We live in an age of unprecedented access to digital technology – and with it, brand new ways of exploring the world around us.

While it's not quite the same as seeing, say, the Mona Lisa or Christ the Redeemer in person, some of the world’s most popular and remote destinations have created libraries of online images and video, as well as 360 degree virtual tours that let you virtually explore museums, galleries, world wonders and even national parks.

Here a just a few of the best digital tours that let you wander the world from wherever you may be social distancing.

See the seven wonders of the world

If there’s anything capable of whetting your appetite for world travel, it is the new seven wonders of the world:  the Great Wall of China , the ancient city of Petra , the Taj Mahal , the Colosseum , Machu Picchu , Christ the Redeemer , and Chichen Itza . Thankfully there are impressive virtual tours of each from The New York Times , AirPano , Google , and Panoramas .

With modern technology, you can even see the last standing wonder of the ancient world— The Pyramids of Giza . There are a few other wonders that might not make it into to the top seven but are still worth a digital peek, like the Alhambra , Seville's La Giralda , and even Easter Island.

Best virtual museum tours

In recent years, Google has partnered with over 2,5000 art museums to upload high-resolution versions of millions of pieces of art. Highlights include New York’s MoMA , DC’s National Gallery of Art , Chicago’s Art Institute , the Casa Battl ó, and Amsterdam’s Van Gogh Museum to name a few.

In addition, The Louvre offers a virtual tour , as do The Vatican Museums , many of the Smithsonian Museums , the Russian Museum , the top-rated British Museum , the Minneapolis  Museum of Russian Art , and the Palace Museum in Beijing.

You may not be able to kiss the Blarney Stone right now, but you can tour the Blarney Castle from afar. You can also visit the Museum of Flight,  the Museum of Science, the Museum of Natural History,  the National Women's History Museum  and Boston's History of Science Museum .

While museums are often an inherently visual experience, there's a lot to be learned from archives of past lectures and tours like the ones preserved online by Nashville's Frist Museum , the Hunter Museum of American Art in Chattanooga, Tennessee, the Smithsonian American Art Museum,  the Frick , and others.

Explore national parks

While travel to National Parks is best avoided for the time being, you don't need to miss out on the scenery. Virtual Yosemite is absolutely stunning and one of the best, replete with audio. Both Yellowstone National Park and Mount Rushmore offer virtual tours as well. 

Google has similar 360 degree audio-visual tours of five select national parks, including Kenai Fjords, Hawai'i Volcanos , Carlsbad Caverns, Bryce Canyon , and Dry Tortugas, as well as 31 more on Google Earth . You can also get an up-close look at almost 4,000 pieces of artwork, artifacts, and other treasures related to the history and culture of the national parks, and view online exhibits .

Digital safaris

Wildlife is a big draw for travelers, whether it's sighting some of the Big Five in Africa, glimpsing whales in North America, or introducing your children to new animals in person on a family safari . But if you're forays into the bush are grounded for now, many zoos and aquariums have created digital access to their habitats.

You can easily watch several live webcams of some of the nation’s greatest zoos and aquariums, including the  San Diego Zoo , Houston Zoo , Zoo Atlanta , the Tennessee Aquarium , and the Georgia Aquarium . Additionally you can see Canadian farm animals doing their thing , or you could watch Stella the Dog jump endlessly into huge piles of Maine leaves.

Frequently Asked Questions: Guidance for Travelers to Enter the U.S.

Since January 22, 2022, DHS has required non-U.S. individuals seeking to enter the United States via land ports of entry and ferry terminals at the U.S.-Mexico and U.S.-Canada borders to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 and provide proof of vaccination upon request.  On April 21, 2022, DHS announced that it would extend these requirements. In determining whether and when to rescind this order, DHS anticipates that it will take account of whether the vaccination requirement for non-U.S. air travelers remains in place.

These requirements apply to non-U.S. individuals who are traveling for essential or non-essential reasons. They do not apply to U.S. citizens, Lawful Permanent Residents, or U.S. nationals.

Effective November 8, 2021, new air travel requirements applied to many noncitizens who are visiting the United States temporarily. These travelers are also required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination. All air travelers, including U.S. persons, must test negative for COVID-19 prior to departure. Limited exceptions apply. See  CDC guidance  for more details regarding air travel requirements.

Entering the U.S. Through a Land Port of Entry or Ferry Terminal

Q. what are the requirements for travelers entering the united states through land poes.

A:  Before embarking on a trip to the United States, non-U.S. travelers should be prepared for the following:

• Possess proof of an approved COVID-19 vaccination as outlined on the  CDC  website.
• During border inspection, verbally attest to their COVID-19 vaccination status. 
• Bring a  Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative  compliant border crossing document, such as a valid passport (and visa if required), Trusted Traveler Program card, a Department of State-issued Border Crossing Card, Enhanced Driver’s License or Enhanced Tribal Card when entering the country. Travelers (including U.S. citizens) should be prepared to present the WHTI-compliant document and any other documents requested by the CBP officer.

 Q. What are the requirements to enter the United States for children under the age of 18 who can't be vaccinated?

A:  Children under 18 years of age are excepted from the vaccination requirement at land and ferry POEs.

Q: Which vaccines/combination of vaccines will be accepted?

A:  Per CDC guidelines, all Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved and authorized vaccines, as well as all vaccines that have an Emergency Use Listing (EUL) from the World Health Organization (WHO), will be accepted.

Accepted Vaccines:

• More details are available in CDC guidance  here .
• 2 weeks (14 days) after your dose of an accepted single-dose COVID-19 vaccine;
• 2 weeks (14 days) after your second dose of an accepted 2-dose series;
• 2 weeks (14 days) after you received the full series of an accepted COVID-19 vaccine (not placebo) in a clinical trial;
• 2 weeks (14 days) after you received 2 doses of any “mix-and-match” combination of accepted COVID-19 vaccines administered at least 17 days apart.

Q. Is the United States requiring travelers to have a booster dose to be considered fully vaccinated for border entry purposes?

A:  No. The CDC guidance for “full vaccination” can be found here.

Q: Do U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents need proof of vaccination to return to the United States via land POEs and ferry terminals?

A:  No. Vaccination requirements do not apply to U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or Lawful Permanent Residents (LPRs). Travelers that exhibit signs or symptoms of illness will be referred to CDC for additional medical evaluation.

Q: Is pre- or at-arrival COVID testing required to enter the United States via land POEs or ferry terminals?

A: No, there is no COVID testing requirement to enter the United States via land POE or ferry terminals. In this respect, the requirement for entering by a land POE or ferry terminal differs from arrival via air, where there is a requirement to have a negative test result before departure.

Processing Changes Announced on January 22, 2022 

Q: new changes were recently announced. what changed on january 22.

A:  Since January 22, 2022, non-citizens who are not U.S. nationals or Lawful Permanent Residents have been required to be vaccinated against COVID-19 to enter the United States at land ports of entry and ferry terminals, whether for essential or nonessential purposes. Previously, DHS required that non-U.S. persons be vaccinated against COVID-19 to enter the United States for nonessential purposes.  Effective January 22, all non-U.S. individuals, to include essential travelers, must be prepared to attest to vaccination status and present proof of vaccination to a CBP officer upon request. DHS announced an extension of this policy on April 21, 2022.

Q: Who is affected by the changes announced on January 22?

A: This requirement does not apply to U.S. citizens, U.S. nationals, or U.S. Lawful Permanent Residents. It applies to other noncitizens, such as a citizen of Mexico, Canada, or any other country seeking to enter the United States through a land port of entry or ferry terminal.

Q: Do U.S. citizens need proof of vaccination to return to the United States via land port of entry or ferry terminals?

A: Vaccination requirements do not apply to U.S. Citizens, U.S. nationals or U.S. Lawful Permanent Residents. Travelers that exhibit signs or symptoms of illness will be referred to CDC for additional medical evaluation. 

Q: What is essential travel?

A:  Under the prior policy, there was an exception from temporary travel restrictions for “essential travel.” Essential travel included travel to attend educational institutions, travel to work in the United States, travel for emergency response and public health purposes, and travel for lawful cross-border trade (e.g., commercial truckers). Under current policy, there is no exception for essential travel.

Q: Will there be any exemptions? 

A: While most non-U.S. individuals seeking to enter the United States will need to be vaccinated, there is a narrow list of exemptions consistent with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Order in the air travel context.

• Certain categories of individuals on diplomatic or official foreign government travel as specified in the CDC Order
• Children under 18 years of age;
• Certain participants in certain COVID-19 vaccine trials as specified in the CDC Order;

We're fans of the original, though, thanks to its clean and straightforward to use interface. Hit the packages section of the site, and you can add up to five connecting flights, choose to add accommodation for all of or only part of your trip, and tag on car rentals too. 

It's all suitably well laid out, and it only takes a few seconds to start putting together your itinerary. However, we do wish there were a few more options for filtering out accessibility issues. Still, for most people, Expedia.com has everything they'll need, and there's even the option of a cruise too if you fancy it. It's as aspirational to look at as it is useful to, well, use and there are extra discounts for booking multiple parts of your vacation with the site. A Things To Do section rounds off the site's bid to help you plan your entire trip in one place.

2. Booking.com: Best for ease of use

Booking.com is a giant in the world of holiday bookings and not only offers over half a million properties in more than 207 countries but also offers flights and car rental services too. As such you can do it all from this one spot which makes it a very easy-to-use option. That said, there is a lot going on, and the user interface can be a little overwhelming at times. 

But with a superb rewards program, it is a great option that encourages you to keep coming back, making it easier to use as you become accustomed. You can even sort your taxi hire from this site meaning there is very little to think about when you get traveling as it's all been planned ahead of time. You also don't have to pay a booking fee on lots of hotels, allowing you to remain flexible – ideal if you're traveling about a lot on your journey.

CheapTickets is another site acquired by Expedia, but it does things a little differently. So far, so Expedia (if less intuitive), but you can also clearly purchase event tickets from the site, which is far more useful if you want a one-stop-shop place to buy your trip. It's something other sites provide, but CheapTickets is that bit keener to entice you into the process, even if the site itself is a little cheesier looking than others. 

There's also the site's Vacation Value Finder, which lets you tweak how much you're willing to spend and what you're looking for from a vacation before making some fun suggestions. It's perfect for finding a last-minute deal if you don't have your heart set on one place. Students will also appreciate a section dedicated to them with extra discounts once you verify you're a student. All in all, it's a great varied site for numerous different needs. 

4. Priceline.com: Best for user reviews

Priceline is a big deal in the online travel site world for a good reason. It's effortless to use with options available for flights, cars, hotels, or any combination of the three. It's mildly annoying that Priceline's super cheap Pricebreaker deals don't extend to bundles, so you won't get an incredible bargain like you would if you booked separately. However, combining the set is still a worthwhile deal with discounts offered for the more you bundle together. 

