Love Is A Journey, Not A Destination

Relationships often seem perfect in the beginning. then something happens. what is it that happens.

By Maia Berens — Written on Dec 31, 2021

couple riding bikes

When I run across someone who expects to have a perfect relationship at all times, I feel sad for them. Life is not like that. Babies are perfect — and then they cry and mess with their diapers. Relationships often seem perfect in the beginning and then something happens. What is it that happens?

Life happens. And the emotional reactions you each have to it often causes friction. For example, you’re married for a year. You couldn’t be happier and then you lose your job . You’re fine about it.

A little scared maybe but you’ve watched your father bounce back from business failure a number of times and you somehow know all will be well. He, on the other hand, only feels really comfortable when he knows what the future will be. Uncertainty brings out a controlling side you never really noticed before.

And the budding entrepreneur in you who kind of likes the challenge of creating something out of nothing, DOES NOT WANT TO BE CONTROLLED.

Well, imagine a few more years of like reactions – now experiencing the other person without stars in your eyes and 5 years down the line, you both want to walk away because your relationship is now so painful. There are so many unexpressed feelings that resistance has now turned into rejection.

Is there a different way? What if you both decided to use your relationship as personal growth or personal development journey? You know, like what you might see on Oprah. Picture the same scene as above, only now you and he have agreed that you are both committed to the relationship journey.

Also, you both know that on the relationship journey there will be bumps on the road, detours, and maybe some things like that last driver who gave you the finger when he didn’t like what you did. But you have agreed to be committed to the success of this journey knowing all that.

Semantics? I think not.

I entered my first marriage with the traditional lack of awareness. I was supposed to be married, so I was. I didn’t really know myself , so my relationship was mostly reaction. I reacted to him. He reacted to me. It was a mess.

Then I went on a journey similar to the one you are probably on if you are reading this. I went on a journey to find myself and I met a man who was on a similar journey. In 1986 we decided to journey together. We were married.

We do look at life as a journey and our relationship is a major part of that. Here are some of the things we’ve learned along the way:

1. we learned that we had to walk a kind of joyful tightrope between putting ourselves first and putting each other first..

What a learning! How can I put myself first , my needs, and at the same time have one eye noticing if he needs me a little bit more than usual at this particular time? How can I not overdo it either way? Too much attention on me to the exclusion of him; or too much attention on him to the exclusion of me. A joyful tightrope.

2. We learned that instead of committing to each other, we needed to commit to the power of the relationship.

We all have bad times and jerky days or even weeks. So when he’s like that, do I want to be committed to him? But if my commitment is to the power of the relationship, I can get outside the current situation and remember that it’s usually great.

3. Communication.

Oh, you know that. Of course, there has to be communication , but it has to be of a certain nature. It needs to be in emotional integrity. If you feel hurt, angry, unloved, and unloving, you need to learn how to appropriately express that along with love, understanding, and forgiveness. If you try to bury it, it will definitely come back and bite you in the butt.

4. You need to hold on to the feeling of valuing and respecting each other —  always.

5. you know the spark that is there in the beginning it requires maintenance..

If you just let your busy life be your focus, you will lose that connection and sometimes it’s really hard to find again.

6. You need to let each other know you appreciate each other.

7. each of you needs to take full responsibility for everything..

So when you are thinking about your relationship or the one you want to find, consider it a journey – a part of this wonderful experience called YOUR LIFE.

Jennifer Lopez Takes Us On Her Journey To Love In ‘This is Me… Now’

i love this journey for us

For the past three decades, Jennifer Lopez has been one of the most popular and newsworthy artists. On “This is Me… Now,” Lopez creates a sequel to her 2002 album “This is Me… Then” and shows us what she has gone through the past two decades on her journey to love and how she found herself back to the one she was always meant to be with.

“This is Me… Now” is Lopez’s first solo studio album in a decade, though she was still releasing multiple singles a year and staying relevant and successful since her last album in 2014.

