The Detroit Woodward Dream Cruise is the mothership of all car events. It's a celebration of Woodward Ave and car enthusiasm in the heart of the Motor City. I mean seriously, this incredible car cruise draws thousands of classic cars, muscle cars, trucks (and lots of crazy stuff ) to thunder down Woodward Avenue between Pontiac and Ferndale.

Chris and I can't wait to go this August !

AND...more than 1.5 million car enthusiasts from all over the world are revved up to see some spectacular (and crazy) vehicles!

See the World's Biggest Cruise!

When is the 2023 Woodward Dream Cruise?

August 19, 2023!

BUT ... several communities have fun events and classic car shows on August 18, 2023. See the event schedule below!

Woodward Dream Cruise Frequently Asked Questions

What day is the Woodward Dream Cruise 2023? August 19, 2023

Is the Woodward Dream Cruise free? Yes, the Dream Cruise is free to attend!

How long does the Woodward Dream Cruise last? The cruise is just one day!

  • Anyone not driving a classic/muscle car are asked to stay out of the two right lanes nearest to the curb.

What time is the Woodward Dream Cruise?  9 am to 9 pm.  BUT many people with show cars in the static car shows begin to leave parked shows (as they want to cruise) around 3:30 pm so I recommend hitting up the shows in the morning.

Are Their Bathrooms?   In the more populated areas, especially in Royal Oak, there are porta johns along Woodward Avenue.

Is it Safe To Attend?   As with any large city, don't leave your items unattended. Make sure your bags/purses are zipped and closed. There is a very large police presence at the show and we felt comfortable.  We recommend going as it is a great family event!

Is This Your First Time at the Woodward Dream Cruise?

If it’s your first time to the show , we recommend finding a spot somewhere between Royal Oak and Birmingham as this stretch gets the most traffic and excitement.

We recommend arriving early so you can find parking off Woodward Avenue before the side streets and lots are full.

We recommend bringing:

  • Ear plugs if you are noise sensitive (especially for young children)
  • Folding chairs with umbrellas
  • Water/non-alcoholic drinks
  • TP (in case the porta johns are out)

History of the Woodward Dream Cruise

Woodward Dream Cruise was dreamed up as a small fundraiser to raise money for a soccer field in Ferndale, Michigan. Then, in August 1995, a group of people wished to relive the fun of the 50's and 60's, when music and Motor City steel roared down Woodward Avenue.  Blowing away expectations, the event drew 250,000 people!

Now, the Woodward Dream Cruise is the World’s Largest One-Day Automotive Event!

The Cruise brings about 1.5 million people and 40,000 classic cars to the area each summer.

People travel from all over the world to attend and be in the show.  It's an incredible experience!

My friend Marcy highly recommends eating at Sylvan Table which we will try this year. It is a farm-to-table restaurant. The restaurant is in a few hundred year old barn they moved from the east coast and built a farm around it. Cool, huh!

  • Other restaurant ideas that come highly recommended from locals include the Latin restaurant Freya and The Apparatus Room.

Are There Bathrooms at the Woodward Dream Cruise?

There are lots of porta johns along Woodward Ave in the more populated areas. Memorial Park in Royal Oak has a large bank of porta johns for the classic car show.

Are There Food Trucks or Places to Eat at Woodward Dream Cruise?

Motown Bistro and food trucks lining Woodward Ave in Detroit

Absolutely! There are food trucks and vendors lining Woodward avenue in the more populated areas, especially Royal Oak and Ferndale. There are also lots of great restaurants along Woodward Avenue.

We enjoy eating at Brown Iron Brewhouse in Royal Oak .

  • Chris was eyeing the Brown Iron Burger with Wagyu Beef, applewood smoked bacon, cheddar cheese and a yummy caramelized onion spread but got the Slow Smoke BBQ Pork sandwich with yummy pickles!
  • I got the Cali salmon BLT with avocado crema...be sure to order extra crema, it's yummy!

MotorCity Casino Hotel Debuts Food Truck at Woodward Dream Cruise

dream cruise food trucks

Detroit’s MotorCity Casino Hotel will introduce a food truck, featuring offerings such as lobster mac and cheese and shrimp tacos, at the Woodward Dream Cruise on Saturday.

“Our food truck customers will enjoy savory street fare, with some unexpected culinary twists,” says Randy Villareal, vice president of non-gaming operations at MotorCity Casino Hotel. “We were thrilled to, once again, collaborate with Chip Foose on this project since he was instrumental in the overall design of MotorCity Casino Hotel.”

Foose, the original designer of the casino and the star of the TV show,  Overhaulin’ , designed the food truck’s retro aesthetic. The food truck features a modern kitchen, a tablet ordering system, Wi-Fi, and a high-tech sound system. Oak Park-based fabrication shop Detroit Custom Coach brought the design to life.

Dream Cruise Eve: Woodward Avenue comes alive

dream cruise food trucks

Pontiac — Farms have roosters, the Dream Cruise has V-8s.

WAAAUUGGGHHH! A sinister black Pontiac GTO lit up the asphalt at the Woodward and Long Lake stoplight as cruisers woke up with the sun for Dream Cruise Friday. From Pontiac to Bloomfield Hills, cruisers mixed with commuter traffic as clubs set up tents, Corvette celebrated its 70th anniversary at M1 Concourse, and diehards claimed their desired parking spots.

Tom Paletti, 70, of Macomb Township arrived at Woodward and Square Lake at 6 a.m. in his 421-cubic inch, V8-powered 1966 Pontiac Ventura monster to secure his spot in front of Kerby’s Koney Island. He sat in a lawn chair watching the passing parade with his buddy Terry King, 72, of Chesterfield Township and his bright yellow 1973 Camaro Z28.

More: Here's your guide to the 2023 Woodward Dream Cruise

“We used to get up at 4 a.m. to get a spot at the Dodge display at 13 and Woodward, but then Beaumont bought that property and the cops won’t let you park there anymore,” said Paletti, sitting in his lawn chair watching the passing parade of cars. “Kerby’s doesn’t mind. We hang out here all week — we like talking with car people.”

At the corner of Woodward and Whitemore in downtown Pontiac, a lone, bright orange 1955 Chevy 210 sat in the lush lawn like a four-wheel safety cone.

Behind the wheel (and the 350-cube V-8) sat Bruce Larkin, 63. “I took the day off, had breakfast, now I’m just hanging out before I put up my tents,” said the Waterford Township resident and member of the North Oakland Bowtie Club that sets up at this corner each year.

“The Pit Stop food truck over there will open up from 5-8 p.m. for dinner and we’ll get about 20 cars today,” he said. “On Saturday this whole lot will be packed with probably 100 cars.”

Further south in Pontiac, M1 Concourse was alive with activity as the car club’s annual Woodward Dream Show celebrates the 70 th birthday of Corvette this year. The parking lot next to the property’s event center was full of Corvettes staging for a midday photo shoot.

“We have a Corvette from every year that Corvette has been made, from 1953 on,” said M1 CEO Tim McGrane. “We even have a 1983 Corvette — one of the rarest Corvettes in existence.”

That’s because 1983 was the only year in its history that Corvette didn’t go into production. Just 43 ‘Vettes were made before Chevy pulled the plug on production, with General Motors choosing to wait until 1984 to introduce its all-new 4 th generation car. All but one of the 1983 Corvettes was crushed — save for No. 23, which was preserved and now calls the Corvette Museum in Kentucky home.

M1 managed to get it to the Dream Cruise — the first time the rare car has ever left Bowling Green. For $25, the public can come by the Dream Show from noon-8 p.m. Friday and all day Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. The 65 th anniversary of the Ram Charger is also being celebrated.

Werner Meier, 72, worked for GM from 1969-2002 and was instrumental in pulling the Corvette celebration together. “For our photo shoot with all the cars here, we have eight white Corvettes representing each generation of Corvette. They will be in the front of the photo.” One of the eight will be Meier's 1953 Corvette, one of only about 300 made.

The Dream Cruise and charity also go hand in hand. The D-Man Foundation is set up at the corner of Woodward and Long Lake to give hot rides to underprivileged kids and adults.