One thing we really appreciated is that every hotel we looked at had dozens of reviews, and they're all from verified customers. It takes seconds to gain a reasonably accurate picture of what to expect from wherever you're considering booking. That's the perfect peace of mind when you're booking online, and you can't be sure of what you're getting without user reviews backing hotel statements up. Clearly laid out, you can focus on enjoying rather than worrying. Finally, Priceline is keen to make its VIP scheme easily accessible with straightforward discounts offered to you over time -- something that not all sites so clearly highlight. 

5. Kayak.com: Best for aggregated results 

If you're short on time, Kayak is pretty useful. That's because you simply enter where you want to go, and it aggregates results from multiple different sources. While it means you never book directly with Kayak, it does mean you get results quickly and without having to search around yourself, even if you will feel a bit overwhelmed with adverts while you search. 

The site itself looks a little basic, but under the hood is a surprising number of different filters (although no accessibility ones to speak of) and all the critical information you could require, although obviously you'll be sent to another site for the full details. Just watch out for the fact you can’t bundle in car rental deals. 

6. Hotwire.com: Best for renting properties 

Hotwire keeps things straightforward. All you need to do is enter what you're looking for, and a somewhat dated interface tells you what's available. It's not as pretty as some sites, but we really liked the extensive property type filters available. Want to stay on a houseboat or in a chalet at your destination? Hit the relevant filter, and you can find out if that's an option in the locale. That might not matter if your heart is set on a hotel, but it's a nice bonus even amongst the awkward site layout. 

Elsewhere, it's mostly business as usual, but that's no bad thing. Well laid out discounts are available to compare reasonably quickly, and most locations have plenty of reviews. If you feel like tracking down specific deals, you can do that too, with the site keen to offer up discounts to central locations if you're not quite sure where you'd like to visit next. It feels like the site needs updating when you compare it to its rivals, but it works well and speedily enough.

Where Can Americans Travel Right Now?

More than 100 countries currently allow U.S. citizens to visit, but some restrictions apply.

Travel is limited due to the coronavirus pandemic, but there are still some countries allowing American visitors.

The current global pandemic has many Americans rethinking the way they travel. Road trips and camping vacations have grown in popularity, as many Americans have discovered the country has more than its fair share of stunning natural landscapes, from the Grand Canyon to Acadia National Park. Some people have even created memorable vacations in their backyards.

However, if you're itching to leave the U.S., there are several countries around the world that will accept you (and your negative coronavirus test results), though some specific restrictions will apply. If you decide to travel, be sure to evaluate the risks and understand the safest ways to travel . You should also look out for yourself and others by taking necessary safety precautions and investing in one of the best face masks for travel .

Note that due to the pandemic, travel guidelines are constantly changing; you'll want to check your destination's official tourism website periodically before your trip. And, consider purchasing travel insurance , so you don't lose money if your U.S. passport is no longer accepted at the last minute.

Below are the countries that currently accept travelers from the United States. Note: As of Aug. 30, the European Union removed the U.S. from its safe list of countries and advised member countries to reinstate travel restrictions. However, it’s up to individual countries to decide on restrictions for incoming travelers, so keep an eye out for official announcements from any European destinations as things are changing quickly. If you decide to travel, you'll also want to check with the State Department for information on returning from your visit as there are some restrictions in place. As of Dec. 6, the CDC requires all passengers, regardless of vaccination status, traveling to the U.S. from a foreign country (including American citizens) to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than one day before their flight. Travelers should also be aware that the State Department has updated travel advisories for dozens of countries to Level 4: Do Not Travel, warning Americans to reconsider international travel due to the ongoing pandemic. As of Sept. 6, U.S. citizens must now submit to testing when traveling to Albania. PCR tests must be taken within 72 hours of travel and antigen tests must be taken within 48 hours; negative results are required for entry. Fully vaccinated travelers can bypass these requirements as long as they show proof of vaccination (as can anyone who can prove they recovered from COVID-19 in the past six months). Expect health screening procedures in airports, and prepare to abide by social distancing guidelines and a curfew. This tiny country between France and Spain is open to U.S. citizens. In order to enter, you’ll either need to show proof of vaccination completed at least 14 days before arrival, proof of negative test results within 72 hours of arrival or proof of recovery from the coronavirus. Americans can enter Angola as long as they show proof of a negative coronavirus test taken no more than 72 hours before traveling. Travelers must also fill out a Travel Registration Form and abide by screenings to enter. Visitors may also be required to test upon arrival and quarantine depending on the results. As of July 1, only travelers who can prove they have been fully vaccinated at least three weeks before arriving can visit Anguilla. They will have to apply for entry to the island before traveling and upload results from a negative coronavirus test taken two to five days before travel (or 48 hours prior to travel if taking an antigen test). Once on the island, they will be subject to another test and must stay at their accommodation until they receive a negative result. Antigua and Barbuda

Access to this Caribbean gem is contingent on a negative coronavirus test (for those older than 5) taken no more than four days prior to your flight. All arriving visitors must also prove they are fully vaccinated by an approved World Health Organization or Ministry of Health, Wellness and the Environment coronavirus vaccine. Travelers must also show proof of a negative PCR coronavirus test taken no more than four days before travel (or three days for a rapid antigen test). They may also be required to submit to testing upon arrival. American travelers will be subject to temperature checks and health screenings before being admitted into Antigua and Barbuda, no matter if they're coming from a plane, a cruise ship or another mode of transportation. All travelers regardless of vaccination status must provide proof of a negative coronavirus test taken no more than 72 hours before travel and complete an electronic sworn statement about their health 48 hours prior to travel. Unvaccinated travelers also have to complete a seven-day quarantine. For more information, visit the embassy website .

This western Asian country allows U.S. citizens to enter as long as they either present a negative coronavirus test taken no more than 72 hours prior to arrival, or agree to test upon arrival and quarantine until they receive negative results. Vaccine documentation cards are also accepted in lieu of a negative coronavirus test. Face masks are required in some public spaces throughout the country, but virtually every business is open in Armenia. According to its website , which is updated frequently with information on travel restrictions, Aruba is welcoming U.S. vacationers to the island. However, entrance hinges on travelers' completion of an online embarkation/disembarkation card and a health assessment, plus a negative coronavirus test taken no more than one day before arrival (for everyone 12 and older). Fully vaccinated (and boosted) travelers can show proof of vaccination instead of testing. The booster shot is not required for vaccinated travelers younger than 18. If you’re flying JetBlue to Aruba, you have the option to take an at-home, saliva-based Vault PCR Molecular COVID-19 test. All U.S. travelers also must purchase Aruba Visitor Insurance to ensure they are covered if health issues arise during their stay. Americans can enter this European nation without having to quarantine if they provide proof of vaccination and a booster shot. Those who are vaccinated but have not received a booster shot must provide proof of vaccination in addition to a negative test taken no more than 72 hours prior to travel. Those who are not vaccinated must present proof of a negative test taken no more than 72 hours before travel and quarantine for 10 days upon arrival at their own expense. The Bahamas

A popular tourist destination among stateside citizens, t he Bahamas are welcoming American visitors to the picturesque islands. Travelers must provide a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than 72 hours before arrival. This negative pretesting requirement extends to all travelers older than 11 (including vaccinated travelers). Visitors are also required to opt-in to health insurance that will cover them for the entirety of their stay (the cost of which depends on your vaccination status). U.S. citizens may travel to Bahrain without prior testing. However, all travelers older than 6 (aside from those who can prove they have recovered from COVID-19) must submit to and pay for a coronavirus test upon arrival. U.S. citizens must take a COVID-19 test within 48 hours of traveling to Bangladesh and prove the negative results with the appropriate documentation in order to enter the country. Even with proof of a negative test, unvaccinated travelers must complete a 14-day home quarantine period upon arriving in the country. As long as travelers (older than 5) complete a travel form online no less than 24 hours before their flight and provide a negative coronavirus test result taken within 72 hours of their entrance to the island, they can vacation in this Caribbean paradise. Starting Jan. 7, negative results from a rapid PCR test taken one day before travel will also be accepted. Even with a negative result in hand, travelers must quarantine in an approved hotel or villa for a minimum of three days at which time they can take another test to be released. Fully vaccinated travelers will still need to take a test prior to traveling, but they can skip the quarantine and the fourth day coronavirus test. U.S. citizens can travel to Belarus with some restrictions. Travelers need a negative coronavirus test no more than three days prior to arrival. Travelers will also be subject to health screenings, including temperature checks, at the port of entry. A seven-day self-quarantine is also required for unvaccinated travelers; vaccinated travelers can bypass quarantine. As of Sept. 1, only vaccinated Americans can visit picturesque cities like Brussels , Bruges and Antwerp. A test no more than 72 hours prior to travel, a test upon arrival and a period of self-quarantine pending receipt of a negative test result are also required, as is a second test again on day seven. American travelers (anyone 5 and older) will be required to present a negative coronavirus test taken no more than 96 hours prior to departure to Belize. (Rapid antigen tests taken no more than 48 hours before arrival are also accepted.) If you don’t present a negative test, you’ll have to front a $50 fee (paid in cash) and take a test upon arrival. A negative test means visitors can proceed to their Gold Standard Hotel. As of Feb. 15, all travelers regardless of vaccination status must purchase health insurance from a local insurance company. Americans don’t need a test before traveling to this African nation, but they will be subject to a rapid test and a PCR test upon arrival. They must also undergo a third test on day 15 of their stay. For more information, visit the embassy website .

This Atlantic paradise welcomes Americans to its pristine beaches as long as the travelers (ages 2 and older) present negative results from a COVID-19 test taken no more than four days before arrival. As of Dec. 13, all travelers (ages 12 and older) must also be fully vaccinated to enter Bermuda . Vaccinated travelers who tested negative prior to traveling must then take an arrival test and quarantine until they receive negative results. If you are vaccinated but did not come prepared with a pre-arrival test, you must quarantine until you receive negative results from a test on day four of your trip. This country allows Americans to visit as long as they show proof of a negative coronavirus test taken no more than 72 hours before travel. Masks are required in public spaces, and travelers should expect health screenings at the airport. All unvaccinated visitors must test again 72 hours after arrival and quarantine until they receive negative results. Check for any updates on the embassy website .

Bonaire requires all visitors 13 and older to provide negative test results taken no more than 48 hours prior to travel. They must also complete a health declaration form, take a self-test upon arrival and take a test five days after arrival. Travelers who are not vaccinated must quarantine until they receive negative results from the test on day five. Bonaire considers the U.S. to be a high-risk country. Bosnia and Herzegovina

The U.S. Embassy in Bosnia-Herzegovina states the country is open to American visitors as long as they can provide either proof of vaccination, proof of recovery from the coronavirus or proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than 72 hours before entry.

