Prodigy theory: the series ship will be uss voyager's missing aeroshuttle.

With the announcement that the new animated children's TV series Star Trek: Prodigy will take place in the Delta Quadrant some years after the USS Voyager visited, and that Captain Janeway's part in the series will be in the form of an emergency training hologram, it starts to get one wondering: What is this Starfleet ships the young alien crew the series is about are going to take command of, and how did a holographic Janeway find herself installed there? Well one idea springs to my mind: The Aeroshuttle!

The what? For those unfamiliar: The Aeroshuttle is one of those almost forgotten ideas you sometimes get in TV production, a concept brewed up early on in development of the series, but never called upon by the needs of the plot. It is a distinctive smallcraft attached to the underside of the USS Voyager's saucer section, in much the same way the captain's yacht is on the USS Enterprise-E.

voyager captain's yacht

  • Maybe Voyager never actually had an Aeroshuttle; maybe it's port on the saucer was just placeholder hull panel awaiting arrival of the shuttle that could never happen once Voyager got lost.
  • Maybe it was there but not quite complete and operational by the time Voyager launched, and the crew never got round to fixing it up to be used - Although they did seem to repair, rebuild, and build anew plenty of other shuttles, not least two Delta Flyers!
  • Maybe it was damaged in an early unseen adventure, and never repaired.
  • Maybe the Voyager crew cannibalised parts from the Aeroshuttle to fix Voyager or the other shuttlecraft, leaving it unusable.
  • Maybe it was deemed too risky to potentially leave a vulnerable gap in Voyager's hull should anything ever happen to the Aeroshuttle while away from the mothership, so they just kept it in place forever.

To learn more about the Aeroshuttle, you really can't do better than Eaglemoss's model and magazine (ad) , as the magazine fills in some in-universe backstory for the ship, and a full account of it's real-world origins. Plus you get a little model ship!

Could well be. How is otherwise possible for a Starfleet ship to actually be in the Delta Quadrant?

This is a very interesting breakdown off all possibilities, I totally forgot about the ships in "Life Line"

voyager captain's yacht

Eh, could be many things. Startfleet's experimental slipstream drive ship, accidental transwarp travel, went through the Barzan wormhole or an Iconian gateway. Star Trek has tons of stuff that can explain "Prodigy" in one sentence ;)

When Kirk was promoted, Enterprise was given to training duty. Perhaps when Janeway became admiral, the beaten, well-traveled Voyager was given the same duty for local, casual light duty. Each deck fitted with holo-emitters. With whatever reason the bridge kids find themselves alone with the ship, they could very well find themselves on Voyager, with a holo Janeway to guide them.

I just can't wait slightly hopin it's a larger ship though tbh, can't wait for all new Trek tbh😍🤩🖖🏽

Im tired of this franchise rehashing old themes and old characters. Going back in time instead of moving forward. Discovery was a stretch with that ships tech. Tech unheard of in any other star trek series. Unimaginable tech with its spore drive? Going back in time again back to the klingon wars. Picard to me was also a disappointment. There os one quargent in the galaxy that is still unexplored. The beta quargent other galaxies. A new ship, evolution, with all the tech from the other quargents we have explored already. This ship has an advanced cloke. Borg resistant armour and torpedos from the delta quadrant. Jemadar firepower from the gamma quadrant. Space folding speed and time displayment detection from alpha quadrant. Commanded by Francis picard nefhew of jean luc.

Screen Rant

Star trek brings back voyager’s delta flyer & captain picard’s yacht.

Star Trek: Lower Decks' Ensign Rutherford brings back the Delta Flyer and the Captain's Yacht, two of the coolest ships in the franchise.

Warning: SPOILERS for Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 3, Episode 5 - "Reflections"

The mysterious origins of Ensign Samathan Rutherford's (Eugene Cordero) implant allowed Star Trek: Lower Decks to bring back two of the coolest ships in Starfleet, the Delta Flyer and the Captain's Yacht. Rutherford's implant has malfunctioned since Star Trek: Lower Decks season 1, and the Ensign's body was taken over by his previous, more aggressive and rebellious personality, which was eliminated when Rutherford received his implant. The sides of Rutherfords' psychic battle for dominance led to a spectacular race across the Romulan Neutral Zone , and the return of Star Trek: Voyager ' s Delta Flyer as well as the USS Cerritos' Captain's Yacht.

