Inside the Hotly Anticipated Rosewood Bangkok

The luxury hotel has launched three sprawling signature suites.

When Covid-19 catalyzed the collapse of Thailand’s tourism industry, the long-awaited, freshly opened Rosewood Bangkok had no choice but to close. Now, the country’s luxury market has stabilized once more, and Rosewood Bangkok is back with a bang — and the Thai hotel scene is all the richer for it.

With guests checking into the Rosewood luxury hotel since September, the reopening has allowed for the official global launch of Rosewood Bangkok’s Houses: three sprawling signature suites touted as being among the most lavish abodes offered by any hotel in this immense city .

Rosewood Bangkok’s 159 rooms range from the clever Sense Studios, which include a dedicated spa space and marble-lined whirlpool where therapists can administer cosseting, in situ treatments, to a Two-bedroom Sky Pool Suite with its own outdoor terrace and private plunge pool. Rosewood Bangkok’s most exceptional spaces are the aforementioned three ‘Houses,’ the designation given globally to Rosewood’s most exceptional suites .

On the 20th and 23rd floor respectively, Nara House and Thara House are nearly identical, save for the former being smaller. Each the figurative home of a worldly art collector, they are elegantly finished in jades and grays, decorated with a geometric chandelier here and a fold of jacquard Jim Thompson textiles there. Walk-in closets are mammoth; dinky kitchenettes provide just enough space for on-call butlers to prepare drinks for impromptu cocktail parties; and outdoor terraces feature glass-fronted plunge pools.

Better still is the one-bedroom Bannakarn House, which sprawls across the entirety of the 29th floor and is accessed via its own private elevator. With knockout views of Sukhumvit’s skyscrapers, the living room’s centerpiece is a stand-alone alabaster cocktail bar . Furnished with Gaggenau appliances and full kitchen facilities, the adjacent 10-seat dining room is all set to host catered dinner parties. An expansive terrace with outdoor lounge chairs and ample space for alfresco cocktails also offers a suntrap plunge pool.

Given all the surrounding grandeur, the bedroom is surprisingly simple — floor-to-ceiling windows provide sweeping city views, and plump pillows, embroidered with guests’ initials, are piled high atop the bed. The hotel’s butlers ensure every House guest enjoys bespoke touches, and adept concierges guarantee requests are handled with flair and ingenuity.

Foreign travelers might feel miffed that the hotel’s flagship restaurant is a Chinese, rather than Thai, eatery, but Nan Bei is special. Embellished with Art Deco flourishes, the 19th-floor venue ambitiously serves a menu that oscillates from top to tail of the country (‘Nan Bei’ is Mandarin for ‘North South’), and the results are a resounding success.

Generous sharing dishes such as honey-glazed barbecue pork, spotted grouper and classic Peking duck are particularly wondrous. At all-day Lakorn, just off the lobby, Thai specialities are offered alongside competent Western dishes, while health-conscious hotel guests are catered to at organic café G&O.

Offering another vibe entirely, lively 30th-floor bar Lennon’s is modeled on old-school speakeasies and is beautifully finished in a ‘70s-lite honeyed palette of caramel and coffee. Its experimental cocktail menu pays tribute to yesteryear’s musicians — the full-bodied Donna Summer blends vodka, Aperol and Mancino Vermouth Rosso — while a DJ plays eclectic sets drawing from the bar’s collection of 6,000-plus vinyls.

Right in the heart of one the busiest cities in the world, Rosewood’s Sense Spa offers itself up as a haven of serenity from the never-ending bustle that has come to define Bangkok. Signature treatments draw inspiration from ancient Thai well-being rituals and utilize healing herbs such as ginger root and licorice, alongside products from EviDenS de Beauté and Maison Caulières.

As you’d expect from a top-tier Thai property, kind-spirited therapists are meticulously trained, and signature treatments are adapted to guests’ requirements. Rounding out the spa offering is an adjacent nail and hair salon. Three stories up, the 9th-floor gym offers fitness classes and stands alongside a 65-ft lap pool and whirlpool.

Rosewood Bangkok review: basking in neon glow

Bangkok’s new kid on the block offers a top-down persecutive on the city that never stops

There’s nothing quite like the feeling of someone greeting you once you arrive at an airport, particularly if that person then ushers you into the back of a limousine and drives you to the entrance of your hotel.