Since then, she has gone through many prolific relationships and break ups including ones with her backup dancer Casper Smart, former baseball star Alex Rodriguez and getting back together with her ex-husband, Ben Affleck. These three relationships are vital context when listening to the new album and watching the accompanying film.

My favorite parts of the album are when Lopez is actually trying to tell a story about her real life. The songs where we are learning about a real experience that she went through are “Midnight Trip to Vegas” and “Greatest Love Story Never Told.”

The album is fully solo and on a good majority of the songs, there is a third verse that is rapped by Lopez. On some of the songs, I really enjoy her raps, but they got repetitive after a while.

The musical film gives more insight into Lopez’s relationships. Even though she said it is not an autobiographical film, she said there is definitely truth to it. Sonically, the album sounds similar to the R&B/pop sound that we all know her for and that she does so well.

She tries to emulate the sound from the “This is Me… Then” album and does it well, but there is nothing really interesting about the production on the album as it all stays in that same lane.

“Rebound,” “Mad in Love,” and “not.going.anywhere.” are fun J.Lo bops that could have been released as singles, but it is tracks like “Midnight Trip to Vegas” and “Greatest Love Story Never Told” that perfectly fit what this album is trying to say.

Even though it was a little bit muddy on the way there, we get to some real lyrical moments on those last two tracks of the album. Those two songs are my favorite because they feel the closest to what Lopez is really feeling and the most vulnerable.

She is so widely known that she has become some sort of an enigma. A beautiful versatile icon that so many look up to that no one can really touch or get to know because it might take away all that glamor and allure. I wish that there was more of this Lopez on the album, but I respect her for making another album when she really did not need to.

The musical film, in a lot of ways, feels like the mix of one long music video and a genuine romantic drama film. She wanted to create something to go along with the album and created something that is so insane it truly should be watched by everyone just for the insanity of it all.

The film touches on this journey of love for her not just being in the last decade, or two decades, it has been ever since she was a little girl. In the film, we see a young Lopez talk to a current Lopez, and the current Lopez has to console young Lopez.

In this moment you see both Lopez’s get healed and learn that they need to love themselves first, and that’s why their journey with love and relationships has been so trivial.

Lopez really used every last bit of the $20 million budget on big blockbuster effects and computer-generated imagery that looks just as good or even better than some Marvel movies, and a wide range of cameos.

Using these cameos to represent all the zodiac signs was a smart and cute idea, and I never thought I would watch Jane Fonda, Post Malone and Neil deGrasse Tyson all act together in one room.

All that to say, only someone like her can get this wide variety of characters all in one room. Affleck, her husband and muse for a lot of the music on this album, has a cameo in the musical film in an unexpected role. It took me until I was halfway through the film to realize that this character was actually him.

This album and film is a lot of J.Lo all at once and she definitely gave every piece of this her all. Does it feel excessive and redundant some of the time? Yes, but if you are wanting to be entertained, Lopez definitely knows how to do it well.

JOURNEY Releases New Single 'Don't Give Up On Us'

Legendary rockers JOURNEY have released a visualizer video for "Don't Give Up On Us" . The song is taken from the band's upcoming album, "Freedom" , which will arrive on July 8 via BMG except in Europe and Japan, where it will be issued via Frontiers Music Srl .

Emerging from the pandemic with a supercharged new studio lineup, "Don't Give Up On Us" will be followed by an epic 15-track set of new original songs that brings back the grand scale of the group's greatest moments, along with updated and bold new directions and sounds.

JOURNEY founding member, guitarist, songwriter and producer Neal Schon stated about the track: "It is a very melodic song. It's soulful, coming more from that R&B place and a little more Motown sounding but it definitely rocks. I feel like it's got JOURNEY all over it."

While the forthcoming album was made with visions of arena and stadium stages, it started from humble beginnings. In 2020, as COVID-19 swept the globe, Schon was stuck at home like the rest of us. "During the pandemic, there wasn't much to do," he says. "I spent a lot of time in my little studio at home, learning how to play keyboards and looping. Some of those ideas ended up being songs. So it kind of came out of nowhere."

