While breaking out of your routine is half the fun of going on vacation, there are some routines you shouldn’t neglect. Your teeth travel with you forever, so you should make sure you’re keeping them clean, no matter how badly jet lag may be catching up to you.

One of the easiest ways to keep up your dental hygiene while on the road is with a good electric toothbrush. Ideally, you want one with a pressure sensor and timer to make sure you’re brushing correctly, as well as travel-friendly features like a travel case and long battery life. “You also can’t go wrong with choosing an electric toothbrush that actually encourages use,” says Dr. Guneet Alag. “By picking one that is comfortable to use, easy to travel with, and in your favorite color or has some creative detail, you can minimize lapses in your dental hygiene routines and become more motivated in taking care of your oral health.”

To find the best electric toothbrushes for travel, we tested more than 40 products, and will continue to test them for a total of six months. We ran brand-specific tests across Oral-B and Sonicare’s product lines as well as a broad general test, looking at ease of use, functionality, overall quality, value, and portability to create this list of the very best.

Best Overall

Oral-b genius 9600 electric toothbrush.

  • Ease of Use 4 /5
  • Design 5 /5
  • Functionality 5 /5
  • Quality 5 /5

Six brushing modes, three heads, and a travel case that can also charge your phone put this toothbrush ahead of the pack.

It’s a little on the heavy side, and you can’t put it in a checked bag.

It took us a few seconds to figure out how to use this toothbrush, but once we did, we were fully sold. There are six brushing modes to choose from, and it’s easy to cycle through with the simple arrow button that will light up an indicator of which mode you’re in. There’s both a pressure sensor and a light brushing mode for those who are concerned about brushing too hard. Our teeth felt super clean after the two-minute brush thanks to the round brush head and tongue brush setting, which made it easy to gently clean the tongue. There’s even Bluetooth connectivity, though you’ll be able to get nearly all of the benefits of the toothbrush even if you don’t turn it on.

It also comes with plenty of accessories, including a travel case, suction cup holder, and three different brush heads. The hard-sided USB charging travel case makes it easy to pack in your bag, but be sure to carry it on — the lithium ion battery can’t go in a checked bag. But you’ll most likely want to keep it handy, since it can charge both your toothbrush and cell phone simultaneously. (Though with 14 days of battery life, you may not even need to bring the charger, depending on the length of your trip). It’s also a little heavier than some other toothbrushes, but not so much so as to be bothersome, and the charger can handle multiple voltages – a definite plus when traveling internationally.

The Details: Travel case, charger, 3 brush heads | 14-day charge | Oscillating | 2-minute timer with intervals, pressure sensor, Bluetooth app connectivity, 6 brushing modes | 4.02 x 9.25 x 9.96 inches

Best Overall, Runner-Up

Oral-b genius x limited.

  • Ease of Use 5 /5
  • Design 4.8 /5
  • Value 4.8 /5

You hardly have to work at all with this intuitive and multi-featured brush.

The base is prone to tipping.

If you want to feel like you’ve gotten your teeth professionally cleaned every time you brush, the Genius X is the best electric toothbrush for you. We found it extremely intuitive right out of the box, though we did have to check the instructions for the modes. It vibrates every 30 seconds so you know when to switch quadrants, and the handle is easy to hold, even with wet or toothpaste-covered hands. You can also quickly swap modes mid-brush if you want to adjust, and the small, round head can reach every corner of your mouth. There are six modes to choose from — daily clean, intense, sensitive, whiten, gum care, and tongue clean — as well as a battery icon on the brush itself and a pressure sensor that will flash red if you’re going too hard. For the extra-thorough, it even has a Bluetooth-enabled app that lets you see how good your brushing coverage is. You can also use the app to change the brushing mode, change the light-up ring color, see your brushing history, and get tips on how to brush more effectively, as it will follow along as you brush if you have it open while you go.

Our teeth felt great after every session, and all we had to do was gently glide the brush over our teeth. Our only minor quibble was that the base tips over easily, which may be irritating if you’re only working with a small amount of counter space, and it’s on the expensive side.

The Details: Travel case, charging base, 1 brush head | 14-day charge | Oscillating | Timer with intervals, pressure sensor, Bluetooth app, 6 brushing modes | 3.94 x 7.01 x 9.96 inches

Best with Travel Case

Philips sonicare healthywhite+ electric toothbrush.

 Amazon

This model lets you change settings mid-brush and it’s straightforward and easy to use.

It doesn’t include a pressure sensor and is on the pricey side for its simple build.

The Sonicare HealthyWhite+ felt just right in our hands, with a comfortable handle and weight. One of its best features is that you can use the up and down arrows to change the intensity of your brushing even while you’re mid-brush, rather than having to interrupt your routine. There are two different modes, Clean and White, along with three different intensity settings. It’s also easy to use, and the fun green accents are a nice bonus (you can choose between green or silver accents). It doesn’t tell you how hard you’re brushing, but will vibrate every 30 seconds so you know it’s time to move to a different area of your mouth. Our teeth felt squeaky clean at the end of the two-minute cycle. It also comes with a hard travel case for easy packing.

The Details: Travel case, charger, 1 brush head | 3-week charge | Sonic | Pacer, 2-minute timer | 3.7 x 6.7 x 9.2 inches

AquaSonic Electric Toothbrush

  • Functionality 3 /5

This brush is easy to pack and go, and comes with an impressive eight replacement heads.

It doesn’t have a timer or pressure sensors.