That’s exactly what The Week Portfolio was met with after a short flight from Koh Samui, an island in Southern Thailand, to Bangkok. We were transported to the city’s newest addition, the Rosewood hotel, situated on one of Bangkok’s busiest streets: Ploen Chit Road.

The hotel, which only opened in late March, is simply stunning to behold from the street. It boasts an asymmetric, pyramid-like design that is truly unique to the Bangkok landscape and hints at the opulence that awaits guests inside.

Above the city that never sleeps

rosewood bangkok travel weekly

Plenty of cities lay claim to never sleeping, but Bangkok definitely delivers on the promise. Bangkok is a city where you’ll find a food market next to an outdoor aerobics class - and both will be packed all the way through to midnight.

It’s exhilarating to be a part of it all, but you’ll get a new perspective from the panoramic windows of your room. Our suite provided stunning views over the busy shopping district below and the BTS Skytrain line that runs above the traffic-packed streets.

The view is jaw-dropping at night. It’s somewhat calming to sit by the window, staring out at the neon glow of surrounding skyscrapers as if you were playing a real life version of a city-building video game. But flick one of the many switches on your bedside control panel and the electronic blinds will block out the city nightlife; the bustle of Bangkok instantly silenced.

rosewood bangkok travel weekly

And the automatic blinds aren't the only hi-tech part of the room. The bathroom comes with a jet-powered Dyson Supersonic hairdryer and a bath with its own television screen. Even the toilet is futuristic, boasting a heated seat and a lid that automatically opens when you enter the bathroom. It makes you wonder why these Japanese-made lavatories aren't yet popular in the West.

The hotel's decor is the work of Celia Chu, a Taiwanese designer known for mixing traditional Western style with a contemporary twist. For instance, the furniture and wall decorations give the room a contemporary feel, though they’re juxtaposed with an assortment of classic books and ornaments that add a sense of homeliness. It all oozes opulence, but you won’t feel out of place curling up in bed and watching a movie.

An added bonus to the room was our butler Niko, who was on hand throughout the day to book us a table at one of the hotel’s restaurants or organise a transfer to the airport. Having little-to-no experience with butlers, asking Niko to make reservations and sort out our laundry was - admittedly - a little peculiar at first. But we quickly accustomed to the friendly service, which ultimately made our stay that little bit more relaxing.

A spa with a hi-tech twist

rosewood bangkok travel weekly

Upon arriving at the Sense spa, we were handed a dense flyer about the services one offer. In fact, “flyer” may be an understatement, what we were handed was closer to paperback novella.

The spa facilities are equally extensive, including five treatment rooms and a salon. Each is decorated with lavish marble surfaces and dark woods, a mix of modern Western luxury and traditional Thai decor.

As with the bedrooms, technology plays a key role in your choice of treatment.

In many spas, a massage table is simply a padded board with a donut-like pillow to rest your head. But the massage tables at the Sense spa are somewhat different. The boards are equipped with a series of motors that lets therapists bend and angle the table, helping them to deliver your chosen treatment more effectively.

The centrepiece is the pool, which delivers stunning views of the city skyline in one direction and a man-made waterfall at the other, where water tumbles down ten floors before splashing down into the pool. It’s an impressive, almost sci-fi-like piece of architecture that continues the futuristic theme of the hotel.

Fantastic food - and where to find it

rosewood bangkok travel weekly

You’ll have probably worked up an appetite after a long spa session. Thankfully, there are a couple of restaurants inside the hotel’s walls, serving a mix of European, Chinese and vegan cuisine.

Our restaurant of choice for the evening was the Lakorn European Brasserie (above), where we began with a delectable lobster soup followed by tender servings of beef cheek and an array of desserts to top the meal off.

After your meal, you can take the elevator to Lennon’s (below), a chic record bar that’s already gained the attention of the Bangkok elite. It’s not hard to see why, either, given the sweeping views it provides and the collection of 6,000 vinyl records that guests can listen to.

rosewood bangkok travel weekly

But Rosewood sits in a city known for its cuisine, so you’ll no doubt be tempted to venture into the capital to discover what Bangkok has to offer.

Usefully, the hotel is connected to a skywalk, linking it with a number of extravagant shopping malls. Our favourite, the closest to Rosewood, is Central Embassy - a more luxurious shopping centre than the nearby Central World and Siam Paragon.

