Most of the main attractions are found in arrondissements 1 through 8, which form the core of the city. This means that it’s possible to walk from attraction to attraction. But if you want to go a little quicker, Paris boasts an affordable and efficient public transport system. And the best way to get around is on the Metro.

With 300 Metro stations, everywhere in Paris is within a 10-minute walk of a station. A Paris Visite Travel Pass provides unlimited Metro travel within a specified zone for a set period of time. The Travel Pass may also be used on trams, buses, and the RER underground train system. A 1-day ticket for Zones 1 to 3 costs €12 ($13).

There are even more bus stops than Metro stations and bus services run every 5 to 7 minutes. This means that buses are often more convenient for shorter journeys than the Metro. Since a Travel Pass allows you to swap between the Metro and buses, you can simply take the bus when it’s most convenient but use the Metro for longer destinations. To learn which would be most convenient for your planned journey, you can check the route maps on the RATP (Regie Autonome des Transports) website .

Hire bicycles

Like many capital cities in Europe, Paris has a public bicycle hire scheme. Around the city, you’ll find 1,800 Velib bike stations with 24,000 bicycles. You simply require a credit card with a chip to rent a Velib bike.

There are over 16,000 taxis in Paris. Taxis are an expensive but convenient mode of transport. You can take a taxi from a taxi rank or hail one down in the street.

While you can opt to hire a car in Paris, be aware that Parisian drivers have a bad reputation for safety. Also, the congested roads are difficult to navigate and parking places rare. If you really want to enjoy your time in Paris, walk or use public transport.

Accommodations

When choosing where to stay in Paris, you should consider why you’re there. If your main interest is in taking your family to Disneyland, Paris, then you’ll find accommodation near there more spacious and much more affordable than most places in the city.

However, if you want to visit the historical and cultural attractions, then you should confine yourself to the central areas between the 1 st and the 8 th arrondissements, where hotels are within walking distance of the main sites.

Below, I’ve divided the kind of accommodation by area. However, this is only a rough guide. You’ll find 5-star luxury hotels in the budget and family areas, and I’ve previously stayed in a very cheap family guesthouse about 2-minutes-walk from the Arc de Triomphe.

You’ll find a lot of budget accommodation around the 5 th and part of the 6 th arrondissements simply because these areas are a little further from the most popular tourist attractions and famous streets.

But if you don’t mind a little more walking, the area of Montmartre is still pretty central and boasts character-filled, winding streets. And with Metro stations dotted all around the area, it’s as convenient as any other central location if you plan to get around on public transport.

An example budget hotel in this area is the Hotel Marignan  on a quiet street in the Latin Quarter. This historic hotel has hosted many famous guests, such as EE Cummings, and is within walking distance of Notre Dame.

The Rive Gauche area of the rest of the 6 th and the 7 th arrondissements is an easy walk from places like the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower. This makes the affordable hotels there perfect for families with young and impatient kids who just want to get there quick. Many of the hotels in this area vary between small boutique hotels and cozy, family-run hotels.

The aptly named Eiffel Rive Gauche Hotel is super close to the Eiffel Tower and would provide a great base for your family to explore the French capital.

While a few of the most exclusive hotels are in the 1 st arrondissement, the main selection of high-class hotels is found along the Champs-Elysees in the 8 th arrondissement. You’ll notice this coincides with where the most Michelin-starred restaurants and high-class bars and clubs are, many of which are attached to or inside the luxury hotels.

In terms of distance, the 1 st and 8 th arrondissements are neighbors, with the Champ-Elysees running between the Louvre area in the 1 st and the Arc de Triomphe in the 8 th . Government officials and important people have long made their home in the 8 th arrondissement, and it is considered the cultural heart of the capital.

A great example of a luxury hotel in this area is the Hotel de Crillon , which looks more like a palace or museum than a working hotel.

Although it’s fairly inland, Paris still benefits from an oceanic climate with cool but mild winters and pleasantly warm summers. Generally, the city sees light rainfall distributed evenly through the year, though sudden heavy showers can occur.

Paris gets coldest in January, with an average daily high of 45 0 F and a low of 37 0 F. During spring, the temperatures warm so that by April it reaches an average high of 60 0 F and low of 45 0 F. Spring is a great time to visit Paris because the flowers are blooming all around the city and the summer crowds have yet to descend upon the city.

The hottest month of the summer is July, with an average high of 77 0 F and low of 60 0 F. That’s when the city becomes crowded with visitors from all around the world. By October, the average high drops to 61 0 F and the low to 49 0 F. The fall is another great time to visit because the weather isn’t too cold but the crowds have diminished and the trees have donned their beautiful autumnal cloaks.

