Luke Bryan Announces Massive Mind of a Country Boy 2024 North American Tour

The country superstar will be hitting the road this spring and summer with a handful of special guests

luke bryan tour chicago 2024

Luke Bryan is bringing fans the ultimate country music tour of the year.

On Friday, the country superstar, 47, announced that he’s hitting the road on the Mind of a Country Boy Tour later this year. He’ll be touring across North America throughout the spring and summer and bringing along a rotation of special guests.

Bryan’s latest touring effort includes a whopping 33 dates and even features two stadium shows. He’ll play one show at Truist Field in Atlanta, Georgia on Aug. 17 where he’ll be joined by Bailey Zimmerman , Chayce Beckham and Kameron Marlowe and another at Chicago’s iconic Wrigley Field on Aug. 25, with Zimmerman and Beckham returning as support, along with Tracy Lawrence.

As the ACM Award winner is known for bringing rising country acts out on the road with him, he’ll be bringing a huge roster along the tour, in addition to Beckham, Lawrence, Marlowe and Zimmerman. The support slate is also set to include Alana Springsteen , Chase Matthew , Dillon Carmichael , DJ Rock, Ella Langley , George Birge , HunterGirl , Josh Ross , King Calaway , Larry Fleet , Lily Rose , Meghan Patrick , Tenille Arts and Zach Top.

The Mind of a Country Boy Tour will begin with four dates in April in Canada and then resume later in June, as the tour runs while Bryan is in the middle of judging season 22 of American Idol .

Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE's free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from juicy celebrity news to compelling human interest stories.

The string of live dates will pick back up in June, playing shows throughout the summer along the east coast, midwest and west coast until officially wrapping up on Sept. 14 in Tampa, Florida.

As the “Country Girl” singer announced his tour on Friday, he shared a fun Reel on Instagram in which he and his wife Caroline discussed what he should name his tour while he was fishing (to no success).

“How about Goin’ Fishin’?” the musician asks his wife of 18 years .

“Ah, the mind of a country boy,” she replies, much to his excitement. As the “Buy Dirt” artist realizes that that’s the perfect name, he sweetly hugs Caroline until they fall to the ground.

According to a press release, the name of the tour derives from an upcoming new track from the singer-songwriter that’s set to appear.

Bryan’s forthcoming tour comes off the heels of both his 2023 Country On tour and his Las Vegas residency at The Theatre at Resorts World, which saw him play a total of 48 shows over the course of two years. The acclaimed concert wrapped up in January .

The "But I Got a Beer in My Hand" singer opened up about his commitment to bringing his music to fans , and how much he enjoys performing, in an August 2023 interview with PEOPLE. He said in this midst of his Country On tour, "When I had 100 people in the room, I had a blast, and tonight it’ll be the same thing."

He added, “The day you quit loving it, it’s time to move on. Thankfully I’ve never had those feelings. It’s pretty hard for being in front of 20,000 people to get old.”

Tickets for the Mind of a Country Boy Tour kick off with a presale for members of Bryan’s official fan club, running from Tuesday at 8 a.m. local time to Thursday at 5 p.m. local time. The fan club presale will coincide with a presale for Citi cardmembers , which launches on Wednesday at 10 a.m. local time and closes on Thursday at 10 p.m. local time.

Onstage in Chicago, Zach Bryan Howled, and the Crowd Found Its Voice

The singer and songwriter has become one of pop’s least expected new stars. On opening night of his arena tour, he showcased the bond with his fans that brought him there.

A man in a blue shirt with the sleeves rolled up plays an acoustic guitar and steps away from a microphone onstage to let out a yell.

By Jon Caramanica

Reporting from Chicago

The first two songs Zach Bryan played at the United Center on Tuesday night were from the more muscular end of his catalog. They landed hard and quick — Bryan was singing with a rugged howl, guitars were churning, the fiddle poked through the top like a squeal. This was opening night of The Quittin Time Tour, and the first of three sold-out shows here, and he was wasting no time pumping the audience into a frenzy.