Inside Embassy, you’ll find Bangkok’s typical mix of chic cafes and noodle bars, but - for a true taste of Thailand - be sure to visit Easy Buddy for a plate of Pad Kra Pao. It’s considerably more expensive than most casual restaurants in Bangkok, but is among the best in the city - and carries a considerable kick.

Bangkok is rich with non-Thai food as well including top-notch Korean, Japanese, Chinese and Italian restaurants dotted around the many malls in the local area. Our pick would be Nonna Nella, an Italian eatery with impressively authentic food, given its distance from Italy, and a wonderful selection of wines. It’s about a ten-minute taxi ride from the hotel, which, naturally, you could ask your butler to arrange.

Price start from around 9,450 Thai baht (£252) per night for a regular double room. Suites, which include a butler service, are priced from 19,350 Thai baht (£517) per night. Visit: rosewoodhotels.com/bangkok

Rates can vary widely by room type and season. "We Paid" is intended to give a general sense of price, but you might find considerably different rates for your trip.

When we book, we aim for the optimum season for the destination, but we avoid holidays and major public events, when prices are highest. We generally book a room at one category up from the most basic.

We take advantage of promotional rates, when possible. That means the rate you see above might have included other benefits, such as spa or meal credits.

Rosewood Bangkok

It’s hard to say what’s more impressive about the 2019-opened Rosewood Bangkok — the stunning silhouette of the two-tower, 30-story structure’s exterior or the litany of luxuries awaiting you inside. With regards to the former, the building loosely resembles the Thai wai, the local greeting where palms touch in a prayer-like fashion. It’s an architectural marvel in the heart of the city’s central business district that tugs at the heart as you approach it.

Once you walk through Rosewood Bangkok’s marble-draped lobby, you start to conjure even more feelings for the property. Fan-shaped lights and gorgeous Thai sculptures give spaces a distinct design aesthetic. Soft plums and blues, marvelously mismatched furniture and angled floor-to-ceiling windows ensure that rooms, suites and “houses” have an eclectic-yet-elegant energy.

Rounding things out are three restaurants and a top-floor bar that have flavor and fun as their essential ingredients.

  • While all 158 units of the Bangkok hotel have a residential air about them, the three houses take the concept to glorious heights. The super suites, which range from just over 2,000 square feet to more than 3,000, have living rooms, full kitchens and outdoor plunge pools that overlook the city.
  • Dining options range from beautiful breakfast spreads (Lakorn European Brasserie) to locally sourced organic lunches (G&O). Come dinner, find tiger prawns and squirrelfish on Nan Bei’s wildly tasty menu.
  • Lakorn has garnered quite the reputation for its elegant afternoon tea. Offered daily from 2:30 to 5 p.m., the sweet session consists of six hand-held treats and coffee or gourmet tea.
  • The 30th-floor Lennon’s bar has made a name for itself. A popular spot for locals and hotel guests, Lennon’s is a speakeasy with cool-named cocktails (the Bee Gees is made with pisco honey, citrus and fig) and a 6,000-record collection.
  • While a treatment from the Sense Spa’s vast menu can relax you, it’s in the indoor-outdoor saltwater pool (and its stunning waterfall feature) where you may find the most tranquility.
  • Rosewood Bangkok sits in a flourishing commercial district along Ploenchit Road, meaning great restaurant and retail options are all within walking distance. In fact, you’ll find direct access to the Central Embassy Shopping Mall from the luxury hotel.
  • The ninth-floor fitness center has all the amenities (new Technogym equipment) you’d expect from a high-end hotel and some you might not (boxing classes).
  • As much as there is to do in and around your room, the hotel wants you to get a feel for the city, too. With Rosewood Bangkok’s curated experiences, you can take a guided walk around Chinatown, go on a private tour of a silk factory, try your hand at cooking Thai cuisine and much more.

Ultra-Luxury Rosewood Bangkok Opens in The Heart of the Capital

rosewood bangkok travel weekly

Rosewood Bangkok, a striking new landmark for the capital, has opened as an intimate, ultra-luxury hotel on Ploenchit Road in heart of the city’s prime central business and retail district. As the 27th property in the growing global network for Rosewood Hotels & Resorts®, the hotel is the brand’s second destination in Thailand and also serves as a gateway to its sister Southeast Asian properties in Phuket; Phnom Penh, Cambodia; and Luang Prabang, Laos. Rosewood’s A Sense of Place® philosophy is exuberantly expressed with a design that honors rich Thai culture while celebrating the cutting-edge creativity and contemporary design ethos of the dynamic capital.