Attractions

The main attractions radiate out from the center of the city, which is the 1 st arrondissement.

The Louvre Palace in the 1st arrondissement was the main residence of the Kings of France from the 14 th century onward. Today it is much better known as the home of the world’s greatest art museum, the Musée du Louvre . If you want to see such world-famous masterpieces as the Venus de Milo sculpture and the Mona Lisa painting, then you should head straight for the glass pyramid in front of the grand palatial building.

The great cathedral of Notre-Dame in the 4 th arrondissement is so spectacular and famous that I cannot justify leaving it out of this list. However, please note that the Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Paris is closed for at least the next four years and maybe more.

After the devastating fire of April 2019, the cathedral and nearby surrounding area were closed to public access until sufficient repairs can be made to make the area safe once again. You can still admire its amazing Gothic architecture from a distance and maybe catch a glimpse of some of the restoration work in progress.

Eiffel Tower

The most visited attraction in the center of Paris is the Eiffel Tower in the 7 th arrondissement. Although this renowned iron tower was erected as a temporary structure in 1889, it is still standing strong and looks good for another few centuries of service. The fact that it was the world’s tallest building when built is eye-opening when it is compared to the Empire State Building in NYC or the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, but it is still the best place for a panoramic view in Paris.

Arc de Triomphe

This triumphal arch in the 8 th arrondissement was commissioned by Napoleon but wasn’t built until 1836, long after his death. It stands on a huge roundabout at the northern end of the Champ-Elysees and is one of the most recognizable and photographed monuments in the capital. The Arc de Triomphe is also home to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and the Flame of Remembrance that is kept alive in daily ceremonies.

You have to leave the city and travel 12 miles southwest to reach the Palace of Versailles , where Louis XIV moved his court in the 17 th century. Now this famous palace is a grand museum full of amazing reminders of the power of the great Sun King. Look around the interior and exterior of the palace for the many sun-emblems reminding visitors who lived here. But the true highlight for many visitors is the beautiful formal gardens that surround the palace.

Disneyland Paris

Also outside the city, despite its name, is Disneyland Paris, 20 miles to the east. This famous theme park is the most visited attraction in France. If you’re visiting Paris with children, you’ll probably want to devote two days to Disney because there are two separate parks here: Disneyland Park opened in 1992 and Walt Disney Studios Park opened in 2002. Inside both, you’ll find thrill rides for all ages as well as classic attractions, like actors dressed up as your favorite Disney characters and Sleeping Beauty’s Castle. The easiest way to get to Disney Paris is with a shuttle and entrance ticket deal .

The week we went there was a strike happening so many of the shuttles from the parking lot to the base of the mountain were on irregular schedules. They also have tour guides available in different languages which was really helpful. The change in climate also made it confusing on how to dress the higher up you go - the colder it is. And some parts are downright sweltering so bring a sweater! Century it is an awesome sight as you approach it. The village that grew below the Abbey is very quaint with narrow streets and pathways. Wear comfortable walking shoes as the walk up to the Abbey is extremely steep, but well worth it. Tip : We went by coach as it is a 3+ hour drive from Paris (should you be staying in Paris) and after a long day walking, it might not be a comfortable drive back to Paris. If there’s one activity here that’s not to be missed, it’s crossing the bay!

This hike along the shores is inspired by the thousand-year-old tradition of the pilgrims who used to travel to Mont Saint-Michel on foot. Now, this nature outing is accessible to all those who wish to enjoy an unforgettable experience.

There are various options available, from the simple discovery of quicksand (1h30) , the tour of the Mount (2h) , crossings from Mont Saint-Michel to the islet of Tombelaine (3h) or even a round trip crossing of 13 km (6h) : there’s something for everyone!

However, the Bay is not as calm as it may seem, and can sometimes be dangerous . In order to experience this adventure to the fullest, you must be accompanied by a certified guide. 

Choose your certified guide!

There are many certified guides offering trips in the bay. The concept of the “certified guide” is now a compulsory condition, issued by the Préfecture de la Manche, to supervise tourists during crossings. This certificate of competence is based on theoretical and practical training. It’s for your benefit: a guarantee of both safety and quality.

Be aware of the dangers of the bay!

The dangers of the bay are very real. There is the tide, difficult areas (the famous quicksand , for example!) or even the crossing of often unstable rivers. The weather is another factor to be taken into account. Not forgetting the daily water releases from the dam in the Couesnon river bed, at the foot of the Mount. A certified guide guarantees you a safe trip!