As JOURNEY 's legend continues to grow larger and their touring gets bigger, "Freedom" will be the first album of new material to be released in 11 years, since 2011's "Eclipse" , and in addition to longtime keyboard player and primary lyricist Jonathan Cain and vocalist Arnel Pineda , one more member was recruited for the upcoming album — bassist extraordinaire Randy Jackson , who had played on JOURNEY 's 1986 album "Raised On Radio" .

"Freedom" track listing:

01. Together We Run (4:49) 02. Don't Give Up On Us (5:23) 03. Still Believe In Love 04. You Got The Best Of Me (5:33) 05. Live To Love Again (5:30) 06. The Way We Used To Be (3:35) 07. Come Away With Me (4:02) 08. After Glow (5:22) 09. Let It Rain (4:40) 10. Holdin On (3:14) 11. All Day All Night (3:38) 12. Don't Go (4:58) 13. United We Stand (5:05) 14. Life Rolls On (4:57) 15. Beautiful As You Are (7:10)

JOURNEY 's current touring lineup features bassist Todd Jensen , a veteran musician who has played for various artists, including the bands SEQUEL , HARDLINE and HARLOW , as well as David Lee Roth , Ozzy Osbourne , Steve Perry , Alice Cooper and Paul Rodgers . Also part of JOURNEY 's current incarnation is returning drummer Deen Castronovo , who shared the drum duties in the band last year with Narada Michael Walden . Walden , Jackson and keyboardist/backing singer Jason Derlatka all joined JOURNEY in 2020 following the band's acrimonious split with drummer Steve Smith and bassist Ross Valory . Jackson — who previously played with JOURNEY during the mid-1980s — was forced to miss all the recent gigs because he is reportedly recovering from back surgery. Prior to JOURNEY 's recent Las Vegas residency, Jackson had been replaced at the band's 2021 shows by Marco Mendoza , who had played several shows in 2019 with Castronovo and Schon under the "Neal Schon's Journey Through Time" banner.

"Freedom" includes the single "The Way We Used To Be" , which came out in June 2021. The song was the multi-platinum band's first new music since 2011's album "Eclipse" , and the first track released by the band's revamped lineup. "The Way We Used To Be" marked Walden and Derlatka 's first studio recordings with the band, and Jackson 's first since 1986's "Raised On Radio" . The song was produced by Walden at his Tarpan Studios , with co-production by Schon and keyboardist Jonathan Cain .

Since the group's formation in 1973, JOURNEY has earned 19 top 40 singles, 25 gold and platinum albums, and has sold nearly 100 million albums globally. Their "Greatest Hits" album is certified 15 times-platinum, making JOURNEY one of the few bands to ever have been diamond-certified, and their song "Don't Stop Believin'" has been streamed over one billion times alone.

JOURNEY was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2017, and 2018's co-headlining tour with DEF LEPPARD was the band's most successful tour to date, landing them in the Top 10 year-end touring chart with more than 1 million tickets sold, and earning them the prestigious Billboard "Legends Of Live" touring award. March 2019 saw the release of "Escape & Frontiers Live In Japan" , a live DVD/CD set from their concert at the Budokan in Tokyo featuring the band's first-ever performances of the albums "Escape" and "Frontiers" in their entirety. JOURNEY has also received a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame and were inducted into the Hollywood Bowl Hall Of Fame . Additionally, the band is the subject of the award-winning documentary "Don't Stop Believin': Everyman's Journey" about the band's resurgence upon adding Arnel Pineda as lead singer after founding member Neal Schon discovered the Philippines native on YouTube .

Last August, Schon gave a college radio simulcast interview to WMSC and WNUW where he discussed the progress of the songwriting and recording sessions for the band's upcoming studio album. He said: "I learned how to play keyboards better than ever during the pandemic, which I'd never really done before. And that's where our first single [ 'The Way We Used To Be' ] came from. [I sent it to] Jonathan [ Cain , keyboards], and he did the lyrics on it and put a rough vocal on it. And then we had Arnel sing it, and we cut it and re-cut it in the studio, and it was just released. And a lot of people went, 'Wow, man. I love it.' 90 percent of people love it; the other 10 percent went, 'I don't think it sounds like JOURNEY .' I go, 'I never wrote it to be a JOURNEY song.'"

