National Space Centre Virtual Tour - Museum Virtual Tour - Educational Resource

Whoooop! Thank you so much for all of your help. I’m thrilled with the end result.

National Space Centre

Museum & Educational Resource Virtual Tour

The National Space Centre wanted a tour that directly addressed the needs of different target markets. Using our unique content management system we replicated the tour so that each audience would navigate in their own way with appropriate and engaging content relevant to them.

This solution ensured that they got the best possible conversion rates with the most effective content for each client. Another challenge we faced, was the areas were extremely dark, particularly in the planetarium. Their 360 planetarium area required excellent low-light photography. We overcame this challenge successfully to produce stunning 360 visuals for the client.

We offer the museums and educational industries a multitude of options and unique fully customisable features to meet each and every requirement.

UNIQUE BUSINESS BENEFITS:

 • a stunning visual showpiece of the National Space Centre and its facilities.
 • attracting all past and future clients.
 • interactive, fast loading and responsive.
 • accessibility features set the standard in following WCAG 2.1 guidelines. We provide more accessibility compliance options than any other tour.
 • content management system giving staff options to add information to scenes, create and edit hotspots and add introduction videos.
 • our CMS ensures the tour can be adapted year after year without additional costs.
 • unique design in keeping with their strong branding.
 • custom menu styles to enable users to explore by event type.
 • customised virtual tour with a 4-way event type selection to enter into the desired area of choice.
 • fast turnaround time.
 • the tour has been a huge hit with users spending an average of 5 minutes engaging and exploring.

The National Space Centre is a museum and educational resource covering the fields of space science and astronomy, along with a space research programme in partnership with the University of Leicester. It is located on the north side of the city in Belgrave, Leicester, England, next to the River Soar.

The award-winning National Space Centre is an out of this world experience for the whole family. Home to the UK’s largest planetarium, the Centre has six interactive galleries, iconic Rocket Tower and hosts events throughout the year.

The award-winning National Space Centre is an out of this world experience for the whole family!

With six interactive galleries, the UK’s largest planetarium, immersive Tetrastar Spaceport experience and iconic 42m high Rocket Tower, there really is something for everybody to enjoy. Add to this on-site parking, café, shop and all the facilities you would expect from a world class attraction and you have an all-weather day out in Leicester, at the heart of the UK.

The rocket tower is pretty impressive for people of all ages, as it towers 42m into the air and its semi-transparent “pillow” design can be seen as you approach the Centre from any direction! It is home two rockets: Blue Streak and Thor Able, as well as a Gagarin Experience, Apollo Lunar Lander and real Moon Rock.

If that’s not enough, your entry ticket gets you a free show at the planetarium, which is the largest in the UK and first opened in 2012 by the astronomy hero Sir Patrick Moore. With every show including the latest video technologies, sound and computer animation, you will be fully immersed in a 360 degree fulldome experience.

Each year the National Space Centre hosts many special weekends which in the past have included celebrations of Science Fiction, LEGO and Daleks. School holiday periods are always exciting, as the Centre adds plenty of workshops and talks into the mix, so advanced booking is advised. Don’t forget that if you book in advance then you will guarantee entry and you’ll be able to upgrade to a FREE Annual Pass allowing you to return free of charge. Since there are no booking fees the prices are clear and easy to understand.

The National Space Centre is also a unique venue for a wide range of events including conferences, wedding proposals and Christmas parties. Making the most of the spectacular content and the state-of-the-art building, including the UK’s largest planetarium, the Centre offers a wide range of dynamic venue space for conferences, meetings, team building, parties and private functions.

A day out at The National Space Centre is a truly out of this world experience and bound to work up an appetite. Why not stop off at Booster’s Café for freshly made sandwiches, warm nachos with fresh chilli, cheese and salsa as well as gourmet hot dogs. The Café can also cater to all dietary requirements and offers plenty of vegan and vegetarian options.

A visit to the National Space Centre wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Shop to pick up a souvenir as a memento of your journey to outer space. The Shop boasts a full range of fun and interactive space toys, books, games and telescopes.

