Latest news from the race, what is cycling like in the uae beyond the worldtour races, lennert van eetvelt wins uae tour with stage victory atop jebel hafeet, uae tour: tim merlier completes hat-trick of wins on stage 6, uae tour 2024 latest results.

Stage 7: Lennert Van Eetvelt wins UAE Tour with stage victory atop Jebel Hafeet

Lennert Van Eetvelt (Lotto-Dstny) won the overall title at the UAE Tour after winning the final summit finish to Jebel Hafeet on the finale stage 7.

The Belgian powered clear with 1.7km remaining to claim stage victory by 22 seconds from Pello Bilbao (Bahrain Victorious) and Ben O’Connor (Decathlon-AG2R).

Van Eetvelt secured the overall title by two seconds ahead of Ben O'Connor (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) and 11 seconds ahead of Pello Bilbao (Bahrain - Victorious).

Stage 6: Tim Merlier completes hat-trick of wins

Tim Merlier (Soudal-QuickStep) continued his rich run of winning form by notching up his third victory of the UAE Tour on stage 6 to Abu Dhabi. The Belgian’s well-timed effort saw him beat Arvid de Kleijn (Tudor) and Phil Bauhaus (Bahrain Victorious) to the line in another frantic bunch sprint.

Overall leader Jay Vine (UAE Team Emirates) carries a buffer of 11 seconds into Sunday’s final stage, which features a summit finish at Jebel Hafeet.

Stage 5: Olav Kooij beats Tim Merlier in stage 5 photo finish

It was the closest sprint yet at the UAE Tour, with Olav Kooij (Visma-Lease a Bike) narrowly denying Tim Merlier (Soudal-QuickStep) his hat-trick of stage wins on stage 5 in a photo-finish victory.

Merlier was majorly out of position in the final kilometre, forced to launch from way down in the peloton, with Kooij starting his sprint on the right-hand side of the road off the back of a strong Astana Qazaqstan lead out for Mark Cavendish.

As the Brit ran out of steam, Kooij made his dart for the line and just managed to pip Merlier by a few millimetres at the line with a great bike throw. Sam Welsford (Bora-Hansgrohe) was third.

Stage 4: UAE Tour: Tim Merlier wins stage 4 from chaotic sprint

Tim Merlier (Soudal-QuickStep) doubled up on wins at the 2024 UAE Tour with a second stage win after latching onto Olav Kooij's (Visma-Lease a Bike) early dart for the line and slingshotting out of the Dutchman's wheel. Kooij dropped to third at the line as Arvid de Kleijn (Tudor Pro Cycling) also came around him.

Top sprinters Mark Cavendish (Astana Qazaqstan), Sam Welsford (Bora-Hansgrohe) and Fabio Jakobsen (DSM-Firmenich PostNL) failed to crack the top five after a hectic final rush for the important last corner left them out of position with the Australian also getting held up by a crash.

The late crash 2.6km from the finish managed to avoid the GC leaders despite slightly delaying  Jay Vine's (UAE Team Emirates) arrival at the finish, meaning the Australian carries his 11-second lead on Ben O'Connor into the fifth stage.

Stage 3: UAE Tour: Ben O'Connor strikes out for stage 3 victory atop Jebel Jais

Ben O'Connor (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) outfoxed the other GC favourites to take victory on stage 3 of the UAE Tour after launching a perfectly timed tandem attack with teammate Valentin Paret-Peintre in the final 1.2km of the Jebel Jais climb.

The Australian held off the chase from  Jay Vine  (UAE Team Emirates) in second and Lennert Van Eetvelt (Lotto Dstny) in third after they failed to make contact following the opportunistic move.

But the Aussie's second-place finish and six bonus seconds gained meant he moved into the race lead ahead of teammate Brandon McNulty as the American struggled in the final sprint.

O'Connor gained ten bonus seconds with the win, moving him up to second overall, 11 seconds down on Vine while McNulty slipped to third, a further two seconds back.

Stage 2:   UAE Tour: Brandon McNulty wins time trial as home team claim 1-2-3

The USA's Brandon McNulty led UAE Team Emirates to a 1-2-3 in the 12.1km time trial stage on Hudayriyat Island south of Abu Dhabi, winning the stage in a time of 13:27. Jay Vine and Mikkel Bjerg completed the all UAE Team Emirates podium as they took control of their 'home' stage race.

Former world time trial champion Tobias Foss (Ineos Grenadiers) is now their closest overall rival after losing 14 seconds to McNulty.  Pello Bilbao (Bahrain Victorious)  can also not be ruled out after he lost 19 seconds and finished fourth overall in 2023.

Stage 1: UAE Tour: Tim Merlier wins as late pile-up disrupts sprint

Tim Merlier (Soudal-Quick Step) won the first sprint of the 2024 UAE Tour, avoiding the chaos of a crash in the peloton with 250 metres to go and surging past Fernando Gaviria (Movistar) and Juan Sebastián Molano (UAE Team Emirates) to win with his arms in the air.

The crash happened in sight of the finish, with a touch of wheels causing a number of riders to crash at 70 km/h. Arvid de Kleijn (Tudor Pro Cycling) and Jakub Mareczko (Corratec-Vini Fantini) came through to take second and third also passing Gaviria who faded to sixth in the final hundred metres.

Thanks to a ten-second time bonus for his stage victory, Merlier pulled on the race leader’s red jersey. However, stage 2 is a 12.1km time trial around Al Hudayriyat Island near Abu Dhabi, with the overall contenders and time trial specialists expected to dominate the results.

UAE Tour 2024 Information

The UAE Tour returns for a sixth edition in 2024, taking place over seven days from Madinat Zayed on February 19 to Jebel Hafeet on February 25. In 2024, the lone WorldTour race in the Middle East is positioned as the third event on the WorldTour calendar for men, as the Tour Down Under and Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race returned to their January slots.

The UAE Tour launched in 2019 when two existing races merged, the Abu Dhabi Tour and the Dubai Tour. Primož Roglič won the inaugural race. Last year, Remco Evenepoel claimed the overall victory besting Luke Plapp and Adam Yates. In 2022, Tadej Pogačar won the overall title for the second year in a row, making it a replay of 2021 as he finished in front of runner-up Adam Yates.

In 2024, the route, which includes two mountain-top finishes and one individual time trial, is rounded out by four flat stages.  The final stage culminates with the climb of Jebel Hafeet which has been the grand finale of the seven-day stage race on multiple occasions. It has become a defining climb in the Middle East, having been part of the Abu Dhabi Tour and now the UAE Tour. The climb sits on one of the highest mountains in the United Arab Emirates and near the border with Oman.

UAE Tour contenders

Cycling’s biggest GC stars won’t be starting their 2024 seasons at the UAE Tour with the previous two winners of the race, Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) and Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-QuickStep) opting for early programmes in Italy and Portugal.

But in their absence still remains a strong GC field with Tour de France podium sitter and winner of the recent Tour of Oman, Adam Yates set to line up as the heavy favourite. The Brit is a former winner from 2020 and has sat on the podium of the last four editions.

He’ll face close, but friendly competition from inside his team as Brandon McNulty and Jay Vine also feature on their starting roster here. Vine and McNulty may be better suited to the flat 12km individual time trial on stage 2, but Yates’ dominance on the most important climb - Jebel Hafeet - may prove the difference come the end of stage seven.

