If you plan to live or travel in an RV year-round, you need to choose one of the best RVs with washer and dryer combos so that you don’t have to stop at a laundromat every other week.

The good news is that many modern RVs, travel trailers, and 5th wheels are ready to handle your laundry needs while you’re on the road.

The more your RV adventures help you get rad (and dirty!), the higher your need will be to do laundry in your rig.

And especially if your RV, travel trailer, or 5th wheel is your primary residence, it’s so nice to have the ability to do laundry while you’re relaxing in the comfort of your traveling home.

There are also multiple types of washers and dryers in RVs. So you’ll need to know which type meets your needs best.

And it’s also important to recognize some of the major advantages and disadvantages of having a washer and dryer inside your camper.

We’ve also organized them according to their best use so that it’s much easier for you to identify the one (or ones!) that appeal to you the most.

So let’s get started!

Advantages And Disadvantages Of RV Washers And Dryers

Advantages And Disadvantages Of RV Washers And Dryers

While we’d highly recommend getting an RV with a washer and dryer if you’re a full-timer, there are actually situations where having a washer and dryer might not make sense.

So the most logical place to start is to outline some of the advantages and disadvantages of RV washers and dryers so that you can decide if it’s right for you.

Pros Of RV Washers And Dryers

Here are a few clear reasons why it’s great to have a washer and dryer combo in your RV:

Ease And Convenience

Not everyone likes to multitask, but I do! So that’s why I’ve chosen ease and convenience as the number one advantage of having a washer and dryer in your RV.

Instead of having to sit at a laundromat and twiddle my thumbs while the machines take care of my laundry, I can start a load in my rig and then start cooking dinner or sit down to read a book.

I also don’t have to worry about forgetting about switching over my laundry from the washer to the dryer because I’ll always be within earshot of the timer on my washer when I’m inside my RV.

And having a washer and dryer inside my rig even gives me the ability to run a small load of towels quickly after dinner if someone made an unexpected mess.

Eliminates Need To Use Shared Laundry Facilities

Sometimes the laundry facilities at RV parks and resorts easily become an afterthought.

With so many other amenities to maintain, I can see why park staff may not making keeping the laundry room neat and tidy their utmost priority.

But, for me, I don’t necessarily prefer to clean out a lint trap with lint from a previous user’s laundry before I can put my clothes in the dryer.

Plus, I’m not really sure what kind of soap people are using or where their clothes were before ours shared a washer or dryer.

So I really like the freedom of avoiding shared laundry facilities by having an RV with a washer and dryer inside.

Cuts Down On Unplanned Stops

Even the best-laid adventure plans can be sidetracked when somebody runs out of clean clothes.

While part of adventuring is getting out of your normal daily cleaning routine, nobody likes to keep putting on dirty clothes day after day.

But if you don’t have a washer and dryer inside your RV, you’ll probably have to make unplanned stops to get your clothes cleaned.

Whether those stops are at a laundromat in the city or an RV park with a laundry facility, having to alter your travel plans just to clean clothes is a nuisance.

Unless you need to also utilize a laundromat for their WiFi network, it’s always easier to stay on the road and have the ability to do laundry in your mobile home.

Reduces Laundry Expenses

Sure, you’ll still need water and electricity to run your RV washer and dryer, but you won’t have to put coins in your machines in order to turn them on.

While some RV resorts offer free laundry facilities, most of them utilize coin-operated machines to squeeze a few more dollars out of your pockets while you’re staying there.

Overall, your laundry expenses will be reduced by choosing an RV with an installed washer and dryer unit inside.

And you also won’t have to go through the headache of finding a place to get change if you’re out of quarters when it’s time to run your next load of laundry.

Cons of RV Washers And Dryers

But here are a few disadvantages of purchasing a travel trailer with a washer and dryer unit:

Higher Energy, Gas, and Water Consumption

Obviously washers and dryers don’t run themselves. The washer and dryer will both need an electrical connection to operate.

The washer will also need to be connected to your RV’s water system and the dryer will most likely require a propane connection.

All this translates to two additional large appliances that are going to consume electricity, propane, and/or water every time they’re turned on.

For this reason, many RVers with rigs that contain washers and dryers only run them when they’re connected to full hookups at an RV park so they can minimize running down their onboard energy stores.

Washer/Dryer Capacity

The mobile nature of RVs, travel trailers, and 5th wheels makes them much smaller than a residential home.

This means that the washer and dryer combos that are designed for RV use also have much less capacity than units designed to be installed in a larger residence.

Depending on how quickly you’re going through your clothes, you may only be able to fit a few days worth of dirty clothes in one of these washer and dryer units.

That could mean running multiple loads back-to-back in order to clean everything.

For this reason, RV washer and dryer units might not be the most efficient solution for larger families living or traveling in an RV.

They Take Up A Lot Of Space

If your rig is already on the smaller side, having a washer and dryer inside is only going to make things feel much more compact.

To be honest, there might be other RV appliances that you would prioritize over having a washer and dryer.

And in some cases, you might even opt for having extra storage space over a laundry appliance.

If you don’t plan on taking extended RV trips where doing laundry is going to be needed, then I can think of more efficient uses of interior space than a washer and dryer.

Accumulation of Mold and Mildew

Depending on where you’re traveling or living in your RV, it can be hard to get your washing machine to fully dry out after each load.

Many owners of RV washers and dryers have subsequently reported that their machines tend to accumulate mold and mildew after only a few short months of use.

Of course, this is going to be much more likely if you live or travel in especially humid environments.

And if that’s the case, you may be forced to purchase and install a large RV dehumidifier in order to make sure that your RV washer and dryer don’t continuously stay wet after you finish each washing cycle.

Types Of RV Washers And Dryers

Types Of RV Washers And Dryers

As you’re looking through different RV, travel trailer, and 5th wheel floor plans, you’ll probably notice that there are several RV washer and dryer designs out there.

So before we highlight our favorite RVs with washer and dryer units, let’s define the different types of RV washers and dryers.