Mary Anne Pacheco, 67, of Canton Township was out early Friday prepping the parking lot — including the tent under which paraplegics and others with serious diseases are lifted into convertibles and other high-horsepower cruisers brought by volunteers for a thrilling ride down Woodward.

“This is our 11 th year,” said Pacheco in front of a ferocious, 2024, Plum Crazy purple, 807-horsepower, supercharged, 6.2-liter V-8 Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Demon Jailbreak. “Saturday just gets too crowded out on Woodward so we are here on Friday from 1-4 p.m. for every Dream Cruise. We run rides like clockwork.”

M1 Concourse , located in Pontiac, Michigan, is the ultimate destination for automobile enthusiasts. The 87-acre property offers a unique blend of style and speed, with a motorsports community of private garages and its own private Motorsports Club.

The faciltity also boasts state-of-the-art facilities, including indoor and outdoor spaces that overlook a 1.5-mile circuit, making it the perfect venue for automotive events and entertainment like MotorTrend Presents Roadkill Nights Powered by Dodge .

One of the most significant events being held at M1 Concourse this summer is the Woodward Dream Show presented by Comerica Bank (WDS). This event celebrates North America’s largest automotive culture, attracting nearly a million visitors to Metro Detroit and tens of thousands of unique rides. Although the event is open to all vehicles, the focus is on hot rods, customs, cruisers, and muscle cars.

M1 Concourse has now opened up registration for the 2023 edition of WDS. This year’s event will honor the 70th Anniversary of the Chevrolet Corvette, the 85th Anniversary of the MOPAR brand, and the 65th Anniversary of the legendary Ramchargers.

On Friday, August 18th, the hot rod, custom, cruiser, and muscle car show will take place around the M1 Circuit. The event will have a wide selection of food trucks, refreshments, and live entertainment for everyone to enjoy.

On the actual date of the Woodward Dream Cruise, Saturday, August 19th, M1 Concourse will be transformed into an oasis for those looking to park at the M1 Concourse Circuit. The M1 Cruise-In will allow visitors to experience the Race Speed Track Experience (RSTE). Everyone can jump into a performance fleet car with a professional driver for a lap on the M1 Concourse Circuit. There will also be food trucks, refreshments, and live entertainment.

In 2022, The Woodward Dream Show had over 650 show cars, divided into 15 different classes. The event saw owners and cars of some of the most iconic cars that helped define Woodward Avenue. The event is a must-attend for all automobile enthusiasts.

Tickets for the WDS are currently available at a discount. For more information on how to register your car to be displayed or to purchase tickets, visit M1 Concourse.com .

World Dream: Specialty and Complimentary Dining Review

Aaron Wong

With the odd exception, dining on the World Dream is not exactly a foodie's paradise.

As you’d expect from a large-sized cruise ship, guests on World Dream have a wide range of specialty and complimentary dining venues to choose from.

Hot Pot on World Dream

Unfortunately, with the odd exception here and there, none of them are particularly good. I’d go so far as to say that foodies should avoid the World Dream, where a whole lot of culinary disappointment awaits onboard.

Dining Packages and Credits

Unlike Royal Caribbean, Dream Cruises’ website lists virtually zero information about their dining packages or menus. You can’t book any dining venues or buy packages in advance; all this can only be done once on board.

On embarkation day, head to the main lobby at Deck 6 and look for the pop-up dining booth. This is where you’ll be able to purchase dining packages and credits at a one-day-only discount. Depending on your sailing, reservations at some specialty restaurants may fill up fast, so settle this first before going to enjoy the rest of the ship.

Embarkation day F&B sales

Let’s start with the simpler one: dining credits. You’ll enjoy up to 20% off dining credits if purchased on embarkation day:

  • Pay S$50 get S$55 credit (9% off)
  • Pay S$100 get S$120 credit (17% off)
  • Pay S$150 get S$180 credit (17% off)
  • Pay S$200 get S$250 credit (20% off)

Credits can be used at any F&B outlet onboard, with the exception of The Palace (the special restaurant for suites guests).

World Dream F&B credits

Aside from F&B credits, certain set menus at restaurants like Umi Uma, Hot Pot and Prime Steakhouse can be purchased at 20% off. Surprisingly, you can  pay for these discounted set menus with your discounted dining credits, saving even more in the process.

Embarkation day sale- Prime Steakhouse

The booking system is really inefficient and manual, though. None of it is digital; once you decide on a set menu, you’ll need to wait as a staff member picks up the phone, calls the restaurant and makes the reservation. This means that if there’s a queue at the pop-up booth when you arrive, you likely have a long wait ahead.

As for drinks, four different beverage packages are available for purchase.

dream cruise food trucks

Guests staying in Palace Suites used to receive a free premium drinks package that let them imbibe as much as they wanted all throughout the ship, but this was recently nerfed. They now receive an evening happy hour in the Palace Lounge instead, with selected wines, beers, spirits and non-alcoholic beverages.

To give you a sense of a la carte drinks prices (all prices have an 18% service charge added to them, represented by the +):

  • Soft drinks: S$3+
  • Latte: S$3.50+
  • Fresh apple juice: S$8+
  • Glass of red/white wine: S$9+
  • Beer: S$10+
  • Cocktails: S$13.50+
  • Spirits: S$15+

Happy hour runs from 6 p.m to 10 p.m daily at the bars, with selected alcoholic beverages available for S$6+.

Specialty Restaurants

Hotpot

Hot Pot is located on Deck 8, and features an all-outdoor seating area. As part of the modifications they’ve made in the COVID era, each guest now has his/her personal hotpot. I actually prefer this arrangement, to be honest- one of the miracles of hotpot is how everyone doesn’t walk away with food poisoning (have you seen how disciplined people are about mixing raw/cooked food?).

Hot Pot induction heaters

Hot Pot has a choice of three different sets:

  • Premium Combination- meat and vegetables (S$25+)
  • Luxury Combination- seafood and vegetables (S$35+)
  • Deluxe Combination- seafood, meat and vegetables (S$39+)

Hotpot menu

Don’t get fooled by the names, there’s nothing premium or luxurious about the ingredients here. My “premium” set was packed with cheap items like fatty pork belly, gristle-filled meat balls, some stringy cuts of beef, and bulked up with bean curd.

"Premium" set

A very tiny portion of vegetables accompanied the meat (remember, they shrink when cooked).

dream cruise food trucks

Three choices of broth are available (chicken, mala, tom yum), and I went with the chicken. It’s a herbal chicken broth which is slightly bitter, but if you don’t want anything spicy then it’s your only choice. A free flow of steamed rice is served, and the waitstaff will help you assemble your own dipping sauce with the usual assortment of garlic, coriander, chili padi and soya sauce.

dream cruise food trucks

The portions are small (I certainly wasn’t full), and topping up via the a la carte menu is expensive. Expect to pay S$5+ for a single portion of enoki mushrooms, S$6+ for beef and pork balls, and S$17+ for a serving of pork belly.

Hot Pot a la carte menu

If you love your hotpot, you’re going to be disappointed here. Save your budget for Tsukada Nojo or Beauty in the Pot/HDL when you’re back on land.

Prime Steakhouse by Mark Best

Prime Steakhouse by Mark Best

If you’re looking for a good steak, you won’t find it at Prime Steakhouse.

Let’s talk prices. Even with 20% off (which effectively negates the 18% service charge, so you can consider the menu prices approximately nett), food here is expensive. The cheapest steak costs S$58, which for the sake of comparison, is almost the cost of an entire meal at Chops Grille on Quantum of the Seas (S$68, with as many appetizers, mains, sides and desserts as you want).

Prime Steakhouse menu

And it’s not even good. I ordered the Black Angus Rib Eye (S$58) with a side of french fries (S$5). I was expecting that for $5, they’d give some proper thick-cut steak fries, but received exactly the same thing they were serving at the buffet for free.

Prime steakhouse

As for the steak, I have no complaints about the cook, but the meat was poorly marbled and tasted bland. Even a liberal application of peppercorn sauce couldn’t help it.