Those who wish to cross the bay must be in good physical condition, not suffering from any illness that could compromise their safety or that of the group.  Never venture out into the bay alone.

Crossings and outings in the Bay of Mont Saint-Michel

Crossing the Bay of Mont Saint-Michel on foot is an incredible experience. With sandy toes and the wind in your hair, head off to explore this exceptional natural site. Outings in the bay are always accompanied by an accredited guide and are available all year round. “Traditional” bay crossings

One-way crossing: 7 km with free time at mont saint-michel.

One-way crossings are also available. You’ll walk across the Bay to Mont Saint-Michel, where you’ll have an hour or two to explore the village . You can then take a shuttle bus back to your starting point. This could be a good option for families with children who can walk 7 km but not 14 km, for example.

A 7 km crossing (around 6 hours, transport included) starting at the Pointe du Grouin du Sud in St-Léonard or at the Bec d'Andaine in Genêts.

Round-trip: 14 km to find out all about the bay

The “traditional” crossing involves a 7 km walk across the bay between the coast and the village of Mont Saint-Michel, then back again . Lots of guides offer this outing and you can choose a crossing with or without a commentary, whichever you prefer. On the way, Mont Saint-Michel stands right in front of you, as your target destination. On the way back, you’ll have a great view of the coast from Cancale to Granville.

A 14 km crossing (6 hours) starting at the Pointe du Grouin du Sud in St-Léonard or at the Bec d'Andaine in Genêts.

Foreshore walks from Mont Saint-Michel

This walk around Mont Saint-Michel is ideal if you don’t have a lot of time or you don’t want to walk too far. You could spend a day exploring the village and the Abbey , for example, before heading off on this walk with a guide. It’s the perfect way to see Mont Saint-Michel from a different perspective, and to discover the foreshore, the quicksands and much more.

This nature outing is the opportunity to enjoy the bay as the tide comes in during small coefficients. You can observe the marine wildlife as the water rises (fish and marine mammals). With a picnic on the sandbanks or on Tombelaine islet, river crossings and quicksand , this outing has something for everyone!

Winter makes the experience even more special. Instead of going barefoot , you’ll need a pair of water shoes. You won’t cross any big rivers, but walking ankle deep in the cold water is really invigorating! At this time of year, there aren’t many other walkers and the bay is almost deserted . Time seems to stand still, giving a unique sense of freedom. If it’s really cold, the bay might be covered in white frost, and can sometimes even turn into a huge ice rink : a completely unforgettable experience!

A unique place shaped by the tides 

The Bay of Mont Saint-Michel is a vast expanse of around 500 km² situated between Granville and Cancale . Twice a day, the sea goes out several kilometres at low tide and the landscape changes completely, leaving nothing but sand as far as the eye can see . At high tide, the sea covers the bay again, and during high coefficients, it completely surrounds Mont-Saint-Michel.

Open to the elements, the bay and the area around Mont Saint-Michel are constantly shifting . The currents can be very strong, and the quicksand can appear and disappear. It’s said that the tide here races in at the speed of a galloping horse! So to avoid any risk, you must never go out alone and must always be accompanied by a guide on any crossing .

The Bay of Mont Saint-Michel is washed by the highest tides in Europe . At low tide, you can walk across the bay to Mont Saint-Michel. During spring tides, the difference between high and low tide can be as much as 15 metres , making the bay an ever-changing landscape.

Wear shorts and prepare to go barefoot . Make sure you have warm clothing and a raincoat in your bag, depending on the season, as the weather can change quickly. Remember to bring water, a towel, suncream and a change of clothing for your children.

Outings in the bay are available all year round . While summer is the best season for crossing in your shorts, it’s also the time with the most visitors. The conditions are great in spring and autumn, when the light and colours are more changeable, and this is our favourite time. For the more adventurous visitors, crossing in winter gives you a sense of absolute freedom : you’ll have the bay to yourself, or almost!

La construction de l'abbaye, qui s'est poursuivie du XI e au XVI e siècle, en s'adaptant à un site naturel très difficile, a été un tour de force technique et artistique.