Stackable Washers And Dryers

Stackable washers and dryers are designed in a vertical stack so that the units take up less space width-wise.

RV-specific models are much smaller than the stackable units that you’d find in a residential home, but most have the washing machine on the bottom and the dryer stacked directly above it.

These units are much lighter than your average residential unit, which makes it easier to move around if you have to replace your old unit.

But they are still going to be much heavier than a portable washer and dryer for RV use.

Stackable RV washer and dryer units typically handle 12-pound loads. They allow you to run both the washer and the dryer simultaneously so that you can multitask efficiently.

If you’re looking for an RV washer and dryer with a larger load capacity, a stackable design is also a good choice.

Portable Washers And Dryers

Portable RV washers and dryers are generally lighter and more compact than stackable models.

And, as their name suggests, they will give you the freedom to do run a load of laundry through wherever you can connect them to an electrical outlet, water connection, and drain.

Their smaller size and added portability make them a popular choice for smaller and older RVs that aren’t already equipped with a larger washer and dryer combo.

And because they can be moved around, they give full-time RVers the freedom to set up an outdoor laundry area instead of taking up space inside their RV, travel trailer, or 5th wheel.

That being said, the smaller size of these units also translates to reduced load capacity.

That means you won’t be able to fit much more than a few days of clothes in a single load and you’ll definitely have to get creative if you’re trying to wash sheets, towels, and other bulkier linens.

But another advantage of a portable unit is its ability to do laundry quickly. By running smaller loads, these portable washer-dryers can finish a cleaning cycle in about 20 minutes.

And if you choose a model that runs on manual “human” power instead of electricity, you’ll be able to do laundry without adding to your electric bill.

Washer/Dryer Combos

Washer-dryer combos are a great middle-ground between portable and stackable models. These units feature a single drum that has washing and drying capability.

They aren’t as large and cumbersome as a stackable washer-dryer but they will offer larger load capacities than most portable designs.

One of the cool parts about many modern washer-dryer combos is that they can be set to automatically switch from the washing cycle to the drying cycle when the former is complete.

This adds significant convenience to your RV lifestyle because you don’t have to make sure you’re around to switch your dirty clothes from the washer into the dryer.

As an RVer who loves adventure and actually prefers to spend most of his time outside of his RV, I’d love the ability to set my washer-dryer in the morning, head out for a full day of adventures, and return to clean, dry clothes in the afternoon.

The only downside to these combos is that the amount of time they require to complete a full cycle is much longer than for a portable washer-dryer.

But when you consider that the full cycle includes both washing and drying, three hours to have clean clothes or linens doesn’t really seem too bad to me.

Vented vs. Non-Vented Washer-Dryers

To be clear, all of the three types of washer-dryers we mentioned above can either be vented or non-vented, depending on their design.

But in addition to their size and operation, it’s really important to know whether a vented or non-vented washer-dryer makes more sense for your specific mobile home.

So let’s go over some distinct pros and cons quickly here.

Vented Washers And Dryers

Vented washer-dryer combos utilize the air inside of your RV (or outside if you set up your portable model that way) to dry your clothes.

This is a popular choice for RV use because they tend to use less water and electricity than non-vented models.

That being said, they will require you to hook them up to an air exhaust vent so that hot air doesn’t build up inside your rig.

And if you don’t already have a vent conveniently located close to where your washer and dryer are installed, then you’ll have to explore cutting a vent, which will obviously take more time and labor than you might’ve bargained for.

Non-Vented Washers And Dryers

Non-vented (or ventless ) washer-dryers don’t require you to hook them up to an air exhaust vent because they heat the air inside of the drum to dry your clothes instead of relying on air from outside.

While that might sound better in theory, there are a few reasons why more experienced RVers tend to avoid this type of washer-dryer combo.

For starters, their need to heat the air inside the drum means that they’ll likely consume more propane than a vented model.

These designs also tend to use more water for the washing cycle and their drying cycles require much more time than a typical cycle for a vented washer-dryer.

However, if you don’t have the time or the skills to install a vent, this can be a good option for RVers who aren’t worried about increasing their water and propane gas consumption or their laundry taking a long time to be cleaned and dried.

Especially in these uncertain times, having a fully self-contained mobile home is one of the safest ways to keep traveling and exploring your own country.

And a mobile home can’t truly be self-contained without a functional washer and dryer unit somewhere inside.

We hope you’ve found an RV, travel trailer, or 5th wheel with a washer and dryer that you like on our list.

There are many to choose from out there, but these five caught our eye the most, so we just couldn’t help but share them with you.

And, as always, we wish you all the best on your upcoming road trip adventures!

Pros and Cons of Having an RV With a Washer and Dryer

Before I get started on my recommendations…

Let’s go over some pros and cons to help you decide if you would benefit from a washer/dryer setup, or if it would just be an extra hassle.

The most substantial benefit to having a washer and dryer right in your RV is convenience .  If you’ve ever lived anywhere that doesn’t have a washer and dryer, you know what a rough process doing your laundry can be.

It can also make your RV feel more like home , especially if you are used to having them in your traditional “sticks n bricks” home.

Being able to just throw clothes, towels, or linens right in the washing machine and go on with your day is a luxury you might not know you have until you don’t have it anymore.

Having a washer and dryer right in your RV means no more trips to the laundromat or RV park laundry room .

That means, you don’t have to plan your whole day around doing your laundry, and you don’t have to deal with getting quarters out and paying each time.

In a full-time RV, having a washer and dryer can be a life-changing amenity, but they do come with some drawbacks…

Living in an RV means trying to save space in any way you can, and washers and dryers are some of the largest rv appliances you could possibly have.

They can take up much-needed storage space , and make your RV feel more cramped.  You’ll also have to consider all the extra water and electricity you’ll use when you have a washer and dryer.

Buying a washer and dryer will also cost you a pretty penny. Plus, any repair and maintenance on the washer and dryer will just add on to the cost of having them.

