Aviva Stadium

Aviva Stadium

Club: none | Opening: 2010 | Capacity: 50,000 seats

History and description

Aviva Stadium is the national stadium of Ireland and the playing venue of the Irish national team. It also hosts most of the nation’s major rugby matches.

Aviva Stadium was built on the place of the old Lansdowne Road Stadium, which was one of the oldest stadiums in the world when it got demolished in 2007. Construction of Aviva Stadium started right after and finished in early 2010. The stadium had a price tag of €410 million and was designed by Populous .

Aviva Stadium officially opened on 14 May 2010. First football was played on 4 August 2010 when a League of Ireland side hosted Manchester United for a friendly (1-7).

In 2011 the stadium was the playing venue of the Europa League final between FC Porto and SC Braga (1-0).

Aviva Stadium was part of the initial selection of playing venues for the Euro 2020 Championships, but was removed because it could not offer assurances that spectators would be admitted due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The stadium’s most notable feature are its curvilinear shaped stands enclosing the complete stadium, a shape chosen to make sure that the surrounding houses get enough sunlight. The stadium holds a total of 10,000 premium seats as well as 1,300 seats in corporate boxes.

How to get to Aviva Stadium

Aviva Stadium is located in central Dublin in the Ballsbridge area, about 2 kilometres from the city centre. The walk from St Stephen’s Green park or the Trinity College area will take 20 to 30 minutes.

From Connolly Station or Pearse Station take a DART train southbound. Get off at station Lansdowne Road, which lies right next to the stadium.

From the Temple Bar area take bus 7 to Loughlinstown/Cherrywood.

Address: Lansdowne Road, Dublin 4

Eat, drink, and sleep near Aviva Stadium

Aviva Stadium is located in a rather quiet residential area. There is relatively little around in terms of eating and drinking, though you will surely bump into the odd pub on your way to the stadium.

Great stadium. Looks amazing both outside and inside. Went to watch Euro 2016 qualifier between Ireland and Poland. Cracking atmosphere. We walked from city centre and I took us about 40 minutes. Quality food is sold in kiosks around the stadium. There was no alcohol sold on that day. Would go there again any day.

Three quarters of a wonderful stadium! It really does seem absurd not to finish it properly, though. It’s the National Stadium for heaven’s sake! The residents to the north could surely be relocated and suitably compensated to make way for this.

Went to an autumn rugby international a year or two ago, Ireland v Argentina. Only about 40,000 attendance, but a great atmosphere nonetheless. I wish that pint-sized end stand was made a little bigger, it takes away from the atmosphere. Great facility, though. Very clean and modern.

A Guide The Croke Park Tour (GAA Museum, Skyline Tour + Bloody Sunday)

A Guide The Croke Park Tour (GAA Museum, Skyline Tour + Bloody Sunday)

If you’re looking for interesting places to visit in Dublin , Croke Park is a good place to start.

Although the Aviva Stadium might be the shiny new stadium du jour, the heart and soul of Irish sport lies among Dublin 3’s narrow roads and terraced houses at Croke Park.

Even when there isn’t a game on, the Croke Park tour provides a great platform to learn about Irish sporting history and a whole lot more.

In the guide below, you’ll find info on the story behind this historic stadium and the GAA museum to the Croke Park Skyline Tour.

Table of Contents

Some quick need-to-knows about the Croke Park tour

GAA museum

Although booking into the Croke Park tour is fairly straightforward, there are a few need-to-knows that’ll make your visit that bit more enjoyable.

1. Location

Croke Park (or ‘Croker’ as it’s known to locals) is walkable from the city centre, and you can make it there within half an hour. Otherwise, you can jump on a number of different buses. You can also take the DART to Drumcondra Station, which is just a 10-minute walk from the stadium.

2. Admission + opening hours

Admission (prices may change) to the GAA Museum is €9 for adults, while it’s €7.50 for students and seniors. It’s €6.50 for children aged 3-12 (under-3’s go free), while families of two adults and two children can enter for €21. The museum is open from Monday to Saturday, 9.30 am to 5 pm and on Sundays from 10 am to 5 pm.

3. The tours

Croke Park really pushes the boat out when it comes to the variety of tours on offer! Choose from a historical tour at the GAA Museum, an all-access Stadium Tour or get a unique view from above with the Crok Park Skyline Tour. They’re all cracking tours led by experts, so choose one (or all of them!) and see what Croke Park’s all about.