The Brit has won twice up the decisive climb and after blitzing the field up Green Mountain at last week’s Tour of Oman, he will be the man to beat on Jebel Hafeet. It makes up one of the three decisive moments for the GC contenders at 11km in length with an average gradient of 7%, alongside stage three’s summit finish on Jebel Jais (19km at 5.6%) which often ends in a reduced-bunch finish for the climbers and the stage 2 flat ITT.

Making his debut at the race is Ben O’Connor (Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale) , who could certainly feature in the latter stages on Hafeet and stick with Yates, alongside runner-up from 2023 Luke Plapp (Jayco AlUla).

Plapp’s form is unknown after a tough period of racing Down Under, but he is entering the race as the road race and time trial national champion. He’ll enjoy any echelons and should have the advantage over the other GC contenders in the Al Hudayriyat Island time trial.

Bubbling under the known contenders for overall victory which also includes Pello Bilbao (Bahrain-Victorious) is a whole host of youth talents hoping to step up against Yates. Ilan Van Wilder (Soudal-QuickStep) has already proved himself to an extent but a top WorldTour stage race result looks imminent.

His countryman Lennert Van Eetvelt (Lotto Dstny) will be another rider under 23 hoping to show himself and his punch in a late sprint should make him strong up stage three’s Jebel Jais finish. Max Poole (DSM-Firmenich PostNL) will look to kick on in his second senior season after showing his talents in Romandie and at the Dauphiné last season.

The UAE Tour is incredibly important for the home team so Yates won’t want to be missing any echelons as he did in 2023. It also forms part of his run into the Tour de France where he was the best climbing domestique last year for Pogačar and his form will be vital should the Emirati team be able to defeat the reigning two-time champion Jonas Vingegaard (Visma-Lease a Bike).

UAE Tour 2024, who will take the top step of the podium? Remco Evenepoel wins GC in 2023

UAE Tour 2024: Key details

Now in its sixth edition, the UAE Tour 2024 comprises a seven-day stage race starting on 19 February and finishing on 25 February. It is the result of a merger between the Abu Dhabi Tour and the Dubai Tour , and is one of the first events on the year's UCI WorldTour calendar.

Primož Roglič (Jumbo-Visma) won the inaugural UAE Tour in 2019, with Adam Yates (Mitchelton-Scott) claiming the 2020 title. In the 2021 and 2022, Tadej Pogačar (UAE-Team Emirates) has taken back-to-back victories in the desert. 2023 was won by  Remco Evenepoel of Soudal–Quick-Step

Previous champions of the Dubai Tour include Mark Cavendish, Elia Viviani and Marcel Kittel, with the event predominantly favouring sprinters. Comparatively, the Abu Dhabi Tour was more one for the climbers, thanks to the pivotal climb of the 10.8 kilometre Jebel Hafeet. In 2018, Alejandro Valverde scooped up the win.

Stage-by-stage guides from the deserts to Expo 2020, meet the top riders and how to watch

The UAE Tour returns for a fourth time

The UAE Tour returns for its fourth edition, from February 20-26 and the stages are set for seven days of thrilling sprints, arduous climbs, tactical battles and the ultimate goal of crowning the champion of the 2022 UCI World Tour season opener.

While still in its embryonic years, the UAE Tour attracts the best cyclists in the world’s and two-time Tour de France Champion and UAE Team Emirates star is back to defend his crown.

From highways to deserts, mountains to city streets, the best in the globe are once again set to fight it out over a week of arduous effort in pursuit of glory.

Here Gulf News takes you through all you need to know about the UAE Tour 2022.

Tadej Pogacar wins the UAE Tour 2021, Caleb Ewan wins stage

The 2022 UAE Tour kicks off the World Tour calendar on Sunday, bringing the world’s best riders together as the UAE accelerates its long-term cycling ambitions to become a leading global cycling hub. This is thanks in no small part to the UAE Tour as it broadcast to the world the accessible, scenic and challenging terrain the UAE has to offer cyclists — be it professional or amateur.

As recently as February 2019, some of the biggest names in cycling rolled off for the first ever UAE Tour, taking a professional peloton of more than 100 riders on a whistle-stop tour of all seven emirates across seven stages of racing. The inaugural event was won by Olympic gold medallist Primoz Roglic and has continued to grow in stature ever since.

In 2020, even as the Covid-19 pandemic swept the globe, the UAE Tour still managed to put together a successful — if curtailed — event.

The five-stage race was won by Mitchelton—Scott’s British rider Adam Yates, with over a minute’s advantage over youngster Tadej Pogacar of local side UAE Team Emirates. The Slovenian took second overall and the young riders title. Caleb Ewan of Lotto-Soudal collected the points classification crown. The sprints classification was won by Veljko Stojnic of Vini Zabu-KTM. Thanks to the efforts of Pogacar, Diego Ulissi and Davide Formolo, UAE Team Emirates took the team title.

Tadej Pogacar wins the UAE Tour 2021, Caleb Ewan wins stage

Next, in 2021, we saw the UAE Tour back to full operational capacity and there was great fanfare as Pogacar claimed the general classification title in dominant fashion for UAE Team Emirates — sandwiched between two famous Tour de France titles. The Slovenian outshone Yates this time around and also picked up his second young riders title. Joao Almeida of Deceuninck-Quick-Step was third.

Dutchman David Dekker of Team Jumbo — Visma claimed the points crown over seven tough stages, while France’s Tony Gallopin took the sprints title for AG2R Citroën Team.

Cycling fans now await the fourth edition of the only World Tour race in the Middle East, organised by Abu Dhabi Sports Council, with a host of household names to race a route of more than 1,000km in length before concluding at the Expo 2020 Dubai site on February 26.

With a broadcast audience of millions across five continents, the UAE Tour is capturing the attention of the world’s cyclists, and boosting the growth of the sport in the region as a result.

Abu Dhabi and Dubai have quickly become a world-class cycling destinations, due to expansive networks of purpose-built cycle tracks and urban cycling networks.

UCI, the sport’s governing body, recently announced that Abu Dhabi has received the prestigious UCI Bike City label. The award was granted for the region’s commitment to hosting international cycling events, promoting the sport across the community, and developing cycling infrastructure and programmes that support the UCI’s cycling for all strategy.

Riders to watch

Tadej Pogacar wins the UAE Tour 2021, Caleb Ewan wins stage

General Classification

Tadej Pogacar The Slovenian has grown into one of the greatest young riders on tour and already has two Tour de France titles to his name. He is a strong favourite to defend the title he won in 2021 and at 23 years old, will be around for years to come.

Adam Yates The Ineos Grenadiers rider is possibly Pogacar’s closest challenger, having won the title in 2020 and coming a close second to the Slovenian last time out. His fourth place in last year’s Vuelta a Espana will give him confidence.

And it was Adam Yates of Michelton-Scott who got to the top of Jebel Hafeet first to take Stage 3 honours and the GC leader's red Jersey. Yates won ahead of Tadej Pogacar and Alexey Lutsenko

Tom Dumoulin The Jumbo-Visma man, who last rode the UAE Tour in 2019, competing in its augural edition. After a break from professional cycling, 2022 is a big year for the Dutch rider, who is looking to prove himself at a Grand Tour this season. Dumoulin will no doubt aim to build on the sixth place overall that he earned at the 2019 UAE Tour and begin his World Tour season with a strong result.