Prime Steakhouse ribeye

It felt like really poor value for money, and to top it off, the staff didn’t know their wines. I requested a glass of sparkling wine from the menu (Cruset Blanc de Blancs), and received a glass of sickeningly-sweet moscato instead. This mix up happened twice during the cruise- once here, and again at Hot Pot. If you’re ordering wine, be sure to ask them to pour from the bottle in front of you.

dream cruise food trucks

Thankfully, not all the specialty restaurants are duds. Umi Uma’s teppanyaki was the highlight of my meals onboard World Dream. It wasn’t cheap (I believe my set was about S$100 nett), but at least you get what you pay for.

Umi Uma teppanyaki on World Dream

I ordered a surf and turf set as part of the embarkation deals, which started with a small salad topped with sesame dressing.

Salad appetizer

The chef (who yes, does all the usual Benihana-esque tricks like juggling, shrimp tossing and egg anaconda-ing [you’ll know it when you see it]) then started preparing the stir-fried vegetables.

Stir-fried vegetables

And then on to the main attraction of fillet mignon and jumbo shrimp. The beef was much better than what I had over at Prime Steakhouse, and the shrimp were sweet and delicious.

Umi Uma teppanyaki on World Dream

A portion of egg fried rice was also served, and the chef was generous with the refills.

Egg fried rice

For dessert, a delicious banana pancake was served, with vanilla ice cream.

Banana pancake

As good as the teppanyaki is, you’ll want to avoid the rolls and sashimi. I returned on the final night to finish off my dining credit, and it’s…underwhelming. To top it off, they don’t serve real wasabi on board, just the artificial green playdoh type.

Complimentary Restaurants

Dream dining room.

The Dream Dining Room (DDR) is the equivalent of the main dining room on World Dream. Three meals a day are served here, all included with your cruise fare.

No reservations are needed, which is both a good and bad thing. On the one hand, there’s no need to plan ahead. On the other, show up at the wrong time and you may need to wait. When it’s your turn, the staff at reception will write a paper ticket with a table allocation, and you’ll show yourself to your seat.

dream cruise food trucks

The DDR is divided into two sections- Upper and Lower. The Upper section serves Chinese food, while the Lower section serves Western food. Despite this distinction, they both have exactly the same décor, and if you didn’t know better, you’d think the Lower section was a Chinese restaurant too.

dream cruise food trucks

They’re also directly connected via a staircase, which leads me to believe this used to be one single restaurant before it was divided by cuisine.

Dream Dining Room (Lower)

dream cruise food trucks

The lower DDR tended to have shorter queues, which was slightly surprising because dishes here were brought course by course (versus all at once in the upper DDR).

DDR Lower breakfast menu

Breakfast is a very simple affair. The menu is exactly the same each day, save for a daily special that rotated between french toast, waffles, and pancakes. The food quality was unimpressive, and heavily reliant on processed items like ham, sausages and baked beans.

Dream Dining Room (Lower) Breakfast

Lunch and dinner were slightly better, and I have to say, I was surprised by how good the fish dishes were. I was expecting them to serve dory or some other bottom feeder, but instead, I was treated to a moist and delicious piece of seabass.

DDR Lower Meal

I also had a broiled red snapper with lemon and garlic that was right on the money.

Dream Dining Room (Lower) Lunch

The rest of the stuff, sadly, was cheap and unappetizing. Cream of corn soup was so starchy you could almost pull it out of your bowl, salads were topped with rubbery frozen seafood and artificially-sweet thousand island dressing. I’d actually have been perfectly happy just going for the mains and skipping everything else.

Dream Dining Room (Lower) appetizers and desserts

Dream Dining Room (Upper)

Dream Dining Room Upper

The DDR’s upper section serves Chinese cuisine. If you’re heading here for breakfast, be warned: service ends at 9 a.m (although that said, early breakfast seems to be a theme on Dream Cruises- the Western breakfast ended at 9.30 a.m, and the buffet at 10 a.m).

The menus, as you’d expect, feature the kind of traditional Chinese dishes that would make grandma happy.

DDR Upper breakfast menu

There’s no need to choose your items here; a portion of each main course will be served as part of a set. This means that single passengers (like me) will have no shortage of food. You can ask for refills of any dish if you want.

DDR Upper breakfast

Breakfast is very carb heavy, but thankfully they serve a good mix of proteins for lunch and dinner. I wouldn’t call any particular dish life-changing, although it’s definitely better than any Chinese food served on Royal Caribbean. My main regret was the steamed rice, actually. If the rice is bad, the meal is ruined, and the rice on World Dream was mushy without any jasmine fragrance.

Lido buffet

The Lido is World Dream’s buffet, and in so many words, it’s awful. Think industrial cafeteria food, then imagine it a hundred times worse. Then picture it served in a chaotic, cramped environment with screaming kids and dirty tables, and you’ve only started to conceptualise the hell that is Lido.

And yet, this venue had some of the longest lines of any venue. It was almost impossible to get a seat during breakfast or dinner.

Queue for Lido

I suspect it’s because Lido is one of the few places onboard catering to Halal diets, so those folks don’t have much of a choice.

I could spam you with photos of the buffet spread, but you’ll have to take my word for it that most items were greasy, soggy messes, sitting in a tepid stew of lukewarm gravy and harsh lighting.

Lido buffet line

Crowd control at Lido was abysmal. Just like the DDR, you’re given a ticket with your seat number, but unlike the DDR, very few people actually stuck to theirs. On several occasions, I arrived at my seat only to find it already occupied, which necessitated revisiting the reception to get a reassignment. There was no clear system to indicate that people were done with their food, so half-eaten plates remained uncleared for prolonged periods of time, even after guests had left, further adding to the capacity crunch.

In the outside area near the pool is the Lido Outdoor Snacks Corner, an extension of the Lido buffet meant for grab-and-go.

Lido Outdoor Snacks Corner

But I hope you like stale pastries and fried food cooked in slightly rancid oil, because that’s all you’ll get here.

Lido Outdoor Snacks Corner

To summarize: Avoid Lido, unless you need a very fast pick-me-up and there’s no queue.

If you consider yourself a foodie, I could not in good conscience recommend Dream Cruises. It’s never a good sign when you find yourself asking “what’s the least bad thing I can eat today”, and that was pretty much my daily routine. Apart from teppanyaki at Umi Uma, it was dismal all round. In fact, it reminds me of the “food is fuel” approach taken by some lower-end Vegas casinos, which focus on feeding guests as cheaply and efficiently as possible so that they can get back to gaming.

I’m told that Palace guests enjoy a better menu at the Palace Restaurant , so if any of you have visited that one, do sound out. Based on my non-Palace experience though, I’ll say that food is definitely not going to be the highlight of your voyage.

The soups at western dining room were absolutely disgusting, all of them. Sometimes the waiter at western dining room would allow you to place more main dish orders, sometimes they didn’t. Breakfast at Lido the buffet and western dining room was appalling even by looking at the menu, so we didn’t even bother to try and just stuck to Chinese dining room for breakfast. Lido the snack corner, well, at least provided free powder-made fruit punch and juice. And cold milk. Guess I didn’t missing anything by not going for any paid restaurants.

tanyamib

I thought the Lido buffet Halal section was quite good. Usually in most buffet restaurants the Halal section is underwhelming, but Lido is the opposite…

You’re right, they had lamb and curry tiger prawn when I was there.

Hey Aaron, how did the garden variety on RC go? Thought you had another stab at RC without the suites. Curious to find out how different windjammers and MDR is compared to Dream Cruises.

Aaron Wong

yup I just got back this morning, will put together some thoughts this week. tl;dr, of course it can’t live up to suites experience, but definitely better than dream still. windjammer was hit and miss (still better than lido), MDR was light years better than dream for western, so-so for asian.

YSH

Could try SIlk Road if you ever go back. Had dinner there for 4 adults and it was less than $100. Quality was acceptable. Also agree their fish dishes were the better ones in DDR. Lido was probably the worst for sure.

Summary: World Dream is surely not for foodie.