4. Home to a heap of history

Croke Park is home to the sort of history that few other stadiums can match, and not all of it is pleasant. But that doesn’t make it any less interesting! As well as opening way back in 1884, it was also the scene of the infamous Bloody Sunday massacre where 14 civilians were gunned down by British forces. But more on that in the next section.

A brief history of Croke Park

The history of Croke Park is a long and interesting one. And it’s forgotten by many who take a seat inside its walls.

Below, you’ll get an insight into some of the stories you’ll hear during the Croke Park tour. Pay particular attention to the section on Bloody Sunday.

1. A stadium for an Archbishop

The land around Croke Park had been used as the setting for sporting events since the 1880s and was known as the City and Suburban Racecourse, or Jones’ Road sports ground. Then in 1908, the ground was bought by a local journalist and GAA member with a view to making it a permanent Gaelic sporting ground.

Five years later, the GAA purchased the plot of land for £3,500, and the ground was then renamed Croke Park in honour of one of the GAA’s first patrons, Archbishop Thomas Croke.

2. Bloody Sunday

By 1920, it had a couple of stands and was on its way to eventually becoming a recognised stadium. Things came to an abrupt halt, however, on the 21st of November of that year.

During a match between Dublin and Tipperary, British forces fired on the crowd of 5,000, killing twelve spectators and a Tipperary player in response to an IRA attack earlier in the day.

The event has lived on in infamy and only increased support for the IRA at home and abroad. Built in 1924, the Hogan Stand at Croke was named after Michael Hogan, the Tipperary player killed on Bloody Sunday.

3. Big games and bigger gigs

Croke Park has since evolved into an elite sports stadium, and its capacity has swelled to 82,000, making it the fourth-largest stadium in Europe. It continues to be used predominantly by the GAA and hosts the annual All-Ireland finals in Gaelic football and hurling.

It also regularly hosts music gigs by some of the world’s biggest artists. Unsurprisingly, it’s been a favourite of U2 for many years, but Croke has also hosted gigs by the likes of Bon Jovi, Take That and Tina Turner.

What to do at Croke Park

One of the reasons that the Croke Park tour is seen as one of the best day trips from Dublin City is due to the number of things there is to see and do.

Below, you’ll find info on the Croke Park Skyline Tour and the GAA Museum to where to visit nearby.

1. The GAA Museum

When people refer to the ‘Croke Park tour’, they’re usually talking about the GAA Museum, which vividly brings to life how the GAA has contributed to Ireland’s cultural, social and sporting heritage.

The GAA Museum tells the story of Ireland’s unique national sports. Featuring a ton of artefacts, including jerseys, medals and photographs, there’s so much here to keep you entertained, even if you’ve no idea how Gaelic football or hurling work. You’ll soon know!

There are also exhibitions, and the Remembering Bloody Sunday Exhibition is the one to go to if you’d like to know more about that terrible day in 1920.

It shaped the landscape of Ireland in more ways than one and is as important an event as any other in Ireland’s struggle to be free of Britain’s grasp. This is regarded as one of the best museums in Dublin for good reason.

2. The Skyline Tour

Now here’s a tour you won’t find at any old stadium! Get an epic view of Dublin from 17 storeys high at Croke Park’s Skyline Tour. Dublin’s highest open-viewing platform , this amazing rooftop walkway will give you a birds-eye view over the stadium and pitch and you’ll be able to learn about each stand from a unique vantage point.

When you’ve finished checking the stadium out, you’ll then be able to turn and get a stunning panorama of Dublin City! The expert guides will point out all of the city’s significant landmarks and tell you about them in their own way. Don’t forget to take plenty of photos on this tour!

3. The Stadium Tour

Want to get an insight into what it’s like to be one of the privileged few to play at Croke Park? Minus the sweat, of course! The Croke Park Stadium tour gives you a backstage pass to see areas of the stadium fans would never normally get to see on match days.

Take a seat in the VIP area, enjoy a birds-eye view from the media centre, take a look inside the dressing rooms, and walk in the footsteps of Gaelic games legends as you go pitchside through the players’ tunnel! The expert tour guides will tell you all about the history of the stadium on the way and point out all of its interesting quirks and landmarks.