According to Schon , he and his bandmates had written over 30 new songs for the upcoming JOURNEY record. "Some of 'em are unmistakably JOURNEY without sounding like another song that we have; it just sounds like a new version of the band," he said. "It's ballistic, man. And there's no lack of guitar on this record. So I'm excited about it getting out there. I think any guitar player out there is gonna love this record, because I'm just kind of unleashing on this record — like I do a lot live, but sometimes hold back in the studio. I don't think it's O.D.ing on the guitar at all and going overboard, but I like to check out the times and where I see music going. I usually have a pretty good gut instinct about it, and I feel like the late '60s, the time and era of early Jeff Beck with Rod Stewart and [ LED ] ZEPPELIN when they first came out, Jimi Hendrix , the CREAM with [ Eric ] Clapton and Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker , that whole era, there's a lot of younger kids out there, younger generation, that never got to experience that era. So I'm feeling like that is the era that I grew up in and that's what I truly love doing and the type of music I love playing, so I'm going more there and I'm writing for that, to be able to do that on stage. And I think it's really gonna trip some people out, when we finally do get this album out there and can combine it with all the hits that we do have."

He continued: "There's certain songs that are being mixed by Bob Clearmountain , that mixed our 'Raised On Radio' record, and he's made it sound really amazing, really pulled it together. You have mixers out there sometimes that have this incredible ability to take work that you've done throughout a year, even though they were recorded at separate times, and different sounds here and there, and they pull it all together and they make it sound like it's a tight album that has a focus sound-wise."

Neal added: "The whole album, there's not a filler on the record; that's what I can tell you. I look at it, and I'm listening to it now, and many others that have known our music for a long time that have very good ears have said, 'Look, this is the modern-day-and-age 'Escape' . I think this could be the next 'Escape' for you guys.' And I think that's a bold statement, but honest to God, I feel like it's that good."

OUR STORY

LOVE YOUR JOURNEY

The ethos of Hagley West is built on my life experiences. As a younger man I lived dedicated to ascending to the next rung of life’s ladder, forever reaching and never being satisfied. How wrong could I have been. For it’s not the goal that’s the achievement, it’s the gratitude for the time we have, the joy of the process and the love of the journey.

I decided instead to celebrate the love of the journey, not just mine, but also of others.

No two journeys are the same, whether they be emotional, physical, mental or spiritual: but every journey is marked by time.

Inside Out 2 Trailer Introduces Envy, Boredom, and Embarrassment to a Teenage Riley

Riley's journey to becoming a teenager won't be an easy one.

Adam Bankhurst Avatar

Inside Out 2 received a brand new trailer that introduces us to Envy, Boredom, and Embarrassment — new emotions Riley will need to deal with as she becomes a teenager.

The trailer begins with the emotions we know and love from Inside Out — Joy, Anger, Fear, and Disgust — before giving us another look at Anxiety and the new emotions she brought with her.

Unfortunately, it doesn't appear all of these emotions will be able to happily live together as the original emotions find themselves literally bottled away after Anxiety says, "Riley's life requires more sophisticated emotions than all of you!"

'Operation New Riley' begins after that with the new emotions in charge but it's anything but smooth. Joy, Anger, Fear, and Disgust eventually escape their bottle-shaped prison and go on their own mission to get back and help Riley become the best person she can be.

Inside Out 2 is set to be released in theaters on June 14, 2024, and Pixar also released a new poster to celebrate the launch of the trailer.

"Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out 2 returns to the mind of newly minted teenager Riley just as headquarters is undergoing a sudden demolition to make room for something entirely unexpected: new Emotions! Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust, who’ve long been running a successful operation by all accounts, aren’t sure how to feel when Anxiety shows up. And it looks like she’s not alone," the official description reads.

i love this journey for us

The original Inside Out was released in 2015 and, in our review, we said, "Pixar has never been so formally and visually inventive and rarely so funny as they are here. Perhaps lacking the sledgehammer tear duct attack of Up, it’s also an exceptionally poignant and thoughtful look at developing and understanding our feelings. It’s also simply enormous fun."