John

The World Dream is a casino cruise liner. If you are member they offer you free cabins as many times you want. Probably more than half of the passengers are casino players.

Ben

Unsurprising for a cruise liner that seems geared towards the mainlanders. Reminds me of the junk I had (from a “premium” restaurant) during a work trip to Tianjin.

kho

Very detailed info. that i could probably ever ask for! Im utterly glad that i randomly clicked into this page!

glad you found it useful! hope you’re cruising after 30 may…the additional restrictions, while necessary, are going to be a major buzzkill

Hot Pot has since increased the price and removed the rice: https://railtravelstation.com/world-dream-hot-pot-review/

It’s absolutely absurd they want to charge for rice. I mean, it’s rice. It’s not even Platinum Dragon super umbrella ultra premium rice

The Coolest Cars We Saw at the 2023 Woodward Dream Cruise

The annual automotive pilgrimage to Detroit's Woodward Avenue brings out everything from exotic supercars like the Porsche 918 to classic trucks like the Dodge Power Wagon.

2023 woodward dream cruise

The arrival of the Ferrari Monza SP2 in 2018 set off a wave of new open-air supercars like the Aston Martin V12 Speedster and McLaren Elva , but the Monza has remained the prettiest of the modern speedsters. Also sold as a single-seater SP1, the windshield-less look references 1950s race cars and makes the Monza look especially low to the ground. Under the hood lives a 6.5-liter V-12 producing 799 horsepower. Ferrari built fewer than 500 Monzas, and each cost around $1.75 million.

lamborghini espada

Tucked away behind a building was one of the stars of the show, this white Lamborghini Espada. Production of this two-door, four-seat grand tourer started in 1968 and lasted 10 years, but only 1227 were made in that span. The Espada's stunningly long hood hides a 3.9-liter V-12 which produced 350 horsepower, and this example was fitted with a five-speed manual.

dodge li'l red express

The Dodge Li'l Red Express, launched as a special edition for the D-series truck in 1978, packed serious muscle for the time, with 225 horsepower from its 5.9-liter (360-cubic-inch) V-8. In Car and Driver testing, the truck became the quickest domestic vehicle at the time to hit 100 mph from a standstill. But the Li'l Red Express was just as much about the look, with exhaust stacks towering behind the cab like a semi truck, an oak-paneled bed with a wood-lined floor, and gold graphics on the doors.

porsche 918 spyder

The 887-hp plug-in-hybrid Porsche 918 Spyder debuted at the same time as McLaren's 903-hp P1 and Ferrari's 950-hp LaFerrari in 2013, the three plug-in dream machines earning the nickname the Holy Trinity. While the others made more power, the 918 knew how to transfer that oomph to the pavement, becoming the quickest car in Car and Driver testing at the time with a 2.2-second blast to 60 mph . Only 918 were built.

ford model t

The Ford Model T obviously doesn't have the performance chops of the other cars on this list, but its historical significance is indisputable. The iconic "Tin Lizzie" wasn't rare either, with Ford selling over 15 million units. But it's always a treat to see such an old machine out on the road, and as we learned last year, they are surprisingly challenging to drive .

porsche 911 gt3 rs

The GT3 RS badge has always adorned the most hardcore Porsche 911s, but the latest version is the most extreme yet. The 4.0-liter flat-six's 518 hp isn't the most dazzling number among the supercar crowd, but the 911 GT3 RS's wild aerodynamics—which draw upon Formula 1 with a drag-reduction system on the rear wing—make the GT3 RS a beast around the track. Pricing starts at a cool $225,250.

dodge power wagon

Truck lovers also had plenty to be excited about at Woodward, with lots of beautifully restored classics like this Dodge Power Wagon. Not only is the Power Wagon an imposing piece of machinery, but it was also the first production four-wheel-drive pickup when it went on sale in 1946. The burly truck was closely related to military vehicles used in World War II, and production continued into the late 1960s.

lamborghini aventador svj

The SVJ model represented the wildest version of Lamborghini's V-12-powered Aventador , with the 6.5-liter engine cranking out a potent 759 horsepower. The spiky rear wing and flared nostrils in the hood worked in tandem to provide immense downforce while limiting drag. We were especially enamored with the glistening purple paint on this example.

lamborghini diablo se30

Just a few cars down in the same lot, we stumbled upon another purple Lamborghini, this time a Diablo SE30 in a softer hue. This special edition celebrated Lamborghini's 30th anniversary and brought unique bodywork and a horsepower boost to 523 ponies from the 5.7-liter V-12. Just 150 Diablo SE30s were built.

lincoln continental

The slab-sided 1961 Lincoln Continental may have been 15 inches shorter than its predecessor, but the luxurious behemoth still stretched over 17 feet. The Continental's sleek elegance is accentuated by the coach doors and the expansive front end that contained a series of V-8 engines. The light pink color of this example reminds us of Porsche's Frozen Berry metallic paint that is offered on the electric Taycan.

ford bronco dr

We were shocked to see this limited-production Ford Bronco DR , especially since the $295,000 off-roader isn't road legal. Although the DR uses a stock Bronco frame and standard 10-speed automatic gearbox, the V-6 engine was swapped for a Coyote 5.0-liter V-8. Special dampers from Multimatic and 37-inch BFGoodrich tires help absorb bumps as the DR shoots across craggy desert terrain.

de tomaso pantera

The De Tomaso Pantera combined stunning Italian design with American power, housing a series of Ford-sourced V-8s inside its sharp bodywork. The Pantera remained in production for two decades with a little over 7000 produced, but the cleaner styling of the earlier models, like this one, is considered more desirable.

bmw m3 cs

The latest BMW M3 already featured a polarizing design, but the track-focused CS model takes it even further with black accents on the hood, a redesigned grille with a red border, and a lurid shade of green. A heavy dose of carbon fiber helped shave off around 75 pounds versus a standard M3 Competition, and the 3.0-liter inline six ekes out an extra 40 horsepower for a total of 543 ponies.

buick lowrider

Nearly every facet of car culture is on display at the Woodward Dream Cruise, and we saw several posses of lowriders cruising the boulevard, showing off their trick hydraulic systems. Their bouncy theatrics drew cheers from the crowds lining the streets, and once they had parked, we were able to appreciate the meticulous craft that is required to build these ornate custom vehicles.

porsche 718 cayman gt4 rs

Porsche finally unleashed the full potential of the Cayman with the GT4 RS model, swiping the 4.0-liter flat-six engine from the 911 GT3. In the Cayman GT4 RS, the 9000-rpm motor releases 493 hp, and a combination of sticky tires and hardcore aerodynamics helped it pull 1.11 g on the skidpad in Car and Driver testing.

toyota land cruiser 70 series

Although the show is dominated by American metal, there were some neat Japanese cars like this Toyota Land Cruiser. Launched in 1984, the 70-series Land Cruiser has been assembled in a diverse array of body styles and with a large cast of different engines. The truck is still in production in the Middle East. That's where we believe this example was imported from, based on the national emblem of Yemen affixed to the grille.

ferrari sf90 stradale

It took until 2021 for the Porsche 918 Spyder to be beaten, when the Ferrari SF90 Stradale dashed to 60 mph in just 2.1 seconds in a Car and Driver test. It shouldn't have been a surprise, given the plug-in-hybrid V-8 powertrain's impressive 986-hp output. This example looked especially beautiful in this deep shade of green.

bmw m3 e30

The BMW M3 is the sports-sedan benchmark, and the E30 generation from the 1980s was the genesis. Built to fulfill the homologation requirement to race in Germany's DTM series, the four-cylinder engine sent 192 horsepower through a five-speed stick shift to the rear wheels. The E30 is now considered among the greatest M3s ever built.

jaguar xe sv project 8

Jaguar never really built a true M3 rival off the XE sedan, but it did construct 300 examples of the SV Project 8 , a stripped-down race car for the road with a 592-hp supercharged V-8. Designed to set a lap record for sedans at the Nürburgring, the SV Project 8 even came with a track package that deleted the rear seats (but kept the rear doors).

bentley brooklands

Among the herd of low-slung supercars, the large-and-in-charge Bentley Brooklands stood out. This opulent coupe was related to the Arnage sedan and Azure convertible, and only 550 units were built between 2008 and 2011. A 6.8-liter V-8 fed 530 horsepower through a six-speed automatic to the rear wheels of this $348,085 colossus.