Then he needed them to breathe — maybe he needed to breathe — and so next came “God Speed,” one of the most delicate and precise entries in Bryan’s catalog. It’s a song about surrender and, most importantly, hope, that rests entirely on his strummed acoustic guitar and determined, dusty voice. Bryan pulled his vocals back to let the words sink in, but somehow the crowd got louder and more committed, turning the song into a hymn. In a room of over 20,000 people, everyone was singing, yet somehow it was eerily quiet — the loudest hush imaginable.

Bryan, 27, is a singer whose hollers feel like hugs and whose laments land with a roar. For the past few years, his country-rock-adjacent rumbles have been inspiring a level of fevered devotion that has made him one of music’s most popular and least expected new stars. “Zach Bryan,” his second major-label album, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard album chart last year, and its lead single, “I Remember Everything,” a duet with Kacey Musgraves, reached the top of the Hot 100. Half a year later, the song remains in the Top 10.

A Bryan live show is rooted in his sandpapered voice, his modest affect and his band’s surprisingly jubilant musical arrangements. But just as crucial is the crowd shout-along. It is something slightly different than a regular singalong; the harmony it suggests veers past musical to the emotional.

A couple of years ago, Bryan’s audience was packed with young men who sang his scraped-up songs unselfconsciously back to him. It all had the eau de Springsteen — deploying the magic of seeing a tough, resilient man confess to something much more wounded and ambiguous. But while that’s still part of the appeal, his crowd has expanded. There are more women now, and loads of teenagers, too, an indication of Bryan’s reach even if he has yet to become a traditional radio presence, and even if his allegiance to country music — which he toys with, and which the crowd’s outfits suggested an affinity for — is fickle.

This show, like his albums, was uproarious but not unfocused: a two-hour tour of songs about stubbornness and mistake-making, flecked with flashes of tenderness that gleam so brightly because everything around them is scuffed beyond repair.

The brawnier songs were effective, including “Open the Gate,” “Heading South” and “Nine Ball,” during which the track’s video, starring Matthew McConaughey, played on screens near the ceiling. Bryan’s band knows how to extract antic energy from just a handful of small parts, particularly Read Connolly on lap steel and banjo, J.R. Carroll on keyboard and Lucas Ruge-Jones on fiddle and sometimes trumpet.

But Bryan is at heart a sentimentalist. He writes about the present with the patina of retelling the past, a gesture that underscores how little distance there is between something happening right now and the memory you’re left holding onto. His most effective gambit is bringing thousands of people into the dimly lit corners of his songs.

“’68 Fastback” was heart-rending: “To you I’m just salvage/I ain’t ran right in years/So drive me then gut me.” And Bryan was particularly vivid when invoking the unsteady concept of home, whether on the bracing “Oklahoma Smokeshow,” or “Tishomingo,” which opened with the disarming sigh, “I don’t think that the city moves slow enough for me.”

“Highway Boys,” which on the surface is a toast to the compatriots that make life on the road manageable, actually turned on a more gentle commandment: “If you need me, call/If you’re in love, fall.” And it’s hard to imagine a contemporary American songbook without “God Speed,” from his self-released 2019 album “DeAnn,” which marked Bryan as a singer and writer of uncommon vigor.

Even Bryan’s biggest hits were effectively small ruminations: an aching “Something in the Orange,” and “I Remember Everything,” on which Bryan was joined by Musgraves, a pair of interior singers reckoning with the certainty of a song loved by millions.

When Musgraves left the stage, Bryan quipped, “You kidding me?” This, too, is part of Bryan’s arsenal — the modesty. Throughout the show, he was constantly acknowledging his luck, and the purported (and untrue) rustiness of him and the band: “I’m so sorry if you were having a good evening and we ruined it.”

He played on a huge cross-shaped stage at the center of the arena floor — a pumped-up version of playing in the round — and spent much of his time dutifully marching from promontory to promontory to make sure each side of the room got its face time. And he played to the local crowd with a T-shirt celebrating the Chicago Bulls’ 1995-96 season in which they went 72-10, then the best regular-season record of all time.

