The Tourist season 2 is here. Emmy-nominated heartthrob Jamie Dornan returned to our screens in January as Elliott Stanley, a man we first found in an Australian hospital with no recollection of who he was, or why everyone wanted him dead. Season 2 shifted the action from Oz to the Emerald Isle as Elliott and Helen (Danielle Macdonald) made ever more troubling discoveries about Elliott’s past.

The Tourist, created by siblings Harry and Jack Williams, the Emmy-winning producers of The Missing and Fleabag, was the most watched drama of 2022 in the UK and a hit internationally, with season 2 proving just as popular domestically.

After learning some hard home truths about our amnesiac anti-hero, did Elliott manage to balance the karmic scales this season? No spoilers here of course, but we can say that season 2, saw Helen escort him to his native Ireland where they found themselves unwittingly in the middle of a bitter family feud and also hunted by brand new enemies.

Yet, as Niamh Cassidy (Joyride’s Olwen Fouéré) cautioned Helen in the series' trailer, “You don’t know him sweetheart. You don’t even know his real name.”

The second outing also welcomed Conor MacNeill (Industry), Diarmaid Murtagh (Vikings), and Francis Magee (Kin) to the cast, and delivered even bigger twists and turns than the first season of this compelling crime drama series. Read our guide below for how to watch The Tourist season 2 online and from anywhere in the world.

In six-part TV series The Tourist, Jamie Dornan joins a coterie of famous foreign actors who have been plonked in the thick of arid Australian land and left to fry in the sun for our dramatic amusement.

The Tourist review – Jamie Dornan is intense in explosively entertaining outback thriller

An Irishman wakes up in Australia with amnesia in this pulse-pounding series packed with humour and philosophical questions

F anging it down an outback road when he is rammed by a truck driver from hell, Jamie Dornan experiences a terrible accident that gives him amnesia – making him forget about all that bondage paraphernalia from Fifty Shades of Grey .

In the explosively entertaining six-part series The Tourist, created and written by Harry and Jack Williams, the Irish actor and former Hugo Boss and Calvin Klein studmuffin plays a louche loner who can’t remember who is he, what he is doing in Australia or why he appears to have “kill me” stamped figuratively speaking across his forehead.

Dornan joins a coterie of famous foreign actors who have been plonked in the thick of arid, unforgiving Australian land and left to fry in the sun for our dramatic amusement. See also: Gary Bond in Wake in Fright , who drank a lot of beer and went mad; Dennis Hopper in Mad Dog Morgan , who drank a lot of moonshine and went mad; Johnathon Schaech in Welcome to Woop Woop , who spent a lot of time with the locals and went mad; and soon to be Zac Efron in Gold, who, the trailer suggests, finds gold in them thar desert and then goes mad.

Come to think of it, Dornan’s character in The Tourist – billed as “The Man” – is pretty sane compared with these rather rabid fellows. He’s like Guy Pearce in Memento in that he’s determined but displaced (in this instance geographically as well as mentally) and constantly banging against the walls of his own mind. If the whole being rammed into near-oblivion wasn’t enough, “The Man” is also a mite concerned when, after meeting the friendly and charming Luci (Shalom Brune-Franklin) at a diner, there appears to be another (rather spectacular) attempt on his life.

The show’s central mystery has something to do with a man who has been buried alive and calls “The Man” from inside a barrel, begging to be found post-haste. Director Chris Sweeney (who helmed episodes one to three, with Daniel Nettheim steering the others) shoves a camera inside a tight coffin-esque space, evoking memories of Ryan Reynolds in Buried.

A big, beefy, cowboy shirt-wearing villain emerges in Billy (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson), who whistles cheerfully but with absolute menace, his merry tune a harbinger of impending doom. In the series’ second half, Alex Dimitriades emerges as another prominent bad guy, hamming it up in super-villain style.