This sleek toothbrush held its own against others that are triple the price. It comes with a charger, base, and eight brush heads, so you won’t need to restock for quite a while. You have to charge it before you use it, but once it’s up, it’s easy to use, and the brush heads are just the right size. There are four brushing modes — clean, whiten, massage, and soft — with an ultrasonic brushing vibration of 40,000 VPM. Our teeth were clean after the two-minute cycle, even after eating dried mango and gummy candies, and the full wireless charging and included travel case make it easy to transport.

The Details: Travel case, 8 brush heads, charging base | 4-week charge | Ultrasonic | 9.65 x 6.69 x 2.2 inches

Best Splurge

Philips sonicare prestige 9900 toothbrush.

This is the Cadillac of electric toothbrushes — it includes multiple charging options, modes, and an app to fine-tune your process.

It only comes with one brush head, and replacements are pricey.

If you want to fully commit to a top-of-the-line brushing experience, go for the Sonicare Prestige 9900. Setup is easy, and you get both a base and a USB charging case, which you can plug directly into the toothbrush if you don’t have access to an outlet (another great travel feature). Once it’s brushing time, there are three intensity levels that can easily be switched during brushing, and the brush automatically adapts in real time to your brushing style. There’s also a timer with a default setting of two minutes split into six intervals, but you can use the app to adjust the duration. While the app isn’t necessary, if you choose to use it, you can learn more about your brushing habits and play with more of the settings. The low intensity level felt soft enough for our sensitive teeth, and the brush itself also feels nice in hand, with a good weight, comfortable feel, and attractive smooth surface. We had a “fresh from the dentist” smooth feeling afterward and no discomfort, despite the sensitivity issues.

The Details: 1 brush head, charging stand, travel case | 14-day charge | Sonic | 2-minute timer with intervals, Bluetooth app, 3 intensity levels, pressure sensor, scrubbing sensor, adaptive intensity | 9.53 x 2.91 x 6.61 inches

Oral-B iO Series 9

  • Ease of Use 4.5 /5
  • Design 4.2 /5
  • Value 4.2 /5

This brush provides plenty of guidelines and features to really dial in your brushing routine.

The bristles may be a little long for some people, and we had to read the instructions to get set up correctly, but once we did, it was smooth sailing.

If you’re into gadgets, get techy with the Oral-B iO Series 9. Start off by downloading the app and connecting via Bluetooth, and you’ll be able to choose your setting and track your brushing. We had to read the directions to get set up correctly and had some trial and error during setting selection, but after that it was simple as can be. The handle was comfortable and easy to manipulate, though the bristles on the brush head were a little long, triggering some overbrushing notifications when we maneuvered to the next area of the mouth. There’s both a built-in timer on the brush and one in the app, and you can also move between settings on the handle or app, so you can track and adjust in real time. Our teeth felt glassy smooth afterward, like we’d just been to the dentist, and each individual tooth felt equally clean. The fact that the travel case can also be used as a charger is also an excellent travel bonus.

The Details: Charging stand, charging case, 1 brush head | Oscillating with micro-vibrations | 2-minute timer with intervals, 7 settings, pressure sensors, Bluetooth app with AI | 7.01 x 3.94 x 9.96 inches

Best for Sensitive Teeth

Oral-b io series 5.

  • Functionality 4.8 /5

You’ll never over- or under-brush your teeth again with the three pressure alerts and other great features this toothbrush offers.

You’ll need to read the directions to learn what the various alerts mean, and if you have the app open, it will override the brush’s handle interval timer.

Trying out the Series 5 made us feel like our previous manual toothbrush was a relic of the caveman era. We were amazed by its smart features and app abilities, though we did have to read the instructions during setup to make sure we knew how to select our chosen mode and what the different colored lights meant. Once you know them, though, they’re straightforward and simple, with different lights for brushing too hard, too soft, or just right. The brush head is a good size to reach everywhere you need to, and the app tracks your brushing as you go so you can make sure you’re reaching every corner. Note that the brush won’t give you interval alerts if you have the app open, so you’ll need to keep an eye on the in-app timer instead.

The Details: Charger, travel case, 1 brush head | Oscillating | 2-minute timer with intervals, pressure sensor, Bluetooth app, 5 brushing modes | ‎ 10.16 x 7.01 x 4.09 inches

Best for Sensitive Gums

Philips sonicare protectiveclean electric toothbrush.

  • Functionality 4.3 /5

This solid, straightforward toothbrush gives you three modes and three levels of intensity to find your best brush.

It shuts off automatically at two minutes, so you have to manage your timing accordingly (though you can always just turn it back on).

Gums are just as important as teeth for your overall mouth hygiene, so if yours need a little extra care, go for the ProtectiveClean 6100. There are three modes and three intensity settings to choose from; all of which are easy to set up and switch between as you go. During our tests, we could change the intensity without issue while brushing, but had to pause and take the brush out to change settings.

The handle and brush head are easily maneuverable, and it will turn off automatically after two minutes, which is great if you lose track of time. The battery has lasted us more than a month after just one overnight charge, which is great for travelers who don’t want to be bothered with packing the charging base, and it kept our teeth feeling fresh every time.

The Details: 1 brush head, travel case, charger | 2-week charge | 3 modes, 3 intensity settings, pressure sensor, 2-minute timer | 2.56 x 6.81 x 9.33 inches

Best Features

Oral-b io series 8.

  • Ease of Use 3.5 /5
  • Design 3.8 /5
  • Functionality 4.5 /5

It offers all the bells and whistles in an attractive and easy to use package.