After a show full of grand-scale renderings of small-bore apprehensions, he closed with “Quittin’ Time,” with a rambunctious banjo and the fist-pumping exhortation, “I can’t wait to head on home, so I can take my gal to dance.” And then, after a slightly awkward break, Bryan and the band returned to the stage for a 10-minute single-song encore of “Revival,” an enthusiastic celebration of misbehavior. It was boisterous and free, chatty and ecstatic; T-shirt cannons fired tight packages into the crowd.

It was sort of a repayment and a release for a night of close attention and assistance. When Bryan yelped, the crowd yelped. When he whispered, they whispered, too. Sometimes, it was unclear where the line between observation and participation really was. Near the end of “Something in the Orange,” Bryan said, “I trust you guys,” and walked away from the microphone.

Luke Bryan shares new details of 22-year-old who went missing after leaving his Nashville bar

Luke Bryan took to social media Friday to offer a statement regarding the case of Riley Strain, a 22-year-old college student who went missing after leaving the country music star’s Nashville bar last week.

Initial reports were that Strain, who was at Bryan’s 32 Bridge bar, was asked to leave after being overserved. The statement Bryan shared from his bar on X, formerly Twitter, seems to contradict that.

“In our effort to help the Nashville Metro Police Department’s Missing Persons investigation of Riley Strain, we proactively provided detailed information quickly after his visit to our business on March 8,” the statement read. “The information included all security camera footage, photos of Riley at our establishment with detailed time stamps, transaction records, and staff accounts. Additionally, we proactively engaged in communication with the Tennessee Alcoholic Beverage Commission and will continue to communicate and provide any records needed to aid their ongoing investigation.”

The statement then addressed details of Strain’s stay at the bar.

“During Riley’s visit to Luke’s 32 Bridge, our records show he purchased and was served one alcoholic drink and two waters,” it read. “At 9:35 p.m., our security team made a decision based on our conduct standards to escort him from the venue through our Broadway exit at the front of our building. He was followed down the stairs with one member of his party. The individual with Riley did not exit and returned upstairs.

“Our prayers continue to be with Riley’s friends and family during this difficult time and for his safe return.”

The University of Missouri student traveled to Nashville with his fraternity brothers for a convention, according to reports. Strain’s friends reportedly told police that he told them he would walk back to their hotel, which was five blocks away. However, FOX reported that phone pings appear to show that Strain walked in the opposite direction of the hotel when he left the bar.

He has not been seen since.

Blake Shelton concert had it all (and Gwen Stefani!) when 2024 tour hit metro Phoenix

luke bryan tour chicago 2024

A Blake Shelton concert is always a good time, and the country star’s concert in metro Phoenix on Saturday, March 23, was no exception.

The Back to the Honky Tonk Tour at Desert Diamond Arena in Glendale, Arizona, may not have fooled you into thinking the venue was an actual honky tonk, but Shelton did his best to make it feel like one, from all that neon signage in the videos behind him to his playful rapport and the boozy good-old-boy-next-door charisma that makes his such an entertaining presence, both on stage and in his starring role on NBC’s “The Voice” as the leader of Team Blake for 23 seasons.

Blake Shelton setlist 2024: Everything he - and Gwen Stefani! - sang in Phoenix

When Gwen Stefani crashed the stage at the Blake Shelton concert

Of course, it didn’t hurt that he was joined on two duets by Gwen Stefani , who strolled onstage after her husband sang another of their hit duets without her, introducing “Happy Anywhere” with, “While you’re in the singing mood, it’s just me and y'all tonight. I've got a couple duets I can do if you guys will sing along with me. It's just me here. I hope you're not disappointed, but y’all got to be my Gwen Stefani for me tonight.”

After that song, Stefani hit the stage for “Nobody But You,” another of their hit duets.

Shelton took great joy in having tricked the crowd into thinking Glendale wasn’t getting a Stefani walk-on.