Types of Washers and Dryers in Travel Trailers

If you’ve read through all those pros and cons and you’re still interested, then it’s time to decide what kind of washer and dryer you want in your RV.

Some of these options can help save space, money, and water or electricity.

Stackable washers and dryers are pretty self-explanatory. This just means that they are able to fit one on top of the other.

This is a great option for RVs, where space-saving is a huge priority. Most washers and dryers you’ll see in RVs are stackable.

Having one on top of the other also adds an extra bit of convenience to the dreaded task of laundry.

Here’s an example of a stackable washer dryer set from Equator on Amazon. They’re relatively comparable in size and price to any other typical residential set of washers and dryers.

A combo washer-dryer is a single machine that can both wash and dry your clothes. These are an excellent option if you want to save space. They’re easy to use and will wash your clothes just as well as any other washer.

However, they use a LOT more water compared to a typical washer/dryer set. This can be a huge drawback for RV-dwellers.

A washer and dryer combo also typically will not have as much drying power, so you’ll have to dry smaller loads than you would in a standard dryer.

Here’s a combo washer/dryer set from LG . It takes up half as much space as a typical washer/dryer set but it’s more expensive than some of the lower-end washer and dryer sets.

Combo Washer/Dryer

And last but not least… portable washer/dryers/

“Portable” just means that the washer and dryer are not hooked up to water or vent lines.

So, a portable RV washer and dryer is a good option if your RV does not have hookups for a washer and dryer.  They’re also significantly less expensive and much smaller compared to traditional washers and dryers.

But the drawbacks with portable washers and dryers really come down to washing and drying efficiency.

A portable washing machine also will not have the same capacity or washing powder compared to a residential washer. You have to do smaller loads of laundry and sometimes the “dryer” part is more of just a wringer-outer. You’ll still have to hang your clothes up on a clothesline to dry.

Here’s a portable washer and dryer combo from Vivohome on Amazon. It’s super compact and lightweight.

Each time you do laundry, you’ll fill the washer side with water, and direct the drain hose into the sink or shower.

10 Best Campers and RVs with a Washer and Dryer

Now let’s get into some of the best RVs that come with a washer and dryer.

Some of these options come with washers and dryers already installed, and some come with a space with hookups for washers and dryers.

I’ll cover a few options each for Class As, Class Cs, travel trailers, and fifth wheels:

Best Class A RVs with Washers and Dryers

Forest River FR3 30DS

Newmar dutch star 4081.

Best Class C RVs with Washers and Dryers

  • Jayco Seneca 37D

Thor Quantum KW29

Alright, let’s check ‘em out!

Top 2 Best Class A RVs with Washers and Dryers

Let’s start with the largest of the RVs… Class A’s!

If you have a large family in a big class A, having an RV washer and dryer could be a huge plus. So here are a couple of large and in charge Class A RVs with washers and dryers.

Forest River FR3 30DS

Source: forestriverinc.com

A spacious Class A with a washer and dryer combo in the master bedroom

  • Slide-outs make for a spacious layout
  • Private bedroom
  • Large kitchen
  • Shower is separate from bathroom area

The Forest River FR3 is one popular Class A option that comes with a washer and dryer.

The washer/dryer area is located all the way at the rear of the vehicle in the bedroom closet. This back bedroom is really nice because it’s closed off from the rest of the space, making it completely private.

This large class A sleeps up to 7 and has a nice sized kitchen. The inside has a pretty spacious layout due mostly to the slide-out located in the living area.

One thing I’m not too keen on in this Class A is the bathroom setup. The shower is located in a separate room from the sink and toilet.

Other than the odd bathroom setup, the layout of this Class A is great. The price is also on the lower end compared to other luxury Class As.

Here’s a video tour of the FR3 30DS:

Newmar Dutch Star 4081 comes with washer dryer

Source: newmarcorp.com

A luxury class A with a concealed washer dryer space in one of two bathrooms

  • Two bathrooms
  • Many layout options
  • Luxurious interior

The 2022 Newmar Dutch Stars have a whopping eleven layout options. ALL of these layouts come with a washer and dryer.

You can decide if you want your RV washer and dryer in the living area, bedroom, or bathroom. This model (the 4081) has a washer and dryer tucked away in a bathroom cabinet.

The 4081 also has TWO bathrooms–well, one and a half technically. There’s a toilet and sink in the living area, and a full bathroom connected to the large bedroom.

For all this space and gorgeous amenities, you definitely have to pay the price.

At the time I’m writing this, the 2022 Dutch Stars are starting at $490,000… yikes!! If you have the budget, though, these are gorgeous vehicles that have anything and everything you could ask for in a Class A RV.

Check out this super in-depth video tour of the 2022 Newmar Dutch Star showing the 4081 floor plan.

2 Best Class C RVs with Washers and Dryers

Compared to Class A RVs, there are fewer Class C’s that come with washers and dryers. But they’re out there!

Here are a couple of my choices for the best Class C RVs out there that come with washers and dryers…

Jayco Seneca 37K

Jayco Seneca 37K

Source: jayco.com

A large and pricey Super Class C with lots of floor space and a stackable washer/dryer set

  • Double bathroom
  • Spacious floor plan
  • Full-sized fridge

The Jayco Seneca is considered a “Super Class C”, which just means it’s longer than a typical Class C. That means the Seneca can pack in some great amenities.

The Seneca has two toilets. One is located in the living area and the other is located in a full bathroom in the back of the vehicle along with a walk-in shower.

The Seneca packs some fancy features into this layout. The bed in the master bedroom has a powered head lift, a pretty rare feature in RVs. The washer and dryer are located in a closet in that bedroom.

You’ll also get a fireplace and a residential-sized fridge. These are also both rare to see in class C’s. But these are pretty pricey.

At the time I’m writing this, these bad boys are going for at least $300,000.

Thor Quantum KW29 class c with washer dryer

Source: thormotorcoach.com

Luxury Class C with stackable washer and dryer closet

  • Gorgeous interior
  • Skylight over cab area
  • King-sized bed
  • Feels a bit cramped

The Thor Quantum , built on a Ford Chassis is really a beautifully designed Class C.