You’ll have to create an account to get the full app benefits, and the darker handle color shows toothpaste stains more easily.

If you’re looking for a toothbrush with all the bells and whistles, this is the one for you. We had to read through the instructions and download the app to get started (though the app is optional), but found the directions easy to follow. We love the look of this toothbrush and the handle feels just right, perfect both for travel and to have out on your bathroom counter.

We were able to maneuver it easily, though because it spins very quickly, it can create a bit of a mess if you aren’t used to it. You can change settings as you brush, though we found it easier to take the toothbrush out, switch settings, and then resume brushing. The dark purple handle of our test model also showed toothbrush stains easily, but was no problem to clean. The pressure sensor will light up red if you go too hard or green when your pressure level is just right, and it’s easy to see your battery life and which mode you’re in via color-coded light on the handle display. The app itself is also packed with features, using AI to show you where you’re brushing in real time and when you’ve fully covered that area, then providing a score at the end of your brushing session. While at first we weren’t huge fans of this extra hurdle, we quickly became obsessed with keeping up our brushing score.

The Details: Travel case, magnetic charger, 3 brush heads | Oscillating | 2-minute timer with intervals, pressure sensor, Bluetooth app, 6 brushing modes | 7.01 x 3.94 x 9.96 inches

Best Sonicare

Philips electric toothbrush.

  • Ease of Use 4.7 /5
  • Value 4.5 /5

This easy-to-use brush removes a truly impressive amount of detritus.

We found it to be a little loud while in use.

For those who specifically want Sonicare’s sonic cleaning, the ExpertClean 7300 is the best choice. We noticed much more debris coming out of our teeth with this toothbrush than with a manual. It’s easy to set up, though we had to check the manual on first use to know what the settings and lights meant. The handle is easy to grip and controls are easy to use, though you’ll need to take the toothbrush out of your mouth to adjust unless you’re very familiar with all the options. You can switch between low, medium, and high pressure and then simply let the brush do most of the work. It will tell you when to switch areas of your mouth and whether you’re brushing too hard. We found it a little on the loud side while using it, but no one nearby noticed.

The Details: Charger, travel case, 2 brush heads | 14-day charge | Sonic | 2-minute timer, pressure sensor, 3 pressure levels, Bluetooth app | ‎ 9.45 x 6.81 x 2.56 inches

Other Electric Toothbrushes We Liked

Quip Adult Smart Electric Toothbrush : If you’ve listened to a podcast lately, you’ve probably heard of Quip. This brush is good for portability and has Bluetooth built in, but there are no functions other than a simple timer and the basic brush mode. The bristles are also extremely soft, and we felt like we still had to do some of the work to brush, rather than just letting the toothbrush do its job.

Oral-B Smart Limited Electronic Toothbrush : We found the Smart Limited to be super easy to set up and use thanks to its self-explanatory settings. It has a thick, ergonomic handle and a small brush, which may be an issue for larger mouths, and is simple to switch between settings. You also get a pressure sensor and multiple modes, but it’s a little too app-dependent — rather than a built-in timer, you have to use the timer in the app. We also found the motion detector inaccurate, showing we were in the lower right quadrant when we were in the upper left, for example, and it gave us low and inaccurate brushing scores as a result.

Philips Sonicare 4100 Series : The 4100 Series is on the simpler end of the Sonicare scale. While the handle and brush head were a good size and easy to maneuver, and it left our teeth feeling clean, it only has two pressure settings and no sensor to alert you when you brush too hard. There also isn’t a timer, so you’re really on your own when it comes to figuring out how good of a brushing job you’re doing.

We ran three separate tests to find the best electric toothbrushes for this story: one on Oral-B toothbrushes, one on Sonicare, and one on general electric and regular toothbrushes. Overall, we tested a total of more than 40 toothbrushes, tracking their ease of use both during setup and while brushing, functionality, overall quality of post-brush cleanliness, value, battery life, brush heads, extra features, and portability.

Tests were conducted under the guidance of Dr. Marc Schlenoff, vice president of clinical development at Tend. Testers brushed their teeth with the included brush heads, noting where the controls were and how easy the handles were to grip. If the brush didn’t include a built-in timer, we set one for two minutes to make sure each brush got the full amount of time, brushing at the recommended 45-degree angle to the gums and making sure to clean every part of the mouth. We then noted what the brushing experience was like, including whether our teeth felt clean, if anything was left in our teeth afterward, and how loud the brush was.

Our testers will continue using the toothbrushes and reporting their findings over a total of six months.

Tips for Buying an Electric Toothbrush

Consider its credentials.

It can be hard to determine whether online products are truly as good as they’re supposed to be. Aside from real-life editor testing, these electric toothbrushes also have a third-party source of credibility: the American Dental Association.

“The reality is that the only credential that really matters when choosing the right electrical toothbrush is the ADA Seal of Acceptance,” says Dr. Guneet Alag of Fab Dental. “This marker ensures you’ll get a dental product that’s meticulously verified for safety and efficacy, helping you get the most out of your money. However, you should ensure that you are buying from a reputable store to prevent ending up with a substandard dental product with a falsified ADA seal.” You can also ask your dentist if there’s a model they recommend, as they know what will work for your particular teeth.

Look for a good travel companion

Find a toothbrush you can take on the road with you – which means looking for features like a travel case that will easily fit in your luggage and a long battery life so you don’t have to worry about bringing a charging base along with you. For international travel, if you’re going to be bringing the charger, you’ll also want to make sure the voltage is compatible with the outlets in your destination.