The Delta Flyer was a new shuttlecraft-sized starship unique to Star Trek: Voyager that became a signature vehicle of the series alongside the USS Voyager itself. Designed by Lt Tom Paris (Robert Duncan McNeil), the Delta Flyer was built as a more versatile and powerful support ship that was more maneuverable and effective than Voyager's class 2 shuttles in the increasingly hostile Delta Quadrant. Thanks to Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan), the Delta Flyer was also equipped with Borg weaponry including photonic missiles. The original Delta Flyer was destroyed during an encounter with the Borg, but Voyager 's crew constructed a second Delta Flyer with even more bells and whistles. Meanwhile, the Captain's Yacht was a warp-capable support craft for the use of starship Captains that was first seen in Star Trek: Insurrection , although the USS Enterprise-D also had a Captain's Yacht.

Related: Star Trek Shows The Other Side Of First Contact's Coolest Scene

In Star Trek: Lower Decks season 3, episode 5, "Reflections," the original Rutherford tried to escape capture by Lt. Shax (Fred Tatasciore) by beaming into the USS Cerritos' Captain's Yacht. However, he was still apprehended and brought to Dr. T'Ana's (Gillian Vigman) Sickbay. In their shared psyche, the original Rutherford persona challenged Ensign Rutherford to a dangerous race across the Romulan Neutral Zone , with the winner gaining ownership of their body. Ensign Rutherford built himself a Delta Flyer for himself and simulations of his fellow Lower Deckers to pilot while the original Rutherford built a sleek, Star Trek equivalent of a Star Wars-like podracer. In the end, Ensign Rutherford's Delta Flyer won the race. It's also curious that Samanthan claimed he "always wanted" a Delta Flyer; the USS Voyager only returned to Earth a couple of years before Star Trek: Lower Decks began, but Rutherford must have quickly learned about the Delta Flyer and craved building one of his own.

Why Star Trek Rarely Uses The Captain's Yacht

The Captain's Yacht is a rarely seen vessel even though one is equipped in the USS Enterprise-E and other starships . Surprisingly, support-level starships like the California -class USS Cerritos also have a Captain's Yacht. Star Trek: The Next Generation had a Captain's Yacht docked beneath the saucer of the USS Enterprise-D all throughout the series, but it was never utilized. In truth, the Captain's Yacht has to serve a story purpose in a given Star Trek TV series or movie, and it wasn't until Star Trek: Insurrection that they could justify using the Captain's Yacht. Ultimately, the ship was destroyed when Lt. Commander Data (Brent Spiner) piloted it in a battle against the Son'a.

Star Trek: Voyager 's Delta Flyer is a welcome sight in Star Trek: Lower Decks , and it continues the animated comedy's many shout-outs to the beloved 1990s Star Trek series. Lt. Tom Paris himself appeared in Star Trek: Lower Decks season 2, and the season 3 premiere updated Trekkers on the whereabouts of Commander Tuvok (Tim Russ). In the future, perhaps Ensign Rutherford will be able to build his own Delta Flyer in real life the way he did in his mindscape, and Star Trek: Lower Decks will show the USS Cerritos' Captain's Yacht in action as well.

Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 3 streams Thursdays on Paramount+.

What if Voyager didn't have its aeroshuttle?

Discussion in ' General Trek Discussion ' started by Sumghai , Aug 23, 2012 .

As an Intrepid-class vessel, Voyager had under its primary saucer the unmistakable outline of a Captain's Yacht-like shuttlecraft - what Doug Drexler dubbed the Aeroshuttle / AeroWing - and would presumably have reused the Danube Runabout interior from DS9. However, it was never utilized in the shows, especially with the introduction of the Delta Flyer(s) in later seasons. If, for some reason, these Aeroshuttles were decommissioned fleetwide and there wasn't going to be a Captain's Yacht for the Intrepid-class, what would go in its old spot instead? I'm pondering this as I have recently downloaded a 3DS Max mesh for the Intrepid-class, and am thinking of retexturing it to remove the Aeroshuttle.

I think that when Voyager departed Mars that the Areoshuttle was, for some reason, unavailable. And what the Voyager actually had was basically a "plug," to occupy that space, and make Voyager's underside aerodynamic in case she had to enter a atmosphere. Alternatively, again the shuttle was missing, and what we were seeing was the sliding hatch/hatches that closed when the shuttle was on a mission, the hatch would make it so the Voyager could land without the shuttle in place. The intention was to eventually equip the ship with the shuttle.

^^That's basically the rationalization that has since been provided in the novels for why we never saw the aeroshuttle.