“Oh my God! I’ve been so excited about that all day,” he said with a grin. “ This is Gwen Stefani, by the way , everybody.”

They sounded great together, and Stefani, who looked amazing his shiny knee-high boots and a white fur coats over a shimmering mini-dress, stuck around for one more song, their latest single, “Purple Irises.”

'We're here for two reasons, to drink and celebrate country music'

Stefani’s guest appearance may have been the highlight of a night that felt like everything a reasonable person could’ve hoped for in a Shelton concert circa 2024, from the self-effacing humor he brings to interacting with the audience to a setlist packed with singalongs, dusting off early hit singles as timeless as “Austin” and “Ol’ Red” after getting the party started with the far more recent “Come Back as a Country Boy.”

It was after that opening song that Shelton told the crowd, “We’re here for two reasons tonight, to drink and celebrate country music. And let me tell you what we’re not here to do tonight, by the way. We are not here to vomit, no peeing in the aisles, no bull (expletive), no offended crybabies are allowed in here, and absolutely no talking about politics in here.”

Why Blake Shelton likes to think of Phoenix and Arizona as 'my favorite'

There was plenty of talk about his love of Arizona – “my favorite!” as he called it.

“This is my place, man,” Shelton said. “I’ve said it all along, man. Arizona is like my second home. I love it here, coming out here, doing concerts, seeing how you all get dressed up to come out to the country concert. Got your new cowboy hat on.”

Then, he noticed a guy whose hat was maybe not so new.

“You haven’t worn that one for a while, have you, man?” he asked. “That’s been on the scarecrow for a while, hasn’t it? It looks good on you, but it’s weathered. It’s weathered. Now look at hers, though. See her cowboy hat? Shaped perfectly. She’s perfect. And then you wore the scarecrow hat out here, man.”

It was all in good fun, and Shelton eventually dedicated his next song to scarecrow hat man.

“I want to play a song for this guy right here, man,” he said. “I like this guy right here.”

He returned to the Arizona theme a few songs later.

“Let’s just get this out of the way, man,” Shelton said. “Y’all may know that I’m a big Arizona Cardinals fan.”

That’s where his relationship with Arizona began, he said.

“Because I grew up in Oklahoma and we didn’t have an NFL team out there, so the Cardinals became my team. Since I’ve been coming out here, what I really have fallen in love with…,” Shelton said.

“And I’m not just saying this like other douchebag country singers who come out here and they’ll sing for y’all and they go, ‘Man, I love y’all.’ And you know they’re lying. They don’t care about y’all.”

Goofing on Luke Bryan and other country singers

That led into a funny bit about country stars making the audience sing.

“Luke Bryan does that (expletive),” he said, as the audience laughed. “Because he’s so high, he can’t remember the words to his own songs. He has to do those poses, too. With his hat on backwards. You don’t pay money to come hear yourself sing.”

There’s always been a heavy dose of standup comedy in Shelton’s concerts, which is fine because he’s genuinely funny.

Blake Shelton's set included 19 songs that topped the country charts

And it’s doubtful anyone felt shortchanged by the 26 songs Shelton packed into his nearly two-hour performance between the punchlines.

That included such chart-topping highlights as “Austin,” “Some Beach,” “Home,” “Hillbilly Bone,” “Honey Bee,” “Sure Be Cool If You Did,” “Boys ‘Round Here,” “Mine Would Be You,” “Doin’ What She Likes,” “Neon Light,” “Sangria,” “Gonna,” “A Guy With A Girl,” “Every Time I Hear That Song,” “I’ll Name the Dogs,” “Nobody But You,” “Happy Anywhere,” a set-closing “God’s Country” and an encore performance of “God Gave Me You.”

Squeezing 19 songs that topped the country charts into a 26-song set is one surefire path to a crowd-pleasing concert.