Romain Bardet The Dutch veteran will be competing in the race for the first time for Team DSM, adding the UAE Tour to a CV that includes the Giro d’Italia title, two Tour de France GC podiums and multiple Grand Tour stage wins.

Joao Almeida Portuguese Almeida joins Pogacar for a two-pronged UAE Team Emirates attack. At one month older that his teammate, the pair will be looking to forge a bond that can bring multiple more major titles to the UAE — starting on home shores. Almeida has finished fourth and sixth in his two Giro d’Italia campaigns to date.

Jai Hindley The Australian Bora-Hansgrohe man has yet to win a major title, but will be fancied to break his duck after having already taken second place overall in the Giro d’Italia and Tour de Pologne by the age of 25.

Ireland’s Sam Bennett claims win on Hope Probe Stage of UAE Tour on Marjan Island

Sprinters and time-trialists

Sam Bennett The Irish eight-time Grand Tour stage winner has rejoined the Bora-Hansgrohe team for 2022, and will aim to bounce back from his 2021 season with a strong start in the Emirates this month. Having taken two stage wins on his UAE Tour debut last year, Bennett will no doubt be one to watch.

Mark Cavendish The Quick-Step man may be 36 but is showing no sign of slowing down as he won last year’s Tour de France green jersey. The ‘Manx Missile’ has earned 52 Grand Tour stage wins and a UCI World Championship title over the course of his career but is yet to take first place at the UAE Tour, having previously competed in 2019 and 2020 editions.

Elia Viviani The Ineos Grenadiers hope will be on the hunt for stage wins. The Italian first rode the UAE Tour in 2019, taking a stage victory and the sprinter’s green jersey.

Dylan Gronenewegen

Dylan Groenewegen The Dutchman, riding for Team BikeExchange-Jayco will compete in the UAE Tour for the second time after his race debut in 2020, adding victory on Stage 4 to a list of victories including four Tour de France stages.

Arnaud Demare The winner of Milano-Sanremo and a five-time Giro d’Italia stage winner returns to the UAE after his race debut in 2020, during which he took a stage podium atop the steep Hatta Dam.

Jasper Philipsen The Belgian Alpecin-Fenix rider returns for his second UAE Tour. Philipsen has already amassed three stage wins at La Vuelta and numerous stage podiums in the Tour de France — all by the age of 23.

UAE Tour 2022 full route

Stage 1 — Al Ain Water Stage — Madinat Zayed (184km)

A stage taking place entirely in the desert. It’s beginning and finale follow approximately 45km of straight roads. Once in Liwa, the route enters a zone of dunes that make up the bulk of the stage’s elevation. A series of ups and downs will be covered twice to take the riders to Moreeb Dune. After passing Liwa for the second time, the route follows the same way back to Madinat Zayed.

UAE Tour 2022 Stage 2

Stage 2 — International Holding Company Stage — Hudayriyat Island to Abu Dhabi Breakwater (176km)

A stage around the city of Abu Dhabi. It departs from Hudayriyat Island and heads to Yas Island and then to Al Raha, passing by the Great Mosque. The route returns first through the Al Wathba Camel Track and then Khalifa City to converge again on Yas Marina and head to Saadiyat Island. The riders then take the Corniche to Abu Dhabi Breakwater for a sprint finish.

UAE Tour 2022 Stage 3

Stage 3 — G42 Stage presented by Tissot — Ajman ITT (9km)

An individual time trial entirely in Ajman that features a very fast course characterised only by a U-turn about halfway along the route. The road is perfectly flat and wide with wide radius turns.

UAE Tour 2022 Stage 4

Stage 4 — Burjeel Medical City Stage — Fujairah Fort to Jebel Jais (181km)

This is the first of two most likely decisive mountain stages in the UAE Tour. It is divided into two distinctly different parts: the first being an undulating approach to the final mountain through the desert and the second being the last 20km or so of continuous climbing to the finish. Departure is from Fujairah, crossing the desert areas on the edge of the Hajar Mountains towards Ras Al Khaimah, whose capital city is not crossed by the race, which heads directly towards Jebel Jais. The stage’s final climb is around 20km in length at an almost constant 5 per cent, with slightly steeper gradients of around 7-9 per cent in the last 2km.

UAE Tour 2022 Stage 5

Stage 5 — Marjan Stage — Ras Al Khaimah Corniche to Al Marjan Island (182km)

The stage starts in Ras Al Khaimah with a desert departure at the foot of Jebel Jais. It then heads to Umm Al Quwain and north across the desert again to almost reach Ras Al Khaimah before heading to Marjan Island for the final sprint. The entire route takes place on wide, well-paved and essentially straight roads through the desert where wind and sometimes sand can affect the peloton.

UAE Tour 2022 Stage 6

Stage 6 — Expo 2020 Dubai Stage — Expo 2020 Dubai (180km)

The city stage of Dubai, departing from Expo 2020 Dubai. The first part of the stages takes place in the desert, touching familiar locations: Dubai Sports City, Al Qudra Cycletrack and the Silicon Oasis, until returning to the city at Meydan Racecourse. Crossing the city, the riders will then reach Jumeirah Road, Palm Jumeirah and the Jumeirah Islands before returning to Expo 2020 Dubai. The entire route takes place on very wide roads, essentially straight, interspersed with large and well-paved roundabouts. The riders may encounter some sand in case of wind during the desert sections.

UAE Tour 2022 Stage 7

Stage 7 — Mubadala Stage — Al Jahili Fort to Jebel Hafeet (148km)

This is the classic mountain stage of the UAE Tour. The first part of the stage follows the usual route around Al Ain, passing many of its well-known sights (Al Ain Zoo, Al Qattara, Al Hili, Al Ain Oasis) before returning after a long desert loop to Green Mubazzarah where the closing 10km climb up Jebel Hafeet is the final ‘judge’ of the race.

Destination Must-See's

UAE ms1

Originally known for its oil, Dubai is now famous for its trade and tourism and has made history as one of the fastest growing cities in the world. Shopping in Dubai is especially popular and highly recommended. If you’re not into shopping, Dubai offers plenty of opportunities to soak up the sun on the beach, too.

UAE ms2

Abu Dhabi is known as the “Garden City” and is home to the highest peak in the country. A highlight of any visit to Abu Dhabi is a trip to the Al Ain Zoo. It was once a royal hunting preserve, but you can still see cheetahs, hyenas, Arabian oryx and many other animals running wild there. Abu Dhabi is a city on the move and has big plans to increase its tourist appeal. Soon, there will be a performing arts center and three museums to add to their indoor theme park, grand mosque, and grand prix.

UAE ms3

Artificial Islands:

The Palm Islands were created to maximize the availability of highly desirable beachfront property in Dubai. The islands are designed to look like a palm tree which makes for a fun sight from the air, but it’s even more fun to visit the island’s hotels, beaches, shopping malls and theme parks from the ground.

UAE ms4

Sheikh Zayed Mosque:

A landmark in Abu Dhabi, it was the vision of the first president of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), but wasn’t completed until after his death in 2004. It’s the largest mosque in the UAE and holds what is possibly the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet.