Amy Poehler will return as Joy alongside Phyllis Smith's Sadness and Lewis Black's Anger. Liza Lapira will be taking on the role of Disgust following Mindy Kaling from the original film and Tony Hale will become Fear after replacing Bill Hader.

For more, check out where Inside Out ranks on our list of the best Pixar films and everything else we know about the much-anticipated sequel.

Sensical Sense (From Afrika with Love) Introduction

In this groundbreaking episode of Clarity Media's latest auditory adventure, Lee Hall sits down with the enigmatic Sensical, a 23-year-old Kenyan powerhouse whose life mission transcends continents and generations. Sensical, a rapper turned Pan-African visionary, shares his audacious dream of uniting African descendants worldwide, all while dropping knowledge bombs that could rival the impact of discovering coltan in Kenya. But it's not just about the minerals; it's about mining the depths of our collective history to forge a future where "African" means "united," regardless of the borders drawn by others. Why You Can't Miss This Episode: From Beats to Global Streets: Discover how Sensical's journey from laying down tracks to laying down the groundwork for a united African diaspora is changing the game. His insights into the power of unity over division will have you reevaluating your own place in the world's most populous family reunion. A Laugh in Every Lesson: Sensical might be discussing heavy topics like the legacy of colonialism, the illusion of independence, and the economic chess game played on a global scale, but his delivery is anything but somber. Imagine trying to keep a straight face while he compares the Berlin Conference to the world's most disastrous potluck dinner, where Africa was the table, and European powers forgot to bring anything but their appetites. The Call to Come Home: Whether you're African by birth, by descent, or by spirit, Sensical's message is clear—Africa is not just a place on the map; it's a state of mind ready for rediscovery and reinvestment. And for those worried about the logistics of such a grand return, he's got practical advice that might just involve turning your Christmas savings into a ticket to the motherland. Or, at the very least, into a fund that supports African-led businesses and initiatives. A Vision for the Future: Sensical doesn't just lay out the problems; he's all about solutions. From creating a united black economy to leveraging our collective spending power, he's drafting a blueprint for a future where the African diaspora isn't just surviving; it's thriving. Tune in to "Unearthing Wisdom with Sensical" for a conversation that's as enlightening as it is entertaining. You'll come for the promise of untold stories and stay for the realization that perhaps, in Sensical's world, we're all just one big family trying to find our way back home. And who knows? By the end of it, you might just be ready to pack your bags, or at least, pack your mind with a new perspective on what it means to be African in today's world. Available now

Alone on the Ocean, With 400,000 Friends

As Cole Brauer sped to the finish of a solo race around the world, she used Instagram to blow up sailing’s elitist image.

Video dinner parties, spa days, stuffed animals, favorite hoodies and cozy, colorful fleece blankets. Cole Brauer’s Instagram feed hardly feels like the work of someone racing a 40-foot sailboat around the world in the Global Solo Challenge. But Ms. Brauer, 29, is not an average ocean racer.

In 2022, Ms. Brauer had tried out for another competition, the Ocean Race, which is considered the pinnacle of professional ocean racing. Sailors in that race are highly trained, wear matching foul weather gear and have corporate sponsors. And most of them are men. Ms. Brauer, who had sailed thousands of miles on high performance ocean racing boats, felt she was ready to join their ranks.

But after competing in trials in France, Ms. Brauer was told she was “too short for the Southern Ocean” and was sent on her way.

A woman in a red sleeveless jumpsuit holds a railing with her left hand and a piece of a sail with her right hand.

In spite of her small stature — she stands 5 feet 1 inch — Ms. Brauer rounded Cape Horn, Chile, on Jan. 26, the last of the three great capes of her journey to finish the Global Solo Challenge. It is a feat most of the Ocean Race sailors picked instead of her have never even attempted. And despite being the youngest competitor in the race, she is ranked second overall, just days away from reaching the finish line in A Coruña, Spain.