Aviva Stadium Guide: Seating, History, and Tips for Ireland’s Premier Sports Venue

Aviva Stadium Guide: Seating, History, and Tips for Ireland's Premier Sports Venue

Nestled in the heart of Dublin lies the Aviva Stadium, a fusion of historic reverence and contemporary brilliance. As Ireland’s hallmark of sporting grandeur, the Aviva Stadium is not just an architectural marvel but a symbol of the nation’s passionate affair with sports and entertainment.

Planning a visit? Book Your Aviva Stadium Tour Now !

Constructed on the grounds of the former Lansdowne Road Stadium, Aviva Stadium opened its doors to the public in 2010. With its distinctive, bowl-like design, and a seating capacity of over 51,000, it quickly became a landmark for sporting and entertainment events.

A Glimpse into the Past: The Evolution of Aviva Stadium

From its inception as the Lansdowne Road Stadium in the 1870s, this ground has witnessed the ebb and flow of time. Originally conceived by Henry Dunlop, it became an arena for diverse sports – from cricket and rugby to croquet.

The Birth of Aviva Stadium

It all began in the early 1870s when Henry Dunlop, an enthusiastic organiser of sporting events, created a multi-sport ground that was originally known as Lansdowne Road Stadium.

This ground, which can rightly be considered the predecessor of the modern-day Aviva Stadium, was home to a variety of sports such as cricket, rugby, and even croquet.

The Evolution

As the years rolled on, the stadium began to cement its status as the heart of Irish sport. In 1876, the first rugby international was played between Ireland and England.

This marked the beginning of a long-standing tradition of hosting major international rugby games, a tradition that Aviva Stadium continues to this day.

Fast forward to the start of the 20th century, the stadium underwent a series of renovations and expansions. Despite the changes, the quaint charm of the original stadium remained intact, much to the delight of its patrons.

The Transformation into Aviva Stadium

In 2007, a significant transformation took place. The old Lansdowne Road Stadium was demolished to make way for a new, state-of-the-art venue – the Aviva Stadium.

This marked a new chapter in the stadium’s history, as it became a symbol of Ireland’s progress and commitment to sporting excellence.

The new Aviva Stadium opened its doors in May 2010, boasting a capacity of 51,700 spectators. With its distinctive bowl-like design and transparent façade, it truly is a architectural marvel.

Discovering the Architectural Marvels of Aviva Stadium :

The stadium’s design, brought to life by the internationally recognized architecture firm Populous , takes inspiration from Ireland’s rich maritime history. The smooth and flowing form of the stadium, akin to a wave, is a nod to the country’s deep-rooted connection with the sea.

The Unique Bowl Design :

The bowl design of Aviva Stadium isn’t just aesthetic; it’s strategic. It ensures every spectator, regardless of where they sit, gets an unobstructed view of the field, amplifying the thrill of live matches.

Aviva Stadium Bowl Design

Transparent Facade

The polycarbonate façade serves dual purposes: it immerses the interiors in a cascade of natural light and provides spectators with picturesque views of Dublin, adding a unique dimension to the match-watching experience.

The Four Stands of Aviva Stadium :

The Aviva Stadium comprises four stands: North, South, East, and West. The South stand, with its three tiers, accommodates the largest audience, making it the heartbeat of every event. Each stand offers a distinctive vantage point, enhancing the spectator experience.

The Four Stands of Aviva Stadium

1. North Stand :

  • Description : The North Stand, like its counterpart in the South, faces the length of the pitch and provides an excellent view of the game’s progression. It’s an ideal vantage point for those who enjoy analyzing team formations and strategies.
  • Seating : It offers two tiers of seating. The upper tier provides a bird’s eye view, while the lower tier offers a closer look at the action, particularly when the game gravitates towards the northern end.
  • Amenities : This stand boasts several food and drink kiosks, ensuring spectators don’t have to venture far during half-time breaks. Restrooms and merchandise outlets are also conveniently located.
  • Tiers : Comprises two tiers: Lower and Upper.
  • Lower Tier : Blocks 100-150 – These are closer to the field and provide an intimate view of the action, especially when it’s concentrated on the north side.
  • Upper Tier : Blocks 200-250 – Elevated seating, offering a broader perspective of the entire field.