Jamie Dornan as ‘The Man’ with Luci (Shalom Brune-Franklin)

Certain characters aren’t who they say they are, though that does not apply to Helen Chambers – a fair dinkum what-you-see-is-what-you-get probationary constable battling with low self-esteem. She is superbly portrayed by Danielle Macdonald (who played the gossip columnist Lillian Roxon in I am Woman ), bringing loads of colour and detail to what could have been the simple sweet hick. Macdonald’s performance vividly contrasts with the rough and tough Dornan – also perfect in a high-intensity role as a man who is something of a blank slate, frightened by who he is or who he may be. There are philosophical questions about identity to ponder – if viewers pause for a breather and stop chewing their nails – including to what extent each of us are defined by our past actions.

There’s also an oddly good performance from the ever-reliable Damon Herriman, offsetting his recent menacing work by playing a detective inspector in a way that’s both funny weird and funny ha-ha, suiting the show’s quite dry approach to comedy. Many scenes are humorous in a cagey way, sans explicit signposting: at one point for instance we discover a traffic pile-up has been created by two turtles rooting in the middle of the road. Elsewhere, in the aftermath of an intense confrontation, in a shot one could imagine belonging to a Coen brothers movie, the show cuts to a framed picture on a wall bearing the following message: “LIFE IS MADE OF CHOICES. WIPE YOUR FEET OR SCRUB THE FLOOR.”

Damon Herriman as Detective Inspector Lachlan Rogers.

The Tourist is very well shot by Ben Wheeler and Geoffrey Hall (who was also the cinematographer for Chopper , Red Dog: True Blue and Eden ), with colour grading that’s a little off, a little sickly, as if the blues and greens (hard to find in arid outback) in particular have been poisoned from the inside. This is a clever way of visualising the feeling that something isn’t quite right. Sweeney and Nettheim (whose directorial work includes episodes of Halifax: Retribution , Tidelands and Line of Duty) establish a cracker pace that creeps, creeps, creeps up on you, then explodes with a great big thunderclap of action then creeps, creeps, creeps up again.

The “bugger me dead, it’s hot!” action-thriller, as it shall henceforth be known, is by now very familiar, but The Tourist is different: a pulse-pounder that feels fresh despite many genre elements, particularly of the neo-noir variety. The show has a great forwards and backwards momentum, contrasting cliffhanger moments with questions about the past and the ambiguities therein. It’s a vision of Australiana that’s less “ where the bloody hell are you? ” than who the bloody hell are you, and what the bloody hell will happen next? And – summarising my personal response – bloody hell, this is good.

HBO Max continues stealth drops of some of the best drama mini-series on television. Last year highlights included “The Head” and “ Station Eleven ,” and they start 2022 strongly with the fantastic “The Tourist,” a twisty tale that plays like an Aussie version of “ Fargo .” With sharp dialogue, clever plotting, and career-best work from Jamie Dornan and Danielle Macdonald , this is a great little thriller, a show that constantly keeps you guessing and entertained in equal measure.

The “ Belfast ” and “ Fifty Shades of Grey ” star plays an unnamed man (at least for a while) who is driving through the very remote Australian outback. He stops at a station to use the bathroom, banters with the guy behind the counter, and hits the road again. Looking in the rearview mirror, he sees a truck gaining on him with remarkable speed. The Man twists off the road to avoid it and the trucker follows, revealing through a POV from his cab that this is very intentional—he’s trying to kill this tourist. They race through the desert until The Man’s car crashes. He wakes up in a hospital with no memory of who he is or how he got there.

Enter a small-town officer named Helen Chambers (Macdonald), engaged to an awful man named Ethan ( Greg Larsen ) and thrust into a mystery about who this handsome Irishman is in a hospital bed. When The Man finds a note with a time and a location in his pocket, he heads to a small town called Burnt Ridge, where he meets a woman named Luci ( Shalom Brune-Franklin ) who might know about his past, ends up crossing paths with a sociopath ( Ólafur Darri Ólafsson ) who clearly wants him dead, and gets a phone call from a man who’s been buried underground. And then things get even weirder.

Created by the people behind the excellent “ The Missing ” (which aired stateside on Starz), the writing on “The Tourist” is a metronomic back and forth between reveals and how those reveals propel the narrative in a new direction. Pushing their way through all the chaos are Dornan and Macdonald, both phenomenal. Dornan finds a quirky, unsettled way to play a man who doesn’t know who he is without resorting to the cliché of the lost soul. If anything, he leans into more of a blank slate interpretation of amnesia, playing a guy who’s more open to what comes next because he can’t remember what came before. And Macdonald is charming and so incredibly likable that she becomes the heart of a show that can be cold at times.