Americans who provide proof of negative coronavirus test results taken no more than 72 hours before departure can travel to Botswana. All visitors are also subject to a rapid antigen test upon arrival. Visitors should expect some restrictions on interstate travel between the country's different zones. Travelers from the U.S. (older than 12) must show proof of vaccination as well as a negative test taken no more than 72 hours before boarding the plane to Brazil. They must also complete a Traveler’s Health Declaration form. There are some health screening procedures in place at airports but no required quarantine period upon arrival. British Virgin Islands

These picturesque islands are now open for visitors. Any unvaccinated Americans (over age 5) planning to travel here must first show proof of a negative test taken three to five days prior to arrival. Completion of and payment for travel authorization certificate is also required. Unvaccinated visitors must be tested upon arrival, quarantine for seven days, and submit to a test on day seven, the results of which will determine if they can travel around the islands. Vaccinated travelers must show proof of a negative test taken no more than five days before arrival, but they can bypass quarantine and will not need to fill out the authorization certificate. Americans can once again travel from the U.S. to Bulgaria for tourism purposes. Bulgaria considers the U.S. a “red zone” country, so Americans must show either proof of vaccination, proof of recovery or proof of a negative coronavirus test taken no more than 72 hours prior to travel in order to enter. Travelers from the U.S. must obtain a visa to travel to Cambodia. The country has suspended its visa-on-arrival program until further notice, but travelers can now obtain visas online prior to travel. Travelers to Cambodia must be fully vaccinated and they must take a test 72 hours prior to arrival as well as upon arrival. Keep tabs on updates via the embassy website .

As of Aug. 9, vaccinated American travelers can travel to Canada. Visitors to this northern nation must be fully vaccinated with a Canada-approved vaccine (Pfizer, Moderna, J&J or AstraZeneca) and submit proof electronically through the ArriveCAN app. They must also show proof of a negative coronavirus test taken no more than 72 hours prior to entering. Select travelers may also be chosen at random to complete a test upon arrival. Americans can fly to Canada or choose to cross at a land border. Travelers from the U.S. can visit Cape Verde as long as they provide proof of a negative test (either PCR or antigen) taken no more than 72 hours before travel. There are no quarantine requirements upon arrival. For more information, visit the embassy website .

Americans can enter Chad as long as travelers over age 12 show proof of a negative coronavirus test taken no more than 72 hours prior to traveling. They must also pay $40 for a test upon arrival. Travelers staying for more than seven days must take another test at their own expense. For more information, visit the embassy website .

Chile has reopened to American travelers as long as they can show proof of a negative coronavirus test (only PCR tests are accepted) taken within 72 hours of boarding the final flight to Chile. They must also obtain a Mobility Pass prior to arrival, part of which includes uploading proof of full vaccination; these passes can take two to three weeks to obtain, so it’s best to apply early. They also need to show a completed Affidavit of Travelers electronic form and proof of health insurance. Travelers must quarantine for five days upon arrival. U.S. citizens over age 18 must present proof of vaccination to enter Colombia. Testing is only required in certain situations, such as if a traveler is only partially vaccinated. However, the U.S. Embassy in Colombia website states travelers should be prepared for further health screening upon arrival.

This Central American country, favored by Americans for its lush landscape and pristine beaches, welcomes all U.S. citizens. (Previously, only residents of select states were allowed entry.) Costa Rica no longer requires visitors to submit a negative COVID-19 test taken less than 72 hours before their visit. However, visitors are required to purchase or show proof of medical insurance to cover any possible coronavirus-related costs they may incur and complete health pass forms, according to the U.S. Embassy in Costa Rica website . As of Aug. 1, the health insurance requirements are waived for those younger than 18 and for any American traveler who can provide a vaccination card. Côte d’Ivoire

As long as American travelers come prepared with a completed Air Travel Declaration Form and proof of a negative coronavirus test taken no more than five days before travel, they can enter Côte d’Ivoire. For more information, visit the U.S. embassy website .

Americans are once again allowed to visit Croatia, with some restrictions. You must show proof of a negative coronavirus test taken no more than 72 hours (or 48 for antigen test) prior to arrival or take a test upon arrival and quarantine while awaiting results. If you’re fully vaccinated, you can provide proof of vaccination instead of a test. Or, if you can prove you have recovered from the coronavirus within the past 12 to 270 days, you won’t need to provide test results. Also, you must provide documented evidence of an accommodation paid in advance. If you can’t prove vaccination, recovery or a negative test, you must take an arrival test and quarantine for 10 days. Americans are permitted to enter Curacao as long as they show negative test results taken within 48 hours of departure. Travelers must also have insurance and complete an online immigration card as well as a Health Department passenger locator card before traveling. A test on the third day is also required. Vaccinated individuals may travel from the U.S. to Cyprus as long as they provide proof of vaccination (or recovery from coronavirus). If you are not vaccinated, you must show proof of a negative test taken no more than 72 hours prior to travel and take another test upon arrival at the airport; you’ll also have to quarantine for seven days at your own expense. Czech Republic

The Czech Republic has reopened to American travelers as long as they complete a Personal Locator Form. Travelers who are vaccinated and have received the booster can bypass the pre-travel coronavirus test. (The country considers a vaccine valid as long as it has been nine months since the final dose.) Those who haven’t received the booster or are completely unvaccinated must show proof of a negative test taken prior to travel. There are no quarantine requirements nor travel restrictions within the country. However, many public establishments require visitors to show proof of vaccination or negative tests. Democratic Republic of the Congo

Travelers to this Central African country who are 11 or older must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than three days prior to departure. They will be subject to another test upon arrival in the Congo and must quarantine until they receive another negative result. Proof of health and medical evacuation insurance is also required in addition to completion of a form. There are also exit requirements in place: Travelers must present negative test results taken no more than three days before leaving the country. Vaccinated Americans can enter this Scandinavian country without testing or quarantine. Unvaccinated visitors must submit to testing upon arrival and quarantine for 10 days (or they can end quarantine early with a negative test on day six). Americans traveling to Djibouti must test negative for coronavirus no more than 72 hours before boarding the plane and no more than 120 hours before arriving in Djibouti. Passengers will be subject to health screenings and a rapid COVID-19 saliva test for $30 upon arrival. Only travelers who test negative will be allowed to enter the country; those who test positive will either depart on the next flight or enter isolation and treatment. Americans are allowed to visit Dominica if they answer a health questionnaire and present proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken no more than 72 hours prior to arrival. Unvaccinated travelers will be antigen tested upon arrival and required to quarantine at a government facility or government-approved hotel for at least five days. They’ll be subject to a test on day five; if negative, travelers will be considered medically cleared and free to explore. Dominican Republic

American travelers are permitted to visit this island nation, whose popular tourism spots include Punta Cana , Puerto Plata and Santo Domingo , with few restrictions. While the country doesn't require a negative coronavirus test before visiting, travelers will be chosen at random for coronavirus tests upon arrival at the port of entry. If you have proof of a negative coronavirus test or proof of vaccination, you will be exempt from these random tests. Health screening procedures, such as temperature checks, are also in place. Travelers must also state they haven’t experienced any COVID-related symptoms in the last 72 hours and provide contact details for the next 30 days in the form of a Traveler’s Health Affidavit. American travelers visiting Ecuador must present proof of vaccination or proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test or rapid antigen taken within three days of their arrival. A health declaration is also required. Passengers who show COVID-19 symptoms will be evaluated by health officials (regardless of a negative test) and may be subject to isolation and further testing. Alternatively, fully vaccinated travelers can show proof of vaccination instead of negative test results. If you’re looking to visit the Galápagos Islands, you’ll need proof of a negative PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before arrival (if you are 16 or older), and you’ll need to complete a transit control card. If you're visiting Egypt from America, you'll need to present physical proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken ideally no more than 72 hours before arrival. Travelers who arrive without proof of a negative test must be tested upon arrival and quarantine until they receive a negative test result. There is no required quarantine for American travelers. El Salvador

This Central American country no longer requires U.S. citizens (2 and older) to take a negative COVID-19 test to enter. Visitors will also be subject to various medical screenings at their port of entry before beginning their travels through El Salvador. Additionally, visitors will be required to complete a 14-day self-quarantine before setting out to explore Tunisia (or they can test out of quarantine on the seventh day). Each emirate has differing quarantine requirements for incoming travelers. There are advanced medical screening measures in place at the ports of entry. Additionally, there are varying measures and interstate travel restrictions in place depending which emirate you're traveling to. Americans can visit this U.S. territory in the Caribbean after showing proof of a negative COVID-19 test result taken within five days of travel and providing their travel authorization certificate from the USVI Travel Screening Portal. Americans can visit this country in Central Asia after providing proof of a negative coronavirus test taken no more than 72 hours prior to traveling. Zambia now allows all international travelers to enter the country. Those visiting from America need to show a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 72 hours of travel. Americans can travel to Zimbabwe after taking a coronavirus test and receiving a negative result issued no more than 48 hours prior to arrival. There is no required quarantine for travelers (in most cases) but there is a daily curfew from 6:30 p.m. until 6 a.m. There are also restrictions in public spaces like restaurants. Domestically

Keep in mind, you don't need to leave the country to have a memorable vacation. While international destinations are tempting, there are plenty of enjoyable places to safely vacation around the U.S. Trade the Maldives for Maui, Hawaii , the Swiss Alps for Vail, Colorado , or an African safari for an adrenaline-filled Jeep ride through the desert of Sedona, Arizona . You can even find many lesser-known destinations around the country – such as St. Augustine, Florida ; Leavenworth, Washington; or Holland, Michigan – that feel more like Europe than America.

Choosing a domestic vacation has its perks, especially during a pandemic. You won't have to worry about visa restrictions, issues with entry or last-minute country closures ruining your trip. (Though note some states are imposing their own travel restrictions and quarantine rules.) Not to mention, you might find a little slice of paradise close to home that you can continue to visit.

Why You Should (And Shouldn’t) Check in Online for Flights

A lot of travelers wonder if they should check in online for their flights. Some people see no point in doing so if they are going to be checking luggage in at the airport since that will require them to check in anyway.

But could there be some benefit to checking in online in virtually all cases?

In this article, I’ll take a detailed look at whether or not you should check in online and point out when it might be beneficial or detrimental to your travel goals.

Check-in overview

Generally, in the US, check-in opens for your flight 24 hours prior to departure.

Check in will end close to departure but this exact time may depend on the airline and route. Generally, these are the cut off times:

• Domestic: 30 to 60 min before departure
• International: 1 to 1.5 hours before departure

If you missed the window for checking in, you may have to inquire with an agent about boarding a different flight.

Be aware that once you receive your boarding pass after you check in the information on the boarding pass is subject to change. For example, your gate could change and your flight number/time could also be changed.

Also, sometimes the boarding pass you get from online check-in does not include all of the details such as your terminal or gate information.

So don’t always treat your boarding pass received 24 hours prior to departure as the final details for your flight.

Why you should check-in online

Fix boarding pass issues.

One reason why you want to check in online is that you may have issues with your boarding pass that need to be fixed.