This layout sleeps up to 7 people! That’s a whole lot for a Class C.

The washer and dryer space has its own closet made for a stackable washer/dryer unit. It’s located just outside the bathroom.

I think this is a perfect location for the RV washer and dryer area. Most other RVs have the washer and dryer in the bedroom area, which can be inconvenient.

Just a disclaimer, though, this RV does not come with a washer and dryer, you’ll have to purchase them separately.

You’re getting a lot of sleeping area, and nice amenities with this Class C. This also unfortunately means it feels a bit cramped inside, especially in the bedroom.

Here’s a walkthrough tour of the Quantum KW29. (It shows the 2019 model which is very similar to the newer models):

3 Best 5th Wheels with a Washer and Dryer

If you want a super large RV, but don’t quite want to go for a Class A, 5th wheels might be your best bet.

And luckily, there are tons of great 5th wheels out there that come with washers and dryers to keep up with all your laundry.

Here are a few great ones I picked out…

Highland Ridge Open Range 284RLS

Highland Ridge Open Range 284RLS 5th wheel with washer and dryer spot

Source: highlandridgerv.com

A large 5th wheel with a washer dryer prep in the bedroom closet that sleeps 6

  • Spacious layout
  • Nice, large shower
  • Has a fireplace
  • Washer/dryer isn’t stacked

The 2022 Open Range from Highland Ridge RV is a great choice if you’re shopping for 5th wheels with washer/dryer prep.

The RV washer and dryer would be located in the bedroom area on either side of the bedroom closet.

The 2022 Open Range comes with three different floor plans that offer washer/dryer prep. The one I’ve got here is the 284RLS, which has a great open floor plan. I really love the way the kitchen is set up with the sink in the island and seating surrounding it. The bathroom is also really spacious in this model, with a nice sized shower.

That being said, the washer/dryer setup is not ideal on this fifth wheel in my opinion. The washer will be on one side of the closet and the dryer on the other.

This model also does not come with a washer and dryer, you’ll have to purchase those separately.

Here’s a full video tour of the interior and exterior of the Open Range:

Heartland Elkridge 37BAR 5th wheel floorplan with prep space for washer and dryer

Source: heartlandrvs.com

A large fifth wheel with a king sized bed and a washer dryer prep space

  • Breakfast bar
  • Stackable washer dryer closet
  • Doesn’t sleep many for how large it is

This large fifth wheel from Heartland has a great layout. The master bedroom area is separated from the living area by a little staircase. In the master bedroom area, you’ve got a large bathroom, and a king-sized bed. The washer/dryer area is located in a corner next to the master bedroom closet.

The washer/dryer area is a small closet allowing for a stacked washer/dryer that’ll be purchased separately.

The kitchen and living area is also awesome with a fireplace and cute breakfast bar. The bar is probably the most unique feature of this fifth wheel.

While the Elkridge has a ton of seating space, it only sleeps 3-4. For how large it is, this is a pretty low sleeping capacity.

Check out this tour:

Shasta Phoenix 336RL

Source: shastarving.com

A luxury fifth wheel with an island and pantry in the kitchen, plus a washer and dryer located in the master bedroom

  • Residential-sized pantry
  • Kitchen island with barstools and cooktop
  • Large shower
  • Only sleeps 4

Shasta’s Phoenix has some great features and tons of different layout options.

This layout, the 336RL has an incredible kitchen. The kitchen has an island with two barstools and a cooktop, as well as a residential-sized pantry. The bathroom has a pretty large shower. The washer and dryer are located at the front of the vehicle in the master bedroom.

The only drawback with this RV is that the washer and dryer are located on either side of the bedroom wardrobe.

This isn’t a great setup since you have to walk your laundry a few steps to get from the washer to the dryer.

The Phoenix only sleeps four people, which isn’t a lot considering how large this thing is.

Check out this video tour of the Phoenix:

3 Best Travel Trailers with a Washer and Dryer

And last but not least… travel trailers!

Typically lighter weight and smaller than 5th wheels, travel trailers are a bit shorter on space, but many still come with washers and dryers.

Forest River Salem 33TS bumper pull with a washer and dryer

An affordable travel trailer with washer and dryer and a bunk room that sleeps 8

  • Lots of sleeping options with large back bunk room
  • Outdoor kitchen
  • Crowded floor plan

Forest River’s Salem 33TS is way more affordable than a lot of similar RVs out there, but it still has some great features.

The master bedroom has the washer-dryer area located in the closet. It’s set up so the washer and dryer are stacked.

The bedroom is separated from the living area by a door. In the living area, there’s a versa lounge–which turns into a bed, and a fireplace.

In the way back of the trailer there’s another room Forest River calls the “ultimate bunkhouse”, which has a bunk bed on either side. The lower bed on the right side of the room can be folded out into a queen-sized bed.

The Salem really packs a lot into this travel trailer, which means that the floorplan does feel a bit crowded.

But really, I don’t think that’s too much of a sacrifice, especially if you’re looking for a travel trailer with a lot of sleeping room.

Palomino SolAire Ultra Lite 320TSBH

A lightweight travel trailer with washer and dryer prep in an enclosed space

  • Lightweight
  • Lots of sleeping options
  • Not the most comfortable sleeping setup

The SolAire Ultra Lite has its washer/dryer space in the master bedroom. It’s located in its own separate closet with double doors so it’s completely hidden away.

The trailer is pretty narrow but has three different slide-outs that help bolster up the inside space.

The back bunk room has a bunk bed atop the outdoor kitchen on one side, and a bunk bed on top of a pull-out bed on the other.

The versatile sleeping arrangements make room for a total of 8 people, which is a whole lot considering how lightweight this trailer is. (It’s got a GVWR of just under 10,000 pounds).

While you do get lots of sleeping room, not a lot of the mattresses are going to be super comfortable.

If you do want to upgrade your sleeping areas in this or any other RV, check out my article on how to do that here . And check here for the know-how about custom-order RV mattresses .

