The volcanic island of Jeju is often dubbed the ‘Hawaii of Korea’, and it is best known for its scenic natural wonders, from waterfalls and craters to underground tubes and volcanic rock formations.

These days, the enchanting island of Jeju has also built a reputation for being the go-to spot for romantic getaways and cafe hopping. The island even has a street dedicated to cafes , dubbed the Aewol cafe street .

It can be difficult deciding which Jeju cafe  to visit, but we’ve collated a list of different cafes, each with its own unique charm.

From villa-like seaside cafes overlooking the surrounding waters of Jeju island to cosy old warehouses with straw-thatched roofs, we’ve rounded up some of the best cafes in Jeju that will impress even the most discerning cafe aficionados.

These are the eleven cafes you have to hit when you’re there.

02 gh jeju cafes - Haejigae Cafe - HungryGoWhere

Why visit? Haejigae Cafe , which is Korean for “place where the sun goes down”, has a glass wall facing the seaside that guarantees patrons a breathtaking view – especially at sunset in clear weather.

It is located right in front of Handam Beach, with an outdoor seating area that stretches out into the beach.

View this post on Instagram A post shared by HungryGoWhere (@hungrygowhere)

And while Jeju has no shortage of sea-facing cafes, Haejigae Cafe stands out with its adorable and delicious pastries, as well as its Hanok-inspired (traditional Korean house) interior. If you aren’t a fan of sitting on the floor with cushions old-school style, Haejigae Cafe also has sofa seats at its compound.

Prince range: $

Crowd favourites: The bakes at Haejigae Cafe tend to sell out quickly, so patrons recommend heading down early. Its strawberry brioche (5,500 won or S$5.60) and tangerine bread (5,500 won) are some popular favourites, though it depends on your preference. For drinks, we’d suggest going for the signature black sesame latte or mugwort latte (9,000 won each).

South Korea, Jeju-do, Seogwipo-si, 특별자치도, Seongsan-eup, Ojo-ri, 394 KR Open: Thursday to Tuesday (10.30am to 7pm)

03 gh jeju cafes - Latte - Orrrn Cafe - HungryGoWhere

Why visit? Oleun , more widely known as Orrrn Cafe, encapsulates the idea of industrial-minimalism perfectly in its architecture. The nondescript bare concrete exterior of the building is meant to blend in with Jeju’s natural surroundings by mimicking an Oreum (gentle hills created by the island’s volcanic activity).

The cafe is huge, consisting of two levels. When climbing higher up the building, the ocean slowly unveils itself, revealing a picturesque view of the sea.

Crowd favourites: As the cafe only sells drinks and pastries, we recommend only visiting for desserts or teatime. The Orn latte (8,500 won) is a sweet latte made with Udo (a small island near Jeju known for its peanuts) peanut cream. For pastries, the ice cream cruffin (6,800 won) is well-received as well.

25 Aewol-ro 1-gil, Aewol-eup, 특별자치도, Jeju-si, Jeju-do, South Korea Open: Monday to Sunday (9am to 9.30pm)

04 gh jeju cafes - Bomnal Cafe - HungryGoWhere

Price Range: $

Crowd favourites: As Jeju is famous for its Hallabong tangerines, give Bomnal Cafe’s Hallabong ade (orange sparkling drink; 7,000 won) or Hallabong tea (6,500 won) a try. If you’re looking for light bites, it also sells honey butter toast (6,000 won) and other cakes, though these tend to sell out quickly due to the cafe’s popularity.

141 Sanbang-ro, Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do, South Korea Open: Monday to Sunday (9am to 8pm)

05 gh jeju cafes - One and Only Cafe - HungryGoWhere

Price Range: $$

Crowd favourites: The menu at One and Only Cafe tends to be slightly more expensive because of its fame and scenic backdrop. Try more unique items that can only be found at the cafe, such as the Sanbang Mountain Cake (12,000 won), a chocolate pound cake dessert, or an iced coconut latte (10,000 won).

22 Ilgwadaesu-ro 27beon-gil, Daejeong-eup, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do, South Korea Open: Monday to Sunday (11.30am to 7.30pm)

Why visit? In’s Mill has a rustic appeal accentuated by its charming straw roof and bare and raw interiors. The cafe is housed in a refurbished storage warehouse that has been around since the 1950s. It sports a uniquely different concept from the cafes above, as In’s Mill pays homage to Jeju’s culture by featuring old pottery, tools and art.