By checking in online, you might be able to detect these issues as far as 24 hours before departure which will give you plenty of time to sort them out via phone before arriving at the airport.

For example, you might notice that the seat you selected has not been provided to you or your name might be misspelled.

Another common issue that you might see is that your boarding pass does not have TSA Pre-Check or perhaps you are not in the right boarding group .

Sometimes you may not be able to check in online at all.

This could mean that you’re going to receive an SSSS screening but it could also mean that you have some other type of issue related to your boarding pass (I’ll cover those later in the article).

Even if you can’t work out what’s going on over the phone at least you’ll be on notice that you should arrive extra early to resolve issues with your ticket.

Running late with checked bags

There is always a cut off time for checking your bags.

The exact cut off time will depend on the airline, the route, and possibly the aircraft. But these are generally the latest times you should check bags for your flight:

• Domestic: 30 to 45 min before departure
• International: 60 min+ before departure

If you happen to miss the cut off time for checking your bag but you have already checked in online then you still might be able to check your bag at the gate. This is taking the gate-checked bag travel hack to the next level.

This is not something I would count on working every time but it certainly is worth giving a shot if you ever find yourself in such a predicament.

Get better seating

Checking in online can ensure that you have better seating.

If you wait too long to check in it’s possible that the airline could move your selected seat to accommodate other passengers!

Also, some airlines have boarding policies that benefit those who check in early.

For example, if you’re flying Southwest then you definitely want to check in at least 24 hours prior to your departure.

That’s because the Southwest boarding process does not provide for assigned seating. Instead, you are issued a boarding pass based on your time of check-in.

The sooner you check in, the higher your boarding position, and the easier it is for you to find optimal seating. Of course, if you don’t want to hassle with the 24 hour check in you can always purchase EarlyBird which will automatically check you in 36 hours prior to departure.

Other airlines may allow you to select your seat at check-in although sometimes check-in time is actually too late for selecting or changing your seat. It all depends on the airline.

Avoid involuntary bumps

Those who check in last are more likely to receive an involuntary bump or IDB.

Basically, in some cases, airlines sell too many tickets for a given flight.

In those situations they are forced to assign passengers to other flights. They will usually ask for volunteers but sometimes nobody will volunteer and the airline will be forced to involuntarily bump some passengers.

It’s said that if you are among the the last to check in or if you simply have not checked in yet your name will be more likely to be selected for this type of bump.

The idea is that the airline will use several different factors to select those who get denied boarding and check in time is one of those factors that gets a lot of weight.

I don’t know if this is true for all or most airlines but it certainly would make sense if this is the way that it usually worked. For that reason, I would suggest checking in as soon as you can so that your name is low on the bump list.

Dealing with upgrades

Sometimes in order to view the waiting list for upgrades or to get on the list you may have to check in online. This will allow you to keep tabs on your upgrade chances via the airline’s mobile app. Checking in early may also benefit you for the upgrade standby list.

Also, whenever you check in you may be given the opportunity to pay for extra upgrades like more legroom, priority boarding, etc.

By checking in online 24 hours prior to departure, you give yourself sufficient time to research if these opportunities are worth it rather than making it a more impulsive decision at the airport.

Checking in online can save you time in a few ways.

If you don’t have to check any baggage you can go straight to security and if you have something like TSA Pre-Check or CLEAR that means getting through in possibly just a couple of minutes.

If you do have checked baggage sometimes you may find a line or zone for those already checked in online. These lines might be shorter and allow you to simply print out a luggage tag and drop off your bag in a hurry.

You could get charged for check-in

Ultra low-cost carriers like Spirit Airlines and Frontier have no shame in charging you for checking in at the airport. For example, if you print out a boarding pass at the airport with Spirit Airlines it will cost $10 to print each boarding pass.

For these airlines, it’s usually better to not only check in online but also to pay for your baggage whenever you purchase your ticket so that you can save money.

You have connecting international flights

If you are flying internationally and dealing with connections it helps to have all the documentation available to you.

So let’s say you were having a three hour layover in a foreign country with one or two connecting flights.

It’s a big help if you can produce your boarding pass that you may have already received from checking in for those onward flights. This is especially true if there would otherwise be some type of visa requirement for you to be in one of the countries.

It also can be more helpful to have a paper version of these boarding passes since some officials seem to demand paper copies when processing passengers.

You have a very early or late flight

If you have a super early flight checking in online means that you might be able to arrive at the airport a little bit later. Otherwise, you would have to arrive before the cut off to check in which sometimes can be ridiculously early.

If you’re cutting things close and you have one of the latest flights heading out of the airport and you don’t check in online, it’s possible that the airline will think that all flying passengers have already gone through the check in process and they might shut things down, which in turn could get TSA to shut things down.

But if you had checked in online you may have been able to squeeze through security since you would still be unaccounted for as a checked-in passenger.

When you should not check-in online

The situations where checking in online for your flight is detrimental are probably very rare.

However, here are some situations where you either want to reconsider checking it online or where you possibly will not be allowed to.

You need to make last minute changes to your flight

If you are someone who will need to make a last minute change to your flight then it’s a good idea to think about not checking in online until you know the consequences of doing so.

This will differ with each airline but some airlines (especially those of the ultra low-cost carrier variety) have a no change/cancellation policy after you check in. In those cases, checking in could drastically reduce options available to you as a passenger.

You need to make changes to your seats (after seat selection is closed)

If you anticipate on making changes to your boarding pass such as changing your seat after seat selection is closed, you may want to just wait to check in until you arrive at the airport.

The reason is that if you have already checked in online the agent will likely have to cancel your boarding pass and re-issue you another one.

An experienced agent should be able to do something like this without any problems.

However, sometimes you may run into someone who is fresh on the job and these type of things can confuse them, forcing you to wait extra time.

Or, in a worst case situation, you could run into an agent who simply does not want to do extra work for you.

I’ve booked flights where certain seats are only available at check-in and they required an agent to switch my seat last minute in order to get them.

You could imagine a scenario where by checking in online you are adding one extra hurdle for the agent to take care of. If they are feeling particularly uninspired at their job that day they may simply deny your request, especially if they are getting swamped.

When online check-in is not available

In some cases you may not be able to check in online, at least not for all passengers.

For example, if you are flying with or as an unaccompanied minor it’s possible that you will be forced to check in in person.

Other people who may not be able to check in online include:

• Guests traveling with pets 
• Guests traveling on a group reservation
• Guests traveling with a lap infant
• Guests traveling with Military ID instead of a passport
• Non-U.S. citizens departing from international locations
• Guests who purchased an extra seat or special items

Also, for whatever reason sometimes online check-in is not available for international flights. As mentioned above, this could be because you’re getting a secondary search but that’s not always the case — sometimes it just seems random.

Other times, it might mean you have an issue with your passport or visa in which case you definitely want to start working on fixing that ASAP.

If you were put on some type of government watch list then it’s likely you will not be able to check in online. (If you are subjected to many SSSS searches, you could consider applying for a redress number .)

If you get that redress number that might help allow you to check in online in the future although there are no guarantees.

If you only want a paper boarding pass

Some people don’t like to rely on a mobile boarding pass and so they just bypass the entire online check-in process.

Instead, they like to print out a hard copy of the boarding pass either at a kiosk or at a check-in desk.

I would encourage these people to still check in online because there is nothing wrong with having both a mobile boarding pass and a paper boarding pass. Also, you can always print out your boarding pass after you have checked in.

For the most part, I believe it’s a good practice to check in online for your flights.

Among other benefits, it allows you to catch any errors on your boarding pass and to resolve those before arriving at the airport. And even if you can’t fix those issues, at least you’ll know to arrive a little bit early to get them straightened out in person.

There are some limited scenarios where checking in online may not be available or possibly even not recommended but for the most part there is no downside to checking in online.

2 of my young relatives, both aged 20 who had rarely flown anywhere without an elder relative, booked to go to spain fron uk with ryanair, ryanair charged them 55 pounds each for not checking in online which they were not aware of niether were thier elders, then and due to the delay of check in ryanair wouldn’t let them on the plane and they were made to pay extra to fly next day, the extra was 200 pounds, these 2 20 year olds were devastated and it took all thier spending money away, the elders in the family assisted with this and next day off they went after this time checking in online the night before, and also having to pay once again for seats to seat together at 12 each as they had previously done on first booking, Personally I feel ryanair robbed them TOTALLY

TSA does not require children under 18 to provide identification when traveling within the United States. Contact the airline for questions regarding specific ID requirements for travelers under 18.

Forgot Your ID?

In the event you arrive at the airport without valid identification, because it is lost or at home, you may still be allowed to fly. The TSA officer may ask you to complete an identity verification process which includes collecting information such as your name, current address, and other personal information to confirm your identity. If your identity is confirmed, you will be allowed to enter the screening checkpoint. You will be subject to additional screening, to include a patdown and screening of carry-on property.

You will not be allowed to enter the security checkpoint if your identity cannot be confirmed, you choose to not provide proper identification or you decline to cooperate with the identity verification process.

TSA recommends that you arrive at least two hours in advance of your flight time.

Names With Suffixes

TSA accepts variations on suffixes on boarding passes and ID. Suffixes are not required on boarding passes. If there is a suffix on the boarding pass, and there is not one on the ID or vice versa, that is considered an acceptable variation.

If your identity cannot be verified, you will not be allowed to enter the screening checkpoint.

Boarding the plane to head to another country alone is often an emotional experience – there’s the excitement, the anxiety, the anticipation.

It can also be totally nerve-wracking.

When Angie Orth made the bold choice to leave her job and embark on a solo yearlong journey around the world in 2011, her friends and family cautioned her about safety concerns. “Everyone was horrified,” the Florida native told USA TODAY. “The fear was all I heard.”

The then New York City-based Orth kicked off her 12-country solo trip in Fiji before making her way to New Zealand, Australia, and Southeast Asia. Then she trekked through Europe, including Greece, Spain and England, and stopped in Turkey and Egypt before ending in Kenya and South Africa.

It wasn’t always smooth traveling. At times, Orth said she survived “by the skin of my teeth.” Orth was in Egypt during the Arab Spring , got unbelievably sick in Thailand, and had a bike accident in Bali. She was also robbed of 400 euros. “I was in Greece for a half an hour and had already been pickpocketed,” she said. 

Still, to Orth, the solo journey was invaluable. “It’s a confidence that I don't think there’s any other way to get that confidence than by solo travel,” she said, referring to the problem-solving that inherently comes with navigating travel on your own. Then there’s also the compassion you gain from meeting and experiencing other cultures. 

Now more than ever, more people are deciding to forgo travel companions and embark on their trips alone. Solo vacation package searches on Google shot up by more than 200% over the past 90 days as of Feb. 2.

Increased connectivity on our phones makes it easier to feel secure and social media shows more people – especially women – traveling the world alone. 

“Women are not waiting for permission or their 401(k) to mature. If my husband doesn’t want to go, fine. Women are having more confidence,” said Orth, who is also the author of the upcoming book “Flirting with Disaster,” which chronicles her yearlong solo trip.

