We very much enjoyed our tour with Tom and Courtney!! He was informative and fun!! We had plenty of time to explore the surroundings!!

Glacier

What a super pleasant and wonderful tour and tour guide!! Aiden was our driver and guide. It was like taking a bus ride with a college roomie, very laid back and chill. He was filled with cool facts about the area; about nature and about the town itself. Quite pleasant and friendly. We all very much enjoyed what he had to say. He kept it interesting and was very upbeat and even a bit humerous at times. Thank you, Aiden!! We took the tour out to Mendenhall Glacier and Gold Nugget waterfall. Highly recommend!! Saw lots of nature and many different wildlife. I missed a photo op on the way out to the glacier and asked that our driver point out the area on our way back so that I can snap a shot... he did that for me, which was pretty awesome. As you tour through Juneau, you'll learn of the best places to stop for eating and shopping and why places tend to be famous around town. If you are on a cruise ship, you'll pass by a great spot to get a photo of your ship across the bay shortly after you set out on your tour. Our bus stopped at a great sightseeing spot there, made for wonderful pix. Make sure you check out the trails around the stop. There is a short one that takes maybe 20 minutes and the walk out to the Falls takes about an hour (you're only there for an hour and a half). Aiden runs a tight bus... as any tour guide would.... please keep your voices down and make sure you are prompt at getting back on board the bus for the ride back. He may have been a few minutes late picking us up but we definitely all were there and ready to go! Thanks for a great tour!!

We were on an Alaskan cruise this previous May. We booked two shore excursions with Shore Excursions Group online rather than with our ship the Celebrity Millennium. We booked two tours: 1) the Mendenhall Glacier with Juneau city tour, and 2) the Skagway City and White Pass Summit tour. Our Mendenhall Glacier tour was at 8am. The meeting point was listed on our voucher. Said to meet at the pier closest to the mountain, the Railway Dock. Hmmm, our ship is no where near the mountain. But what the hey, we'll walk over. We walked about 10 minutes. Then our little voice kicked in. No, this can't be the right way. I called the 800# for Shore Excursions. Yep, our meeting point was in the parking lot right off the ship!!! The Celebrity dock was the dock furthest away from the mountain. Fortunately we had enough time to walk back to our ship and to the parking lot where Last Chance's van was parked. And other sightseers were already in the van. The lesson here - don't assume anything. Walk around the parking lot and check before heading off. We made it for our 8am start time with 10 minutes to spare. Later plenty of time for shopping in Juneau. Our Skagway tour went off without an hitch. However, the White Summit Pass was very cloudy and misty. You really couldn't make out much. And it doesn't take you to the Yukon Territory. That's way past the border. We'd been to Skagway before and to the Yukon Territory so not disappointing. But if you've never, read the tour description carefully before booking. Overall, both tours were good. And less expensive than the ship's and smaller group size. Had plenty of time for shopping in Skagway.

Four of us booked the Exclusive Juneau City and Mendenhall Glacier Tour. We were there at the Mt. Roberts Tramway building 30 minutes prior to the tour time of 4:30 pm We were actively looking for yellow and red "Last Chance Tours" sign as instructed. Our tour was at 4:30, so when 4:30 came and went, I called the emergency number in my tour packet. The woman I spoke to was unhelpful and told me I needed to call my local representative. I then did so at about 4:45. I spoke with Suparna, and she said she was sorry, but the tour had already left. I told her we were there since 4:00 and were looking for the tour and never saw it. She then blamed me by saying I was either late or in the wrong location (I followed the instructions precisely and was even early.) I was actively looking for the tour from about 4:15 - 4:40. While waiting for my tour, I spoke with several other tour representatives and even booked a last minute tour, so there were plenty of people that saw us there. I have the receipt from the backup tour we were forced to take, in case anyone cares. I even have the receipt from the Twisted Fish restaurant a full 90 minutes before the tour was to begin. (Again to show I was there, on time.) When I got back from my cruise, I called Suparna again and she had pretty much the same attitude. She told me there would be no refund, even though she found our booking numbers and was able to verify that we were not on the tour. Really quite disappointing. I will follow up with Shore Excursions Group LLC who hired Last Chance Tours. If they are unwilling to refund my purchase, I will take it up with Prestige Cruises from whom I booked the excursion. [Prestige Cruises subs out the excursions to Shore Excursions Group LLC who in turn hires the individual contract tours at each of the ports of call.] If all else fails, I will dispute the charge with my credit card. I'll post an updated review once this is resolved. PS. As a side note, my Alaska cruise was great! Prestige Cruises got us a great price, a bottle of wine, and an excellent dinner at one of the premium restaurants for each of our three booked rooms (six adults.) Also, all the other four tours we went on were perfect. There was just this one hiccup with Last Chance Tours.