Destination Must-Do's

UAE md1

Oman desert on 4x4 vehicles:

Ask any native and they’ll tell you that one of the best ways to get around in Oman is on a 4x4. They’re a fun way to reach places that are so far off the beaten path that no other mode of transport can get you there.

UAE md2

Oman Grand Mosque:

This is the only mosque open to non-Muslims in Oman. It’s also amongst one of the largest mosques in the gulf. The building itself is made with beautiful white and red-brown marble, but it’s the spacious gardens bisected by water channels on the way into the mosque that make an indelible impression on visitors.

UAE md3

Emirates Building:

These buildings have become iconic symbols of Dubai. They hold a little bit of everything including dining and accommodations right in the heart of the city’s commercial business district.

UAE md4

World’s Tallest Building:

Located in Dubai, Burj Khalifa is the tallest man-made structure in the world. It holds a multitude of world records like: most floors in a building, world’s highest restaurant, world’s highest nightclub, world’s longest elevator travel distance, and most powerful and biggest automated fountain. The word “impressive” doesn’t even begin to cover it.

Expert Advice

diana

Be aware of what you are taking photos of. It is important that you ask permission before photographing people. You should avoid photographing Muslim women, government or military buildings, airports, docks, or telecommunications equipment.

UAE e2

The UAE is a very conservative culture. Because of this you should have modest clothing and behavior to show respect to the Muslim culture. Bikinis, swimsuits, shorts and revealing tops should be worn at the beach resorts only.

UAE e3

Laws in the UAE are much different than other areas in the world, especially in relation to alcohol and social behavior. Be respectful and conscious with how you act and what you do.

How to Pick the Best Abu Dhabi Tour from Dubai (+Our Experience)

Thinking of visiting Abu Dhabi from Dubai for a day and wondering which tour to choose? We had the exact same question on our recent trip – what is the best Abu Dhabi tour from Dubai?

After several hours of research, comparing dozens of itineraries, and reading hundreds of reviews, I can tell you that the choice is overwhelming. There are hundreds of Abu Dhabi tours from Dubai, with widely varying itineraries. You have to read in detail which places you actually visit and which are not more than a quick photo stop. Furthermore, often they also list the sights which you only pass by…

You’ll find private tours and (small) group tours, full-day tours, or those that only take a couple of hours… There is one thing in common – pretty much all Abu Dhabi tours from Dubai visit Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. But the rest of the itinerary can vary from short stops at some local low-key markets to thorough visits to some of the most impressive landmarks…

In this article, we share our hand-picked selection of Abu Dhabi tours that we shortlisted for our own trip , as well as a detailed description of the tour we ultimately chose. I hope that this guide will save you time and help you choose the best tour from Dubai to Abu Dhabi and have a truly unforgettable experience.

TIP: If you don’t want to read the entire article and simply want to see the best of Abu Dhabi on a day trip from Dubai, we recommend this highly-rated tour . It’s the tour that we chose and it was perfect. It brings you to the three main landmarks in Abu Dhabi – Sheikh Zayed Mosque, Etihad Towers, and Qasr Al Watan – and you actually get to visit each of these places and not just pass by or see from a distance, as with many other tours.

Best guided tours to Abu Dhabi from Dubai - helpful info and tips based on personal experience and research

Why Visit & What to See on Abu Dhabi Day Trip

Abu Dhabi is the capital city of the United Arab Emirates. It’s also the richest of the seven emirates, home to some of the most prestigious projects and remarkable architectural landmarks. So no trip to the UAE would be complete without at least a short introduction to this beautiful city!

Just like Dubai, Abu Dhabi is a quickly growing city with many new attractions, one more impressive than the other. So you have to understand that there is no way to see all the best places in Abu Dhabi on a day trip from Dubai. There are simply too many options and you would need several days in Abu Dhabi if you want to see all the top sights.

So when looking for a day tour to Abu Dhabi from Dubai, you have to decide which of the top sights and attractions you absolutely do not want to miss. Once you make the choice, it becomes easier to pick the right tour that fits your interests.

Here are some of the TOP attractions in Abu Dhabi:

  • Sheikh Zayed Mosque – the most famous landmark in Abu Dhabi, included in pretty much all Abu Dhabi tours.
  • Qasr Al Watan – UAE Presidential Palace (sometimes also referred to as the Royal Palace) – an actual visit inside is only included with very few tours.
  • Etihad Towers . Many tours pass here, but only a few include a visit to the Observation Deck.
  • Louvre Abu Dhabi – the largest museum in the Gulf region, among others, displaying artworks from The Louvre and other top museums in Paris . There are just a few tours that visit here.
  • Yas Island where you can find the following theme parks: Ferrari World , Yas Waterworld , Warner Bros. World , and SeaWorld . This is not the best place to visit on a day trip since you could easily spend a day at each of these theme parks and still not see it all. So if tours from Dubai include Yas Island in their itinerary, at best, it’s a half-day visit to Ferrari World (most tours that mention Ferrari World, usually only stop for a picture at the parking in front of it).

Here are some additional sights sometimes included in some Abu Dhabi tours:

  • Abu Dhabi Corniche – a waterfront road with bike paths and a nice pedestrian promenade. Most tours just pass by here.
  • Founders Memorial – a monument. Most tours just pass by here.
  • Emirates Palace – this luxury hotel (full name – Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental ) is one of the most expensive hotels ever built. Some tours include a visit, but most just drive by.

Good to know: The best Abu Dhabi day tours include a visit to 2-3 of the ‘TOP attractions’. Depending on the tour and how much time you spend at the main landmarks, they sometimes include one or two short stops at some of the ‘additional sights’ listed above.

However, some tours only seem to offer great value at first sight. When you look deeper, you realize that the majority of your time will be spent in the car or with short stops at ‘cultural’ attractions, such as a vegetable and dates market, Abu Dhabi Heritage Village, or local art galleries. While this could be a nice addition to the main sights, there are so many better things to do with just a day in Abu Dhabi than spend your precious time shopping… So choose your tour wisely!

Below, you can find our hand-picked selection of the best Abu Dhabi tours from Dubai.

Best Abu Dhabi Tours from Dubai

As I said, there are so many Abu Dhabi tours from Dubai that the choice can look daunting. Based on the research I did for our recent trip, I made a selection of just a few VERY BEST options. This was my personal shortlist.

Here are some of the best-rated Abu Dhabi tours from Dubai , with a short overview of just the main landmarks that you actually visit:

  • Premium Full-Day Sightseeing Tour (+-9-10 hrs). Includes a visit to Sheikh Zayed Mosque, Etihad Towers, and Qasr Al Watan. This is the tour we chose and can highly recommend if you want to see the most important landmarks of Abu Dhabi in a day. You can also book this same tour including lunch at a traditional restaurant (we had lunch there too and it was excellent).
  • Full Day Tour with Ferrari World (+-10 hrs). This tour includes a visit to Sheikh Zayed Mosque and Ferrari World, as well as a stop at Heritage Village. If you want to see the Mosque and ride some of the fastest rollercoasters in the world, this is by far the best tour. Most others only include a photo stop at Ferrari World.
  • Full Day Trip with Mosque & Louvre (+- 9hrs). Includes a visit to Sheikh Zayed Mosque and Louvre Abu Dhabi.
  • Half Day Tour (+- 5hrs). This popular tour only visits the famous Sheikh Zayed Mosque. It’s a good option if you are really short on time.