How to safely travel alone

Safety is always top of mind when traveling, and it’s especially important for solo travelers who have to look out for themselves.

“Isn’t it fun to meet a person in a hostel and say yes, let’s go hiking right now? That’s fun, but it’s risky,” Orth said. “It’s about balancing it out and researching ridiculously.” 

◾ Start your research by heading to the State Department website to see if there are any travel advisories for the destination you’re interested in. These advisories are based on changing conditions and also inform you about the specific region you’re visiting.

For the most direct updates, enroll in the agency’s Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), a free service that sends you the most up-to-date information on the destination. It can also help connect you to the nearest U.S. embassy and consulate if traveling and something happens.

◾ One thing Orth always searches for is “the destination plus scams” to see what she has to look out for when in that place. Many European cities are notorious for petty theft, like pickpocketing in popular tourist hotspots like the Trevi Fountain or public transportation.  

When doing research, it may feel like an information overload. "There is so much information now, you could read 1,000 reviews and get so many sources of conflicting information," Orth added. "It’s hard to wade through all that and find trusted sources."

◾ To help sift through everything, Orth recommends reaching out to others who have traveled to your ideal destination. She also recommended cleaning out your feed and only following travel content creators who “give you the good and the bad.”

“You don’t want the glossy, glossy, oh, it’s so magical because travel isn’t always so magical,” she said. 

◾ At your destination, you’ll also need at least a basic understanding of the language used there. “Translation plays a big role in safety, just being aware of your surroundings,” said Craig Ewer, Google Communications Manager for Search. 

Besides direct translation between 133 languages, the Google Translate app offers pronunciation help – “such a lifesaver,” according to Rose Yao, vice president of product management at Google. You can also snap a picture of a menu and have it translated in real time. 

The Google app also has a feature called Lens that allows users to search using a picture of something like a sign. “You’d be surprised at what you can Lens: menus, what is that building or what is that statue,” Yao said. You can also capture a screenshot of your social media feed and then search for it on Google to incorporate it into your travel plans.

Staying healthy on your travels

◾ To safeguard yourself and others against preventable illnesses while exploring new places, look up any recommended vaccinations for the countries you plan on visiting. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website is a good starting point, with in-depth travel health notices and recommended vaccines and medicines posted. 

The CDC website also offers travel advice on managing nonpreventable illnesses, like preventing bug bites to reduce the risk of contracting diseases like dengue or Zika.

◾ Typically, you’d want to give yourself at least a month before departing on your trip to get everything you need from your doctor. And if you don’t know who to go to, the CDC can help you find a clinic as well. 

Orth recommends having a doctor help you put together a medical kit with some necessities and medications, such as for food poisoning. “It’s helpful to have some things on hand so you’re not scrambling on a remote island and no one knows what you’re talking about,” she said. 

◾ As you’re making the big purchases for your trip, don’t forget about travel insurance for the unexpected. Orth said she never travels without this layer of protection. Travel insurance not only helped with her medical costs from her bike collision but also replaced her camera, which was smashed in the accident. She also recommends a service called  MedJet , which offers worldwide security crisis and medical transportation assistance for its members.

◾ The Google app’s generative AI search allows you to “ask really detailed questions like you would ask a friend,” Yao said. “Ask what’s off the beaten path, what’s not crowded. What’s a great time to visit the Louvre that’s not super crowded?” 

◾ For your first trip alone, it’s OK to start small and dip your toes in the solo travel pool. “Start in an easier destination, something more familiar where you speak the language or you don't have to fly far away,” Orth said. “A lot of folks see ‘Eat, Pray, Love’ and travel content creators trekking in Borneo for it to count but it doesn’t.” 

◾ It won’t always be rainbows and butterflies, despite what you see on social media. Expect decision fatigue from having to make many micro-decisions, like if this taxi driver seems safe. “I think this probably hits women a lot harder than it hits men because we are never not thinking about our safety, and that’s if we’re going to Target in our hometown or hopping on a plane to a remote island,” Orth said. 

◾ Make an itinerary for yourself with at least one thing planned every day, so you don’t feel aimless but still have space for flexibility, said Madison Pietrowski, U.S. brand director at GetYourGuide, a marketplace for travel experiences, where each company listed is thoroughly vetted. It can be as casual as wanting to eat at a certain restaurant for dinner or more intensive like a whole-day tour. Is criminal history a disqualifier for global entry.

Global Entry is a risk-based approach to facilitate the entry of pre-approved travelers. Applicants may not qualify for Global Entry participation if they:

• Provide false or incomplete information on the application;
• Have been convicted of any criminal offense or have pending criminal charges, including outstanding warrants;
• Have been found in violation of any customs, immigration or agriculture regulations or laws in any country;
• Are subjects of an ongoing investigation by any federal, state or local law enforcement agency;
• Have been denied for the purchase of a firearm;
• Have received a criminal pardon from any country;

What do i do if the global entry processing technology states "see officer for assistance".

You must report to a CBP officer at the nearest staffed CBP passport control booth. You do not have to get back in line. The CBP officer at the passport control booth will review your documents, determine the reason for the referral and either release you from there or refer you to "secondary" for additional processing.

How is the arrival of the Global Entry Mobile App going to improve travelers' experience at airports?

The Global Entry Mobile App will allow members to validate their arrival into the U.S. on their iOS or Android device prior to entering the Federal Inspection Services area which will expedite their processing time.

Do Global Entry benefits allow head-of-the-line privilege at U.S. airports without Global Entry technology?

Head-of-the-line privilege is only available at U.S. airports that have Global Entry. Head-of-the-line privilege is reserved for program members if the processing technology is unavailable, if a member gets referred to a CBP officer, and at the exit points.

As a U.S. lawful permanent resident, which document do I use with the Global Entry processing technology?

U.S. lawful permanent residents must use their I-551 permanent resident card with the Global Entry processing technology.

Must I declare food items or products when using Global Entry?

Yes. You must declare all agricultural products that you bring into the United States. Failure to declare agricultural products can result in up to $10,000 in fines and penalties .

As a Global Entry member, am I required to use the Global Entry Program when entering the United States?

No. Global Entry members can choose not to use the Global Entry processing technology and can be processed by CBP officers.

My travel companions (children, spouse, or co-travelers) are not Global Entry members; can they come through the Global Entry lane with me?

No, only Global Entry members can use the Global Entry lanes.

What do I do if I have a disability and need assistance during my interview for Global Entry?

After you have submitted your application and scheduled an interview at a Global Entry Enrollment Center, contact the Global Entry Enrollment Center where your interview is scheduled to request a reasonable modification or auxiliary aid or service to complete the Global Entry application process.  Requests for a modification, aid, or service should be made as soon as possible and prior to the date of an interview to allow sufficient time for making the appropriate arrangements at the interview location.

Partner Expedited Travel Programs

I am a u.s. citizen enrolled in global entry, what benefits do i have for expedited entry.

U.S. Citizens enrolled in Global Entry may use the Smartgate system when entering Australia and/or New Zealand without registration. U.S. Citizens may apply for the Dutch Privium program, the Korean SES program, Panama's Global Pass, Taiwan's e-Gate, Germany's EasyPASS, or the Mexican Viajero Confiable program for expedited entry into those countries. Yes, Korean citizens may apply for Global Entry. Korean citizens must first enroll in the Smart Entry Service (SES) program operated by the Korean Immigration Service.

As a Korean citizen, what is the process to become a Global Entry member?

Korean citizens submit Global Entry applications through the  Korean Government's website . After submitting the Global Entry application, Korean applicants must then create a Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) account. Applicants will log into the account and pay the $100 Global Entry application fee. Once conditionally approval status is granted, applicants will be invited to schedule a Global Entry interview through their TTP account at an enrollment center or via Enrollment on Arrival when arriving to the U.S. on an international flight complete the enrollment process.

Does the Korean SES program have a minimum age requirement?

Yes. To participate in Global Entry, Korean applicants must be at least 17 years of age.

Can U.S. citizens apply for the Korean SES program?

Yes. U.S. citizens may apply for the Korean SES program. Applications for SES may be submitted through the TTP website. Once conditionally approved in the SES program, applicants must visit an SES enrollment center (in Korea) to complete the enrollment process and pay the fee. The SES fee for U.S. citizens is $100 (this is in addition to the $100 Global Entry fee).

Where do i find my trusted traveler membership number.

Find your Trusted Traveler's membership number by logging into your Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) account. The membership number is listed toward the top of the page. The membership number, also known as your PASS ID, is also on the back of Trusted Traveler cards.

I am a current Global Entry member. How do I update my passport information?

All Global Entry members can update their passport information through their TTP account. Click on "Update Documents." If the passport update involves a name change, you must visit a Global Entry enrollment center to update your information.

How do I obtain a copy of my FBI Identity History Summary?

If you would like a copy of your Identity History Summary, you may submit a request to the FBI. The FBI offers three options for requesting your summary or proof that a summary doesn't exist.

Renewing Global Entry Membership

How do i renew my global entry membership.

You become eligible to renew your membership one year prior to program expiration. If you submit a renewal application before your membership expires, you will be able to continue to use benefits up to 24 months after your membership expiration date.

Follow these steps to renew Global Entry membership:

• Log onto the TTP website ( https://ttp.dhs.gov ).
• If you don't have a login.gov account, you will be directed to login.gov to create an account first then you will be prompted to setup your TTP account profile. On the profile page, you will need to associate the account with your PASSID (membership number). See the back of your Trusted Traveler card or your approval letter.
• From your Dashboard, select the Renew button on your Global Entry, NEXUS, SENTRI or FAST program membership section. You must declare your citizenship (if you are a US Citizen, you declare "U.S.").
• Select the program that you wish to renew. You may select to renew another program for which you are eligible. However, remember that depending on the program you choose, your benefits may change. On the next page, acknowledge the program requirements.
• Follow the guidelines provided on the Membership Renewal page.
• When you have updated all information in the application, on the Final Review page, click Confirm and Continue in each section. At the bottom of the page, click Save and Continue .
• On the Certify page, answer Yes or No to "Do you certify?"
• Select Next . The Purchase Summary page will display.
• Fees are for application processing and are non-refundable. Check the box under the total application fee to agree and proceed.
• Select Pay Now . The online payment page displays.
• After payment, you will be returned to your TTP Dashboard.

Will I need to be interviewed again when I renew my program membership?

An interview for program membership renewal may not be necessary. Once you submit your renewal application and fee, check your TTP account periodically for updates on what actions are necessary to complete the renewal process. You will receive an email when your membership status changes.

Global Entry Cards

Who receives global entry cards.

Only U.S. Citizens, U.S. Lawful Permanent Residents, and Mexican nationals are issued Global Entry cards.

How are Global Entry cards used?