They could probably install/build a good-sized swimming pool in there, or perhaps a "Hypothermia Relief Chamber" (sauna). Cheers, -CM-

I'd like to have something ugly down there, to highlight the fact that this is a change of plans, a last minute addition, and to create contrast with the otherwise smooth lines of the ship. I'm weird like that. So, perhaps a protruding quantum torpedo turret á la E-E, a clumsy and unwieldy weapon that might end up being more trouble than worth. Or another type of deployable craft, but this time an uncrewed model - a Transformer-like, clickety-clack robotic device that would unfold after deployment into... Well, perhaps a floating observatory to be left behind at an interesting spot? Or a complex planetary survey base that soft-lands on a moon or an asteroid. Timo Saloniemi

Well as we all know that type of thing gets installed on a Tuesday. But too feature it would cost money, a new CGI model of Voyager would have to be created or an existing one modified. a New CGI model of the Aeroshuttle would have to be created. Which all cost money. The writers no doubt simply forgot it was there. As for why the plug might have hull markings etc, perhaps to disguise the fact that it isn't there.
The Wormhole said: ↑ In the case of the Captain's Yacht on the Enteprise D, there never was a need to explain why it wasn't seen. With the aeroshuttle they kind of do need to explain why they spent an entire episode decoted to building their own scout ship, and even went to the trouble of building another one when it was destroyed when a perfectly good scout ship should have been sitting lodged in the hull. So, "it wasn't there" is as good as anything. Click to expand...

Since there was no one on the show saying anything about the captain's yacht/aero shuttle, there is no canon information saying it isn't there in the first place. I am reading on here about people saying 'back stage' or 'someone from the show said it' but technically that isn't canon for Trek so as far as Voyager is concerned, that little old shuttle was there at DS9 at the beginning of the show and all the writers forgot about it for the entire show run.

NEW 2024 T-2000 Voyager. 20m High performance, long range blue water explorer catamaran revealed.

voyager captain's yacht

The T-2000 ‘VOYAGER’ is a Safehaven Marine designed high speed, long range, blue water explorer catamaran. Its main design remit was for a vessel providing the best efficiency, economy and range in its size bracket at higher cruising speeds circa 30-40kts, but also be equally efficient and economical at lower planning and semi-planning speeds right down to displacement speeds, and to be capable of, due to her large fuel capacity of an extremely long range at these speeds: (1,000nm+ at 30kts and 1,700nm at 16kts and over 3,000nm at 9-10kts). As such Voyager is capable of crossing the Atlantic Ocean non-stop. The T-2000 Voyager perfectly fulfils the role of an ‘Explorer’ yacht and will appeal to an owner looking to explore remote and occasionally inhospitable locations but who, on occasion wishes to get there fast and take advantage of favourable weather windows, but not at the sacrifice of comfort and excitement.

voyager captain's yacht

Combining potentially a very high speed capability of well over 50kts when fitted with the largest engine options, with exceptionally good seakeeping abilities enabling high cruising speeds of circa 30kts+ to be maintained in even moderately rough sea conditions. Blue water cruising can inevitably mean bad weather is encountered simply due to the long distances involved, and when encountered a true blue water yacht must be able to deal with such situations. Drawing upon Safehaven Marines 25 years of experience in building commercial all weather pilot, S.A.R. and patrol craft, Voyager is capable of true ‘all weather’ operation. The design also draws from Safehaven’s experience in setting multiple UIM World long distance speed records: In 2021 Safehaven set a World record in their XSV20 demonstrator Thunder Child II for crossing the inhospitable North Atlantic from Ireland to Iceland, an 862nm voyage at an average speed of 30kts. As such Voyager will be well able to deal with hard weather, and able to safely weather a storm at sea and do so in comfort, as the interior design incorporates a high degree of luxury in its fit out and will be equally at home cruising and entertaining in the Mediterranean.

Below: A couple of examples of Safehaven’ Marines more than 150 all weather commercial vessels, an Interceptor 48 and HMS Magpie built for the Royal Navy, together with the UIM World record setting private motoryacht XSV20 Thunder Child II