Headshot of Caleb Miller

Caleb Miller began blogging about cars at 13 years old, and he realized his dream of writing for a car magazine after graduating from Carnegie Mellon University and joining the Car and Driver team. He loves quirky and obscure autos, aiming to one day own something bizarre like a Nissan S-Cargo, and is an avid motorsports fan.

Feasting on the High Seas: Resorts World Cruises Dining Delights

dream cruise food trucks

Written by Katherine

Genting dream | resorts world cruises | singapore.

Welcome back to part two of the Resorts World Cruises Genting Dream series~! In this second part of the series, I will be covering the dining options that you can find on board the Resorts World Cruises Genting Dream. Similar to what I have done with Dream Cruises, I have chosen a speciality restaurant to try out its food and service. Without further ado, let’s check out what you can eat on board the cruise~! ⁽⁽◝( • ω • )◜⁾⁾

✨ BEFORE YOU GO ✨

In case you have missed out on the previous parts of the series, you might want to check out the following posts as well:

  • My Experience of Staying at the Balcony Room and Our Disastrous Embarkation
  • All the Activities on Board Resorts World Cruises!

Inclusive Dining Options

Speciality restaurants, using the resorts world cruises portal for dining information, nominal fee for a second inclusive meal, is reservation needed for resorts world cruises’ dining, resorts world cruises’ dining package, dream dining room – how does it fare this time, must-haves at the lido, better be early on the last day for breakfast, snacks & supper options, full menu of lobby cafe and blue lagoon, superb service at the silk road, all about the dishes, other things worth mentioning, full menu of silk road, menus from other speciality restaurants, photo gallery, singapore-related posts, resorts world cruises genting dream dining options.

Since we were staying in the Balcony Stateroom, we assumed that the inclusive dining options on the Resorts World Cruises would be similar to Dream Cruises. That means the Dream Dining Room Lower and Upper as well as The Lido are inclusive. While preparing for this blog post, I read through all the RW Daily I gathered from the past few days. And O.M.G., I realised Blue Lagoon and Function 8 also have inclusive dinners! (⊙_⊙) I blame Resorts World Cruises for not putting their RW Daily in our room on the first day! (#`Д´)

So if you are reading my posts, you are safe. And just in case, I have included the inclusive restaurants and opening hours below for your reference, subject to differences and changes.

Besides the inclusive restaurants, there are also a lot of speciality restaurants if you are willing to pay for your meals on board. I have included the speciality restaurants and their opening hours below for your reference, subject to differences and changes.

I would say most of the restaurants are the same as what was on board the Dream Cruises with a few additional choices such as the Bistro and the Lido Outdoor Hot Pot & Grill. We also decided to try Silk Road this time since we have tried a few others on Dream Cruises. I will talk more about this later~! (´• ω •`)

Besides the speciality restaurants, there is also a wide selection of bars and lounges if you want to drink and chill. I have included two bars below for your reference as they included snack options. All other bars and lounges would be mentioned under part three of the series!

Besides all the useful information I have mentioned in the first part of the series , you can also find all the dining information on the Resorts World Cruises portal.

Screenshots taken from the Resorts World Cruises portal on the dining options

I don’t remember this being a thing previously but a nominal amount will be charged for a second meal during the same meal period for the inclusive dining options. This means that if you already had lunch at the Dream Dining Room Lower, you would need to pay a nominal amount to have lunch at let’s say, The Lido, on the same day. Since they scan your key card before dining, you cannot cheat the system. ( ´ ω ` )

Note that this does not apply to speciality restaurants. That means that you can have lunch at Umi Uma and go to The Lido to have lunch again on the same day. We went to The Lido for desserts after our meal at the Silk Road so this is tried and tested. (´ ∀ ` *)

No reservation is required for the inclusive restaurants and everything is based on a first-come-first-served basis. Simply put, you just have to queue for inclusive restaurants. (´・ᴗ・ ` ) Reservations for the speciality restaurants can be made by calling their hotline or you could simply approach the restaurant’s reception during their opening hours.

Another simpler way is to use the portal! You just have to choose the restaurant that you want and scroll all the way down to see the “Make a reservation” tab. From there, you can choose your number of pax as well as your preferred date and time. Nice and easy! You can even use it to locate the restaurant. See, I told you the portal is very useful. ヾ(´ ▽ ` )

Screenshots taken from the Resorts World Cruises portal on how to make a dining reservation using the portal

Anyway, as compared to the Cruise to Nowhere, I think there were fewer passengers reserving the speciality restaurants, especially when we had the option to disembark on the second day. But it is still advisable to make a reservation since you don’t know how popular the restaurants might be. Better safe than sorry~! (*¯︶¯*)

If you are dining at the speciality restaurants on board the Resorts World Cruises, it would be good to consider buying the Pay as You Go – Extra F&B Credits . This promotion is only available until a certain time so make sure to make the purchase before that. Once you know roughly how much you might be spending, just head over to one of the bars or speciality restaurants to make the purchase.

Note that the credits are non-refundable and cannot be used with promotional items. A sticker would be pasted on your key card so that staff would recognise that you are using the F&B credits. And by right, they would also advise you if you happen to order a promotional item.

Key card showing a sticker on it if you purchase a Resorts World Cruises dining package with them

Also, depending on the staff, they would usually let you know the remaining credits you have. We went to Zouk and paid for the drinks using our credits but the staff did not inform hubs of the balance. Unfortunately, the only way to find out is to check with reception. We were wondering how tough could it be if the system captures everything. Eventually, we realised the calculation was actually done manually. I guess the restaurants and bars can only calculate for you if you buy something from them. Also, maybe Zouk was too dark for the staff to do any calculations hence no balance was given to us. (´・ᴗ・ ` )

After a terrible experience with the Dream Dining Room on the Dream Cruises , I was reluctant to have breakfast there. But for your sake, I decided to give it a go! (-ω-、) This time, we went with the Chinese set menu at the Dream Dining Room Upper again. The menu just seems more interesting as compared to the International Buffet at the Dream Dining Room Lower. Also, my parents would prefer to have Chinese food so that was the choice we went with. (´• ω •`)

Surprisingly Good Food from the Chinese Set Menu

Anyway, we didn’t have to wait too long until we got a table assigned to us. We waited for a while and all the food from the Chinese set menu was being served. And surprise surprise, the breakfast was actually one of the best meals we had from an inclusive restaurant. LIKE WHAT!? (๑˃ᴗ˂)ﻭ

The interior of the Dream Dining Room on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

Honestly, everything was good! I was definitely caught by surprise after that lousy meal we had on Dream Cruises. Even my parents gave their approval. ٩(◕‿◕。)۶ The best of the lot was the Deep Fried Golden Silk, which we have no idea what is it made of. The inside tasted like mochi while the outer layer is similar to that of the crab claw you see in buffets or restaurants. It was more sweet than savoury. A really surprisingly nice dish.

The breakfast set that we had at the Dream Dining Room on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

The only ambiguous item was the steamed red bean paste bao. Or what we thought to be the steamed red bean paste bao but turned out to be a kaya bao? Haha! (◎ ◎)ゞ Another thing to highlight was the service. I think the staff was overwhelmed hence they held off the queue. We asked for chilli sauce twice and it did not appear even at the end of the meal. ┐(‘~`;)┌

Be Early to Avoid Disappointment!

We went to the Dream Dining Room Upper on the second day and there was a long queue when we arrived at around 8.30 AM or so. After queuing for a while, a staff came out to block off the queue behind us, probably to manage the crowd. She told the remaining guests to come back at 9.15 AM, which is 15 minutes before the closing time. (・・;)ゞ I think a lot of them would just go to The Lido for breakfast instead. But if you are coming here for breakfast, better come earlier!