“Rosewood Bangkok exemplifies a perfect marriage of destination and Rosewood’s core concept of a modern ultra-luxury hotel experience,” says Sonia Cheng, chief executive officer of Rosewood Hotel Group. “We are thrilled for travelers and residents to experience the warmth of Thai hospitality and the dynamism and beauty of its culture within such a fresh, exciting and radiant retreat.”

The silhouette of the 30-storey standalone property is a dramatic addition to the Bangkok skyline. Two graceful, connected structures have been masterfully combined to create a new icon for the capital. The building’s form is inspired by the wai -- the charming Thai gesture of hands pressed together in greeting – and is itself an expression of the Thai capital’s growing influence as a design, fashion and creative hub in the region.

Rosewood Bangkok is situated within an enclave of embassies and sleek new office towers, surrounded by Thai fashion designer boutiques and is just steps from Central Embassy, the capital’s most luxurious upscale shopping mall.

The hotel provides direct access to the Ploenchit BTS Skytrain station, putting Bangkok’s major attractions and the city’s dining and nightlife districts only minutes away, and its close proximity to the major expressway to Bangkok’s two international airports also offers convenient access to all major destinations within the capital.

A Showcase of Modern Bangkok

The team of Kohn Pederson Fox with Tandem Architects as the executive architect, and Celia Chu Design Associates for interior design, set the stage for the contemporary yet timeless, intimate hospitality of an urban manor within the context of both Bangkok’s heritage and leading-edge, creative style.

“Thai spirit is infused into every aspect of the Rosewood Bangkok experience,” says Thomas Harlander, the hotel’s managing director. “Like the capital itself, the hotel is creatively contemporary, multi-layered, richly cultured and warmly welcoming – a fitting springboard for every guest’s own personal journey to discover the heart and soul of the city.”

In a nod to the Rosewood brand’s origins as a modern-day aristocratic manor, visitors arrive into their urban sanctuary via a private driveway signalling their entry to a world seemingly far removed from the bustling din of the city. The hotel’s contemporary design ethos is immediately communicated by the entryway’s modern metalwork sculpture in the form of wai spelled in ancient Thai alphabet by artist Jiandyin, and the tumbling waterfall hints of the refreshing retreat within.

The hotel has been designed to create a sense of intimacy and privacy throughout the entire guest journey; the brand’s signature blend of stylish comfort and inspired design is delivered by a décor of rich materials and finishes in a soothing, neutral color palette.

Throughout the hotel, spacious terraces, abundant natural light and city skyline vistas seamlessly meld with Thai contemporary artworks; local craft and indigenous textiles are translated to elegant, modern interpretations; and subtle tropical accents convey an urban resort sensibility.

In addition to the structure’s glossy façade and stunning architecture, water features within the hotel -- including a dramatic, indoor 10-story waterfall--are a tribute to Bangkok, a city built on water. The element of water--sacred in Thai culture, featuring in rites and rituals to symbolize peace and harmony -- is a pervasive theme throughout the hotel.

The hotel also showcases works of established and emerging Thai artists including significant pieces by Preecha Thaothong, named Thailand's National Artist of the Year 2009; Pinaree Sanpitak, one of the country’s most respected female artists of her generation; and Torlarp Larpjaroensook, whose work both challenges and intrigues. The hotel’s “Art Connection” quarterly rotating exhibit features the multi-media works of emerging Thai artists, launching with a showcase of oil paintings by Kittaya Poolsawatdi.

Ultra-Luxury Living

Rosewood Bangkok’s guestrooms fuse elegantly modern interiors with panoramic views of the metropolis. The hotel features 159 rooms including 34 suites and studios as well as three signature “houses” which also boast their own private pools and terraces.

Deluxe Rooms, starting at 42 square meters, have been thoughtfully designed to include a separate living area, creating a more residential experience; the property’s suite collection includes the loft-style Manor Suite, which features floor-to-ceiling and wall-to-wall windows offering an abundance of natural light and an unparalleled perspective on the dramatic Bangkok skyline –the quintessential stylish urban living experience.

The hotel has been designed to mirror the intimacy of the private home of a well-traveled Thai family, and all guest accommodations are enriched by books, art, accessories and personal touches seemingly collected by the family over the course of their travels.

The feel of an urban resort and a modern Thai aesthetic are delivered by tropical accents of rich woods and rattan - inspired patterns, weaves and panels, and pops of turquoise blue and emerald green against a calming backdrop of white, cream, brown and luxurious gold color tones.