And here’s a walkthrough tour:

Jayco Jay Flight Bungalow 40LOFT

Travel trailer with unique over-bedroom loft and stacked washer/dryer prep

  • Ceiling fan
  • Over-bedroom loft makes the most of the space
  • Sliding glass entry door
  • High ceilings
  • Large and heavy

The Jayco Jayflight Bungalow 40LOFT has some pretty unique features as far as travel trailers go.

Firstly, I love the sliding glass doors leading into the living area, which has a 96-inch ceiling and a ceiling fan.

And most obviously, the loft area above the bedroom is a super unique touch. It’s rare to see these in travel trailers.

The stairs to the loft are located outside the master bedroom. Inside the loft is space for two twin beds, and a small wardrobe and dresser area.

With all these features, though, along with some really sturdy construction, the travel trailer is pretty heavy for what you’re getting.

It’s around 12,000 pounds, since it’s designed to be a more permanent option.

So, if you don’t have a truck with a towing capacity of over 12,000 pounds, this unique travel trailer might be a no-go for you.

RV Washer and Dryer FAQs

Can i add a washer and dryer to my current travel trailer.

If you have the space for it, you can definitely add your own washer and dryer to a travel trailer or RV. You just have to make sure you have enough water capacity and the correct hookups.

Do any pop-up campers have a washer and dryer?

Unfortunately, since pop-up campers are so small, there aren’t any that come with a washer and dryer.

If you want a washer and dryer in a popup camper, you’ll likely have to purchase a portable washer and dryer.

Do any class B RVs have a washer and dryer?

There aren’t any Class B RVs on the market that come with washers and dryers, you’ll have to purchase a portable washer/dryer if you want one in your Class B.

What does washer/dryer prep mean?

If an RV floor plan says it comes with washer and dryer prep, this just means that there is an area designated for a washer and dryer.

The laundry prep space in that RV will have water and air exhaust vent hookups for a washer and dryer set.

RVs that just have prep for a washer/dryer do not come with washers and dryers, you’ll have to purchase those separately.

Is Having a Washer and Dryer in Your RV Right for You?

If you’re willing to commit the space and extra money to having a washer and dryer in your RV, they can make your life a whole lot more convenient.

If not…then trips to the laundromat!!

Happy shopping!!

Is it Worth Having a Washer and Dryer in Your Travel Trailer?

Is it Worth Having a Washer and Dryer in Your Travel Trailer

If you’re a frequent RVer, having a washer and dryer in your travel trailer can be a great convenience.

Not only will it save you time and money when doing laundry while on the road, but it can also help keep your clothes looking their best during long trips.

While there are some considerations to make before investing in this type of equipment, it’s worth considering as an option for your home away from home.

Foremost, you’ll need to ensure the washer and dryer will fit within the confines of your trailer.

If you don’t have the space, looking into alternative solutions, such as portable laundry machines, using campground laundromats, or finding a local one might be necessary.

It’s also important to consider the garments you’ll wash on your trip. Some washers and dryers handle only certain fabrics, so it’s best to read up on the models you’re looking at before making a purchase.

Finally, think about how often you’ll be doing laundry and how much water you’ll need. A large-capacity washer and dryer may not be necessary if you’re only planning to do a load of laundry now and then.

Ultimately, whether to invest in a washer and dryer for your travel trailer is up to you.

Here are some pros and cons to consider before deciding if it’s worthwhile for your RV life:

  • Having a washer and dryer in your travel trailer means never having to leave home searching for a laundromat or suffering through weeks of dirty laundry.
  • You can save money by avoiding costly detergents at laundromats; instead, investing in bulk detergents that can last up to several months.
  • You won’t have to lug heavy bags of clothes around, saving time and energy.
  • Some models provide additional features such as spin cycles which reduce drying times, saving even more time.
  • A washer and dryer can be expensive, initially and in the future, with possible maintenance costs involved.
  • Installing a washer and dryer in your travel trailer takes up valuable space you could use for storage.
  • You must consider special plumbing considerations when setting up these appliances since they require access to water sources.
  • Power surges or lightning strikes can quickly damage an RV’s delicate electrical system without careful maintenance, resulting in costly repairs or replacements.

What Is the Smallest Travel Trailer with a Washer and Dryer?

What Is the Smallest Travel Trailer with a Washer and Dryer

The New 2023 Highland Ridge RV Open Range Light 275RLS , at a mere 34 feet in length, has a washer and dryer prep in the bedroom. It’s rare to find a travel trailer with a washer and dryer under 35 feet.

What Type of Washer and Dryer Can Fit in a Travel Trailer?

What Type of Washer and Dryer Can Fit in a Travel Trailer

Size is one of the most important factors when choosing a washer and dryer for your travel trailer.

Full-size laundry units are unsuitable for most campers, as they take up too much room.

Instead, look for stackable or portable models that fit into smaller spaces. Most RV dealers can advise you on the size units best suited for your particular trailer model.

Here are a few examples of washer and dryer units that can fit in a travel trailer.

1. Traditional Side-by-Side

What Type of Washer and Dryer Can Fit in a Travel Trailer Traditional Side by Side

While traditional side-by-side washer and dryer units can be bulky for mobile dwellings, they are ideal for those who don’t want to do multiple batches of laundry.

Plus, with a larger capacity, even the busiest of families can complete several loads in one go.

Yes, you may have to sacrifice floor space in your RV, but if you can clear a mountain of laundry quickly, it may be worth it.

2. Stackable

What Type of Washer and Dryer Can Fit in a Travel Trailer Stackable

Stackable washer and dryer units for travel trailers are a must-have for any RV lover looking for an efficient, space-saving way to wash their light loads.

These cleverly designed appliances come in a stackable form allowing users to economize on floor space, much like living in a chic studio apartment.

As if their modern design wasn’t enough, stackables are impressively energy efficient, designed with portability and convenience in mind.

The only tough decision you’ll need to make before purchasing a stackable washer and dryer unit is whether you will use electricity or propane to power the machines.