The Lido, International Buffet by the Sea

Since what Dream Cruises offered was so similar to Resorts World Cruises, I thought the food quality would be similar. Let’s just say the variety of food options was still there but there were more hits and misses during the few meals we had at The Lido. (´-ω-`)

As with Dream Cruises, Halal and Indian Vegetarian options are available in the buffet. There honestly wasn’t much to highlight. The speciality item on the first night was roasted beef and the smaller pieces tasted better than the chunky ones. A lot of people were queuing for them since there was only a section for the speciality item.

People queuing up for the roast beef at The Lido on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

I highly recommend having the cakes and fruits while at The Lido. We tried all their cakes and about 95% of them were really good. Even the kuehs at the Halal section were quite nice as well. The fruits were also generally quite sweet and tasty. (b ᵔ▽ᵔ)b Interestingly, there was also an ice cream machine! Hubs made a really nicely shaped one for me though I ended up not finishing it because it tasted pretty average. Haha! (*/ω\)

Some of the cakes and desserts we had at The Lido on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

We had breakfast at The Lido on the last day. Since we would be arriving in Singapore at 10 AM, we know that the majority of the guests would be having breakfast at The Lido around the same time. So we decided to wake up earlier to have breakfast and that was probably the best decision we have ever made. We didn’t have to queue too long before getting a table at around 7.30 AM and there was already quite a crowd inside the dining area. By the time we were done, there was a super mega-long queue outside. So yes, if you don’t want to wait, wake up earlier~! (´• ω •`)

The long queue outside The Lido on the last day for breakfast on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

Anyway, based on the signage on every table, dining is limited to one hour. But we have never been chased out by them before so probably this will only be in effect during super crowded hours, such as the last day’s breakfast hour. ( ´ ω ` )

I didn’t go for either as we were too full from our lunch to have snacks. We checked out supper on the first night and it was way too crowded. So we skipped that and moved on. Haha! I am guessing it should probably be the usual fries, nuggets and what-nots. (´・ᴗ・ ` )

Lobby Cafe and Blue Lagoon – Light Snacks & Supper

Previously on Dream Cruises, we tried the Singapore Laksa from the Lobby Cafe and it was really delicious. This time, we went for something light from their All-Time Favourites menu, kaya toast. To be honest, it was not too bad but nothing beats the ones at Yakun. So don’t put your hopes too high! (´ ∀ ` *)

The Kaya Toast from the All-Time Favourites at the Lobby Cafe on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

Besides the Lobby Cafe, we also managed to have supper at the Blue Lagoon. Our in-room dining on Dream Cruises was actually from Blue Lagoon and the food portion was big and tasted quite good as well. So this time, we decided to try eating at the restaurant. We were still not hungry yet but I pulled my parents along to eat after leaving the Zouk Night Club. \(★ω★)/

We ordered pork congee, Singapore Hokkien mee as well as fried keow teow. And everything was ON POINT. O.M.G. We have been missing out on some delicious food! Blue Lagoon’s food portion was HUGE and the food was super delicious. I especially love the fried keow teow for the wok hei. I swear if there weren’t four of us, we probably couldn’t finish the food. (*/ω\)

Silk Road – Dining Highlight of Our Resorts World Cruises Trip

Dining at the Silk Road was the highlight of our trip. Since my parents are used to having Chinese cuisine, we decided to have dinner on our last night at Silk Road. And I have to say, it was definitely a very worthy meal. (´ ω `♡)

The decorations of Silk Road on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

Since we dined at Umi Uma and Hot Pot on Dream Cruises previously, we thought that the food at Silk Road would be kind of overpriced. But we were wrong. The food at Silk Road was quite affordable for the quality and quantity of food served. The service we received was also top-notch and our staff attending to our table was also really attentive and friendly. As mentioned earlier, we cannot use the F&B credits on promotional items. After noting the sticker on hubs’ key card, she reminded us of this and suggested alternatives for our order. Too bad I didn’t get her name as her service was so amazing. She even offered to take a group photo for us when I was taking a photo of my parents. (´• ω •`) ♡

A photo of hubby and I with my parents and the interior of Silk Road on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

Anyway, we ordered the Two Courses Peking Duck (Half), two bowls of Hot and Sour Seafood Soup, Fried French Beans and Claypot Braised Pork Belly. Everything tasted sooooooooooooooooooooo good except for the duck meat, which was a bit tough as we chose to stir fry it as the second course from the Peking Duck. The highlight of the meal was definitely the Peking Duck skin and wrap. I don’t remember how much it cost to have this item but it only cost us 38 SGD! Oh boy, I could have more. (っ˘ڡ˘ς)

The Peking Duck dish that we had at Silk Road on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

Another of our favourites was the claypot braised pork belly. The quantity was a lot and it has a slight hint of spiciness to it. The overall umami was ON POINT. As I said, everything that we ordered was on point and we couldn’t be happier with our decision. The cost of soup on the menu is per bowl so order based on the number of bowls you need. We ordered two bowls of soup for sharing since we had a lot of food. So everything adds up to quite a nice quantity for us. Overall, we paid 108 SGD for everything, excluding the 18% service charge. (´• ω •`)ノ

Other dishes we had at Silk Road on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

The rice, tea, as well as peanuts (appetisers), were free. We only had two bowls of rice since we did not want to overeat. Haha! But it was nice to know that these items come free with our meal so we did not have to incur additional costs. Unless you want to have the special tea from their menu, drink to your heart’s content! (*♡∀♡)

There was also a huge screen and stage in front of us and they were showing some China programs before they started to show videos from Li Ziqi . That was nice and a good way for us to enjoy our meal while watching her cook. My parents definitely enjoyed it a lot. (´・ᴗ・ ` )

The big screen at Silk Road on Resorts World Cruises, one of the dining location on board

I captured the full menu of Silk Road but please pardon my phone’s shadow. The lighting in there wasn’t the best. Click on each thumbnail to expand the image. ♡( ◡‿◡ )

Besides the menu from Silk Road, I also managed to capture the menu from Umi Uma, Bistro and Red Lion for your reference. Click on each thumbnail to expand the image.(*^^*)♡

I have compared the price of Umi Uma from this trip to the one we had at Dream Cruises. The price is the same except for the 18% service charge. So you could probably still refer to my old blog post for restaurants I did not feature here. I did not see the prices for The Lido’s Hot Pot & Grill and Gelateria was always NOT OPENED. I also forgot to take a photo of the menu at the Crystal Life Cuisine so you are on your own for these places! (´・ᴗ・ ` )

'Best food in the city': Food truck Dream Foods in Milwaukee quickly making a name for itself

dream cruise food trucks

MILWAUKEE — Even though the food truck is just two years old, Dream Foods in Milwaukee is already making a big name for itself.

“It’s good. Got the best food in the city," Lorenzo said.

“My biggest thing is the egg rolls. I mean I love them," Stephanie Griffin said.

Dream Foods

“Excellent scrum-diddly-umcious the best egg rolls in Milwaukee," Shanika said.

That’s big talk. But the owner of the food truck, Dream Foods, said all those loyal customers are right.

“Guaranteed my food is the best in the city. Guaranteed," Marlo Triggs said.

“That’s strong words right there," TMJ4 Reporter James Groh responded.

“Strong words, and I can back it up," Triggs replied.

Triggs had a storefront for about four years before switching to a food truck. The number one item? You guessed it, the egg rolls.

Dream Foods

“And then he impromptu made a breakfast egg roll which he is not selling. He should sell the breakfast egg roll," Griffin said.

He also sells turkey legs, chicken wings, corn on the cob, sausage, fries, slushies, and more.

Dream Foods will be one of the vendors at the Juneteenth Street Festival after the parade . Usually, though, he sits at the corner of 38th and Center Monday through Saturday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m.

“I’m even liable to bring the food to you. Cook it and bring it to you. All you have to do is just drop me a call and I’ll get with you.”

His number is (414) 587-1216. Triggs said you can call to get food brought to you, find out when he will be serving food, or where he will be.

Owning his own business was a lifelong dream. Now, Triggs has big plans.