4. West Stand :

  • Seating : Divided into two tiers, every seat ensures a clear, unobstructed view of the pitch, making it a favorite among many regulars.
  • Amenities : The West Stand, while mirroring the amenities of the East Stand, also often houses media boxes and commentary booths, given its strategic location.

  • gerrymN6353KP 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles A great experience. I undertook the Croke Park stadium tour yesterday. It was a most enjoyable and informative tour, very well led by the guide Seamus. He had a wealth of knowledge, which he delivered with coherence and enthusiasm. It was evident that he had a passion for the GAA. After the tour I was able to spend time in the museum. The museum had a wealth of exhibits, interactive videos, etc, covering the GAA from its conception to the present. There was also an excellent cafe. Overall, great value for money, and I would highly recommend this tour for all GAA fans, and those who want to learn about our sports. Gerry from Derry Read more Written October 14, 2023

  • MattT3150 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Englishman at Croke I've never reviewed a stadium before, because, well, I've never really needed to. Visited in sept 22 for the Garth Brooks shows. Attended on the 3rd night of the 5 and have to say, was really blown away by the efficiency and organisation of the day. I've visited a fair few stadiums in my time, being a football fan and have been to Wembley Stadium twice for gigs, but Croke took the biscuit for how well organised the whole night was. Arrived pretty early as we had standing tickets and wanted to be pretty close to the front (turns out we literally were right at the front) and joined the shirt queue already ahead. Gradually we were moved forward and down closer to the stadium where we filtered in with more people where at this point I felt it would be difficult to get to the front due to the large amount of people ahead. Thankfully this wasn't the case as those that had queued up early were let in first and were moved into the stadium concourse where security moved everyone down and towards the pitch slowly and in order, meaning those that had queued first didn't miss out on getting a good spot. Security throughout were friendly and however good the artist is, sometimes having a good or bad experience with the organisation can make or break a night. All in all, really impressed by the whole night Read more Written July 9, 2023

  • DrVinnyT 0 contributions 2.0 of 5 bubbles Garth Brooks Concert Friends Garth Brooks Concert - this was our first concert with our two teenage sons. We are regular attendees to Croke Park (big GAA family). We love Croke Park on match days. As a family we did enjoy the City centre lights and nice food. As for the concert, it was an electric atmosphere and Garth is a super entertainer. However left feeling a bit disappointed, we were in the Davitt Stand and like a previous contributor said the sound quality was awful. We couldn’t make out what he was saying due to how muddled the sound. We could not make out the words. The big screens weren’t in sync with the sound as we could see his mouth moving differently to what we were hearing. 3 women stood up in front of us and danced all night, more luck to them, but they blocked my wife and two young boys entire view of the stage and screen. They also spilt beer all all over the ground where we were seated. One young person as security visible, but ineffective, nobody nearby to ask for help. I asked if they could sit as we couldn’t see anything, but they refused and told us to stand if we couldn’t see. So thirty minutes in we left and found seats higher up in the disabled section. Great atmosphere with the lighting etc but with no view, poor sound and people loaded with alcohol we won’t be back there for a concert again. Match days yes, concerts no. However left feeling a bit disappointed, we were in the Upper Hogan Stand and the sound quality was awful. We couldn’t make out what he was saying due to how muddled the sound was. Even some of the songs left us puzzled unless they were the big numbers as we just could not make out the words. Also the big screens weren’t in sync with the sound as we could see his mouth moving differently to what we were hearing. Also very little security visible, nobody nearby to ask for help when the couple in front of us spent the whole concert vaping heavily. Read more Written September 14, 2022