CBP accepts Global Entry cards for lawful U.S. entry at land and sea ports of entry. Global Entry cards have radio frequency identification, which enables their use at SENTRI and NEXUS expedited travel lanes entering the U.S. Global Entry cards are not valid for entry into Canada via the NEXUS lanes and kiosks. Global Entry cards are not accepted at Global Entry kiosks, which require passports or U.S. lawful permanent resident cards. Global Entry card holders must follow all program rules for SENTRI and NEXUS when using the card at land and sea ports of entry.

How do I get a Global Entry card for use with SENTRI or NEXUS travel lanes?

CBP began issuing Global Entry radio frequency identification (RFID) cards on July 12, 2011, to new Global Entry members who are U.S. citizens, U.S. lawful permanent residents, and Mexican nationals (who do not already have a SENTRI card) at no additional cost.

Must I obtain a Global Entry card?

No, it is not necessary to obtain a Global Entry card to continue using Global Entry an airport. A card is only required for expedited entry at the SENTRI and NEXUS lanes coming into the United States.

When will I receive my Global Entry card?

New members will receive their Global Entry card 2-4 weeks after approval for Global Entry.

How will I receive my Global Entry card?

If you have a U.S. address, the card will be mailed there. If you do not have a U.S. address, it will be sent to your designated U.S. point of contact or to a Global Entry enrollment center that you designate.

How do I activate my Global Entry card prior to use at NEXUS/SENTRI lanes?

Activate your card within 30 days of receipt or you will be unable to use your card at the Trusted Traveler lanes. To activate your card, log into your TTP account.  After you sign in, click on the Activate Membership Card button under the Program Membership(s) section on the Homepage.

How do I replace a lost, stolen or damaged NEXUS, SENTRI or Global Entry card?

You can request a replacement card by logging into your TTP account and selecting Manage Membership. Next select Request for Global Entry Card. A $25 fee is charged for the replacement card. By requesting the replacement card, the original card will be deactivated and no longer functional.

For Global Entry Members at NEXUS/SENTRI Lanes

How do i add nexus to my existing global entry membership.

Log into your  TTP  account. From your Dashboard click on the "Add Trusted Traveler Program." Select the checkbox next to the NEXUS option. You will need to provide additional information and answer questions; (some of these questions are very similar). Once all the application information is entered/ corrected, certify your application and pay the fee. Applicants seeking to use NEXUS to enter Canada must complete an enrollment interview with the Canada Border Services Agency.

How do I register my vehicle before using the Global Entry card in SENTRI lanes?

Global Entry members who wish to drive their vehicle in the SENTRI lanes, must register their vehicle with CBP and schedule an appointment at a SENTRI enrollment center to conduct a 7-point vehicle inspection.

How do I register my vehicle before using the Global Entry card in NEXUS lanes?

There are no additional requirements for a member to use the NEXUS lanes coming into the U.S. However, Global Entry cards are not valid for entry into Canada via the NEXUS lanes and kiosks; travelers must apply separately for NEXUS.

What does it cost a Global Entry member to get the NEXUS or SENTRI benefit?

If you register your vehicle in SENTRI as part of your initial Global Entry application, there is no fee. If you wish to register your vehicle after your initial application, you must pay a $42 registration fee for a CBP vehicle inspection at a SENTRI enrollment center.

When using Global Entry at Canadian Preclearance locations you can use your passport, U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident card, or NEXUS card. You cannot use your NEXUS card with the Global Entry processing technology outside of Canadian Preclearance locations. At all other ports of entry, you will need to use your passport or U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident card.

Children and Travel Companions

Do my global entry benefits extend to my travel companion(s) (children, spouse, or co-traveler) who is/are not part of the global entry program.

Global Entry benefits are member specific and cannot be extended to others.

Are children able to enroll in Global Entry?

Yes. Children may enroll in Global Entry. Minor children 18 years or younger are required to have parental or legal guardianship permission.

Can my child/children enroll in Global Entry if I am not a member?

Minor children that do not have a parent or legal guardian enrolled in Global Entry may enroll. A parent or legal guardian must give permission and must be present at the time of the interview.

Enrollment on Arrival (EoA)

Can i participate in eoa if i haven’t received my conditional approval yet.

No.  Applicants must have already completed the application through Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP)  website. and received a Conditional Approval notification to complete the EoA.

What do I do if I already have an interview scheduled at an Enrollment Center?

You can still participate in EoA upon arriving in the United States at an EoA eligible airport if you already have an interview scheduled. Simply proceed to the EoA CBP booth upon arrival at the CBP Federal Inspection Services area.  

How do I cancel my Enrollment Center appointment if I’m able to complete an EoA interview?

Your scheduled interview will be canceled automatically after you complete the Enrollment on Arrival process. No further action is needed on your part.

Can I participate in Enrollment on Arrival if I have a domestic flight that either departs, arrives, or connects through an EoA airport?

No. Only those who are entering the U.S. Customs and Border Protection area after arriving from an international flight can participate in EoA.

Individuals traveling through domestic airports may verify whether the airport has an Enrollment Center at which they may schedule an interview or can immediately accept conditionally approved persons to complete walk-in enrollments. You may verify the locations and Enrollment Centers’ hours of operation online through the Trusted Traveler Website .

Do I need to indicate my intent to participate in Enrollment on Arrival in my TTP account?

No.  A Global Entry conditionally approved applicant may simply arrive at an EoA booth in the CBP Federal Inspection Services area at a participating airport.

Will CBP reimburse me for adjusting my travel plans to travel through an EoA airport?

No. Traveling to an EoA participating airport is a decision of convenience for the applicant.

What if I’m traveling with a mixed party- some travelers being conditionally approved and others not? How do we proceed through the U.S. Customs and Border Protection area when we arrive in the United States?

This depends on the airport at which you’re arriving. Please check with a CBP Officer at the Enrollment on Arrival Port of Entry to determine if your complete travel party can utilize the EoA lane.

What materials/documents will I need to bring to my EoA interview?

To complete the interview via EoA, you must be in possession of the following documents:

• A valid passport. If you travel using more than one passport, please bring them all to the interview so that the information can be added to your file.
• Documents providing evidence of residency. Examples are: driver's license (if the address is current), mortgage statement, rental payment statement, utility bill, etc. This is not required for minors.
• A permanent resident card (if applicable).

How soon after my EoA interview will I learn of my final decision?

The final decision notification timeline can vary.  Please monitor your email and check your TTP account for updates regarding the status of your Global Entry application.

When will EoA expand to other airports and under what criteria?

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is currently planning to expand EoA to additional airports.  Travelers can review the EoA webpage on the CBP website for EoA expansion updates.

Looking for online jobs for travelers? These remote jobs for travelers let you travel the world and get paid at the same time.

A lot of traditional jobs you can do while traveling , like being a flight attendant or pilot, can take you around the world, however you can only go to specific places at specific times. They can be great options, but a job you can take with you as you travel anywhere in the world is more ideal for travelers like us.

What you’ll need to work on the go.

For most of these jobs, you’ll need a solid, reliable internet connection. Other than that, you should be able to do any of these jobs anywhere in the world as you travel.

Online Jobs for Travelers

How do you find the perfect online job just for you? Here’s our helpful list of common remote jobs you may want to try, with information on where to find them, and how much they pay. There’s so much in this list, like working with an easy essay writing service , freelance writing, online teaching and tutoring, and working as a virtual assistance. We’ve personally done quite a few of these jobs over the years!

Tip! Even before you start traveling, grab a good travel rewards credit card and charge all of your expenses to that card. Be sure to budget and pay off the card in full every month, and then use those travel rewards towards your future trips.

Freelance Writing

Freelance writers are hired to do all kinds of writing tasks. This is one of the most flexible telecommuting travel jobs out there, but unfortunately the pay can be quite variable. Sometimes the work involves writing articles for online or print publications. Sometimes, it’s copywriting or ghost writing.

How much does Freelance Writing pay?

Writers can make anywhere from 10 cents a word to two dollars a word depending on the project and the niche. Generally, if you can find a solid niche, and establish yourself as an expert and get repeat clients, you’ll get paid more. On the flip side, a new writer with no experience, and no subject expertise may struggle to get clients and get paid.

I occasionally pick up some freelance travel writing, but I’ve found that it’s difficult (even with experience) to get higher paying travel writing jobs (as in 50 cents a word or more).

Where can I find Freelance Writing opportunities?

If you’re interested in freelance travel writing, there’s a helpful article from travel bloggers Goats on the Road post on travel publications and how much they pay here .

FlexJobs is a bit unique in that it screens employers for you. FlexJobs comes with a small, flat monthly fee, but they also vet all of the job opportunities, meaning that there’s a lot less spam to wade through.

FlexJobs is one of the top job boards for remote work, but there is a monthly fee (about $14.95 USD a month).

I’ve gotten jobs from Upwork (formerly Elance) before, but I find that there’s so much competition that buyers tend to go with the cheapest quote, so I stopped using it.

Freelance Writing Jobs is a marketplace for freelance writers. ProBlogger Job Board also has jobs listed for legitimate blogging opportunities.

You can also get jobs in the academic arena, with essay services, paper writing services and the like. Many of these services offer academic editing jobs as well. Writers and editors are needed at many academic levels, from PhD and masters level, to college level.

Technical or Medical Writer

I’ve included technical and medical writing as separate from regular freelance writing because the pay is much better, and different skills are needed.

I worked as a technical writer for over 10 years before transitioning into blogging. For the last three years of that time, I worked mostly online as a technical writer as our family traveled around the world.

Technical writers create user guides, manuals and training materials (among other things) on technical or scientific subjects.

Most technical writers have a university degree, but it’s not required, especially if have either a certificate in technical writing or if you have education or experience in technology, science, or a medical field. To do well, you’ll need the rare combination of medical, scientific, or technical knowledge, and the ability to communicate technical information clearly and concisely. A certificate or some training in technical communication, or experience as a technical writer, is almost always required.

Technical writers can work for IT companies, pharmaceutical companies, scientific journals, and really any company that requires professional technical training material or standard operating procedure documentation.

How much does it pay?

Most technical writers earn $30 to $50 an hour, but if you have a specialized skill you can earn more. As a senior technical writer, I was earning over $70 an hour when I quit around six years ago.

Where can I find opportunities?

For technical writers, the Society of Technical Communication (STC) has a job bank , but you’ll need a membership to get access. I was a member of the STC for about 10 years before I moved into blogging. You can get a student membership for $75. Local branches of the STC also post local job opportunities.

Travel Blogging

Travel blogging often sounds like the ideal online job to travel and work at the same time. In some ways, it is one of the best jobs you can travel with. There’s a lot of freedom to travel while you’re building a blog.

The main issue is that it takes most people quite a while to make a living wage from their blog. We’d estimate it takes most people about a year of hard work and blogging before you make any real income (and by real, we mean around $1,000 USD per month). We also know a lot of bloggers that have quit blogging since their expenses eventually outweighed their earnings.