We were deciding whether to just get the 'Blue bus' ticket to the Mendenhall Glacier or to take Last Chance Tours' Juneau/Douglas Island & Mendenhall Glacier Combo tour. The sales rep told us that we would have about a 1 hour city tour and about an hour at the glacier. We decided against the Blue bus due to some reports that we read of people being stranded at the Glacier parking area as the return trip on the Blue bus is not a reserved seat. By taking the tour, your return trip from the glacier to Juneau is reserved as you stay on the same bus for both the city tour and the trip to the glacier. Both the city tour and the trip to the glacier were fantastic. Our driver and tour guide, Phil, provided great insight into the Juneau's history & the culture of the area. I got a glimpse into what it might be like to live in SE Alaska. I really appreciated his enthusiasm and sense of humor. The hour that we had at the glacier was more than enough to walk to the beach at the base of the glacier (though it may not be enough time if you are a slower walker). Unlike the experience of the person writing the other recent review, the van that we were in was in excellent condition and looked to be quite new to me. I highly recommended Last Chance Tours' Juneau City/Glacier tour if you want to learn something about Juneau as well as seeing the Mendenhall Glacier.

We took the last chance tour with Aiden to see the glacier and waterfall in Juneau. I would not recommend ridIng with him. The start of the tour was pleasant, we got to the waterfall about two minutes behind, which Aiden acknowledged. We were given a specific amount of time to return to the bus by 11:30 with a 5 minte grace period. Upon entering the bus at 11:32 Aiden proceeded to get on the mic and lecture my family about being rude - even though we made the 11:35 departure time. Rude. Inconsiderate. And service in poor taste. Bryan at Skagway tours was a lot better. Aiden has to learn about customer service

Last Chance tours lives up to it's name. We were herded off of the cruise ship to the a mass of tour kiosks on the dock selling various tours. The original glacier helicopter tour we had booked got cancelled due to the inclement weather so we were desperate to find something to fill our time in Juneau. The tour company rep at the kiosk that we booked our original tour was apologetic and got us booked with Last Chance at a "discount" because of the inconvenience. Our tour guide was a cute local girl who was energetic and full of life. She told us her life story as part of the tour which was nice as it added a sense of a personal touch to the tour. She was the only bright side of the this operation. The van that she operated was a true beater. The van had a bad alternator and it was known to be bad. She said that she had stalled after she dropped us off at the glacier park. On the way back to town, we got stuck on the side of the road..The epitome of last chance. After being stranded for about 30 minutes by sheer luck, another tour company pulled over and let us ride back to town with them.. If it was not for them, we may have missed our port-call. Don't take a chance with Last Chance.....

Beth was our driver. She was born and raised in Juneau & knew the facts on every building and structure. Gave us details on the inner workings of Juneau. The very best tour driver I've experienced. Joe Giovannelli Vienna, Virginia June 2018

We were looking to take the $16 RT bus to see the Mendenhall Glacier and the Last Chance Tours booth convinced us to buy more expensive tickets by misrepresenting the tour (the booth was among the group of stands selling excursions near the cruise ships) . The sales rep showed us a laminated piece of paper with photos of gold rush ruins and a church, which she said we'd see, in addition to the glacier. I told her that the gold rush ruins sounded really interesting and that I'd like to pay the extra money to see it. You can imagine our disappointment when the only stops ended up being a small creek, a view of our cruise ship from across the water (how is this even a landmark??), and a view of the glacier from far away. Finally the van dropped us off at the glacier leaving us only 45 minutes to run the hike to the Gold Nugget Falls. Our guide/van driver (who was actually good and the one saving grace of the tour) said that the tour never stops at the gold rush ruins or the church! So the Last Chance Tours sales rep point blank lied to us in order to sell us the more expensive tickets. She also told us that Last Chance was the only company that had small vans for an intimate setting and the only company that had a live tour guide, which was not true. Yes we wasted money on this tour, but we were more upset about the time we lost. We were only in Juneau for a half day and we wasted 2.5 valuable hours on this tour.

My grandma and I just finished our first tour with Last Chance Tours and it was great! Kevin, our driver, was amazing at accommodating her wheelchair. He had great conversation and recommendations on what to do around the town. The hatchery was very cool and we were able to see some of the glaciers through the fog. I highly reccomend going through them!

Gold Creek and the Last Chance Mining Museum: Experience the Birthplace of Juneau

Take a step back in time with a beautiful drive to the Last Chance Mining Museum, located just 15 minutes from the cruise ship docks. The museum is housed in the old compressor building that served as a vital power source for the Last Chance Basin. The mine was one of Juneau’s first, and led to a population boom throughout its operation between 1912 and 1944. The basin provided one of Juneau’s largest gold finds, with approximately $80 million worth of gold produced by the camp. In 2020 dollars, that would be over $1 billion!

The museum is full of artifacts that are sure to leave you with a deeper understanding of the techniques, and dangers, miners faced as they toiled for the chance of a better life. Access to the museum does require a short walk on uneven terrain. While the slope is modest, you should wear comfortable shoes to avoid slipping. As you approach the museum, you’ll pass relics of old rail cars that have since been overgrown by Juneau’s lush green vegetation. If you look carefully, you will most likely find a marmot dodging in and out of the old cars. They aren’t camera shy, but like all animals, they need their space. Admission to the museum is $5, and there is a quaint gift shop inside for anyone that wants to bring home a piece of history.