But it wouldn’t have been nearly as effective if Shelton didn’t give those songs exactly what they needed as a singer, from moments as heartfelt as “Austin” and “Mine Would Be You” to his playful delivery of “Boys ‘Round Here,” “I’ll Name the Dogs” and “Some Beach.”

And the members of his touring band are versatile enough to underscore those vocals with the perfect part, including some show-stopping leads by guitarist Beau Tackett.

Dustin Lynch proved a perfect opener for a Blake Shelton tour

The night began with a crowd-pleasing set by Emily Ann Roberts, a former member of Team Blake on NBC’s “The Voice.”

Then Dustin Lynch hit the stage in his cowboy hat to greet the crowd with an upbeat performance of “Stars Like Confetti.”

“It’s our job to get you warmed up for the boss man, Mr. Blake Shelton,” he said.

And that’s exactly what he and his backing band did in the course of a hit-filled set that included a handful of his own chart-topping country singles, from “Where It’s At” and “Ridin’ Roads” to “Good Girl,” “Thinking ‘Bout You” and the set-closing “Small Town Boy.”

He had the audience shouting “Tequila” after slipping a bit of the Champs’ classic surf instrumental “Tequila” into his own “Tequila On a Boat” and threw it back to the ‘90s with Joe Diffie’s "Prop Me Up Beside the Jukebox (If I Die)."

The only downside of his set was a rewrite of the Dobie Gray hit “Drift Away” as “Chevrolet.” He and Jelly Roll rewrote it with a chorus that felt it was written for a truck commercial and trust me, they have both done better work.

“She said, ‘Gimme a dirt road, the windows down / Wanna get lost on the edge of town / In your Chevrolet.’ She said, ‘Gimme a six pack, some Brooks and Dunn / If you want a country girl, you just found one / Let's step away, yeah / In your Chevrolet.’”

Nah, man. That ain’t it.

He also earned big laughs for bringing out one of those hats with beer cans on the sides and presenting it to a fan down front named Greg, who was happy to oblige and drink beer from that hat as the audience chanted “Chug!”

“I’ve never seen someone so excited to drink beer,” Lynch said. “This man was made to drink beer.”

It was a fun set and a fitting way to warm the crowd up for “the boss man.”

TikTok video of fan at Zach Bryan concert in Canada goes viral, amassing over 10 million views

During a Zach Bryan concert earlier this week, one fan enjoyed the experience of a lifetime when the country music star invited him on stage to sing.

The concert at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, in Canada on Monday drew tens of thousands of country music fans.

"Before the concert, I was hoping to get on stage with him," Lucas Mason, 17, a local of St. Catharines, Ontario, told Fox News Digital. "I made a sign that said, "Darien Lake 2022, Lake Gardens 2023, can I play Heading South with you at Scotiabank 2024?"

Mason’s sign was hinting to Bryan that he had previously attended the "I Remember Everything" singer’s concerts and was vying for a chance to be invited on stage this time around. However, Mason’s sign was taken from him by security when he entered the venue. He believed the likelihood of a stage presence in front of thousands was now slim to none.

COUNTRY MUSIC STAR ZACH BRYAN ISSUES WRNING TO FANS AFTER KICKING WOMAN OUT OF HIS CONCERT

Despite his setback, Mason got creative once again and purchased a Bryan t-shirt at the venue. He removed his own white shirt and wrote a new message to Bryan which read, "Can I play Heading South??"

"I ruined the shirt, but it was really worth it," Mason said. "I was really trying to manifest it and tell myself that it was going to happen."

In the pit, Mason developed quick relationships with other concertgoers nearby in hopes that Bryan would notice a commotion.

"When I was in the pit, I was talking to everybody there," he said. "Everyone was really kind, and I’m like ‘Hey, guys, I’m really trying to get on stage. Can you help me out and point your flashlights at me?’"

And so the pit crowd did.

A video posted to the TikTok account @greatamericanbarscene showed the moment Bryan invited Mason on stage. It went viral and has garnered over 10 million views.