Map & Directions

 • Uncover the story - Leicester can claim to be the UK’s Space city and an out of this world experience awaits at the multi-award-winning National Space Centre. Visitors can explore six galleries crammed full of rockets, satellites and meteorites, take in a show at the UK’s largest domed planetarium, and ascend the iconic rocket tower.
In the Welcome Hall visitors will discover a display of world-famous spacesuits. These include the Sokol Suit worn by UK-born ESA astronaut Tim Peake, an EVA spacesuit worn by Matt Damon in the hit movie The Martian and Buzz Aldrin's Constant Wear Garment (space underpants!) worn during training for the historic Apollo 11 mission.
These objects and many others tell the story of past, present and future space exploration with hands-on galleries which take visitors on a journey from Earth, through our Solar System and out into the known, and unknown, Universe.
The 42-metre-high Rocket Tower that houses the Centre’s rocket collection is one of the Leicester skyline’s most iconic additions. The Into Space gallery enables you to walk through a recreation of the Columbus Modules from the International Space Station while providing the answer to every 5 (and 50) year old’s question - “how on earth do you go to the toilet in space?”
But what makes Leicester the place for space? The city has been one of the most active cities for space research in the world for more than 60 years. Thanks to physicists and space researchers at the University of Leicester, a Leicester-built instrument has been operating in space every year since 1967.
Over 300,000 space enthusiasts from across the world visit the Centre every year. That one giant leap into space is just one small step away for you in Leicester.

THE CHALLENGE

THE CHALLENGE

To show the unique event spaces at the National Space Centre, Leicester. The location is great, and it’s the perfect venue for meetings, conferences and product launches. But their marketing team was stuck for ways to promote the centre’s event spaces; they asked us to team up, and to bring new, innovative ways to market the function rooms and event capabilities.

Their in-house marketing team knew that our tech could engage potential clients, and demonstrate the potential of the Boosters Rocket Tower, The Hub and the Sir Patrick Moore Planetarium.

THE SOLUTION

We started with the basics. Our photography team got a feel for the venue spaces and made an onsite analysis. This helped us understand what digital solutions would work best, and to pin-point the most effective ways to market each event space. Still photography is a great marketing tool, but it also has limitations. Its restricted formatting means that it can only show aspects of a space, and a single still shot is easy to overlook.

Instead, 3D virtual tours were created using a 3D Scanner. We captured the space and create an interactive tour; each tour showcased an entire event space, and immersed people inside the environment.

The National Space Centre is a busy place, so there was tight schedules and restricted access to work around. Our photography team worked closely with their events teams, and the synergy between the teams meant that there was no disruption to the centre’s visitors. Once the scans were collected, we began processing the images into my 360 spin virtual tours; these immersed customers in experiences, and allowed people to see the venue’s spaces capabilities.

THE SOLUTION

We developed seven VR experiences that showcased the unique event spaces; the marketing team also used the footage to promote the event venues on the website and social media platforms

The National Space Centre needed something different, and together, we made something pretty special. The virtual experiences not only bring innovation to their marketing, they’re impressing their visitors and securing bookings. We look forward to working with the team again on their next project.

National Space Centre showing modern architecture

Visit National Space Centre

Enjoy a captivating introduction to the magic and mystery of our universe at the National Space Centre. With six hands-on galleries, more than 150 activities, a planetarium and a rocket tower, this is one of Britain’s biggest space-themed attractions. The National Space Centre’s entertaining and family-friendly exhibits cover everything from iconic journeys to the moon to the search for extraterrestrials and the makeup of the solar system.

Step inside the futuristic-looking building to an open-plan area with displays of meteorites, planets, rockets, spacesuits, video presentations and more. A good place to start your journey is in the 138-feet (42-meter) tall Rocket Tower. Relive the groundbreaking missions of Yuri Gagarin, the first person in space, and Neil Armstrong, the first person to walk on the moon. Spot original rockets, including a Blue Streak and Thor Able.

Another major highlight is the 360-degree planetarium, which is named after the legendary English astronomer Sir Patrick Moore. Watch animated movies about how the endeavors of astronomers and astronauts help educate the public about the universe. Take a virtual tour of the night sky and identify constellations with a knowledgeable guide.

Examine spacesuits and a genuine Russian-built Soyuz capsule in the Into Space gallery. Try to recreate the Big Bang, look for planets on a virtual voyage and get up-close with aliens in the Exploring the Universe gallery. This area also contains a walk-through mock solar system, complete with planets such as Jupiter, Mars and Venus.

Discover more about the satellites used for predicting the weather and natural disasters in Orbiting Earth. Go to the Space Now! section to find out what is currently happening in space. Pretend you’re an apprentice astronaut traveling to Europa, Jupiter’s moon, at the center’s Tranquility Base.

The National Space Centre is about a 15-minute drive from Leicester’s city center. Ride public buses from central Leicester or drive. Parking is available on-site for a fee. The center is open from Tuesday to Sunday and a fee is required to enter. Visit the official website for full details plus information about special events.