Find features to match your needs

Every mouth is different, so you’ll want to find what works for you specifically. Dr. Alag recommends a timer, pressure sensor, battery power, and multiple brushing modes. A timer will make sure you’re brushing for the recommended two minutes, while multiple brushing modes help you make sure your specific needs (like sensitivity, for example) are being met. A pressure sensor will make sure you’re exerting the right level of force. If you travel for long periods of time, you may want to look into a battery-powered toothbrush, rather than rechargeable, so you have a longer battery life.

According to Dr. Schlenoff, the time you spend cleaning and its efficacy also depend on you, the user, factoring in personal dexterity, how hard you’re brushing, and other human influences.

“While individual dental cleaning techniques and styles contribute the most to the overall effectiveness of brushing, electric toothbrushes do offer certain advantages over manual ones,” says Dr. Alag. “The oscillating or rotating bristle heads of electric toothbrushes can cover more surface area and reach spots that may be difficult to access with a manual toothbrush. Additionally, the consistent and controlled motion of an electric toothbrush can help ensure more even and thorough brushing. However, it's important to note that proper technique and regular brushing, regardless of the type of toothbrush, is still the defining factor for the overall efficacy of an oral hygiene routine.”

While this depends on both the manufacturer and your specific usage, the general recommendation is to replace your brush head roughly every three months. “Over time, the bristles lose their effectiveness in removing plaque and bacteria, so regular replacement is necessary to maintain optimal cleaning,” says Dr. Alag. “However, it's best to replace the head as soon as any signs of wear are observed or if the bristles start to splay before the three-month mark.”

You can bring your electric toothbrush in a carry-on bag without an issue. However, you may not be able to check it. The determining factor here is what kind of battery your toothbrush uses. Most electric toothbrushes use a lithium ion battery, which cannot go in a checked bag and will need to be taken out if you have to gate-check it at the last minute. If your electric toothbrush is in your checked baggage, it needs to be “completely powered off and protected to prevent unintentional activation or damage.” Check the TSA and FAA regulations, as well as the rules of your particular airline, if you’re unsure.

If you’re someone who frequently travels, packing and repacking your toothbrush might become an issue. If not packed properly, your toothbrush can come in contact with all the other things in your bag, leaving it filled with germs and all sorts of other matter that you don’t want to end up in your mouth.

Before we dive into our top choices for travel toothbrushes, let’s take a peek at what you should consider in your search for the perfect toothbrush for traveling.

Hundreds of top-tier travel toothbrushes will make maintaining your oral hygiene on the go easier than ever. Before we explore which options are our favorites, let’s look at what should be the determining factors when choosing the perfect travel toothbrush.

Travel toothbrush

Size and portability should be considered first and foremost when choosing the right toothbrush. For example, if you travel with a full-size travel cosmetic bag, you can choose a full-size toothbrush . On the other hand, some travelers prefer a minimalist style of packing. If that’s the case for you, selecting a compact or smaller size may work best for your packing needs.

Manual or Electric

Manual or electric travel toothbrush

If you already have an electric toothbrush at home, you might feel like a manual toothbrush for traveling feels like a downgrade . This is understandable since electric toothbrushes are proven to control tooth decay better.

Hot Tip: Keep in mind that if you’re planning a long-term travel experience, it might be appropriate to pack something that doesn’t need batteries or charging.

Dual Voltage

Even if you’re planning to stay in 1 country on your journey, it’s still a good idea to find a toothbrush that can adjust to different voltages. This is important, especially if you’re traveling to a place that has a higher voltage than what you’re accustomed to.

Some of the newer toothbrushes come with a dual-voltage option that automatically adjusts according to the power outlet they’re plugged into , which makes traveling much easier. If your toothbrush doesn’t have this feature, make sure you pack a voltage converter as well.

Travel toothbrush design

The ever-popular folding travel toothbrush is a travel enthusiast’s favorite . When assembled, the design takes up half the space of a standard-sized toothbrush without sacrificing the comfort of use when fully expanded.

Many of the best folding toothbrushes come with a carrying case that closes tightly to keep your bristles clean and bacteria-free.

The battery is one of the most important factors to consider when it comes to electric toothbrushes. Ideally, you want a toothbrush that is rechargeable and can last a week or 2 on a single charge . Battery-operated toothbrushes are not as appealing as rechargeable ones, but they are often cheaper.

Antimicrobial Properties

Picking a toothbrush with antimicrobial properties is key, particularly if you pitch your toothbrush into the depths of your toiletry bag when you come and go.

Antimicrobial strands hinder bacterial growth between uses , keeping your mouth as healthy as possible.

Bristle Variety

Travel toothbrush bristles

There are 3 options for toothbrush bristles: soft, medium, and hard. Most people prefer a medium-bristle toothbrush . If you have a tendency to brush your teeth forcefully, you might want to choose a softer bristle to help protect your gums and enamel.

Pay attention to the bristle material when picking a new travel toothbrush. Nylon bristles are the most common, but if you have sensitive gums, doctors suggest opting for a toothbrush with softer bristles like polyester.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do i keep my toothbrush clean while traveling.

Place your toothbrush upright in a cup or holder to ensure it dries thoroughly. Look for travel toothbrushes that also come with a case.

Where do you put your toothbrush when traveling?

The ADA recommends storing your toothbrush out in the open, so it can be exposed to air and daylight, which will help it dry naturally. While on the move, opt for a travel case to keep it clean.

Are 360-degree toothbrushes any good?