Good to know: Most of the tours listed here are small-group tours, but they are also available as private tours . You can choose from different options once you select the number of people and travel dates.

Further below, you can read a short review of the tour that we chose and see some more pictures of the places that we visited on this Abu Dhabi day trip.

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi UAE

Review of Our Abu Dhabi Sightseeing Tour from Dubai

As already mentioned, we chose this highly-rated guided tour for our Dubai to Abu Dhabi day trip.

Just to be clear – we do not organize these tours or have anything to do with the company that runs them. Like you, we are just travelers who do their own research, pay for the experiences we like to have, and hope that we made the right choice.

This Abu Dhabi tour was not cheap, but it brings you to the most impressive places in Abu Dhabi. We felt that it offers really good value. If you want to see the most important landmarks of Abu Dhabi in just a day, then you really cannot go wrong with this tour.

Here is what our Abu Dhabi tour looked like:

Pick up in Dubai & Drive to Abu Dhabi

We booked the tour starting at 8:45 AM. The evening before the tour, I received a WhatsApp message from the tour company informing us that they would pick us up at 8:15 AM.

The driver was on time and we stopped to pick up two other people along the way. He then brought us all to yet another hotel where we transferred to a small bus (our group had 18 people).

Good to know: The drive from Dubai to Abu Dhabi normally takes about 1.5 hours, but it can also take much longer due to busy traffic. The same on the way back.

PRO TIP: When booking a full-day tour from Dubai to Abu Dhabi, don’t make any other plans for that day – that way, you don’t have to worry about busy traffic or potential delays. If you are planning a half-day trip , I would also foresee some buffer time, or opt for an afternoon tour (or a ‘sunset’ tour, as they call it) – that way, you can still do something else in Dubai in the morning.

Abu Dhabi Corniche

Drive through Abu Dhabi

On the way to Abu Dhabi, our guide informed us that we would start our tour with Qasr Al Watan Royal Palace and visit Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque at the end of the day. This is because there was a big cruise ship in town and since pretty much all visitors go to the Mosque, it’s extremely crowded in the morning.

This was a good decision, indeed. By the time we got to the Mosque, it was just pleasantly lively. I can’t imagine what it must look like in the mornings when several gigantic cruise ships are visiting.

On the way to the President’s Palace, we passed Yas Island and could see the famous Ferrari World and other attractions in the distance. We also saw Saadiyat Island with the Abu Dhabi Louvre – also from quite far away. Once in the city center, we drove past the Corniche – Dubai waterfront – and saw the Founders Memorial as well as the Emirati Palace.

You only get to see all these places from the bus, but it gives you an idea of what Abu Dhabi is like.

Emirates Palace Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Abu Dhabi

Qasr Al Watan

Abu Dhabi’s Presidential Palace sits in a huge opulent complex by the sea overlooking the city in the distance. The main highlight here is Qasr Al Watan .

This magnificent palace might remind you of the famous Taj Mahal in India, but this one was built just recently – between 2010 – 2017. Its architecture and grandeur will take your breath away!

The palace was built using some of the finest materials including Italian marble, gold, Swarovski crystals, and gigantic handmade carpets. It is absolutely magnificent and I would even say that it’s one of the most beautiful buildings on the planet.

Quite frankly, I don’t understand why it’s not as popular as the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. These two places are just as impressive and both are absolutely not to be missed in Abu Dhabi!

Qasr Al Watan - one of the main landmarks in Abu Dhabi UAE

Our tour guide gave us a short introduction to the Palace and explained where to find the ‘must sees’. After that, we had about more than an hour to explore the palace and its grounds on our own.

This is something I really liked about this tour – we got just plenty of information, but also plenty of free time at each of the landmarks visited.

Good to know: While it is a working palace, it’s mostly used for ceremonial functions and big political gatherings. So the palace is open to the public, except if there is some special political event or a visit by another head of state.

You will have to go through airport-style security here, but you can simply leave all your belongings on the tour bus and just take your camera with you.

Qasr Al Watan Royal Palace of UAE - Abu Dhabi tour from Dubai

Etihad Towers

The next stop on our itinerary was the Observation Deck at the Etihad Towers . There are five skyscrapers here, of varying height. We were told that the five towers represent unity, like the five fingers of a hand. I also read somewhere that they refer to several important Arabic symbols, such as falconry and swords.

In addition to their unique architecture and symbolism, Etihad Towers offer stunning 360° views of the city and the Arabian Gulf from the Observation Deck at 300 meters . It’s located on the 74th floor of Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers Hotel .

The views from here are spectacular and – in my opinion – more impressive than from most of the viewpoints in Dubai, including the views from Burj Khalifa.

Right below, you can see the entire Presidential Palace complex as well as the Emirates Palace and several other luxury hotels, including Rixos Marina Abu Dhabi which looks like a copy of the famous Atlantis The Palm in Dubai . The seashore and Corniche make the views even more special.

Good to know: Etihad Towers Observation Deck is supposedly just a short stop of about half an hour, out of which you have about 15 minutes to enjoy the views at the top (which sounds little but is actually plenty). However, depending on the queue at the elevators, it might take longer.

View from Etihad Towers Observation Deck - Abu Dhabi day trip from Dubai

After the visit to Etihad Towers, we drove to Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque. There is an underground mall here – Souq Al Jami – where you can find a big food court with a wide variety of restaurants.

Before we headed for lunch, our guide quickly checked if everyone was dressed ‘acceptably’ for the Mosque visit and went to get some Abaya (long black dress) and scarves for women.

If you wear long pants/skirt, a blouse that covers your arms completely, and have a scarf to cover your hair, you don’t need this dress. But if your clothes are just not long enough or see-through (even a bit), they recommend wearing the Abaya. So I opted for that, just to be safe.

If you choose the tour that includes lunch , you will have a traditional lunch at the Michelin-star Al Khayma Heritage Restaurant. Otherwise, you can decide where you want to eat when you get there. You will find all the famous fast-food chains here as well as Italian and Mexican restaurants, etc. However, it’s your chance to try some really good Arabian food so we recommend that you go to Al Khayma.

We had lunch at this restaurant, following our guide’s recommendation and everything was delicious.

I read in some reviews that people felt lunch was a bit rushed, but we had about 1h15 which was plenty. I even found the time to quietly put on the Abaya before meeting the guide at the agreed time and place.

Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

Sheikh Zayed Mosque is the most famous landmark in Abu Dhabi and a must-see! It’s the finest example of Islamic architecture and is absolutely breathtaking, both outside as well as inside.

As a non-Muslim, you can only visit part of the Mosque, but no worries – you can see the most impressive parts. You are also allowed to view the main worship hall which is nothing short of remarkable.

Here, you can see the world’s largest hand-knotted carpet, ornate decorations, and several impressive Swarovski chandeliers. It’s also incredibly spacious and can accommodate about 40,000 people inside!

If you are a Muslim, you can also go to pray inside, but during the week, the main hall seemed to be empty. The main prayer hall is closed to visitors between noon and 3 pm on Fridays, so tours try to visit before or after that.