Travel blogging is a lot harder than it looks on the surface. You need to have skills in writing and editing, website maintenance and design, building a brand, sales, marketing, social media, networking, photography, video, affiliate marketing, and a solid business acumen.

To get started, check out the free resources on blogger Sharon Gournay’s website, Digital Nomad Wannabe and her Facebook page. She also sells a course called Build Blog Freedom that gets great reviews, but you can learn a lot from her free content.

This is a tough one. A brand new travel blog can actually cost you money in website hosting and website domain purchase fees. On the flip side, many successful bloggers clear six figures a year. This study by Two Monkey’s Travel Group has a lot more information. Nomadic Matt also offers a Superstar Blogging course. I’ve taken the photography course through him, and really loved it.

Virtual Assistant

A Virtual Assistant (VA) is essentially an online assistant. VAs do a variety of tasks like bookkeeping, online research, email management, travel planning, scheduling, lead generation, and general research. Honestly, the tasks a VA can do are endless. Some work specifically on a skillset, like Shopify VAs and others are more generalized.

I’ve hired a VA to do research, social media scheduling, and creating graphics.

How much does a Virtual Assistant make?

Typically $12-$30 an hour depending on your skills. VAs can work on an independent freelance basis or they can be hired as a salaried employee.

Where can I find Virtual Assistant opportunities?

Capital Typing is an outsourcing company that provides virtual office services, but we’ve read reviews that pay is on the low side. There are also plenty of VA jobs listed on Upwork.

Social Media Manager

Social media managers create online content, schedule posts on social networks and engage with people online.

How much does a Social Media Manager pay?

Usually $16-$40 per hour. If you have solid references, experience, and a skillset in a specific social media platform like Instagram or Pinterest you can earn on the higher side of that range.

Where can I find Social Media Manager opportunities?

FlexJobs , Virtual Vocations , and Working Nomads are all great resources to find freelance jobs for travellers and salaried social media management positions.

Online ESL Teacher

Teaching English to students in other countries is in high demand. Many schools prefer native English speakers and choose to hire people to teach via video calls to ensure English is their mother language. Online ESL teachers need to work in the same time zone as their students.

Generally, you’ll need to be a native English speaker, and most require a bachelor’s degree. Being fluent in another language isn’t often required but it will help with dealing with students whose primary language isn’t English.

How much do Online ESL Teachers make?

Typically $14-$34 an hour.

VIPKids is probably the most popular online ESL company. Teach Away is another option.

Online Tutor

Similar to online ESL teaching opportunities, online tutors can work via Skype or other messaging apps with students in a variety of subjects. Test prep tutors or GMAT, GRE, TOEFL, SAT, and ACT tests are in high demand but often require a bachelor’s degree and high scores on the test you’re tutoring.

To be considered for the role, you’ll generally need to be a university graduate or be enrolled in a four-year degree program.

How much does being an online tutor pay?

Hourly wages can run anywhere from $15-$100 per hour.

Where can I find online tutor opportunities?

Chegg Tutors and Tutor.com hire tutors to do online tutoring sessions. Magoosh hires tutors for GMAT, GRE, TOEFL, SAT, and ACT tests.

An editor improves writing quality for writers and media companies. Editors can do everything from proofreading for minor grammar and spelling mistakes to substantive editing that essentially rearranges blocks of text and changes meaning.

How much do Editors make?

The amount fluctuates but editors salaries typically range from $17-$43 per hour. Editors in a niche like science, technical, or medical writing tend to earn more since they typically require a similar background.

Where can I find Editor opportunities?

HigherEdJobs offers positions in resume writing, technical writing, and text editing. American Journal Experts hires remote editors as well. Scribe Media also hires online editors.

Data entry is entering or updating information into a computer program. Often this takes the form of filling out spreadsheets or filling out forms. It is one of the easiest remote jobs to find online, and doesn’t require a lot of experience or education. The downside is that it doesn’t pay all that well either.

How much does Data Entry pay?

Pay varies widely based on the scope of the project, but typically you can expect to make anywhere from $11-$16 per hour doing Data Entry.

Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk) is a marketplace for work that requires human intelligence. For example, you may be asked to go through a spreadsheet and delete duplicate information. Pay can be low, but there’s a lot of work here.

You can also find opportunities through SigTrack , which offers opportunities to process voter registrations and petition signatures.

Search Evaluator

A Search Evaluator is usually given a list of different phrases and words and is asked to enter them in a search engine to determine if the results match what is expected. For example, if your search for The Big Apple gets results for Ambrosia Apples, and not New York, then there’s a problem with the search results. Other projects may involve looking at advertisements, images, and text and then writing a detailed description.

How much does a Search Evaluator make?

Search Evaluators usually make around $13-$18 per hour.

Appen Butler Hill is an international company that contracts social media evaluators to test various social networks.

Day Trading or Investing in Stocks

If you know what you’re doing, you can make an income traveling the world and investing in stocks.

I’ve dabbled in this myself, doing some day trading, and buying and selling options. The problem I found is that trading is a complex skill that needs to be developed and practiced. You’ll need to spend a fair bit of time learning (as in, thousands of hours). Even so, there are computer algorithms that are lightning fast that you can’t even begin to compete with, especially in options trading.

There’s no get quick rich easy pill here, and beware of anyone who says so.

Transcriptionist

Transcription involves listening to an audio or video recording and typing the contents up into a document.

However, as computers become more capable of transcription, these types of general transcription jobs are starting to die out, but legal and medical transcriptionists are facing less competition.

The bottom line is this: If you’re a general transcriptionist, without specialized skills, you’ll likely have trouble making a good income online.

How much does a Transcriptionist earn?

$11-$22 an hour with legal and medical transcriptionists making more.

Online Customer Service Representative

Online customer service representatives interact with customers on behalf of companies. Essentially they behave just like customer service employees do when they’re in a store except this is done online. They answer questions about products and services, respond to customer comments, and process returns.

How much do online customer service representatives make?

Anywhere from $12-$20 per hour.

Where can I find online customer service opportunities?

Online customer service jobs are some of the most common jobs to find for remote workers. Sykes.com is a virtual call center provider that hires remote workers. Working Solutions also offers a variety of jobs including telemarketing, remote agents, and tech support.

Website or App Testing

Companies pay website design teams to ensure that their sites are running smoothly. If the company loses visitors due to complicated designs, poor navigation, or bad content, then they’re losing customers. Website and app testers create objective reviews of the website to ensure everything makes sense from the customer’s point of view.

How much do website of app testers make?

Test are generally paid via PayPal per test, so pay varies a lot. Like online surveys, this may be better for occasional cash rather than a full time job.

User Testing hires remote workers to tests various websites. UserZoom conducts website usability tests for desktop and on phones. The actual user-testing panel aspect of Userzoom is actually called Intellizoom.

This option gives you the ability to cancel your flight up to a set time within your scheduled departure. Capital One Travel will issue a refund—typically 70%-90% of the ticket price—to your original payment method. 

Sometimes, you’ll also have the option to choose an airline credit worth 100% of your original ticket cost instead of the refund. Airline credit availability depends on the airline’s policies. If you choose this option, Capital One Travel will still cover any related cancellation or rebooking fees. 2

Freeze the price of a flight

Want a little extra time to decide on a flight but don’t want to stress about the price going up? For some flights offered through Capital One Travel, you can “freeze” the price for a specific period of time by paying a small fee.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a fascinating open-world fantasy role-playing game that gives players great freedom to explore and deep customization options to build their character and party. Dragon’s Dogma 2 is also incredibly restrictive. It doesn’t care much about your expectations of it based on other games you might’ve played (e.g., Elden Ring , Baldur’s Gate 3 ), nor does it follow many conventions of modern game design.

That’s kind of the appeal, though — Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a throwback. It adheres to many of the rules defined by the original Dragon’s Dogma more than a decade ago.

But as you start your journey in the kingdom of Vermund, you might find yourself wondering, Am I doing something wrong? What the hell is going on in this game? Don’t worry. It’s not just you. Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a brilliant game, but it’s not trying to cater to all players, particularly those looking for instant gratification or, like, convenience.

There’s no enemy lock-on

If you’re like me and have been playing some Elden Ring lately in anticipation of Shadow of the Erdtree ’s arrival, you may wind up consulting Dragon’s Dogma 2 ’s control options early on to figure out how to target-lock enemies in combat.

Here’s the thing: You can’t.

Sure, you can grab onto enemies to pick them up, throw them, or climb on them like you’re battling a Shadow of the Colossus boss. But you can’t, say, click in one of the analog sticks to lock on to monsters to make combat easier to wrap your head around.

Fortunately, your Pawns have pretty good aim. And the game may have something of a soft lock to make your attacks connect, but don’t expect Devil May Cry-style lock-on during combat encounters.

You have extremely limited fast travel

There’s really no easy means of fast travel in Dragon’s Dogma 2 . You can find and purchase consumable items called Ferrystones that will let you teleport to other locations. But teleporting is extremely limited — there are only a few Port Crystals in the game to teleport to.

Instead, you’ll have to rely on your own two feet to get around the game’s huge map. Alternatively, you can take oxcarts from town to town, but those are limited too, both in availability and speed. While riding in an oxcart, you can nap through much of the ride, but your journey may be interrupted by monster attacks or roving bandits, cutting your trip short.

There are also a handful of ropeways that will let you travel through the skies of this ancient land, but ropeway travel is even more perilous than going by oxcart. Expect to be harassed by harpies and griffins while riding in the game’s few available gondolas. (Heads up that you can also get around while holding on to some flying beasts. Just don’t expect them to take you anywhere you want to go.)

Dragon’s Dogma 2 game director Hideaki Itsuno told IGN in an interview earlier this year that the game’s lack of fast travel is by design. “We’ve put a lot of work into designing a game where you can stumble across someone and something will happen,” he explained, “so while it’s fine if it does have fast travel, we decided to design the map in a way that the journey [itself] could be enjoyed.”

There are no difficulty options

While many modern games strive to offer an array of difficulty options to appease a broad base of players, Dragon’s Dogma 2 offers only one. If you want to make the game slightly easier, hire some powerful Pawns. Play as a Trickster to avoid direct combat. Just don’t expect a “story mode” level of difficulty.

See those towers? You can climb them... for some cardio

Dragon’s Dogma 2 ’s map is peppered with watchtowers that will provide a great view of the landscape. Some towers even have ballistae at the top. Those powerful weapons, your Pawns will tell you, might just give you a tactical advantage.

But the towers in Dragon’s Dogma 2 don’t function like the towers in other open-world games, particularly those made by Ubisoft. They won’t open up huge portions of the in-game map. And those ballistae? They’re hard to aim, take a long time to fire, and don’t actually do much damage against the game’s giant flying monsters. The towers do serve as regular resetters of expectations, and they’re often filled with treasure chests. Just don’t expect them to serve much of a purpose beyond that.