Along the way, her tearful reports of breakages and failures, awe-struck moments during fiery sunrises, dance parties and “shakas” signs at the end of each video have garnered her a following that has eclipsed any sailor’s or sailing event’s online, even the Ocean Race and the America’s Cup, a prestigious race that is more well known by mainstream audiences.

“I’m so happy to have rounded the Horn,” Ms. Brauer said in a video call from her boat, First Light, after a morning spent sponging out endless condensation and mildew from its bilges. “It feels like Day 1. I feel reborn knowing I’ll be in warmer weather. The depression you feel that no one in the world can fix that. Your house is trying to sink and you can’t stop it.”

Shifting gears, she added, “It’s all getting better.”

Ms. Brauer’s rise in popularity — she has more than 400,000 followers on Instagram — has come as a surprise to her, but her achievements, combined with her bright personality, have struck a chord. And she has set a goal of using her platform to change the image of professional ocean sailing.

“Cole wants to prove you can go around the world and watch Netflix every once in a while and wear your pajamas,” said Lydia Mullan, Ms. Brauer’s media manager. “As for her mental health, she’s really creating a space in her routine for herself, to create that joy she hasn’t seen in other sailors.”

Four months after she began the Global Solo Challenge, a solo, nonstop race around the world featuring sailboats of different sizes, Ms. Brauer is holding strong. Sixteen sailors began the journey and only eight remain on the ocean, with the Frenchman Philippe Delamare having finished first on Feb. 24 after 147 days at sea.

Ms. Brauer, who was more than a week ahead of her next closest competitor as of Thursday morning, is on track to set a speed record for her boat class, and to be the first American woman to complete a solo, nonstop sailing race around the world.

Her Authentic Self

Ms. Brauer has been happy to turn the image of a professional sailor on its head. Competitors in the Ocean Race and the America’s Cup tend to pose for static social media posts with their arms crossed high on their chests, throwing stern glares. Ms. Brauer would rather be more comfortable.

She brought objects like fleece blankets on her journey, despite the additional weight, and said solo sailing has helped give her the freedom to be herself.

“Without those things I would be homesick and miserable,” she said of her supply list. “We need comfort to be human. Doing my nails. Flossing. It’s hard for the general public to reach pro sailors. People stop watching. If you treat people below you, people stop watching.”

Other female sailors have noticed the same disconnect. “The year I did the Vendée Globe, Michel Desjoyeaux didn’t mention that anything went wrong,” Dee Caffari, a mentor of Ms. Brauer’s who has sailed around the world six times, said of that race’s winner. “Then we saw his jobs list after the finish and we realized he was human.”

Ms. Brauer, as her social media followers can attest, is decidedly human.

They have gotten used to her “hangout” clothes and rock-out sessions. Her team produces “Tracker Tuesdays,” where a weather forecaster explains the routes Ms. Brauer chooses and why she uses different sails, and “Shore Team Sunday,” where team members are introduced.

“In the beginning I looked at what she was doing, posting about washing her knickers in bucket and I was like, ‘No! What are you doing?’” Ms. Caffari said. “I’ve been so professional and corporate in my career. She’s been so authentic and taken everyone around the world with her. Cole is that next generation of sailor. They tell their story in a different way and it’s working.”

Finding a Purpose

Ms. Brauer was introduced to sailing at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Those days of casual racing on the turquoise waters of Kaneohe Bay informed her vision of an inclusive sailing community. That image was shattered when she came to the mainland to try her hand at professional sailing.

“When I came to the East Coast it was so closed off,” she said of those early experiences. “I couldn’t get a job in the industry. Pro sailors were jaded. They didn’t want anyone to take their job. It’s a gig-based economy. Competition, we’re pinned against each other, especially women in high-performance sailing since there are fewer of us.”

“This whole process of being a pro sailor over the past five years, I feel mentally punched in the face and my legs kicked out from under me,” she added. “I screamed and I cried. Without those experiences I wouldn’t be as mentally tough. It made me callused.”