Abu Dhabi tour from Dubai - Sheikh Zayed Mosque

As mentioned earlier, the Grand Mosque is one place that is included in all tour itineraries and is visited by pretty much every tourist who sets foot in Abu Dhabi, even if just for a few hours. This means that the Mosque is always extremely busy. Tickets have to be reserved in advance, for a specific time slot, etc.

Because of really bad traffic in Dubai on the day of our visit (it rained the day before which only happens a few times a year and leaves the area in chaos :)), we were way too late for the time slot booked. No worries, though. Everything was rearranged by the tour company while we were having lunch.

We entered without any wait at all and our guide made sure that we had plenty of time inside the Mosque (about 15-20 minutes with a guide and more than an hour on our own).

I liked that they didn’t rush us or cut the tour short and gave us the full experience. This meant that we were back in Dubai later than planned but that was no big deal since it was a full-day trip anyway.

Good to know: Also here, you will have to go through airport-style security. As mentioned before, there is a dress code as well. In general, they recommend long, loose ankle-length trousers or skirts. As a minimum, for men, shoulders and knees have to be covered. For women, the rules are stricter and you have to cover up everything except your face, hands, and feet (which means that sandals are ok).

Our tour provided Abaya dresses and scarves for women, which just made things simpler.

Drive back to Dubai

After our visit to the Mosque, the shuttle brought us back to Dubai. There was plenty of time to rest (or even sleep) on the bus.

Just as in the morning, the bus dropped us off at a place where they had private drivers waiting to take everyone back to their hotels. This way, nobody had to wait longer than necessary. The tour was really well organized and I couldn’t fault anything.

The only issues we had that day were related to exceptionally hard rain that left the roads blank and resulted in really bad traffic. Knowing that it only rains a few days per year in the UAE, the risk of you encountering the same is pretty low. Still, as mentioned before, I wouldn’t make any other plans for the evening – that will make your tour more relaxed.

Abu Dhabi Tour with Kids

If you are travelling with children and wonder if you can do a day tour to Abu Dhabi with kids, my answer is yes, of course. Most tours allow children of any age.

However, which tour to choose also depends on your family situation, how many kids you have, how old they are, etc. In addition, consider how well your children can handle a long bus ride, explore the landmarks, and – not to underestimate – practicalities such as the heat or not being able to use the bathroom or eat whenever they fancy.

That being said, if you can keep the kids busy in the car for 1.5- 2 hours and they can behave at the Mosque or the Presidential Palace, I see no reason why you couldn’t take them.

We did this Abu Dhabi tour with teens and – while they were the only kids in our group – we had no issues whatsoever. They were also truly fascinated by the incredible architecture we saw and truly enjoyed the day (having their phones for the long ride definitely helped though).

When I asked them about their top experiences on this trip, the Abu Dhabi day trip was in their top 3, together with a camel ride in the Dubai desert and a boat ride on the Burj Lake . They also really enjoyed Atlantis Aquaventure Waterpark but ‘ranked’ the Abu Dhabi day trip as a more special experience.

TIP: If you want to take a day trip from Dubai to Abu Dhabi with children, consider booking a private tour. As already mentioned, pretty much all the tours we listed in this article can also be booked as private tours. It will be much more relaxing and you will spend less time in the car since they will pick you up from the hotel and drive directly to Abu Dhabi rather than gathering the whole group in a bus.

Alternatively, look into tours that visit the Mosque and maybe Ferrari World or one of the other theme parks on Yas Island (e.g. this tour ). That way, your tour has something for everyone in the family. That said, with very young kids, consider height restrictions for rollercoasters and similar.

Practical Info & Tips for Abu Dhabi Tours

Here is some additional information you may want to know when considering a tour from Dubai to Abu Dhabi:

  • Most Abu Dhabi tours from Dubai include a pick-up/drop-off at your hotel . Keep in mind that the pick-up time can be up to an hour earlier than the official tour starting time (the same as the drop-off).
  • Pretty much all tours in the UAE include drinking water (on our tour, there was a large cool box full of water on the bus).
  • Keep in mind that entry to Sheikh Zayed Mosque might be restricted at certain times of the day during Islamic holidays and also on Fridays. Qasr Al Watan might also be closed if there are any political meetings at the palace. That’s another advantage of going with a tour – they know the schedules and adjust the visit. Still, you can never exclude a tiny chance of some last-minute changes when visiting places like that.
  • Some Abu Dhabi tours also include Abaya dresses for women at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, but that’s not always the case. So be sure to double-check that in the tour description if you need one.
  • There is no strict dress code at other places in Abu Dhabi, only at the Mosque. However, if you are visiting the Presidential Palace, they also recommend loose long pants or a skirt and a modest blouse/shirt that covers your shoulders.
  • Take some sunscreen lotion and sunglasses with you. A sun hat can be a good idea as well.
  • Pack only what you need – it will be easier to go through security checks everywhere. Furthermore, you can safely leave other belongings (food, sunscreen lotion, etc.) on the tour bus.
  • There are free bathroom facilities at all the sights we visited on this tour, but not on a bus. They also don’t stop anywhere along the way.
  • You get about 60-75 minutes for lunch on this tour, but depending on the traffic, it can be quite late in the day. So if you need some more energy during the day, pack some small snacks with you.

PRO TIP: There’s one thing we noticed when booking our tour to Abu-Dhabi is that on some days, prices were much higher than on others (this could be related to school holidays, public holidays, and similar). So if you are somewhat flexible, check a few different dates when booking the tour – sometimes, travelling a day earlier or later might save you quite some money.

United Arab Emirates is surely a part of any traveler's bucket list, mesmerizing the world with its skyscrapers, expensive hotels, fancy malls, and an incredible coastline. UAE is an outstanding architectural gallery, home to some of the world's top resorts and hotels. Experience the best of the UAE on your luxury trip, from the stunning Palm Islands to the captivating Sir Bani Yas.

This multicultural city, Abu Dhabi, offers something for everyone, regardless of age or interest, from searing deserts to serene nature, exquisite architecture, Islamic cultural magnificence, and year-round sunlight. There are always intriguing, captivating, and amusing things to do in Abu Dhabi.

Dubai, which arose from the Arabian desert, is a city full of ambition, with mega malls, the world's tallest buildings, and the world's largest artificial islands! Dubai's summers may be extremely hot, therefore the best time to visit is between November and January to enjoy the beautiful skies and picture-perfect beach weather.

Liwa is a thrilling place with a variety of interesting and breathtaking activities. Liwa has something to offer everyone, whether you've visited before or are here for the first time. The Liwa Oasis is a collection of oasis or settlements in the United Arab Emirates. Liwa is home to a collection of Bedouin villages scattered across the oasis on the Rub Al Khali's northern outskirts. You can either visit Liwa on weekends or arrange an extended vacation there.

Al Ain, which means 'the spring' in Arabic, has a long history of providing relief from the desert heat to tired camel trekkers in the form of fresh water and shade under luxuriant palm trees. Both expatriates and locals will find Al Ain to be a relatively safe and secure city, but caution should be given when following local customs. The United Arab Emirates are conservative, but while Dubai and Abu Dhabi have become more westernized in recent years, Al Ain has remained conservative.