Echoes of “ Memento ” and “Fargo” aside, “The Tourist” also has its own quirky personality. Some of those quirks get a bit extreme in late-season episodes in ways I can’t spoil, but the show is never boring. It’s a reminder that the Dornan who was so great in “ The Fall ” is still out there, and I hope it leads him to more bizarre, challenging roles like this one. There’s an argument to be made that there’s an even-better 100-minute movie in this six-episode mini-series, but that’s not the world we’re in right now. A story like this has a better chance to be told in the TV system than the mid-budget film one, and the writers don’t drag their feet or spin their wheels like so many streaming thrillers. They’re constantly moving our hero forward, keeping us uncertain about his past and even his moral center.

Some will argue that “The Tourist” gets too convoluted and I’ll admit that I enjoyed the playful uncertainty of the first half of the season more than the intensity of the second half. Although the show does get deeper in how it unpacks lies we tell ourselves and those we listen to from other people. It turns out that everyone on "The Tourist" has a secret or two, and almost all of them could use a car accident to reset the hole they've dug for themselves.

I'm not sure how intentional it is but the show never stopped reminding me of some of my favorite early Coen films—the noir danger of “ Blood Simple ,” the open roads of “ Raising Arizona ” (and a bearded hunter who seems unkillable), Macdonald’s very Marge Gunderson character—and yet these nods to greats are embedded in a breakneck plot that never slows down enough to distract from its own inspired storytelling. Take the trip.

De terugkeer van Jamie Dornan als topacteur

Nieuwe serie: the tourist.

12 juli 2022 , Alex Mazereeuw

Stream It Or Skip It: ‘The Tourist’ On Netflix, Where Jamie Dornan Plays A Man Without His Memory Trying To Outrun His Past

Where to stream:.

  • The Tourist

What would you do if you lost your memory? Not just what you had for breakfast, but all sense of who you are and who is in your life? Then you find out that someone really, really wants to see you dead? That’s the idea behind the new Netflix series, which originally ran on HBO Max back in 2022.

THE TOURIST : STREAM IT OR SKIP IT?

Opening Shot: Scenes of the arid environment in the Australian Outback. A tiny car drives down an empty road.

The Gist: A man (Jamie Dornan) stops for gas; he’s wearing a generic “AUSTRALIA” tourist t-shirt. He has no idea why the attendant at the station makes him sign out for the bathroom key. We see him come out the back door of the bathroom, next to the Dumpsters.

As he’s driving on the seemingly empty road in his tiny Mazda, a massive tractor trailer bears down on him. When the tractor trailer rams the man’s car, he realizes it’s not just an aggressive driver. After a long chase over some rough terrain, the man thinks he’s gotten away from the truck, when the truck slams into him, causing the tiny car to roll over a few times.

The man wakes up in the local hospital, surprisingly not severely injured. However, he has no idea who he is or what he was doing. He doesn’t even remember his own name. He can recall a song title when he’s in an MRI machine, but that’s about it.

A friendly local cop, Helen Chambers (Danielle Macdonald), goes to his room to take a statement. She is a bit uncomfortable with the man’s lack of memory, but ends up being reassuring to an extent. The only thing he finds in his possessions is a note to meet someone the next day at a diner in a nearby town. Helen says she’ll look into that.

We follow Helen home and see that, like most of us, she has issues with her weight, not the least of which is exacerbated by her fiancé Ethan (Greg Larsen) and their upcoming wedding.

Another thing we see is someone buried underground. Desperate to get out of whatever box he’s been put in, he tries to call someone on his phone, but no one is answering.

The man goes outside to get air, but gets lost inside the hospital, scaring him senseless. He decides to check himself out of the hospital the next day, against medical advice, because he needs to go to that diner and find out just who wanted to meet him there. Helen understands why he wants to do it, and gives him a bus ticket to get there.

At the diner, he meets a waitress named Luci (Shalom Brune-Franklin), who seems to be fascinated by his amnesia. When she spills lemonade on him, she takes him out to where there are bathrooms. Just then, there’s an explosion, right in the booth where he was sitting. He wonders aloud why in the world someone is trying to kill him.