Crowd favourites: One of its most unique offerings is its barley. The cafe mills locally grown barley on its grounds and creates drinks such as its borigaeyuk (barley drink; 6,000 won) or barley green tea (6,000 won) blend.

In’s Mill also offers barley-based desserts such as the barley and chrysanthemum bread (3,000 won) or its barley ice cream (7,000 won).

Why visit? This tangerine cafe in Jeju is the embodiment of the cottagecore aesthetic. The Cafe Tangerine Flower Attic is a squat one-storey building with stone walls and lots of greenery surrounding it. While it doesn’t look like much from the outside, the inside houses an amalgamation of items that come together to create a cosy, homely atmosphere.

Crowd favourites: Take a hint from the cafe’s name and order any of these beverages that make use of the tangerine fruit Jeju is famed for. These include the tangerine latte , tangerine ade (7,000 won each) or tangerine tea (6,000 won). Cafe Tangerine Flower Attic has a green tangerine ade (7,000 won) and tea (6,000 won), too, which you don’t see at other cafes in Jeju .

For desserts, the cafe recommends its green tangerine rare cheesecake (6,800 won).

12 gh jeju cafes - Cafe the Container - HungryGoWhere

Why visit? You can’t miss Cafe the Container , thanks to the giant orange-coloured basket sitting atop its building. Crowd favourites: Have the freshest mandarin orange juice (7,000 won) while you’re visiting the cafe or try its mandarin cream latte (7,000 won) which is popular even among the locals. This Jeju cafe does serve some mandarin orange-based desserts, but it will depend on what’s available.

This place has attracted a lot of diners with the wonderful architecture between nature and modern and the panoramic view of the deep blue ocean.

Will be a Whale Cafe

Will be a Whale Cafe (1)

If you are looking for a cafe spot in Jeju that looks rustic but no less personality, then Will be a Whale will take you to experience a “tropical” and interesting. Pursuing Bohemianism, the combination of everyday life and abstract, both intimate and confusing, is what this Jeju cafe offers at first sight.

jeju must visit cafe

Perhaps because of the architecture style and comfortable space, diners here are also very friendly, so don’t be afraid to “chat” if you’re interested in any “whale” here.

Because it is not promoted, the majority of visitors are Korean, and the restaurant is not overcrowded, so you should practice using body language before visiting.

Will be a Whale Cafe (1)

In some unlucky cases, the owner can “leave the shop” and travel at any time without notice. So you should also check the dates and “divination” before you go.

Best Jeju Cafe: Bomnal Café

bomnal cafe jeju (1)

Bomnal is a well-known filming location that has appeared in a number of Korean films. The shop is right next to the beach and has a strikingly beautiful design, as well as adorable puppies who always greet customers. Bomnal’s food and drink have been praised for having a very fresh flavor, with the restaurant’s most popular menu items being Hallabong Ade and Bomnal Strawberry. However, because Bomnal is extremely crowded even on weekdays and in the winter, you will have to wait a little longer to enjoy the drinking water and romantic space here.

5 Stunningly Beautiful Cafes you must visit in Jeju

5 Stunningly Beautiful Cafes you must visit in Jeju

During my short summer trip to Jeju, it so happened to be rainy and gloomy for most of the days, so I decided to explore some beautiful beachfront cafes. Coffee and cafes are a huge part of Korean culture. Their love for coffee and tasty beverages has led to so many cafes springing that they strive to differentiate themselves in experiences, taste, and design. Each cafe has its charm and ambiance. Here are some of the beautiful cafes I visited and would recommend you visit to take a break from your adventures and travels while in Jeju.

One and Only – “We will be one and only.”

Beachfront cafe with mountain view and the back

Located in the South, this picturesque cafe/pub has an incredible view of the beach and Sanbang mountain at the back. We accidentally found it on our drive to Hey Brother; we decided to check it out on our way back. The café gives a modern and beachy atmosphere; the inside is beautifully decorated with wooden chairs and comfy sofas for a homey feeling. Besides, it has plenty of relaxing hammock-like chairs on the outside and a spacious rooftop overlooking the sea and the mountain.

Beautiful rooftop cafe in Jeju

On the menu, you can have a fast meal to go with your drink. Meals are abit pricey, costing between 15,000 – 18,000 Korean won. However, one meal is big enough to be shared between two people. Are you vegetarian? Don’t worry you will find something on the menu. We had the deliciously made chicken burger with chips and relaxed at the rooftop terrace, after which we took a long stroll at the beach. Your Jeju trip will not be complete without visiting One and Only.