UAE club pros bidding for Challenge Tour spots

A host of club professionals across the UAE are bidding to qualify for a spot in the two Challenge Tour events in Abu Dhabi next month, with the Emirates PGA offering three different routes into the Abu Dhabi Challenge or UAE Challenge.

The winner of next month’s Emirates PGA Championship, which is being held at Yas Links and Saadiyat Beach Golf Club, and the champion of the season-long Order of Merit will receive an invite into both Challenge Tour events.

There will also be one spot available into one of the events through the Emirates PGA Play-Offs, which comprises the final four events on the Order of Merit at Montgomerie Golf Club, Tower Links Golf Club, Dubai Hills Golf Club and the Emirates PGA Championship.

The player with the lowest combined score from those four events will secure their place alongside the game’s rising starts, with the Emirates Golf Federation’s Faycal Serghini currently leading the way on -3.

The Moroccan, who has played several times on the DP World Tour, finished runner-up in the tournaments at Montgomerie Golf Club and Tower Links Golf Club, carding 71 and 70 respectively.

Thomas Ogilvie sits two strokes behind in second on the Play-Offs, with the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club professional claiming victory at Tower Links Golf Club to surge up the rankings after carding 74 in the first counting event at Montgomerie Golf Club.

The next tournament at Dubai Hills Golf Club gets underway on March 25th, with the season-ending Emirates PGA Championship played over two days between April 1st and 2nd.

The pros will be hoping to follow in the footsteps of Louis Gaughan, who fired rounds of 71 and 69 at last year’s Emirates PGA Championship to secure his spot in the Abu Dhabi Challenge.

The PGA Professional at Dubai Hills Golf Club went on to make the cut at Abu Dhabi Golf Club before finishing in a share of 54th in his first start on the Challenge Tour.

The Abu Dhabi Challenge (April 18-21) at Al Ain Equestrian Golf & Shooting Club and the UAE Challenge (April 25-28) at Saadiayt Beach Golf Club are part of the European Tour group’s long-term partnership with the Emirates Golf Federation (EGF), which aims to develop golf in the United Arab Emirates for at least the next decade.

Thirty spots in each of those tournaments will be allocated to the EGF to help create playing opportunities and provide a pathway for local amateurs and pros as well as UAE National Team players.

The EGF can also trade these places with other federations across the world to give their players an opportunity to play in Challenge Tour events overseas.

The Challenge Tour, which is the official feed Tour to the DP World Tour, has developed into a proven training ground for the stars of the future, with the likes of Matt Fitzpatrick and Justin Rose starting their careers on the circuit before going on to become Major champions.

Some thing I didn’t like being at the mall for so long. Sea aquarium can see that at home. Loved the tallest building still there at the mall to long. loved shopping at Gold souk and going to the Mosque. Hated Aaya universe like something for kids. The Museum was a joke while we was there they argued about money between themselves. Didn’t get to see the culture until we went to mosque and gold souk market .

We were met at the airport by the local representative company, Arabian Adventures, and we’re fast tracked through immigration and quickly taken to our hotel. The desert tour was exceptional, racing over dunes, watching the setting sun, camel riding and a wonderful BBQ under the stars. The guides on the city tour of Dubai, Abu Dhabi and East Coast were very knowledgeable. There was a perfect balance of free time and tours. The Howard Johnson was very clean, offered buffet breakfast and was a great location close to the old cultural centres, souks and public transit

My Dubai tour was an unforgettable adventure that left me utterly mesmerized. The desert safari was a true highlight, where the golden dunes stretched as far as the eye could see. The exhilarating dune bashing experience was followed by a serene sunset, creating a picturesque moment etched in my memory forever. My tour guide’s (Azim from India) deep knowledge and enthusiasm added an extra layer of depth to the experience while touring the city. I did the tour in June weather was extreme hot, but I enjoyed the tour all lot. Week-long vacation in Dubai is very much recommended to cover most of the activities and tourist destinations. All of the tour guides were excellent and very knowledgeable. My only issues were that we paid for a 5 star hotel and we got a 4 star hotel. I let a representative know about this hotel discrepancy and nothing was done or corrected. It was never addressed. Also, we were not informed that we would not be seeing certain listed sites until I asked why we didn't see them. I was then told they were closed due to Covid. Those sites are still listed in the online brochure and thus included in the price.

Reviews of united arab emirates tours.

Sehr viel gesehen, sehr gute Organisation, gutes Essen, ausgezeichneter Reiseleiter, insgesamt sehr zufriedenstellend.