The innovative design and architecture of Rosewood Bangkok has allowed the creation of unique rooms and suites throughout the entire property, with no two floors sharing the same configuration. Allowing for maximum flexibility, privacy and intimacy, floor plates range from one to a maximum of 12 rooms per floor, and the property also showcases a number of bespoke signature suites, studios and houses, which boast private meditation areas, terraces, outdoor plunge pools as special amenities.

Dynamic Dining and Stylish Libations

Rosewood Bangkok features four innovative restaurant and bars, including a brasserie, signature Chinese restaurant, top-floor speakeasy bar and the first upscale organic café situated in a Bangkok hotel.

Lakorn European Brasserie is an all-day dining venue where diners can gather indoors amidst an imaginative décor inspired by traditional Thai dance, or choose the outdoor terrace – an escape from the city in a quiet, serene and shady space adorned with greenery. Lakorn’s menu features light bites to mains that showcase classic Western dishes and beloved Thai specialties, accompanied by an extensive list of Old and New World wines.

Nan Bei , meaning South and North respectively in Mandarin, is Rosewood Bangkok’s landmark restaurant -- a buzzy, stylish destination for Chinese dining, offering authentic regional specialties from the two China regions, served both indoors and outdoors. Open kitchens are dedicated to preparation of popular Southern Chinese seafood dishes and world-famous Peking Duck. Nan Bei represents Rosewood’s signature flair of establishing contemporary and differentiated dining concepts, with Nan Beisure to become the“go to”hotspot amidst Bangkok’s dynamic restaurant scene.

Fanciful design touches are inspired by the lyrical Chinese folktale of the Weaver Girl and Cowherd. A custom-woven art feature stretches the length of the ceiling, in homage to the Weaver Girl who weaves clouds for the sky. A dazzling light installation of 600 illuminated birds in flight references characters in the tale. Two luxurious VIP private dining rooms complement the story with silk wall panels and mirrors referencing the mystical pond where the Weaver Girl and Cowherd first meet and fall in love.

Nan Bei’s bar sets a lavishly seductive mood in dark colors with pops of jewel tones, a lapis lazuli-topped bar, metalwork chandeliers and contemporized Art Deco features. Against this sensual backdrop, cheeky Asian-the medlibations include such clever hand-crafted cocktails as Claypot Tea Negroni, Yoghurt Pisco Sour with yoghurt sake and lychee, and My Thai with rum, tropical fruit, chili and curry leaves.

Lennon’s , a stylish speakeasy-style bar perched on the 30th and highest floor of Rosewood Bangkok, is home to the largest collection of vinyl records in Asia, with a concept inspired by the notion of a home-recording studio. Guests can choose from a 6,000-vinyl collection of jazz, pop, rock and blues, even buy a long-lost favorite, or just bring their favorite classic LPs from home for the DJ to spin on state-of-the-art sound equipment.

Accessible in true speakeasy style through a hidden entrance amidst the records in the foyer area, the city’s newest gathering place features hand-crafted cocktails themed to favorite musical genres of past decades against a backdrop of the glittering Bangkok cityscape. Reaching even further into the liquid past, the Old Time menu revives classic cocktails such as the Alexander, Tuxedo and Martini handcrafted with rare vintage spirits dating from the 1940s to 70s. For ultimate retro immersion, pre-Prohibition era spirits are available for sipping or purchase, and Cuban cigars from the age can be savored in the private cigar lounge.

G&O (“green and organic”) is Bangkok’s first upscale organic café set within a luxury hotel. Fittingly located just steps away from the outdoor pool, G&O brings the farm-to-table concept to life by offering a variety of creative healthy cuisine options with an emphasis on organic and locally grown and sourced natural ingredients, accompanied by hand and cold-pressed coffees and teas and organic wines.

The Serenity of Sense, A Rosewood Spa

Sense, A Rosewood Spa occupies the entire sixth floor. A welcoming and luxurious retreat for individuals seeking peace and tranquility, it offers a bespoke approach to personal well-being, drawing from the long heritage of Thailand’s healing culture.

Exquisite treatments revive ancient Thai beauty rituals and “lost remedies,” paired with the latest innovations from skincare lines EviDenS de Beauté and Maison Caulières. Three single and two double treatment rooms offer a getaway of serenity for rejuvenation, relaxation and the pursuit of well-being.