We r on social media and their website ( there was no message on their website and not everybody uses social media!!! )she explained that the 1pm slot was gone and would we like to book the 2.30pm slot instead? I explained that I had 2 very disappointed children in the back of the car on route to Dublin and she hung up on me. My wife rang back 1 minute later to book the 2.30pm slot which she had explained was available and she said it was sold out. ( 1 minute later!!). Very, very disappointed children once again!! I fully understand that with covid 19 restrictions, they want to operate an online booking system but come on Croke Park, if you want to implement these online bookings etc, do it correctly.... • TheTrvlGuy 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles This private tour almost made me like sports... Sadly it didn't, but it was a great few hours, and exhilarating climbing all those steep steps! My friend I ran into in Dublin [read my Conrad hotel review] for a convention, told me she took a corporate group tour at the Croke Park Stadium and found allot of fun... So I called the concierge at my hotel [The Conrad] and asked for them to book me a tour, private if at all possible. [it was] When I arrived I was met by this incredible woman, firm hand-shake and beautiful who I assumed own the Stadium because of her commanding presence, lovely, warm and professional, also walked like her shoes were on fire... I mean brisk, which was the perfect pace for me. She spoke about the behind the scenes stuff which really didn't appeal to me so after fifteen minutes we headed into the stadium and began climbing and climbing and climbing [elevator please] and at one point the stairs became very steep and I now understand, the nose bleed section, phrase. I'm in great shape 6'2" 160 and an avid long distance runner, but these steps were kicking my booty. Once conquering the last step, I had the same feeling as my tour of the Sydney Harbor Bridge, except for the safety lines in Sydney strapped to me. Walking around up there on mesh grates and safety railings along with signage explaining the views etc... To be honest with you, I do not remember going back down to earth, the tour was that great. I know nothing about group tours or non private tours, but I'm sure you can find them on TA... I do know this was a great few hours and fit nicely into my agenda, since I did not do the entire tour I have no idea how long that last's, thus my love of private tours. I highly recommend taking this tour, especially if you're a sports fanatic. Enjoy every adventure ahead of you and the diversity our planet offers! Read more Written January 24, 2020

We completed this yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed every minute. The tour guide (John I think!) was engaging, witty and knowledgeable. Despite being up a great height (as you would be on the roof of Croke Park), I felt at ease and very safe and I wouldn’t be too fond of heights! The stadium tour was really good seeing all the main sites of a stadium tour, media area, executives boxes, changing rooms, players tunnel, stands and the whole ground itself from high up. The museum is a great day to start the trip while you wait for your tour. The skyline tour was amazing and totally made our day, especially our tour guide Kian, who was so knowledgable and great to be around. Taylor Swift Eras tour: When is the pop star performing in the UK?

  • Oops! Something went wrong. Please try again later. More content below

Taylor Swift will soon launch the European, UK and Ireland legs of her record-breaking Eras tour.

Over the past year, the 34-year-old pop star has been performing her career-spanning shows at stadiums around the world, including North America, Tokyo, Melbourne, Sydney and Singapore.

A month after the release of her 11th studio album, The Tortured Poets Society, she will continue the Eras tour with four nights in Paris at the La Défense Arena.

After this, she will perform two shows in Lisbon, Portugal, then a further two nights in Madrid, Spain, and Lyon, France.

UK-based fans (and those travelling to see Swift from overseas) will then get to see her live during three nights from 7 to 9 June at the Scottish Gas Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh, Scotland, before she heads to Liverpool and Cardiff.

Swift is booked to perform a staggering eight shows at Wembley Stadium in London, with the first three taking place between 21 and 23 June, before she returns for the final five nights of her UK and Europe tour between 15 and 20 August.

In between those, she will have also played in Dublin, Ireland, in Amsterdam, Zurich, Milan, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg and Munich in Germany, Warsaw in Poland, and Vienna, Austria.

Ticketmaster recently announced a major update for fans with tickets to see Swift this summer.

In a five-star review of the very first show of Swift’s Eras tour , critic Kelsey Barnes wrote how the US star guided fans through more than a decade’s worth of “her best work”.

“Her ‘Eras Tour’ was designed as a journey through that staggering back catalogue of 10 albums, from her earlier country twang on her self-titled debut to the shift to synth-pop on 1989 , then to the subdued folk and alt-rock of Folklore and Evermore ,” she wrote.

“Throughout the opening night of the tour, it frequently feels as though the audience is being caught up with Swift’s past, present and future. In the 44-song setlist that spans three hours and 15 minutes, she shows why the “era” concept is so integral to who she is. Each chapter marks a specific shift in her artistry.”

The Tortured Poets Department, released on 19 April, is the pop titan’s 11th studio album. It appears to have been inspired, in part, by the five stages of grief. Ahead of the release, Swift shared five new playlists that arrange her songs into those stages: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance.

“These songs represent making room for more good in your life,” she says in a brief audio message that accompanied the final playlist, acceptance. “Making that choice. Because a lot of time when we lose things, we gain things too.”