  • This tour visits the United Arab Emirates (plus Oman on the tour extension). In order to enter these countries, U.S. and Canadian citizens need a valid passport with an expiration date extending at least six months beyond the date of reentry.
  • We recommend having at least two blank passport pages for entry stamps.
  • There is no visa required for U.S. or Canadian citizens. (On the tour extension, an Omani visa is not required for stays less than 14 days.)
  • If you are not a U.S. or Canadian citizen, you must contact each country’s consulate for your specific entry requirements.
  • You can see the most up-to-date entry requirements for the destination(s) you’ll visit on tour by going to goaheadtours.com/entry-requirements and searching the code UAE.
  • You will walk for about 2 hours daily across moderately uneven terrain, including unpaved roads and desert paths, with some hills and stairs.
  • Travelers should be healthy enough to participate in all included walks without assistance. Adding optional excursions may increase the total amount of walking on your tour.
  • You should feel comfortable managing your own luggage at times, as well as getting in and out of boats and small vehicles.
  • Go Ahead Tours and the Tour Director who accompanies your group are unable to provide special, individual mobility assistance to travelers on tour. The responsibility of the Tour Director is to ensure the group as a whole enjoys a relaxing and informative journey, and he or she cannot be relied upon to provide ongoing, individualized assistance to any one traveler.
  • If you have any mobility concerns or physical restrictions, please contact our Customer Experience Team.
  • You will have a different Tour Director in Oman on the tour extension.
  • Round-trip flights booked through Go Ahead Tours arrive in and depart from Dubai (or Muscat, Oman for the tour extension). A representative from Go Ahead Tours will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel. Please remain in the arrival lounge, as the representative might be escorting one of your fellow travelers to the bus at the time of your arrival.
  • Transfers to and from the airport at your destination are included for travelers who have purchased their flights through Go Ahead Tours. Travelers who purchase their own flights may request airport transfers with Go Ahead Tours for an additional cost.
  • All other included transportation on this tour is by private motor coach.
  • Please note that our travelers are limited to one checked bag and one carry-on bag per person due to storage limitations on motor coaches and other transfers, which may include train connections or flights.
  • Contact your airline(s) for baggage size and weight restrictions for your flights, which may include on-tour flights in addition to your round-trip flights to and from tour. Please note that your included on-tour flights may have more restrictive baggage limits.
  • Some airlines may impose additional charges if you choose to check any baggage or exceed baggage size and weight restrictions. Be advised that you are responsible for any baggage fees incurred on all flights.
  • Make sure you label your baggage and keep valuables, medication, and documents in your carry-on bag.
  • While Dubai and Abu Dhabi are considered to be more liberal than some neighboring cities, local customs concerning dress are strict and should be respected. Bare shoulders and knees are considered inappropriate in public places, though swimwear at beaches and pools is acceptable.
  • Loose-fitting, breathable clothing can help keep you cooler in desert heat. Cotton, linen, or a quick-dry material is best for hot days outside, though a light scarf or extra layer may be needed for chillier evenings and early mornings.
  • You may want supportive walking sandals to keep cool on city sightseeing. Comfortable closed-toes shoes, such as sneakers or lightweight hiking boots, are best for activities in the desert.
  • Sun protection is very important. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses and a broad-brimmed hat to protect your face and the back of your neck from the sun.
  • You may want to pack dressier attire if you plan to visit a high-end restaurant or attend a special performance.
  • It is preferable not to visit mosques or other religious sites with bare legs and shoulders (and entrance may be denied on this basis). In addition, we recommend women bring a light scarf as they may have to cover their heads and hair to order to enter mosques.
  • At least 60 days prior to departure, check with your doctor or healthcare provider for the latest updates and entry requirements, or visit the Center for Disease Control and Prevention website at cdc.gov.
  • If you have medication that you take daily, be sure you have enough for each day of the tour as well as any possible delays encountered. Additionally, travelers must check to see if they need to apply for approval to travel with certain medications while in the United Arab Emirates with the Ministry of Health .
  • Temperatures in this region often exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit (30 degrees Celsius), especially during the summer months. Drinking plenty of water, limiting your alcohol intake and using proper sun protection is extremely important in order to prevent the effects of dehydration and heat stroke.
  • Be sure to take proper care for sun exposure by regularly applying sunscreen or covering up with long, loose-fitting layers.
  • There are inherent risks associated with water activities, particularly for those with preexisting medical conditions. Discuss your planned activities with your doctor or healthcare provider for the best advice on participation.
  • If you have dietary restrictions and/or food allergies please notify Go Ahead Tours at least 30 days prior to your departure by logging in to your account and updating your traveler info. To update this information closer to your departure date, please call our Customer Experience Team.
  • The United Arab Emirates (and Oman on the tour extension) is an Islamic country that follows Sharia law. While both Dubai and Abu Dhabi are considered more liberal than some neighboring cities, it’s important to note that very conservative laws governing public behavior are strictly enforced.
  • Among these laws are prohibitions against public displays of affection. Hand-holding is permissible, but kissing and other affectionate displays are expressly forbidden, even between married couples.
  • Obscenity laws are also upheld throughout the country. Offenses for using foul language and making indecent gestures are punishable by jail time.
  • The United Arab Emirates reflects its diverse history in its cuisine. Asian, Moroccan, and Levantine influences feature heavily, as do spices brought through the country by trade routes. Saffron, cardamom, and turmeric flavor many meals.
  • Fresh seafood and one-pot dishes, like fareeth, a stew made with vegetables and bread, and al harees, a porridge of barley and meat, are popular recipes.
  • In Oman (on the tour extension), you’ll find African and Indian cuisine reflected in many traditional recipes. Coconut, berries, and nutmeg are ingredients not often found in Middle Eastern dishes, but which play a big role in Omani kitchens. Don’t miss madrouba , a slow-cooked dish made with rice, chicken, and dried Persian limes.
  • At very traditional meals, diners eat with their hands, sometimes using pieces of flatbread to scoop up portions of food. Don’t be afraid to dig in!
  • Consumption of alcohol is strictly regulated throughout the country. Alcoholic beverages may only be served to non-Muslim visitors at certain licensed hotels and restaurants.
  • The United Arab Emirates operates on the European standard 220–240 volts and uses a Type G plug with three pins.
  • Oman (on the tour extension) operates on the European standard 220–240 volts and uses a Type C or G plug with two or three pins, respectively.
  • We recommend packing a universal adapter, as well as a voltage converter if you plan on using your own hairdryer or other electrical device without a built-in converter.
  • Air conditioning in Emirati hotels may be much cooler than what you might be used to in the U.S. or Canada. When air conditioning is available, it is usually regulated seasonally and controlled centrally by the hotel.
  • Your hotels may provide hairdryers, irons, and other small appliances. However, these amenities cannot be guaranteed.
  • Wi-Fi is available in most hotels, though some charges may apply.
  • There is no Wi-Fi on any of the motor coaches.
  • Please contact your mobile service provider for information on roaming charges.
  • The United Arab Emirates is four hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and eight hours ahead of Eastern Time (ET).
  • When it’s noon in New York City, it’s 8pm on tour.
  • You will use the United Arab Emirates dirham in Dubai and Abu Dhabi (plus the Omani rial in Oman on the tour extension).
  • Better rates of exchange are usually available overseas, although it’s worth ordering some currency from your local bank to use when you first arrive.
  • We strongly advise that you take debit/bank cards and credit cards, which can be used to withdraw cash at local banks, as needed.
  • You can use most debit/credit cards at ATMs on the international networks Cirrus and Plus, but make sure to check with your home bank about withdrawal fees.
  • Inform your bank and credit card company of your travel plans, so that they won’t confuse your international purchases for fraudulent charges.
  • International banks and businesses primarily accept debit and credit cards that work with the EMV chip system. If you do not already have at least one debit or credit card with a chip in it, we strongly recommend requesting one from your bank prior to your tour.
  • At the conclusion of your tour, it’s customary to offer your Tour Director and driver a gratuity in local currency. Please keep current exchange rates in mind.
  • We recommend tipping the equivalent of $10USD to $12USD per person per day for your Tour Director and the equivalent of $3USD per person per day for your driver.
  • If applicable, we also recommend the equivalent of $2USD per local guide.
  • Tips can only be paid in cash.
  • Most optional excursions will be available for purchase while you are on tour.
  • Your Tour Director will only accept cash (in USD only), Visa, or MasterCard as payment for excursions.
  • Please be advised that if you pay for an excursion by credit card while on tour, it may take up to three months for your card to be charged.
  • Some optional excursions may only be purchased in advance. See page four of your tour itinerary for more information.

Hatton pleasantly surprised after strong start in Abu Dhabi

Tyrrell Hatton was pleased to post a 66 as he got his mission to make Rolex Series history off to a strong start at the 2022 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship .

Tyrrell Hatton

The defending champion arrived at Yas Links looking for a fifth win in the blue riband events to take him past the record total he shares with World Number One Jon Rahm, and an opening bogey-free 66 saw him sit at the right end of the lederboard after 18 holes.

Hatton revealed he had struggled for motivation to work out and practise in the second half of 2021 but after returning to the gym in the new year, he was happy to get a good score out of a round where he did not feel he was at his best.

"I am a little bit surprised," he said. "Start of the new year, you don't really know where your game is at until you play in tournament golf so, to be honest, I don't feel like I played like that great out there. I just scored really well.

"Obviously I'll take that, start of the year, six under, bogey-free is great.

"I wasn't in too much trouble. I had a couple of good two-putts from long range which helps with a little bit of momentum.

"Messed up a little bit on the second with a three-putt there but that was just a weird little short one that didn't do what I think it should have done. But overall, can't really complain, I guess.

"I just went out and tried to pick targets off the tee. I tried to score - that's how I visualise it on each tee, just trying to score as many goals as I can. I don't think I actually hit many fairways today but obviously got away with that.

"Hopefully I drive the ball a bit better tomorrow. We're going to have pretty windy conditions and I think I'm going to have to play a bit better than I did today."