Pictures from a disposable camera found at the crash site help him retrace his steps, as well as video from the gift shop he visited. It brings him back to the gas station and its bathroom. He doesn’t find out his name though, as he signed the key sign-out sheet as “Crocodile Dundee.” But he finds something else; a stuffed koala that he hid next to the Dumpster. Much to his surprise, it starts ringing.

What Shows Will It Remind You Of? Take the movie  Memento and cross it with the quirkiness of the first season of the  Fargo series, and you’ve got the vibe of  The Tourist.

Our Take: The Tourist , written by Harry Williams and Jack Williams ( The Missing, Fleabag ) looks like it’s a complex show with a twisty plot, but when you really take a close look, it’s pretty straightforward. Dornan’s character has no idea who he is; all he knows is that someone wants to kill him. With the help of Helen and others, he’ll try to piece things together before those that are after him, including Billy (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson), the whistling man who almost squashed him in the tractor trailer, catch up to him.

In the first episode,  The Tourist  evolves from what seems like a thriller to a more personal narrative. It’s why we get involved in Helen’s life when she’s off-duty. In a Weight Watchers-style meeting, she claims she doesn’t like her body, even though everyone is yelling about body acceptance. But it also feels like she’s more there because of her fiancé than anything else. So even though Helen knows her name, who’s in her life and what she does, she also hasn’t found herself. Plus, she seems to be made to feel guilty about just about everything.

Perhaps as she gets more involved in the life of Dornan’s character, the more she will figure out who she is. At least that’s what we hope, because Macdonald is utterly charming as Helen, who is very much in the vein of Allison Tolman’s portrayal of Molly Solverson in the aforementioned  Fargo. She’s good at her job, even if she’s a bit green, but also is a friendly and helpful sort who needs to help herself most of all.

There is definitely a bit of a sense of humor running the first episode, but the Williamses aren’t trying to make the show quippy. The humor is there when people seem to be fascinated with Dornan’s character’s amnesia, though he assures them it’s no picnic. The humor creeps in along the edges of the show, but it does just enough to ease what is a pretty serious and grim performance by Dornan.

There is one twist near the end of the episode that we won’t spoil here, but it does make us wonder if, as things get more complicated for Dornan’s character (notice we haven’t named him yet, because the character has none as yet), the plot will become more convoluted. We hope not, as it seems the straightforward manner in which this story is being told suits  The Tourist just fine.

Sex and Skin: Nothing in the first episode.

Parting Shot: When the stuffed koala starts ringing, the man digs out a burner phone and answers it. When the man who’s buried starts yelling in relief that he answered, the man says, “Uh, who’s this?”

Sleeper Star: Shalom Brune-Franklin does some compelling work as Luci, and we know that she’s much more involved in this story than most of the first episode lets on.

Most Pilot-y Line: Nothing we could find.

Our Call:  STREAM IT.  The Tourist  hooked us in with its story, plus the performances by Dornan, Macdonald and Brune-Franklin. Let’s hope the story continues to be interesting as the season goes on.

As the third episode of The Tourist begins, we hear Kostas (Alex Dimitriades) talking to another person about going hunting when he was younger. He talks to him about hunting before Kostas takes aim and kills the animal in front of him. They drag the animal out of the woods. They talk about how things change when you get older and simple things become complicated. He admits things cannot remain the same as the animal is thrown into the back of their van. He wonders what it is becoming and what the sum of all these parts might be. They take the animal back home and prepare it while the man says he has more money than he knows what to do with it. Still, he can’t capture the feeling he had when he was younger on the hunt. They sit down and prepare to enjoy dinner. Kostas says a man in his position can’t go scrabbling around in the sewers of Athens again.

episode 3 the tourist kostas

Kostas doesn’t like the taste of the meat so the other man gives him something to drink that might make it better. He adds a few drops of something to the drink and takes a sip. He gets up and walks away from the table as the other man calls his name. Kostas is told there is only one hunt that matters and gives him what he needs. That would be Elliot Stanley. Next, the man (Jamie Dornan) asks Luci (Shalom Brune-Franklin) about Elliot Stanley and how she knows him. She begins by saying they met on Suluban Beach in Bali six months ago. He bought her a drink and things moved fast because they had chemistry. They stayed in her room for about three days before moving their flight to stay together a bit longer. He never talked about what he was doing before Bali so she stopped asking. He canceled his return flight and agreed to stay there with her forever if she wanted.