In general, 360-degree toothbrushes are well-built, comfortable, and easy to use. Unfortunately, they do not have a good reputation for appropriately cleaning teeth.

Can I carry a toothbrush in my hand luggage?

According to TSA guidelines, you can bring an electric toothbrush on a plane in both your carry-on bags and checked bags. One thing to note is that if your electric toothbrush contains a lithium-ion battery, it’s recommended that you pack it in your carry-on baggage.

Wherever and whenever you go, a toothbrush (and toothpaste!) is a definite must-have in your carry-on luggage or backpack for travel.

Whenever I travel, I always joke around that I can leave everything else – BUT NOT my toothbrush.

Of course, I’m not okay with leaving my other important travel gear , but you get my point. While picking up a toothbrush at your destination is no big deal, packing one is generally high on everyone’s priority list.

Even though they might be tiny, we at Her Packing List believe that every little bit adds up – even your toiletry kit . If you’re after a more travel-friendly toothbrush option that takes up even less space , we’ve got you covered!

From folding to electric to compact ones, we made sure to include everything in the list – including toothbrush covers to keep your toothbrush clean!

Things to Consider When Buying a Travel Toothbrush

Before you get confused with so many options, there are a few things you need to consider before buying a toothbrush for your next travels.

Here they are:

Bristle firmness and texture

Yes, how toothbrush bristles feel against your mouth matters. There are different firmness and textures of toothbrushes from soft to medium to hard. Unfortunately, a lot of the super compact and low-cost travel toothbrushes can feel pretty harsh on your gums, so choose wisely.

If you have sensitive teeth and gums, soft to medium bristles should be your first choice. Just to be sure, check with your dentist.

Type of travel toothbrush

With plenty of options on the market, you need to decide if you’d go for disposable or reusable travel toothbrushes (which come in a lot of different types, like foldable or compact). While we recommend reusable, there are some interesting disposable toothbrushes that might have a place on certain trips.

You also have the choice to bring an electric toothbrush if you prefer it more than manual options.

Take note that both manual and electric toothbrushes have their own pros and cons. For example, a manual or compact toothbrush requires less maintenance. On the other hand, an electric toothbrush will either require a battery or charge to function.

Toothbrush covers for hygiene

While the idea of stuffing your toothbrush in a plastic or a ziploc bag seems great, it’s actually the worst place to keep them. Why? Bacteria buildup (eww!).

Bacteria likes to grow in wet places and when you’re traveling, using your toothbrush and stuffing it in a plastic bag suffocates them with no room to breathe. When you buy a travel toothbrush, make sure you also buy appropriate covers with holes for ventilation to keep your toothbrush free of bacteria.

Travel-Friendly Toothbrush Options

Now that we’ve talked about the basics, here are the different travel-friendly toothbrushes that you may like for your next travels.

Electric Travel Toothbrushes

Philips one rechargeable toothbrush.

The Philips One electric toothbrush affordable, bulkier than manual and compact toothbrushes, but offer a more satisfying brushing experience.

Inclusions: 1x rechargeable toothbrush, 1x brush head, 1x travel case, 1x Type-C USB charger

Why we like it:

  • Quiet operation
  • Slender handle

What’s not to like: Bulkier and less powerful than regular electric toothbrush

Compared to other electric toothbrushes on the market, the Philips One electric toothbrush is quite affordable. It’s bulkier than manual and compact toothbrushes, but if you want a more satisfying brushing experience this is the one you should buy.

Also, the slender handle of this electric toothbrush makes it easier to brush your teeth. Just note that this is less powerful than regular electric toothbrushes since it’s made for travel.

Pop Sonic Electric Toothbrush

The Pop Sonic electric toothbrush is more packable than the Philips One since it's less bulky.

Inclusions: 1x electric toothbrush, 1x replacement brush head, 1x AAA battery, 1x instruction manual

  • Comes with 2-speed options
  • Ergonomic design

What’s not to like: Soft bristles and gentle brushing may not be for everyone

The Pop Sonic electric toothbrush is more packable than the Philips One since it’s less bulky. The nylon bristles of this toothbrush are good for sensitive gums since they’re soft, but also flexible for hard-to-reach areas.

Overall, using this toothbrush will be like giving your teeth a gentle massage. While that’s a good thing for some, you may not like it if you’re used to giving your teeth a good scrub at the end of the day. It’s all about preference! BUT if you like a cute toothbrush with soft bristles, then this will be perfect.

Quip Adult Electric Toothbrush

The Quip adult electric toothbrush is compact, sleek, and powerful with a built-in tongue scraper.

  • Built-in tongue scraper
  • Sleek and compact design
  • Automatic notification at a 2-minute stop

What’s not to like: Limited color options

The Quip adult electric toothbrush is compact, sleek, and powerful! It’s powerful enough to provide your teeth and mouth with a deep clean feel despite having soft bristles. The added bonus was the built-in tongue scraper! The sleek and compact design makes it easy to hold and is super easy to use.

Compact Travel Toothbrushes

Lingito travel toothbrush.

The Lingito travel toothbrush is very convenient for travel with a compact design and a built-in case that converts into a handle.

Inclusions: 3x toothbrush per pack

  • Convertible built-in case
  • Medium bristle firmness
  • Regular-sized toothbrush

The Lingito travel toothbrush is very convenient for travel since it comes with a built-in case that you can convert into a handle when you use it. This compact design makes it easy to bring this toothbrush in your purse or even your pocket.