A Pool Oasis in the Heart of the City

The environs of Rosewood Bangkok’s indoor-outdoor saltwater lap pool create a zen-like sense of a tropical destination in the heart of the city. The hotel’s interior waterfall produces a soothing ambient sound that replaces city noise, a vertical garden wall is further enhanced with surrounding foliage, and a whirlpool overlooks the cityscape beyond.

Exclusive Settings for Special Gatherings

Rosewood Bangkok sets the stage for specially designed celebrations and exclusive meetings. The Pavilion – a Rosewood signature concept – is a 320-square-meter, high-end residential-style venue with show kitchen that can seat up to 200 persons. The 100-square-meter Ploenchit Boardroom is tailor-made for upscale, intimate meetings; flooded with natural light, it offers exhilarating views of the capital’s iconic skyline from its 28th-floor vantage point.

Introductory offers, including selections of hotel signature experiences, are available to 30 June 2019. “Redefining Bangkok” rates start from THB 9,450 and “Signature Suites Stay” from THB 17,550 per night, excluding tax and service charge, based on single or double occupancy and subject to availability.

The best hotel hospitality I have even seen. I have stay in many hotels in different cities, but honestly this hotel was the best hotel hospitality I even seen. Starting from check-in to check out. From the team in arrival area to the duty manager. It was my first time I visited Bangkok I love it and one of the main responses was this hotel. A generous hotel. Thank you Rosewood Hotel, B&B.

Location is convenient, bridge connecting the BTS station with direct adjacency. Staff is nice and professional. Room is very clean. And. Special thanks to Jasmine and other staff. All are very friendly and helpful, we also received a small cake for our wedding anniversary and a photo with frame, which is really sweet for such surprises. Their Spa is very good as well (which we didn’t expect it’s service is that good, compare with other similar hotel spa. This is one of the best given the bed and the treatment I have had really made us feel very comfortable and relaxed)

Forbes Travel Guide Stories

A Rosewood Hotels Insider Shares The Hottest Destinations In Asia By Forbes Travel Guide Editor Jennifer Kester

June 8, 2023

Rosewood Hong Kong

Since countries like Japan and China have lifted major travel restrictions, the Asia-Pacific region has rebounded as a popular destination for international visitors.

According to the International Air Transport Association , while international traffic overall has climbed 48 percent since April 2022, Asia-Pacific airlines have led the recovery, clocking a 192.7 percent increase during that time.

There are good reasons why people are booking those flights East. “Time certainly did not stand still while borders were closed,” said Radha Arora, president of Rosewood Hotels & Resorts . Arora pointed out that a lot has changed in these destinations over the past several years. Scroll down to see his recommendations on where to go, what to do and where to stay in Asia-Pacific.

Why should people travel to Hong Kong right now?

Hong Kong has always been a global epicenter of culture, dining and art, and the city’s reopening is beckoning international travelers back to rediscover the breathtaking treasures and experiences it has to offer. The city has really flourished and evolved over the last few years, with many new art, culture and luxury retail having opened their doors across the Victoria Dockside district and the larger neighborhood of West Kowloon, where our hotel Rosewood Hong Kong sits.

Art lovers and culture seekers visiting the destination will enjoy the new M + and Hong Kong Palace museums, as well as the new K11 Musea , which brings together public art, high-end retail, dining and entertainment. There are also new and revitalized waterfront promenades and parks, including West Kowloon Art Park and the Avenue of Stars promenade, both boasting amazing views of the harbor.

We consider Rosewood Hong Kong to be more than just a hotel but a destination in its own right. Like the city, the property too has grown tremendously over the last several years, and there are many new offerings we are excited to introduce to our guests, including the addition of five new dining concepts, expanded wellness experiences at Asaya , and an ever-growing collection of art adorning the entire property.

What makes Five-Star Rosewood Hong Kong special?

While each of the properties in our portfolio is held at equally high esteem, we have a special affinity for this hotel, set within the vibrant city that the brand calls home. We are grounded in the belief that our properties achieve true world-class status through their ability to seamlessly blend the history, culture and sensibilities of their host community with exceptional service, luxury accommodations and unparalleled attention to detail. Rosewood Hong Kong reflects this ideology, providing our guests with an unforgettable, deeply personal experience that is both authentically Rosewood and representative of this destination’s dynamism and allure.