Luci admits the feeling was mutual and they liked each other. One day, a man with a gun showed up at their motel room. When he tried to kill them, Elliot broke the man’s neck. Meanwhile, Helen Chambers (Danielle Macdonald) knocks on Sue’s door hoping to find the man as we hear Ethan Krum’s voicemail message. She leaves a message telling Ethan (Greg Larsen) she came here like she said and feels stupid now because she doesn’t know what she is doing. She will wait another half hour and return home if they don’t show up by then. She congratulates him on the promotion and reminds him he said he belonged in the fish section. Luci tells the man that he said he made some bad people angry before they went separate ways. They had many differences so it was never plain sailing. When Elliot told her to leave and he’d handle it, she did.

He followed her to Australia so he is a needy murderer. When she found out about the accident, she went to the hospital and left the note in his pocket. Elliot says they still have no clue how he is connected to the man buried alive or the diner explosion. He believes they should find a charger for his phone to see if it holds any of the answers they’re looking for. He admits he might not want to know if what she is saying is true. He wonders whether the memories in his head are hiding because they don’t want to be found. He’d like to believe he could leave it all behind. The man also feels like he is trying to tell himself something that he should listen to. Luci confesses he never liked to listen and she doesn’t believe people change. Instead, they turn it inside-out and repeat it over and over. When he asks whether she was curious who he was, Luci reveals she Googled him a few times but found nothing. She didn’t care at the time because she was high on that crazy little thing.

They continue talking about their relationship and the fact Elliot was a gentleman although he had his moments. She admits it was like having a reset button and getting to start from scratch. She says they didn’t work like you wouldn’t believe. Eventually, they return to their rooms and enter separate rooms. However, the man eventually crosses the hall, enters Luci’s room, and they have sex. She shows him a position and promises that he likes it. After they’ve finished, they agree to get some sleep. Next, we join Detective Inspector Lachlan Rogers (Damon Herriman) and Sergeant Rodney Lammon (Kamil Ellis) who is asleep in the vehicle. Rogers wakes him up and welcomes him to Murray Waters. Lachlan says they should go get some sleep in addition to the sleep Lammon just got. As they try to get out of the vehicle, Lammon asks whether he snored.

Rodgers doesn’t want to talk about that. They go into The Weary Head Motel which is where the man and Luci are staying. Billy (Olafur Darri Olafsson) decides to visit Ethan Krum to see what he can find out about Helen. He calls himself Detective James Logan and claims to work undercover with Helen. As they step inside, Ethan admits he is worried about Helen because she has gone off the reservation without a permit. He offers to get them a drink while complaining that Helen has ideas well above her station. When he turns around and says Helen has gone full Florence Nightingale for the man, Billy pulls out his gun and prepares to kill him. Eventually, Ethan reveals Helen gave the man money to go to Burnt Ridge so he lowers the weapon. He asks Billy to have a word with Helen on his behalf. Before Billy goes, he agrees to do it and says Helen is lucky to have Ethan. Then, we see Lena Pascal (Victoria Haralabidou) zipping her suitcase before the man wakes up.

When he looks out the window, Luci looks over, spots Sergeant Lammon, and warns the man to get down. He wonders why they are there since they can’t know about the body, but Luci expects it might have something to do with the explosion. They briefly argue about her being sarcastic and the man asking stupid questions as they get dressed. Since the motel shift has changed, Luci believes they’ll have enough time to escape before the detective knows which room they’re in. They manage to escape and drive away in their vehicle. Seconds later, Sue (Genevieve Lemon) walks outside where she finds Helen sleeping with her face pressed against the car window. She gives Helen a drink before she gets out and introduces herself as probationary constable Helen Chambers with the department over in Cooper Springs. Helen asks her about the man who isn’t around. Sue tells her he went off somewhere yesterday and she doesn’t know when he is going to return. She goes inside where she is introduced to Ralph (Danny Adcock).