A pack comes with three toothbrushes making it one of the most affordable options out there. The only thing you need to be careful with is that since the handle becomes a fully enclosed case, you need to make sure that your toothbrush is dry before you pack it up to avoid bacteria buildup.

Heinenand Travel Toothbrush

The Heinenand travel toothbrush is multi-functional as a toothbrush, a floss, a toothpick, and a tongue scraper in one.

Inclusions: 10x or 20x toothbrushes per pack

  • 4-in-1 toothbrush
  • Environmentally friendly as it’s made from wheat straw

What’s not to like: Too small for some and ultra-soft bristles are not for everyone.

Similar to the Colgate Max Fresh Wisp toothbrush, the Heinenand travel toothbrush works as a convenient toothbrush that is multi-functional.

You can buy this for a pack of 10 or 20 and you get a toothbrush, a floss, toothpick, and a tongue scraper in one. It’s a convenient way to keep your teeth and mouth clean overall. What makes this toothbrush even better is that it’s nature-friendly being made from biodegradable materials.

Prony 3in1 Portable Travel Toothbrush

The Prony 3in1 portable toothbrush comes with a toothpaste tube so you don’t have to worry about bringing a full tube of toothpaste.

Inclusions: 1x foldable toothbrush and 1x free cleaning brush

  • 3in1 kit (toothbrush, travel case, and toothpaste tube)
  • replaceable toothbrush head
  • FREE cleaning brush

What’s not to like: No ventilation holes

The Prony 3in1 portable toothbrush is almost perfect for a folding toothbrush – except it lacks any ventilation holes. But missing ventilation hole aside, it’s a good travel toothbrush with a toothpaste tube so you don’t have to worry about bringing a full tube of toothpaste.

Plus, there’s an included cleaning brush for cleaning the toothpaste end. Just make sure to keep it out for as long as you can to let it dry before putting it away.

Folding Travel Toothbrushes

Gum folding toothbrush.

The GUM folding travel toothbrush has a space-saving tri-fold design where the bristles fold into the handle.

Inclusions: Pack of 2 toothbrushes

  • Tri-fold design
  • Antibacterial bristles

As folding toothbrushes go, the GUM folding travel toothbrush is on a whole new level. Aside from its space-saving tri-fold design where the bristles fold into the handle, this toothbrush also uses hygienic-treated bristles to keep it clean.

Plus, there’s a tiny hole to air out any leftover moisture to make sure your toothbrush is free of mold and any possible bacteria buildup from being wet.

Radius Tour Travel Toothbrush

The Radius Tour travel toothbrush is a compact option with a unique hideaway feature and 3x more bristles for better cleaning.

Inclusion: Pack of 3 toothbrushes

  • Slim neck and jack knife design
  • 3x more bristles than the average toothbrush
  • Sustainable and eco-friendly materials

What’s not to like: Too soft bristles may not feel as effective at cleaning your teeth

Radius is a small business owned by women and they definitely know what a woman needs when packing light . The unique hideaway feature of the Radius Tour travel toothbrush makes it very compact. They have 3x more bristles (that are vegetable-derived) for better cleaning and the heads are replaceable, which saves you more compared to just buying a whole new toothbrush.

Lingito Folding Travel Toothbrush

The Lingito travel toothbrush is lightweight and compact with a solid grip handle, folds up nicely, and cleans up well with medium-soft bristles.

  • Firm grip handle
  • No need for a loose cover
  • Budget-friendly option

What’s not to like: Limited color choices

As a folding toothbrush, the Lingito travel toothbrush is pretty straightforward. It comes with a solid grip handle, folds up nicely, and cleans up well with medium-soft bristles. It’s lightweight and compact and you don’t need any additional toothbrush cover since the toothbrush head folds into the handle.

Brooke has this folding toothbrush and likes that it makes packing a toothbrush into her Tom Bihn 3D Organizer Cube – that she uses as a toiletry bag – so much easier!

Travel Toothbrush Kits

Colgate max fresh wisp disposable mini toothbrush.

The Colgate Max Fresh Wisp disposable toothbrush is a toothbrush and a toothpick in one with built-in toothpaste (freshening beads) that dissolve once you use it.

Inclusions: 24x disposable mini toothbrush

  • No rinsing necessary
  • Brush and go
  • Built-in toothpaste bead
  • Can also be used as a toothpick

What’s not to like: Too small for some, and it’s disposable.

If you’re looking for a quick way to clean your teeth on the go, the Colgate Max Fresh Wisp disposable toothbrush should be in your toiletries. It’s a toothbrush and a toothpick in one with built-in toothpaste (freshening beads) that dissolve once you use it. That’s right… no need to practice those toothpaste packing hacks with this brush option.

This is convenient when you don’t have easy access to water and you need a convenient way to clean your teeth. It can also be nice for those quick overnight trips – you won’t have to pack much, not even toothpaste!

Crest Scope Mini Toothbrush

The Crest Scope mini toothbrushes are a lot similar to the Colgate Max Fresh Wisp disposable toothbrushes, but with thick and stiff bristles.

Inclusions: 12x mini toothbrush

  • Multi-ridge tongue cleaner
  • Interdental pick

What’s not to like: Not the most durable travel toothbrush, and it’s intended for single-use

The Crest Scope mini toothbrushes are a lot similar to the Colgate Max Fresh Wisp disposable toothbrushes. But where the Colgate Max Fresh wisp has softer bristles, the Crest Scope has thick and stiff bristles. This can make brushing your teeth feel uncomfortable especially if you have sensitive teeth and gums. It’s a good travel toothbrush for a quick clean, perhaps nice for camping, but it is not the most durable option.