Hull Design. The T-2000 Voyager features hydrofoil supported symmetrical semi-wave piercing hulls that combine an inverted bow with traditional topside flare. The inverted bow provides a very fine waterline entry to cut through waves but also maximises waterline length, thereby increasing its displacement hull speed and corresponding efficiency whilst the topside flare keeps the boat dry, throwing spray clear. The bridge deck is terminated 3.5m from the bows to eliminate the possibility of waves slamming on the bridge deck in large steep head seas when inevitably forced to slow down, (traditionally the Achilles heel of catamaran designs). Additionally the bridge deck to waterline clearance is substantial, being a minimum of 1m at the transom in order to prevent wave impact on the bridge deck. Overall the visual design of T-2000 is very graceful being exceptionally sleek, far removed from the typical boxy looks of most catamarans and in side profile has the looks of a sports monohull yacht. A hydrofoil is optionally incorporated which improves efficiency at higher speeds by as much as 20% with little low speed penalty, lifting the hull out of the water at speeds over 20kts reducing drag and resistance. Its design and position being optimised through CFD, as were the hulls spacing which, at a 6.2m beam proved optimum for wake interaction, and 6.2m, (which could be considered moderate for its length) provided the best compromise between static stability and dynamic behaviour in waves. The moderate beam eliminates the sometimes uncomfortable motion very wide beam cats can have in a seaway on certain courses, whereas the T-2000 in essence rides like a monohull that doesn’t roll or yaw in beam and following seas, or slam in head seas. Its moderate beam also makes the T-2000 ‘marina friendly’.

Being fully custom built Voyager can be specified with a range of engines and propulsion systems. Alternative propulsion systems such as Volvo IPS, Waterjets and conventional shaft drive are available where still very fast maximum speeds of circa 40kts are adequate.

With an L.O.A. of 20m the Performance of Voyager for her size is extremely impressive. The first of class being powered by a pair of MAN V12 1,550hp engines and Twin Disc MGX5146A gearboxes with surface drive propulsion from a pair of France Helices SD5 drives. Surface drives were chosen as they provide the best efficiency at higher cruise speeds (circa 35-40kts), and the surface drives props are vented for smooth low speed operation. A maximum speed of well over 50kts makes her one of the fastest boats of her size around, comprehensively fulfilling the ‘high performance’ brief and providing excitement in abundance, yet the design almost uniquely also offers ‘Trawler style yacht’ range and ocean crossing capabilities. Close quarters manoeuvring is assisted by large and powerful twin bow thrusters and twin stern thrusters incorporating ‘variable speed’ capability, allowing the vessel to be held against the quay or marina whilst being tied up or cast off, a real advantage when short-handed or mooring in adverse conditions. The powerful thrusters combined with the gearboxes ‘Quick shift’ low speed function ensure the T-2000 is very easy to operate when berthing.

The RIB is stored very securely high above the waterline for safety in heavy weather. A forward lounging area with removable cushions and table is situated in a well deck quickly drained through the bridge deck by two large 4” scuppers, allowing the well area to be cleared of water in 8 seconds. Each bow is fitted with an anchor and windlass (two anchors for safety) and a bridle system. Large anchor lockers also provide a storage area for fenders, warps etc with the st/bd compartment also housing a workshop. Stern to mooring is assisted by two capstans at the transom quarters and a Hydraulic extending Besenzoni Passerelle fitted to the transom.

voyager captain's yacht

A flybridge is accessed from the aft deck via a substantial stainless steel ladder with wide teak steps and hand rail. The flybridge incorporates a two seat helm position, the console being electrically adjustable for height allowing a sporty low seating position for helming underway, but can be raised 50cm to allow standing at the helm when undertaking close quarters docking manoeuvres. A large ‘U’ shaped seating area with a table allows for comfortable lounging and entertaining underway. Each hull incorporates a large dive platform. The aft, side decks and forward decks as well as the flybridge are laid in teak and holy synthetic decking for low maintenance and durability with the side, foredeck and aft deck areas being enclosed by railings .8-1m, high ensuring all deck areas are safely accessed by the crew. The first of class T-2000 is fitted with a valved exhaust system, incorporating by-pass valves allowing switching between watertrap silencers for quite running or straight through, allowing the exhaust note from her V12 engines to be appreciated when offshore emitting a fantastic exhaust sound befitting her extreme performance.

90m Voyager: First Fully-Integrated Superyacht

By George Bains

The largest project ever undertaken in the 30 year history of Florida-based Voyager Maritime Alliance Group (VMAG) has been completed. Following a three year conversion from a commercial vessel, the custom 90m M/Y Voyager has been unveiled in Fort Lauderdale and becomes the first fully-integrated ocean-going superyacht, boasting some impressive unique innovations.

