in the city as well as recommend more exclusive places. It can help you to know better how are the free walking tours in Warsaw the opinions and ratings of travelers who have already done a tour in this city. In addition, other interesting cities to visit from Poland are Poznan and Wroclaw.

This free walking tour of Warsaw is the ideal way to begin to discover the capital of Poland . During this tour, you'll see the Royal Castle, the Presidential Palace, the famous Market Square and much more!
At the scheduled time, we'll meet at the Copernicus Monument at the selected time and start a free tour around the historical centre of Warsaw. First, we'll visit the residence of the former kings of Poland.
Then we'll stroll through the market square looking at the colourful houses of Warsaw's Old Town . This part of the city had to be rebuilt after the Second World War due to the destruction caused by the Nazis.
During the tour, we'll discover the history of Warsaw and the main personalities who influenced its development, such as King Sigismund III. This monarch moved the national capital from Krakow in the 16th century.
The guide will take you to admire the imposing Warsaw Barbican and the medieval city walls . The visit to the historical centre will allow us to meet some of the most famous Polish personalities while strolling through the streets where Marie Curie or Frédéric Chopin were born.
The free tour ends with a return to the starting point after 2 hours and 30 minutes of sightseeing.
It isn't possible to take the free tour if you're a group of more than 6 people, even if the bookings were made separately. In this case, we recommend booking a private tour.

Jewish Warsaw
Before the Second World War, Warsaw was the second-largest Jewish city in the world. The only place with a larger Jewish community was… New York!
For centuries, Jews played an active role in the city’s life during good times and bad. In the 19th century, Jews joined other Varsovians in their struggles against occupying powers and participated in Polish uprisings. During the Interwar Period, Jewish Warsaw flourished. Hundreds of artists, actors, writers, and journalists called the city home. Its cultural life was incomparable to any other time and place in history.
Learning about the pre-war diversity and richness of Jewish Warsaw helps us understand the scale of the destruction that took place during the Holocaust. But, alongside stories of persecution and death, there are stories of the resilience and unimaginable bravery of those who fought without hope.
The wounds and scars of the Second World War and Holocaust will never heal. But the story of Jewish Warsaw is not only the story of the past, but also the story of today: the young, diverse and energetic Jewish community that optimistically looks to the future.
To discover all of this, just come and join us and be ready for an emotional journey through history!
During this 2,5 hour tour you will see:
- Grzybowski Square and Próżna Street – one of very few areas in Warsaw that survived the destruction of the Warsaw ghetto
- Nożyk Synagogue – the only surviving pre-war Warsaw synagogue
- Waliców street – once the ghetto border
- Chłodna Street – monument commemorating the footbridge once connecting parts of the Warsaw ghetto
- the courts on former Leszno street – the point of contact between the ghetto and the so-called Aryan side, allowing meetings of friends and families, smuggling and escapes
- Polin Museum of the History of Polish Jews and the 1948 Monument to the Ghetto Heroes
- and much more!
The last stop is near the POLIN Museum.
Great guide
Lukasz was great! The tour was long and informative. He was easy to understand, enjoyable, and did a great job painting a picture of what Jewish life was like in the Ghetto.
Amazing tour
Pedro was our guide and he was amazing. Fully prepared with images, information and maps that helped visualize and understand better what happened during the war. It was basically a history lesson that was more than we expected. Thank you very much Pedro!
We 100% recommend it
Great History Lesson
This 2 1/2 hour tour was one of the best tours we took in Warsaw. Our guide Andrzej was extremely knowledgeable, gave us detailed information and had a great sense of humor. His English was excellent and he was very easy to hear and understand. The tour started by All Saints Church and took in the Jewish Synagogue and the Jewish quarter before ending near the Jewish museum.
We loved the tour and would recommend him to everybody with interest in the history of Warsaw and/or the WW2.
Nothing to show
While the history of Jews in Warsaw is huge, there is almost nothing to show in the tour.
There is a long-long walk in a modern Warsaw, with something lime 2-3 sites to see. Just normal streets. The ghetto was destroyed during the war, so nothing left.
You will not learn anything from this walk.
Even the few ruins left are not really shown during the tour. Not recommended.
This tour is also available as a Private Tour.

Some say that Praga is a city within a city with a real spirit of the past, spared from the destruction during WW2. Few years ago it became a hip place to be, filled with trendy cafes, bars and shops. At the same time, it’s authentic, old and rundown in many areas. For this reason, street artists love it. Praga is not an obvious choice for everyone but as locals, we can assure you it’s worth a try.

Tour Highlights
Went to three tours with Orange Umbrella guys: Old Warsaw, WW2 and Alternative Praga. Beata was our guide in old town and WW2 and she had lots and lots of stories to tell about the city and its history. Peter guided our 2 h trip to Praga district. His english was really good and easy to understand. All in all the tour was nice, but I was hoping to hear more stories from alternative point of view. I felt that this tour did not match so well with description.
Don’t miss the opportunity to join one of the Walking Tours – They’re great. So informative and so enlightening. We would never miss an opportunity to have a walkabout with them. They really add to the enjoyment of your holiday.
It was a bit rainy at the day when I took this tour so only 6 people came, but that made tour very engaging. Begining was a bit boring, but don’t judge book from its cover. Later tour became more and more interesting. Anna did very good job and told many interesting and unexpected facts. She also answered many questions from the group. After this tour I went to Copernicus Science Centre which is very interesting place. But when I was there I felt that tour was so good and I would better go on one more tour than this centre. Big thanks to Anna. Dziękuję bardzo 🙂

I loved my experience in Warsaw, specially the tours from Orange Umbrella! Beata is an amazing guide, intelligent, funny, and why not say it: beautiful! i would totally recommend it to my friends and if i ever come back to Warsaw, would definatelly attend the others tours! Keep the amazing job!
Of course it’s not free but you pay how much you think. I was impressed by the nice student guide. He was excited about what he share with us. He was excellent and all of them are. They do an important job.

Jewish Warsaw Free Walking Tour
Overview of the tour in Warsaw
Before the horrors that followed the Second World War, Warsaw used to have the biggest Jewish community in Europe, and the only city that came close to it was New York. It’s a story of stubbornness, as for many centuries the Jews were not allowed in the city. However, that did not stop them from participating in city life – during good times and bad. The Jews played an important part in the fight against occupying powers, helping the citizens with their struggles. In the 19th and the early 20th century the city experienced a great influx and during the Interwar Period, the city flourished where hundreds of artists, actors, writers, and journalists built up a cultural life that can hardly be matched again and will forever be cherished. The Second World War and the following Holocaust changed Warsaw forever and left a deep, permanent scar on the city, its culture, and history. But there is more to Jewish Warsaw than the past. There is also the here and now – the living Jewish community with a synagogue, kindergarten, school, and the only regularly functioning Yiddish theatre in the world: the Ester Rachela Kamińska Jewish Theatre.