Reach Oral Kit

The Reach Oral Kit is a complete dental kit, but doesn’t fold which may not be the most compact option.

Inclusions: 1x toothbrush, 1x Crest 3D White Luxe Whitening Toothpaste, 1x toothbrush cap, 1x mini floss container

  • Complete oral hygiene kit
  • Easy kit to buy and pack without thinking

What’s not to like: Not the most compact option

If you’re a fan of a complete oral kit, this would be a good choice. However, it might not be your best choice if you’re looking for a compact option since the toothbrush doesn’t fold and you need to find more space for it plus the toothpaste that comes with it.

Colgate Travel Kit

The Colgate Travel Kit comes with a soft-bristled toothbrush and a travel-friendly toothpaste tube.

Inclusions: 1x toothbrush, 1x Toothpaste

  • Value pack toothpaste and toothbrush
  • Convertible handle as toothbrush case

What’s not to like: No ventilation holes on toothbrush case

The Colgate Travel Kit comes with a soft-bristled toothbrush and a travel-friendly toothpaste tube. The toothbrush case can be converted as the handle which makes it very compact. The only downside is the lack of a ventilation hole when storing the toothbrush.

Brushee 3in1 Oral Care Tool

The Brushee 3in1 Oral Care kit is a pocket-sized toothbrush for quick and easy oral hygiene when you are on the go.

Inclusions: 24x pre-pasted mini toothbrushes with dental floss and toothpick

  • Value pack multifunction oral kit

What’s not to like: Too small and may not be the most eco-friendly option

The Brushee 3in1 Oral Care kit is a pocket-sized toothbrush for quick and easy oral hygiene when you are on the go. The brush has medium bristles, but the dental pick may be a bit challenging to use since it’s short and very sharp so you need to be careful.

Buying Guide

When looking for a travel electric toothbrush, there are a few features to consider to ensure you choose the best product for your needs. Here are some factors to keep in mind:

Battery Life

One of the most important features to consider is the battery life of the toothbrush. You want to make sure that the toothbrush can last for the duration of your trip without needing to be charged. Look for a toothbrush with a long battery life, ideally one that can last for several weeks on a single charge.

Size and Portability

Another important factor to consider is the size and portability of the toothbrush. You want a toothbrush that is compact and easy to pack in your luggage. Look for a toothbrush that comes with a travel case or is designed to be easily stored in a toiletry bag.

Brush Head Options

Different people have different brushing preferences, so it’s important to consider the brush head options when choosing a travel electric toothbrush. Look for a toothbrush that comes with different brush head options, such as soft or medium bristles, to accommodate different brushing needs.

Additional Features

Some travel electric toothbrushes come with additional features, such as a timer or pressure sensor. These features can be helpful in ensuring that you brush your teeth for the recommended amount of time and with the right amount of pressure. Consider whether these features are important to you when choosing a toothbrush.

Overall, when choosing a travel electric toothbrush, it’s important to consider the battery life, size and portability, brush head options, and any additional features that may be important to you. By keeping these factors in mind, you can choose the best toothbrush for your needs and ensure that you maintain good oral hygiene while on the go.

Laifen Wave electric toothbrush review

At a glance

Expert's Rating

・Powerful cleaning

・30-day battery life

・Adjustable vibration, oscillation range and speed

・Good for travel

・No pressure sensor

・App needed to adjust settings

・Toothbrush heads not high quality

・Slippery when wet

Our Verdict

The Wave has a lot going for it, including a 30-day battery life, but its flaws make it hard to recommend wholeheartedly. Our biggest problem is with the less-than-exemplary brush heads, which can be hard to remove from the brush handle. But we’d also point to the fact that there’s no pressure sensor and you’ll need to use the app to change any brush settings.

Price When Reviewed

Best prices today: laifen wave.

Retailer Price Laifen $69.99 View Deal Price comparison from over 24,000 stores worldwide Product Price Price comparison from Backmarket

When we reviewed the Swift hair dryer from innovative Chinese brand Laifen, we awarded it a relatively rare five stars. Now we’re looking at the Laifen Wave, the company’s first electric toothbrush.

It comes beautifully packaged, in eco-friendly, recycled materials, and Laifen isn’t shy about making claims for its innovative design and brushing technology. But what’s it like to use?

Design & Build

・Comes with three specialist toothbrush heads

・Vibrating and oscillating action

・All settings changes must be made in the app

The Laifen Wave is an electric toothbrush that both sonically vibrates at 66,000 vibrations per minute – more than a Philips Sonicare, and much more than the number of vibrations need to class it as sonically effective – and oscillates as well.

However, switch it on and you’ll see a huge difference in its motion from rival brushes. With a wide, 60 degree range, its oscillation is clearly visible, and you can adjust it to your liking.

The Wave is a compact brush with a chunky, glossy handle. It’s wider and shorter than competing models. The handle is just 12cm long, compared to the Oral-B iO’s 16cm, and it doesn’t taper.

Its dimensions mean it can feel a bit odd in the hand and its finish means it can get slippery when wet. Still, its compact size means it’s a good option for travel.

Emma Rowley / Foundry

In the box, you’ll get the brush handle, a magnetic charging cable and three toothbrush heads with different bristle formations. The charging cable doesn’t come with a plug, so you’ll need your own type C power adapter to be able to charge it.