"Right before he sang the first verse, he noticed everyone yelling and pointing," Mason said. Bryan questioned whether Mason truly knew the lyrics to the original hit that is credited with kick-starting Bryan’s own country music success.

"I said, ‘I swear to God, I swear to God,’" Mason said.

After Mason hopped off the stage, he said everything felt like a blur.

"Walking out was insane," he said. "I was walking out of Scotiabank with a huge guitar, so everyone recognized me."

And the train ride home was no different. "Everyone was chanting, ‘Play your guitar,’" Mason said. "So, I played ‘Something in the Orange,’ ‘cause he didn’t play that, and I also played ’Revival' again."

Mason began guitar lessons around five years ago and only recently took up vocal lessons with a coach. He plays small gigs of around 50 audience members, which he feels is an exciting number of people. He hopes to release a single or an EP of his own original music sometime in the next few weeks.

"I haven’t spoken to him since," Mason said of Bryan. "I wish."

CMA Fest 2024 to Bring Jelly Roll, Lainey Wilson, Luke Bryan, Keith Urban and Hundreds of Other Artists to Nashville

CMA Fest has announced its lineup for the festival's 2024 edition, taking place in Nashville June 6-9, and as usual, the roster for the nightly stadium shows is a who's who of recent country charttoppers and awards contenders, with Jelly Roll and Lainey Wilson foremost among the newer crop of headliners.

The names gracing the Nissan Stadium main stage lineup aren't entirely that fresh. Luke Bryan, Keith Urban and Thomas Rhett are in the mix to represent faces of the genre that have longer than a decade of stardom under their belts. But the stadium shows also feature a number of acts who've only started amassing No. 1s in the course of the last few years, like Cody Johnson, Bailey Zimmerman, Parker McCollum, Jordan Davis, Hardy and Megan Moroney.

The stadium-show roster for 2024 is rounded out by such familiar faces as Kelsea Ballerini, Brothers Osborne, Ashley McBryde, Carly Pearce, Jon Pardi, Lynyrd Skynyrd and the War and Treaty.

The full lineup for five CMA Fest stages was announced Thursday, with three more (the Ascend Nighttime Stage, the CMA Close-Up Stage and the CMA Spotlight Stage) to have their rosters announced at a later date.

The Riverfront Stage is the biggest daytime attraction, before the action shifts solely to Nissan Stadium in the evenings. Moroney and the War and Treaty will be doing repeat performances on that stage, presumably with longer sets than the ones they'll be doing across the river at Nissan at later hours. Among the dozens of other acts booked for the Riverfront are Ingrid Andress, Priscilla Block, Gavin DeGraw, Jackson Dean, Warren Zeiders, Breland, Anne Wilson, Colbie Caillat, Eli Young Band, Niko Moon, Brian Kelley and Lauren Alaina.

The Dr. Pepper Amp Stage will spotlight artists including Mickey Guyton, Lorrie Morgan, Brittney Spencer, Charlie Worsham, Abby Anderson, Ty Herndon and Tenille Arts.

The Chevrolet Vibes Stage attractions include Kassi Ashton, Blanco Brown, Lanco, Chrissy Metz, Raelyn, Tigerlily Gold, Darry Worley, T. Graham Brown, Jamie O'Neal and Mark Wills.

The Hard Rock Stage and the Good Molecules Reverb Stage have an emphasis on artists that are newer and/or on the fringes of making a chart impact, with highlights including Reyna Roberts, Fancy Hagood, Annie Bosko, Kelsey Waldon and Walker County.

A variety of tickets and passes are on sale now at CMAFest.com, including a four-night stadium pass - which also includes access to the Riverfront Stage and most other attractions - and single-night tickets. Tickets for the Stage at Ascend, the lineup of which has yet to be announced, are sold separately. Fan Fair X tickets provide access to almost everything except the nightly stadium shows, for those few who might prefer to retire to their hotel rooms early. A Riverside Retreat ticket provides access to a more comfortable VIP area at that daytime stage.

The four-night stadium passes, which generally sell out more quickly every year, start at $238, including fees.