3. Combo

What Type of Washer and Dryer Can Fit in a Travel Trailer Combo

Who wouldn’t want the convenience of a washer and dryer in one compact unit?

That’s what combo washer and dryer units for travel trailers offer—a space-saving solution with ample efficiency that’s ideally suited for small living spaces.

Not only do these units save floor space, but they also typically require minimal energy to operate.

With their easy-to-use design, RVers love how convenient it is to have everything they need to keep their clothes clean in one place.

4. Portable

What Type of Washer and Dryer Can Fit in a Travel Trailer Portable

Portable washers and dryers are game changers for RVers who want to avoid hauling large appliances that add weight and bulk to their travels.

Not only do these units provide convenience, but there is a wide range of sizes, so even the tiniest RV spaces can accommodate them.

Portables come with various options, such as multi-stage drying systems, eco-friendly auto-sensing programs, and steam cycles that help reduce wrinkles and refresh clothes.

They are also incredibly energy efficient, using only a fraction of the electricity required by traditional washers and dryers. And many portable models allow for water conservation by using a “rinse and spin” cycle.

How Do You Power a Washer and Dryer in a Travel Trailer?

How Do You Power a Washer and Dryer in a Travel Trailer

There are several ways to power a washer and dryer in a travel trailer, depending on the electrical systems in the trailer and the type of appliances you use.

  • Hooking up to shore power: If you have access to a power source while camping, such as an RV park with electrical hookups, you can connect your travel trailer to shore power to run the washer and dryer.
  • Generator: If you don’t have access to shore power, you can use a portable generator to power your appliances.
  • Inverter: An inverter can convert the power from the battery in your travel trailer to the AC power required by the washer and dryer. However, this method may only be suitable for running the appliances for a short period as it can drain your battery quickly.
  • Solar panels: You can use solar panels to generate power stored in the travel trailer battery.
  • Propane: Propane-powered appliances are becoming increasingly popular in travel trailers, as they are energy efficient and easy to use.

It’s essential to note the electrical requirements of washers and dryers can differ, so be sure to consult the manual or manufacturer for the specific needs of your appliances.

Do You Need to Vent Your Camper Washer and Dryer?

Do You Need to Vent Your Camper Washer and Dryer

Vented dryers require an exhaust vent installed on your RV’s outside wall or roof so that the hot air produced during the drying cycle can escape.

Non-vented dryers, also known as condensation dryers, don’t require an exhaust vent as they use a built-in condensation system to remove the hot air created during the drying cycle.

Before installing your RV washer and dryer, double-check the manufacturer’s instructions for specific venting requirements.

Do Travel Trailers Come with Hookups or a Pre-installed Washer and Dryer?

Whether a travel trailer comes with hookups for a washer and dryer or a pre-installed unit depends on the specific model and manufacturer.

Some high-end travel trailers may come with a pre-installed washer and dryer, but it’s rare.

More often, travel trailers come with hookups for a washer and dryer but without the actual appliances. That way, you can choose the brand, type, and size of your washer and dryer to fit your needs.

Can You Use a Residential Washer and Dryer?

Can You Use a Residential Washer and Dryer

Yes, it is possible to use a residential washer and dryer in an RV. However, there are a few factors to consider when choosing appliances for an RV, as the electrical and plumbing systems in an RV differ from those in a residential home.

For example, the voltage of an RV is typically lower than that of a home, so you must choose washers and dryers compatible with your electrical system.

How Do You Do Laundry in an RV without a Washer and Dryer?

How Do You Do Laundry in an RV without a Washer and Dryer

Doing laundry in an RV without a washer and dryer can be challenging. However, there are several options for cleaning your clothes without bulky appliances.

  • Laundromat: One of the most common methods people use when they don’t have a washer and dryer is visiting a laundromat, whether at the campground or in town.
  • Hand Washing: Hand washing is an option for small loads of laundry. You can use a basin or sink to wash the clothes and hang them to dry. Hand washing is a good option if you’re traveling in a remote area with no laundry facilities.
  • Campground shower facilities: Some campgrounds have shower facilities for washing clothes. Bring a bucket into the shower, fill it with soap and water, and use it to wash your clothes.

Selecting Your Ideal Travel Trailer with Washer and Dryer in 2024

Photo of author

All types of RVs and campers can be configured to accommodate a washer and dryer or a combination unit. However, this possibility hinges on the available space and water and electrical connections, which can pose limitations in any RV. Consequently, it is crucial to meticulously explore specific RV brands and travel trailer series that may offer built-in washers and dryers. Integrating these appliances into a floor plan is a complex task, not only due to space constraints but also because the water tanks and wiring may not be preconfigured. Therefore, it is advisable to assess these factors in advance if there is a desire to have this feature. Let’s talk laundry in your RV – one of the game-changers that can bring both convenience and a few challenges. Some brief pros and cons about having a washer and a dryer in a camper to consider.

Having a washer and dryer in an RV brings notable advantages, primarily offering unparalleled convenience and time savings for laundry tasks. The upfront cost is offset by long-term savings, making it a cost-effective option over time. RVers gain a sense of independence, privacy, and flexibility, as they can do laundry on their own schedule and in any weather conditions. This feature is particularly beneficial for full-time RVers, contributing to a more home-like living experience. Additionally, having onboard laundry facilities enhances the overall appeal and potential resale value of the RV.

While the comfort of having a laundry facility onboard, especially for families with kids, is priceless, there’s a catch.

While having a washer and dryer in an RV can offer convenience, there are some cons to consider:

  • Limited Space: RVs have limited space, and dedicating it to a washer and dryer may reduce overall living and storage space.
  • Weight and Space Constraints: Washers and dryers add weight to the RV, potentially impacting fuel efficiency and requiring consideration of weight limitations.
  • Energy Consumption: RVs may have limited power sources, and running a washer and dryer can be energy-intensive, especially if relying on generator power or solar panels.
  • Water Usage: Laundry appliances require water, and managing water consumption can be challenging in an RV, especially when boondocking or in areas with limited water availability.
  • Maintenance Concerns: RV washers and dryers may require more maintenance, and repairs can be challenging while on the road.
  • Cost: The upfront cost of purchasing an RV with a built-in washer and dryer, or installing one, can be significant compared to using laundromats or other off-site options.
  • Reduced Storage Options: The space taken up by a washer and dryer could otherwise be used for storage, and RVers may need to find alternative solutions for storing belongings.