With a wide, 60 degree range, the Wave’s oscillation is clearly visible, and you can adjust it to your liking

The brush heads are labelled as ‘gum care’ (fine, soft bristles), ‘super-clean’ (with a concave formation) and ‘ultra-whitening’ (a ‘W’ shaped design). Providing all three options is a nice touch but it does mean that if you favour one design, you’ll need to restock after just three months.

The bigger problem is that the brush heads don’t seem to be of the highest quality. First off, their shiny finish starts to show scratches after a period of use, and they don’t fit particularly well onto the brush handle.

Laifen says that there should be a small gap between brush head and handle (according to the user manual, “a gap of <1mm is necessary for operation”, which seems unlikely) but in practice, the heads are difficult to attach. Only one of the three provided was easy to put into place and remove. Another jammed, and when I finally wrenched it off, the central fixing was still attached. That was even more difficult to remove, and I didn’t manage it without tearing the skin on my finger.

This alone makes me slightly nervous about recommending the Wave. I typically don’t like to suggests products that may injure our readers.

Brush head replacements cost $9.99 for a three-pack and $16.99 for a six-pack (we can’t yet see UK prices). Again, these are mixed packs, which isn’t ideal.

However, if you really like the Wave, there’s a workaround. It does seem to be perfectly compatible with Philips Sonicare brush heads. These are well made and have the substantial advantage of not slicing bits from people’s fingers.

The Wave charges in just 2.5 hours, which is very fast for an electric toothbrush and, according to Laifen, its battery will last for an impressive thirty days. This was borne out in our testing.

On the brush handle, there are two sets of indicator lights and a single button. Oddly, Laifen considers this one of the brush’s selling points. According to the blurb on its website, it’s a “pressure-sensitive button”. To my mind, that’s what any old common or garden button does: it responds to pressure. I did repeatedly press it to try to detect some kind of special engineering – but sometimes a button is just a button.

Long pressing the extra special button takes you into and out of flight mode.

The top indicator light lets you know which of four brushing modes you’re in – but there’s a catch. You can only switch between modes and adjust brushing power and oscillation in the app, which means that you won’t be able to abandon the app altogether, even if you’re not keen on connected devices.

At the base of the handle is a battery indicator light which will glow green for 50%-100% battery life, yellow for 20%-50% battery life, red for 10%-20% and will blink red for less than that. It glows blue when the brush is connected to the app, which it does via Bluetooth.

The only key feature that the Wave doesn’t have is a pressure sensor and this is something I missed while testing it. If you tend to press too hard when you brush – and you’ll know if you do, as the bristles on your brush will part in the middle, palm-tree style, after a period of use – this is not the brush for you.

Performance, Features & App

・Vibration speed, oscillation range and speed adjustable

・App lacks advanced features

・Higher brush settings too powerful to use

If you buy the Wave, the app is non-negotiable. You’ll need it to use it to do anything except switch the brush on and off, and turn on flight mode.

The Laifen app is free to download and use, and available for both Android and iOS. Once it’s on your phone, you’ll need to make an account and then pair your brush, which you do by switching it on and holding it nearby.

The Wave definitely leaves teeth feeling clean and smooth

Design-wise, the app is free of frills. Nor are there any secondary features, such as monitoring your brushing performance or sessions or suggesting ways to improve your brushing technique. Instead, it’s really just a way to get around having a mode button on the brush handle, and shunt the associated settings into the app. On the plus side, the handle has a clean, minimalist form but there’s no getting away from the app if you want to adjust anything.

Dominik Tomaszewski / Foundry

When you first switch on the brush, the timer will be set to the dentist-recommended two-minute brushing time, after which the brush will turn itself off. In the app, you can change this, in increments of thirty seconds up to 5 minutes (which seems like overkill, unless you want to flay the skin from your gums every time you brush), and turn on a 30-second vibration alert that’ll let you know when to move on to the next quadrant of your mouth.

You can also choose from one of four brushing settings and within these settings, adjust vibration strength, oscillation range and oscillation speed. This allows you to create four customised brushing modes. We just wish that you could switch between them on the handle, as this would make life much simpler.

It’s always difficult to analyse exactly how well an electric toothbrush performs but the Wave definitely leaves teeth feeling clean and smooth. There are suggested settings and this is where you should start before making adjustments. What I found is that the higher settings – especially the higher vibration strength – are almost unusable as the brush just bounces off your teeth. Even the third setting of ten is powerful in comparison to rivals.

Using the Wave for a month, I felt that it delivered very good brushing performance but as I tend to press too hard when I brush, I missed having the safety net of a pressure sensor and probably wouldn’t use it long-term for that reason.

Price & Availability

The Wave will be available from 5 March in the US, UK and Europe. In the US, you can buy it from Amazon and direct from Laifen , where you can save 10% if you buy in March. There are three options to choose from, with different price points. It costs $69 for the plastic version, $79 for aluminium alloy and $99 for the stainless steel model.

In the UK and Europe, the plastic model is available for €79.99, the aluminium alloy for €89.99 and the stainless steel model for €99.99, direct from Laifen . Again, you can currently save 10% if you buy this month.

Although this isn’t a flawless electric toothbrush, it’s very good value at this price

Should you buy the Laifen Wave?

The Wave has a lot going for it, especially its long, 30-day battery life. I also liked the fact that its settings are so adjustable that you can precisely tailor the brush’s performance to your liking. But the fact that you’ll need to use the app to make these adjustments is an unnecessary complication.

I also have concerns about the quality of the brush heads and the fact that three different types are packaged together, which could get expensive if you want to stick to one type.

But for its price, the Wave is definitely a contender, especially if you’re looking for a brush to take while travelling.