Maggie Rogers Adds Fall 2024 Tour Dates

By Matthew Strauss

Maggie Rogers

Maggie Rogers has announced the second part of her Don’t Forget Me Tour . The second leg takes place in October and November. See all of Rogers’ tour dates below.

Tickets to a handful of Rogers’ shows are available exclusively in-person at box offices. She explained in a press statement:

On the last album, Surrender , I decided to go old school and sell tickets in-person in an effort to reduce fees, combat bots, and get tickets directly into the hands of fans. That process was so fun; this year, I’m hosting “Box Office Week,” where I’ve set some special prices for fans who want to come purchase tickets in person. Here’s how it’s going to work… from April 13th to April 20th, in every city where I’m playing an arena this fall, you can go to the local box office to choose your seats and buy your ticket for a special in-person price. You can find all the exact information for your city HERE . In NYC, Philly, Boston, and Chicago, I’m going to be in person selling tickets directly to you at the box office. After the box office day festivities, I’ll be playing a show that very same night in those four cities where me and my band will perform Don’t Forget Me for the very first time.

Rogers’ new album, Don’t Forget Me , is out tomorrow, Friday, April 12.

Taylor Swift Dublin: How to get resale tickets for The Eras Tour in Aviva Stadium

T he world has been gripped by Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour and the show will finally make its way to Ireland this summer. The superstar is set to perform sold-out concerts in Dublin’s Aviva Stadium on June 28, 29 and 30.

Thousands of people tried to get their hands on tickets when they went on sale last year, and while some got lucky, there were plenty of other disappointed fans who missed out.

All hope is not lost though, as there is still a chance to see the impressive performance. Fans who can’t attend may resell their tickets before the All Too Well hitmaker takes to the stage in June. Ticketmaster makes it easy to sell tickets fans can no longer use via its ticket exchange, meaning another fan can go instead.

READ MORE: The cheapest Taylor Swift resale tickets available to buy right now

READ MORE: Major Taylor Swift Dublin ticket update as Ticketmaster announces Eras Tour U-turn

Resale for The Eras Tour in Dublin has officially been activated. Tickets are likely to sell out almost as soon as they’re released, however fans can keep an eye on Ticketmaster HERE for official resale tickets and they could get lucky.

As it’s likely that Ticketmaster’s resale tickets will be snapped up very quickly, another option to consider is ticket resale websites. Viagogo and VividSeats are selling Eras Tour tickets for the shows across the UK and Europe.

As well as Dublin, the 34-year-old is bringing the concert to UK venues in Edinburgh, Liverpool, Cardiff and London, as well as European venues in Paris, Stockholm, Lisbon, Madrid, Lyon, Amsterdam, Zurich, Milan, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Munich, Warsaw and Vienna.

Those desperate to see the concert and unable to nab Dublin tickets may consider jetting off to another destination and making a holiday of it. These sites allow you to browse at your own pace, as tickets put up for sale by fans stay available until they're bought.

At the time of writing, there are tickets available on Viagogo in Cardiff from £372 , in Edinburgh from £269 , in Liverpool from £408 and in London from £397 .

When it comes to European venues, there are Warsaw tickets available from £338 , tickets for Madrid available from £278 , tickets for Amsterdam available from £502 and tickets for Lisbon available from £398 .

You can check Eras Tour prices for each of the UK and European venues on Viagogo HERE . Many of the venues are hosting several nights of the concert, so it is might be worth checking different dates to get the best value.

A spokesperson from Viagogo previously said tickets for Taylor Swift's UK dates have sold for as low as £172.

They told Express.co.uk about people's worries over using resale tickets. They said: "The European leg of Taylor Swift's Eras tour has been long anticipated. We've not seen anything like this since The Beatles and with tickets having only just gone on sale, demand is at its peak right now.

“Viagogo is a regulated marketplace where fans have the freedom to buy and sell tickets to their favourite live events, safely and securely, backed by a guarantee. Sellers on our marketplace may list tickets at high values when demand is high, but prices can change and tend to reduce over time.

"We recommend Swifties wait for demand to settle and check regularly for a listing that meets their budget. Tickets for Taylor Swift's UK dates have already sold for as low as £172 on our platform. Also, tickets listed at eye-catchingly high levels rarely, if ever, sell."

