Welcome to Flekkefjordbanen and our rail biking trips! This is a perfect activity, whether you are visiting with your family, a group of friends, or are ready for a teambuilding day with your colleagues.

The rail bikes are custom-made and specifically designed for comfortable and safe cycling on railway tracks. Each bike has room for two people cycling, as well as one adult passenger or two children. The bikes are versatile, practical, and flexible, and can easily take wheelchairs and child seats.

The trip starts at Flekkefjord railway station. You will experience breathtaking sceneries and 17 tunnels on your journey. The railway was handmade and is considered a masterpiece in stone. The distance from Flekkefjord railway station to Bakkekleivi, which is the end station, is 17 km. It takes about 1,5 hours to ride one way, and normally visitors spend 3,5 hours on a roundtrip. You have 4 hours to complete the trip.

Useful information:

Headlights can be rented. However, if you have a strong headlight, bring it along!

Bring warm clothing. The tunnels are often cold!

Remember to keep your distance and ride slowly!

Be on time. We prefer that our guests meet up 30 minutes ahead of their tour.

How to get there.

The starting point for the historic railway experience, which is suitable for the whole family, is at Flekkefjord bus station. The railbike season is from April to October. Remember to bring suitable clothing because it can be cold inside the tunnels!

Duration: 3-5 hours.

Special conditions:

• Park at the parking place and show respect for private land.
• Show respect to animals along the trail.
• Dogs have to be on leash.
• Leave nothing but footprints!

What Three Words

Culture and history.

Explore the southern Norwegian landscape with a railbike adventure on the old Flekkefjord line. The route climbs from Flekkefjord to Sira and snakes along the side of lake Lundevatnet on its way. During this 17 kilometer trip to Sira you pass through many tunnels and can appreciate spectacular scenery over mountains and lakes.

On this trip you will experience the historic railway line while exercising and enjoying beautiful landscape and hearing the authentic sound of the railbike moving along the tracks. The railway used to be an important link between the coast at Flekkefjord and Sira, 17 kilometers inland. Building the railway was not an easy task in the late 1800s, especially in the mountainous landscape. Construction of the railroad took seven years and the section between Flekkefjord and Sira was opened in 1904. The last train travelled along this route on New Year´s Eve in 1990. Since then the railway has been used for recreational purposes.