Rosewood Hong Kong goes beyond what is expected of a hotel experience. Our 11 exquisite restaurants and lounges offer guests a wide range of delectable dining options, while our recreational facilities, including the pioneering urban wellness concept Asaya, allow guests to achieve the ultimate in well-being through a curated selection of restorative, tailor-made treatments and therapies. We recently launched a 360-degree clinical experience for skin health created by Dr. Barbara Sturm exclusively for Rosewood Hong Kong. We’re thrilled to be able to bring these unique offerings to our guests and local residents alike.

The property’s design is another point of pride for Rosewood. With architecture by Kohn Pedersen Fox, the 65-story building pays homage to the city’s impressive verticality, while interiors by Tony Chi of New York tonychi studio offer a complete and immersive experience for a new age of elevated residential luxury. The property is also home to one of Asia’s most lavish accommodation offerings, the expansive Harbour House. Located on the property’s 57th story overlooking Victoria Harbour, the suite is Asia’s largest and comes complete with an outdoor pool, a private gym and wraparound landscaped gardens.

Beyond its experiential and physical offerings, Rosewood Hong Kong is also representative of Rosewood’s commitment to positive impact and community support and is recognized as a resource for underserved communities and young people looking to break into careers in hospitality through a myriad of outreach programs.

What are the travel hot spots in Southeast Asia?

We are heartened to see the positive response from travelers to Southeast Asia since the region’s reopening. Thailand has long been a bucket list destination for many, and we are once again seeing high demand for travel experiences across Bangkok and Phuket. Laos is another destination attracting visitors from all over the world, with a new semi-high-speed rail service making travel across this destination even easier to navigate. Rosewood Luang Prabang, which opened in 2017 as the first property in our portfolio to offer luxury tented accommodations, is an ideal setting for those looking to immerse themselves in the best of the country’s rich culture and unspoiled natural surroundings.

While our current Southeast Asia collection includes Rosewood Bangkok, Rosewood Phuket, Rosewood Luang Prabang and Rosewood Phnom Penh, we are also readily assessing new opportunities in the destination and are excited about the future opening of Rosewood Hoi An in Vietnam.

What’s new at the Bangkok and Phnom Penh properties?

Rosewood Bangkok reopened last September with the unveiling of 17 new guest rooms, wellness studios, signature suites and “houses” that represent first-of-their-kind superlatives in the capital. The new houses feature expansive high-rise terraces with private plunge pools, state-of-the-art wellness facilities and uninterrupted views of the metropolitan skyline and lush nearby parks from floor-to-ceiling windows.

Rosewood Phnom Penh recently introduced several new food and beverage initiatives, including a Rosewood Bar Series in collaboration with The World’s 50 Best Bars, where guests can experience cocktails mixed by some of the best bartenders from around the world. The property also relaunched its partnership with Cambodian Cook and celebrity chef Rotanak Ros to present a new Khmer menu at Brasserie Louis.

What are Rosewood’s plans for Asia?

Asia continues to be an area of great importance for Rosewood as we continue to develop and execute our thoughtful growth strategy, and we are excited to continue to expand our footprint across this diverse and ever-evolving region. Most immediately, we are eagerly anticipating the upcoming opening of Rosewood Miyakojima in 2024, which will represent our first flag in Japan. The resort will boast 55 villa-style rooms with private pools, landscaped gardens and breathtaking sea views, with programming, design and culinary offerings that are representative of Okinawan culture and nature.

Just recently, we also announced Rosewood Ranfaru, which will open in 2027 as another first for the brand as we touch down in the ultimate dream destination — the Maldives .

On the branded residential side, last year we debuted plans for Rosewood Residences Kamala, a luxury standalone branded residential development being constructed on the west coast of Phuket, Thailand. The project will be comprised of 14 branded residences, ranging from one- to four-bedroom units.

Where are you traveling next?

I will be traveling to Hawaii this summer to experience the highly anticipated reopening of Kona Village, A Rosewood Resort. This is our first property in Hawaii and our team has been working tirelessly for years to build upon the original Kona Village Resort’s legacy and introduce an elevated hospitality experience that draws inspiration from the site’s history, local culture and natural surroundings.

We are thrilled to finally be opening the doors to this iconic Hawaiian hideaway and look forward to immersing our guests in all that the island has to offer. Hawaii also holds a special place in my heart as I spent a few years living and working on various islands, and the experience left me forever changed; so I look forward to returning home to ohana [“family”].