series 1 episode 3 the tourist elliot

Sue tells him how deaf and rude Ralph is so she shouldn’t worry about him. Since Sue is going to head to the grocery store, she agrees to let Helen stay and wait for the man to return. Before she leaves, she tells Helen that the man went off with Luci. Sue asks if he is in trouble. Helen admits she doesn’t know although there are some dodgy people after him. She describes it as the snake game on mobile phones since the snake gets longer and has a greater chance of running into itself. Sergeant Rodney Lammon plays that game on his phone before Arlo (David Collins) walks by. Rodney shows him a picture of the man and he quickly confirms he saw him and the woman. Rodney screams for Rogers to come over and talk to Arlo since he can help them. Rogers tells Rodney to be less excited before checking his watch and realizing it is nearly 10. He excuses himself to call someone. While he is on the phone, Arlo tells Rodney he flew Luci and the man to the middle of the bush although they wouldn’t say why.

When they left, Arlo says it was very weird. He agrees to take them to the spot where he dropped them off, but he’ll have to get the keys from his brother who is likely in a pub somewhere. While Arlo goes to retrieve the keys, Rodney listens to Lachlan talk about cooking on the phone. Luci and the man stop at a gas station to get a charger for his phone, but they don’t have one. She believes Sue will have one since she is a hoarder. She admits she forget that he did this passive-aggressive thing. He complains that she knew he was a killer all this time although she says he killed in self-defense. He reminds her he knows nothing and just nodded along the previous night when she was talking. She believes they should go back and separate. They argue about that as the man wonders who she is. As they drive away, we see a missing poster for two tortoises named Hilda and Geoffrey.

Rodney says he has a friend in major crimes and they believe Lachlan calls someone at 10 every day. Rogers didn’t know he was a topic of discussion in police circles. He says you’ll make priorities in life. He used to just work every hour God gave him, but that changed when he got sick and had to go through surgery and chemo. As he spent a lot of time in hospitals, he started thinking about the most important things in his life. He didn’t want his other half with him so he decided to call her every day at 10. Even after he finished the chemo, he kept that habit. He thought about the amount of time he wasted and knew he never took time for what mattered in life. Once Rodney asks if he is better now, Rogers says he still calls. Arlo returns with the keys and offers them to sign a waiver before they go. Rogers reveals he flew Apaches for ten years so he is going to fly Arlo’s plane too. He flies them out to the waterfall sign seconds later.

Meanwhile, Luci and the man arrive at Sue’s place and Elliot heads inside alone. Helen answers the door and asks him how he is. He goes along with it before Luci shows up behind them. Luci insists she is a part of this and wants to know what is on the cellphone. Elliot believes Helen is his only friend in the whole world. While he goes for a charger, Luci asks Helen why she drove all the way down there. Helen explains there is a guy looking for him and he is outside right now. Billy walks toward the house whole shooting through the walls and windows. The others hide although Ralph hears nothing and continues watching television. Once Billy enters the house, Ralph stands up and gets blasted into the wall behind him. As Billy looks around, the man tries to get Helen to run over to where he is so they can escape through the door nearby. Instead, she stands up, points her gun at him, and identifies herself as a police officer.

He walks toward her as she orders him to put his weapon down. Billy laughs at the idea of Helen shooting him. She fires the gun but doesn’t come close to hitting Billy so he tries to shoot her. The man quickly knocks her to the ground to save her. Billy slowly walks around the table while telling Elliot he is a cockroach. As Billy gets closer, Elliot asks what he has done. Billy isn’t going to tell him. Before he can shoot them, Luci stabs him in the back with a pair of scissors. Elliot and Luci escape from the house. Helen checks on Ralph, but he is already long gone. Billy goes outside and chases Elliot and Luci in his vehicle. He follows them to another building and goes inside to kill them. Elliot hits with him a crowbar and Luci quickly grabs the shotgun. Billy stumbles outside and sits on the edge of the well. Elliot tells Luci to lower the weapon and wait before Billy leans back and falls into the well. Back at Sue’s place, another female police office wants Helen to get checked by a doctor. She tells Helen she’ll get Constable Sweeney (Simon Gilgora) to drive her there.