Dit ‘Wonder van het Westen’ bestaat uit een in gotische stijl gebouwde benedictijnenabdij gewijd aan de aartsengel Sint-Michaël. Het staat op een rotsachtig eilandje van 80 meter hoog – te midden van uitgestrekte zandbanken, blootgesteld aan krachtige getijden – tussen Normandië en Bretagne. De abdij – gebouwd tussen de 11e en de 16e eeuw – is een technische en artistieke ‘tour de force’, omdat men zich moest aanpassen aan de problemen die het natuurgebied met zich meebracht. Naast de abdij bestaat Mont Saint-Michel uit het dorp dat ontstond in de schaduw van de grote abdijmuren. Een dijk van 1.800 meter verbindt de rots met het vasteland.

Outstanding Universal Value

Perched on a rocky islet in the midst of vast sandbanks exposed to powerful tides, at the limit between Normandy and Brittany, stands “Wonder of the West”, a Gothic-style Benedictine abbey dedicated to the Archangel St Michel, and the village that grew up in the shadow of its walls. Built between the 11th and 16th centuries, the abbey is a technical and artistic tour de force , having had to adapt to the problems posed by this unique natural site. Thus, the practical and aesthetic solutions inscribed in the stones of the edifice are henceforth inseparable from its natural environment.

This Benedictine abbey, founded in 966, was erected on a sanctuary dedicated to the Archangel Michel since 708 and conserves some vestiges of the Romananesque period. The older part of the present abbey, the small pre-Romanesque church with a double nave, Notre-Dame-sous-terre, in granite masonry and flat bricks, dates back undoubtedly to the 10th century. The contribution of the Romanesque period is still visible in the nave of the abbey church, whose crossing is supported by the rock summit, and in a group of conventual staggered buildings (the chaplaincy or gallery of Aquilon, the covered gallery of the monks of which the vault, constructed after 1103, would be one of the earliest examples of ribbed vaulting).

But it is the masters of the Gothic period who, benefiting as best they could from the restricted area, invented the high walls, the soaring masses, the open volumes, the airy pinacles and the sharp silhouette of the rock. The new body of the conventual buildings, built from 1204, merits the name of “ Merveille ” (Marvel) for the elegance of its conception. Above the chaplaincy of the 12th century, it comprises the celebrated rooms known as the ‘ Hôtes ’ and the ‘Chevaliers’ and, on the uppermost floor, in addition to the vast body of the refectory, the cloister with colonnettes grouped in five, open on one side to the sea. Among the many later additions, mention should be made of the flamboyant choir of the abbey church, begun in 1448 to replace the Romanesque choir which had previously collapsed.

The Mont-Saint-Michel, sanctuary located in a difficult place of access, in accordance with the tradition of places of worship dedicated to Saint Michel, place of pilgrimage frequented throughout the Middle Ages, and later seat of a Benedictine abbey of strong intellectual influence, is in its most characteristic aspects, one of the most important sites of Christian civilization in the Middle Ages.

Criterion (i): Through the unique combination of the natural site and the architecture, the Mont-Saint-Michel constitutes a unique aesthetic success.

Criterion (iii): Mont-Saint-Michel is an unequalled ensemble, as much because of the co-existence of the abbey and its fortified village within the confined limits of a small island, as for the originality of the placement of the buildings which accord with its unforgettable silhouette.

Criterion (vi): Mont Saint-Michel is one of the most important sites of medieval Christian civilization.

Despite the turbulent history of the Mont and the destruction of the earlier part of the church, the integrity of the ensemble of the site and the abbey is effective. The restorations of the 19th century have given back their dignity to the buildings and their emblematic aspect, notably with the construction of the spire in 1897. The village has conserved its ancient constructions.

The values of the site have been maintained despite the silting up of the bay due to natural phenomena and especially the construction of an access causeway in 1879, that caused the Mont to lose its insular character. On completion of major work carried out by the French State in 2015, the maritime character of the Mont Saint-Michel has been reestablished.

Authenticity

The relation between the Mont and the vast surrounding landscape of the bay has remained intact for centuries. The buildings of the abbey and the village that surrounds it, maintained, restored or renewed accordingly since the 17th, 19th and 20th centuries, are of remarkable authenticity in their substance, their development or lay-out.

Abolished in 1789 and transformed into a prison until 1863, the abbey today is a monument that testifies to the Christian past, where the monastical presence is ensured by a small community. Its history, shared by three million visitors each year, recalls the outstanding role that it played.

The visual characteristics of the Mont , linked to its topograhy, and its status as a largely visible landmark, are very vulnerable to insertions into the landscape likely to alter the panorama from and to the property. Moreover, the high visitor frequentation risks damaging the spirit of the place.