Chicken burger with chips

Location:  141 Sanbang-ro, Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do

Opening Hours:  Sunday – Sunday, 09:00 – 21:00

Beachfront cafes in Korea

Hey Brother

jeju must visit cafe

A Cool and trendy cafe/pub with a beautiful view of Sagye beach. The cafe is spacious enough with a large terrace at the front perfect for an evening hangout overlooking the sea. The spacious rooftop – also the best spot in the cafe gives you an elevated view of the coastal area and the beach. We visited this cafe on a weekday (Monday), so it was not so crowded. The online reviews mentioned the cafe serves both beverages and food; however, they didn’t have any food options on the menu, which was a disappointment since we were looking forward to their fish and chips dish. However, they have a wide selection of beer options in addition to their signature Americano with Lemon (Lemonicano).

Location:  72 Hyeongjehaean-ro, Andeok-myeon, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do

Opening Hours:  Monday –Sunday 9:30 – 22:00

Cafe Aewol Montesant

Beachfront cafe in Jeju, must visit cafe in Jeju

Aewol Montesant is located only 41 minutes away from Jeju city and is a must-visit for anyone looking for a stunning view of the coastline. It is famously known as the G Dragon’s cafe after its rumored owner G Dragon, a member of popular Kpop group Big bang. At the café, you will have a broad view of the clear blue ocean waters contrasting on a black-rock coastline. The interior of the cafe is stylish with a woody and relaxed atmosphere. The outer glass wall reflects perfectly with the clear blue waters and sky with a more dramatic effect during the sunset. The combination of the rocky wall and woody-like shade gives off a mixture of urban and earthy feeling. Given the vast space, it is a beautiful place to enjoy the cool breeze while practicing social distancing.

The menu, however, is abit limited with a couple of drinks ranging from tea, coffees, cold drinks, and snacks. I found the prices to be on the higher end with just an okay service.

Beautifulcafes in Korea

Since its quite a distance from Jeju city, the best and most convenient way to reach Montesat cafe would be by car; there is a nearby packing right at the back of the cafe that will cost you approximately 2,000KRW per 2 hours.

Location:  Jeju-si, Aewol-eup, Aewol-ri 2546 (제주특별자치도 제주시 애월읍 애월리 2546)

Opening Hours:  Sunday to Sunday 10:00 – 19:50

Cafe's overlooking the ocean in Jeju

Some of the other places you can explore while in the neighborhood include:

Picnic themed cafe in Jeju

As we explored the area, we discovered Palmpane, a picnic-themed cafe providing a food basket and a cloth/mat to sit outside right under the huge palm trees while enjoying the view from the sea. If seating outside is not for you, the cafe has a spacious and carefully decorated interior. From decorations to the designs, this cafe’s concept is Instagram-worthy for those looking for instagrammable places to visit. The menu includes beverages and pastries, all at reasonable prices. It gets quite busy in the summer, so the outside seating provides a pleasant atmosphere and the ability to hold a decent conversation without all the noise that may come from sitting inside.

Location:  2527-3, aewol-ri, Aewol-eup, Jeju-si, Jeju-do  ( 제주특별자치도 제주시 애월읍 애월로1길 24-9)

Opening Hours:  Monday to Sunday 10:00 – 22:00 (Last Order 19:20)

Bomnal Cafe

Beautiful cafe in Jeju Overlooking the Ocean

We also briefly visited cafe Bamnal, located on your way to Montessat cafe, and a little closer to the sea than the other two cafes. The colorfully painted exterior will catch your eye from afar with an outside patio that allows you to experience the sea breeze and enjoy the view of people kayaking in the distance at Handam beach. Unfortunately, we didn’t have time to get inside Bomnal cafe and try out what is on the menu.

Location:  Jeju-do, Jeju-si, Aewol-eup, 애월리 2540

Opening Hours:  Monday to Sunday, 9:00 – 21:00

The Best Cafes on Jeju Island in South Korea

If South Korea does one thing right, it’s the cafes. There are so many different themed cafes and each of them is so unique. Even on a small island like Jeju, you have hundreds of different amazing cafes to choose from. You’ll find so many quirky themed cafes, plenty with amazing ocean views, and some that are just perfect for Instagram photo ops! These are all of the best cafes on Jeju Island that you should add to your South Korea bucket list immediately!