Before her christening as M/Y Voyager, the superyacht was known simply as ‘The Big Project’, which accurately sums up how she is regarded by those at VMAG. President of VMAG, David Leone, spoke of the scale of the refit operation. “ Very little was left untouched throughout the vessel,” said Leone, “ so it was crucial to manage each section of the refit, in the right order, to avoid any delays and additional costs. ”

M/Y Voyager’s refit brings an unprecedented level of automated technology fitted around the superyacht, which is not only aesthetically pleasing but ensures a seamless running of the vessel. “ I am particularly proud to create the first ever entire superyacht vessel integration, with over 3.000 monitored points, ” commented David Leone. “ That was some achievement! This means that anywhere on the vessel there are access points that can monitor any type of activity .”

Such holistic visibility of all on-board systems allows the Captain to have complete control no matter where he may be on the yacht. Voyager benefits from unique integrated video switching, using laser detection sensors and high grade analytic cameras to record activity. Touch-screen consoles are then fed real-time analytical data to allow any necessary actions to be deployed and corrected immediately. Multiple glass touch-screen panels grace the yacht’s bridge, and enhance usability of the control systems to manage the vessel.

For the team at VMAG, this has been a monumental project successfully executed. Leone added that “ with our team of technical engineers, I knew we could accomplish this particularly complex project .” Having successfully completed Voyager’s conversion, the company are now aiming to take on projects of a similar complexity and scale.

Reading between the lines following the launch of the first fully-integrated luxury yacht, one can deduce a prevalent trend of technological innovations in the industry. While Voyager is a trailblazer for integrated superyachts, advancements in technology are revolutionising all areas of the industry, notably being put to use to develop eco-friendly yachting .

90m Voyager completes three year conversion

The 90 metre explorer Voyager has finally completed its conversion after three years in construction.

Previously known as Danah Voyager , the yacht arrived at Dania Cut, Florida in April 2016 to begin a three year conversion from a supply ship into an explorer superyacht. She now ranks as the largest superyacht conversion ever in the USA.

Originally built by US yard Swiftships and launched in 1997 as Candy Trader, her initial LOA was 63 metres when she first operated as a supply ship for commercial works. She was re-named HOS Trader in July 2003, when she was used as an offshore supply ship.

The first part of her conversion began in January 2015. This work included a redesign of her superstructure and lengthening of her hull, as well as a 12.12 metre mid-body extension. She now measures 91.4 metres. Other major steel work was also completed, when a larger bathing platform and helipad were added to the vessel. The work was undertaken by Gulf Islands Shipyards in Houma, Louisiana.

The hull of  Voyager  was then shipped to Fort Lauderdale, where fitting out was completed at Dania Cut. This included repowering and the installation of new generators.

The interiors were believed to be split between two separate contractors, with one working on the guest cabins and another dedicated to the crew quarters. The five-deck explorer has the capacity to house up to 70 crew.

Other key features include multiple galleys, pantries and media rooms, as well as a deep dive centre — one of the primary purposes of this explorer yacht.

At the bridge, a customised console designed by VMAG and manufactured by Radio Zeeland is fitted with touch screen technology, while multiple screens have glass insert panels, not just for improved aesthetics, but to enhance viewing angles and display readability. There is also a glass-touch switch that is integrated to several external components, such as tracking, radar, security cameras, fuel usage, bilge, for additional monitoring and control.

The conversion was project managed by Voyager Maritime Alliance Group (VMAG) - the largest project in their 30-year history.  Kirilloff  and Associates was involved in the concept stages of the project.  Rafael Ochoa  provided the exterior styling in consultation with the owners and Kirilloff.

David Leone, President of VMAG said, "Very little was left untouched throughout the vessel, so it was crucial to manage each section of the refit, in the right order, to avoid any delays and additional costs. With our team of technical engineers, I knew we could accomplish this particularly complex project

"I am particularly proud to create the first ever entire superyacht vessel integration" he added. "This means that anywhere on the vessel there are access points that can monitor any type of activity, i.e. navigation, security, radar, engines, generators, power distribution, fuel, water etc., to enable the captain to have complete control of the vessel, whether he is at the helm, in the sun lounge or in his cabin."

  10. What if Voyager didn't have its aeroshuttle?

As an Intrepid-class vessel, Voyager had under its primary saucer the unmistakable outline of a Captain's Yacht-like shuttlecraft - what Doug Drexler dubbed the Aeroshuttle / AeroWing - and would presumably have reused the Danube Runabout interior from DS9. However, it was never utilized in the shows, especially with the introduction of the Delta Flyer(s) in later seasons.

3.) Would it add anything to an episode if the captain had his own yacht? As an ensemble show, the yacht strikes me as redundant.