Protection and management requirements

The ensemble of the property, built and natural, benefits from protection at the national level either under the Heritage Code or the Environment Code. The abbey, its ramparts and dependences belong to the State and have been listed as Historic Monuments since 1862. The shoreline included in the property is protected by “coastal law” and the bay has been protected since 1994 by the Ramsar Convention.

The State has entrusted the management of the abbey to the National Monuments Centre, a body under the authority of the Ministry of Culture. The abbey benefits from important and regular restoration works. Taking into account the geological nature of the site, consolidation work on the rocks is carried out periodically.

The shared governance between the State and the Mixed Syndicate of the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, set up in 2006, continues with the body called the Conference of the Bay, chaired by the Prefect of the Normandy region and the two chairpersons of the Normandy and Brittany regions.

Since the reestablishment of the maritime character of the Mont-Saint-Michel, the causeway has been replaced by a footbridge and a shuttle service ensures the transport of visitors from the locality of La Caserne to the foot of the Mont . The establishment of this facility has enabled the regulation of the tourist flow. Moreover, the hydraulic construction works such as the Couesnon dam where water releases flush the sediments offshore, combat the silting-up of the Mont .

AN UNFORGETTABLE SIGHT

The Mont-Saint-Michel is one of Europe’s most unforgettable sights. Set in a mesmerising bay shared by Normandy and Brittany, the mount draws the eye from a great distance.

This staggeringly beautiful location has long captured the imagination. The story of how the mount came to be a great Christian pilgrimage site dates back to the early 8th century, when Aubert, bishop of the nearby hilltop town of Avranches, claimed that the Archangel Michael himself had pressured him into having a church built atop the island just out to sea.

From 966 onwards, the dukes of Normandy, followed by the French kings, supported the development of a major Benedictine abbey on Mont-Saint-Michel. Magnificent monastic buildings were added throughout the Middle Ages, one vertiginous wing in particular being nicknamed the Marvel. The  Abbey of the Mont-Saint-Michel  became a renowned centre of learning, attracting some of the greatest minds and manuscript illuminators in Europe. Vast numbers of pilgrims visited, despite endless cross-Channel conflict; in fact, the ramparts at the base of the island were built to keep the English forces out. Other fine buildings line the steep village street, now converted into museums, restaurants, hotels and shops for today’s tourists.

RESTORING THE Bay of the MONT-SAINT-MICHEL tO ITS FORMER GLORY

The Bay of the Mont-Saint-Michel has been prone to silting up over the last couple of centuries. Man-made activities, including farming and building a causeway to the mount, have added to this problem. However, a  major conservation project  back in 2015 has helped restore island status to the Mont-Saint-Michel. The main river into the bay, the Couesnon, has now been left to flow more freely so that sediments are washed out to sea, and a bridge has replaced the former causeway, enabling the sea to once more fully surround the mount at particularly high tides .

HOW TO GET TO the MONT-SAINT-MICHEL

The visitor car parks have been moved further inland to preserve the Mont-Saint-Michel’s exceptional landscape. The car parks are around 1.5 miles from the mount. Once you have parked, head for the Place des Navettes, where specially devised shuttle buses called passeurs will take you to the mount. The shuttle bus stop is 800m (half a mile) from the car parks and the passeurs stop 450m away from the mount itself.   The passeurs operate every day at regular intervals between 7:30am and midnight.

Alternatively, you can walk all the way from the car parks to the mount, taking in the magnificence of the Mont-Saint-Michel as you approach.

Discover Mont-Saint-Michel Bay

“The Couesnon, in its madness, placed Mont Saint-Michel in Normandy”, but the bay is well and truly in Brittany. This exceptional site in the north of the region is a Unesco world heritage site. Many admirable phenomena are recognised here: a splendid maritime landscape, tides that hold the record in France with heights of 14 metres, a patchwork of polders, alignments of mussel farms, and a mythical architectural gem reflecting in the vast stretch of water.

Mussels grow on “trees”

Emerging from fields of sand, lines of 110 stakes are planted over 100-metre lengths. On these kilometres of stakes, where odd-looking boats on wheels move around, mussels are farmed. They attach themselves to these masts and grow in clusters. Thanks to this technique, introduced in 1954, and a particularly favourable environment, Vivier has become the leading mussel port in France. To learn more about the business of these fisher-farmers and the secrets of this magical place, Maison de la Baie proposes a permanent exhibition and outings on foot or on-board the Mytili-mobile. It’s a wonderful opportunity to have a change of scenery or to observe the Mascaret, a surprising wave that forms on the water’s surface during high tides.