All of this is to say that whatever expectations you bring to Dragon’s Dogma 2 , they’ll be challenged in ways big and small. Some of those upended expectations might be annoying from a quality-of-life perspective — there are no graphics options to speak of on consoles, for example — but others are implemented specifically to sell the realism of living in this medieval fantasy world. That means the best way to experience Capcom’s new RPG is to leave your assumptions from other game experiences at the door.

We asked, you answered: Parent-approved tips on traveling with kids under 2

Last month, Life Kit asked parents to share their go-to advice for traveling with babies and toddlers under age 2 as part of an episode we did on the subject. Over 200 folks responded with tips they wish they'd known before taking a big trip with a little one.

Reading through these responses, it became clear there's no magic hack that works for every kid. Some parents swore by sticking to their kid's sleep schedule on a trip, others said their vacation was smoother when they let the usual routine go. Some sang the praises of the overnight flight (so their child would sleep on the plane), others said their child has never slept more than 10 minutes on a plane no matter the timing.

A few pieces of advice held true throughout. A hungry kid is an unpleasant kid, and children are messy. So packing lots of snacks, extra diapers and a change of clothes ranked high on the list of must-dos. Almost 40 of over 200 responses suggested packing extra outfits in your carry-on for your kid and for you. (If your charge spits up, throws up, blows out or spills it will also get on you!)

So here's a non-exhaustive, impossible-to-be-comprehensive, but-hopefully-still-helpful round-up of your top advice for traveling with little kids. These responses have been edited for length and clarity.

What to pack

A stroller that can be stored in the overhead bin. It's a game changer to not have to check clunky strollers at the gate or check-in counters. —Amy P.

A change of clothes for yourself. If the baby spits up or has a blowout, there's a high likelihood that the mess will end up on you too, especially if you're holding them. Also, be sure to bring a bag to put messy clothes in. Reusable waterproof bags are great and they keep the smell in! —Jenna Yount

Extra diapers. You think you will be fine but if something comes up it's not a good situation to be in. —Jeanna Limtiaco

Overnight diapers. Fewer diaper changes in transit makes everyone happier. —Samantha Warren

Snacks. Remember, the U.S. Transportation Security Administration allows for any size baby food [and baby or toddler beverage], so pack those pouches! —Clara W.

Meds you and your kids might need in flight. That includes chewable Tylenol, Imodium, Dramamine, Zofran, ginger chews, Band-Aids and alcohol wipes. —Paige Ellis

A dark-colored bath towel. It's a blanket, it's for tidying up, it's a tablecloth, it's a sun cover, it shields bottoms from hot slides, it dries off swings. It's a multi-tasking powerhouse. —Judith Heise

Consider what may make sense to buy, rent or borrow upon arrival. You don't need to stuff everything into your suitcase. Buy some of your diapers and snacks at your destination. See if you can borrow or rent large, bulky items like car seats or travel cribs from Facebook Marketplace or your hotel or Airbnb. —Jocelyn Newman

How to get through the flight

Get to your gate an hour before boarding. It gives you time to feed your child, change their diapers, have a cup of coffee and fill your water bottle. It can also help your kid let out their energy before they have to sit on the plane. —Shelly C.

Check the airport for family friendly spaces. Use nursing spaces or pods and family restrooms to reset as needed. Check lounges for nursing and play rooms. —Sara Conger

Take an early morning flight. Those are least likely to get delayed, which is important when traveling with kids. —Carina Ochoa

Parenthood Is A Shock To The System. These Tips Can Help You With The Transition

Board with your partner separately. If you're traveling with two caregivers, have one go on the plane first with all the stuff and do the gate-checking of the stroller while the other hangs back with the kids until the last minute. It gives kids more time to run around! —Andrea De Francesca

Get a plane seat for your kid. Even though many airlines allow kids under 2 to fly for free as a lap baby, if you can afford to get them their own seat, it is worth it. It is recommended for safety to have them in a car seat, according to the Federal Aviation Administration, and the extra space for them to move around is nice. —Nicole Shelledy

Be ready for motion sickness. We were not prepared for how easily some little ones get motion sickness on an airplane. Have throw-up bags handy at all times. —Tiff Bankhurst

Prevent ear discomfort. Sucking during take off and landing may help relieve ear discomfort. My babies have flown with me from 4 weeks onward and never had a problem as long as they had a bottle or sippy cup or straw to suck on. —Shelly Ransom

Don't plan on them sleeping on the plane. It's great if they do, but if it doesn't happen, you'll be frustrated. —Colleen Mayerhoff

Don't worry too much about your kid "bothering" other people. The vast majority of people don't care, and many have been in the same situation you've been in and feel nothing but empathy for you. As for those who do care, they are not guaranteed a child-free existence in public. Kids are part of society too, and they are also allowed to take up space. —Jenna Yount

Make friends with the flight crew. They're going to help, they've got more experience than you, and they also want the flight to be pleasant. —April Graham

Save the screens for the flight. If you're using a screen, wait until you're on the plane. While you're waiting in the terminal, let them move as much as possible. Find an empty gate and play Simon Says, see who can jump in one place the longest, do animal charades. Let them go wild. —Paige Ellis

Download age-appropriate shows for your child on an iPad. (But know that if your kid is under age 2 they'll mostly just want to push the buttons.) —Chantel Dockstader

Travel hacks

Find a lodging close to a grocery store and a park. It makes it easy to buy last-minute things and burn off their energy easily at a park. —Gillian Molina

Dress your young kids in bright, matching shirts. I once traveled alone when my kids were 2, 4 and 6. We all wore matching yellow shirts so people could see we were together. —Emily Hernandez

If you want to let your little one crawl around , bring a pair of socks that you can put over their hands. Then you don't have to worry about dirty hands afterward. —Shannon Geraghty

Hire a photographer. You'll have photos with everyone in them, maybe get to see some scenic parts of the city you hadn't seen before. Dress up, wear matching outfits, be extra! They're only little once. —Tina Doyle

Helpful mindsets

It's not a vacation. It's a trip. You're just parenting in a new place. Set your expectations accordingly. —Laura Henriquez

The airport/train/bus/car is not the time to enforce the normal at-home rules. Do you want Doritos at 7 a.m. at the airport? OK. Do you want to watch 20 episodes of Blippi on the plane? No problem. There are no rules when traveling. This also makes traveling fun for kids because they get to do something different. —Meg Houston

Build in extra time to do things. It will decrease the chances of you and your child getting into stressful situations. —Cori DeLano

You're not going to get as much done as you think with a kiddo in tow. Think about things like nap schedule, traveling with a stroller, meltdowns, diaper changes. On my most "successful" trip with my kiddo, we planned one big activity a day and left the rest of the day open with some general ideas and left room for flexibility. —Whitney Winters

If you make your claim at a port of entry, if you submit your claim online, go to your appointment, go to your interview, if your claim is eligible.

• If your claim isn’t eligible

There are 4 possible results when you make a claim at a port of entry. Your next steps will depend what our Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officer decides to do after reviewing your claim.

You’ll receive a notice from the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) about a hearing. You must

• complete your medical exam, and
• go to your hearing with the IRB
• go to your scheduled interview
• complete your claim online, and
• complete your medical exam

To complete your claim online, you’ll need your

• application number
• date of birth

You’ll find these on your

• acknowledgement of claim letter or
• refugee protection claimant document

Keep any of these documents the CBSA gives you. The CBSA will tell you what to do next.

• The officer decides your claim is not eligible

After you submit your claim online, we’ll review it to make sure it’s complete. If it is, we’ll use your online account to send you:

• an  acknowledgement of claim letter (which will help you get access to the Interim Federal Health Program and other services in Canada )
• instructions to complete your medical exam
• You may not get this letter at the same time as your acknowledgement of claim letter. We’ll send it to you only once we schedule your appointment.

If your claim is incomplete, we’ll tell you what’s missing.

You’ll get an email if we update your account or upload a document for you. Make sure you check your email regularly.

Make sure you bring your original passport or any other identification documents you have to your appointment.

During your appointment, we’ll

• review your application
• collect your fingerprints and photo ( biometrics ) and any required documents (if you haven’t already provided them)
• conduct your eligibility interview to decide if your claim is eligible (if we can)
• give you documents about next steps

If your child is under 14, bring 2 passport-sized photos to the biometrics appointment. Anyone 14 and older doesn’t need to bring photos.

If we don’t make a decision about your claim during this appointment, we’ll schedule you for an interview and give you the details. It’s mandatory to go to your interview .

Changes to immigration related appointments

If you’re in Canada

Any in-person appointments that were rescheduled due to the Government of Canada labour disruption are in the process of being rescheduled. You will be notified of your new appointment as soon as possible.

If you’re outside Canada

Overseas interviews are proceeding as scheduled, unless indicated otherwise by the IRCC office abroad.

During your interview we’ll decide if your claim is eligible. If we decide it is, we’ll refer it to the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB).

After the interview, we’ll give you a refugee protection claimant document that matches our decision about your claim. If your claim is eligible, we’ll also give you a confirmation of referral letter that confirms we referred your claim to the IRB. These documents will help you

• prove you are a refugee claimant in Canada
• get access to the Interim Federal Health Program and other services in Canada

Go to your hearing

If we refer your claim to the IRB, the IRB will send you a notice to appear for a  hearing . This notice will tell you

• where to go for your hearing
• when to get there
• when it starts

After your hearing, the IRB will approve or refuse your refugee claim.  Find out what to do after you get a decision .

The IRB will  never  call you to ask for money. Read more  information about fraudulent calls demanding money .

After your hearing

After your refugee hearing, the IRB approves or rejects your refugee claim.

If the IRB accepts your claim , you get “protected person” status. This means you can stay in Canada, and you can  apply to become a permanent resident of Canada .

If the IRB rejects your claim , you’ll have to leave Canada. You may be eligible to appeal the IRB’s decision. You may also have  other options .

If your claim is not eligible

If your claim is ineligible, your claim won’t be referred to the IRB and you’ll be issued an enforceable  removal order to leave Canada.

Following its SXSW premiere earlier this month, Sarah Gibson’s documentary about Stormy Daniels, the porn star who made national headlines when it was revealed that  Donald Trump ‘s lawyer Michael Cohen paid her $130,000 to keep quiet about her alleged affair with the former president — is now available to stream on Peacock .

During the movie’s SXSW premiere on March 8, Judd Apatow, who executive produced the doc via his Apatow Productions, described the film as both a “political documentary and a character study.”

“A lot of footage was being shot as everything was happening with Trump during his presidency,” Apatow said while introducing the film at Austin’s Stateside Theater. “You get a fly-on-the-wall view of what it was like for her as the story exploded, and the effect it had on her life.”

In his review , Variety chief film critic Owen Gleiberman writes that the movie “replays the scandal with a kind of breathless, furrowed-brow, tabloid-meets-serious-news propulsive documentary ‘excitement.'”

“’Stormy’ shows you what the scandal looks like from inside the sensationalist bubble of fame,” he continues, “and by the end of the film you may be a little bit ashamed of us all.”