“I’m expecting within the next five to 10 years to get a few more food trucks to add to (the business).”

He wants to be all over the city, and one thing is going to help him do that.

Dream Sauce

“You know, I make my own sauce and seasoning, yes sir.”

It’s his secret dream sauce and secret seasoning. I tried asking what was in it.

“The secret to the - love," he said with a laugh.

That’s a safely guarded recipe. However, you can try it on wings, spring rolls, or his giant turkey legs. In fact, the sauce and seasoning have been so popular he wants to mass produce it to sell in stores.

Carnival cruise food: The ultimate guide to restaurants and dining on board

O n a Carnival cruise, food is always one of the highlights. From Guy Fieri burgers to fancy steaks at Fahrenheit 555, you'll find endless options to satisfy your hunger in a highly enjoyable fashion. In fact, there's often more to eat and explore than you could possibly have time for in a single sailing.

If you're planning your next cruise and want to know which Carnival restaurants to expect on board, you've come to the right place. While certain dining venues remain a standard across all ships — like the much-loved Lido Deck buffet — the options keep expanding with every new ship launch. Plus, older ships are constantly being refurbished and updated with new restaurants. That's why we put together this comprehensive list of Carnival cruise restaurants and where you can find them.

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Consider this your ultimate guide to Carnival cruise food, with details about every restaurant in the fleet, as well as answers to the most commonly asked questions about dining on a Carnival cruise ship.

Carnival restaurants available fleetwide

Coffee bar or javablue cafe.

A la carte pricing; snacks

Black coffee and tea are free at the buffet and in the main dining room, but you'll want to come here for specialty coffee drinks like espresso or cold brew. You can also purchase milkshakes and baked goods when you need an extra pick-me-up (or grab free Danish pastries and croissants in the morning).

Dining room

Included; breakfast and dinner

The main dining room serves a sit-down breakfast and the nightly three-course dinner that's included in your cruise fare. Even better, Carnival's chief culinary officer, Emeril Lagasse, is now behind many of the dining room's new menu items. On Carnival, the main dining room comes with less pretense than on many other cruise lines. In fact, it's not uncommon for your servers to break out in song and dance by the end of the night.

Don't miss other special dining experiences like the complimentary Seaday Brunch menu or the family-friendly Dr. Seuss-themed breakfast for an additional fee ($10 to $15 per adult; $8 to $10 per child), which includes meet-and-greets with characters.

Lido Marketplace

Included; breakfast, lunch and dinner

Carnival's buffet on the Lido Deck has all the staple stations to keep you fed from morning until night. Try the deli counter, barbecue spot, pasta bar or Asian noodle station. Don't miss the always-essential salad bar or pizza station. Finish up with soft serve ice cream, frozen yogurt or an enormous cake slice and other goodies from the dessert station.

Included; snacks

Carnival cruise food: Frequently asked questions

How do seating times work in the main dining room.

Before sailing, you must choose your preferred dining format for the main dining room — either set dining times with assigned seating or a flexible option called Your Time Dining with open seating. If you prefer a preset dining time and a guaranteed table with the same server every night, you can choose early dining at 5:30 p.m. or late dining at 7:45 p.m.

With Your Time Dining, you can go to the main dining room anytime between 5:15 p.m. and 9 p.m. to be seated on a first-come, first-served basis. Just alert the dining room that you're coming on the Carnival Hub app so your table will be ready sooner. You can request a specific waiter, but more likely, you'll sit at a different table with a new waiter each evening. You might have to wait for a table at peak dinner times, but Carnival says the average wait time is usually less than 20 minutes, depending on your party size.

Either way, there's no need to make a reservation for the main dining room.

Do you need reservations for specialty dining restaurants?

Reservations are highly recommended for specialty restaurants, as these locations can book up in advance. You can make reservations online up to 48 hours before your cruise by visiting the "Manage My Booking/Cruise Manager" section of Carnival.com, at which time you'll also pay the cover charge for the restaurant.

Once you get on board, look for staff set up at booths to help you make specialty dining reservations. You can also call or visit the restaurant yourself to make a reservation, but seating times might be limited. Walk-ins are allowed but will get seated based on availability. If you don't make a reservation, be prepared for a wait or the possibility of being turned away if the restaurant is booked.

Can you enjoy unlimited food on your Carnival cruise?

It depends on where you eat! There are no limits on most of the included food options, and you can pretty much find free food on your cruise from the crack of dawn to late into the night. You can always eat as much as you want at the buffet in Lido Marketplace and other included food stations across the ship during their operating hours. In the main dining room, however, guests are limited to two free entrees (which, let's be honest, is still plenty!) before having to pay for additional entrees.

Is there a fee for room service?

Room service isn't free on Carnival anymore, except during breakfast. Instead, menu items are available to order a la carte. Complimentary continental breakfast can be delivered to your room between the hours of 6 and 10 a.m. For more details, check out our complete cruise ship room service guide .

Are kids menus available?

Most dining venues offer kids menus with plenty of safe options for picky eaters (think: chicken nuggets, macaroni and cheese, and spaghetti and meatballs). If you're dining at one of the specialty restaurants with a cover charge, there's a reduced fee for kids under 11.

Does Carnival still offer a Lobster Night?

Lobster is available for dinner nightly in the main dining room for a surcharge, but on cruise sailings of six nights or longer, Carnival offers one night per sailing (typically one of the formal nights) where a lobster tail is included as a complimentary entree option on the three-course menu. But don't expect to scarf down all the lobster you can eat. In line with Carnival's two-entree limit in the main dining room, guests now have to pay for any additional lobster past the first two entrees.

History, love is in the air in Boonsboro

Washington county, md., town embraces its past and romance book-loving visitors.

At the foot of South Mountain in Washington County, Md., the village of Boonsboro could be known for its proximity to the Appalachian Trail or its ties to major Civil War battles. But the town of 3,800 residents about 55 miles from D.C. might be most famous for its connection to Nora Roberts, the best-selling author of more than 200 romance novels.

The town’s motto, “Discover Our History. Savor The Romance.” captures this distinct mix of attractions that have made it a popular tourist destination. But Boonsboro’s access to nature, frequent town events, and location make it an inviting place to stay, residents say.

Literary lovers hope to catch a glance of Nora Roberts, “our local celebrity,” said Diana Hyvarinen, an employee of Turn The Page Bookstore, owned by Roberts’s husband, Bruce Wilder. “Of course I’ve met Nora,” Hyvarinen said with a smile.

“Bruce and I started our first business in Boonsboro around thirty years ago because there was no bookstore in southern Washington County,” said Roberts, who has lived in Keedysville, about three miles away, since 1972. “Our sons went to school in Boonsboro, making that an important connection, and we believed then, as we do now, that investing in Main Street could and would make a difference,” she said by email.

And it has. “Her fans come here a lot to stay at her Inn and then to cruise through the businesses,” Hyvarinen said. Since opening Turn The Page Bookstore in 1995, “we’ve found other wonderful old buildings that needed some love, and opened businesses we felt would enhance a lovely small town we have a deep and personal connection to and affection for,” Roberts said. Today, she owns Gifts Inn BoonsBoro, Fit In BoonsBoro and Inn BoonsBoro, popular for inspiring her Inn BoonsBoro Trilogy that published from 2011 to 2012.

Spice Cromie, a chef at Inn BoonsBoro, wasn’t looking for a job or a chance to see Roberts when she stumbled into Boonsboro to “resupply” during an Appalachian Trail hike four years ago. The town’s readiness to provide food, supplies and information to hikers made it a designated A.T. Community by the Appalachian Trail Conservancy last year.

Keen for a new adventure, Cromie felt called to stay in Boonsboro’s small-town environment for its comfort, kind people and easy accessibility to the A.T., within three miles, she said. She ended up with “a dream job” at the inn. She still visits the trail every day, running in preparation for ultramarathons like the JFK 50 Mile.

Dubbed “America's Oldest Ultramarathon,” the JFK 50 crosses through parts of the A.T. and draws droves of runners to Boonsboro every November. “There’s probably 3,000 people here,” Cromie said, and they unite in excitement on the starting line, marked by two commemorative bronze plaques, in front of Roberts’ Inn.