Do not venture far into the bay alone. When the tide rises, the water moves at the speed of a person walking at a good pace and the water can sometimes surround you.

At the heart of nature

In the middle of Mont Saint-Michel bay, Vivier-sur-Mer is moored on a coast that unfolds in splendour from Normandy to Cancale . The coastline, stretching over long beaches to the west, gets wilder heading towards Pointe du Grouin . This succession of sand, springy bays, and salt meadows where sheep graze offers some lovely walks and wonderful views.

Day 1 Arrival at the inn "La Begossière" at Roz sur Couesnon at the end of the day from 6pm, or at the Pontorson train station between 6pm and 8pm. Dinner and night in the inn.

drop. Then, we arrive at the Chappe telegraph, and have a picnic break. This afternoon, we ride on the hill above the Bay, and then, we start playing hide-and-seek in the woods and on the panoramic views on the Mont Saint Michel. We can perceive the Mont in the bend of a path, and then, we lose it when entering a new leafy wood. The freshness in these woods allows us to regain our breath before riding again in impressive descents.

When arriving at the Roz Sur Couesnon belvedere where we stop, we are in front of a splendid panoramic view on the Mont Saint Michel. The guide has the opportunity to tell us the details of this national landmark. Then, we ride back to the inn and have dinner. It is the best moment for everyone to give his impression of the day.

Day 3 Today is the big day! We ride through the green path which leads us in front of the fine sand Bay. We cross the Bay cantering! Crossing it makes us living intensive moments. The amazing light makes magical colors to this infinite landscape. The Ombelaine Island, a big rock located in the middle of the Bay is also an ornithological reserve, and the unforgettable imposing and majestic Mont Saint Michel... Our guide tells us the story and legend of this mysterious place. Then, we canter again into this huge landscape, where the only existing limits are the rivers you need to cross. Individual departure from 6 pm, transfer possible to Pontorson train station (plan a train after 7:30pm).

Day 4 (if 4 days ride)

We ride again on the green path, oppened a few years ago to allow to ride/walk safely along the Bay from Cancale to the Mont St Michel. However, today we are not riding along the Bay but through the marshes. This zone is entirely different from the Polders’ one. It is located between the last dam and the sea. At high tides, it is overlaid by the sea. However, at normal times, this place still hosts the salt marshes sheep, an appellation dedicated to the famous sheep herded in the Bay, but also many bird species. So, you will have enderstood it is a place full of marshes, and your guide will show you the diversity of grassy plants, and will describe you, on occasion, the bird flying alongside you. It is also a suitable place for cantering. Individual departure from 6pm, transfer possible to Pontorson train station (plan a train after 7:30 pm).

Day 5 ( if 5 days ride)

On this day, we travel across Brittany's ground to Pas Gérault's ponds. We go past the "Manoir de la Rue", built in 1575, to join the hamlet La Lande de Montomblay where an oak tree has risen up since 1792. After riding alongside the Sains' ponds, we follow an undergrowth path to the Chardrain's hamlet, with a typical architecture. Then, we reach Pas Gérault's pond. Previously built to supply water to the water-mills, today, it contains many animal and plant species that are able to blossom in this protected environment. Ideal place to relax, the picnic area encourages us to a break. After lunch, we will cross the Riscopp valley to join our inn while making the most of the last panoramic views on Mont-Saint-Michel bay. Indvidual departure from 6 pm. Transfer possible to Pontorson train station (trains from 7.30 pm).

Important: This itinerary is provided on an indicative basis and is subject to modifications without prior notice depending on tide or meteorological reasons. NB: The three days week-ends will use the itinerary of day 2 and 3.

Our horses and required riding ability

 We want advanced riders who feel at ease outdoor at the three gaits. You need to manage your horse when cantering in open spaces and to have a good physical condition to be able to ride during 5 hours a day... and for several days! If you are a beginner or an intermediary rider, we suggest you to do the itinerary: "Discover the bay".

We ask you to groom and to saddle your horse.  The less than 12 years old or more than 60 years old riders, as well as the ones who weight more than 85kg may be accepted only after our validation, and upon a suitable riding ability and horse. 

The local team

The riding tour is supervised by an equestrian tourism accompanist (ATE) or an equestrian tourism guide (GTE).  When crossing the Bay, a second crossing specialist guide joins the group to make you live this wonderful experience safely.

Group size: From 2 to 10 riders

Transfers are possible from and to Pontorson train station. Please, plan a train arriving between 6pm and 8pm for a good organisation of the transfers. On the last day, please plan a train leaving after 7pm30.