FAI will not meet this week’s deadline to announce a new Ireland manager

Marc canham briefs board meeting on wednesday as john o’shea remains open to interim or assistant coach role.

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) will not announce a Republic of Ireland manager this week, despite previous indications to the contrary.

The five month search to find Stephen Kenny’s replacement could now stretch out until the June friendlies against Hungary and Portugal.

It is even possible that whoever the FAI appoint, they will be unavailable until after Euro 2024 in Germany, which ends on July 14th.

Director of Football Marc Canham has taken full control of the recruitment process since chief executive Jonathan Hill left the association on Monday. Hill’s official departure date is April 30th but he is now on holiday.

The 14-person FAI board, chaired by Tony Keohane, meets on Wednesday when Canham will present an update on a situation that has become increasingly embarrassing for the association.

John O’Shea , the interim manager for last month’s friendlies against Belgium and Switzerland, claims to be in the dark as much as anyone else. However, the former Manchester United defender remains open to being retained in June as the interim or an assistant coach.

O’Shea wants the manager’s job on a permanent basis, but he has been given no indication that will happen.

“The ideal scenario is that whoever was going to be the manager would be in by now,” said O’Shea, speaking during a Europa League final promotional event at the Aviva stadium. “Obviously that has not been the case for whatever reason.

“Hopefully when that person is announced it is straightforward and everyone gets behind them and we start trying to qualify for major tournaments again.

“Not everything in life can be straightforward and ideal, there is going to be twists and turns and this has proved to be the case.”

With Canham unavailable for comment, it was left to the 42-year-old to try to shed some light on the ongoing saga.

“I’d tell ya if I knew,” he said. “For me, in terms of yourselves, everyone is trying to have an educated guess - put two and two together, managers qualifying [for the Euros], managers not qualifying, this manager is out of work. I can’t help you.

“Marc has been saying they’re looking for someone with experience in the role,” O’Shea continued. “That’s something I obviously don’t have in terms of being actually a head coach, apart from the last two games and it was something I thoroughly enjoyed.”

O’Shea was asked if he could work under Chris Hughton or Gus Poyet, who have both been linked to the vacant position.

“ It just depends. I can’t answer that, I don’t know who it’s going to be. There have been some brilliant people who have been mentioned about it, different people who I’ve worked with before, and played alongside. It will be interesting to see what happens but for me it is a case of wait and see.”

The Hughton candidacy has grown fresh legs in the last 24 hours despite former Ireland manager Brian Kerr ruling out his former assistant coach back in February.

Poyet made O’Shea his captain at Sunderland but the Uruguayan did not make contact during his recent discussions with the FAI.

“No, not at all,” said O’Shea. “I’ve not been in touch with any people in the running. Not that I know of. Nobody has been in touch.”

Have you been told you will not be the next Ireland manager?

Have you been told you have a future role with the FAI?

“ Marc has always suggested that for me, but as I said, what happens in football, you don’t know. When a manager comes in I might get on great with him, or I might not get on great with him.”

O’Shea is not under contract to either the FAI or any club but he continues to attend matches in England, including Fleetwood Town versus Blackpool last week, a League One tie that featured four Irish players in CJ Hamilton, Bosun Lawal, Gavin Kilkenny and Promise Omochere.

Some levity was welcome during a 14 minute interview inside the FAI suite at the Aviva, with O’Shea thinking he heard “Carsley” when asked for further “clarity” on the Ireland manager’s job.

“Carso is happy with England’s 21s,” he joked. “Look, for me, the Irish men’s senior international team is such a crucial role in Irish society in terms of what you can do when you qualify for major tournaments and what you can bring to the country in terms of feelings around the world of Irish people, hopefully as it’s been shown that they are taking their time, they are doing the process, and we get the right man in the end.”

The plot thickened when O’Shea refused to confirm if Mick McCarthy linked up with the Ireland camp in March, although he did confirm that the former Irish manager stayed in team hotel in Castleknock while working as a pundit for Virgin Media.

Asked about the third coming of McCarthy, the Waterford native stayed silent.

The most interesting sight at the Aviva on Tuesday evening was a mock riot between fake hooligans and the Garda Public Order Unit, down the north end of the stadium, where English fans will be put when they visit on September 7th.