Overall, I would say that for an experience, the drum movements might not be your washer’s favorite dance. But for full-timers, it’s often a must-have, right? And if you’re not constantly on the move with your camper, those laundry days can be a breeze.

Ultimately, the convenience, self-sufficiency, and efficiency provided by an onboard washer and dryer make it a valuable addition for many RV enthusiasts.

Before opting for a washer and dryer in an RV, it’s essential to weigh these cons against the convenience they offer and consider personal preferences and travel habits.

Travel Trailer with Washer and Dryer: Our Top 5 Ranking

  • October 18, 2019 /
  • By Shelly P.

Even going traveling in an RV does not give the wife a break from doing some of her normal duties. But with the built-in washers and dryers many TT have, you can help her out and make her vacation even better.

Travel Trailer with Washer and Dryer: There are quite a few TT that come with their own washer and dryer. One of the best on the market is the Jayco Jay Flight Bungalow Travel trailer. Next to it would be the Highland Ridge Travel Trailer.

In fact, you could find a lot of top TT with built-in washers and dryers. All you need to do is continue to read our article. It is filled with the information you want to make sure you get your hands on one of the top TTs that come with their own cleaning appliances

Do RVs Have a Washer and Dryer

jayco travel trailer with washer and dryer

If you hate taking your laundry to a strange town’s laundromat or to the RV park’s laundry facilities, you are in for some good news. There are many newer RV models that do come with their own washer and dryer.

And if they do not have the actual washer and dryer unit installed before you purchase it, the manufacturers have already plumbed the rig to make sure you can get one installed very easily.

RV manufacturers have been listening to their treasured customers and have seen that adding a washer and dryer is the next feature that will help them sell more vehicles and travel trailers.

If you are not lucky enough to be able to purchase one of those models, you have the option of finding the right space in your current older RV and install your own. RVs can be remodeled or modified to fit these convenient appliances inside.

Your RV life will be a bit easier to live even though you never can get away from doing your laundry chores

What RVs Have Washer and Dryers

jayco travel trailer with washer and dryer

There are probably too many RVs to list here that do come with their own washer and dryer. So we will stick, for the most part, to just saying that there are a few Class Cs that have them factory installed and these are few and far between.

If you want an RV with those appliances you will have to upgrade to a more recent Class A RV to get that convenience. To find specific models you can contact the different dealers or manufacturers to get a complete list.

What we will do is give a short list of TT and 5 th wheel trailers that have washer and dryers installed in select models. These are as follows:

5th wheel Trailers:

  • Sandpiper 378FB
  • ElkRidge 35IKOK
  • Durango 2500 D325RLT
  • Laredo 310RS
  • Denali 293RKS
  • Reflection 320MKS
  • SIERRA 343RSOK

Travel trailers:

  • Jay Flight Bungalow Travel Trailer
  • Highland Ridge Travel Trailer
  • Design Navigation NV2
  • Keystone RV Montana Trailer
  • Rushmore’s CrossRoads Washington Trailer

The last two are probably 5 th wheel trailers but they were included in the data for travel trailers.

Best Travel Trailer with Washer and Dryer

jayco travel trailer with washer and dryer

This is going to be a subjective answer and no matter which one we list, we are sure some of our readers will disagree with our selection. But that is okay as everyone does have their own preferences and enjoy the washer and dryer set up in their personal vehicle.

We admit that there are far too many RVs, TTs and 5 th wheels out there that have washer and dryers to really choose one over the other. But we have to make a choice so we will go with the Recreation Travel Trailer by Design Navigation NV2.

The reason for this selection is that this TT has 3 pop-outs over its 32 foot length. Along with that, it comes with a lot of amenities that help make it stand out over the rest.

These amenities include 2 60 pound LPG tanks , indoor and outdoor speakers and video systems as well as a microwave and awnings. That is on top of the washer and dryer set up inside

You get great living space and the children should have enough room to avoid getting on each others’ nerves. That is a plus no matter where you are at.

Bumper Pull Camper with Washer and Dryer

There are a few bumper pull campers that come with their own washer and dryer. One model is the Arctic Fo x 30U but it is not that long. It can be a bit heavy yet it is on a good frame and the rest of the camper is well built.

Another selection can be the Open Range and it is a very well built unit that some RV owners would not do without. Finally, the Montana series has one in their bumper pull camper.

The only drawback to this model is that it may take a few extra spins in the dryer to get your clothes nice and dry. That is going to be the situation with a lot of smaller washers and dryers. Their performance may not be up to expectations because of the lack of power and other factors that come with smaller units.

If worse comes to worse, you can always opt to use a very portable washer and dryer. They do not take up a lot of space nor add a lot of weight to your rig. It might take longer to get your clothes clean but they will save on space and let you store more important items.

Smallest Travel Trailer with Washer and Dryer

jayco travel trailer with washer and dryer

It is very difficult to say which one is the smallest travel trailer that comes with a washer and dryer. When the TTs are small that is one convenience that is sacrificed for other appliances and furniture options. Plus, small TTs need storage space than their larger counterparts.

The smallest one we were able to find was the Keystone Montana High Country 295RL as an internet search did not produce anything smaller than that. This unit measures in at 29 feet in size. Smaller TTs with washer and dryers are rare for the reasons already mentioned.

But if you have a smaller trailer, and you can spare the room, there is nothing stopping you from modifying it and installing your own washer and dryer. We should mention that Montana model is a 5 th wheel and it is smaller than some TTs.

So you can see the trouble there is in finding smaller units with a washer and dryer. The style of washer and dryer for that Montana can be either a combo or a 2 piece set.