The Best Cafes on Jeju Island

Lazy Pump Cafe on Jeju Island, South Korea - Lost With Jen

Lazy Pump is by far my favorite cafe on Jeju Island. It has an old industrial feel with a few super cute modern touches. It’s situated right on the west coast of the island with perfect ocean views. There are even lounge chairs outside of the cafe where you can sit and enjoy the views along with your drink! I highly recommend the cherry berry smoothie – it was delicious!

Cafe Cola in South Korea - Lost With Jen

If you like Coca-Cola, you’ll love this one! Cafe Cola Coffee & Coke is an entirely Coke-themed cafe with some amazing decor and, of course, desserts! My favorite thing about this cafe is that it’s located right by the water and surrounded by some incredible statues and mural walls. After you place your order you can head out onto the terrace and enjoy the great views!

Innisfree House

Innisfree House in South Korea - Lost With Jen

The Innisfree House cafe is located inside the O’Sulloc tea fields along with a couple of other cafes. Make sure you try the Halla Mountain cake while you’re here! It’s a green tea cake shaped like the volcano and you even get to pour your own lava (icing) and rocks (cookie crumbles) over the cake for the full experience! It’s not cheap (10,000 KRW for one cake) but it’s shareable so definitely worth it. The tangerine iced tea is really good as well; you have to try some drinks made with local tangerines while you’re on Jeju!

15) Marvel at the Natural Wonders of Mount Hallasan

Girl at Mount Hallasan - Things to do in Korea

At 1,950m above sea level, Mount Hallasan is the highest mountain in South Korea. The mountain has a unique ecosystem and is home to all sorts of vegetation and wildlife.

There are seven hiking trails available but only two trails — Seongpanak and Gwaneumsa — lead to the summit of the mountain, where the crater lake is located.

For beginners, the Seongpanak trail is the more manageable option. It’s 9.7km in length but the incline is gradual. Once you’re at the top, we suggest hiking down the summit via the Gwaneumsa trail (8.7km) which offers a more scenic route.

The total hike takes around 6-8 hours, but trust me, it’s the perfect nature getaway!

*Note: Hikers who wish to climb to the summit of Hallasan Mountain using the Seongpanak and Gwaneumsa trails must first make a reservation online.

Entrance Fee: Free Opening Hours: 5AM (May – Aug), 6AM (Sep – Apr), varies depending on season. Check the opening schedule of Hallasan National Park before going Address: 2070-61 1100(Cheonbaek)-ro, Jeju-si, Jeju-do, South Korea

Pro-tips for planning your trip around Jeju Island

Car Drone Shot Jeju - Things to do in Jeju

There are lots to see, eat and do in Jeju so if you’re planning a trip to this scenic island, here are some pro-tips:

Public transport: Jeju has an islandwide public bus service — which allows you to immerse in local culture. A one-way ticket on either the intercity buses, airport shuttles or tourist shuttle buses costs around ₩1,200 (~S$1.30). The fare is cheap but the journey and interval timings can be long.

Car Rental: Since there were 4 of us, we decided to rent a car via Klook . For 6 days, a standard sedan car cost S$300, which means it’s only S$75/pax when you travel in a group of 4!

Private Charter: For non-drivers, you can opt for a Jeju private car charter for the freedom and flexibility to plan your own itinerary. The car charter can be booked for an 8-hour duration between 8AM and 10PM, and you’ll be able to cover around four to five attractions a day!

Pre-booking Jeju Activities

Shinhwa Theme Park - Things to do in Korea

Activities: Most of the activities we wanted to experience were available on Klook , which meant we didn’t have to comb through individual Korean websites to find out what each experience included. At many popular attractions, it actually costs less on Klook than purchasing on the spot!

Those looking for a quick way of touring the island can also purchase Jeju Island Day Tours via Klook for an adventure-packed day.

Shot in Jeju - Things to do in Jeju

Just an hour’s flight from Seoul, this volcanic island is the perfect paradise for nature lovers. We experienced its stunning beaches, explored scenic hiking trails, and met incredible locals like the Haenyeo women divers. Beyond the great outdoors, we also got to explore different museums and feast on local delicacies all around the island!

Flying to Jeju will also be easier as Scoot commences direct flights from Singapore to Jeju from 15 June 2022 ✈️

With excursions for both the young and old, chill and adventurous, it is no wonder that Jeju makes the perfect island getaway!

Jeju Island

The island is particularly famous for its King Cherry Trees, which have the largest blossoms and are reputed to bloom so intensely that the branches seem to be covered in snow.