Before Helen goes, she takes a few minutes to comfort Sue. Lammon and Rogers find the dead body as Arlo says he didn’t see this because he was playing Dawn of the Vikings in his copter. Arlo says the man mentioned something about calling the police when they got back in the helicopter but quickly changed his mind. Lachlan calls the station to tell them to put everyone and everything into finding the man with amnesia because he might be a killer. He learns about the shootout at Burnt Ridge. Elliot sits down and complains that this didn’t have to happen and Ralph shouldn’t have died. Although Luci says it isn’t his fault, Elliot isn’t sure about that. She reminds him that the phone should be charged now and she isn’t coming because they’ve been down this road before. She let herself forget that last night and calls it stupid. She recommends using this as a fresh start while saying what he does now is what is going to matter.

He laughs and asks whether she got that from a fortune cookie. Luci responds she got it from her father just before he died from colon cancer. He apologizes, but she says it is okay because she thinks her dad got it from a fortune cookie. Ethan rushes to the clinic to check on Helen who promises she is fine. He is distraught and can’t believe that she almost died. He admits he doesn’t care and is only glad that she is alive. When he tells her he loves her, she tells him the same. Ethan wants Helen to come home right away, but she has a few things to clear up first. She follows him outside as he tries to convince her to leave. She tells him no because she isn’t coming. She spent a lot of time saying she wasn’t this or that and now she is worried she could be wrong. Helen wonders if she could be the only person capable of helping him. Ethan reminds her they have dance practice with Diego (Willian Rodrigues da Silva) at 4. She promises she’ll only need an hour max to ask a few questions.

Ethan warns her that she is going to lose him and that nobody else will want her. When she says that was really mean, he tells her to stop whimpering. He reminds her of the dance practice again and tells her not to come home at all if she misses it. Luci reveals she is going to go back, pack her belongings, and get out of there. She believes she has told him everything she knows. Elliot apologizes for everything and dragging her into it. Luci admits he was always terrible with goodbyes. They jokingly curse each other before going separate ways. Billy begins climbing his way out of the well so we know he isn’t dead. Once he props himself against the well, he gets a call from Kostas who wants an update. Billy says he was close until they got the drop on him. Kostas is worried Billy is getting overzealous again before learning they’re in Burnt Ridge. Kostas decides he is going to come out there and meet Billy.

Helen returns to Sue’s place. She talks to the other female officer shortly and agrees to watch the crime scene while he deals with a kid who ran out of petrol. She chugs an entire glass of water loudly before leaving. She checks the phone and finds the screen scrambled. As she steps outside, Elliot shows up and tells her the guy in the hat is gone. She gives him the phone back and explains it took a real beating. She thanks him for saving her life before mentioning that the bloke called him Elliot. The man introduces himself as Elliot Stanley. On the radio, Helen hears the dispatcher describe Elliot and confirm they want him arrested. Elliot insists that can’t be him while trying to get her to let him leave, but Helen wants to take him in. He doesn’t think he killed anyone. Helen believes the bigwigs can clear everything up if he goes down to the station. He pretends he is going to let her take him in. He quickly grabs her gun and takes her car.

When he finds it has a stick, he forces her to get into the vehicle and drive it for him. Once they get into the vehicle, Helen says she needs to be home by four. She warns him that he won’t be able to run forever since his face will be on all the newspapers in the country. Still, Elliot says he can run toward. As the car drives away from Sue’s property, Ethan tells Diego that she will be here. Diego says they can practice while they wait for her and they do. While Helen drives, Elliot messes with the phone and believes he can see a number on it. He taps it and throws the phone in the back seat as it begins calling someone. Luci walks toward her trailer. Billy waits inside with a baseball bat. Billy’s phone begins ringing so Luci realizes he is hiding in her home. She grabs a knife before we see Billy’s phone which says Marko is calling him. Billy asks about Elliot not remembering anything and whether it is true. She says it is.

Billy says lucky him while Luci ponders how Billy is still alive. He says he was going to ask the same thing while calling her Victoria. He swings the baseball bat at her as the episode ends.