Diesel RV with Washer and Dryer

There are many diesel-powered RVs that come with a washer and dryer set up. The one we selected to use here as an examples is the 2019 Entegra Coach Anthem 44B. It is a Class A RV and it has all the luxuries you would expect from this model of RV.

Its 45-foot length gives you and your family plenty of living space and the interior includes an L shaped sofa for comfort. Also, you get a 50” television and a fireplace to make sure you can relax in total comfort and pretend you are out in the woods.

We also found a lot of older diesel RVs, from 2007 to 09, that come with their own washer and dryers. That means you do not have to buy new to get the convenience you want.

All you have to do is decide what kind of RV you want and let your computer handle the search for you. There are enough dealers out there waiting for you to take on of their vehicles off their hands.

Class B RV with Washer and Dryer

We did not find one Class B RV with a washer and dryer installed by the manufacturer. That does not mean there are not any it is just that every floor plan we looked at, none were included.

There is a very good reason for the exclusion of a washer and dryer in a Class B RV. There is just not enough room for them. These RVs can fit in your garage which tells how little space they really have.

Plus, you do not get a lot of room for your toilet, shower or other necessary items like pantry and your fridge. If you want to sacrifice some vital asset, then you may find a Class B RV with a set of washers and dryers but so far, we have found none.

Also, keep in mind that the Class B RV is running around 2o to 25 feet long, which makes the 29 footer we mentioned above look huge in comparison while being the smallest RV with a washer and dryer.

RVs with Washer and Dryer Hookups

It is possible that you will find more RVs , TTs, and 5 th wheels have washer and dryer hookups than they do washer and dryers. Not everyone wants to pay the extra money for factory-installed appliances and finding your own can save you quite a few dollars.

Plus, many of the larger 4 season 5 th wheel trailers do have washer and dryer hookups because these units are designed to be used for longer periods of time. That will be the same for other RVs as well.

Having the option to install your own W & D is just as good as having the washer and dryer already there. The reason it is just as good is that you can choose your own appliance brand and not be restricted to one that company has put inside their rigs.

You get a little freedom to choose your own models and make sure you can save some money instead of paying the higher prices for those brand specific styles. Then even if you do not have a washer and dryer hook up all hope is not lost.

You can use a hose adapter and hook up a Splendide ventless model to your kitchen sink. That version of a washer gives you more options without paying for modifications or renovations to your RV.

Do I Need a 220 Volt Hook up to Run a Dryer in My RV

Not necessarily. There are some models of dryers that are built to work on 110 volts of power. They may not be as strong or as hot as a 220 volt version but it will dry your clothes.

If you want to use a 220-volt dryer, you will need a 50 amp service supply, a 30 amp will not do and you will have to install if it is not already there , a 220-volt electrical outlet to plug into.

When you are choosing a washer and dryer, check with your RV’s manufacturer to make sure the unit you want is compatible with the RV you already own. Because there are some power limitations, most RV manufacturers do not encourage their customers to buy a 220 volt dryer.

When you are parked at an RV park or campground, the supply of the electricity may not be at a premium. You may not get the power you need to run your dryer. While you can use a 220-volt dryer, it just may not be expedient or practical.

Some Final Words

Washing your clothes at a public laundromat is not the end of the world. It may be better than using your own washer and dryer built into your RV. But you cannot beat the convenience of using your own appliance whenever and wherever you want.

If you want to have your own washer and dryer, there are plenty of travel trailers and RVs that come with them or the hook-ups already in place. You just need to decide on which model you want to buy.

Best RV Washer and Dryer Combo Or Setup

A re you searching for the best RV washer dryer combo in the market? If you’re preparing for RV living full time , consider getting the best RV washer and dryer combo. While it is not necessary, the convenience of doing laundry while on the road can be a significant plus when living in your RV.

Well, the reality is some RVers choose to have their laundry done at campgrounds or nearby laundromats. We did!

However, if you are looking for the best RV for full time living and have the space in it, you’ll appreciate having your own RV washer dryer combo setup.

There are different types of washer dryer combos to choose from. Depending on the space available in your RV and how often you travel, the kind most suitable for your needs may vary.

In this article, I’ll show you some of the best washer-dryer combos for RVs, especially for beginners buying motorhome accessories and appliances. So if you want to know more, keep reading!

What To Search for in an RV Washer Dryer Combo

Before we get to the best RV washer and dryer combo models, let’s discuss what you should search for when buying a combination unit.

Location and Size

The size of your camper washer dryer matters, depending on the space you have for it to be set up in. So, where should your washer/dryer go exactly?

In modern RVs, many owners place their washer/dryer combo unit in a specially made closet in their bedroom that the manufacturer created for it. Now, if your RV is a bit older, you may need to do a little modifying in your bedroom closet, or possibly create a space in your RV toyhauler garage space if you have one. Just make sure the space allows for venting to the outside for your dryer.

Another essential thing to consider when buying the best washer and dryer for your RV is the power source. This includes both electric and gas-powered units.

Electric washer-dryer combos need to be plugged into a 110-volt outlet and should last for longer cycles compared to gas-powered units. Gas-powered units are cheaper but may only last for a short time due to propane or natural gas use.

Of course, budget always comes into play when buying any appliance. It’s no different regarding the best RV washer dryer set.

Most electric units cost more than gas-powered ones because they are more efficient and last longer. And just like all other appliances you buy for your RV, you should know the price before purchasing.

Another essential factor to consider is the capacity of the washer and dryer combo. Most RVers would want a model that can do both jobs well and simultaneously. So make sure you read up on your chosen model’s capacity before purchasing.

Pro Tip: when looking for an RV washer determine how many gallons of water it willt ake to fill the washer and how many callongs your RV’s gray water tank will hold.

Ease Of Use

Of course, if you’re investing in an RV with washer and dryer combo, you would want it to be as easy to use as possible. While most of these models are user-friendly, ensure you read up on how easy or difficult it is to operate before purchasing.