A big break happened when she landed a gig as boat captain for Michael Hennessy’s successful Class40 Dragon. The boat was a perfect platform to hone her ocean sailing skills as she ripped up and down the East Coast delivering it to races, often alone, pushing Dragon to its limits. Her Instagram posts of those adventures drew attention, and she was invited to tryout for the Ocean Race, a fully crewed race around the world in powerful 65-footers.

“I was crushed,” Ms. Brauer said of being rejected after the trials.

Ms. Brauer, though, found a new purpose. After months of living in her van and working on Dragon, she found a benefactor in F.K. Day, the president of World Bicycle Relief and the executive vice president of SRAM Corporation, who, along with his brother Lincoln, agreed to buy a boat and fund a massive refit for the Global Solo Challenge, which was only three months away.

Conducting the hurricane of activity last summer in Newport, R.I., Ms. Brauer knew this was her moment to shine. But representatives for her new sponsors had reservations about her bold social media experiment.

“I got a massive pushback: ‘How can you be so vain. This isn’t important. We don’t want to pay for this,’” she said. “I said none of this is going to matter if the world can’t see it.”

Her boat was covered with cameras her shore team could monitor, with technology allowing for constant recording that could be used to capture unexpected twists. Ms. Brauer got some immediate traction, but nothing prepared her for the numbers she would hit once the race began.

“We were taking bets in Spain,” said Ms. Brauer, who had to sail First Light nearly 3,000 miles from Newport to Spain as a qualifier for the race. “There was a photo of me excited we hit 10,000 followers. Ten thousand for a little race? That’s massive.”

A few months later she has 40 times that count.

A Dangerous Journey

Only a handful of solo ocean racers have been American, all of whom being male. Now Ms. Brauer has a larger following than any of them, pushing far beyond the typical reach of her sport.

“This is a really good case study,” says Marcus Hutchinson, a project manager for ocean racing teams. “For me she’s an influencer. She’s a Kardashian. People will be looking for her to promote a product. She doesn’t need to worry about what the American sailors think. That’s parochial. She has to split with the American environment.”

Unlike her peers, Ms. Brauer is happy to do some extracurricular work along the way toward goals like competing in the prestigious Vendée Globe. “I’m part of the social media generation,” she said. “It’s not a burden to me.”

The playful videos and colorful backdrop, though, can make it easy for her followers to forget that she is in the middle of a dangerous race. Half her competitors in the Global Solo Challenge have pulled out, and ocean races still claim lives, particularly in the violent, frigid storms of the Southern Ocean.

“She was apprehensive,” Ms. Caffari said of Ms. Brauer’s rounding Cape Horn. “I told her: ‘You were devastated that you didn’t get on the Ocean Race. Now look at you. Those sailors didn’t even get to go to the Southern Ocean.’”

The question now is how Ms. Brauer will retain her followers’ desire for content after the race is over.

“She will be unaware of the transition she went through,” Mr. Hutchinson said. “She’s become a celebrity and hasn’t really realized it.”

Ms. Brauer, however, said she received as much from her followers as she gave them.

“They are so loving,” she said. “I send a photo of a sunset, and they paint watercolors of the scene to sell and raise money for the campaign. When I start to feel down, they let me stand on their shoulders.”

Love On The Spectrum US: Which Couples Are Still Together In 2024? (& Which Aren't)

  • Journey & Talia are not together despite going on a few dates during Love On the Spectrum season 2.
  • Abbey Lutes & David Isaacman from season 1 are still happily together.
  • Dani Bowman & Adan are still together but have difficulty finding time to see each other.

The Netflix dating reality show Love On The Spectrum wrapped up season 2 recently, but which of the couples are still together? The show fights against the misconception that people who are on the autism spectrum can't form and maintain meaningful relationships. The most interesting part of the show is that it explores each cast member's personal experience with autism, which offers a broader view of it.

The cast of Love On The Spectrum seasons 1 and 2 included ten 20-something singles who are somewhere on the autism spectrum. Dating is difficult for everybody, but looking for love presents unique challenges to those who are neurodiverse . Throughout the season, these singles dated and sometimes even fell in love with the help of autism expert and relationship coach Jennifer Cook O'Toole.