Boonsboro was founded in 1792 by George and William Boone, cousins of the well-known frontiersman Daniel Boone. The Boone brothers planned the town around what became National Road, the first federally funded highway, spanning from Maryland to Missouri, completed in the 1830s. This historic is now known as Alternate Route 40 and, in Boonsboro, Main Street. Every May, replica wagon trains pulled by horses and mules come to town during the National Pike Festival/National Road Festival, a 90-mile trek to honor the “Road That Made the Nation.”

Other events — from the Spring Jubilee to the Boonesborough Days Annual Crafts Festival to the Boonsboro Food Truck Festival — attract residents and tourists. “I always call it the busiest little, small town,” said Dana Healy, who moved from Hagerstown with her family of five in search of more land.

Healy owns Josie’s on Main, a boutique clothing and home goods store on Main Street and is a member of the town’s Economic Development Commission. “There’s always something going on. … and we never have a hard time trying to get people involved,” Healy said. “That’s a huge part of why I love Boonsboro.”

The town’s growth is seen in new businesses, including The Admiral restaurant and a long-awaited hardware store that opened in 2023.

But locals still boast of Boonsboro’s roots along Main Street, including the restored 1902 Trolley Station, National Road Museum and the Boonsborough Museum of History, which has artifacts from the nearby Civil War battlefields of South Mountain and Antietam. More than 500 buildings along Main Street and neighboring roads fall within Boonsboro’s Historic District, added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

Today, Boonsboro is “a very sought after area,” especially for its “central” location, said Roben Ryberg, a real estate agent with Samson Properties who raised her family in Boonsboro.

Access to urban amenities can be found in Frederick, 17 miles south, and Hagerstown, 11 miles north. Other attractions, including Antietam, C&O Canal Park and Washington Monument State Park, are within 10 miles.

For Ryberg, who’s spent more than 20 years in and around Boonsboro, one goal still rings true for residents, she said: “that the small-town heart of Boonsboro remains the small-town heart of Boonsboro.”

Living There: As of March 2, there were three active properties on the market, ranging from a five-bedroom, four-bathroom colonial for $459,900 to a four-bedroom, four-bathroom colonial for $545,000, Ryberg said. In the last 12 months, more than 40 properties have sold, from $164,850 to $575,000.

Schools: Boonsboro Elementary, Boonsboro Middle and Boonsboro High School

Transit: Residents have quick access to ALT 40, and Maryland Routes 34, 66, 67, and 68. Dulles International Airport is 50 miles away.

‘A Lot of Chaos’: Bridge Collapse Creates Upheaval at Largest U.S. Port for Car Trade

A bridge collapse closed Baltimore’s port, an important trade hub that ranks first in the nation by the volume of automobiles and light trucks it handles.

Shipping in the Port of Baltimore

Monthly cargo handled by the Port of Baltimore

  • March 26, 2024

The Baltimore bridge disaster on Tuesday upended operations at one of the nation’s busiest ports, with disruptions likely to be felt for weeks by companies shipping goods in and out of the country — and possibly by consumers as well.

The upheaval will be especially notable for auto makers and coal producers for whom Baltimore has become one of the most vital shipping destinations in the United States.

As officials began to investigate why a nearly 1,000-foot cargo ship ran into the Francis Scott Key Bridge in the middle of the night, companies that transport goods to suppliers and stores scrambled to get trucks to the other East Coast ports receiving goods diverted from Baltimore. Ships sat idle elsewhere, unsure where and when to dock.

“It’s going to cause a lot of chaos,” said Paul Brashier, vice president for drayage and intermodal at ITS Logistics.

The closure of the Port of Baltimore is the latest hit to global supply chains, which have been strained by monthslong crises at the Panama Canal, which has had to slash traffic because of low water levels; and the Suez Canal, which shipping companies are avoiding because of attacks by the Houthis on vessels in the Red Sea.

The auto industry now faces new supply headaches.

Last year, 570,000 vehicles were imported through Baltimore, according to Sina Golara, an assistant professor of supply chain management at Georgia State University. “That’s a huge amount,” he said, equivalent to nearly a quarter of the current inventory of new cars in the United States.

The Baltimore port handled a record amount of foreign cargo last year, and it was the 17th biggest port in the nation overall in 2021, ranked by total tons, according to Bureau of Transportation Statistics.

Baltimore Ranks in the Top 20 U.S. Ports

Total trade in 2021 in millions of tons

Baltimore ranks first in the United States for the volume of automobiles and light trucks it handles, and for vessels that carry wheeled cargo, including farm and construction machinery, according to a statement by Gov. Wes Moore of Maryland last month.

The incident is another stark reminder of the vulnerability of the supply chains that transport consumer products and commodities around the world.

The extent of the disruption depends on how long it takes to reopen shipping channels into the port of Baltimore. Experts estimate it could take several weeks.

Baltimore is not a leading port for container ships, and other ports can likely absorb traffic that was headed to Baltimore, industry officials said.

Stephen Edwards, the chief executive of the Port of Virginia, said it was expecting a vessel on Tuesday that was previously bound for Baltimore, and that others would soon follow. “Between New York and Virginia, we have sufficient capacity to handle all this cargo,” Mr. Edwards said, referring to container ships.

“Shipping companies are very agile,” said Jean-Paul Rodrigue, a professor in the department of maritime business administration at Texas A&M University-Galveston. “In two to three days, it will be rerouted.”

But other types of cargo could remain snarled.

Alexis Ellender, a global analyst at Kpler, a commodities analytics firm, said he expected the port closure to cause significant disruption of U.S. exports of coal. Last year, about 23 million metric tons of coal exports were shipped from the port of Baltimore, about a quarter of all seaborne U.S. coal shipments. About 12 vessel had been expected to leave the port of Baltimore in the next week or so carrying coal, according to Kpler.

He noted that it would not make a huge dent on the global market, but he added that “the impact is significant for the U.S. in terms of loss of export capacity.”

“You may see coal cargoes coming from the mines being rerouted to other ports instead,” he said, with a port in Norfolk, Va., the most likely.

If auto imports are reduced by Baltimore’s closure, inventories could run low, particularly for models that are in high demand.

“We are initiating discussions with our various transportation providers on contingency plans to ensure an uninterrupted flow of vehicles to our customers and will continue to carefully monitor this situation,” Stellantis, which owns Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram, said in a statement.

Other ports have the capacity to import cars, but there may not be enough car transporters at those ports to handle the new traffic.

“You have to make sure the capacity exists all the way in the supply chain — all the way to the dealership,” said Mr. Golara, the Georgia State professor.

A looming battle is insurance payouts, once legal liability is determined. The size of the payout from the insurer is likely to be significant and will depend on factors including the value of the bridge, the scale of loss of life compensation owed to families of people who died, the damage to the vessel and disruption to the port.

The ship’s insurer, Britannia P&I Club, part of a global group of insurers, said in a statement that it was “working closely with the ship manager and relevant authorities to establish the facts and to help ensure that this situation is dealt with quickly and professionally.”

The port has also increasingly catered to large container ships like the Dali, the 948-foot-long cargo vessel carrying goods for the shipping giant Maersk that hit a pillar of the bridge around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The Dali had spent two days in Baltimore’s port before setting off toward the 1.6-mile Francis Scott Key Bridge.

State-owned terminals, managed by the Maryland Port Administration, and privately owned terminals in Baltimore transported a record 52.3 million tons of foreign cargo in 2023, worth $80 billion.

Materials transported in large volumes through the city’s port include coal, coffee and sugar. It was the ninth-busiest port in the nation last year for receiving foreign cargo, in terms of volume and value.

The bridge’s collapse will also disrupt cruises traveling in and out of Baltimore. Norwegian Cruise Line last year began a new fall and winter schedule calling at the Port of Baltimore.

An earlier version of this article misstated the Port of Baltimore’s rank among U.S. ports. It was the nation’s 17th biggest port by total tons in 2021, not the 20th largest.