The Tourist Review

It is easy to want and expect more from The Tourist since it has an outstanding cast and backing from some of the most successful production companies. Furthermore, HBO was once known for airing unmissable television. The cast is undoubtedly capable of delivering a hit series. The unique and beautiful scenery of the Australian outback was enough to help establish a creepy, strange mood.

Unfortunately, the show is beginning to deteriorate as it becomes obvious that it should’ve never been six episodes. The acting is respectable although the dialogue is cheesy and unrealistic at times. I really despise feeling overwhelmed with filler and any progress being quickly rewound by one simple twist. In other words, the episode placed significant emphasis on Billy’s hunt for the man. After a few action scenes, Billy was dead and that felt like a good way to progress the story, but he wasn’t.

When he climbed out of the well, it made many of the prior scenes feel pointless. While I am interested in seeing what happens, the fates of the characters concern me very little. Besides one scene, the humor doesn’t hit home for me although it might for others. It also doesn’t help that this is quickly transforming into a soap opera centered on a possible love triangle.

I just wish this was taken more seriously with authentic portrayals of Australians and humans in general. There is still time to make this a worthwhile series. It could be one of those shows that you have to watch every episode to fully enjoy the complex story. The episode scores a 5.5 out of 10. Recaps of The Tourist will be available on Reel Mockery here .

This show sucks and I don’t plan on watching it after this episode. The writing is terrible and I don’t know how or why someone even produced it. The acting is awful.

At least you’re being honest! I was hoping for a lot more I’ll say that, but it felt like a big disappointment in the end. After the first episode, the quality just kept sliding further and further downhill. Thanks for being honest lol.

UK and US lack regulation to protect space tourists from cosmic ray dangers

Damage to dna, mutations, uncontrolled cell division and malignancy. is space tourism worth the risk.

International regulations governing space flight lack rules to protect space tourism passengers from the ill-effects of cosmic radiation, according to researchers.

Over the last decade, entrepreneurial billionaires such as Jeff Bezos and Richard Branson have launched commercial space flights targeting tourists that are prepared to part with huge sums of money for a few minutes of low orbit travel.

However, scientists point to the the dangers of sudden changes in space weather — the radiation present in space, such as solar wind of heavy ions and atomic nuclei. These changes include ground level enhancement (GLE), when the charged particles from the Sun have enough energy measurable at the Earth's surface. They also include solar particle events (SPEs) when particles emitted by Sun — mostly protons — are accelerated by the Sun's atmosphere or space by a coronal mass ejection shock.

Either can have “significant health implications for crew and passengers,” the research published by journal Space Policy says.

“Exposure to elevated levels of ionising radiation, such as those possible during GLE or SPE events, has been noted by the UK Health Protection Agency, to potentially ‘cause damage to DNA, lead to mutations, uncontrolled cell division and lead to malignancy’,” the paper from the University of Surrey says.

“The space tourism industry is currently not fully aware of the radiation risks and is instead relying on incomplete ‘informed’ consent basis for non-crew space flight participants. Further, the current regulation for the industry places the risk burden firmly on the space tourist,” adds the research paper led by Chris Rees, postgraduate research student.

The study reckons that existing regulation applies to space flight crews rather than paying passengers. “For the potential space tourist, regulation is still catching up with this new industry. Further input into potential future regulation will be required going forward, noting that current fit-for-purpose legislation for radiation protection and associated risk assessment for space tourism does not exist,” the paper says.

On both sides of the Atlantic a patchwork of laws fails to provide protection for space tourists, the researchers argue.

For example, UK Air Navigation Order (ANO) rules for cosmic radiation impose limits on air crew exposure over a year. “The ANO forms the basis of regulation in the UK for very high altitude flights and could potentially be applied to future space tourism,” the paper points out.

However, the ANO does not set out requirements for real-time radiation monitoring on commercial aircraft or spacecraft.

Space tourism is expected to take off. Research found the market worth $848 million in 2023 and could grow to $27.9 billion by 2032.

Virgin Galactic took its first paying passengers in June last year , taking off from Spaceport America in New Mexico.

In May 2021, Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin space tourism venture set its price for just such an experience at $1.4m (£1m) or best offer. It made its first flight in July that year. ®