Tanner Smith & Kate

Love On The Spectrum season 2's Tanner Smith went on his first date ever when he went out with Kate. He told cameras he was looking for a woman who was polite, like him. Though they had a nice time on their lovely first date together, Tanner and Kate are no longer dating . “ Right now, I am not dating anyone and I am good with being single for now. Kate and I are very good friends since the show and we text and stay in touch ,” Tanner told Netflix.

Dani Bowman & Adán

It's complicated.

Though Dani Bowman and Adan from Love On The Spectrum season 2 are still together, they haven't seen each other in months and only communicate by text . “ Our last date was in July, and I recognize that he’s juggling a busy schedule with college and a part-time job ," Dani told Netflix. " I genuinely wish we could find more time to spend together, ” she added.

Connor Tomlinson & Emma

Although the Love On The Spectrum season 2 closing credits read that Connor Tomlinson and Emma were still together, they have since broken up . During an interview with Netflix, Connor said, “ We still keep in contact by text and go out together from time to time. Emily [Emma] and I have both decided to be platonic. I am still single .”

James Jones & Maggie

James first appeared in Love On The Spectrum season 1, but he met and dated Maggie during season 2. The pair went on two dates, but things didn't work out between them, and they decided to go their separate ways . “ Maggie said she actually wasn’t really feeling a spark of romance ," James told Parade . " She wanted to be only just friends .” Since James appeared in the first two seasons, maybe he'll return to the series if there's a Love On The Spectrum season 3 .

“ Maggie said she actually wasn’t really feeling a spark of romance . She wanted to be only just friends .”

Kaelynn Partlow & Peter Cole

Kaelynn Partlow met Peter Cole while speed dating on Love On The Spectrum season 1, and sparks immediately flew between the couple. When their official first date went well, Kaelynn and Peter agreed to go out together again. However, the text on the screen during the closing credits of the season finale read, “ Kaelynn and Peter had a second date plan. He canceled on her. They haven’t seen each other again .” Kaelynn is still single and looking for love.

“ Kaelynn and Peter had a second date plan. He canceled on her. They haven’t seen each other again .”

Subodh Garg & Rachel Osterbach

After revealing that he had never been on a date in his entire life, Subodh Garg went on a date with Rachel Osterbach, who first appeared in A&E's Born This Way. After a couple of dates, Subodh asked Rachel to be his girlfriend , and she agreed. The couple beamed as they shared the news with their families.

At the end of the season, Netflix confirmed the couple was still together. However, an Instagram post on behalf of Sobudh read, “ We would like to share that Subodh and Rachel are no longer together as a couple. They are going to remain friends going forward ."

Seasons 1 and 2 of Love On The Spectrum are currently streaming on Netflix.

Thank you all

First of all great game love the music. But I think it should have and I don’t want to complain because the game is working out fine a little more money given away instead of three cents make it eight lol anyway what I really want to say wise that if you when you’re flipping the cards, the card should automatically go to where they got to go. Like if there’s a seven down below on my pile, I want my crowd to go down there, yeah if I don’t like the pilots on I can change that with my finger but I love the game. Thank you very much I had deleted it and I just reinstalled it so wish me luck. XO love you all. Love y’all get

Painless Withdrawal

I m an ok solitaire player. Probably a little more than average. I was able to win and withdraw about $15 without any issues or making any deposits. I did forfeit a few dollars bonus cash. Unlike Solitaire Clash, after withdrawing this game still gives me the option to watch and add and play for a $.60 prize pool. I will update if I am able to win enough to withdraw a second time. Good gameplay and the game is fun when playing for coins as well.
I have played a lot of different games in this category. This by far seems to be ran on skills rather than ai. I also am building my money. I haven’t gotten to cash it out yet. In another one I have been waiting a year for what they owe me and since then I have built quite the amount… but they did sabatoge another aspect so I am not counting my chickens…. Yet; this seem like it might be legit ….. time will tell
